El Dragón #21, 10/28/19: Show Me the Money

Miguel had stripped off his shirt and was having some nooky with Jimena in his glass office. Adela watched briefly through a glass door, then walked away.

Dora sat in the house and Peligros came back telling her that the job was done. She was relieved. He missed being on a ranch; the city wasn't really his thing. He said something about how Miguel really didn't need protection but Dora said that even Miguel has weaknesses.

Jimena tried to get Miguel to say she was more competent than Adela. She failed.

Jorge and Kenia went out to eat. He tried to get her to open up to him but failed.

Miguel and Jimena talked about not mixing work and play [Isn't it a little late for that conversation?]

Duarte and Pig talked about Miguel. Pig admitted that his most recent actions didn't turn out as planned. Duarte wants Miguel out of the way, but is patient for the moment.

At the dinner table Adela talked about the food she would like for the gala. She talked about tacos and enchiladas; she has much to learn here. There almost was another fight between her and Chisca.

Kenia and Pilar talked about Kenia's past; she is currently unregistered. [My dinero says she was a victim of sex trafficking and is now unregistered for her own safety.] Flaco knows about it but she prefers Jorge, whose judgement she is afraid of.

Jorge had another nightmare about his parents. Adela listened at the door but didn't wake him.

The Next Day: Adela told Dora about Jorge's nightmares. She said he always had dreams and promised to talk to him about it. She talked first to Chisca, who talked trash about Adela for not minding her own beeswax but did confirm that Jorge was prone to nightmares.

At the staff meeting Miguel gave out the assignments regarding the gala for the foundation.

A Few Days Later: Chisca got high on cocaine and called Valentin's office. He was not in, so she played mind games with his wife(?).

Hector got a call from a government official who was concerned about losing his job. The club where the massacre took place was about to be sold and Duarte is somehow involved with that. Hector is still looking for the killers of his sister.

Night: Adela dressed up for the gala; Miguel said she looked perfect. She was still nervous. Later as politicians enter with their wives they aren't talking much to the eager press. Miguel greets the politicians as they arrive. They include Enrique Bourgos (whoever he is) and his wife. Carlos Duarte arrives. The chess pieces are being put in place.

Chisca snorted more happy dust and tried to call Valentin but got his voicemail again. She called Angel and then went to see him.

Jimena tried to start another fight with Adela, but Miguel got to them to tell them that Duarte was there.

Hector and his wife almost had another fight about security. Both kinds. She is afraid that he will ditch her for Claudia.

Duarte pretends to make nice with Miguel who is likely onto him.

Chisca went to Angel's place; he wasn't too happy to see her.

At the 15-minute countdown to the presentation Jimena tried to make sure Adela would screw up in front of all the important peeps. She finally said that what relaxes her is sex, flaunting that she had boinked Miguel. Adela retaliated with a reminder thto Jimena that she is not Miguel's wife [Meow!].

Angel took Chisca to an S&M club which looked also like a Satanic cult with its red robes and masks.

Adela started her presentation and was doing well until the video or slide show didn't begin. She ad-libbed successfully, though, much to Jimena's chagrin.

Flaco and Kenia were ID-ing guests all evening.

Miguel talked to everyone in the room; we learn that he also speaks German.

Jimena continued tryign to bait Adela during the “after-party” of the staff.

Chisca – who survived the S&M club – went down to the kitchen to talk to Peligros, who was eating a breakfast happily prepared by Rosario. He told Chisca he and his men only take orders from Miguel.

Hector met with another journalist – Ronaldo Cuña – to talk about his sister's murder. Cuña said he had to leave his name out of this. Flashback to the night of the massacre and we see that Tacho was the shooter. Cuña fingered the Pig.

I'm loving your recaps. You always give us detailed translations and this helps for those of us (me) who, while we might be somewhat bilingual, still find the dialogue, soundtrack, and/or slang difficult to catch. Regarding Mexícan slang, you guys remember Mí Corazón es Tuyo? OMG.

It's a big chore going between Sebastián Rulli as Miguel (ED) and Arturo (Teresa) at the same time.

You guys were loving and praising SR's acting with his role in Teresa, particularly his ability in Teresa to emote passion, anger, hurt, etc. His facial expressions as Arturo were a wonder to watch. Additionally, there were many comments about SR losing the Best Actor award to FC. Even as a FC fan, I agree wholeheartedly.

Here in El Dragón, his character is so much more restrained, it'll be very interesting to pay attention to how he expresses his reactions to the events that evolve around him—good, bad, indifferent—and ascertain whether Garza's personality and reactions are self-controlled, cold, calculating, etc. For me, he seems hard as a rock.

Cynthia Klitbo is doing a bang-up job as Dora.

How cool is the 'Jin' logo or what??? Great graphic design.

Wow, 43 minutes of a boring, slow episode for 10 seconds of something interesting at the very end.

Thank you , UA.

Jimena is so catty, and Sylvia annoyed when Adela state cool and doesn't rise to her tauntibg.

Cisca involvement with Val and Angel is going to be her undoing. She wants to be such a tough, bad girl. She almost overdoses , and then she is right back to the drugs.

As soon as I saw the S&M club I imagined things would go too far. That may take a few more episodes.

One thing that got me was the hair. Jimena and Adela both looked like their hair was dirty and full of oil to be slicked down like that. Speaking as someone whose hair does that, why is this a thing?

Victoria, I was on the recap team for MCET; I posted lots of photos to it. It was more fun to do than this, which has dialogue faster than I can keep up with.

Thank you much UA. Not to sound too bitchy, but even I noticed the plastered hair on both the woofables. But what do I know.

I have to give credit to Adorable Adela. She sucked it up and carried on like a good soldier. I loved her jab at Jimena about all those others like her (Jimena) in all those hotel rooms. It is understandable how Adela is not exactly besties with Jimena or Chisca.

I wondered what was the point in our following Angel and Chisca through a primer for Hell.

Curious what Kenia is hiding as the first thing which comes to mind, looking at her, is a drug charge.

I have to say, the recap was better than the snoozer episode. Thanks again

When I saw that party scene that Angel took Chisca to, I thought that the writers must be familiar with Hieronymous Bosch's painting of hell. Yes, that party was hurt what a drug addict needed. Shame on you, Angel.

Thanks, UA, your recap was so much more exciting to read that to actually watch the show.

Victoria, "43 minutes of a boring, slow episode for 10 seconds of something interesting at the very end" ITA I found myself getting quite distracted. That dinner may have been productive for Mig, but it sure was BORing. And Urban, I agree about he slicked back hair...is that how the filth and rich B's wear their hair nowadays?

Kirby, I have no idea why we were taken down that primer for Hell...they just cut it and suddenly showed Chisca the next morning...all smiles as if she had had a grand ol' time. And, I think Kenia's secret is much more than a drug charge. It was something that led to someone getting rid of her file and could be the end of her if found out.

RGV: "idea why we were taken down that primer for Hell...they just cut it and suddenly showed Chisca the next morning...all smiles as if she had had a grand ol' time. "

Yup..Chisca understandably, looked like she had been to a spa which is probably what that was for her.

OK....so is Kenia actually a BOY?

Could Kenia be trans? That would be interesting, indeed.

Bosch's painting is a great image for that. I doubt that we've seen the last of that place.

I was going to venture the same guess about Kenia being trans, particularly because of Juan Osorio's /Univisión's latest productions seeming to escape the envelope of typically acceptable storylines.

They seem hell bent on censuring the juicy, romantic love scenes, but gun-ho on exposing us to rape, violence, carnage, etc. The S&M club thing was super surprising to me.

UA: I'm assuming Miguel picked up where Carlos from "LU" left off when having sex.

Victoria: Univision is too PC when sex scenes are shown in Telenovela's. Telemundo on the other hand, shows all of the steamy sex escapades.

Kirby: Did you say Kenia is actually a GUY ? WTF ?

Steve. There was a question mark..like wondering if that is her secret.

Interesting guesstuppose on Kenia being trans. It's a possibility, but the feeling I got was that she would be in danger. Could she be under a witness protection program? or maybe related to some powerful bad people? Oh, I know! She's a transmigrant from Amar a Muerte! :-D

Urban--Thank you, you always put your heart and soul into whatever tn you are covering AND covering it with screen shots. This, is an unbelievable archive for those who visit Caray to read recaps and can't get to see the whole tn as broadcast. The time and effort you put in is indescribable. Thank you.

Well, not to dispute, I found the episode more interesting than the rest of you. Miguel was "marking his territory" by making sure he did his meet and greet as well as any queen or prime minister.

What Chisca wanted from Peligros was a ride out to Ciudad Jimenez. She'd run out of her own white powder and I don't think Angel is in the business--he only shares his. CJ must be where she can obtain a resupply. I'm glad Peligros turned her down--in no uncertain terms. She went off in a huff to see if she could get Miggy to turn around the decision. Fat chance, honey.

Adela put away her written notes before the video. She told the crowd she would rather make it a more informal (i.e. folksy) delivery on her expectations. One of the phrases that brought a laugh towards the end was her putting her hands in everybody's pockets (for the donations).

Adela was very upset--I don't remember whether it was this episode or last--that Jimie assumed she knew the construction company that was going to provide something "concrete" was fake, merely a front to funnel the money that needed washing. That was one of her digs, I think. Didn't Adela then let Miggy know that something real had to come out of this foundation? It seems to me he agreed.

Re Kenia: I'd opt for her being in a witness protection program. We'll keep our eyes and ears out for further hints. Do we know where she and El Flaco met? He's not so lily white around the collar himself. Miguel hired him based primarily on his success at hacking into their computers and the rest of their electronic technology and is now trading on all his abilities. Hmmm. Didn't he do a Google search on El Flaco? He must not have for Kenia. He just took El Flaco's word that she's a whizz kid.

RGV--Transmigrated soul from Amar a Muerte? I wish. There WERE some odd people who were transmigrated. We never found out where the original Beltran's soul was, nor where Lucia ended up.

Susanlynn--OT, Outlander. I got Starz just to watch Outlander but found that waiting for the whole season to show up OnDemand was the way for me to watch. It was so addictive I wanted to watch episode after episode whenever I felt like it and not on a once a week schedule. The story now departs from the last book I read. I guess I'll have time to read the next in the series before February.

RGV, wouldn’t it be great to see some transmigration pop here in this novela. When Chisca was pouting about her need for speed and no one was helping, I wanted to say ,”Chisca, chin up”. Then I realized, that the actress, really has a chin up. Really hate her character.....

Oh Adela. Adela is a sharp little cookie. AND was a reasonably fair and honest person from all accounts before she became mixed up it this Garza Mess. Look at them. The business is money laundering and Heaven knows what else. Competition stops by the remote location and kills all but one or two employees. Owners sister is a crack Hoe. The IT department looks like it should be swinging from trapezes or shot out of canons.

She was a little hesitant when Miggy first let her in on the Miami game plan, but it appeared she hesitantly went along primarily because she is in competition with Jimena and the majority of Caray for Miguel. Now that she has seen him doing the wall bop at work with Jimena how loyal can she be? It would appear that the shine id=s almost off the prize for her. Will she stick around now, even if she is the head of the new fake charity?

I think she will. She is the next in a long line of protagonistas who hang out and wait out any attraction between the galan and the bad girl. Think of Ana in MCET and Ana Paula in LQNPA.

Was the actress playing Kenia Soto's bratty daughter in Vino De Amor? She looks familiar. Why do people think she might be trans ? I am confused.

susanlynn, yes, Kenia (Sofia castro) was Soto's bratty daughter; sh esure has changed, huh? The "trans" idea is just one of the ideas floating around as we try to predict what her BIG secret is.

Kirby, "Adela is a sharp little cookie. AND was a reasonably fair and honest person from all accounts before she became mixed up it this Garza Mess." Exactly! She has more morals than most, but she is still willing to engage in some not so nice activities. Heading the foundation that will help some people while laundering money is kinda like helping out a family whose father was murdered "in the line of business."

Anon 1:51, Yeah having some transmigration pop in would really stir things up...and raise the ratings :-)

Susanlynn--Sofia Castro also played Eugenia, the General's daughter in the turn of the century drama El Hotel de los Scretos (plyaing now on UniMas), but she's left the little pantalla with Daddy.

Her birthday is tomorrow. She turns 23. She is the daughter of Angelica Rivera and Producer José Alberto Castro. She is the step-daughter of Pres. Enrique Peña Nieto.

Kirby--"...wall bop..." that's a new one for me. Love it. Will have to add it to my vocabulary somehow, as in, "I can watch Michel Brown and Angelique Boyer do the wall bop in Amar a Muerte over and over and risk being labeled a voyeur."

Thank you UA! You filled in gaps for me because I didn't watch it very thoroughly. I didn't even realize about and S&M club....Chisca is always asking from trouble and is so totally self destructive.

Susanlynn, yes the actress playing Kenia is Sophia Castro who played "David's" daughter. Or DAHVEED. LOL...

RGV Yeah with Adela, I kinda feel bad for her because going to work with the (I've been told) dreamy Miguel Garza is beginning to look like romantic quicksand .

Thanks, Urban.

Chisca needs a psych so badly. If it's not addiction to coke, it's addiction to Valentin.

Adela looked great at the banquet. ITA too bad she got a straightening iron and took the bounce out of her hair though.

Where is Tax Man? I miss him in the story.

I agree with you RGV, Kenia tells her roomie/girlfriend “si me descubren estoy muerta” if they find me, I’m dead. So I am guessing she saw something. Hey... maybe she is going to eventually tie into the whole Duarte story. Like she saw the murder or something. I think it’s a good bet she isn’t trans. But who knows.

Anita, I agree, I too found this episode interesting on a subtler level. Not all the action of previous episodes but lots of play going on underneath the action.

Someone made a comment about how SR’s expressions were so great to watch in Teresa. I feel like the restraint of this character is less Novela and more American in its luck of over the top esa. I imagine it has to be hard to act keeping the looks in check and giving a little away but not all of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the spats between Jimena and Adela. Adela made Jimena look like another Karina by letting her know how little sleeping with Miguel meant to him. As his driver, she would be privacy to his hook ups. And when Miguel told Jimena, this is why she is the ideal person, Jimenas’s iré was palpable.

Also, Jimena’s attempt at trying to make Adela nervous with the cover of sincerity was too much. Adela is being herself and Jimena is trying too hard.

Ester

Yes, Kenia seeing something she shouldn't have seen, and which puts her in mortal danger, makes a great deal of sense. Although, I doubt she would be in a Mexícan Witness Protection Program. That'd been asking to be killed. It's probably a leaking bucket. Are we to understand that Flaco does know and helped clean her social media record?

Urban

Yes, you and all the recappers on MCET help guide me through so much Mexícan slang words/sayings/phrases on that one and many others. Slang is hard to dictionary hunt, phrases even harder; e.g. a quién le da pan que llore -- Something along the lines of don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

TOTALLY, TOTALLY, O/T
but funny to me, at least, I remember how quickly I learned Gringa, Güera, and Puta when in University in Mexíco. With my Irish looks and super long carrot-top red hair that was basically what I was called in that 1970s 'macho' Mexícan environment. Most machos thought young Norte Americanas were Putas (hippies mostly, and thus free-spirited). I guess they don't do that anymore in Urban areas, probably justed the whistling.

Then I learned to carry rocks in my pocketbooks when away from school and twirl it around for a good right hook. OMG can you imagine doing that now?? So further funny, after my first year, I met a Mexícan guy who was a good friend of my Dominican boyfriend/husband as they had gone to Virginia Military School together. He also just happened to be a titled Mr. Mexíco Body Builder. He took me under his wing, telling everyone I was Gringa girlfriend. The guys flew like flies.

That story is why I have such a hard time understanding the so, so provocative way the wardrobe Depts are dressing the Mexícan novela career women. Tres Veces Ana!

For y'all, do they really dress that provocatively nowadays??

Sorry for the side story. I couldn't help myself, as even here Jimena AND the Russian were letting it out.
