El Dragón #17, 10/22/19: One Benevolent Act; Will there be more Betrayal?

We begin with Miguel and Peligros walking into this bar run by some cartel thugs, where there seems to be forced prostitution going on. Pig and Tacho are watching from the balcony. He is greeted by someone who says, “So you are the famous Japanese person.” They sit down and ask Miguel how it is he does it, laundering the money. They call out the “girls” who obviously look forced and don’t want to be there. The “girls” are ordered to dance and one tells Miguel she is pregnant and to help her get out of there.

Back at the office, Jimena approaches Adela who is pouring herself a cup of coffee. “So how was everything in Miami?” says Jimena. Adela says, “Work was good. But the enjoyment was everything.” They sit down with their coffee and Jimena confesses her doubts to Adela since Adela was not a professional race car driver and only a chauffeur. Adela says the mission was a success, but Jimena says you don’t need a doctorate to use an accelerator. Then Adela opens a packet of sugar and sprinkles into Jimena’s coffee. “What are you doing?” says Jimena. “Just trying to take away some of the bitterness in you.” Says Adela.

Over at the bar where Miguel is with Peligros, the thugs get angry and pull a gun on him. Of course. Miguel uses his martial arts to disarm them and put them on the ground. He and Peligros walk out.  At the office, he has Flaco with a drawing of the girl who want to leave. He makes a plan with his staff at his office to rescue that prostitute out of there. Jimena doesn’t like the plan, expresses it to Miguel, but he says, “The decision is already made.” He walks away saying, “If you don’t like it, you can leave. Now excuse me.”

Miguel goes to the car where Adela is waiting for him. She tells him she wants to help in the rescue plan, but Miguel says it is too dangerous. “So who is going to do the driving?” Miguel says he will think about it. He smiles as she buckles her seatbelt. A jealous looking Jimena walks by outside and sees Miguel taking off with Adela. As she walks she bumps into a man walking down the sidewalk. She angrily tells him to watch where he is going.

Hector works at home doing research. His wife walks in, surprised. He is excited to see her and the baby.

At Miguel Garza’s home, Chisca walks in and Rosario tells her that someone is waiting for her. It’s Angel. He wants to talk to her, but Chisca isn’t very glad to see him. He wants to know what happened to them. He is upset that he is called when she is “dying” but then he helps her out and then doesn’t even get a thank you. So she says, “You’re right. Thank you. Now leave me alone.” He gets angry and grabs her arm. Then Valentín walks in and smacks Angel and Angel falls to the floor. Angel leaves.

In Jorge’s university class, the professor lectures and gives out the assignment. The assignment is to build a microprocessor. One of the other students says it’s impossible and argues with the professor. Two students get in to a shoving match and Jorge tries to slip away.

Miguel meets with Hector and Hector tells him he wants to meet with Dora. The subject goes to Carlos Duarte and Miguel says that Duarte nauseates him just as much. He says that Hector can speak with Dora, but please do not involve their family with anything of Duarte. Then Miguel says he wants Hector to do something for him, but it has nothing to do with his business dealings.

At Hector’s home, he is packing to go somewhere. He won’t share the information with his wife and they start to argue. She asks if it involves Miguel and she is angry. She tells him that he is there for the whole world, except for their family.

Hector makes the trip to Cuidad Jimenez to talk to Dora. He shows her a picture of a woman and asks if she has ever seen her there on the ranch. Dora says that she wasn’t on the ranch, but she did see her a couple years ago and had something to do with their business. She takes him to (what is that accountant’s name?) who identifies her as someone who worked for Duarte.

Jimena and Flaco are outside talking and Jimena complains about the assignment to rescue the prostitute. She says they are a financial business and they have no business getting involved in this plan. Flaco calls her out and tells her she is just jealous that she was not on the yacht with Miguel and she is just dying to be with “the boss” herself. Then she claims she is just worried and nervous about this plan. Tacho is observing and calls in saying, “I’ve got something interesting here.” He follows her home and just comes inside and offers her a beer. “So who are you?” says Jimena.

Tacho takes Jimena to a restaurant where Pig is waiting. She asks, “And who are you?” Pig answers, “I’m the man who is going to change your life.” “And what do you want?” He tells her he has a little job for her. Jimena says she already has a job. “You’re not very trusting.” Says Pig. Jimena replies, “Why would I be trusting? Some guy I don’t know follows me into my apartment then brings me at gunpoint here.”

But Pig wants her to spy on Miguel and report everything to him. He offers he a lot of money for this and tells her if she does it, then she and her family will be fine. But if she refuses, then she and her family will not be fine because then he will consider her his enemy. She wants to think about it, but he says he will give her only a few days. He writes down something for her and then tells her that Tacho will be watching her.

Adela drives Flaco to the thug/prostitute bar where he enters. One of the “girls” approaches him and asks how she can help him. Then he points to “Celia” and says he wants her. Flaco takes her and he is told to enjoy her. In the room, she was going to undress, but Flaco says he is there to help her. He has her take off her shoes. Outside, Peligros is using wire cutters. Inside the bar, mayhem breaks out. Peligros opens a window for Flaco and Celia to escape. They head toward Adela’s car and they speed off. But the bar’s owner/pimp sees them escape and goes after them.

Kenia helps Jorge with his project and he thanks her. Then Flaco knocks at the door and he brings Celia in. Kenia takes her out for a change of clothes to change her look. With some fresh clothes and a new look, Kenia takes her picture. Peligros comes in and asks if everything is ready. Flaco says, “It’s all fresh out of the oven.” He has made new paperwork for Celia, a new Colombian passport and license documents for her. Also a bit of cash to start a new life. Peligros says he will take her to the airport. She says she does not know how she can thank them all and wants to know who is responsible for all this. Peligros says it is their “patron” and not to think another moment about it. She gratefully says, “If I ever get back and if I ever get the chance, I am going to pay back every penny. I owe you my life.”

At home, Jimena drinks some more shots of tequila.

At Miguel Garza’s home, Adela has just made some enchiladas for Miguel and he enjoys them. She has a question to ask him though. “Why did you help that one prostitute and not any other one?” “Because she asked me to” says Miguel. “She was the only one?” “Yes, she is the only one who asked me,” says Miguel. He tells her that was that and that’s all there was to it. Adela asks, “Don’t you think that sounds kind of arrogant? I mean what you did was noble, but how you said it sounds arrogant.” Miguel then explains that she needed rescuing, so he decided to help her and that was it.

Hector and Claudia talk at work and he tells her that everything has been confirmed about Duarte, the bribes, and Natalia’s involvement. He says that Carlos Duarte was behind everything giving Natalia orders on what to do. But all this information is off the record because he promised Miguel he would keep their family out of it. Claudia is disappointed they cannot publish this, but he tells her that at least they have evidence that Carlos Duarte is involved with criminal activities. Next they have to visit the prison to find out information from the hitman who murdered her.

At university, Jorge brings in his project to class, but a couple of those bullies harass him and they end up breaking poor Jorge’s microprocessor. The two bullies just laugh at him. Jorge leaves with his broken project and hops on a bus.

Jorge gets off the bus and seems to be on the wrong side of town. A street gang follows him.

At the thug/pimp prostitute bar, the owner/pimp questions another prostitute if she remembers how Celia got away and what kind of a car it was. All she remembers was it was a dark colored car and not much of anything else. But guess who is there? Epigmenio is conveniently there and says that he thinks Miguel is behind all of this. They all pile into the SUVs and take off. They are on their way to Cuidad Jimenez. They make it to the Garza ranch and begin their plans by shooting the man in front.

Miguel & staff watch the good news about Novatech. Another woman elsewhere, (I don’t know her name) sees the newspapers. She pulls out a gun and shoots herself after seeing the Novatech news.

Thank You Cynthia. At the very end, the gal who shot herself was the Green Dress/Red Dress NovaTech chick from the tire test demo. I got the impression earlier she owned Novatech or at least was running the show. She was the one who chewed out the engineer because of the tire failure.

Loved it when Flaco told Jimena that she was bitchy because she knew that in Miami Miguel was on a yacht with Adela putting suntan lotion on places that didn't have a suntan. ZING.

Now immediately after Jimena and Mig butt heads over wasting company time and resources rescuing a human trafficking victim, she is confronted with an offer she can not refuse to backstab the Migster. Heaven hath no fury like a bimbo whose plastic investments are not working.

I liked the rescue adventure, but am at a loss how it fits into the grand scheme of things. Characters who display altruism, even when they are seriously flawed otherwise are always interesting. It at least allows a reprieve from hating them full time. See Chisca and NotVal

Did I mention that Chisca and NotVal can burn in hell? Angel should get far, far away from that train wreck in progress. Those box cars have biohazard stickers all over them.

Migster needs to get Adela something with a little more under the hood than a Nissan Altima. Rear wheel drive would be a plus too.

Poor Hector, I'd bet SusanLynn put a lot more thought into buying a car than he did in picking who to make babies with. I offer that she is having better results too.

As he is already too old to grow nuts, Jorge needs to get some Mace or a Taser.

Adela is at Miguel's HOUSE cooking enchiladas? Ooooo post some pics on Facebook for Jimena to see so she will for sure accept Pig's offer.

Thank you, Cynthia, for that excellent recap of all the action.

I like Flaco and loved that rescue. The world needs heroes. People have become very jaded , but it is important to know that good people still exist.

Cisca and Val are damaged souls who have become a bad, sad duo that will not end well.

Kirby...I take a long time to make a big decision. Hub used to say " Let things unfold" and sometimes the unfolding takes a long time. What's that old saying... " Marry in haste; repent in leisure. " Of course, today, many people choose never to marry . Life goes by very fast no matter what you do. Strive to be happy. These telenovelas show us lots of people making lots of bad decisions. Maybe we say , " Well at least I am not as messed up as Cisca or Val. "

Kirby: Jimena is BAD NEWS. I mean just look at the Body Language for God's sakes.

Susanlynn: I don't think we're through with Chisca wreaking havoc just yet because she's just getting started causing more chaos with her spoiled bratty expletive.

Why are Ximena and Adela sharing the same ugly pink lipstick? In real life, that color would look too weird.

Why save just one of the ladies in the brothel? The others were likely also held against their will.

For some reason the Chisca character is ridiculous, but Sofia Castro's character takes the cake. Looking at her is as painful as listening to nails on chalkboard. Also, the Adela character just seems off in some way here.

Steve: Jimena finds herself in a situation where a great pair of legs, Miss Clairol and an impressive pair of bolt-ons benefits her none. Notice after being almost forced to down a Tequila with Pig, she went home and virtually attacked her own bottle.

I suspect if she finds about the romantic enchilladas, it is a done deal. Now if she were truly on team Migster, she would tell him, put her family in hiding, and let Miguel assign a half dozen 24/7 bodyguards with Sumitomos and hand grenades.

Will she? Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Diana agree about Chisca. Never been more ready for someone to come to a painful end. And take loverboy / face puncher with her.

Thanks for your comments everyone.

Kirby: Thank you for identifying the woman who shot herself. I don't know about Jimena. She certainly isn't too bright is she? I don't know what is stopping her from going to Miguel and telling him that Pig approached her with this proposition so he would be able to be on guard and take care of business. I mean does he have a way of knowing every move she makes and every sound she makes?

Susanlynn: I agree about Valentin and Chisca. This will surely not end very well.

Woohoo--A Cynthia classic. To the point. Thank you. The suicide dame, as Kirby pointed out was promoting Novotec, her company. Her name was Paula (RIP).

Not sure who the company belonged to when Miggie started playing with the stock, especially when we saw those headlines that Novotec and Grace were going to go into business together. We know Grace belonged to Miggie, at least for a little while. Very confusing. We need ESTHER to straighten us all out.

Kirby--FYI, Adela lives at the HOUSE with Miggie. It's Rosario who should be upset. Chisca's nose has always been out of joint since Miggie told her ixnay about Adela living elsewhere. Ximena would just be jealous for any reason.

Thus far, the fast paced action is fun. It kind of reminds me of an Ocean's 11 or Ladron Que Roba a Ladron. We get the initial scheme, the caper and the successful conclusion, but we don't get to be in on the actual plotting. Fun anyway. A petite distraction from all the shoot 'em ups that are a necessary part of narco-novelas.

Cynthia--Of course Ximie should go to Mig right away. If she did we wouldn't have a traitor in the midst to bedevil Mig and Adela for the next 20 epis, or at least until someone outs her. She'll be sure to beg forgiveness at that point. She won't go away until El Fin.

What I didn't understand is how Tacho let himself in so easily. Doesn't she have double and triple locks like all sensible Mexicans, even ones with a 24/7 concierge in a secure, pricey downtown dig?

I fear for Dora. I wonder if Mig will blame Hector for the invasion.

Thank you, Cynthia! It's been a busy day so I have very little time to comment.

What surprised me was how Pig figured out so quickly that Miggy was responsible for the rescue.

And I really enjoyed Miggy showing Ximena the door if she didn't like what he was doing. HA!

Thanks, Cynthia. My fave: Then Adela opens a packet of sugar and sprinkles into Jimena’s coffee. “What are you doing?” says Jimena. “Just trying to take away some of the bitterness in you.” Says Adela.

Ooh, snap!

The rescue was my favorite sequence in this TN so far. Peligros, the suit guy (don’t remember his name), Flaco, and Adela all working together.

If Jimena is as smart as she thinks she is she’ll realize it's safer to tell Mig than to fall in with Pig, who would never stop threatening her with death or worse if she doesn’t do what he demands. Plus, she sees herself as a classy chick on the cutting edge and there's nothing classy about Pig and Tacho. The thing to do is to tell Mig all and go undercover with Pig until Mig can fix things. Cause Mig has superpowers and can fix anything (if you tell he what's going on, I'm looking at you Chisca).

I wondered also about how Tacho got into Jimena's place so easily, especially carrying two ice cold Dos Equis XX. I could have sworn the backdrop was out a non-ground floor window, but I got sidetracked quickly looking at her and forgot all about the background. Woof.

Anita, I haven’t seen the episodes yet, but love keeping up with the comments. I will start watching tomorrow. I will see what I come up with out of the business end. In another life, business is what I did, so I will add my two cents in Friday’s recap.

I'm just trying to catch up you guys so I can jump in the sandbox!

Thanks for the incredible recaps everyone.

What was the point of the beach side shutout???

Margaret

Kirby, I nominate this comment for the sidebar.:

Heaven hath no fury like a bimbo whose plastic investments are not working.
