El Dragón #7, 10/8/19: It’s not Personal, it’s just Business!

We begin with Miguel and Jimena meeting and Jimena accepting Miguel’s offer. She puts her purse on the table in front of her and immediately, Miguel opens the purse and takes out her pistol, disarming it. “I want an explanation” says Miguel. “Do you always carry a gun in your purse?” She apologizes and says that if she is going to work in illegal business, she has to protect herself. Miguel responds by telling her she is working in finance, not as a hitman. He further explains that her security is on him and then gives her a pen to sign the contract. “Boy, you sure know how to impress a lady,” she says. The secretary comes in and says someone is waiting outside for Miguel.

The business consultant who came to see Miguel discusses the different type of business that he can run from there. An engineering business, a construction business, and ecological business among others. Miguel says, “I need the Russians.”

In an underground parking lot, Duarte and Pig are conversing about how to get rid of Miguel. Of course, Pig wants Duarte’s help in this and that they have 15 days to accomplish this. Pig reminds Duarte that he is going to be head of the Salado gang. Duarte agrees to help but with one condition, that he be advised on everything that is going on.

In the support group, Hector wants to tell the stories of those who were victimized and killed.  They are people with stories and families and their stories need to be told. The group applauds Hector.

In Miami, Karina and Andrei meet together. Karina asks him if he has a response. Then Andrei says, “Karina, I don’t want to be wrong about this.” Karina says, “So what does a girl have to do to get your confidence?” Andrei says that he believes in her but he has other things on his mind.  She explains that this is the best deal they have had and it may not come again. He finally says, “It’s a deal. I’m in.” Karina tells him that he will not regret it. “By the way, what are we going to do with Sergei?” Andrei responds that he and Sergei come from two different syndicates and if he doesn’t want in on this, then that is his problem. Karina responds, “I like your attitude. Now let’s go to Mexico City to work things out.” Then they have a toast to the new contract.

In Mexico City, Pig and Tacho come over to meet with El Chano, the big drug distributor in Mexico City. Of course, Pig wants to do “business” with El Chano and after an understanding, then they shake to their new alliance.

Hector speaks to Arturo, one of the men in the support group about his deceased daughter Natalia. An interesting point Arturo makes is that his daughter Natalia was the secretary to Carlos Duarte. Hector asks, “Do you think that Duarte is linked to her death?” Arturo says no he was not. Hector asks if he can speak to Arturo’s wife, but Arturo says that his wife just does not want to talk about this anymore.

Pig and Tacho are shown to their “room” over at El Chano’s place. It’s a large storeroom full of boxes. Tacho says, “I don’t think we can sleep here.” But Pig says, “It will have to do for now.”

An associate of Miguel’s come from Japan (sorry, I didn’t get his name) with a gift from Tadamichi. Inside was what appeared to be a samurai sword and a note inside a box that said, “May it be that you need to use the sword only once in your life, but it is necessary to keep it with you forever.” They sit down and Miguel gives him an assignment to launder some money through various businesses. Miguel also says he needs a cybertech expert. But then his associate asks, “Do you really mean a hacker without scruples?” Miguel says, “You said it not me.” The associate mentions Manuel Tormo who just got out of prison and he’s a genius. Miguel goes to look him up online, but can’t find anything. Obviously, he knows how to clean up.

At Miguel’s home in Mexico City, Angel comes to visit Chisca. Adela and Rosario chuckle about an “angel” coming to see Chisca. They are joking around when Chisca appears and Chisca tells Adela to stay away from her friends. They get into a little tiff together.

In Miami, Sergei pays off someone to go after Karina and Andrei in Mexico City. It doesn’t look good at all. These are not nice guys! Also at an IRS office in Miami, the officer says he is off to Mexico City for a vacation with his wife. [Not sure what this is all about, but it could get interesting. I thought all the IRS did was audit tax returns, not go after people in Mexico out of their jurisdiction. ]

Miguel returns home from a hard day at work and is greeted by Rosario and Adela. She says she is much better. She tells Miguel that his brother Jorge doesn’t eat, or do much of anything else, even shower. She wants to know what is wrong with him and Miguel explains that they were all witnesses to their parents’ murders and it has all been very tough on them. Someone is listening in on their conversation. The house appears to bugged.

Chisca throws a fit over Adela sitting at the dinner table with the family. She makes some snide remarks about Adela replacing Aysa in his bed. Adela and Chisca both leave the table. Miguel goes to talk to Chisca and he tells her he wants peace. But someone is watching and listening in.

In Cuidad Jimenez, Dora explains to the crew that Miguel is a man of his word and is very much  like Lamberto.

Next morning, Miguel has Adela drive him to the office. She starts singing with the radio. She tells Miguel that he is a man of few words. He responds by saying that he just got used to the Japanese culture. His phone rings and it’s Karina telling him she has just arrived. They arrange to meet at 1:30 p.m. to discuss plans.

Miguel sits down to eat his breakfast and some guy comes from behind telling him everything he knows about him. Then Miguel grabs him, using his martial arts expertise and twists this guy’s arm. Finally he admits that he is “El Flaco” Manuel Tormo, the “hacker.” So Miguel asks “El Flaco” to come to work for him.

Adela strikes up a conversation with Miriam, the receptionist from Miguel’s office. As they are talking, Jimena comes up and says (in somewhat of a bitchy fashion) to Miriam, “Are you working?” Miriam then says, “Yes, I am working.” Adela then introduces herself to Jimena letting her know she is Miguel’s driver. A minute later, Jimena thinks she can give some files to Adela and deliver them to Miguel. But Adela says, “Sorry, no can do. Miguel hired me to be his driver, exclusively, nothing else. So I’m not a gopher here.” Jimena is not too happy to hear that.

At the Mexico City hotel where Andrei and Karina are staying, Sergei and his hounds have found out what rooms Andrei and Karina are occupying. But Andrei, already outside has seen them and calls Karina to watch out and get out. She hastily gets her things and runs for the elevator. Sergei and his goons go after Karina and she tries to escape them. They follow her to the mall and after a chase, she hides in the ladies room. Then she calls Miguel and tells him her situation. Then somehow, the IRS guy from Miami finds Karina’s room feigns to the housekeeper he has a stomachache, so the housekeeper leaves. Then he snoops around her room and finds where she wrote the address of the restaurant. [Does Karina owe taxes in the USA or what?] Since the pad of paper only has the indentation where the address was written, IRS guy figures it out, using the Dick Tracy method.

Miguel hastily comes out of his office, tells Adela that he needs to go now. And with the speed and expertise of Mario Andretti, she gets through the Mexico City traffic and drops him off in the underground garage. Next we see Miguel with a bunch of balloons to disguise himself. He gives the balloons to a little boy. He finds Karina in the ladies room. They make a run for it. As they try to leave through the elevator, Sergei and his goons trap Miguel and Karina at gun point, saying, “Where’s Andrei?”

Sorry I couldn't get some of the names, like the guy in the IRS office and the one who came to see Miguel in his office bringing the gift from Japan.

Thank you, Cynthia, for another excellent recap. The guy in the IRS office is played by Alejandro Ávila but I could not find the name of that character anywhere. Annoying. I hope somebody else caught it. Yes, it could get interesting with this guy going “on vacation.” Ah, “the Dick Tracy” method! That made me smile.

I didn’t like

Miguel’s house being bugged. How long until he finds out?
Everyone making contingency plans “just in case” Miguel doesn’t come through on his part of the deal.

I did like Adela establishing herself as Miguel’s driver. Cute.

Jarifa,

Alejandro Ávila is playing IRS Agent Howard Toledo.

It was already revealed who was spying on Miguel and his family in last night's episode. It's the hacker Miguel did an internet search for in the first half of the episode (recommended by his Cuban associate). Later, the hacker whose name is Manuel alias "El Flaco" revealed himself to Miguel while he was eating breakfast and began commenting on personal details of Miguel's life. Miguel strong armed him until the hacker revealed that he was the guy Miguel did the search for, and in doing said search. "El Flaco " is so skilled that he was able to intervene Miguel's phone and spy on him. Miguel hired him on the spot but gave him a stern warning about never spying like that without his authorization.

Thanks, anon. That now sounds familiar!

Thanks, Cynthia, great recap!

I can do without all the bizness in this TN but I'm I'm really enjoying Adela. She's got quite a bit of spunk and loooved the way she handled Chisca and Jimena.

The other storyline that is of interest to me is Hector's involvement with the support group that is headed by Natalia's father. Just to remind everyone-- Hector's partner, Claudia, found the info on the support group; so Hector already knew that Arturo was Natalia's father. Hector joined the group specifically to get info on Carlos from Arturo.

Thanks Anon! I thought I recognized the actor Alejandro Avila, I just couldn’t place him. When I looked him up, I realized he played “Marcos” on “Vino el Amor” and played the husband of “Marta”, played by Cynthia Klitbo. Also his character was the father of Irina Baeva’s character, “Luciana.” This is a good lineup!

I am loving the character Miguel because he is just so cool, calm, and collected. Nothing seems to phase him; he just reacts with a purpose.

Anyway, one of these days I’ll get all the characters’ names down. It takes me a while. Until then, I’ll use phrases like I did for “IRS guy” and so forth.

Cynthia: Thank you very much for showcasing your recap. It's AWESOME.

Irina Baeva is so damn good being the Antagonist & she's super SEXY doing it too.

Thanks, Cynthia. Great job. My fave: And with the speed and expertise of Mario Andretti, she gets through the Mexico City traffic and drops him off in the underground garage.

How lucky for Mig that the Uber driver he hired at first sight has such incredible skill! That scene was well done, especially on a TN budget.

I'm feeling overloaded by the bad guys on top of bad guys. I think I'm supposed to care about the bad finance lady that's running from badder guys, but I've got no feeling for her. Except that she runs well in a snug dress and heels.

Dora's story is intriguing. Dora seems to be working an angle of her own. I'm not clear if she's 100% in support of Mig.

Pig and Tacho are shown to their “room” over at El Chano’s place. It’s a large storeroom full of boxes.

Tacho puts up with Pig's verbal and physical abuse and public humiliations. Now he's going to spend 15 days sleeping in a box storeroom with him? Goodness, how much money is Pig paying Tacho to put up with this? Just kidding, can't stand Tacho. He gets what he gets.

She tells Miguel that his brother Jorge doesn’t eat, or do much of anything else, even shower. She wants to know what is wrong with him and Miguel explains that they were all witnesses to their parents’ murders and it has all been very tough on them.

Mig, it's been 20 years. Time to do something about this.

Thanks, Cynthia , for another great recap of all the action.I am having some trouble keeping all these characters straight.
P.s. My hub once met Andretti at a car wash . He said that he was down to earth and friendly.

Thanks everyone for your comments!

Susanlynn: That must have been fun for your husband meeting Mario Andretti. And at a car wash! Did you live near him?

Niecie: I agree. It's been 20 years. Did he ever get therapy or counseling?

Jarifa: I too agree that Adela not wanting to be pushed around by someone else and establishing her "position" to Jimena was great.

We shall see what happens with the elevator scene and the Russian mob vs. Miguel.

Cynyhia....yes.

What is Rulli suppose to accomplish by the deadline which expires in 2 weeks?

For future readers--

Anon @8:41 - Mig promised his Ciudad Jimenez "bidness" partners he would double (or triple) their money and establish legit businesses to funnel their dirty money through. He needed 30 days and they gave it to him. Time is running out--although it has only been 8 days. E-Pig is trying to rub him out before time is up, without the hit being traced back to him--as if he could.

The guy who brought Mig the sword from Ishiro in Japan is none other than Venezuelan actor Jean Paul Leroux (who was in Quiero Amarte, clean shaven, no glasses and fell for Juliana, played by....wait for it...Alejandra Barros). He's listed as a special guest star, so we may not see him again, or much.
