Cuna de Lobos Capítulo 10 Fri. 11/1/19 Catalina and the Law of Unintended Consequences--OR--An Heir and a Spare

Over drinks with Francisco, Catalina expresses her concern over the phone calls she has been receiving but insists she is not worried.  Francisco thinks it is just someone who wants to frighten her.  Putting him on the spot, she asks what he would he be willing to do for her. He asks what does she have in mind.

Back at Francisco's, Ambar is lingering in her bedroom as Dora tries to get her to leave because she knows that Francisco is on his way home. Ambar wants some of her clothes. Dora asks her not to take any because she doesn't want Francisco to think she is a thief. Ambar doesn't think he would ever notice as he cares nothing about her. Dora disagrees and urges her to leave. As Ambar barely moves, she and Dora hear Francisco arriving with Catalina.  Out in the hall, Catalina wants to have sex but Francisco tries to get out of it saying it is just too soon (after Ambar disappearing). Catalina won't take "no" for an answer and soon she and Francisco are all over each other.  Dora and Ambar have managed to sneak into the kitchen on the way out.  Ambar grabs a knife as Dora tries to stop her.  Catalina hears a noise from the kitchen. Francisco becomes curious and goes into  the kitchen.  He sees Dora with the knife in her hand. She excuses herself saying she dropped it as she was putting it away. She looks and sounds nervous as she explains that she was just doing some ironing. Francisco reminds her how late it is.  She was just going . . . He gives her a half smile as she leaves but looks concerned.  He tells Catalina that he is sure that Dora saw them. Catalina doesn't care what the servant thinks and they are back at it. Dora and Ambar are still in the house. Ambar starts to wail after seeing Francisco with Catalina. Dora covers her mouth to keep her quiet and leads her out of the house.

Luis is working with Pedro who is researching a possible connection between illegal imports from Sierra Leone and Catalina Creel.  Pedro doesn't see that as an easy task as the money will end up having been subdivided many times.  Luis is sure that they can track the money. He will not asks for assistance from anyone else because there is nobody  that he can trust. Any police officer who has gotten involved with these gangsters has ended up dead.  Well, Pedro doesn't want to end up dead either. He asks if Luis has heard from Leonora.  Luis has tried but she doesn't want to hear what he has to say.  She thinks Catalina Creel is some awesome woman and now she is part of the family.  Pedro is disappointed thinking that Leonora  maybe could have worked for them on the inside. Luis wants Leonora left out of this. The less she knows the better.  It is for her safety.

Leonora tries to get her new husband to spend some time with her but Alejandro explains that he is waiting for a phone call.  She asks if he is okay and he lies saying he is just overwhelmed by a new campaign at work.  Leonora wants to help. He tells her to go to bed and he will be in shortly.  Alejandro is left alone on the balcony trying to make contact with Miguel who is not answering.

Back at Francisco's post sex, Francisco wakes up and tells Catalina that somebody rang the door bell.
He goes downstairs asking if Dora is there. There is no answer but he then sees José Carlos has arrive wishing his brother a good morning and telling him that Dora let  him in.  He has broughtAlejandro a hot green tea. He just couldn't wait to see him at the office because he was going through some  documents that just make no sense. Alejandro looks around nervously. Catalina manages to see that José Carlos is there hidden at the top of the stairs as Alejandro asks if they cannot take care of this at the office. José Carlos registers Alejandro's reaction and decides that Alejandro is not alone. José Carlos looks up at the stairs and moves towards them as Alejandro tries to capture his attention by asking him to point out what he did not understand in the documents that he brought. José Carlos tells him that the numbers don't make any sense.

Alejandro suggests that he and  Leonora plan that trip to Paris that she wants when they get back to Mexico City.  She loves him. She asks if he solved his problems that kept him up most of the night before. He says it isn't that easy. He is going to have to go back to Mexico City.  An unhappy Leonora  confronts him about how different he has been ever since he returned from Buenos Aires or maybe it has been since she told him she was pregnant.  He insists the pregnancy is not the reason.  She makes a point of telling him she didn't plan on the pregnancy. It was a surprise for her, too. He reiterates it is all about stress from the job.  She reminds him they are married now. If he  goes back, she insists that she is going with him.

Alejandro tries to smooth things over with José Carlos saying he is happy he wants to be involved in the business but he has been away from it for a long time so he has to understand some things.  José Carlos thinks  he has really made an effort to change and would find it amazing if others did the same. He starts to leave with his documents in hand wishing that someone would just trust him. Alejandro apologizes and assures him he will go over the numbers. Alejandro asks how José Carlos's therapy is going.  José Carlos admits that it went badly because he was dealing with previously blocked memories from Catalina's accident that cost her her eye.  So, he dropped out again.  Catalina listens from the landing. José Carlos  relived those events from hearing Alejandro crying to going to go look for Catalina. Francisco gets nervous. José Carlos recounts opening the door to the bedroom and seeing Catalina. Back then he didn't understand what she was doing but knew it was something bad.  She was with somebody who wasn't his father just like Francisco is with somebody who is not his aunt. He quietly adds that Alejandro isn't obligated to explain anything to him. Who is he to judge him anyway? Alejandro just asks for his silence on the issue. José Carlos assures him he won't be saying anything and will keep engaged only in the company business. Catalina has heard it all.

Diego is with his laptop monitoring arrivals at the airport. He calls Catalina to tell her the shipment was a success and the diamonds had arrived.  As she is still with Francisco, she tells him to stop by the vault to check the shipment as she stops by her house. She also wants him to stop José Carlos from nosing around the books.  Francisco reminds her that he has the authorization to see the books. She is worried about what he may find and Francisco is worried that he is going to remember more than the man she was with wasn't Carlos. Catalina sees no danger in that. He has never gone beyond that point in therapy and Gélica has done a good job periodically "reminding" him what happened after that moment.  Francisco is not so sure he will not remember it all some day. Catalina is not afraid because she was the victim. She lost her eye because of José Carlos.   She even forgave him in spite of the way he treated her. She reminds Francisco that his nephew José Carlos is ill. He is an addict who cannot be believed. Nobody would waste any time listening to what he had to say.  She leaves a clearly disturbed Francisco behind.

When Catalina gets home, she is surprised to see that Leonora is back. She says that Alejandro came back because of the problem at work with launching the campaign. Didn't Catalina know?  Catalina lies and says she's right but she told Alejandro he didn't have to come back so soon. His uncle and se could have taken care of the problem. Catalina is more interested in how Leonora is feeling as a newly wed and recounts the joy in her own days as a newly wed. A somber  Leonora is feeling that Alejandro only married her because she was pregnant. Leonora says that she did tell him that. Catalina assures her that he is just afraid and that all men are the same in needing more time to get used to the idea. . . .  Leonora cuts her off and asks if she knows what happened to Alejandro in Buenos Aires.

Alejandro has been calling Miguel's workplace asking the secretary to have him call her when he can.  He tries to face time Miguel but nothing is happening there either.

Catalina lulls Leonora into a false sense of security talking about symptoms that go along with pregnancy like crying for nothing, etc. She describes pregnancy as an "explosion of hormones". Leonora finds it all very scary. Catalina explains that her body is confused trying to get used to accommodating the new life it has within. Catalina wants her to learn to enjoy it. Catalina promises her that everything will be just fine and gives her a hug. The two women look at photos of the wedding on Catalina's table. Leonora brings up how upset Miguel was at the wedding and seemed to have been arguing with Alejandro and even wanted to tell her something. Catalina tells her that Miguel has some serious mental health issues . . . José Carlos arrives on the scene and welcomes his sister in law to her new home. He asks where Alejandro is. Leonora says he is taking a shower. José Carlos wants to know why Leonora isn't joining him in the shower. Catalina tells him not to be vulgar. As he goes on about the passionate first days of marriage, Catalina remarks she doesn't understand why José Carlos ever left therapy and goes to leave. Before she does, she tells him that Francisco was the one who told her he had quit therapy and that  he has been  nosing around the Gothier accounts. What is he looking for?  They had been  doing just fine without him there. He asks what Leonor thinks.  She thinks he calls attention to himself far too much and never allows anyone o help him.  He notices she looks sad and adds that she probably had a fight with Alejandro. Leonor gets more upset and starts to leave  stating she doesn't know why he finds it necessary to interject himself in her life. He apologizes. She wonders if his pattern of saying whatever he feels like and then apologizing will ever change. He hopes so; she does, too and leaves.

José Carlos gets a call from Vicky. She needs to see him in person. It is important. He tries to give her the brush off and says he will call  her later. He reminds her he is trying to stay sober. She assures him it has nothing to do with that. He tells her he is in a rush and will call her back later.

Ambar sits on a bed at her new place and tortures herself remembering  Catalina and Fernando going to  it in the hallway of her old house. She saw them from the kitchen. She cries, wails and gets her gun out of the nightstand.

Diego has presented Catalina with a sample of the latest diamond shipment. The rest are getting polished. She would have loved to have examined all of them herself.  Diego says Francisco was there at the vault to record the carats of the shipment. Catalina reminds him they have an unsolved matter. He knows she is talking about the reporter Luis and has taken care of that issue.  It will be wrapped up  today and, no, it will not be a warning.  At the same time, a man has found Luis's motorcycle and cuts the brake lines.

Alejandro comes to see Catalina, in her office,  who tells him that she and Leonora are both worried about him.  Sarcastically, he does not see what could be the problem since her plan seems to be working out point by point. He is married and going to have a child. What else does she need? She accuses him of not doing his part in making his marriage work. His attitude is making Leonora suspicious. If she were to find out he had been in Chile with Miguel, it would all be over.  Alejandro doesn't think that would necessarily be a bad idea.

After leaving, Alejandro literally bumps into a man who has been looking for him to sign some papers. He signs them all. The man is a new hire who just stares at Alejandro.  He never thought he would meet Alejandro quite in this way.  Alejandro says he is pleased to meet the man who responds that he is pleased to be at Alejandro's service for whatever . . . He stares at Alejandro as he walks away.

Ambar calls Catalina again from outside of the Gothier offices and says nothing. She looks up at Catalina's office as Catalina asks who she is and tells her to answer her. Catalina says that sooner or later she will find out who the person is that is calling and the person must  know what will happen to them  then. Amar drops her phone into the bushes and walks on.

Francisco comes to see Catalina talking about the new diamonds and the carat count after polishing.
Catalina is upset because some silent somebody called her again but this time on her private direct line.  Who has her number? Francisco, Diego, Alejandro,  José Carlos and Ambar . . . .  Catalina cannot it believe it would be Ambar. Francisco is not so sure. She would love to mess up Catalina's life.

Alejandro appears at Leonora's workplace with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a warning to never discuss their private life with his mother again.  She has a word or two for him, too. This is the last time he will be coming to her workplace to complain and criticize her for something she has done. He wants his mother outside of their relationship. She says the only thing she said to his mother she already  said to him. He has become a different person since he got back from Buenos Aires.  He tries to assure her that nothing happened and that everything is going to be fine. He kisses her and tells her he loves her. Leonora looks angry and confused. He leaves. Luis watches from the background.

Vicky has gotten tired of waiting for José Carlos to call so she goes to the Gothier offices. Catalina says not to go looking for him. She asks security to remove her. Vicky gets her attention when she tells her she is pregnant. Now that is a different story!

At work, the boss has assigned Luis to go to  an interview but they need  a photographer. Leonora wants to go. The boss says she was hired to cover all of the social sections not what Luis is covering.  Luis says she is interested in doing other kinds of work so he should give her the opportunity. The boss reminds him she is married now so he can stop being her knight in shining armor. Luis says she is his friend. The boss sees Luis as obsessed with her but finally allows her to go with Luis.

Vicky and Catalina have a heart to heart talk. Vicky needs to talk to José Carlos.  Catalina asks, as nicely as she can, how Vicky can be sure that  José Carlos is the father.  Vicky insists she only had been with José Carlos. He is the only "friend with benefits" she has. Catalina smiles as she tells her how happy José Carlos is going to be about this. Catalina suggests they surprise him.

Luis and Leonora are suited up and have their helmets on as they go to the assignment. She thanks him for taking her.

Catalina asks Vicky if she used birth control. Yes, she did but  sometimes it fails. Catalina agrees and reestablishes that Vicky and José Carlos are friends with benefits. Vicky has no close family. Her mom lives in the USA. Vicky thinks she is a little less than eight weeks pregnant.  Catalina will help her prepare this very special surprise for José Carlos who is like a son to her. She gives Vicky a "very special"necklace as a gift from her. She is part of the family now.

Luis discovers that he has no brakes and ends up in a crash. He and Leonora are thrown from the bike. Leonora ends up unconscious on the pavement. Luis is left rolling on the ground in pain.

In an office, Alejandro is talking to the new hire. They are standing a little too close. Alejandro asks the new hire why he is working there. How did he get the job? Did somebody recommend him?  The new hire says he filled out an application like everyone else but he did cheat. Alejandro doesn't like cheats and he could fire him . . . The new hire takes a step in to get even closer to Alejandro when Alejandro's cellphone starts rngnig. Alejandro doesn't answer it. The new hire steps in even closer and touches Alejandro's hand and asks if he wants him to leave. Just as he goes in for a kiss, Alejandro walks away and closes the one door that is still open. The new hire smiles.

José Carlos comes running up to the offices to spread the news that Leonor was in an accident and was in very serious condition. He meets Francisco along the way. He pounds on Alejandro's office door. Alejandro and the new hire have to stop making out and Alejandro covers the new hire's mouth so he doesn't say anything.   José Carlos complains that Alejandro hasn't answered his phone either. Now Francisco is banging on Alejandro's office door. Francisco calls Catalina. José Carlos gos to the hospital.

Catalina has put Vicky up in a hotel until she decides it is time to surprise José Carlos. Vicky is not  to say anything about anything to him if he calls her. Catalina gets the call about Leonora.

Catalina hurries to the hospital where she meets Francisco. She is concerned about the baby. Leonora is unconscious and they know nothing about the baby.  José Carlos leaves Alejandro a message on his phone. It is urgent.  Francisco tells her that Leonora was on a motorcycle with her reporter friend when his brakes went out. Catalina's eyes widen with the shock and her knowledge of the situation. Francisco asks if she is all right.  She tells him to call Oscar(family doctor) so he can come and take care of Leonora.

At the hospital, Luis calls his ex to tell he he is fine. He can have Pedro send her a photo to make her feel better.  Pedro asks about the brakes going out.  Luis says  the motorcycle was in perfect condition.  He says his bike was tampered with.  Pedro asks who might have been responsible when José Carlos comes barging  in  demanding to know what Luis was thinking taking a pregnant Leonora on his motorcycle. Pedro intervenes saying Luis was not responsible for anything. Luis says it was an accident. José Carlos insists it was carelessness on his part and he is holding him responsible.  Catalina stops by next to asks how Luis is doing but also to remind him that Leonora is still unconscious. and to suggest they both pray that she comes out of it.  Finally Alejandro gets through to Alex. Catalina wants him at the hospital right away. Catalina continues to stare at Luis and then finally leaves.  Luis asks Pedro if there are any doubts.

José Carlos visits Leonora. He tries to calm her down. All she cares about is her baby.

Luis gets an "anonymous" phone call.  "She" has proof that Catalina Creel is a murderer.

Alejandro finally gets to the hospital where he faces an angry José Carlos wondering where he as anyway all this time. Catalina and family bring him up to date.

After an ultrasound,  the Oscar declares that Leonora and the baby are out of danger.  Finall, Alejandro goes to see his wife.

Catalina excuses herself to take care of something important that won' t wait.

Catalina pays a visit to Vicky.  She explains that her daughter in law had an accident . It was such a terrible day that she never had a chance to talk to José Carlos. She just wants to ask her for a little time. She brings Vicky a gift, too.Vicky is joyful and  grateful. Catalina  asks Vicky if she has been taking folic acid. It is good for the baby. She hands Vicky a pill with a glass of water. Vicky happily akes the pill.

Great recap despite the early mixup between Francisco and Alejandro, Jarifa! I trust you had a wonderful time doing whatever you were doing last night! Alejandro is being a very bad sport with his ignoring Leonora and cheating on both her and Miguel with that new guy. Catalina is right in this case. If he made a bargain he should really stick to it. I'm not sure he deserves to survive to the end of this novela--at the very least he should suffer for mistreating both Leonora and Miguel. Safe bet that that's an abortion pill and not folic acid that Catalina gave to Vicky. I had kind of thought that Vicky would be victim #5, but maybe not, maybe her unborn child instead.

SpanProf, thanks for the heads up on Alejandro/Francisco.

Thank you, Jarifa--this is the first time I could do it En Vivo. The scenes of the action and all the arrivals and departures of the characters kept shifting so quickly that your recap was invaluable.

The minute Vicky showed up, it was obvious her baby was in danger. How absolutely cold of Catalina to wait until learning Leonor's baby was ok before she "offered" Vicky the folic acid. Vicky was dumb to take anything not prescribed by her doctor, or if she didn't have one, to get OTC pills from a pharmacy. Catalina has a way of coming across as so sweet and sincere, I might have succumbed myself. Aaack.

Poor Jose Carlos. He just can't get two steps ahead when he gets set back three steps. This way he will never catch up with Ale, Cat and Frankie--or Diego. In this case he doesn't even know he has/had a chamaco on the way.

The minute Leonor got on the motorcycle, it was obvious her baby was in danger. Boy is Diego going to get a good scolding. Cat can't get rid of him, though. He's the one doing the getting rid of..for her. Where would she get such a loyal replacement?

New Boy sure made headway fast with Ale. Ale didn't have time to get his gaydar up before there was a move on NB's part. It's a bet Cat planted him to take his mind off Miguel.

Anita: Very interesting conjecture about new gay guy. Would he do Catalina's plans more harm or good? Hmmmm.

Jarifa, another award winning title. Creativity weaves its way throughout every word and nuance of your recaps. This was vivid and totally engrossing.

I have high anxiety over many of our characters’ futures.

I was on the edge of my seat fearing Ambar would give herself away. A sigh of relief that Dora acted so quickly. Ambar continuing to stalk her prey, silently and stealthily would have Catalina stepping more toward the edge, having no control over being hunted without words. I’m afraid Ambar is too distraught to let reason override her need for revenge. Sadly she still does not seem to realize it is she who will be ensnared in Shelob’s web, not the other way around.

Others, seem not to be able to keep thing to themselves.

“She was with somebody who wasn't his father just like Francisco is with somebody who is not his aunt”. José Carlos spoke from his head, unaware there was a sequestered audience. Yet one more reason for Catalina to rid herself of her loathed step son.

“She reminds him they are married now. If he goes back, she insists that she is going with him”. I’m sure Leonora is indeed wondering if Alejandro married her simply as she is pregnant, especially in view of how he is treating her. I suspect that attaching herself to him like Velcro is no remedy, especially not in this case. Her quizzing Catalina is not the best course of action. She is becoming frazzled and needs to take a breath and reign in her emotions. Demanding attitude and questioning his every move will make her relationship with her husband deteriorate at demonic speed. She accuses José Carlos of speaking and then apologizing but she is not that different.

SpanProf, I cannot believe how selfish Alejandro is being. He wants Miguel but lacks the courage to do what is necessary. He continues to hurt both Miguel and Leonora as you noted, yet thinks nothing of hooking up with someone he hasn’t exchanged a dozen words with.

Wise Anita, I believe you’ve deduced why this young man shown up. Yes, surely this was set up by Cat.

And Vicky – poor, poor woman. (Where have we seen this actress before??). And to be honest, José Carlos certainly avoided her, didn’t he? So many wrapped up in themselves.

I'm glad Leonora's baby is fine. Everything and everyone else seems on the edge of the precipice. I'm just wondering who will fall first.

Jarifa, I hope you had fun last night! This was just amazing as always. Thank you!

Diana

Span Prof, I was hoping for something better for poor Vicky but I fear you are right. A folic acid reference would seem benign enough and unfortunately Vicky seems naïve. José Carlos becoming the heir could never be in Catalina’s plans but again if José Carlos was responsible and actually called Vicky back, she wouldn’t be at the mercy of Catalina and he might be in the heir mix.

Anita, this episode was another one with non-stop action. Anytime I thought I could cut something out, I ended up having to include it. I also think you are right about Catalina setting up Alejandro with the new hire. She knows how weak he is.

Diana, the actress playing Vicky is Michelle Gonzalez. She was in “Papá a toda madre” and “La candidata”. She seems to be at the beginning of her career.

“She accuses José Carlos of speaking and then apologizing but she is not that different” is a perfect description of Leonora.
She annoyed me especially when she told Catalina about her problem with Alejandro. She seems immature for a woman her age. I had NO sympathy for José Carlos in this episode. He doesn’t seem to know who he is or how to act. Maybe Leonora and José Carlos deserve each other..

Everything is getting so much more complicated and Catalina’s got a finger in it all.

Observation: it seems that when Francisco starts making out with Catalina he grabs her by the throat. This was at least the second time he did it. Creepy.

More mañana.

Great work.

Loved seeing Catalina getting a taste of her own medicine. Or should I say poison?

Francisco's grabbing our Lady Cyclops by the throat is no surprise. He must -- consciously or otherwise -- hate what she has done to him.

I have another theory about that new employee: He recognized Alejandro from the gay club and may be setting him up for blackmail.

Thanks Jarifa!

The new guy who is making a move on Alejandro is named Álvaro. I knew right away that he was using his gaydar lol Alejandro apparently had no clue. Alejandro didn’t like how Miguel was flirting/talking with another guy in a previous episode but he is talking to and getting close to this new guy...wow.

Vicky for sure is not safe. I’ll feel bad for her if something happens. Luckily Leonora and her baby are okay though. Catalina didn’t anticipate that she would inadvertently put Leonora in danger with her plot against Luis. She did seem shocked and guilty.

Ambar taking a huge risk by contacting Luis. No doubt the phone call was from her lol

I wonder if the Grandmother will be able to tell if Victor is on the up and up.

I think she coughed blood on her tissue, which is why she hid it under her pillow.

So far Miguel has done two deeds standing up in full view of peeping Toms—with Jimena in a glass enclosed office (do couples really do that while at work during the working day) and in Miami in full view through the Russian girl's door for Howard to see.

I can't wait to see who he picks next!

TF, thanks for the new guy’s name. Yes, Catalina had a BIG surprise but unfortunately it isn’t slowing her down or making her reflect.

Victoria, good comments but they belong on the “El Dragón” section of the blog.

Thanks so much JARIFA. As Anita noted, the action is this moves so fast, your detailed recaps are invaluable. I assume, like everybody else, that Catalina is planning to somehow abort José Carlos' spawn, and then frame him for the deed. She is deadly in intent, but luckily for us, many of her plans are going awry.

I assume Alejandro believes he deserves as much gay sex as he can manage, as a recompense for following Mom's dictates and marrying a woman he doesn't love. I don't think he is a bad person. Just a weak person with a strong sex drive. And who has always been able to have anything and anyone he wants. A dangerous mix indeed.

I can only watch this in the morning. If I watched it at night, I would go to bed very depressed indeed. But it's an excellent show.

JudyB, now I hadn’t thought of Cata framing José Carlos. That would truly be the cherry on top of her heinous deed and totally in keeping with her style.

Jarifa, thank yoh for another great recap.

Catalina is a viper who feels free to eliminate anyone in her orbit who gets in the way of her plans. What exactly are her plans?...$$$$ and power ,I guess . I hope that the good characters survive.

THank you, Jarifa, for yet another one of your outstanding recaps.

And thank you for confirming that it is indeed Michelle Gonzalez as Vicky. I thought it was her, but wasn't sure since the hair makes her look so different. Anywhoo, yup, I agree that her baby (and even she) is in grave danger. I was really surprised that she would just blurt out that she was pregnant to someone she didn't know. Yes, the beanie hat is on :-)

I got the impression that Alejandro knew Álvaro since Alex asked him what he was doing there. Either way, it was quite startling that he would "give in" so quickly. JudyB, "I don't think he is a bad person. Just a weak person with a strong sex drive. And who has always been able to have anything and anyone he wants." ITA, he IS his mama's boy and inherited her sex genes (in every way :-).

That's why I think he knows him from the gay disco. If he tries to blackmail Alejandro and Catalina offs him that should set off Alejandro's hinky meter.

Leonora is frustrating. Just getting on that bike shows her bad judgment.

Vicky is another one that doesn’t think. She could have at least blurted it all out if Jose Carlos was around. I don’t blame Jose Carlos for not wanting to talk to her though, since she was his drug dealer.

Alejandro is a bad person, just not to the level of his mother. He married Leonora and got her pregnant for the sake of getting his inheritance. He ruined her life, essentially. I hope he gets a major anvil: how ironic it would be if it turns out he’s not Carlos Larios’ son and realizes that everything he’s done so far was in vain and gets nothing.

So Gélica does know what happened when Catalina lost her eye, but she’s been telling Jose Carlos a different version for Catalina’s sake.

AnonFri

AnonFri, Alejandro is NOT Carlos's son. He may be Francisco's son, but since Cat keeps saying that she and Francisco have been at it for 20 years, Ale may have been fathered by some other poor devil (Ale is well over 20 years old).

What part did the actress playing Vicky play in Papas ? Was she the young thing married to the older guy ?

Jarifa, thank you for explaining who Michelle is. And yes, Susanlynn, she was married in Papa to Juan, the great actor we just saw in LU.

If Leonora's baby hadn't survived, what was Catalina's plan? Steal the baby and say Ale fathered it? Her devious mind is always several steps ahead of mine.

And good points made by all. Everyone seemed at their worst last night. Childish and immature at best. And those were the "good" characters.

Diana

15 more episodes to go.

Susanlynn, yes, power and $$$ are two strong motivators.

RgvChick, I, too, was surprised that Alejandro was so easily seduced and agree with your assessment that he inherited his mother’s genes for sex. Yikes!

AnonFri, Gélica’s creep factor sure has increased with finding out that she is reinforcing Catalina’s tailored recounting of her “accident” at José Carlos’s hand. I cannot imagine how she has made him suffer and has shaped him by the continual daily reminder of his guilt with just seeing her eye patch and then the “customized” retelling of the event.

Diana, “Everyone seemed at their worst last night.” You can sure say that again,

Steve, you got it. We will be halfway through this week. I love these short ones!

Thank you Jarifa
I am saving too detailed comment until I have read recaps. Did a little binge watching this weekend. I am surprised at the low ratings for this novela. I think it is a load of fun. And I must say, Juancho, we hardly knew you! I had been watching Amorcito Corazon on the Uni site. Have to agree it was fun. Unfortunately it disappeared from the site when I was about 2/3 through

I was glad to read that maybe the shorter novelas will continue I am enjoying them

I don’t look for any happy ending here. I have watched 3 novelas from Giselle and she is pretty consistent with her disdain for happy endings. Just sayin!

Mely

Mely, thanks for stopping by and commenting. This one is proving to be very entertaining no matter the ending. : )

Jarifa, thanks so much for this great recap! I have just caught up with these episodes.

I was saddened to learn that Uni won't be keeping up with these shortened tns and the low ratings of this one. It's quite compelling.

Cat is some kind of killing machine isn't she? Vicky's baby seems doomed and poor Vicky is just too naive.

I agree with you on this. It's likely we're NOT getting a happy ending here.

Karen, thanks for coming by the patio and commenting. “Cat is some kind of killing machine.” Well put. She is quite one dimensional and clearly on one mission: her own.

Televisa is the producer of these novelas, not Univision.

As I said in the discussion specifically about these short novelas, I don't have a problem with the idea of creating new stories that only need 25 episodes. My main issue is with remaking something four times that length into 25 episodes. The crimes in this series are probably coming in too fast for most viewers, especially ones who saw and loved the original.

A Quick Reminder:

Please do not post spoilers here or comparisons between this and the 1986 series. That will be its own discussion at the end. Gracias.

I still think that if Catalina's backstory had been as well explained as Paola's in LU and if there were as sympathetic a character as Montse also in LU (regardless of what happened to her), this tn would have more appeal.

Can anyone recall any similar gay scenes in past Televisa productions? I can't and I'm wondering whether these are breaking ground and therefore this is still a little too shocking for the audience.

Which gay scenes are you referring to?

In Corazon Que Miente we had Cristian and Lisandro; one closeted (Liso) and the other out (Cris)

The first gay couple that I recall was in Amores Verdaderos between Jean Marie, the family chef and Estefano, the son of the antagonist. They had an important side story that ended with them getting married.

In Amar a Muerte we had a key characters in an emerging lesbian relationship brought to a happy conclusion between Juliana and Valentina.

Is this what you mean?

Oh, did you mean post-sex?
I think this is the first, although it was clear Cris and Leo had a physical relationship during the production.

Amar Sin Limites had a gay male couple, but nothing explicit in 2006. Their trajectory was similar to the revelation of a gay teen in Primer Amor in 2000. Barreras de Amor in 2005 had a gay male best friend for its female protagonist but he seemed to have been celibate until the finale. La Fea Mas Bella in 2006 had a gay character whose partner was only in a handful of episodes. None of these had any post-sex scenes.

Can’t forget Ari and Temo the gay teen couple in MMTMF and JECNSE. Plenty of kissing but no explicit post sex scenes or sex scenes even though they ended up living together.

And was it Papa a toda madre that had the gay couple--a police detective and a veterinarian who were upstanding citizens and adoptive parents? Very positive presentation and PSA for gay couples. 2 things that stand out are when the detective finally works up the nerve to tell the desk sergeant and the precinct that he's gay, and the sergeant's reaction is sort of like, "Oh yeah, we had already figured that out. No big deal," and when the couple adopts 2 children from an orphanage. The boy is ashamed that his adoptive father is gay, but then the police detective saves the whole neighborhood from a vicious criminal The boy realizes that his father is a hero and suddenly changes his attitude. I think that kind of presentation does a lot to help society at large to be more accepting.

Oh and how could we forget Pedro and MmmmmmooOsvaldo in La Usurpadora. Didn't we get a couple of kisses in that one?

OT - Thanks for the clarification UA regarding Televisa as the production company. And I completely understand your concerns about too much editing with regard to story telling. Since I hadn't seen either of the originals, these productions have been fun and short. I hope Televisa find new stories to keep in this short format.

Oh my Jarifa...I realize that I never noted your fabulous title--"an heir and a spare" is wonderful! So sorry.

Looking forward to seeing the recap from Monday night.

JudyB, Thanks! glad you got a chuckle out of it.
