El Dragón #50, 12/10/19: Ishiro to the rescue!

We begin with Chisca finding the Efilina in Mig’s closet in the secret hiding place. Meanwhile, in Isabela’s apartment, Val is conspiring with Piero regarding how to get the Efilina from Miguel. Piero says that they are going to murder Miguel. Almost as though he has a conscience, Val looks troubled and tries to say that won’t work because Miguel is a Samurai. But Piero says this time things will be different and the Japanese guy won’t get in his way. Then Val’s phone rings and of course it’s Chisca with the good news that she found the Efilina prototype. Val puts her on speakerphone so Piero can hear. Then Val tells her to meet him at his apartment.

As Piero leaves, he hands Val a gun as a “just in case.” Isabela comes downstairs and Val tells her he has to leave. She tells him to be careful.

Ishiro goes to pick up Miguel and as Ishiro puts away Mig’s bag in the trunk he tells Mig that all kind of urgent things are happening in Mexico. However, Mig says that he can’t leave until he has completed his business there. He mentions Val and Ishiro’s face darkens. He says to Mig, “Are you sure you trust Valentín?” “Of course I do, he’s like a brother to me” replies Miguel. Mig notices Ishiro’s expression and asks why. “Nothing” says Ishiro. “Is there something I should know, Ishiro?” “Nothing” says Ishiro. Then Mig says, “Okay, let’s go back and get the prototype.”

Hector and Claudia are hanging out outside the prison where Braulio is serving time. They notice that a car drives up with Braulio’s wife coming for a visit. During the visit, the wife talks about the kids and then Braulio asks how she is and she says she is fine. He then says he knows she is sick. “How did you know?” she asks. He promises that he will get out and help her seek treatment.

At Val’s apartment, Chisca arrives finally. She shares with him as they kiss how she remembered how Mig used to hide things in the closet so no one would find them and that’s how she found the Efilina. Val asks if she told anyone where she was and she exclaims she told no one. (She looks like she is thumbing through some record albums talking). Then Val demands that she hand over the Efilina, but Chisca is not paying attention. Val grabs the gun, ordering Chisca to hand it over. Chisca stands up just looking at him and says, “Uh, I don’t like these kinds of games.” Val says he is not playing games. At gunpoint, she gives him the Efilina. At first he kisses her but the gun is pointed in her ribs. He steps back a few steps and shoots her. Chisca falls to the floor crying, grabbing her wound. He looked like he was going to take a second shot, but decides not to and hightails it out of there, I suppose hoping that she dies. He gets into his car and drives off.

Crying, Chisca is able to grab her purse and call Ishiro. He answers and she tells him she has been shot by Valentín in his apartment. Mig then tries to call Val who is driving away to his destination, but Val ain’t answering.

In Mexico City, Braulio makes a call to ePig and says he needs help because he needs a free get out of jail card so he can attend to his sick wife. First, ePig tells him that he will go there when he has time, but Braulio says it must be today. “Fine” says ePig, “I’ll go today.”

Mig and Ishiro arrive at Val’s apartment where Chisca lay critically injured. She tells Mig it was Valentin who did this so he could get the Efilina. Mig grabs a cloth to help stop the bleeding and pressed her wound. He tells her to hold on. Ishiro has called the ambulance. She loses consciousness…

Val arrives in Isabel’s apartment and tells her they have to leave now. He pulls out some phony passports with fake names and some bundles of Euros. She wants to know where they are going and doesn’t want to do this, obviously. He won’t even let her take a suitcase. He calls Piero to tell him he has the Efilina. Piero tells Val where to meet him at the airport and Val tells him he is bringing Isabel. Val then tells her to go back in the bedroom and pack her jewels. Piero does not want Isabel coming, but Val tells him that if he isn’t allowed to bring Isabel, then no Efilina. Behind the door, Isabel is listening to this conversation and gets the gist of what is going on. She hears Val promise Piero that he is ready to let go of Isabel if need be. Isabel is visibly shaken.

Chisca is transported in the ambulance to the hospital. During the ride, Chisca finally confesses that Val once raped her on the night he introduced Val to her, the same night he met Aysa. Val was the one who introduced her to cocaine. Mig promises her that Val is going to pay for everything he has done but the most important thing now is that she gets better. Ishiro says he will go after Val so that Miguel can stay with Chisca. She does not want Miguel to leave her because if she dies, she does not want to die alone. Ishiro promises Chisca that he will find Val, no matter where he is hiding.

Ishiro contacts Flaco to get Val’s current location. He says everything is fine but complicated. Flaco give Ishiro the address.

In Isabel’s apartment, Isabel hastily types something into her phone and hides it under the bed. Val comes in, grabs her, then says they must go NOW. But Isabel wants an explanation. “Are you on my side, or not?” says Val. “As always, I am” she replies. He then crushes the microchip from his phone. Isabel then asks, “You won’t let anyone hurt me, right?” He looks at her and says, “Stop asking me silly questions. We have to leave now.”

At the hospital, Chisca is taken into surgery. As she is being wheeled in, Miguel tries to tell the doctor needs the best care and maximum privacy. Ishiro stops the doctor and tells him that his boss is very generous and not to worry, he’s really a very powerful man. The doctor nods and goes off to surgery. Mig tells Ishiro, “Find the Efilina prototype and then kill Val.”

At Garza central headquarters, Flaco says they lost Valentín. Trejo gets on the phone to call Ishiro that they lost Valentín. As he is on the phone, Adela grabs the phone from him and says, “Ishiro, could you please explain what is going on?” He tells her that Miguel is fine but it’s best that she talk to Mig himself. Right now, the priority is to find Val.

Ishiro arrives at an empty apartment. He finds the crushed microchip. He calls Mig to let him know that Val is not there. He opens the closet, sees women’s clothes that are not Chisca’s. Then he realizes this must be Val’s (ex) wife’s place. He finds the phone that she threw under the bed and finds the message: “Miguel, at the airport, hanger C.”

While waiting, Miguel finally calls Adela and instructs her that he is fine but there is a situation with Val. He tells her that he will explain later and if she loves him, she will not share anything he tells her. All she is to do is to say that everything is fine and let everything know he has everything under control. So Adela fakes it and lets the crew know exactly that. “Now let’s get back to work” she says. Kenia makes a comment about “with Miguel, everything is urgent.”

Jorge wants some answers, but Adela isn’t giving up anything because she really doesn’t know anything.

Outside the prison, Hector goes to the street vendor and notices a large black SUV coming. He hides around the tree. He then sees that it’s ePig, coming for a visit. Inside, the prison guard comes to get Braulio to see his visitor. ePig enters the visiting cell, they both hug then Braulio tells him the dilemma of his sick wife and that he needs to get out to take care of his family. Pig says, “You know what you are asking is very difficult.” But Braulio says, “You’re Don Epigmenio and you can move mountains, right?” Finally, ePig says, “Okay, give me some time to think about it. Let me see what I can do.” Outside, Hector chats with the prison guard about this important person and who he came to visit. “this is exactly the kind of information I was looking for” says Hector.

ePig of course, goes straight to Carlos Duarte, but isn’t too happy to see ePig. He scolds ePig for going over to the prison, lays into him about his recent murders and tells him that he’s really going to be in trouble when Miggy finds out that he murdered Zaragosa! “I don’t need your sermons” says ePig. “Well if you are going to be that way,” says Duarte, “then I don’t want you anywhere near me.” ePig then asks about getting Braulio out of prison. They are afraid he is going to talk once he is out. Duarte says the best thing to do is kill him, as there is no other way around it. “Look at you,” says ePig, “You are turning into one of my guys now.” Duarte says, “We need to get him out of the way.”

Chisca is in surgery and the surgeon successfully removes the bullet. Looks like she is going to live.

Val and Isabel arrive at the airplane hanger. Something has gone wrong and everything is not ready to go yet. Val and Piero get in a little argument and Isabel looks scared. She pleads with Val to let her stay, but he tells her, “Hey, it’s much to late now.” He grabs her and drags her off over to where a helicopter is hovering down.

Ishiro arrives, jumping the fence and taking out the guard. He finds more guards and using his martial arts, takes them all down in one or two kicks and punches. Val forces Isabel on to the helicopter. Ishiro arrives yelling, “VALENTÍN!” Another guard is there and Val takes out his gun trying to shoot Ishiro, but he ends up killing the guard. The helicopter starts to lift leaving Val there on the ground with Ishiro. In the helicopter, Piero has knocked out Isabel. On the ground, Ishiro and Val are in a fight. [I don’t know why this took so long. The other guys were bigger and Ishiro took them out in about one punch and a kick. This seemed to last a lot longer.] Val got one lucky punch at Ishiro. He looks up and Piero has thrown Isabel to her death on the ground. Ishiro takes a couple more punches at Val. He says to Val, “Miguel trusted you and all you did was betray him. You even abused his little sister.” Val says, “It’s okay because he already had everything.” A few more punches and kicks and Val is on the ground, this time grabbing a knife that just happened to be on the dead guard. Finally, Ishiro gets Val on the ground again and starts punching him, one right after another.

In the hospital, Mig holds Chisca’s hand.

Val’s last words before Ishiro strangled him was something like, “Are you going to give a message to Chisca about your part in this?” He uses the word “Chinito” to Ishiro, which is a word similar to “Chinaman.”

It's kind of long today, but there was just so much action to pack in.

Thank you for the recap, Cynthia!

Last night's episode was an adrenaline rush and there was actual payoff - the truth about Valentin's traitorous ways finally revealed. Finally. At least they didn't save this for the final week. Ishiro's action sequence with Valentin was pretty good. Valentin dragged Isabel with him in this mess and then didn't seem to care he got her killed. Then he asks Ishiro if he has a final message for Chisca (which he presumably will give to her in hell). Low-life scumbag til the bitter end. Looks like Chisca's gonna make it though....

So Miguel ordered Ishiro to kill Valentin when he found him. First time he has ever ordered a murder directly. Can't really say I blame him... On another note, and I only say this because this is fiction, but Miguel has had plenty of reason to have Epig killed a long time ago, and it stretches credibility that he hasn't truly retaliated against him in a while despite Epig causing maximum damage every chance he gets, including the office exploding. The writers need to keep the main villain viable til the end, I get that, but it's just not believable that Miguel lets him get away with everything.

And then there's the promo at the end of the episode. Naturally, El Dragón will segue from violence and adrenaline to pretty words and romance lol. Adela looked stunning in that red dress.

Steve must be turning backflips and swinging on the chandeliers.

Yep Valentine was a scumbag right to the bitter end. We did not see Ishiro retrieving the sample, I assume he does, though.

So Chisca, do you believe us now? Did this near death experience provide a life changing Ishiro-Girlfriend-Qualifying wake up call? And you Miguel? Open your eyes for something more than mirrors.

I was kind of on the fence about Isabel, Mrs Not Val, but I suppose it doesn't matter anymore. I knew she was 'sort of' in on Val's evil plans, but always semi forgave her thinking she was fooled too, or because she was hot. Woofers think that way.

If Isabel had made it, she could be Miguel's new Chemist, because if she was smart enough to leave the airstrip address on her abandoned phone, she can surely decode some enzymes and molecules.

It appears Aw Heck and the Claw are about to add another name to their growing list of dead bodies they are indirectly responsible for. I actually thought ePig was planning on doing the deed right there in the visitation cell. Works for Peligros if I remember right.

So how many times did Chisca die last night? I thoughrt she was a goner when her last words to her Bro were about Not Val, like deathbed confession. Will she go from the hospital straight to Garza Detention Hall for stealing the Ephiline and conspiracy against her own family?

Then in the ambulance she was all Chatty Cathy. I wa waiting for her to go achk..patoo and spit up the bullet onto Miggy. Then things turned grave again in the Hospital. Oh Well, she made it I guess.

Becky, I wondered the same, and assume that Miguel does not know the extent of all eOink's crimes against him. Will things change when he sorts out that Zaragosa was pigged?

Cynthia: I see that nagging Isabel FINALLY got whacked. She was too damn annoying.

Becky: I noticed that Valentin's last words were Ishiro's complicity in the conspiracy too. Hmmm..

Kirby: Chisca is still the spoiled little bratty expletive she's always been. She'll get back on the cocaine in a few weeks.

Gracias, Cynthia. Good work on a great episode.

We didn't see Ishiro retrieve the vial, so that is what we need to look for tonight. If he didn't or if it broke during the fight any police investigation will be dangerous to Ishiro and Miguel after this. Ishiro had better leave the country before the police are informed about this. I hope he has his plane ticket.

It's a good thing that NotValid is dead because my money said that Chisca would still have gone back to him. She needs to be in a psych ward. I will need evidence that this cured a death wish she doesn't know she had.

No matter what happens tonight I think we're stuck with the Pig until the end.

Nagging? I thought I had read it all.
"Honey, why did you kill your girlfriend?"
Yup nagging.

I think they're setting it up for Ishiro to be Chisca's savior, not just physically but emotionally as well. He already seems personally invested in saving her and the writers set it up for him to avenge her instead of Miguel. Also, Chisca and Ishiro are featured in the promo for tonight where Miguel is telling Adela "Legend says that there's a red thread uniting two people who are meant to be together in life no matter how long it takes them." (Must be a Japanese legend I've never heard of ha.)

Poor old Victor, remember him, Adela's 'Elevator Guy' ? He must have gone on a cruise to try and forget about her. She should have gone with him.

Thank you, Cynthia. I have not seen the episode , but I decided it and hope to watch it later.

I suspected that the writers were setting stoic, loyal Ishiro up to save Chis from herself. I suppose we all know people who are so damaged that they are thicken worst enemies.

I don't know if the red thread statement Mig made is Japanese. I have read about a belief in Kabala that sometimes two people find each other and their bond is so strong because they were once just one soul. Hence, the term soulmates. I believe this is true . Sometimes ,the strong attraction between two people can not be explained..it just is. we I believe that Kabala followers wear a red thread on their wrist .Maybe this will be what happens between Ishiro and Chis.

Decided it?????.....geez...recorded it. I hate you, autocorrupt.

And autocorrupt hates you.

Are you still typing comments on your smartwatch? :-)

Kirby...ha...I don't have a smart watch , but my 12 year old nieta has one. I stil l have my little 7 inch Amazon tablet Just careless and impatient and not proofreading . In my defense, I sometimes change the Change autocorrect made ....and it changes it back again . Crazy .

Thank you, Cynthia. Your recap is awesome and I don;t see how you could have shortened it without leaving out so many important details.

I did NOT expect Notval to shot Chis in cold blood....maybe if she had refused to give him the prototype, but to shoot her just 'cuz? WOW. UA< "It's a good thing that NotValid is dead because my money said that Chisca would still have gone back to him." My money would be there too!

Kirby, "So how many times did Chisca die last night?" Geez, the girl has more lives than a cat! I did notice that her internal bleeding miraculously stopped on its own . She was spitting up blood right after she was shot, but in the ambulance she only had a trickle of dry blood on her chin.

Becky, " Ishiro's action sequence with Valentin was pretty good" I was quite impressed too! His karate movements are so much better than Miguel's. And Cynthia, I too wondered why the fight between Ishiro and NotVal was as long as it was. Victor even knocked Ishiro down! Now that was unbelievable to me.

Anon 10:27, "I think they're setting it up for Ishiro to be Chisca's savior..." unfortunately that does seem to be the case. And dang it, Chis is going to end up with the galan of this show. NOT FAIR!

Thanks, Cynthia.

I’m glad to see Valentin put down. And who better than Ishiro to do it? But I also feel cheated that I didn’t get to see Mig confront his old friend and that Chisca didn’t get a chance to get in a few licks of her own.

I don’t know why this took so long. The other guys were bigger and Ishiro took them out in about one punch and a kick. This seemed to last a lot longer.

Cynthia, ITA. No way would Val be a good enough fighter to last that long against Ishiro. And that dummy Val was grinning as if he were a supervillain, instead of a ratfink lucky to befriend Mig and his troubled sister at the right time.

I saw in earlier episodes that Valentin has boxing experience. It's possible he's a trained fighter too and built for endurance but just still not as skilled a fighter as Ishiro.

-Becky

P.S. I think Miguel might redeem himself in the romance and true love aspect of a galán. Even after the explosion and admitting he wuv'ed Adela, he still would not commit to a real relationship with her and she called him on it before he left on his Miami & Spain trip. The promo for tonight is the first time he says he wants a shot at a real relationship with her. Of course, for this to work on any level, he must give up his he-ho ways, even if those escapades of business+pleasure mean nothing to him as he claims, and he has to commit to Adela 100% Also, will he tell her about crazy Maria? Ha.

Gosh I kinda miss Crazy Maria a little already. The crazy chicks like her can be a lot of fun if you are into fruit, if she wasn't just downright DANGEROUS.

Maybe her Sis will get her straightened out. Put her playfulness in Adela and wowzers! Migalicious' wandering ways would be over for sure.

Susanlynn: "I don't know if the red thread statement Mig made is Japanese. Ohhh I didn't immediately associate Miguel's narrative in the promo with Kabala but I should have. It makes the most sense and fits with his meditation practices I guess. I've seen several celebrities, including some from Latin America, wearing a red thread on their wrist.

Here's Miguel's exact quote loosely? translated, now that I've found a clip of the promo:
Miguel: "The legend tells that the people who are destined to meet each other are bonded together by a red thread. A lot of time can pass by before they meet, and sometimes there's even a great distance between them, This thread is infinite because its owner is destiny."
Adela: "Do you believe in this red thread?"
Miguel: "Yes. I love you. And I want to attempt a relationship with you because you are the woman who's brought meaning back into my life."

Becky--This is a hard thought to follow, but I have to start at the beginning of the recap and …

Thank you Cynthia! No need for excuses. The episode and the recap were both so fantastic. At long last SOMEONE is getting just desserts. You brought it all back to life.

Excuse me, Sr. e-Pig, since when do you need to get your man out of prison to take care of his family--except that it's a plot propeller. Didn't he SWEAR he would take care of Braulio's family if Braulio took the fall for Natalia?

Excuse me, Sr. Miggy, since when do you have the right to order someone to kill someone else. Is it just that you didn't have time to do it yourself or you didn't want to get your hands bloody and stay true to your Japanese upbringing. Self-defense is ok, but no beheadings, right?

Excuse me, Sr. Miggy, since when do you call Val when you know your sister has been shot. Don't you call an ambulance immediately? Why wait until you get there and order Ishiro to do it. Geesh, tn folks just don't know the proper sequence to follow in times of grave physical harm.

Those were my only beefs with the episode. Can't wait for the red thread in the red dress tonight. Could it be that Mig's near death experience at the hand of Crazy Mary all of a sudden will turn him into a monogamous, home by 6, vacations in Mazatlán kind of guy?

Kirby--Thanks for your amusing sideswipes at Chisca. I also thought she was a goner, or should have been. We could have soldiered on without her--as long as she said Val shot her. He could have figured out the rest when he discovered the sample missing.

Wiki answers the "Red Thread (of Fate) question--
The Red Thread of Fate (simplified Chinese: 姻缘红线; traditional Chinese: 姻緣紅線; pinyin: Yīnyuán hóngxiàn), also referred to as the Red Thread of Marriage, and other variants, is an East Asian belief originating from Chinese legend. According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red cord around the Finger of those that are destined to meet one another in a certain situation as they are "their true love".[1] Often, in Japanese and Korean culture, it is thought to be tied around the little finger. According to Chinese legend, the deity in charge of "the red thread" is believed to be Yuè Xià Lǎorén (月下老人), often abbreviated to Yuè Lǎo (月老), the old lunar matchmaker god, who is in charge of marriages.

The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break. This myth is similar to the Western concept of soulmate or a destined partner.

OMG. What a BLOCKBUSTER Finally!!

I think I've waited for this entire novela just to see Ishiro put Valentin down in such a gorgeously, slow and torturously way. I was cheering at each and every kick and punch. Just disappointed that Ishiro missed connecting a couple of times. But then Muhammad Ali missed a few also. Ishiro's jaw was clinching so strong I thought he'd break the bone. And the blood gushing out of NoVal's mouth was a sight to behold.

Cynthia, I'm so glad the scene was so long, I was able to enjoy NoVal's demise that much longer.

Hey you guys, would it be too much to ask that advance promos at the end of each episode not be mentioned because some of us aren't given the option of seeing what's coming up next? I just thought the 'no spoiler' zone would apply.. Am I wrong?

Cynthia. That was an action packed recap you gave. You had me enjoying the episode all over again.

Thank you everyone! It really was enjoyable to write last night's recap because there was so much action. I didn't want to miss any of it.

I didn't actually see who ended up with the vial of Efilina. For some reason I thought I saw Val toss it over to Isabel before they left. Or am I wrong? Felt sorry for Isabel being thrown to her death like that. But being involved with Val--he ruins everything he touches.

Kirby, you make me laugh. Already missing La Loca Mary?

We shall see what transpires tonight...
