Cuna de Lobos, Capítulo 15 Fri. 11/8/19: Time Jump

Diego continues his sexual assault on Catalina at the abandoned warehouse. The scene changes and she is face down,  still clothed, on a mattress with her hands tied behind her back.  Diego lies on top  of her also clothed and tells her how beautiful she  how good she smells.  She tells him he will pay for this. He says it will  be a hard thing to do from a jail cell because he plans to destroy her just as she did him.  Diego calls José Carlos, still in Sierra Leone, to let him know that they have some things in common that they need to talk about. He wants to take some information to the authorities. José Carlos suggests he goes ahead and  talks to the police unless it has to do with his attack on his aunt or diamond trafficking.  Diego informs José Carlos that the diamond trafficking has been going n for years now. José Carlos is well aware of that as well as Diego's contacts.  Diego adds that he should know that his stepmother is the leader of the gang.  José Carlos asks why is Diego telling him all of this.  Diego really doesn't know but tells him to come to a judgment and to take the appropriate action. He hangs up and approaches Catalina with a gun in his hand.  She has two choices, as he sees it, one is to turn herself in to the authorities and the other . . . he makes sure she sees the gun.  As she tells him to kill her calling him a disgusting pig,  he throws her on her back and points the gun at her face. She tells him to shoot her but he can't.  Frustrated with himself, he swears and puts the gun down.

Diego goes out for a smoke and to his surprise a patrol car is arriving  at this hideaway that seems to be out in the woods. He runs in for his gun as Catalina tells him he seems to be running out of luck.  A SWAT team and Catalina's friend the police official enter the premises.  Diego is gone. When the police official gives the order for more police on the scene, Catalina says no and explains why the police need to stay out of this.  She explains that this is a private dispute with Diego and that only he can apprehend and deliver Diego She will make sure he pays personally.  The police official nods in agreement.

Battered and bruised Catalina arrives home thinking about Diego and the sexual assault. She remembers telling him he will wish he never was born because of what he did to her.  She sits on the floor of her shower deep in thought. Gélica gently puts her to bed. When Gélica tries to leave, Catalina grabs her hand and Gélica stays stroking her arm.

Francisco and Alejandro talk to the police official who tells them they don't have much information on who kidnapped Catalina. Leonora also is there.  Francisco and Alejandro want to know who did it. The police official  sees getting Catalina out alive as having accomplished their goal.  There just isn't much evidence to follow up on. Contrary to the fears of Francisco, the police official doesn't see this happening again because he will stop the person who did it. Alejandro will not rest until he knows who did it.

The police official returns to the abandoned warehouse and looks around. He looks in a bag Diego left behind,  finds a passport that he takes and nods knowingly.

Leonora comes up behind Alejandro who is talking on the phone with Miguel about what happened to Catalina coming to Mexico City. She is close enough to hear him say that just hearing the  person on the other end of the line does him good and that they will talk later. Leonora wants to know who he was talking to. He says his uncle who was upset.  It is clear that Leonora is suspicious and Alejandro catches her looking at his phone later as he exits the shower. He is not happy with her sticking her nose in his business.   She asks him again who he was talking to before. He repeats it was his uncle. He calls her bluff and dials Francisco's number. He tells Francisco that Leonor wants to talk to him and hands the phone to her.  Just as Alejandro suspected, an embarrassed Leonora does not have the nerve to ask what she really wants to and ends up asking how Ambar is doing. Leonora ends up apologizing.

It is two days later and Catalina is out and about by herself without bodyguards. Alejandro complains to Gélica. Leonora is also there as José Carlos returns. Alejandro tells him everything is under control.  Yes, José Carlos knew Catalina was already home but he is happy she is well. Alejandro and Gélica leave with him  talking to Catalina on the phone.

Leonora thought that José Carlos was going to stay longer is Las Vegas. He decided to come back when he heard about Catalina. Leonora explains that the kidnapper is still on the loose and that Catalina did not want to file a police report or talk about it. José Carlos thinks that that is strange. Alejandro and Francisco want to hire bodyguards . . . José Carlos correctly guesses that Catalina has refused that offer.  José concludes it is as if nothing ever happened.  He wants Leonora to convince Alejandro to move out of the house and away from it.  When Leonora asks why???,  José Carlos says she just needs to convince Alejandro to do it for her own good. That sets Leonora off. She is so sick of nobody ever telling her the whole story.  Luis does the same thing to her. José Carlos explains that
Luis was doing an investigation into the trafficking of diamonds  and it just might be true.  José Carlos has taken up the investigation but  doesn't have enough evidence to do anything about it yet.  There are a lot of strange things that have been happening. When José Carlos does get enough evidence,  the whole situation is going to explode.  That is why he wants her, the baby and Alejandro out of there.  Leonora is angry that nobody told her that he and Luis were working together.  All José Carlos can tell her is that there is a good chance that Gothier is involved in the  trafficking of diamonds and he wants Leonora to trust him.

Catalina is surprised to see José Carlos back home. He asks how she is and she tells him not to be a hypocrite. He insists he really was worried about her but now that she seems to have recovered and is as charming as ever, he asks what she knows about Diego. Catalina says he is probably fleeing just like the rat that he is. José Carlos talked to him a few days earlier, hadn't spoken to the police about him  and was waiting for the confirmation on some information that he gave him.  Catalina asks if Diego told José Carlos why he kidnapped her.  She tells him herself. Diego went out of his mind when they discovered what he did to Ambar and how he had stolen so much money from them. Diego kidnapped her just to blackmail her.   Looking like he is trying not to smirk, José Carlos asks what he wanted.  Catalina says it was not to press charges against him.  Clearly smirking now, José Carlos asks if Diego ever told her anything about the trafficking of diamonds out of Sierra Leone.
Catalina only says it seems that that imbecile Diego must have opened his mouth. José Carlos is shocked that  Catalina would admit to something like that.  She insists that she is not in charge of a diamond trafficking network.  José Carlos's father was the one in charge of it all. Diego took it over when his father died.  Carlos Larios wasn't the honest and respectable man everyone made him out to be. An angry José Carlos accuses Catalina of being shameless. She says she is being perfectly honest about the situation and her conscience is clear.  She has tried to clean up the company since his father died and Diego was no longer needed.  José Carlos screams in Catalina's face that he will not allow her to ruin his father's reputation. Catalina says with a big smile that Carlos Larios did that all by  himself.  Before he leaves, José Carlos tells her she is garbage incarnate.

The police official is tracking Diego's whereabouts and has been sent some photos of his vehicle. They have determined he is at the northern border of Mexico.  Catalina thinks he must have crossed by now. The police official doesn't think so. He shows her the passport. He has some contacts up at the border that can share some information with them and do whatever she wants.  Catalina only wants Diego back alive and is offering a reward.  One more thing, José Carlos was in contact with Diego and was given some confidential information that could prove to be compromising for her. The official asks what she wants done about it. Catalina says she doesn't want to hear any details. He knows what to do.  The police official smiles, nods and tells her she can count on him. That was the answer she was hoping for. Still smiling, he says he is open to doing whatever she needs and steps closer to her.

An upset Leonora is getting an ultrasound and Alejandro never showed up. She is talking to him on the phone and asking if he saw any of her text messages she sent him. It is too late now.  She will talk to him later.   The baby seems to be  doing well and Leonora is happy.

TIME PASSES/MONTHS PASS

Leonora is back close to full term for another ultrasound. The doctor /technician tells her she only has a few days left. Leonora cannot wait to hold her baby on he arms.  The doctor/technician asks why Alejandro didn't come. Leonora explains he had an important  business meeting.

Alejandro has a different kind of "meeting" going on. he is at the airport to meet Miguel who has arrived back in Mexico.  They are so happy to see each other.

Francisco and José Carlos are with Ambar who continues in a coma. The doctor tells them to let him know, no matter what time of the day or night, if she shows any signs of regaining consciousness.  She has been moved to her own home. Francisco hopes he did the right thing. José Carlos thinks  she will be better off in her own home.

Francisco gets a call from Catalina complaining about him not attending a meeting. He explains he was getting Ambar moved home. It was unexpected. Well, Catalina didn't know about the possibility of  Ambar being moved home at all. She asks if she has regained consciousness.  No, but Francisco says the doctor thought she could be taken care of just as well in her own home. Catalina asks what would happen in an emergency.  Francisco does not want to think about that.  She will have a nurse with her 24/7. Catalina surmises there is still hope then. Francisco would prefer to think so. At least she will be at home when she wakes up.  Catalina says she hopes Ambar recovers . . . Francisco needs Catalina to understand he is going to take care of Ambar as he should and as he should have for a long time already.,  Catalina looks shocked but she says she is there to support him even though she might not agree with him. That is what he wanted to hear.

Alejandro and Miguel talk.  They talk about how it won't be long until the baby is born. Alejandro is very nervous but then he also thinks that he will be free to make their plans come true. They hold hands and Miguel is happy to hear Alejandro talk like that but  . . . Alejandro doesn't want to hear any "buts".  They need some time to catch up. Miguel gets a call from work. Alejandro will get him a cab.  Alejandro invites Miguel to stay at his place if he has no other plans. Miguel smiles.

José Carlos talks to Ambar telling her everything she has done for him. She was the only person who always believed in him; the only one to visit him in jail; and the one who took care of him when his mother died.  Now she is the one who is stuck in a dream world as if it were a jail but he knows she will find her way back to them.  She is the most stubborn woman he has ever known. She would be so surprised to see him now: seven months sober.   Francisco arrives. José Carlos says she has always been like a mother to him. He holds her hand and she squeezes his.  Excitedly, José Carlos asks if she is listening to hm. Francisco says he also feels like she is listening to him sometimes.

Miguel and Alejandro talk about being and living together. Alejandro says he just has to be patient a little while longer.  They are about to accomplish everything  they ever dreamed of.   Goodnatured Miguel says he has no choice but to be patient a while longer  because he wants to be with Alejandro.

José Carlos catches Leonora talking to the baby in her belly. He listens for a moment and leaves. He settles at the bar and looks at the liquor when Alejandro comes in.  immediately, Alejandro tells him he just cannot resist alcohol.  José Carlos gets up and tells his brother he has been sober for months. He doesn't have to go around being a fake like him. Alejandro's whole life is a lie. Alejandro reminds him he hasn't been able to give up drugs yet. José Carlos asks why he can't just leave Leonora in peace already.   He is just waiting around until she has the baby.  Alejandro says not to got sticking his nose in his business like he has said so many times before. José Carlos just wants Alejandro to let Leonora go so that he can take care of her. Alejandro starts to laugh. He thinks that is a good one with  José Carlos not even able to manage his own life. José Carlos says they both know how this is going to end  because Alejandro does not care about Leonora or about the baby. If Alejandro wants to live another life, he should just go and do it.  What good is all of the money in the word if you have to pretend to be something you are not? Alejandro smiles and tells him that he knows now why his dad used to hate José Carlos.  José Carlos insists that  this is just between him and Alejandro. What is he going to do with the baby, Leonora and his life? Alejandro likes José Carlos better when he is drunk because he is too boring when he is sober. José Carlos insists he is telling Alejandro all of this because he loves him. Leonora appears and asks if they were arguing.  No, José Carlos says they were only reaching an agreement on something.  When José Carlos is gone, Alejandro explains that they were discussing a problem that José Carlos had with some women that he owed money to. He was asking Alejandro for some money.

Francisco is not happy that Catalina has showed up to visit Ambar.  he says he asked her to understand and she says that is why she came. She is there to support him. He doesn't get it because she doesn't have to be anywhere near her.  Catalina asks why he thinks Ambar still wants to be with him. He thinks it is because he is her husband. Catalina tells him he is not responsible for Ambar's situation.  Ambar herself  is to blame for the situation she is in now. Francisco is shocked by what he is hearing. Ambar  has manipulated him his whole life and makes him feel guilty. Catalina asks when has she not ever taken responsibility for what she has done and pushed it off on him????  Francisco says never but that is because she is a strong woman and Ambar isn't. Catalina reminds him that Ambar shot her three times and tried to kill her. That is the real Ambar. Francisco explains that Ambar is sick.  Catalina asks whose side is he taking and continues saying she has been Francisco's support during the worst times of his life. Ambar may be ill but that does not give her the right to ruin his life and try to kill her. Francisco looks sickened by this all. He asks her to lower her voice and not to fight because Ambar is right there. Catalina doesn't care and hopes she hears her so she will know how she is making him suffer. She asks Francisco when has she  ever has made him suffer??? She starts to massage his shoulders saying she just wants the best for him. She wants him all for herself. She unbuttons his shirt. They are all over each other.   A noise from Ambar's room stops them.

Francisco and Catalina go into Ambar's room and there is a broken glass on the floor but Ambar appears still to be in her coma.  Catalina asks if Ambar did that. Francisco says he does not know but the doctor did say patients in her condition sometimes have seizures. Francisco tells Catalina to look at the sate she is in. That is why there are "certain things" they cannot do there. Catalina doesn't see a problem because they have done them there before. Francisco ells her to shut up and leaves the room.

Catalina takes advantage of this time alone with Ambar to whisper to her that before she dies she will have the opportunity of seeing Catalina and Francisco so happily together. She swears she will. She leaves Ambar still looking comatose.

At Alejandro's place, Alejandro is telling Miguel about seeing two tickets for them booked on a flight to Ibiza on his cell phone.  Miguel tells him to quit joking but soon sees it is true. They hug.  Miguel is concerned about him and the baby. Supposedly, Alejandro  has cleared the trip with Leonora. Alejandro suggests that they spend the whole day together, just the two of them. They agree to both turn of their cellphones so they are not disturbed.

At the same time, Leonora is going into labor and trying to reach Alejandro who is not receiving calls or messages. Gélica calls Teresa to help assist Leonora.  Nobody can reach Alejandro. Gélica calls for an ambulance. José Carlos comes in to  assist and says they need to call the hospital.

Also, at the same time, Catalina is talking to Alvaro. She has heard that he has been talking about her family. She is no fan of gossip so she has to fire him. He tells her to think twice about that since there is another rumor making its way around. She asks what that would be. People are saying that he and Alejandro were lovers. It could be a problem if that were made public. Catalina chuckles saying it is HE who has no idea with whom he is dealing. HE is the one who needs to think twice because if not, there could be some unpleasant consequences for him. She tells him to get out.  Catalina answers her phone and Gélica tells her that Leonora has gone into labor. She leaves asking where Alejandro is. Francisco goes with her. Alvaro watches from the hallway.

Leonora is at the hospital.

Alejandro and Miguel toast to the future. Miguel thinks that all their days should be just like this one. Alejandro agrees.

Leonora is in the delivery room with José Carlos at her side.

Alejandro finally looks at his phone and takes a call from Alvaro who  asks if he can congratulate Alejandro. He tells him that Leonora is about to make him a father at any moment.

Catalina calls Alejandro from the hospital and tells him  to drop whatever he is doing and get there.

Leonora is suddenly in crisis. Her  blood pressure is dropping and they intubate her . . .

The two next/last Friday recaps will be posted like this one: on Saturday.

More later . . .

Jarifa: Hoping Leonora & the baby are Ok.

Jarifa, your rendition of the riveting action was superb. As one word resonated, I could not wait to get to the next. Smooth as silk. Amazing.

I cannot quite fathom Catalina's allure. She is a striking woman, yet, I'm struggling to see how she has enamored so many, starting with her husband followed by stealing the affection and ardor of her brother in law. Criminals and law enforcement officers, forsaking common decency and all rationale to fall at her feet, doing her bidding. Is it the way she exudes power, fearlessness or both that is the aphrodisiac?

"She remembers telling him he will wish he never was born because of what he did to her". Of that we have no doubt. Even the thought makes me shiver.

"Alejandro invites Miguel to stay at his place if he has no other plans". Dear, deluded boy. Ale still does not realize free will abandoned him. The path his life will take has been dictated and she who must be obeyed is the lone voice who rules.

"Ambar herself is to blame for the situation she is in now". Surely Francisco's eyes are open, yet he is too deeply ensnared to try and extricate himself.

Outside of Diego, it appears José Carlos is in gravest danger. He and Ambar, the two characters who truly care for each other are the ones in desperate need of a miracle.

Leonora appears safe. At least for now...

Jarifa, you are a wonderful storyteller. Thank you, thank you.

Diana

Steve, this still has ten episodes left so somebody better be ok.

Diana, this (as all the episodes) was just so packed with action and with such loaded dialogue. “Retelling it” is the easy part. I, also, wonder what the universal allure of our femme fatale is or maybe that is what makes her a femme fatale. “Surely Francisco’s eyes are open, yet he is too deeply ensnared to try to extricate himself.” Nothing truer than your statement. He is enTHRALLed by her. I will always remember his character because he seems “drugged” by Catalina. The most surprising and “cringy” part for me was Catalina’s blaming Ambar for the condition she was in. It almost sounded like she was jealous of her because even in her coma she had some of Francisco’s attention. That was just twisted as so much of this story.

Great work, Jarifa.

I don't believe for one second that Carlos was involved in the diamond trafficking. I think that Catalina started this when his health began failing and part of her motive for killing him was that was that he may have been getting close to the truth.

As for her femme fatale status, maybe she also practices witchcraft.

If she gets to the hospital before Alejandro does she will have fits on top of fits about JC having been in the delivery room.

More later; still recovering from the opera.

Thanks Jarifa.

It seems like Catalina even has the police under her thumb. That police official was quick to agree to let Catalina handle Diego. He probably won’t be in hiding for long.

I’m disappointed in Alejandro. I know that he can’t change his lifestyle but he’s gonna get caught sooner or later. He still has an obligation to Leonora and their child. Leonora would probably still deserve better even if Alejandro didn’t play for the other team and if Catalina was a doting mother in law.

Alvaro is a sneaky one but he’s still playing with fire.

I agree that Carlos may have had his moments but he certainly wasn’t a criminal.

Ringo starts Monday December 2, at 8p/7c.

Thanks so much for your recap Jarifa. Wow that was quite an episode.

Steve - yes I hope Leonora and her baby are ok. Things didn't look good at the end of the episode.

Diana - ITA about Catalina's allure; what is it? I'm chalking it up to the tn trope of everyone being in love the lead but typically the lead is a good person. And your quote from the recap regarding Ambar further demonstrates Catalina's wickedness and cruelty. I also share your frustration with Francisco; as Jarifa noted, he's under Catalina's spell. I'm hoping that she and Jose Carlos get a miracle and survive this horrible woman.

UA - it does seem that Catalina must be using some type of witchcraft on these men.

TF - I too am disappointed in Alejandro. If Leonora weren't so in love, she may see how he doesn't love her and I'm concerned he doesn't even like her. The nonsense he told Miguel about her being ok with Alex starting a new life is evident of that. Though he may not be a killer, Alex is a bit too much like his mother for my taste. Alvaro is a mess but Catalina's on to him so his days are numbered. And Catalina was lying about Carlos to JC.

AnonFri- Thanks so much for your Thursday recap.

Loved your no-nonsense title Jarifa. Time Jump indeed. Very useful if you're wrapping up a complex story in 25 episodes. It was a dreadfully dark episode, as was the one Thursday night (thank you Anon Friday) and I admire both your abilities to resume the horrible events in an even-handed manner. I found the scenes with Diego and Catalina chilling indeed.

Urban, “maybe she also practices witchcraft” is plausible at this point. I just don’t get what they all see in her.

TF, I, too, think that Alvaro is “playing with Fire” and since he dared to make that call to Alejandro I think that he didn’t get the message and Catalina will have to deal with him. I don’t like the character so that could be entertaining.

Alex, thanks for the info.

Karen, “I’m concerned he doesn’t even like her.” Well put! He is so condescending and dismissive with her.

JudyB, the “no-nonsense title” was all I could think of! For once I had NOTHING to say. In my early recapping days I never did titles. Hmmm . . . Yes, the episodes have been dark but so well done. I was impressed that Univision didn’t cut the sexual assault scenes. Of course they didn’t show much but that made it even more chilling (as you noted) and disgusting.

Only ten episodes left! : )

Jarifa, thank you. The evil keeps swirling. Ugh

I have the feeling that Leonora has pre-eclampsia, which I first heard of when Marta Julia's character in Las Vias del Amor died from it. This next episode is critical but Leonora needs to live.

I am astonished at how uncaring Alejandro seems to be and how Miguel doesn't see this as a red flag about Alejandro's personality. To another point as yet unraised, I don't think that Alejandro knows anything about the diamond trafficking and I think that Catalina has been saving that information for after Leonora has the baby and she dispatches her.

As for the high-level cop who seems to be enabling Catalina, that is Omar Vega of the Federal Police. I want to believe he is leading her into a trap and is biding his time during a search for evidence.

First-rate very detailed recap as usual, Jarifa. You don't miss a thing! How is Diego still alive a few months after the sexual assault, especially since police commander Vega seems to have been ordered to track him down and return him to Catalina to be"dealt with." Deliveries of babies in novelas often seem to be way more dangerous in novelas than in real life; it seems very common that the mother's or the baby's life (or both) is in danger. Sort of the opposite of a psa. :)

Susanlynn, yes, the evil is in full swirl mode but the good has to win out. I hope.

Urban, thanks for the name of the police official.

SpanProf, I, too wonder where Diego is holed up that he has managed to not be apprehended. I have been expecting his return one way or another.

Does anyone know if this is going to have a 2-hour finale on the 22nd or if the last hour is kicked to the following Monday?

As of now, it is only listed for one hour on Friday the 22nd and the schedule for the 25th is not posted yet on Zap2it.

Thank you to all those who served our country, so courageously and with dedication.

Those here with us (I know there are several on Caray, Caray) and those who have departed to the next life(especially our dear Madeline).

We thank you and will remember all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. And those who are still suffering physically and/or emotionally.

God bless.

Diana

Thanks,Diana, for reminding us of the real meaning behind this day. I still miss Madeline whose kindness, writing talent and earworms : ) were a part of this blog for so long.

Diana, yes, thanks to all those who have served . Hub was in the Navy. He proudly wore a baseball cap with the Navy insignia. About a year ago,we were leaving a restaurant as a couple state troopers were entering, and they thanked him for his service. Hub was so proud and touched by that. It is important to say thanks .

Happy Veteran's Day. I served in the USAF & my father & grandfather's each served in the United States Army including many many members of my family who served in the United States Navy, United States Coast Guard, United States Marine Corps, etc.,

Steve, I thank you with your family members for your service.

Land of the free, home of The brave.

Steve, thank you to you and your family.
