La Usurpadora - Gran Estreno!
Labels: usurpadora
Ria, what a wonderful surprise to see this waiting this morning!
What an excellent recap!
I gather you have commented/recapped before? I apologize but your name is not familiar to me.
I so enjoyed your sense of humor including "First family's house staff are entertaining themselves drawing horns on Paola's face" and "Paola quips that he has yogurt in his veins instead of blood (I swear that's what I heard and that is a hilarious quote, even if I misheard it!)". Simply great.
So Carlos is apparently a good man although seemingly unqualified to run a country. There is something with he and Gema. Perhaps simply an attraction - but something.
German Bracco will doubtless have ample opportunity to chew up the scenery as Emilio which will be grand.
Sandra is impressing me. Paola is grasping, devoid of a soul, but riveting. When your drug/gun running man shockingly realizes you are more evil than he, it's time to take stock of yourself. I think Gonzalo is up for a few weeks of fun, but I suspect he's not in this relationship for a lifetime commitment. I'm not sure what he said when Paola offered him a ring but I'd wager he will be on his guard from here on in.
"Divorce would really cramp his stellar progress right now". I'm not sure how he turns such a blind eye to Paola's hatred but his denial has already resulted in catastrophic consequences.
Ahhh Manuel. Such a wonderful actor reduced to being an errand boy/accomplice to murder.
Soon Paulina will be on the mend and things should really heat up.
Fast and furious. I thought this was amazing.
Thank you Ria! Marvelous...
Diana
I'm sorry Ria. I hadn't seen our previous post. Thank you so much for the character synopsis, complete with pictures.
Also, I did see Ana and apologize for not recognizing your name. My memory is not the best.
Your efforts are very appreciated!
Diana
I only saw bits and pieces of this show , but It looks like it Will be a good ride.
I am trying to place the lover. Was he in something else that I might have seen?
I recognized the white haired guy. He is one of my favorite actors.I
And creepy Guido . Ew
Wow, Ria, thanks for giving us a great first recap of a great first episode! Loved every minute of it. Fast moving, but enough to give us a real sense of each character. And action out the wazoo.
Yes, indeed, you did hear "yogurt instead of blood in his veins". At least that's what the closed captions said as well. Great line.
And loved this:
After the dinner Paola demands a divorce and breaks a few glasses for emphasis
Nicely put. I like the way you write. Direct, to the point, but with humor.
Yessss, our First Lady needs some anger management classes. I'm always so annoyed at seeing adults throw clothing on the floor and break glasses and crockery willy nilly. But maybe that's preferable to getting stone-blind drunk which seems to be the other telenovela alternative to handling rage.
The most fun for me was seeing our bland, boring Doc Bazán from Sin Tu Mirada, now playing a sexy, wiry but ripped rascal, who's loving up the first lady and then some. And agree with Diana, he was clearly in it just for a sizzling hot love affair (however long term) and not a marriage with a corpse to pave the way. Ms. Paola is some Pandora's Box! Wow.
Thanks for getting us off to a great start Ria. Much appreciated.
On a quick promo, I could have sworn there was a clip noting 4 new abbreviated TNs. One was this, one was Cuna de lobos and I would swear they also said "Rubi". Did anyone else catch that?
There appears to be something on U tube which I couldn't understand with Camila Sodi (?)
Any information would be appreciated! Thank you.
Diana
Diana, yes, it looks like “Germán Bracco will have ample opportunity to chew up the scenery.” Poor kid is going to get typecast.
Susanlynn, I remember the actor (Juan Martín Jáuregui) playing the lover as a journalist in “La candidata”. JudyB, so he was also in “Sin tu mirada”.
We were truly off to the races last night and that is a good thing.
Some thoughts:
A big Wow! For Paola/Paulina’s wardrobe! Exquisite. Made me want to get dressed up for something.
If we all knew where the secret doors were in public buildings . . .
Manuel had an interesting money bag drop off at the Chinese restaurant. Looked like he had done it before.
I was surprised that Carlos didn’t ask Paola/Paulina if she were ill with the extreme and abrupt personality change.
They better all watch out for Piedad on her scooter. I am sure she hears everything.
Paola is nuts. Punto final/period. Nasty, too: fat shaming her own daughter describing her as her tacky and a nothing. Paola blames Paulina for everything just because she exists. This IS the case of “the evil twin.”
There was a box of ashes belonging to Elisa Walters on the table next to the photographer/sniper. They bothered to show us, so who was she? Another mystery.
Since yesterday was Mexican Independence Day, it was sort of nice to have it coincide with the novela. That usually only happens in Mexico where they have coordinated novels with holidays.
Thanks for the nice words as well.
Carlos is indeed not the best person to run a country. He and Gema are actually lovers, and seems like he and Paola are mutually tolerating each other’s indiscretions, which both are aware of!
I agree Sandra is doing a great job playing two such different characters. Paola already looks a bit unstable with failing to grasp the seriousness of what she is doing and rather being excited like a child about her newfound freedom, as if she did not just put a diabolical plan in motion
It seems like he is much more attached to Paola than she is to him. I wonder what his plan is for when their plan is realized. Is he also planning his own Bora Bora trip with all of these dirty earnings?
Great to hear that I did hear the yogurt line correctly! That was some good writing from someone in LU crew :)
The Chinese restaurant bag drop did look like a practiced move. Wonder if we’ll see a few more of these throughout this TN.
Oh, very good point about Carlos - he got right on board with the personality change! No questions asked.... Very peculiar.
Elisa Walters ashes - interesting point. Wonder if that will play a role. Looked like the guy, who was taking photos and got knocked out by the sniper, was carrying around his wife’s (?) ashes?
Somehow I missed one important detail - Paola talking to the PI. I don’t know how I’ll like this fast paced story but I’ll try and keep up. Like I said in the other thread, I’m not a huge fan of Sandra E but maybe she will prove me wrong.
I saw something on Twitter that when a telenovela has characters that are twins (or triplets) that are noticeably good and evil, the evil one usually wears heavy makeup specifically thick red lipstick and slightly provocative clothing while the good twin has a natural and simple look. An example would be Ana Leticia and Ana Laura in 3VA.
I personally remember the actor that plays Gonzalo from Sin Tu Mirada.
Diana, Cuna de Lobos will start on October 21st replacing this one, I believe.
Paola knew exactly how to trap Paulina into the plan. Looking forward to the aftermath of the cliffhanger ending of this episode.
Ria, excellent recap, thank you! I will echo everyone else that you did a fantastic job and the humor is always a hit. This TN sure took off quickly, but I suppose that will be the norm with these 25-episode TNs.
Diana, Sandra is truly impressive in this TN. I've never seen her before, but she is starting out with a bang (figuratively and literally :-). Jarifa, I agree about the wardrobe; it's exquisite! Carlos does seem to be a good man, but he seems to have his priorities mixed up. Either way, I just love looking at him LOL
Question about Manuel: isn't he the guy who was in "Papa a Toda Madre" married to a very young thang? And he was also in "La Candidata?" Or am I confusing him with someone else?
JudyB, I sure did enjoy seeing our Doc Bazan here. I guess he has already gotten over Marina?? LOL But he still has that frazzled hair...but it didn't seem as greasy!
OT -Diana, I also saw that promo that you are asking about. It went by very quickly, but I had the foresight to record last night's episode and it caught the promo. Apparently there is a series of TNs which will be comprised of only 25 episodes and will include:
Cuna de Lobos (will start October 21st and replace La Usurpadora)
Quinceanera
El Maleficio and
Los Ricos Tambien Lloran
Another OT- We are very pleased that Ria is back and has offered to write recaps for "La Usurpadora." She is going to try to do all 25 episodes, but if some kind soul would like to help her, please let her know in the comments. Also, Ria will be posting stand-alone pages for her recaps on "La Usurpadora" so there won't be a need to identify the TN at the top of your comments. YAY!!
Diana, I saw "Rubi" road in screen during that promo for upcoming shows.
ADD me to the list of those who love the wardrobe.
Manuel was the guy married to young thang on "Papa." Very talented, good-looking guy who has played many different supporting roles well
Oh and yes, "Rubi" was mentioned in the promos, but I forgot to add it to the list above.
Ria, thanks a bunch. A super recap of a premiere that gave me whiplash because it moved so fast.
Yikes, Paola is bad to the bone. Bad enough she fat shames her young daughter, but she's rude to the staff too.
Amazing that Paola and Paulina grew up no doubt eating different cuisine and both fit into the same dresses perfectly!
When the sniper panned over the faces, and the folks on the balcony moved a bit, I was so sure he was going to hit Emilio or Lisette and that would bring Carlos and Paulina together. I didn't think it was going to be the Prez, even though the lens lingered over him--he has to last until the end. I NEVER had a clue it was going to be Paulina until BAM!
No wonder Paola, back there in Bora Bora, dismissed Gonzalo's observation that she was a married woman when she asked him to marry her and offered him a ring. He passes himself off as a big time (but unidentified) illegal gun merchant, but the look on his face as he realized that Paola had set this all up--Priceless. He'd better watch his back! I wonder where they met?
Gema is still a bit of a mystery to me. Ria, if you say so, they are lovers, but there are couples who are dependent on each other who aren't intimate. She's definitely the closest adviser he has. She'll be up against Manuel. May the best "man" win. (Daniela was most recently in Un Poquito Tuyo, where she played a college-age girl. Long ago, she was in Un Camino as a high school senior.) She looks very age-appropriate in this role. I think I like her.
Have we met the detective yet?
Did anyone recognize Josh Gutierrez from Un Poquito Tuyo? I hope he has a bigger role than that of security tv monitor person, wearing thick glasses.
All in all, terrific first episode and recap to match. Interesting story (with some inevitable holes in the premise--but that is what makes it a telenovela, no?).
These shorter series makes it difficult for selecting the TVyNovela prize-winners. Not too long ago, they created a new category--Serie (duh). One past winner was Mujeres de Negro, produced by Carlos Moreno Laguillo, who is on right now with Y Manana Sera Otro Dia...Mejor.
Susanlynn - thanks for the picture compliment, it’s one of my faves as well!
Niecie - you made me spit out my tea laughing with your “fitting into wardrobe” comment!! Too funny and indeed!
SpanProf - the pronunciations lessons were neat indeed - and very educational! I missed the “que tan” part - very interesting, thanks for pointing that out.
Anita, thanks! We have not met the detective quite yet, but it should be coming up here soon. As far as Gema, there was a moment there when the protests were getting a bit violent and Carlos put his arms around Gema to protect her. Paola walked in at the same moment and they broke the embrace. In turn, Paola said something flippant like “You can hug each other all day, as far as I am concerned”. I do like Gema too, she seems sensible.
thank you so much for this recap. I missed the first episode but I am very much looking forward to watching the next 24 episodes. Since my Spanish comprehension is only about 75%, this really helps.
Very much appreciated.
Lester
I don't remember you and you
Probly don't remember me either. But thats ok. But girl you pack a wallop of a recap. Love your snark.
"Yogurt in Your veins" thats a good one. I like yogurt. Not sure I'll like
This guy. I know him from other tns.
He a good actor. He doesn't look like he's Gonna like doing this insaneness for this twisted sister.
Now the drunk kid is her stepson and the girl with the weight problem is her child. Guess why she has an eating
Disorder. Doesnt she have a wonderful
Mother? NO!!!!!
They are moving fast,I like that. Now
I can get into tns like this. Short and sweet and to the point. Non of the prolonged agony for the two lovers.
And there will be lovers. This is so gonna backfire on that twisted sister. She is gonna have to watch El presidente Fall in love with her long lost sista. I'm gonna enjoy this. Lol.
And the boyfriend thats always having a bad hair day.Lol.
The look on his face was priceless. It
Was like he was thinking"if this bitch
Can do this to her sister what will she do to me?" Keep breathing you'll find out. I cant see her being alive At The end of this. The woman is EVIL!
The people that raised her, are they
Crazy like this? Well we got 24 more
Episodes to find that out. This is so
Crazy yummy.
Thank you Ria!
A small correction, at the end Paola was saying "Viva mi independencia"- she was making a toast to her freedom.
If you need help recapping I'm willing to commit to one recap a week, the fact that this is shorted makes it easier to commit to recapping.
Princess Juju: It's quite obvious that Gema is BAD NEWS just by looking at her Body Language because deep down, she wants the President, his family & obviously being First Lady.
Plus, whoever said Paola is crazy is spot on. That girl is downright CRAZY, CRAZY, CRAZY.
Ria: I did notice the look on Gonzalo's face too: he was like "I'm praying you don't do that to me." You & I are right about Paola not being among the living once this ends since it's consisting of only 25 episodes (guessing Univision likes those budget cuts).
Rgv Chick, yes, quite a character change for Manuel, right???
I'm not convinced that Gema and Carlos are lovers but I'm usually wrong about everything but. I would say the "good twin: showed up at just the right time.
Princess, nice to see you here.
Diana
RGV Chick: Let's not forget about Wilson, who is Paulina's boyfriend, I think he'll be a major factor down the road in this Telenovela.
Nina - thanks! And right on with the comment on why the kids have issues in such a dysfunctional family! But crazy yummy indeed - that’s for sure!
Princess Juju - thanks for the correction and yes, I would love to have you help share the recapping duties. Do you have a night that works best for you? Take your pick :)
Steve - Agreed on Wilson! Bet he is going to be a player here!!
Diana - Really fun discussion today indeed. Also we know it’s a good TN when spammers start showing up. Deleted two already... :)
Ria: What disgusted me was Paola making Paulina watch that so-called doctor giving Paulina's mother some "medicine" to take. I 100% believe we all agree Paola & whoever is involved in this sinister plot will be getting their anvils.
It feels like this is somewhat based on EPN & Angelica Rivera. I mean, Carlos (AKA President Bernal) has the EPN look: the hairstyle, the horrible approval ratings, corruption, etc.,
I agree with you - I think those are probably the two main reasons for Paola's plan. In today's episode it also appeared she had a grudge against Paulina, since she got to stay with their biological mother. We are now even, Paola said.
And also I thought the sickly lady was
Paulina's adopted mother and Paola was
Adopted by some horrible person that raised her to be a bitch. Which she so is.
23 to go, stuff will unfold.
