El Dragón #73, 1/7/20: Miguel Carrying the Weight of the World on his Shoulders

Kenia continues to try to log into that laptop computer. Each time it says, “Access Denied.” She’s frustrated. She takes her own laptop and heads outside the office doors.

Meanwhile, the news keeps reporting about Efilina deaths and on the death of the Governor of Baja California.  As Miguel and Adela watch the news together. Adela asks, “Do we know for sure it is the Efilina?” Miguel just shakes his head as he watches in disbelief. He gets on the phone and calls Flaco. He asks Flaco to get all the details on all the people who have died taking the Efilina. As Miguel continues to wince and be affected by all that is going on, Adela asks him if he is okay. He shakes his head and tells her he really needs to be alone. It’s not personal nor does it have anything to do with her. He walks out.

Claudia’s friend is zipped up in a bodybag and Marcos starts asking questions. The questions comes up if the friend was an Efilina user. Claudia admits that her friend was using. Marcos walks away and tells Claudia he cannot reveal if he know if all these deaths were from Efilina. Claudia’s other guy friend consoles her. She asks him, “If you were addicted to Efilina, what would you do?” He says he would get off of it immediately. Claudia admits to him she is addicted.

Mauricio and Duarte are in Duarte’s office talking. Duarte picks up the newspaper and notices the headlines: “The Drug Efilina Cost Millions of Lives Across the World, Jesus Montero is one of Them.” The chit chat goes on another minute when Duarte’s secretary knocks at the door. He has a call from the President.

Carmen and ePig have arrived in the jungles of Nariño, Colombia. Pig introduces her to Jaramillo. Then he notices Jaramillo’s armed guerillas and asks what they are for. “Relax, they just work for me.” But Pig says, “Look in Mexico, there is a big price on my head, so I cannot be too careful here.” Then Jaramillo finally dismisses the armed thugs. Carmen is escorted to the house. ePig and Jaramillo discuss how to stop Miguel Garza and destroy him. They talk about how to unite together. Jaramillo likes the idea saying, “Very good, now we are talking the same language.”

The group gathers in a meeting at Garza headquarters. Flaco shares the news that all these mysterious blood deaths all had a common denominator, they all used Efilina. Miguel sigs and says, “We must act as quickly as possible.”

Carlos Duarte composes his resignation letter and says he has to do it to not cause further harm to the President or Mexico.

Hector and Ana are dressed up for a funeral when Claudia calls with the good news that Duarte has resigned. Hector is very happy to hear it. When Edna reads the article, she doesn’t seem to be to happy to hear it because right now she doesn’t have any real evidence against Duarte.

Note: Now I don’t know how Peligros and Ishiro got hold of all these dead bodies in their own makeshift morgue/autopsy unit.

So Peligros and Ishiro bring in the dead bodies for examination. All the dead have been using Efilina just prior to their deaths. They are determined to find the real cause of their deaths.

In the IT room at Garza headquarters, Kenia puts a miniature camera on the wall just above where Flaco sits. Kenia tells Jorge she is going to the bathroom, but she goes in there just to check up on her camera doing duty. Jimena comes in and tells Kenia she doesn’t feel safe at her house and will be staying in a hotel. She just can’t get over the feeling that she is being watched all the time. They say goodbye and Kenia pulls out her phone to do some more spying.

Varela has discovered the cause of the deaths. It wasn’t just because of the Efilina, it was also due to a genetic condition within their X Chromosome, that the victims had that caused the hemorrhaging.

Around the family dinner table at home, Miguel announces that the production of Efilina will be halted until they find the cause of the deaths. Both Adela and Chisca agree with Miguel’s decision. Then Dora opens her big mouth with her unwanted opinions. Finally Miguel has had enough and says to her, “Tell me how it is that an exotic dancer like yourself can know so much about business and finance?” Angrily, Miguel leaves the table. Dora wipes her tears with her napkin and also gets up and leaves. [This is not a happy family!]

Next morning, Adela wakes up but Miguel has already gotten up. He’s on a video call talking with Tadamichi. Tadamichi makes some kind of comment about Miguel being like a son to him. But Miguel has no patience with this and tells Tadamichi that he is not his father, just a business partner. This call does not end well and Tadamichi is angry.

Adela walks in and tells him that she knows he has not slept. She asks him to please not close himself off to her because then she cannot help him. Outside, he practices his martial arts and his memories flood his mind.

Jorge and Kenia are walking down the street when it appears that some guy rudely runs into Kenia from behind. It appears that he might have pickpocketed her, but instead there is a note that she pulls out and reads when she gets to the restroom. The note says, “The time is up, I need the information now!” Kenia continues to spy on Flaco. She recalls a conversation with him where he had a picture of a red sports car.

Adela and Peligros talk. She wishes she could do something to help Miguel. Then Peligros asks if she has heard from Carmen. She says no, not since ePig came for her.

Ishiro and Chisca talk in their bedroom. She asks if he can talk to Miguel in the Japanese way to help him out. But he explains to her that this Efilina thing is very complicated and involves a lot of nervous investors that he has to answer to. He then asks if she is feeling well and she says she is okay, she just needs some rest.

At Garza headquarters, Mig is having a meeting with Drenka and her father. They are angry when Mig asks them to stop the Efilina production for 48 hours. “There are 100 dead!” says Miguel. Drenka says, “We have always know that people are going to die from the stuff we sell them. What is the difference?” Drenka reiterates that this Efilina is cheap and easy to make. Finally they agree to a 48 hour production break.

Kenia comes out the restroom and goes through Flaco’s pockets. Not sure what Flaco was talking about but he was on a rant about how peanut butter does not go with chocolate. Finally he notices that Kenia was over with his stuff and asks, “What were you doing in my place?” She said she was just getting her potato chips. She finally gets up and says, “Not everything is about almonds and peanuts.”

Miguel and Jimena meet in his office. She tells him how his investors won’t stop calling. She advises him to close down some businesses. They cannot operate anything in the USA because Howard is watching. [Howard must also be the CIA and FBI]. Also Edna is watching. The problem is with the investors, if they get no return on their investment, they are going to want their money back. Miguel advises her that it is her job to make sure the investors stay on board. She protests and says something like, “You mean it’s my fault then if the investors pull out?” Then Miguel tells her that he hired her because she was the best in the area for her job. When he found her, she was at a dead end job she hated. Now here they are and she needs to figure out a way to keep the investors happy. He tells her, “Next time you come into my office, you’d better come with some good news and a solution, not with a problem.” “Fine” she says and walks out.

At Kenia’s place, she mixes up some juice with something for Jorge. Then she goes over to her laptop and has found a way to hack into Flaco’s stuff using the picture of the red car.

In Colombia, Carmen and Pig argue. She complains that she is in this place and Adela is enjoying herself. She wishes she could have yanked out Adela’s tongue already. Pig checks Carmen’s cell phone and there are no messages from Adela/Maira. He wonders what Miguel is up to.

Ishrio arrives home at Garza mansion and is greeted by Chisca. She says she has felt a little dizzy but wants to ask Ishiro something. She wants to know how he feels about her being pregnant? At first he looks very serious, but then he looks very happy about the possible prospect. They kiss at the thought of their having a baby together.

Kenia comes back to the office and has the password of ATILA for the computer that she is not supposed to have access to. She gets into the files.

Tadamichi calls Ishiro and tells him he wants to know all and have the lowdown on everything Miguel does.

Chisca walks into the room. She tells Ishiro that it was a false alarm. She is not pregnant. She asked him who he was on the phone with and he lies to her and says it was “no one. Just another chemist.”

At the office, Flaco discovers the breach in security. He goes to find Miguel and tell him.

In Colombia, ePig takes Carmen’s phone and sends Adela a text.

Miguel gathers the staff together for a meeting. All the cell phone are collected to find the breach in security. Flaco starts with Kenia’s phone and confirms it is her. He is very angry.

The bleeding from the eyes is so grotesque !!!!!

I hope:

* Michael stops producing Efilina permanently and rides off into the sunset with Adela to their private island.
* Edna finds out her sleazy husband is a rat and kicks him to the curb. Her one corrupt action in asking for Carlos's help with a judge shouldn't end her career. I really can't stand misogynistic men, so this is my most important hope.
* Epi is killed in a fierce shootout with Marcos.
* El Gato comes back and tells Adela all about Don Lamberto having his son and daughter in law assassinated and the writers don't just drop this side plot.

Wow, Miguel is blaming everyone but himself for the disaster with Efilina. He was the one to go gung-ho on its production and distribution before its in-depth research and testing could prove it safe.

Will Epi turn out to be the smart one?

Do they really make guns like the one Tacho carries?

Miguel is really an ungrateful SOB with Tadamichi

So Dora was an exotic dancer!

I can't wait to see Carlos Duarte brought down. I agree with Edna, just resigning isn't enough.

Kenia will, of course, get into Flaco's virgin computer, but I hope he was smart enough to put some decoy or trick information in there to give her false info as Miguel told him to do.
Why isn't Flaco's sixth sense picking up on Kenia's spying? I just don't get it. Especially, since he already had a clue she has been acting strangely. Ok, I typed this before I finished reading Cynthia's very detailed recap. Thank goodness she has been caught and by my hero Flaco and not poor Jorge!!!

Cynthia, 2:00 am in the morning?? You must be a late owl like myself.

Gracias, Cynthia. I also was unhappy with how Miguel treated Tadamichi.

I have a bad feeling that none of this will end well.

Something tells me Tadamachi will up the ante against Miguel: NEVER piss off somebody who's been there with you over the years.

Cynthia: Thank You so much. Much of this was hard to follow. As I was watching I asked the TV: "So Peli and Ishi are now doing forensic autopsies? How does that work?"

Lest we forget, Miggy-shithead stole the Ephilina to begin with.

Perfect Chisca , three weeks of boinking Ishiro and you are ready to start your litter already.

I believe they are trying to show us the “Good” side, which, mind you, is relative, of Mig as he wants to stop killing people with his Ephi but his money hungry millionaire associates want to keep the ball rolling. Where is the surprise there?

Ooo Ooo Honeymoon is fer sure over, that is O V E R with Jimena.

And with all these shenanigans, Nancy Adela Drew does not know she has been found out as she receives a text from the eSwine.

I was happy to see that Flaco found out Kenia as our obligatory cliffhanger. It appeared he had some method on his 'Virgin' laptop to show recent activity which will confirm it was her. Yes Victoria, her time is up. She can join her friends as earthworm food. Victoria, we saw her accessing the folders and plugging in a thumb drive on the side, so she got in, but what we have not seen for sure is whether she did anything with the thumb drive. So even having her phone will not stop her from delivering the info unless she is detained / killed. Which should be a certainty now with what Flaco discovered.

So Dora was a stripper / hooker. Thank you Miguel. They had strippers back THEN?

Given what we have seen thus far as pertains to Kenia, it makes sense to immediately detain her and keep someone with her at all times, even the bathroom. Interesting when Jimena and her were in the bathroom and Jimena said "I thought you had to pee?"

Take everything she has touched at Garza and start analyzing it. Do a thorough search of her living quarters and anything else she has access to. They should be able to find the locker key and the locker, in case she is hiding anything in it. Will Jorge to become a Deaf Mute again until she has been disposed of. Hmmm maybe have him kill her? That should straighten him out. :-)

Does anyone recognize the place where the lockers are that Kenia and Gary exchange notes?

Is it a real place?

Just curious..

Thank you, Cynthia! I can't believe you did all of this despite your bout with shingles; BRAVO to you!

I think everyone has the same feeling about Mig-shithead's reaction to the efi-dilemma. He's burning a lot of bridges and expecting others to go about business as usual. Seriously, Mig? And it was kind of annoying to hear Adela asking him if he was ok...repeatedly! With all his headaches, does she really expect him to be okay?

Though it was interesting to find out that Dora was an exotic dancer before she met Lamberto, I though it was in poor taste of Mig to throw that in her face, especially in front of all the family.

UA, I share your sentiments, I don't think this thing will end well for several of the characters. Will viewerville accept a happy ending for the Migster? I know I won't!

Thanks everyone!

Victoria: I think Miguel was blaming himself for the Efilina mess. That’s the impression I got, he just wanted everyone on board with him to find a solution and stop the production until he has some answers. He didn’t anticipate this happening at all. When he was talking to the Serbians, their stance was that people are going to die of drugs anyway and this is no time to start having scruples about this. But Miguel disagreed and felt responsible for all those deaths. That’s why he wanted to stop production for 48 hours. Oh, you asked about 2:00 in the morning. No, I was not up at that time. I watch Univision East here on the West Coast, so El Dragon comes on at 7:00 p.m. here. It took me about 2 hours to write the recap and I was all done by around 10:15 p.m. our time. I just put it on the blog schedule to upload at 11:00 my time which is 2:00 Eastern. I don’t stay up that late, I have a full time job to go to every morning. 

Flaco should have found out much sooner who was trying to hack into the virgin computer. These writers need to know more about IT stuff. We have systems here at my work that if you try to hack into someplace you aren’t supposed to be, the system tracks exactly to your desk computer. I used to work in the IT Security for our financial system.

Kirby, no one becomes a coroner able to do forensic autopsies overnight. I think you need to be a doctor and actually complete medical school. I was shaking my head over this one. And how the heck does he do a DNA analysis on the bodies being able to figure out the dead have a genetic problem with the Efilina? They have watched too many episodes of CSI.

UA, I agree Miguel was pretty nasty with Tadamichi. Tadamichi has always had Miguel’s back and it was so wrong for Miguel to behave that way.

I wonder what will happen with Chisca and Ishiro. On one hand he’s in love with Chisca and says he wants to have a baby with her. But on the phone, he was agreeing with Tadamichi to report to him on everything Miguel does. Unless he just agreed to that on the phone and isn’t really going to do it because he now is loyal to the Garza family.

Thanks Chickie! I agree, it was in poor taste for Miguel to throw Dora’s past in her face at the dinner table in front of the whole family. He sure is lashing out at everyone. I would accept a happy ending for Miguel. I like to see stories of repentance and redemption. I still want to see a wedding at the end of this series.

My shingles are doing better and I'm starting to feel better. But it's been a challenge because they are quite painful. Last couple days has been better and the pain is subsiding.

The sexiest man in This novela? Flaco..funny, charming, sardonic, ponytailed..Love him.. Next is Trejo..glasses and smart...Next Peligros..Bald, funny and forensic expert..lol......and, Epigmenio is kinda sexy......I agree Miguel just lost his best friend..Tadashi...bad move...Sayonara, Felicia to that friendship...

Only 7 more hours unless they double up.

I don't see a happy ending. Too little time to wrap things up in a nice, timely fashion.

Oh no Urban, an unconventional ending as you call them!!!! This one doesn't even deserve one of your Karmegeddon wrap-ups.

WTF are we getting so many of these lately???

Maybe I'll just start watching Mujeres Asesinas.

Cynthia , thank you so much the recap despite battling the shingles. Were you able to get meds? I think that you have to start them immediately after the shingles appear. Hope they disappear soon. I just got the second shi?ngles vaccine. It took an afternoon of making phone calls to find it.
I was babysitting last night , so I didn't get to see this episode. This novela has been a downer. ..so many corrupt people and no real galan. As for Mig, I will quote my mother, " pretty is as pretty does. "

Cynthia thank you so much for a detailed episode. Unimás my still doesn't have it uploaded yet in my area. But I think it's the first episode I can skip.

Thank you Susanlynn. Yes, I sought medical attention right away after I realized it was shingles. Only problem was when I discovered it, it was New Year's Eve, so I spent New Year's Day in Urgent Care. I am nearly finished with my medication for anti-virals.

Yes, this TN has been kind of a downer. Lots of action, but you never know where it's going. In "La Candidata" there was so much murder and the galan was shot dead at the end. Lots of bloodshed in that one too. I am just not sure where this one is going and if it's going to be a very sad ending. I hope they do not kill off Adela at the end. She has been a very likable character, but I'm afraid they are going to pull something like that on us. I will bet that is when we see Miguel cry and grieve, since he didn't cry about his first wife. It's just a guess, but I hope it does not happen. I'd really rather see a wedding.

Bravo, Cynthia. Through pain and discomfort you came through with a pretty detailed recap. Thand you. Despite its obvious "holes" in the script, thank you for pointing it all out. I retired 10 years ago and was never in IT, but even I couldn't believe that Kenia could waltz into the offices after hours with nobody around. (When does the cleaning crew come through--doesn't Naga generate any trash? I would think so with all the junk food Flaco tosses down.)

I think I saw Jorge's eyes open up and look at Kenia once while he was supposed to be drugged out by her. Maybe his eyes will be opened up to her betrayals and not mind losing her, or he could be super angry at Gary & Edna for forcing her to do this. It's obvious Kenia doesn't want to be the one that brings down Miggy & Co.

She was desperately trying to guess Flaco's password. That's why the image and the conversation about his car came back to her. She figured it out. It seemed as though she did get all the files copied to her thumbdrive. Hopefully she hasn't been able to pass it on and that she has been uncovered by Flaco.

One question--Why did Carmen and ePig have to leave in such a hurry (someone is looking to kill him, ok) and they leave their children behind. There must have been some reason why Viewerville was introduced to them. We never saw them again. Carmen seems to live a childless life--or so it seemed with her daily schedule and time spent with Maira.

I'm hereby admitting that I don't care what happens to Miguel anymore. If he goes down (honorably), I won't mourn. Oddly, I do care about Ishiro AND Chisca (surprised me), Peligros and Trejo. Jimena can be sacrificed. I'd like Dora to be able to live out her life in peace, maybe with Granny? Haha. Adela should hurry up and find Victor again. I have a feeling he didn't make his last appearance back there in the elevator.

Anita..oh...Adela ending up with Victor would be an interesting twist. I can't remember if we ever found out who was behind him getting to know Adela. Was he just trying to get info on Mig? I have had trouble following all the twists and turns and characters in this show. I don't see many happy endings . I do see lots of anvils dangling above many people.

Anita: Miguel is the Latino Michael Corleone: arrogant, smug, ignorant & causing millions of deaths due to his drug empire. Karma will get him one way or another. Let's not forget he PISSED off Tadamachi with the "You're only my business partner" shtick.

Thanks, Cynthia. Glad to hear you are feeling better.

Mig, everyone can't come from mobster royalty like you. Putting down Dora for one of her early job was just snitty. Then, you go and be rude to Tadamachi. Shame,

Will Ishiro choose love or the Yakuza brotherhood? Technically, his loyalty belongs to Tadamachi.
