El Dragon #38, 11/22/19 - Whack a Mole Explosion!

Another Friday is upon us and this time with the end of, what the rest of the world will see on Netflix as the season Finale for Season 1. So I am guessing that it should be a good one. But for us, it is just another Friday night cliffhanger, thank you Univision. So let’s jump in.

First, we open with Hector. He is being tortured by Epig! Interestingly enough, Epig has done exactly what Miguel told him not to do. He is not leaving Hector alone. In the opening scene, he is holding a gun to his head telling him he needs to say his prayers because he is going to the bone yard. Epig takes a shot, but is messing with Hector. Because he doesn’t actually shoot him. He is a complete jerk, pretending to not understand why the shot didn’t kill Hector and telling him he is usually good for the third shot. Just trying to play mind games. Hector begs him to kill him. Epig tells Hector that if he opens his eyes he will put a bullet between his eyes. But Hector obviously doesn’t have that much of a death wish because he doesn’t open his eyes.

In the apartment of Hector and Ana, Ana has made a decision, the only resource that she hasn’t exhausted is calling Miguel. Claudia is there as well, and tells Ana that the last person Hector would want her calling is Miguel. Ana tells Claudia “I am willing to do whatever it takes to find my husband. If I have to ask help of the woman he cheated on me with, I’ll do it. And if I have to deal with a drug lord, so be it.” I loved this. Ana showing some gumption, and the way she said it right in Claudia’s face!!! Go Ana!! So long story short, Ana calls Miguel for help. He agrees to help her and to dedicate all of his resources (which are many) to locating Hector.

At the Garza headquarters, Flaco, Jorge and Kenia get tasked with finding Hector, using their special skills. The cell number doesn’t get a hit, so they have to search for him with the city cameras.

These scenes with Epig were hard to watch. So to summarize, Epig tell Hector to shoot himself. He puts one bullet in the gun and wants him to play Russian Roulette. He tells him that if he shoots twice and doesn’t kill himself, he will let him go. Of course Hector doesn’t want to do it, but he does because Epig has another gun to his head.

The next scene is yesterday’s scene in reverse. Tacho and the other piglets are dropping off the other journalists where they picked them up. A little worse for wear. Tacho tells the first guy, “is the message clear?” So…obviously, this was all a warning. We don’t know what the exact message is. Because if Epig tells them not to publish about him, won’t they know he is the culprit? Or is he suggesting that they not publish about Carlos Duarte? Finally, at the end of the route we see that they also drop off Hector. Tacho tells him “this was only a warning, next time the boss isn’t going to let you try your luck. Hector opens his eyes and takes in his surroundings.

At Bernal search headquarters, Miguel and Ana are talking when Hector arrives home. Hector goes nuts at the fact that Miguel is there, and starts screaming at him to leave his house. Ana and Claudia tell him that he was really trying to help, but Hector wasn’t hearing it. He starts in on Miguel, telling him to look at what Miguel’s associates did to him. Miguel tells him they are not his associates. Hector says “well if they aren’t your associates, what are they? Your friends? People who you have business dealing with, Epigmenio, Carlos, whoever, I don’t care. They are the same scum that have this country sunk in misery. That are ruining it. What did you think, that by coming to my house when I was kidnapped that things were going to change?” Then he proceeds to kick him out again. “Get out of here!!!” Ana is upset by Hector’s actions, saying she is sorry over and over again. Miguel leaves without another word. Hector starts to panic about his daughter. He looks like he is having a full on panic attack after everything.

Adela is entering the offices when El Gato shows up telling her that he has the information about Epig’s whereabouts. He asks her for the money she promised. Apparently, it isn’t enough. She starts negotiating with him about getting the money to him tomorrow and getting the info today, but Gato isn’t having it. She wants to argue, telling him she can’t take any more money out of the ATM because she already took out the limit. He flippantly says “well ask Miguel Garza,” but before she can answer she sees Miguel coming in the distance and lets Gato have his way. She plays it off upon entering the building.

When they walk in Jimena and Trejo are waiting. Miguel asks if everything is okay and Trejo says no. Before we get into business speak, let me just say that the look and body language of Jimena when she sees Miguel walk in with Adela are priceless. She looks so bothered, its funny. Back to business. Trejo tells Miguel that they got a notice from the “Procuraduría General de Justicia” which is equivalent to the Attorney General’s office. Miguel asks for what. Jimena tells Miguel that he has a summons, that he needs to present himself there tomorrow. Miguel says “something must have happened. (Side note, he says “algo se nos pasó” which means “ something happened to us.” I love the way Spanish, in many cases uses the ‘se’ which doesn’t place blame, such as ‘se rompió,’ with the reflexive ‘it broke itself.’ Just a funny observation.) Trejo says no, I checked everything and have no idea where they could have found something. Everything is in order. Miguel starts getting upset, “It is evident that everything is NOT in order!” Jimena has to spew some poison by adding to the conversation, “maybe it was about Dellacasa, you know, the interview that Adela gave.” Adela gets a little scared and says “so this is my fault?” But before she can accept the blame Miguel comes out with “ I told you to shut everything down and put up firewalls.” Jimena answers that they did in fact do what he asked. To which he says, “if this has to do with the interview, then the responsibility is still yours.” Completely defending Adela. Trejo tries to talk and Miguel tells him that he wants them to check everything again, and then again, and that he doesn’t want excuses. Adela follows him out, and Jimena can’t believe what just happened.

Ana and Hector have a heart to heart, while she is cleaning his wounds, which she does extremely poorly. But basically they use it as an excuse for Hector to ponder whether he should keep going or leave the country. Ana wants to leave the country.

Adela is at home with Victor and she is bringing him tea, he has an upset stomach it seems, because he says that the pizza isn’t sitting well with him. He comments that the restaurant isn’t exactly known for its food. Adela comments that they must have done something bad in the kitchen, and Victor says “yeah, cook with money, or what is know in financial terms as laundering money.” Adela plays dumb and says that she has no idea and that she knows relatively nothing about Miguels businesses. Victor tells her that he can guarantee that there isn’t anyone kneading dough and yeast in the afternoons. That he could guarantee it. Adela reiterates that she doesn’t know and that she doesn’t even understand his businesses. Victor tells her that maybe she should quit the foundation. He says he can connect her with other foundations. Adela doesn’t like that idea. The question is, is it because she doesn’t want to leave Jin like she says, or because she doesn’t want to leave Miguel. (I opt for Miguel). He tells her it is dangerous, and that he is worried about her future. She brushes off his idea.

Dora and Miguel are talking about the summons and Dora is saying that she doesn’t have any idea what the link is with the Attorney General Edna Gonzales. Not even their people on payroll on the police force. Miguel says she has a reputation for being unyielding. Dora asks what they are going to do and Miguel says that he has hired the best law firm in Mexico. Specialists in Financial Crimes, recommended by his lawyer in Miami. He asks about Chisca, turns out she is hanging out with Ishiro the Japanese bodyguard. Dora says that he is scary. Miguel tells her that that is the point.

They interrupt Chisca’s conversation with Ishiro about tacos and flautas. He tells her that he has a job for her. She immediately wants to know if it is about the new product. He tells her no, that he is looking at hotels and he wants them to go and check them out. Ishiro goes quiet again and won’t say anything when Dora is present.

Hector is at home cuddling the baby when masked armed men come in and shoot him. He wakes up from the nightmare. His wife tries to calm him down. Serious PTSD, and even more so after Chano got his brains blown out right in front of him.

Miguel is meeting with the Attorney General. She tells him thank you for coming, he answers that is wasn’t a choice, it was an order. The AG agrees, that indeed he was there because she had information about his activities. The lawyer tells her that they are completely legal financial activities. She tells them that she isn’t interested in his financial activities. She could care less about financiers until they have dealings with criminals. The lawyer tells her that he has no illegal dealings at all and she asks Miguel if he is going to deny that his business works in the trafficking of illicit substances. He answers “absolutely.” The attorney says that he cannot allow the line of questioning to continue. At this point Miguel kicks out the attorney. Miguel then tells her to tell him exactly what she wants to tell him. Then she plays the recording they took of Dora talking to Zaragoza. As they listen to the audio, Miguel straightens his tie. Now I am not sure exactly what the significance of the tattoo that he seemed to purposely show on his wrist was. It seemed like some kind of threat, and she seemed to take it that way by the look on her face. But I am not 100% sure. He asks if that is all. She asks if he is going to deny his relationship with those organizations. He says that he didn’t hear anything illegal in the conversation, and how did they know that they were talking about him. The conversation isn’t worth anything. He asks her if she has a court order to tap his phones. She says that she can order an in depth investigation into the transport company. She says she could find interesting things, maybe even compromising evidence. He tells her that all she will find is a modern fleet of trucks that are dedicated to legal transport. She tells him that they could be friends, that she could make sure he keeps his liberty in exchange for information over certain relationships he has or may have in the future. He tells her good luck and leaves.

Carlos Duarte is meeting with Epig, apparently Duarte called the meeting because he had asked Epig to not be around for awhile. Duarte heard about the meeting between the AG and Miguel. He says that he can’t take the chance of being investigated. Epig tells him, “yeah, if the Japanese guy talks it will be the end of your political career.” Duarte didn’t like that answer. Duarte gives Epig the red light to take care of Miguel.

Usually, even under the most dire of circumstances Miguel usually doesn’t lose his cool. But when he questions Dora about the phone conversation, the hand clenching tells us how hard he was working to hold onto it. “How did it even occur to you to use the landline to talk to Zaragoza? She explains that her cellular phone was out, that she needed to give Zaragoza a new route and that it was a short conversation. His answer to the problem with the AG is to dismantle el Grupo Salado. It is too risky to have it operating. Dora refuses rotundly. It was the life of his grandfather. He tells her that they don’t need it anymore. The group is the past. What he is doing now is 1000 times bigger. They don’t need to take the risk of transporting “eso” (drugs). She tells him that his grandfather worked in the business his whole life and never had legal problems. She tells him that he must be the one who must be doing things wrong.

Edna (AG) and her investigator Gary are meeting. He asks her impression of Miguel and she tells him that he has the correct answer for everything. She needs more information. He tells her that it is hard to get info on that world unless they get someone to infiltrate the business. Basically a mole. She tells him to do it.

Epig meets with a guy who is going to make a huge bomb for him. They spend the scene talking about how good he is at bomb making and the payment in advance.

Gary and another lady are going over pictures of all of Miguel’s employees. She suggests Adela, to which Gary answers that she doesn’t even have a traffic ticket. They are looking for dirt on someone so they can pull their strings. Trejo, Flaco, Kenia, or Miriam. Gary says that they all have something they could be blackmailed with. She says it will depend on their loyalty. He says they will have to choose. Be faithful or survive.

Back at the office, Adela is remembering the conversation with Gato, when he admitted that he killed Miguel’s parents.

From here on out, we begin to purposely see why each of the crew, Flaco, Trejo, Kenia, or Miriam, might be blackmailed into being a mole for the AG. I will place their name in bold when they are mentioned.

Miriam - She needs money for something. We saw this last episode, Flaco told her to talk to Miguel, because the one thing they had enough of around there was money. Adela wants to know how bad her problem is with money she needed. Adela says she will talk to Miguel if Miriam wants. Miriam says she doesn’t like to mix things. But she doesn’t think she has another out. She will let her know.

Epig is meeting with the bomb maker about how great this bomb is. That it was expensive but worth every penny. He needs to be within 100 meters of the bomb to activate it.

Flaco- Flaco starts getting into it with Jorge and Kenia when he receives a suspicious phone call. A call where asks the caller where he got the number and tells him that no one has his number. Then abruptly calms down and leaves for a meeting. Kenia hits him up about being polite when he was just giving them a hard time. Jorge asks what the meeting was about and he gets mad that he is asking. But then just says that he is meeting an ex business associate that needed to return him some things. We already know that Flaco thinks that things are going to go south for Miguel, because when he offered to talk to Miguel for Miriam, he also told her that she should take advantage while it lasted cause it wouldn’t last long.

Jimena get a call from Miguel, he asks her to go and pick up the sample of Efilina at the laboratory. She asks if that means it is done. He tells her that it is only a sample. She asks when he thought to tell the team. He says that he didn’t want to say anything to anyone yet because it is just a sample. That she needs to start arranging things for Dr. Farchala’s new life.

Trejo- He comes into the office asks how everything went with the AG, she tells him that the lawyers are going to take care of it. From this he gathers that it had nothing to do with the companies, she confirms. He is upset because he had thought for a moment that the summons could have been his fault. Jimena tells him that now he knows that that wasn’t the case. But Trejo doesn’t like that answer, because Miguel didn’t even call him to apologize. That he wasn’t like that in Japan. Jimena tells him to not drown himself in a glass of water, exaggerate. He takes offense to that. He tells her that she was there when he got on them. That he reviewed every registry , every financial movement of every company over and over again, looking for an error and didn’t find anything. She asks him why is he worried. (Here Trejo uses a common Spanish adage, “no preocupes, ocupate” which means don’t worry about it, do something about it). So he tells her that he doesn’t worry, he does something, or does his job. He tells her that he doesn’t like the new Miguel and that he is transforming into a different person. She tells him to stop being dramatic. He takes offense to this as well, and tells her to not tell him that he didn’t warn her. He gets up to leave and she asks where he is going, and he tells her, “to think.”

Ana and Hector are arguing over the fact that Ana called Miguel. He tells her that lately all of his problems are because of Miguel. She tells him this situation was different. He asks her if it is ok to call thugs whenever they have a problem. He tells her that the plan was that she get to safety if something happened to him. She tells him that she was desperate and then tells him that Miguel is his friend, he was very worried about him. Hector answers “is he?” She tells him how Miguel came running and put all of his resources into finding him. Hector tells her that Miguel isn’t anyone to him anymore. Ana asks him if he had the opportunity to save his life, wouldn’t you do it? To which Hector had no answer. Ana tells him…then he is your friend. This leaves Hector thinking.

Gary is meeting with whomever is the mole. They are wearing a hoodie, so we have no idea who it is, but whomever, is being shown the documents that the AG has on them to blackmail them with. He tells them that they don’t have an out. That he isn’t there to threaten but to offer them work. An offer they can’t refuse.

Jimena is meeting with Dr. Farchala about the new place he and his wife will be living. It is a beautiful place with excellent maternity clinics. She picks up the sample, a small pill. It has to be put under the tongue to dissolve.

Back to Gary and the mole, he is happy to be on the same side, it is great to be on the legal side he tells them.

Hector is leaving his house. He doesn’t tell his wife where he is going. She tells him that he needs to rest but he tells her its fine.

Kenia and Flaco walks back into the office after his ‘meeting’ asking for Kenia. Jorge tells him that she had to buy some things so she went out. We already know that Kenia has some secret. That she is in hiding from people she doesn’t want finding her. So her being gone without a solid reason could be considered suspicious. Jorge asks Flaco why he is so bothered with him and Kenia. He tells Jorge that women ruin everything, but then goes on to say that he has been pretty nervous over some personal things. That neither Jorge nor Kenia have anything to do with it. Jorge says that he would like to fix things between the three of them and Flaco says, over beers. Then Jorge asks, wasn’t your ex partner supposed to give you some things?” and the music goes all “da da da dum.”

Miriam - Adela walks into the office and Miriam is sending a delivery. Adela asks Miriam “and” Miriam, is all “and what.” Adela, says “and what, woman, you have me all nervous, you would think I was the one who needed the money. Should I ask Miguel?” Miriam, answers nerviously, “the money…I got it.” Adela tells Miriam that she needs to tell it to her face, because she doesn’t even have a smile, shouldn’t she be more relieved. Miriam puts on a fake smile. Adela tells her she doesn’t believe her at all. Miriam says, “really Adela, I got help, don’t worry. Thank you for worrying, my family is going to have what they need.” Adela then gives Miriam a bracelet she had bought for her to cheer her up.

Tacho is holding up a delivery guy for some reason. He shoots him in the back of the head after he steals his work shirt and delivery truck.

Ishiro and Chisca arrive at the hotel. They are trying to see the rooms and the hostess is being rude and not responding to any questions, busy looking at her computer screen. Finally, Chisca grabs Ishiro’s hand and pretends they are a couple wanting to rent out the rooms for his family for their upcoming wedding, to get the hostess to show them a room. Thank god Chisca has only been in minimal scenes today. I have had to recap too many of her estupideces.

So we are starting to see why the delivery truck was stolen. Tacho’s friend is now dressed in the uniform, delivering a package to Miguel’s offices. He is holding the package very carefully.

Trejo Jimena is waiting for the elevator in the parking garage and Trejo joins her, she tells him that he took a long time to think. He told her “enough to make better decisions. She asked him if he had thought over everything. He says yes. Jimena notes how well getting some air helped Trejo and that maybe she should try it. Trejo tells her that is one of the advantages of living in Japan. The things you learn there.

The delivery man delivers the package to Miriam at the front desk. He tells her it is for Miguel Garza.

Kenia arrives back from wherever she was, and Miriam asks her about the coffee. Kenia asks “what coffee?” Miriam reminds Kenia that she had asked her to get coffee for the office. Didn’t she go to the store. Kenia is all confused about the question, and then says that yes, she went to the store but forgot the coffee. That she would go back. Miriam tells her no, I will go.

Adela nervously knocks on Miguels window. He tells her to come in. Asks if everything is ok. She tells him that it isn’t about her. She has been thinking a lot about whether to tell him or not, there is a chance that she will upset him if she tells him. He encourages her to tell him whatever it is. She thinks he is going to get mad. Miguels then says “I am not going to get mad if I don’t even know what it’s about, talk to me.” Miriam interrupts their conversation by knocking on the door with the package in hand. Miguel motions for her to wait a minute. Now not to spoil or anything, so I won’t put it in words, but we all know by now what is in the package right? I mean they didn’t try to hide it or anything, so now it is just waiting anxiously to see when it all goes up. Miguel and Adela get back to their conversation. Adela explains how she has gone around and around with the situation and that she thinks that Miguel deserves to know…

Back in the garage, the delivery driver is getting out as Jimena and Trejo wait to enter, he hits Jimena’s shoulder as he exits, making direct eye contact with Jimena, who is bugged by getting bumped.. Jimena and Trejo are in the elevator

Epig and Tacho are in a vehicle outside with the bomb detonator.

Hector enters Miguel’s building as the delivery truck pulls away. Hector is in the lobby on the first floor.

Victor is in the elevator looking at his watch, with a guy we don’t know. Victor is in another elevator.

Adela and Miguel are still in the office talking while Miriam is standing next to the package out in the bullpen. Miguel and Adela are in Miguel’s office.

Kenia, Flaco and Jorge are in the tech area working and Kenia keeps looking at Jorge oddly.

Epig pushed the detonator and everything blows!!! To the point where fire is coming out of the window on the umpteenth floor. It completely blows the area where Miriam was standing and a bunch of other people were working. We see Adela get thrown by the blast!

Alright, my Patio Peeps, that is the end of the episode. The episode that ended Season 1 for Netflix, and yeah for us, we get to see what happened on Monday. But it was great. A couple of things. So I love how they kept all of the possible moles under suspicion throughout the episode. They all had unexplained reasons for being out of the office, being pissed at Miguel, or needing money as reasons to betray Miguel. So the question here is, who is the mole? I think Kenia because they have spent the whole last few weeks beefing up the storyline on her secret. Or Flaco because he seems to think that the whole thing was going to explode (figuratively, not literally) anyways, or Miriam, because she didn’t have reason to be loyal to Miguel, and she needed money in a bad way for something. But we can almost guarantee that now she is dead. Next question: who of the remaining characters are we going to lose? They seemed to have saved most of the main characters. And finally, what was Adela trying to tell Miguel? The first time I thought she was going to spill about Miriam. But upon closer observation, I think she was going to tell him about what Victor said.

In bold in the last few scenes, I marked where everyone was at the time of the bomb going off. So we can see that only those in the office are in serious danger, though the others may be stuck in elevators unable to help. This reminds me of a Grey’s Anatomy disaster episode. Anyone else?

That is all for tonight. Hope you enjoy the recap, the episode, which I liked except the Hector getting tortured parts. Have a great weekend and we will see you all next Friday night!

Esther: I see that Adela is figuring out who was involved in the death of Miguel's parents.

Mabe Steve, but I don’t think she is ready to divulge that info until she has it all clear. Although she may get Miguel’s mad side for that.

Por supesto; that is a square on the Bingo card.

Great work.

I will post more later when I'm back to my co.puter. poeting from my phone is not fun.

Now you see why!

Lol! Yeah!

Esther--This was absolutely fabulous. Are you sure you don't also write for True Crime magazines or scripts for 48 Hours or Dateline or all the CSI's? I loved the way you separated all the possible people who could have something in their background to be blackmailed for. I absolutely loved where you put everyone at the time of the blast. A whale of a thank you.

Here are my questions and musings:
1. Why did Miguel send Ishiro and Chisca off site to view a hotel? That's all they were charged with. If Miggy wanted to buy it, he could have put Flaco, Kenia or Jorge to the task of getting financial background information.

2. The "mole" had a hoodie on. That made me suspect Flaco right away, but then he left the office without one and returned without one. That doesn't really mean anything, because the eventual mole could have left it in a car downstairs. We can't let Jimena or Trejo off the hook just yet. None of the "suspects" verbally admitted to us to anything that might lead to working with the feds EXCEPT Miriam. Now I understand why she remained a marginal character that constantly interacted with Adela and Chisca. Miriam is also the only one who told Adela her "problem" was solved....MONEY from the feds? As you said, Esther, the explosion took care of her. Surely she couldn't have survived the blast. She put the package down and stood quite close to it. The other clients? staff? in the lounge area are goners, but who cares.

3. I think Adela was going to ask Miguel for money for El Gato. If she wishes to hide the real reason for asking for the money, she has to make it up--some personal reason, because it can't be for the foundation--too easily traced. If she wishes to share what El Gato wants the money for, she will have to go against Dora's wishes for Miguel never to know about El Gato's role. The explosion took care of that for now. My guess is that Adela will be severely injured physically or from the compression and can't remember what happened to her just before the blast.

4. Now we know for sure Victor is not squeaky clean. Kirby woke me up to the fact that you seldom find double swinging doors and portholes in bathrooms. He deliberately followed Trejo and Ishiro. But why?

This just gets juicier and brings out the amateur detective in my. Thanks again, Esther for a Saturday treat at your hands.

Oh, in No. 3, the last thing El Gato told her, when she said she couldn't take any more money out of her account, was to ask Miggy for it. We know she told him no more personal interactions, it's just business from now on. I think that's why she was hesitating so.

Esther, terrific recap -- what a blast. You not only laid out all the action, but gave us Spanish vocab too. Muchas gracias.

I loved Ana telling off Claudia too. ITA Ana did a lousy job cleaning Hector's wounds. I kept wondering "if you have no more than that itty-bitty tissue, why don't you buy some medical supplies?" But seeing them close and discussing what to do about the danger, I felt for them as a couple.

Interesting that Vic let Adela know he realizes Mig is laundering money. I think Vic was genuinely trying to look out for her by suggesting she leave the foundation. It doesn't seem to occur to Adela that she could face prison time for being a front for money laundering, even if she does some good sheltering battered women.

Of all the folks with motive for being the mole, I'd bank on the fact that it is not Flaco. He hates being under the thumb of authority. I don't think it's Trejo either; he's too smart and knows Mig can outsmart the IRS. It could be Kenia though; she's silly enough not to tell Mig her issue, even though she's seen firsthand how capable he is.

I never noticed Miriam until the pizza party, so it seems like they introduced her just to knock her off by the bomb.

The blast in the center floor of the tall building was upsetting. Anybody could get hurt, even those not close to the bomb, based on how the infrastructure collapses. So glad we get to see what happens on Monday.

Anita, I like your thoughts on that, I hadn’t even thought of her telling him about Gato either. Looks like for now, Adela has a lot of things she was keeping from Miguel.

I agree Niecie, I too can’t wait for Monday. And usually I have not been that eager. I would work out perfectly if Mirian was the mole cause then the AG would be back to square one. But again, why am I rooting for the bad guy. These antiheroes play with your head!!

Niecie--Miriam and her bouncy pony tail was at the Pizza Party, just not that noticeable. She has been features several times behind the reception desk, or walking on the floor, talking to pretty much just Adela. She had a run in with Chisca, but who hasn't. I can't remember her talking to Jimena for anything other than business (like get this mailed or messengered over, make copies, etc..)

The blast reminded me of that other blast in a tall building. Ladders couldn't reach that high, and neither could hoses. The people above and below will be just as much victims as those on Mig's floor. EPig had better get a couple of Karmageddons for what he asked for. Wasn't it good enough for him to just plant a bomb in Miggy's car--the traditional way to take out a rival? Cut off the head (figuratively) and the body probably couldn't survive.

Esther--Yep, the AG would have to start over again. I wonder if anyone else will be seriously injured from Mig's offices.

Has anyone ever seen a novela where the bad guy gets knocked off before the end?

I'm hoping Valentin does. Epi is just your normal antigonist.

Chisca is really, really stupid not to realize that she's digging her own grave and financial future just because of a romance with a guy who raped her.

Thanks Esther. Hey all, one interesting head scratcher for me was Victor's more than lukewarm suggestion to Adela to get out of the foundation and all things Garza.

Either has studied Adela quite thoroughly and was sure she would never take his sincere (not)luuuurving advice, thus eliminating his own personal mole, or he is truly concerned for her safety and wants her out of there.

If we all are wrong about him, it makes sense that he wants his prize GF far away from such things.

OR if he is a plant / industrial spy, that was a bit of a gamble, in that he feels like he has Ms. Adela figured out pretty well.

If TNs have taught us all one thing only, it is that sleeping with someone has NOTHING to do with actually knowing anything useful about them.

Ana and Aw Heck: Why didn't she just throw him in the shower? Chrimmidy, he is still waterproof, dabbing at his wounds with Q-Tips while the blood dries on him is like bringing a brush and quart of Glidden to Mig's office after the bomb.

Kirby--If Vic is a plant on the side of the law AND he's fallen in love with Adela, it stands to reason he wants her out of harm's way when the shizt hits the fan.

Kirby--Ana and Aw Heck. My thoughts at the time were exactly that. But maybe he was too traumatized by the shower ePig gave him (or was it Tacho--they are equally repulsive). Still, I'm amazed by the number of wounds treated in tns with cotton balls and alcohol.

Kirby, I vote Vic cares about Adela even though he's using her to get to Mig. But yeah how could he spy on Mig if she quit? Dunno, but I don't think he's a professional at what he's trying to do.

Wouldn't it be funny if Chisca falls for Ishiro?? Nah, he's too good for her.

Victoria, (Chiscass and Lurch) We all wish, not that we really have anything against Ishiro, but Not Val(id) seems to have Chiscass in a Stepford Wives hypnotic trance or something. Christ, she looks to have given up sometghing she likes almost as much as sex to stay clear headed to effectively spy on her own brother for Valentine.

Kirby: Chisca will end up either in mental institution or 6 FT under.

Steve I'm thinking a hooker. If she and others manage to destroy her cash cow brother's empire and no more money, and since she knows how to do NOTHING else productive....it's a win / win all the way around.

Chiscass can continue to do drugs and rewrite the 'mink' book, the two things she likes the most, and she will survive, as a sort, in spite of herself.

She might be reminded, though, from what we have seen in TNs, Mexican hookers set the standard in quality, so she may need to get back in the gym. Remember the hookers in that law TN last year? The one with Ana Brenda Contreras and J Gill? Those girls were hotter than the hot lawyer girls.

Esther, another big WOW for you. Excellent recap and I too really appreciated you emphasizing where everyone was during the explosion and delineating the reasons why Gary chose the people as possible infiltrators.

Anita, I'm with you on how all this intrigue is bringing out the amatuer detective. I too suspected Flaco right away and the first thing that I went back to look at was his jacket. He did take a jacket but it was a pleather one (which does not have a hood). BUT I went further back to the previous episode. When they were telling Mig about going to celebrate Flaco's birthday, Flaco was standing and holding what looks to be TWO jackets--the pleather one and a hoodie. The other reason why I would suspect Flaco is because of how he has been complaining about working with the Garzas. We all know that it's because Kenia is seeing Jorge 9and because he can't stand Chisca, but the way he talked about the whole family to Miriam seemed like he was more than ready to jump ship. Of course, I could be totally wrong (ACK!) LOL

Esther, the Spanish language, as all other languages, has it's quirks, double meanings and one little word can change the whole meaning of a phrase and confuse things. When Mig told Jim and Trejo, "Algo se nos pasó," he was telling them that something got passed them or, rather, that something got passed the firewalls. I don't understand why Mig was holding them responsible for the information Edna obtained when Flaco and Kenia are the tech experts. But, oh well, I enjoyed seeing Jim squirm :-)

Kirby, I too vote that Vic is starting to care about Adela, but maybe he is trying to get Adela out of all things Garza simply because he is jealous. Since he is already starting to somewhat converse with others near Mig, maybe he'll target one of the others as a mole.

Like Anita, I thought Adela was actually going to tell Mig about El Gato.

RGV- thanks for that translation, because I didn’t even think of referring me to the past tense of pasó, as something got passed us, in that way. You are right, that makes much more sense. I was using the word pasar as happened instead of the literal cognate pass.

Good Morning everyone.

I KNEW I recognized Sofia Castro (daughter of former Mexican First Lady Angelica Rivera) on this Telenovela.

Steve ! Have you been asleep? :-)
Actually I didn't recognize her at first either as a Goth chick. We last saw her in Vino el Amor with Jimena and before that in Hotel.

Hard to believe from seeing her here that she is only 23 or so years old.

Well, I am finally caught up on the show. Thank you to Esther for Friday's all this week's recappers and a big thank you to Kirby to filling in for me on Tuesday. I appreciate the recaps so much because as I was behind on the shows, it filled in for me what I sometimes fast forward through accidentally.

Anyway, is this the end of season 1? I suppose season 2 starts tonight. What a cliffhanger. I can't figure out who is betraying Miguel, but I do not think it is Flaco. It can't be anyone who is actually there in the office, because whoever it is, would have hightailed it out of there. Poor Miriam, she was left holding the package and she sure did not deserve that.

Cynthia--"Poor Miriam, she was left holding the package and she sure did not deserve that." That is, unless she was the mole. We saw that within two episodes she went from needing money to not needing money. In between we saw Gary interviewing the mole. BUT--We don't really know anything for sure, do we?

But the bomb is Epi's doing. Not the Federal Prosecutor lady lawyer, right???

IMO Flaco and Kenia are too crucial to the plot this early in the show, so I don't think it's either of them. Rather Miriam, but then I can't understand why the Federal Prosecutor would use someone so low on the totem pole. And Trejo was with Miguel in Japón, I think. Then again, I can't see Miriam showing up for a meeting with the FP in a hoodie.

So personally, I'm back to square one. The writers are just jerking us around as usual.

Right, Victoria. As I reread what I wrote, I see where it might have been interpreted as the Feds planting the bomb. I meant that she didn't deserve to be blown up by ePig, but if she's the mole, then she'd be betraying Miggy. Also, if she is, the Feds will have to start over with a new mole.
