El Dragón #51, 12/11/19: Destiny Is Master

It was a killer 24 hrs., but Chisca is now out of danger and being readied for the flight back to Mexico is the gist of Jorge and Miguel's conversation.  Jorge will get all the medical equipment for her recovery at home and hire a nursing service and 2 docs to live at the house during her recovery.  They cannot enjoy the luxury of a clinic as whoever was behind all the mayhem might find her and attack them all again.  Jorge takes the time here to apologize for keeping quiet about Valentin; the dude never squared with him.  Mig says it's his fault since the guy was his best buddy and did all of this right under his nose.  However, he's back in the samurai saddle and from here on out he'll have the blinders off.  (Pardon the mixed metaphor--if there is one here.)

Meanwhile, Epigmenio sends El Lobo to arrange Braulio travels to the mas allá.

Back at the Spanish hospital, Ishiro and Miguel discuss the Bushido response to all the mass killing of the past 24-48 hrs.  As a Samurai, Mig is not to bloody his hands when enraged or dishonored.  There is the Yakuza to do his dirty work for him, and Ishi has done his duty.  He's noted that Mig is in love and cannot go to his beloved with blood on his hands; Ishi may also be in love but his duty is to kill and he's had blood on his hands from the beginning.  But, now, Mig has to know if Ishi is in love with Chis?  No response, just a lowering of his head.

In Mexico at the manse, Dora is griping about how her hubby wouldn't have given the whole El Salado if he'd known the way Mig would handle things.  Adela tells her to suck it up.  Life happens.  Dora replies what does she know?  She's only a woman blinded by love.  Oh, says Adi,  I suppose Don Lamberto never screwed up?  Dora won't say more and storms off to bed.

Back to Chis and Miggy.  She wakes up and wants to say she's sorry for bringing all this tragedy onto his shoulders.  (Dios, are you up there having St. Peter take dictation?)  Mig apologizes for leaving her so alone and arrogantly believing his BFF was a good dude.  She should have told him about the rape cuz nobody but nobody should be abused like that.  Anyway, what has happened to Val?  "--What had to happen."  okay.....  and Ishiro?  He saved her life.  Yup.  (Okay Viewerville should brush up on how a Yakuza can one day become a Samurai in his own right.)

El Chuy gets a note and a bundle o' billetes de banco through the bars of his cell.  Hmmmmm.

The next day, Claudia and H. wonder why Pig came to the prison.  Did he meet Braulio and for what reason?  To get treatment for his wife or perhaps to ask Pig to get him out of prison?

El Chuy picks a fight with Braulio.  Braulio, courtesy of his cellmate smuggles in a cell phone and records his confession:  the agreement to take the wrap and the fall for Natalia's murder at Pig's request which he couldn't refuse.

On the way to load up for the private plane ride back to the D.F., Chis stops to tell Ishi thanks for saving her life and taking care of her despite her being rude and such a snotty brat.  Ishi doesn't dare do more than smile slightly.  Chis tells him he has a nice smile and should show it more often.  She gets wheeled away.

Later that day in D.F. the doctor and nurse and the room is all set up.  Chis arrives that night and Adi and Mig embrace.

Chis asks Jorge to forgive her and promises to kick her habit.  He tells her that he's moved in with Kenia.  Chis approves.

Dora gripes at Mig for being so wound up in his visions of glory that he is letting the empire fall to pieces around him.  Mig says she's living back in the past and things must and will change for the better.  Oh yeah?  Yeah.  He will not stop what he's doing to make it different and better.  She decides to move out and go back home.

That night Chis tells the nurse that she can leave and let's Ishi stand watch over her.  Chis takes his hand and gives it a secret squeeze.

Kenia receives an email from the person she fears most.  She's about to take off for parts unknown when Jorge arrives with pizza for dinner.  She is ticked off at having to hide her true reasons for wanting to leave (picking up dinner instead of ordering it over the phone app).  He knows something is disturbing her and they fight awhile.  She goes off and screams and pouts over getting the third degree from him.

Meanwhile, Adi goes outside into the backyard to chat with a meditating Mig who senses her arrival.  He admits he missed her; he tells her he has a heavy day tomorrow but he will make certain that the chemist's widow and child will be protected.  She asks how much he missed her; he tells her  to wait for tomorrow and then gets up and simply walks away.  She gripes about his bushido b.s.

The next morning El Chuy shivs Braulio in the prison showers and leaves him for dead.  His body is wheeled without a sheet to the morgue?  The prison doctors????

Mig meets with the widow and offers to send her to Japan to live with his friends there who'll let her live like a queen and protect her with their lives, blah blah.  >>FF>>FF (I got no time for stupid women who don't know when to follow orders from others in life-threatening situations.  Darwin's law should have prevailed here IVNHO.)  Peligros is ordered to take her to Japan.

Back at the manse, Chis is fighting the need for medicine/drugs.  Ishi sends the nurse away and practices some calming far Eastern method with his hands.  Chis calms down and falls asleep immediately.

Braulio's to cellmates see him as his body is rolled in a hospital cot off to who knows where.  They wonder if he's still alive and if something will happen to them now because they were his friends and compas.

Mig has a conference call by speaker only and tells Trejo he wants him to call him in five minutes on his cell for a private convo.  Jimena is ticked at the snub.  The others tease her.

Kenia gets another text on her phone from Mysterious Stalker Person.  She goes to meet him at the mall and leaves word with the receptionist to tell Jorge when he asks that she's at the doctor or some such.  (Saucer eyes from Sra. Receptionista??)

Flaco tells Trejo he's got some special investment to make --best he not tell..... okey...

Adi finds a beautiful red formal, black shoes and bag to match and an invitation to meet Miguel that night at 9 PM for dinner.

Kenia meets with the dude, Christian Barrera (how quaint - Christian Barrier in English -aka "Abdul".  Turns out Abdull is head of the local Arab terrorist cell.  He needs a place to hide out.  She rues the day she joined and says she's out.  He tells her menacingly what she already knows:  "--Nobody leaves; they join it's for life!"

On the other side of town, Adi arrives at a grand hotel and looks for Miguel there.  He appears in tie and tux, she in her long red gown.  He bought the hotel just so they could have the whole place alone that night.  He asks why she didn't fall in love and end up with Victor.  The heart knows what it wants.... Same with him.  He tells her the fable of the red string.  Life is full of connections predetermined by Fate/s.  People who don't know each other eventually will meet and fall in love.  Such is their luck in life now.  Fate/Destiny is master of life and love.  She's the one who brought him back to life.   He is in love with her. They kiss and go to dinner.  It's taco's from the cook and restaurant where she first took him.  The cook comes out to congratulate her and leaves when they get romantic.  He wants her with him always.  He finally tells her he wants to give their romance a chance.   She agrees on three conditions, one: they formalize with grandma, he does not sleep with other women, and someday or other she wants to have his child - yes she wants to be a mother.  He agrees, natch.  They kiss and then go swimming au natural in the hotel's indoor pool and kiss, and make up and seal their deal formally........

Wow, no comments yet. Guess I'm the first. :)

Thanks for the recap!

Was glad to see Miguel set Chisca straight on how there was never any excuse for Valentin to do what he did to her years ago. He was pond scum, plain and simple. She finally seems to be thinking straight for the first time in...ever? Ishiro is so gone for her. Let's hope they bring out the best in each other.

Braulio was dead man walking but I'm interested to see how his video confession will play into the plot and who gets it.

Dora is so bitter and not to be trusted lately. Wonder what she's going to do next?

Glad Miguel protected Tania and her baby by sending them to Japan, and probably under his mentor's protection.

Well, the two lovebirds, Miguel and Adela, finally sealed the deal and once there was no more running from their feelings, they sure didn't waste anytime.

The Good: Adela set boundaries right up front. Yay her! Miguel can't be with other women, even for "businesses purposes." He agreed to it so easily that I think he came to that conclusion on his own before he set up for a night of romance and frolicking with Adela. I definitely think his latest, ahem, incident with Crazy Mary knocked some sense into him. But I definitely think he will find himself in situations where his word to Adela will be put to the test. The burden of a guy wanted by beautiful and loose women.

P.S. Forgot to sign my post.

PS2: Comment about Adela.I feel like we still don't know much about her background, other than she was raised in Cuidad Jiménez like the Garza clan, and her only living relative is her grandmother.

What surprises me about Adela for a Televisa protagonista (heroine) is how sexually comfortable and unapologetic she is about that. It's not that she's loose but she obviously has experience, and the script is not trying to excuse it or explain it by saying she was raped as a teenager or sexually exploited at some point. She makes her own decisions about who she's going to sleep with, right or wrong. She literally slept with Victor after a couple dates because he impressed her with a "concert" and mostly because she was on the rebound from Miguel who was sort of flaunting Jimena in her face. Clearly Victor was not her first but no explanation was given
She realized pretty quickly she just wasn't that into him and called it quits.

My question is, is it weird seeing such a modern, liberated, quirky protagonist with a heart of gold in a Televisa novela? For me, it kind of is. Even though I am very used to leading ladies like Adela in regular American shows, dramas and soap operas. Usually the sexually liberated women in novelas are only the Jimena types. At least the ones I've seen.

Ok, now I'll go back to yesterday's recaps and read the red string comments.

What did you guys think about the pool scene with Miguel and Adela? Personally, I didn't think there were too many Sparks flying around. They just didn't project passion for me. I'd be interested to know what y'all think.

Great recap, Jar. Always a pleasure to read what you have to say about this twisted tale. You gave Adela and Mig just the right spin--not too schmaltzy.

Becky: I'm sure "the incident" with Crazy Mary gave him great pause to reflect. Nevertheless, I think he has his hands full with our no-nonsense, shoot from the mouth, Adela. They sure made an attractive couple last night, but alas, I found a lack of chemistry between the two, even in the water. (Hey remember Lucia and Jacobo in the river? Now THAT was chemistry.

Ok, so now we're halfway there with Kenia's mortal fear of her past catching up with her. Arab? He had to be an Arab? An Arab Terrorist? Isn't there some other group we could pick on?

Hey--Whatever happened to Trejo's tea? When I watched the episode, I kept my eye on the scene where he gives it to Patricia. The carton was already open because the lid was partially raised. Was that a "tea herring?"

Victoria--I was interrupted by a call from my bank (nothing serious), so you posted before I finished. Nope--no sparks, no chemistry.

The scene in the pool (funny their first time was in the water like Lucia & Jacobo) was well done but not as explicit as Lucia and Jacobo. Like, there were way more close ups and open mouth kissing in that AAM scene, plus a better written build up of sexual tension. Miguel has been all over the place for so long that it was hard to have a real build up. I definitely enjoyed Miguel and Adela's first and second make out sessions more and hope to see more of that tonight since they obviously have more passion to burn coming up. Adela looked very into it but the scene was much more protected visually. It was pretty but not as sexy as the office scene with Jimena, even.

Thank you Jardinera!

I liked the scenes with Miguel finally "courting" Adela. Maybe some of you thought there wasn't enough chemistry, but I saw it as more of a courting, romantic love without the cheap uncontrolled lust. Perhaps Mig sees Adela as more of a woman of honor, that you treat gently, not like a wham, bam, thank you ma'm situation. He is treating her with respect, instead of just a woman he uses.

I think that Dora feels she is unwanted and unneeded anymore. Out with the old, in with the new. But times change and because Mig wants to do things differently, she should respect that. She cannot keep saying that he needs to do things Lamberto's way. Clearly that wasn't working either.

Great work.

For a protagonista to have had prior experience is long overdue. It's much more in touch with reality. I find that refreshing.

I'm not sure that Chisca's recovery would be any better at home.

As for Kenia, I feel for Jorge. He's in for a world of hurt... or death.

Victoria, the pool scene, maybe there wasn't many sparks, AB was probably right off camera. But for me, when the show was abruptly over, I at first thought the pool water had burst into flames. !

Adela's second stipulation, that he MUST meet Grammy was the icing on the cake.

And Adela is far far from the females we have been treated to thus far in TeleNovelas, though she is much more 'girl next door' and normal and healthy than anything I have ever seen in a TN.

OK so Dora has finally realized / admitted she is like tits on a bull and ridden off into the sunset. Good riddance.

Kirby, I know what you mean about Adela. She has standards and isn't willing to "settle" for something less than she really deserves. She is confident, but not over confident in herself and not a narcissist. Even though she was in love with Miguel, she is not willing to settle for a man who keeps using women in business.

As for Dora, I see this attitude all the time at work. You know, "But we have always done it this way." Then they bring in a new computer system that the older folk are having trouble learning and then the older generation all retires and moves on because they can't handle the changes in their job and knowledge description. Some are forced off the job and made to retire. But that's work, Dora is family and she isn't being forced out of the family. I did like when she made the comment to Adela, "Well you are just saying that because you are in love with Miguel." Adela came right back with a "Well you said and did a lot of things and agreed with Lamberto because you were in love with him." I know that hit her right between the eyes because she knew it was true and she really doesn't want to face the truth.

I felt they were going for more romance too. There was no rushed, frenzied sexual vibe to the scenes, whereas Lucia and Jacobo were all about uncontrolled lust, and also Angelique plays more vixen type characters than Renata Notni (since she was younger than Renata is now) and can sell onscreen heat with her co-stars better than most Televisa actresses. She is fire. Lucky Sebastian Rulli in real life lol.

But anyway, I do want kisses that are at least as good as the one with Miguel and Adela in the Garza kitchen. We barely got a good angle on their kisses last night. More the back of their head shots than anything.

Jardinera: Adela is very brave telling Dora off like that.

Jardinera, thank you for your excellent recap of all the action.

Watching Ishiro administer his gentle, loving healing touch to Chis was lovely. Maybe he will be able to save this damaged soul. That would be a nice, positive ending since I have seen so many people never recover from drug addition in the real world.

I think That Adela should have said, " Whoa , Boyo," and held off that romantic evening until after Mig got tested to make sure that he would not pass along anything that he contracted through his he-ho adventures.

More prison violence...in the shower. Yikes.

After last night, I’m almost positive Kenia is the office spy. She’s going down either way. Poor Jorge is in for a double whammy. Her personal betrayal of their relationship by lying to him and her betrayal of Miguel and the team.. If Kenia had just ‘fessed up about her past, since none of them are squeaky clean, it would have gone better for her. She chose to protect only herself.

-Becky

Becky, then you look at Kenia,
such a nice looking, clean, pretty chick and think "Who knew?". :-)

Cynthia--I'm all for romantic love, don't get me wrong. I dislike the "tear of your clothes and go at it anywhere" sex we see too much of in telenovelas and everywhere else. Maybe we were made to wait too long for Mig & Ade to come together and were really expecting fireworks. I noted that they both looked resplendent in their first real meeting. Maybe it would have worked better to have ended the episode with the two of them still dressed and getting to know each other verbally, maybe a couple more kisses and cheek to cheek dancing and saved the skinny dipping until tonight. We'll have to wait and see how they dry off....

Susanlynn--Know Thy Partner's Medical Record before you try him/her out, right? Think of all the medical bills for treatment the country could save....though, somehow, I tend to think folks don't carry around their MedRecs when out drinking at a bar. Yikes, how times have changed. Maybe there's something to on-line dating?

Oh, and yes, I really got into Ishiro's mind meld. I will probably never like Chisca very much, but he certainly is good for her (and for himself).

I think if any character on El Dragon is reckless enough to get an STD, it's Chisca. She can even be talked into a random threesome when she's high as a kite. Miguel at least is usually clear headed when choosing his partners and his type is usually sophisticated and/or rich and smart and blonde (Karina, Jimena, the Serbian chick, even Crazy Mary) or his other type, the more down to earth, relatable women who are brunettes (Adela and Asya). He has two very specific types lol.

Thanks, Jardinera.

Adela looked absolutely fabulous in that red gown. To me, she and Mig have a more buddy chemistry than a smoldering hot one. Plus, I may be hold Mig's past antics against him. Plus, Angelique has a talent for having great chemistry on screen with every actor she's paired with. That's a special talent.

The most romantic to me last night was Ishiro laying hands on Chisca to calm her down. Ooh-la-la.

Kenia was a terrorist? Wow. You're think she'd at least confess to Flaco. Anyhoo, he'd be my choice.

Dora has fallen from grace since she tried to murder Adela, but she's got a point. Pig has been wreaking havoc, even killed zarasoga and to her Mig is ineffectual against him.

I think Miguel has to prove himself to us skeptics in a the audience who saw Miguel seduce Crazy Mary into making a mistake and thus leading to his escape just three days ago. He is smooth and charming enough to entice most beautiful women into his bed. That’s very James Bond but it’s not a recipe for a guy 100% committed to one woman. This is not a knock on Adela but Miguel didn’t even have to wine and dine her or say the right words to sleep with her. She made it perfectly clear she was willing if he was a while ago.

So the most romantic scene between them last night, for me, was Adela laying down the ground rules and Miguel saying “I accept” and looking like he meant it. Will he live up to this agreement? Time will tell.

I just remembered something I thought was kind of absurd last night. The writers have been going out of their way to keep Miguel from “getting blood on his hands” personally, even though he has been directly involved in, consented to or helped cover up
several murders. Peligros and now Ishiro have murdered in his name. But Ishiro actually gives Miguel a pep talk yesterday about how it was the right thing to do to order Ishiro to do it and not him because Miguel can’t have “blood on his hands.” As if ordering a hit isn’t the same exact thing. Do not get this logic. Also, if Miguel is ok ordering hits, why not EPig? Makes no sense.
