Caray, Caray!

Leonora is crying inconsolably in her jail cell. A guard calls out her name and tells her she’s free. Leonora walks one last time through the cell area and finds Luis and Jose Carlos at the end of the gates. She’s holding her clothes and trying to stifle her cry but upon hugging them, thanking them, and asking for forgiveness, she cries. She holds them together that way for a bit.

Leonora is soon outside at the Larios mansión and finds Catalina in the garden. She demands to know where her son is, but Catalina says “My grandson is with his father, as it should be. You can’t get near him.” She adds that Alejandro has full custody because she’s not capable of taking care of Edgar. Leonora claims that no judge will keep her away from her son, and when Catalina tries to hold her back from entering the home, Leonora tells her off. Alejandro walks out with Edgar in his arms and hands him over to Leonora. Catalina asks him what he’s doing, and he responds that he should have done this long ago. He offers Leonora a ride but she replies that Luis is waiting for her and she resentfully says she never wants to see him again. When she’s gone, Catalina tells Alejandro that Edgar is her grandson, this is his home and I’ll make sure that he comes back. He retorts “You’ll never change will you? You’ll never understand.”

Jose Carlos is talking to Francisco. They discuss that Alejandro would be taking revenge right now but the fact that Catalina is his mother stops him doing so. “He’s not like his mother,” Francisco says, “I’d like to say that he’s like me, but...” Jose Carlos interrupts him to say that he’s Catalina’s accomplice in the diamond smuggling. Francisco states he was in charge of the foreign operations of the business, sending the deposits out of the country and it’s true that he would give Diego money so that he could bribe customs. Jose Carlos claims that he shouldn’t be explaining this to him, m but rather hand himself over to the police, if he really wants to help him catch Catalina. Francisco turns his back to look for a flash driver in the drawer. “The proof is all there,” he says as he throws it to him, adding “Your aunt asked for the divorce. All I’m asking is that you wait for her to leave first.”

Catalina visits Gélica and asks her how she is. Gélica says she couldn’t sleep at all and that jail is very scary and that prisoners are treated very inhumanely. Catalina warmly says that she appreciates everything Gélica has done for her. Gélica wants to know how much longer this process will take, and Catalina says the lawyers are currently working it out. Gélica asks how much time is left; and Catalina asks if she regretting doing this already. In a flashback, Catalina is telling Gélica that she’s the only one who understands her, and when someone loves for real, they must be willing to do anything and make sacrifices. “What sacrifice do you want?” Gélica asks. “To take my place,” Catalina responds, just before they kiss. Back in the present, Catalina asks her to have some patience, she’s in the lawyers hands now. Gélica asks why. Catalina says there are lots of documents to fill out, so she needs to be patient. Gélica says she’s being treated as a murderer here, something she did not do. She begs her to get her out of jail again. Catalina hands her something and Gélica hides it under her clothes.

Jose Carlos and Leonora are at his home. She says she will only be there until she finds a job and can move on. “I’m dying of fear,” she tells him. “Me too, I’m afraid of being who I am, I’ve never told anyone about it,” he responds. He wants Leonora to give him a chance and he says he’s loved her since the first time he saw her and she knows this. He continues: “I just want a chance. You know how much I love you and what I feel for you.” They kiss. At the end, Leonora tries not to cry and she tells him she doesn’t want to confuse her need for protection in place of a relationship because it wouldn’t be fair to either of them. Jose Carlos says he’s happy that she’s here now, and he understands her. “Thank you,” she says.

Alejandro visits Gélica and asks if his mother had visited her. She affirms. He asks if she has team preparing her defense, and Gelica confirms that too. However, he tells Gélica that it’s curious there’s no attorney on file for her case. She looks a little taken aback. He asks her why she’s doing all this. Gélica doesn’t really answer. He asks “What clothes was he wearing, where did you put the wedding band, how was the body positioned?” He pauses for a moment, but since she can’t answer, he continues “You can’t tell me because you didn’t kill Miguel.” “It was me,” Gélica barely says.

Leonora is visited by Alejandro. He tells her that Jose Carlos gave him the address. She lets him enter and they’re sitting on the couch. He asks if he can hold Edgar, but she doesn’t let him. He swears he didn’t want to hurt him, but Leonora brings up that he let him cry on the phone as she listened. He defends himself by saying that he was angry and wanted revenge. “Alejandro, I really loved you. When I saw you with Miguel, I was willing to leave. I just wanted you to be happy.” Alejandro tries to make amends and gives her back the patria protestad, hoping she can forgive him. He also wants her to take Edgar far away from Catalina. “I’ve come to say goodbye,” he cries.

Gélica repeatedly tries to make a phone call but no one answers the phone.

Catalina tells Vega that Jose Carlos is no longer a disturbance but rather a real problem now. “We can’t put a bullet to his head now, that would be suspicious,” he says. She says that obviously they have to find another way. The phone rings and Vega asks “Aren’t you going to answer the phone?” Frustrated, Catalina says “No! We’re talking about Jose Carlos.” She rejects the call; Gélica has a fit and the guard takes her away as she protests.
Catalina continues making her plan of getting rid of Jose Carlos. First she asks Vega who’s in charge of Bustamante’s investigation. Vega says he’s not sure but that he can get her the file if she wants, but he has to wait a bit because he doesn’t want to make it obvious. He suggests they focus on Sierra Leone. Catalina thinks that if Jose Carlos continues bothering her, Sierra Leone is the least of her problems. Vega says that they’re losing the mine already. The shipments aren’t coming into Mexico the way they should be, and they’re losing control. He also says he would like to see how Julius is working the mine, and if any of the shipments are stopped by the police, Jose Carlos would be the least of their problems.

Alejandro tells Jose Carlos that after seeing Gélica he went to see Leonora. “It was very painful,” he says, “I want to go very far away. I want my mother to pay for everything she’s done, but I really don’t want to be here anymore.” Jose Carlos says that he needs him here, but Alejandro says that none of the business belongs to him anyway. Jose Carlos consoles him: “We are brothers, this all belongs to the both of us. I need you to help me lift it again.” Alejandro protests “I need you to understand that I have to start my life over again, somewhere else.” Jose Carlos asks him to help him with the information Francisco handed over first, if he really wants his mom to pay for everything. “Count on it,” Alejandro says, and walks away with the drive.

From Sierra Leone, Ahmed calls Jose Carlos and says he has information on things happening at the mine. “How can I believe you?” Jose Carlos asks. “I’m risking my life to do this. Your family puts all of us at risk.” Jose Carlos asks to speak to Yohari’s wife, but Ahmed says she’s not available. (I did not understand this scene!)

Catalina scolds Gélica that she can’t answer her calls whenever she places them. Gélica says she has no lawyer. Catalina says the lawyer doesn’t have to be with her the whole way. Gélica says Alejandro came yesterday to interrogate her. “I didn’t betray you, Catalina” she says desperately. “It’s just that, when two people love each other,” she doesn’t get to finish. Catalina remarks “So many years at my side and you’ve never understood anything...how ingenuous you are, Gélica.” “But you told me-“ Catalina cuts her off with: “You really thought I was also falling in love with you? You once thought that I could ever love you? Never. I’d never fall in love with someone like you.” She exits the visiting area. Gélica repeatedly cries out her name, reaching for her past the bars, without any response.

Catalina wants to know what the chances are of Leonora’s getting Edgar’s custody. The lawyer responds that Alejandro can do it. Alejandro interrupts and asks what she’s planning now, if she’s really helping Gélica or planning to screw her over. Catalina asks her lawyers if they can speak later, but to prepare everything for the custody case. She turns her attention to Alejandro and says that she knows he went to see Gelica to interrogate her. She adds that if he has any questions, he should ask his mother instead. “Why should I ask you if you’re innocent?” Alejandro demands. “Everyone wants to blame me for something,” she says, and sits on the couch. She then demands that Alejandro begin interrogating her. She starts asking the questions and tells him that he can find the answers in Miguel’s case file. “Stop trying to blame me for everything. I’m your mother,” she says, “even if they want to make you believe that I’m a monster.”

Ambar is walking with a cane, speaking to her doctor. “We thought you had a cerebrovascular accident, but the studies show...” Ambar doesn’t hear the rest because she recognizes her nurse. The doctor calls her over. Ámbar openly asks how much did Catalina pay you?” The nurse freaks out and runs away, claiming she knows nothing. Ambar begs the doctor to give her the lady’s address.

Jose Carlos visits Gélica again and despite her protests, he says he wants to help her. “You were always the noble one,” she remarks. “Let me help you then,” he asks. She still doesn’t want his help. He starts saying that Catalina doesn’t love her at all, but Gélica cuts him off with “But I do love her.” Jose Carlos claims “You’re here for something you didn’t do.” Gélica begins to confess: “You’re not responsible for Catalina losing her eye- I always knew the truth and stayed quiet.” The flashback plays: Jose Carlos saw Francisco and Catalina together, Catalina provoked the accident and pulls the arrow out from her eye, and Jose Carlos went back to the room to see Francisco in his bathrobe.
In the present, Gélica tells him she can’t expect him to forgive her, and she leaves the visiting cell as Jose Carlos yells at her to tell the truth (about Miguel’s murder).

Jose Carlos confronts Catalina about what happened to her eye. She tells him to discuss it with his therapist, not her. “I was five years old. Five!” He states. “It was your fault,” Catalina coldly remarks. “My fault? I saw you in bed with my uncle, and it’s my fault? Everything that’s happened to me is your fault!” He exclaims. Catalina asks “You’re going to blame me about your drug addiction too?” Jose Carlos continues: “You made my family grow apart, you made my dad distance himself from me. You were afraid of me this whole time. A five year old boy. You were always afraid I’d tell my dad the truth.” Before storming out of the office, he tells her that “I know who you’re now: nothing but a poor woman afraid of losing everything that isn’t even hers; who’s afraid of people finding out she’s worthless. You have no idea how much pleasure that gives me.”

Alejandro tells Jose Carlos that he looked at the paperwork and determined that there were documents missing. Jose Carlos says that he got a call from Sierra Leone and that they’ve asked him to go to the mine. Alejandro doesn’t think it’s a good idea but asks when he’s leaving. Jose Carlos hasn’t scheduled the plane yet, because he’s worried about Leonora. Alejandro suggests they hire professionals for that. When his brother leaves, Jose Carlos makes a call to request a company plane to take him to Sierra Leone. The request is placed on the board and one of the workers sees it, so he begins to prepare the plane.

Ambar is at the nurse’s home, frantically knocking on it. Francisco claims the lady won’t do it, but Ambar continues to beg. “If I can get the lady’s confession, Catalina’s lawsuit against me will get thrown out,” she tells her husband.

Vega and Catalina are looking at the diamonds Julius had sent them. “They’re worthless,” Catalina says. Vega says that if she wants, he can go to Sierra Leone now. Catalina doesn’t think it’s a good idea but he tries to convince her that it’ll only be three or four days. “What’s wrong with you?” She asks, “the whole world is crumbling beneath me and you want to go now?” Vega replies “Trust me, I’ll never stab you in the back.”

Gélica is in her cell. She sees netting on the top portion of the gates. She starts pulling it.

Catalina takes a look at Gélica’s dresser and finds many of her items there, including her picture, as if it was a hidden shrine. “She really was sick,” she remarks, “Did you know about this?” The maid claims that she had no idea. Catalina orders her to get rid of the stuff, so that the house can be rid of Gélica.

A guard walks past each cell. “What did you do?” She asks, surprised. Gélica had hung herself to the netting, like a fly struggling to get out of the spider’s web.

Jose Carlos says that Alvaro died and now Catalina is getting rid of everyone else. Luis says “Diego’s death was supposedly a suicide, Miguel was pushed to his death, and now Alvaro, an important witness, appears dead.” Jose Carlos adds that “Gélica committed suicide.” Luis gets up and takes out the preliminary forensic report. He hands it over to Jose Carlos and explains that his good friend died for it. Carlos Larios didn’t die from drowning, he died from a head injury prior to going overboard, and the only one there was Catalina. “This changes everything!” Jose Carlos frantically shouts. Luis says “My son was threatened, she killed my friend...” Jose Carlos wants to kill Catalina, but Luis says that she can’t find out that they have this report. Jose Carlos still wants to kill her, but Luis says “we are not like them!” “Get out of my way!” Jose Carlos shouts, and leaves.

Vega is speaking to one of the miners. Vega insists that Gothier isn’t getting what they had agreed to be receiving, but Julius says that it is what they should be receiving and he doesn’t steal from anyone. Vega calls his friends over, and has the men aiming their guns at the miner.

Francisco gets ahold of the corrupt nurse. She begs not to be taken to the police because she has two children. Francisco says she should have thought about that. The nurse tells him that the lady paid her and asked her not say anything, that she had promised nothing would happen to her. “She lied to me,” she cries.

Jose Carlos is standing at his father’s grave, where he had men digging up the coffin. Carlos Larios’ body will be exhumed.
