DAYTIME TNs (#2): Y Mañana Será Otro Día…Mejor y Mas - Week of Sept. 16, 2019
9/19 Epi #11, Part 1 of 4 – Diana Believes She’s in Control (as long as she wears Orange)
1. Diana has announced forcefully to Camilo that SHE wants the freedom to decide what to do with the rest of what’s left of her life—ALONE, without him. It’s her fight. Cam doesn’t think it’s fair to cut him out. Nico comes in and wants cake. Frustrated, Cam tells her they continue to be two (a couple), for better or for worse and leaves the kitchen.
2. Adrián says to give her time. Cam is ashamed he got drunk and spent the night at Monica’s apartment.
3. Di calls Moni and tells her Cam is not taking it well and she feels awful telling him she has to do this alone. (Aha! She didn’t really mean it. This is part of her plan?) She asks Moni to do what she can.
4. Di is making the rounds at bedtime and stops in to see Barbie. She asks Barbie if she can sleep with her that night. Barbie is surprised. Sadly, Barbie wonders if Di will be at her wedding. They talk about the wedding and Barbie’s future with Mau. She hopes it will be like Di’s and Cam’s. FF>>
5. Rafa is mounting his moto while talking to a mystery woman (who sounds a lot like a petulant Laura). He’s lying telling her he’s at home getting ready for bed and yawns loudly. Aha! It was Laura calling and she’s pissed. She follows him.
6. Moni calls Cam and invites him for pizza with her and Xi—too much was delivered. Nah, he wants to stay home and mope all by himself (lonesome without Di in the bedroom to sleep with).
7. Laura watches as Rafa arrives at an apartment building and goes in carrying a bottle of wine. (She must have grabbed a self-directing drone to be able to get to an unknown apartment location before he did.) Inside, Xi and Moni are discussing whether Cam will come or not. Moni thinks he won’t, then the doorbell rings. It’s Rafa. He barely takes the time to greet them before he sees the pizza and makes a beeline for the box. He helps himself, then invites himself to partake with them.
8. Adri looks for Cam in his bedroom, but he’s MIA—and left all the lights on, to boot.
9. Xi and Moni retire to her bedroom for a short discussion. Xi is pretty sure Rafa is interested in Monica. What a lark if she exchanges the father for the son. What a riot. Moni assures her that her feelings for Cam will never be replaced by another. Xi to the rescue. She promises to divert Rafa’s attentions away from Moni, so she can devote her attentions to Cam. Trato hecho.
10. Laura is still casing the joint when she notices Camilo drive up. She wonders who he’s coming to see there. Upstairs, the door to apartment no. 9 is opened and Cam is standing there. He sees Rafa; Rafa sees him. Cam has a bit of a scowl superimposed on his look of surprise. Rafa, ever the gracious host, even if it’s not his house, offers Cam pizza. It’s all a bit awkward, for both men. Suddenly, Cam needs air.
9/19 Epi #11, Part 2 of 4 – Diana Believes She’s in Control (as long as she wears Orange)
11. Moni takes Cam out to some sort of a terrace up some stairs from her balcony (which can’t be a roof top because it’s a very tall building, but ni modo). There’s a nice little refuge with a picnic table, strings of lights, a lamp, all lit, and plants. She starts to leave him there, but he asks her to stay. Meanwhile, Rafa and Xi have an upbeat chat about music. Cam starts to take a ciggy-butt and asks Moni not to tell. He sadly tells her, as he tries in vain to get his lighter to work (is this one of the comedic interludes?), how he seems not to be able to confront things and he’s using escape as an excuse. Moni reminds him this evening, she invited him. Cam wonders why. Because she knows he likes pizza. There is a moment when they are just looking at each other, half expecting something to happen. They bond over pizza instead. There is some arm-hand touching. We get a close-up of his wedding ring and Moni does, too. (Moni, please take note.) The momentary spell is broken and they go back to the others.
12. Downstairs, Laura is still skulking about and goes up to read the roster of residents. She has her own Aha! moment. It’s Monica’s apartment. Humph, Monica and the father; Monica and the son. She skulks away. The party in Monica’s is really rockin’. Rafa and Xi are cutting the rug. Cam’s spirits are lifted. He says, “pizza, wine and music. What else could anyone want.” They talk about Cam’s youth and he declares he was not much of a party-goer. He and Diana got married so young and they didn’t have much money. So they partied at home. He admits to being half hippie. He finally decides it’s time to go. Moni needs no urging to excuse herself and go to bed, leaving Rafa and Xi to “whatever.”
13. “Whatever” didn’t happen. Instead, Moni has thrown herself on her bed, gleefully telling her stuffed companion animal that, “he came to see me; he came to see ME. Then she begins another fantasy where Cam comes back, barges into her bedroom and asks where has she been all this time. He needed her. She tells him he was ca-sa-do. They are about to kiss when Xi interrupts the fantasy. Rafa is gone, but honey, she’s crazy about him so Moni must invite him again and often. She also congratulates Moni for making headway with Cam.
14. Chabela and Eugenie are up late complaining to each other about snoring, lack of sleep, Di’s problems and the outcome of Regie’s pregnancy. Chabe is surprised to hear Eugie say she supports Regie’s decision and agrees in principle, but not with her great-grandson. She believes Regie is afraid to face motherhood alone. And the putative father? She wants to talk to him. Whatever happened between them, he’s probably just as scared. Perhaps talking to him will fix things. And, she’s not going to give Regie any advance notice.
15. Regie arrives home to an empty house. She checks around. Adri shows up. He says he knows about the baby and starting a family. She assures him she’s not ready to start a family and leaves him wondering.
9/19 Epi #11, Part 3 of 4 – Diana Believes She’s in Control (as long as she wears Orange)
16. Next morning Regie and Nico are causing excess noise while Di, in an orange skirt, fixes lunches. Cam shows up. Nico begins to ask some uncomfortable questions and Adri volunteers to take the two to school. Di is afraid of what is coming next—The Talk. Instead, it is Cam that gets interrogated. He was out last night? Yes. Sleep well? No. Slept alone. Nothing is resolved. She doesn’t let him kiss her goodbye on the lips. She’s clearly torturing herself.
17. Over breakfast of sorts at Eugenia’s (Laura’s consists of Alka-Seltzer), Eugie is scolding Laura for showing up in the wee hours of the morning. They’re surprised to hear Palomita was already up and out of the house. Ding Dong. Maggie at the door. She has come to plead her case for the baby adoption. Eugie says Regie needs to assume responsibility for her actions. Maggie responds that it is exactly what she is doing. The two are at an impasse.
18. Palomita and her short shorts “run” into Mauricio in an arcade outside the office. After assuring him it’s just a fling because she’s heading back to Brazil shortly, they “run” off to an even more public location in the courtyard to exchange forbidden spit. They hide as Rafa walks past and then Mau goes back for more. He starts to leave and needs just a little more. (OK, either Paloma needs plenty of entertainers to entertain her or she’s a mean-girl who wants to best Barbie.)
19. Rafa sees that Cam has not arrived to his office. Mau moves past him and makes himself at home at Cam’s desk and in his chair. He wants to know what Rafa wants. Rafa claims it’s personal. Oh, and by the way, he’s still waiting for the reports he asked Mau for. Mau brushes him off, or tries to. He claims it is sensitive, confidential information. Rafa indicates he will go to Cam about it. Mau changes his mind. There’s no reason why the two can’t fix this matter between them. While they’re at it, Mau wants to know if Rafa plans to go back to wherever it was he came from, Miami was it? Rafa is sly and says who knows. He just might put down roots here.
20. Barbie, back at the house, is being selfishly distraught that Di might not make it to the wedding. Di tries to tell her the tumor is actually getting smaller. Barbie knows what she’s trying to do. No fooling her now. Is she going to die? Diana says everybody has to die some day. That’s not what Barbie wanted to hear. She cuts her off and leaves in a hurry.
21. Paloma “runs” into Cristobal about their (escape) trip to Brazil. He’s beginning to daydream, despite the costs. Pal slips and says he’s just like Mau. He catches that and wants to know how she would know. Pal says it only takes a couple of times seeing Mau to know him. So, she wants to know how much money they still need. That takes them to a pawn shop where Cris tries to get a good price for his guitar. Angry at the pittance offered, he strides off and starts playing in the park. After just a few chords, people are practically in line to drop change in his hat. This makes him feel great and he keeps playing, until four guys approach with something else on their minds—to take his money, not give him some. They rough him up and Cris just escapes with his life and his guitar, the hat with the coins left behind.
9/19 Epi #11, Part 4 of 4 – Diana Believes She’s in Control (as long as she wears Orange)
22. Di’s friend Claudia calls to talk about what she heard Nico saying about Regie at the piñata party.
23. Eugie shows up at school to pick up Regie. She insists she is to come with her…to meet the daddy. So, she needs to know where he lives.
24. Cam finally gets to the office. He tells Monica he needs his car, these taxi drivers are driving him crazy. She hands him the folder Manuel Gonzales left—a personal matter. He doesn’t even open it and on hearing the name, gives it back to Moni and tells her to throw it away. He doesn’t want to have anything to do with that fellow. He does tell her what a great time he had at her party, though she says she was embarrassed by the chaos. He loved it, thought it was fun and Xi is quite the life of the party. Moni would still like to make it up to him and tells him Xi is preparing Cochinito Pibil* for that evening. She knows it’s one of his favorites. She invites him to come, maybe around 8, not thinking he would actually accept. He does. She does a happy dance as she leaves and closes the door.
*In some other tn long ago, there was a discussion of Cochinito Pibil and an exchange of recipes. I’ve actually made in several times, adapting as I went. It takes hours, even in a crockpot—just sayin’. Maybe Xi put it together the night before and is doing it in a crockpot for that evening. Can’t wait to see what comes out of the pot.
Patio Pals, I am a bit troubled by Monica's turn towards going after Cam. What is she going to do if he responds? What will Cam do if Diana beats the cancer? It will be ever so awkward in the office. Nora is already suspecting something. It won't be long before Rafa and Laura also glom onto something, even if there's no evidence. And what will Di do if she doesn't die? Will she want to get Cam back? Still don't think this is light comedy anymore. Even Sin Tu Mirada was funnier than this, especially given our Big Brown Bear.
Paloma..Lord, what can I say. You did it best:
After assuring him it’s just a fling because she’s heading back to Brazil shortly, they “run” off to an even more public location in the courtyard to exchange forbidden spit. They hide as Rafa walks past and then Mau goes back for more. He starts to leave and needs just a little more. (OK, either Paloma needs plenty of entertainers to entertain her or she’s a mean-girl who wants to best Barbie.)
Loved "forbidden spit". Even Nico was a pain in the butt tonight, insisting on wearing his cape to school.
Writers, you better switch gears soon or this telenovela is headed for complete disaster. Yeah, I'm already missing our big brown bear, not to mean our crazy truck driving' mama from Sin Tu Mirada.
Anita, the good news is your thoughtful, well written summary.
The bad news is that appears to be the only thing to celebrate.
Not watching, I'm scratching my head at how to respond to "There is a moment when they are just looking at each other, half expecting something to happen". Umm, really? This is someone who is supposed to be a loyal and loving husband correct? Yet, with the terminal diagnosis barely uttered, he is already seeking refuge elsewhere?
"She also congratulates Moni for making headway with Cam". Yes, quite the accomplishment.
I smiled at "Palomita and her short shorts" and "either Paloma needs plenty of entertainers to entertain her or she’s a mean-girl who wants to best Barbie".
I'll simply support the recapping as I certainly can't support this off-putting storyline. Ack
Thanks Anita!
Diana
My friend died of lung cancer about 8 months ago after a valiant three year battle . Her husband, family, and friends were by her side all the time. She told me toward the end that her husband was her lifeline. He was always there for her and put off knee replacement surgery so that he could take her to her chemo treatments. That's real love and devotion.
The most positive thing I've seen is Adrian (Fabian Robles)show up. I'd like to see he and Monica attracted to one another. Camilo needs to support Diana. I wanted this to be a good one, but it's not doing it for me.
Thanks so much for each summary/recap.
Anita, thank you for your recap, I think you did an excellent job of it.
Too bad the TN itself is not as good as the recap. I'm not yet ready to give up on this show, but I have to admit that so far it's not what I expected at all. The same was true of Sin tu mirada, but that show exceeded my expectations. This one, already 11 episodes in, is annoying and disappointing so far.
I'm not yet ready to bail, but I've started recording El Hotel de los Secretos :-)
There are a few likable characters in this. Monica is very, very appealing, but this whole business of her being in love with her boss for almost 20 years and now planning to take the "dying" wife's place, with said wife's approval and help, this is all hard to believe and more than a little unsavory. Camilo is fairly OK, nothing great.
The rest of the cast, not even that much.
I'm sending this TN a virtual "Get Better Soon" card.
andy
Thank you for your recap, Anita.
I feel like the rest of the Patio; this is not hooking me in. I don't like any of the concepts and I agree with the opinions already posted above.
I did some digging around on the intertubes about the original Chilean version of this, Cuenta Conmigo. Televisa is staying prettty darned close to the original story. Apparently Cuenta Conmigo was broadcast as a "reality" show (?). What I gleaned is that the telenovela wasn't super popular in Chile, either.
I tried La Usurpadora but just could not get hooked in to the evil drama of Paola, and I've already seen the Gabi Spanic version on DVD. I'll wait for one of the other fast-track productions from that group, like Cuna de Lobos.
I'm going to give this one more week before I bail out. It's not as bad as some of the daytime Hallmark Channel movies, and that's not saying much. LOL
Good Morning, Patio. A big thank you to JudyB, Doris and Anita for their excellent recaps. You all are keeping this TN alive for me. I was about to send this TN a "My Condolences" Card, but I will miss your recaps too much; so I'll end them a "Get Well Soon" card...for now.
I agree with everyone about this TN. very disappointing.
Andy, "Monica is very, very appealing, but this whole business of her being in love with her boss for almost 20 years and now planning to take the "dying" wife's place, with said wife's approval and help, this is all hard to believe and more than a little unsavory." DITTO! Those looks Monica gives were funny at the beginning, but no so anymore.
Like Doris, I don't like any of the concepts; so I too am giving this another week before chucking it. ..though I'll still read the recaps just to see if it does get better.
Consensus--We are all disappointed. Has there ever been a telenovela, promoted with a great cast, where everhyone wants to bail after only 11 episodes? This goes on for 66 more episodes, folks.
We all suffered together through FELS and El Talisman using rank snark and excellent recappers. In this case, the premise is so twisted, the characters are all tarnished that even the recappers can't salvage it. I don't think even I can last as a watcher, commenter or recapper.
Except for wardrobes, the color orange and Emmanuel Palomares, there is nothing to recommend it. Well, I might keep my eye out for Inaki (Luis Hacha), who played Inaki in ENDA. I didn't start watching until after he died, so I'm really curious to see what it was about him that ENDA's Paloma fell in love with.
This one? Not so much.
I'm also disappointed, and alternately angry at and feel sorry for the producer, Carlos Laguillo Moreno, who has done so many better than this. He could have turned it down.
He's given us many greats, such as:
Mujeres de Negro (2016)
A Que No Me Dejas (2015) – Arturo Peniche, Camila Sodi, Oscar Buenavides, Alejandra Barros, Leticia Calderon (broadcast US in 2016-7)
Quiero Amarte (2013) Karyme Lozano, Cristian de la Fuente
Amor Bravío – (2012) Silvia Navarro, Cristian de la Fuente
Cuando Me Enamoro (2011) Silvia Navarro, Juan Soler
En Nombre del Amor (2008) Alisson Lozz, Sebastian Zurita
Sueños y Caramelos (2005)
Bajo la Misma Piel (2003)
P.s. I hope that you are feeling good and completely recovered.
Agree--the sound track doesn't match the story. The composer of whoever was in charge of the songs and music, must not have watched any of the episodes before getting to work.
FUEGO EN LA SANGRE
Once upon a time in Mexi-doon,
The town that time forgot, but not Mejía,
There were three guys with Fire in Their Blood.
They rode horses everywhere,
While others rode around in cars.
They meet three pretty gals
With ice in their veins.
They have a terrible mother
Who guards family secrets with drink in hand.
There are menacing villains, victims, flowers that glow
And plenty of superfluous characters.
The guys make bread
In a very Hot kitchen.
The gals don't do anything
Until they open a shop
We called Crap From Afar.
Rosario does Bombon Asesina over and over ad nauseam,
Men cheer.
Padre rides a darling donkey.
The dog was best in show and then was gone.
The three guys cooled down, the three gals heated up.
Once the dead were buried, villains gone, secrets out
There were three bodas and lots of babies (and nuns).
From what I did see it's still batting
0. Still waiting for The comedy.
I don't like it that she wants to fight alone. She's being kinda selfish
With that. What happened to through sickness and in health? Or Did That go out the window with the funny That's missing?
So is cam falling for moni now?. That
Look they were giving each other was burning a hole through the hemisphere.
Thank you for the recap Anita. You put
Your heart into this episode. They should pay you for makin them look good with your recappin skills. They
Can just skip the next 55 episodes and
Put us out of their misery.
Thank you Anita
Part 1
Well, to damn this with faint praise, I'll say that this episode was a little less awful than the previous ones. Perhaps there's hope that it will pick up but I'm still wondering. For me, the best part of the show was when Diana, Adrian and Nico were out in the dark, looking for the little caterpillar Nico and Adrian had discovered earlier. Visually it was lovely. The bright orange of the house was reflected in the deep blues of the pool. And it was a reminder of the power color palette all throughout this of intense blues and oranges--an unusual and captivating combination. On the plot and character development itself, all I can say is...UNUSUAL.
So here we go: Rafa's on the phone with his Miami buddy discussing his icky feelings about Mauricio. Buddy plays Devil's Advocate and says, Look. You invaded his territory. Stay objective until you know for sure he's slime. Rafa goes on to say he thinks Camilo likes Monica...as more than a secretary.
As for cochinito pibil, of course Ximena doesn't know how to make it. Have we ever seen her do anything besides order pizza? Monica tells her to order some from the local Yucatan style restaurant and pretend it's been cooking all day. (By the way, I had some when I was in the Yucatan and didn't think it was all that fabulous. But my son-in-law loves it.)
Rafa's now in Dad's office. Camilo says how much he enjoyed the evening and having some father-son time. Rafa brings up Monica and Camilo plays dumb. Then Rafa goes into his analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of MediaLink. And the potential. Mauricio arrives, starts to retreat but Rafa wants him to "be part of this". Okay now. Well played Rafa. But Rafa adds that he needs to see financial records, and tells Camilo that Mau suggested he check with the boss first. Camilo: "Of course you can see them! I want you to know everything about the business!" Rafa then shares that he's decided to stay and be part of the company. Sour look from Mau as they all hug.
Regina gives Tita the slip when Eugenia tries to force a meeting with the father of the baby. Well played Regi!
Adrian, Nico and Diana arrive home where Mom suggests the little guy stop telling the whole world his sister is pregnant and giving the baby away. Nico: But why? It's the truth. Adrian: She might change her mind. Diana: And family matters need to stay in the family. Diana tells Adrian that it's great to have him there [me caiste del cielo] and he laughs and says "from time to time I enjoy family...from time to time."
Nico ropes him into examining a caterpillar and Adrian gives a little sermonette on the creature's habits saying they mate for life, care for their young until they're old enough to be on their own, and if the mate dies, the other expires within 24 hours. A nice treatise on how love and family life should be. Whether that's actually how worms and wee creatures operate is beyond the scope of this recap.
Persistent Manuel grabs Camilo outside of office and ropes him into visiting their bakery café. And shows him the wall where they track the growth of their employees kids. As proof, evidently, of what wonderful, caring parents they'll be. Camilo cuts this short. The baby is blood of my blood, my first grandchild. No way is it up for adoption. Please step back and distance yourself from my daughter.
Diana meets with Monica and asks her not to take her support and consolation of Camilo to a more romantic, physical level. Monica promises she won't. Diana adds that while Camilo doesn't believe it, she'll be thinking of him tonight.
Part 2
Whiny Butt Cristobal is having a drink with a friend and trying to cadge some money so he can run away to Brazil with Paloma. Buddy points out that it won't be that easy. When Cristobal wants to drink more, his friend suggests that they go make some music instead. Cristobal says Yeah, music is the one thing that consoles me other than booze. This kid is still a total waste.
Rafa of the pink lips and shirt (and have you noticed Luis has very pink lips also?)confronts Mauricio about the internet snooping. And tells him if he wants to know something, ask him directly. Mau wastes no time in reaming out Luis, who humbly promises to never snitch again and do whatever Mau asks. Nicely played Mau. But you're a skank for sure.
And speaking of skanks, Perpetually in Heat Paloma answers to doorbell at Tita's house to find Pablo on the threshold. Big hug and a leg wraparound likes she's ready to mount him then and there. Chabela sees how things are and discreetely vanishes. The conversation continues on the couch where Paloma thrusts her leg on Pablo's lap so he can admire the ankle bracelets she's planning to sell at the mall tomorrow. From there she invites him to her bedroom to see the rest of the collection. And the rest of her as it turns out.
This section ends with Mauricio fudging the finance report in order to thwart Rafa's investigations.
Part 3
Ximena is lighting some palos santos (incense sticks) to add to the romantic atmosphere and is refusing to be part of the evening. She wants it to be a cozy twosome. Evidently her moral code is not like the caterpillar world: She thinks if Monica is in love with a married man, so what? She should fight with all she has to achieve her happiness. And what's more, she's sure that right now Camilo is thinking of Moni.
Turns out he's looking at the family picture and thinking that he loves Diana and always will. And then calls her. But she refuses to answer the phone. [Honest to God, I don't understand these people!]
Nora and Luis are leaving the office. She's determined to find out what's up with him and since she learns he has no steady girl, she invites herself to be his confidante. He slips away saying "I'll get back to you." Nora vows to stay after him.
Adrian, Diana and Nico are back on the caterpillar hunt but he's nowhere to be found. Perhaps his metamorphosis is complete, says Tio, and he's now a butterfly. Perhaps, remembering her own definition of death, Diana stays out alone a while longer to contemplate the cosmos and faraway stars.
But then it's back to the house and the welcoming dinner for Adrian. Everybody's there (Rafa included) except for Camilo. And the mood is strangely somber and silent. Adrian quips: What's up? I go away on a trip and when I come back, this place is a monastery! And at that moment Perpetually in Heat Laura shows up and slides in on the bench next to Rafa. Desperate much Laura? And things start getting uncomfortable. Barbi wants to know where Dad is. And Nico asks Rafa why he doesn't live with them, since he's their brother. Cristobal: "Lo que me faltaba!" [Just what I needed!] And stalks off.
And back at the apartment, Camilo calls Monica to say he won't be coming after all. She runs to her room like a heartbroken teenager and vows not to dream anymore. [Well certainly not about happily married men, Monica! Get a clue girl!]
Part 4
Diana explains to Nico that sometimes, when children are grown up, they live on their own. And besides, we'll soon have another Sarmiento living here. That's Regina's cue to stalk off from the dinner table, after a little hissy fit where she says if Mom keeps pressuring her to keep the baby, she'll have it. And leave it. And be gone herself. After that she hies herself off to her orange room, throws some clothes into a tote bag and heads off for Manny and Maggie's house.
Mau arrives at the not so festive family dinner. Gets a challenging look from Rafa. And then tells Barbi he needs to speak to her privately. So...more exodus from the family table. [ Rats leaving a sinking ship? What's the message here? ] Diana is certainly wondering what happened to her idea of a nice little welcoming dinner for long lost brother-in-law-- who along with Nico, is the only pleasant and seemingly rational person on the scene at the moment.
Mauricio has once again come to weasel out of his engagement. I have no future at company. I won't ever be manager now that Rafa's here. I can't give you what I want. The marriage is off. Barbi is not fooled and insists that there must be a another woman in the picture.
And suddenly we're at a lucha libre training ring where Luis' secret crush is sparring with her trainer and showing enough improvement that they will schedule a fight for her.
Choppy editing?
Back to the house. Or rather the back yard. Where Stalker Laura has found Rafa and their conversation turns into a playful water fight. And then she initiates a kiss. Quite a kiss actually. Nico catches them and they persuade him to silence with some tickling.
Part 5
Manny and Maggie are watching soccer and enjoying snacks. She seems to love the game as much as he does. Okay. A seemingly happy marriage. Like earthworms. Or caterpillars. Regina arrives and asks if she can spend the night. Given the amount of clothing she brought, she may be hoping to stay longer, who knows? Maggie makes the very reasonable suggestion that she call her mom to tell her where she is. Manny points out that her family cares about her and needs to know. That's when Regina drops the news that her mom has cancer and they're awaiting the test results to see if it's just in the breast or has spread all throughout her body. And since she knows about Manny and Maggie's regular Mass attendance, she asks them to request that "their friend up there" watch over Diana.
Wow. Remember when a priest always played a prominent part in these stories? And the characters consulted with them regularly even if they didn't always follow their directives? Of course that was back when we had stalwart heroes also. Now everybody's flawed, and navigating in a world where they "feel lost in the stars" as the old torch song goes. Ugh. As an escape from reality, this story still sucks.
If Diana's Welcome Dinner has fizzled, there are all kinds of fireworks going on at Tita's house. She barged in Paloma's room to call her to dinner and instead found Paloma and Pablo in bed, in the nude, and en flagrante. Wastes no time in throwing Pablo out. For good!, And remonstrates with Paloma. Who is all "offendida". She's an adult woman. You owe me an apology, Tita, for coming in my room without knocking. Tita is outraged and so am I. Good Lord girl! You're a guest in your grandmother's home and you think you can use it as a Hot Sheets Motel? For some reason, Chabela seems okay with this though, and tries to calm the waters.
Man, I'm just throwing up my hands here. But let's wrap this up. Monica is in her jammies and stalking around the house like a lumberjack. Answers the doorbell to find Camilo there with a bottle of wine and hopes to get some...er...cochinito pibil after all. And he'd like them to toast with him to forgetting he has a business, a sick wife, and a family of 5 kids. Ximena is on board and scurries off to warm up the cochinito. Monica is her usual dazed self. Camilo is offering a soundtrack from his phone. José José songs.
Okay folks, if you know those songs, you know they are very nostalgic, very romantic. People DATED to those songs back in the day. WHERE IS THIS GOING? I'm wondering. So are you. And so is Monica.
Fin
JudyB, thank you for this excellent recap cum insightful remarks.
I agree that this episode was not quite as bad as other recent episodes. That said, this TN had nowhere to go but up (and it hasn't yet gone very far up).
But viva Paloma! and congrats to Pablo, but no special congrats to Paloma; this is probably an everyday occurrence for her. At least once a day :-)
Still, I think she's more serious about Pablo, she must know that Mauricio is a sleaze bucket. Anyway, Paloma is a hoot.
And now we're going to have a wanna-be lucha libre Princess? Maybe there is a little relief in sight for this TN. Maybe.
andy
What messages are these writers trying to send about marriage , fidelity ? . I guess the words "in sickness and in health" no longer mean anything .
Judyb....yes, the old telenovelas usually featured a wise, local priest and at least one mature couple in a happy , strong marriage to give advice and support to The young folks. No more.
Hah! Andy, I like your reaction to Paloma. Casts her in a whole new light for me. And reminds me of the old Kingston Trio song where they sang "SHE'S A BOON TO ALL MANKIND". From now on I shall think of our randy little (well, not so little) Paloma that way. We DO have to look for madcap humor wherever we can find it in this dreary tale full of angst and potential betrayal.
Susanlynn...Camilo is certainly cutting a very sorry figure right now. I assume he's our galan. Which means ,as galans go, we're scraping the bottom of the barrel currently. Brother Adrian, for all his feckless ways, is looking better at the moment.
Patio...if there's anybody left! LOL...we all need to get out our Magic Twangers and ask the Universe for an uptick in this story before we all drink the kool-aid and exit the place.
Thank you for your recap, Judy, and making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
I didn't get to watch this until this morning.
Rafa's lipstick matched his shirt quite well. Ew.
And that table fan behind his desk, with no protective cover around it....what is up with that? Are Televisa set decor team giving us clues about Rafa?
Adrián is the only fun character to watch, right now.
So, Paloma didn't like Tita not knocking on her bedroom door before entering. Good thing Paloma was not in Sin tu Mirada where nobody knocked on a bedroom door, ever.
Manuel's beard has bothered me from day #1. I think the actor is wearing a fake beard.
I am starting to wonder if Regina was raped. Or "done" by a guy who only wanted another notch on her belt. Watching her in this episode, I got the feeling the baby will always remind her of the conception, and that's why she is so eager to give it away.
Will Barbi ever see Mau for the jerk he is?
Will Camilo ever act like a mature adult and stop seeking solace at Monica's?
Will Laura hook up with Rafa?
Will Diana's test results come back with "fully treatable" stamped all over them?
Do I even care about any of these people?
Judy, I read this earlier this morning and wanted to absorb it a bit more.
You pulled beauty out of ugliness.
"Perhaps, remembering her own definition of death, Diana stays out alone a while longer to contemplate the cosmos and faraway stars" made my eyes water.
"Now everybody's flawed, and navigating in a world where they "feel lost in the stars" as the old torch song goes" was wonderful which shows how you made something lovely out of a premise that is loathsome to the core.
"...and if the mate dies, the other expires within 24 hours. A nice treatise on how love and family life should be. Whether that's actually how worms and wee creatures operate is beyond the scope of this recap" was outstanding.
"Diana meets with Monica and asks her not to take her support and consolation of Camilo to a more romantic, physical level". Should that request even had to have been uttered?
"And he'd like them to toast with him to forgetting he has a business, a sick wife, and a family of 5 kids". What a galan…
This entire premise is still making me scratch my head. I think I'm fortunate not to be watching. But extremely so to be reading these recaps.
Diana
Susanlynn--With his caterpillar story, Adrian may have been carrying forward Di's lie to soften the blow for Nico. I can't think of any other reason, though. He seems like an intelligent guy and is a globe-trotter. But maybe he's not ready for prime-time National Geographic hosting after all.
Doris...So glad Manual's beard bothers you as much as me. It just seems too dark and too dense to be real. Is that another clue? Can't figure out if this couple is too good to be true, or something else. With this crazy story who knows? And totally agree that for now Adrian is a bright spot. Monica's endless mooning over Camilo not so much.
Diana...Thanks for all those nice shoutouts to the recap. The only thing you would find enjoyable about watching this is the color palette. It really is lovely and the intense orange and blues in so many scenes is truly striking. Of course the intense color palette also means that several male characters' lips are lipstick pink. Which is a little unsettling. As is the storyline so far. Thanks for hanging in there with us.
Susanlynn...Oh well, another dream died. So worms and caterpillars don't mate for life. Actually I always believed that ducks and geese mated for life but evidently there have been some rogues in that cozy world also. Sigh. Where is a Fernando Colunga hero character when you need him?
Anita...Thanks for stopping by. I understand quite well the pull of grandchildren. Gotta enjoy 'em while you can. Hope you don't have to deal with football traffic. I had to drive down past OSU to babysit today and there were already fans crowding the road 4 and a half hours before game time!
JudyB, yeah, we could be losing people already for this TN. I'm planning to stick it out in the hope that it will get better. I just can't believe that they actually plan to kill off Diana, and if not then they must have other plans for Monica. I also want to see what they have planned for Regina's baby. It might be nice for the family if she keeps it, but it would be a heartbreak for for Manuel and Margarita.
I also enjoy Granny Eugenia & Chabela. And I can hiss at the screen whenever I see Mauricio or Ol' Pink Lips. I don't know if Pink Lips is supposed to be a "good guy", but he rubs me the wrong way so far. So he gets hissed at.
About the caterpillars, oh, you silly gooses! (little known fact that I just made up: the plural of 'silly goose' is 'silly gooses') These are special telenovela caterpillars, and they do indeed mate for life, and the first one out of the cocoon will wait for his/her mate to emerge so they can fly off together.
Brazilian telenovela caterpillars, not so much.
andy
These animals are the ones my research say mate for life...black vultures, French angelfish, swans, gibbons ,wolves, beavers, Prairie voles, bald eagles, barn owls, turtle doves....and me.
Ah Susanlynn, you have restored my faith in swans. I was quite crushed to find out ducks and geese weren't not as monogamous as I thought. And no creature or person could match your love story. You did indeed mate for life, and I wish your love story could have lasted many many more years. We always loved your Hub stories. And always will...
"About the caterpillars, oh, you silly gooses! (little known fact that I just made up: the plural of 'silly goose' is 'silly gooses') These are special telenovela caterpillars, and they do indeed mate for life". Andy, you are just the best :)
And Susanlynn, our amiga Judy said it best "I wish your love story could have lasted many many more years".
Diana
susanlynn - (((Hugs))) 💗💗💗
I fear while time might diminish your pain a bit, love and caring of your family and friends are what must sustain you now.
Yours is a hopeful story that true love does exist. A wonderful and comforting reality.
Diana
JudyB, if it weren't for your recaps and those of Doris and Anita, I probably wouldn't waste my time commenting on this TN. Your recaps give us that boost with your personal renditions and insight of the episodes; that makes this very worthwhile.
Well I guess we can all hope that Mañana Sera Otro Día…Mejor...for this TN. I suppose I'm another one that will stick with this since I am a creature of habit and 3PM (C) is TN time for me...and I sure don't want to miss out on this patio.
I too was annoyed at Monica for crying when she thought Cami had stood her up...but then anything she does to try to "impress" him annoys me since I can't stand the fact that she is trying to snatch a man whose wife is supposedly dying...even though the wife asked her to do it.
Andy, I am with you on watching Granny and Chavela...it's a nice break from the Monica storyline. I also enjoy the scenes with Nico; especially when Diana tells him stories.
I don't think Regina was raped. Maybe she was "encouraged" by peer pressure or something similar. This baby was definitely conceived from love. And how is it that no one in the family has any clue as to whom the father could be? Do they never ask about her friends or who she is hanging out with? Maybe I should ask, "Does she have any friends?" since she went straight to the Gonzalez to ask if she could spend the night there. Oh well...just a not-so-good story...
Susanlynn, (((HUGS))) I continue to pray for you. Yours was a love that we all dream of and some never get to have.
RGV CHICK....Thanks for stopping by amiga. I agree...the afternoon time is a nice hour to take a break from chores, cooking, cleaning etc. and just put our feet up. And maybe, with a little luck, this story will take an upwards tick. As our resident humorist ANDY says, "it has nowhere to go but up". And you're right in that Regina seems to be strangely (and rather unbelievably) isolated. Classmates, teammates...nothing...Definitely a mystery that needs unraveling. I did enjoy her cleverness at thwarting the always shrill Eugenia.
>>>As our resident humorist ANDY says, "it has nowhere to go but up".
Eh, well, that is sometimes true. Sometimes not. I bailed from Sueño de Horror after a week or two and had no regrets whatsoever. ;-)
Don't get to see much and by the time
I get off work it's about to go off. I
Caught the part where Regina walked in
On paloma and Pablo about to flake the
Biscuit or finishing. Really girl? In
Your grandma's house.? Where's your rrespect? You may be a grown woman but girl that's your grandmother's house.
Who is That other elderly lady thatz in regina's house, her sister?
Mauricio must have had visions being the heir apparent to the camilio
Dynasty. What Kind of dynasty is it again?
So Diana is not quite ready to give up
Hubby. Why did moni even agree to that
Very bad deal anyway?
I like nico, is he the little guy? So
Cute. Maybe he can come up with a cure
For mommie.
The majority of these characters need
Some serious therapy.
JudyB Thank you for doin what you did with this episode. You work magic girl. Here's a bouquet for your hard work💐
Anyway, as always, glad you stopped by. We all get a hoot out of your comments.
As for Nico, I think we all like him. He is adorable, honest (to a fault, some would say) and by far the most likable person in this sorry group. Maybe the only likable person so far.
SUSANLYNN...Even though the phone conversation brought on more tears, how nice to know there were so many people who loved and treasured your dear Hub. He was clearly an unforgettable friend as well as the husband all women dream of...as as RGV CHICK pointed out, few of us get. Sadly, there is no consolation for such a loss. Only the determination to go forward, one day at a time.
