El Dragon #55, 12/17/19: The Great Escape and a Business Expansion

We open with the getaway from the prison being apparently stopped. But Peligros and Ishiro open the doors of the van and Braulio must be hidden or underneath, because he isn’t anywhere visible. Satisfied, the guards let them leave through the gates. The prison warden and a couple others want to know why they let the van leave. So they send out an APB for the van. Meanwhile, they are ditching the van and Adela has met them with another car. However, there is a helicopter above them, so she diverts to an underground garage. Peligros wants to know what is going on and she tells him, “trust me” and “have some patience.” They pull up next to a blue sports car (a corvette?) and she pulls out of the underground garage. They make it to their destination where Braulio’s family waits for him in an SUV.

They explain to Braulio that they work for Miguel Garza. Ishiro also explains what happened to Hector and that Hector is in the hospital. Ishiro also gives Braulio a wristband device that can locate him anyplace. They will get in touch with him when they need him to testify. Braulio leaves with his family. Then Peligros, Ishiro, and Adela get into a silver truck and leave.

Edna and Gary are investigating the quarters where ePig was holed up for a while. Edna makes a comment that he was caught by surprise. Edna finds a little medallion necklace with a date on it. Gary says it’s ePig’s birthdate on it. They look around and find his boots and clothes and surmise that he left without clothes and was bleeding. Edna says he definitely did not leave on his own two feet.

At Sucesso, Claudio is gathering up some of Hector’s things. He friend Marcos comes up to her with some news she may be interested in….ePig might be dead.

Dora walks with Sandro outside and talks to him about a job well done. She tells him that Miguel had to take a trip to the Orient and that is why she came. She also tells him she is on her way to Cuidad Jimenez to reorganize El Salado.

Miguel goes to visit Hector in the hospital. He tells Hector that he is going to the orient with Adela and that he is in love again. Claudia arrives with his laptop and stuff, bringing the news that ePig could be dead.

Jimena talks to the owner of what appears to be the same type of app that Uber Eats does and Door Dash. She tells him he could expand all over the world! Is he ready for new opportunities? He says he will have to discuss with his business partners.

A doctor gives Jorge a clean bill of health but says his problems are psychological. He gives Chisca a card for a good psychiatrist. Adela mentions that Jorge has regular nightmares concerning his grandfather. Dora is overhearing across the room.

At the hospital, Claudia turns on the TV for Hector to hear the news that ePig might be dead. He wonders who might have killed him. Their first thoughts are about Carlos Duarte, but that is just a speculation.

At Carlos’s office, Mauricio and another discuss with him about ePig’s probable death. Carlos isn’t too concerned, but they both tell him that Braulio is still out there and he is a ticking time bomb for them.

At Casa Garza, Dora is getting ready to go to Cuidad Jimenez. She talks to Miguel and tells him she didn’t want to leave before getting to see him. She tells him she wants to get the men together from Zaragosa’s men. He warns her that they really don’t know if ePig is alive or dead and she needs to be careful. He tells her that Peligros will accompany her.

Carmen and ePig’s right hand man (don’t know his name) share some drinks together. He tells her not to worry, that he is taking care of all ePig’s business. Then she says, “And what about me? Who is going to take care of me?” He answers, “Well who else?” He plants a big kiss on her lips. She then slaps him. Then she decides she wants him, so Carmen grabs him and they share some passionate kissing together.

Back at the Garza home, Miguel tells Ishiro that he wants him to secure a place for a large gathering. Also he wants him to watch his siblings for him. Miguel also tells Ishiro that he is happy that he and Chisca spend time together.

Edna and her husband have dinner and she tells him her work is going to hell in a handbasket. Then they have this little discussion about trust. Yeah right, if she thinks she can trust that husband of hers.

Kenia comes home and cuts a lime open then grabs a bottle from the cabinet. Her man “Abdul” keeps asking what she is doing and then he gets abusive. Then she grabs the knife and threatens to kill him.

On Mig’s plane, he and Adela talk about ePig. She mentions how he probably died with a lot of secrets. She asks Mig if he knew that ePig and his parents where actually friends. He thinks back and remembers a family cook out together where ePig and his wife were present and they were having fun together. Mig asks Adela how she knew that ePig and his parents where friends. “Well, Peligros told me.” Adela then asks if he really wants to know what happened to his parents or if this is just opening an old wound. Mig tells her that whoever did that to his parents, if it was ePig or whoever, it’s a burden that he has to live with.

Mig and Adela land in Nepal and are met by Tadamichi. Mig introduces him to Adela. Tadamichi shows them to the laboratory to meet Emilio Varela. They tour the place and get to know how the Efilina is being manufactured there. The tiny pills are placed into the back of a little round medallion that has a dragon on it. Adela makes the comment that the dragon will signify “Made by Miguel Garza.” But Miguels says lots of people use the dragon, it won’t mean that much.

In Cuidad Jimenez, Dora is very much under the impression that ePig is dead.

In the offices, Miguel lays out the business plan regarding the Efilina to Tadamichi. The product is to be moved from Nepal to Italy, then to Seville, Spain. It will be distributed throughout Europe.

Several weeks later in Mexico City, Carlos Duarte and his cohorts discuss the new drug called “El Dragon.” It’s everywhere and they do not have a part in it. Everyone who takes the drug experiences a great euphoria. They can’t understand why they are not in on this and why no one invited them to this party!

Someone has sent Edna a sample. She pulls it out and notices the dragon. Then she remembers a meeting she had with Mig where she could see his dragon tattoo on his wrist.

Mig has a short meeting at Carlos’s office. “but I thought we were friends” says Carlos. Obviously, he wants in on the Efilina deal, but Mig doesn’t want him in on it and leaves.

At home, Mig discusses this big meeting that must have high security with Ishiro. The most powerful men in the world will be there.

In conclusion, we see ePig still alive, pouring himself a drink and reading the newspaper. Surprise, surprise, surprise!

Thanks Cynthia. I am still corn-fuzed on the Braulio extraction. We saw two vans initially, and never saw the second van again. We also saw Peli open what could be described as a human-sized doggy door in the back od a van and help Braulio crawl in. I could never spot that door again, and later Braulio was in a floor compartment. If they can't make this make sense, just do a La Rosa de Guadelupe Pffft ! And puff of smoke or something and let them reappear in the garage.

I could not identify the blue getaway car, but spotted a gold bowtie on the back which they must have overlooked, indicating Chevy. They block out all manufacturer emblems on the cars unless the automaker pays to have it exposed, apparently. Not a Corvette, which is a two seater though. Might have been a Camaro.

Onward: I wanted the last ePig scene to be him picking up his phone and opening his RING home security app and BAM...there is his bedroom cam and an eyefull for ePig. Carmen and Loco could uncurl his big piggy tail.

Edna has NO CLUE? Really? Nothing? Then if she is no smarter than that how did she get where she is? Stilettos and skin tight pants the other day on a crime scene? Nevermind.

Well, Dora has gone Rogue. There is real trouble brewing between her and Migster. I understand how desirable Adela is, but Miggy needs to come up for air and look around. Dora now sees Jorge as yet another threat to her BIG Secret. A secret which when revealed, should get her tortured and killed.

So is this the new kinder gentler Miggy style 'No Kill' underworld?

Epig is riddled with bullet holes, but they take him to Pet Supermarket, and in a couple of days he is up and around. Just needs new clothes?

Aw Heck is targeted too, but survives, but nothing below the waist works anymore. When all this sinks in he will wish he was dead.

Braulio is gutted and almost field dressed in the shower, but after a week in a coma on a ventilator, comes back around and is immediately ready for the great escape and a family reunion?

Recycling TN style?

BTW: Exactly why is this EpiHappy Dragon pill illegal? If it causes a happy time, is not addictive, and has no other health risks, why not just apply for FDA approval and sell it legally?

I understand that dealing with Carlos Duarte and company might actually be easier than the FDA and other Feds, but still, they don't use guns as much.

Cynthia: Good Job on the recap. Edna is really STUPID.

Kirby: Kenia needs to be exposed sooner or later as the traitor!

Cynthia, thank you for an excellent recap.

This story is becoming curiouser and curiouser. The writers seem to be trying to use up some time with Adela superdriving . She, Ishiro, and Peli have become the avengers.

Is Pig immortal? Was he originally a Highlander? Will they have to behead him to finally kill him ? I have had enough of him.
Mig is supposed to be suave like 007 , but , to me, he comes across as bland , dull, and emotionless .

Braulio has unbelievable recuperative powers. Back with the family and on the road to health and happiness .

I never would have received those Edna as Gloria from Ringo.

"I never would have received those Edna as Gloria from Ringo." Um...yeah, me too.

Yeppers, Susie amazing what a little makeup and wig will do for a girl.

Well, maybe clothes too. Or lack thereof. WOOF.

Gracias, Cynthia.

No surprise that the Pig still oinks; he can't die until the last episode.

I don't want to see Dora kill Jorge, but I have an awful feeling about what's going on with him now.

Now that we're into Ultimas Semanas, who's ready for another mystery novela de epoca? Or something with more character development than action?

Thanks so much for your comments everyone.

Kirby, you are right. It was not a Corvette because (duh!) a Corvette is only a 2 seater. Must have been a Camaro. Yeah it was pretty unbelievable that Braulio went from coma one day to driving away in an SUV with his family the next. Also, that would have been funny for ePig to have picked up his phone and seen Carmen and his right hand man going at it. LOL...

UA, "the pig still oinks," good one! Yeah they will save his awful death till the end.

Susanlynn, ePig is definitely the guy you love to hate. The actor is doing a good job. But I think I like real pigs a lot more than ePig.

Brilliant, Cynthia. You took a very confusing episode and gave us a plateful of details to ponder. Thank you.

Like the rest of you, I was astonished that it only took a couple of minutes after Braulio opened his eyes (on his own) from a days-long coma that he could walk on his own two feet, let alone crawl in and out of bins.

Shame on the guards for not inspecting the van themselves. They would have found Braulio. It would have been so much more clever for them to do it and find nothing, but they didn't. So, it was the guard's fault Braulio et al got away. Peligros and Ishiro really took a chance there. Since I expect both of them to survive to the Grand Fin, it wasn't much of a surprise they got away. At least my CrockPot Theory was only partially correct. Adela WAS in on the getaway. Clever girl--she must have been watching a lot of James Bond movies and similar genres. It was a bit elementary, though: JB-101.

About Dora--I think they have her splitting off from Miggy to go Rogue so that we can dislike her going against him. Then we won't be as disappointed when Mig finds out she hid Lambert's secret. We know she didn't actually participate, but in our narco tns, keeping a secret like this is treason. OTOH, she may truly believe that keeping Mig, Chisca and Jorge from finding out who arranged for their father's assassination was better for them. However, keeping Jorge in an infantile state, suffering traumas and trying to kill Adela (which nobody knows but us) is enough in my book for Dora to get some punishment besides humiliation and begging forgiveness.

What I don't understand is why Dora hasn't followed up on El Gato's whereabouts. He's really the key.

Thank you Anita. I think Dora's reason for keeping this secret from Mig and his siblings is because she knows she would be thrown out of the family for doing so and she would have NOTHING and no luxurious place to live. I am thinking that both Dora and Lamberto did this to Jorge and kept him this way so that he would never talk about what he had overheard his grandfather say. As for her going rogue, I am thinking that Mig is on to her. When he talks to her, he looks suspicious about everything she says. Ever since she lied to him about where she was, he does not trust her. That's why he is sending Peligros to accompany her to Cuidad Jimenez. If she wants to keep things quiet, then she needs to track down "el gato", so you are right on that one.
