Wednesday,

we found out the Governor ran for the office but lost, but guys call him that any way because he runs everything around there, as evidenced by him kidnapping Vargas right on the military base.

we learn Mr. M is the suit, working for Guapo, Ped got a bug in Copete's phone, Jones got a lock on M's phone and Ped is to meet him in Bogota to get his cut for letting him take the Merc meant for the Tijuana cartel, Copete cuts himself in for half.

Jorge spills to Mari how he isn't getting any love.

I wonder if Paula's doc on the take?

while watching Colombia DEA shorts on youtube, not only were they looking for subs but also the labs, they would pay $5000 to a snitch and raid them with helicopters, but there were 2 kinds of labs, the ones that turned the leaves into paste which they didn't care about, and the ones that turned the paste into commercial grade cocaine, these were more sophisticated requiring power to run all the microwaves, if you have noticed the banks of microwaves in the labs in our story.

that big steel bridge turns up a lot in Telemundo Colombian stories?

HALIMACANDY on the J.O.B. Tip....

doña2

Thanks, Halimacandy, for your account of last night's episode. You're right--Romelia is turning out to be every bit as nasty as the other nasties in this nasty novela. Actually, in some ways I'm glad that she fatally shot Eduardo. Not only is his suffering over, but Lucho's has intensified. Lucho really is extremely upset that Eduardo is dead. Who'd a thunk it?

Felina is one smart and devious woman. She sets up Regina to come to her "spa," not counting on her bringing Isabela with her. I'm not sure she'd have had Diego come if Regina had come by herself--I'd like to think that she would have. At any rate, having Diego come was a truly inspired move. As she anticipated/hoped, Braulio wasn't willing to kill Regina and Isabela with Diego present.

One of the lines I enjoyed most in the episode was Eleonora's saying to AG that she (Eleonora) had never done anything that would cause the death of her child. Hah! Wait 'til she finds out what kind of a monster her child is, and how much her mistreatment of him helped make him the psychopathic sadist and killer that he is.

Well, the only saving grace in this novela's being as bad as it is is that it's highly unlikely that there will be a season 3.

La dona 2. Juanita: Good one on no Season 3! Let's hope not! Can't they find a tn with some positive elements? For example, that the good guys and small children don't get murdered?

Thanks, deb, for your excellent comment. I am two episodes behind on commenting. Hope to catch up this weekend.

If anyone is interested enough besides novelera, deb and me, come along with us now. Here is the character list, so far.

The Special OpTeam, out to capture the head of the Cartel, El Guapo

Capitán Amalia Ortega
Coronel Gabriel Pedraza, Mexican operative, impersonated Avila until his cover was blown
Agente Bradley Jones, DEA agent on loan
Agente Paula Gaitán, got shot in shoulder, closet lesbian
Agente Rojas
Agente Arias, was wearing the red vest
Agente Díaz

The Civil Police & Justice System

General Álvaro López, seems to be authentically on the side of law & order
Major Ernesto Vargas, crooked from the very first episode, in league with Mr. M and has vested interest in keeping the drug trade going
Dr. Rios, the police doctor, is physically interested in Agente Gaitán
Helena, the prosecutor who must process all the arrested drug figures through the legal system

The Family

Mariana Ortega, apparently a university student, now expelled because Amalia paid for Wilson’s debt, thinking it was for Mariana’s tuition and now there’s no money for the school
Jorge Camacho, Amalia’s “bed-ridden” husband, recovering from a nasty cut during his kidnapping, ransom and bomb jacket cliffhanger
Matías Camacho, younger son of Amalia & Jorge
Lorenzo Camacho, older son of Amalia & Jorge
Wilson, Mariana’s dumb boyfriend, in debt to a loan shark, who was also into the drug business; arrested at the site of the payoff and remains in jail because he has priors

The Two Cartels, one Mexican, the other Colombian

Rodolfo Espinoza Roldán 'El Guapo,' head of the whole enchilada in Mexico, is the pass-through of drugs coming from Colombia and going to the U.S.
Ramiro Zúñiga 'El Doctor,' killed by police early, apparently led the drug refining operation in the hills
El Copete, selected to head the drug refining operations after El Doctor was killed
El Tuerto, passed over to head the drug refining operation after El Doctor was killed, may have some resentment toward El Copete
Manuel Mejía Montes 'El Señor M.,' has his own agenda and clients and was robbed of a shipment he can’t replace right away and is sweating it, under pressure from El Guapo. (This is the guy whose daughter goes to the same school as Ortega’s two sons.)
Cesar, also known as El Gobernador
Horacio, who is above Cesar in the organizational structure; apparently stays out of confrontations and lives comfortably in a big spread in the hills with a big pool
The Real Ávila, chosen by Horacio to assist El Copete, gets kidnapped, beaten and tortured a bit by the Special Op Team, then escapes, just in time to get blown up outside the “Mission Headquarters” in a warehouse.
Guerrero, seen at the side of El Guapo and is a trusted henchling

Note: When Amalia Ortega is in uniform and on duty, she will be known as Ortega; when she is in civvies and home, she will be known as Amalia.

Down by the riverside, Pedraza, alerted by text that he was surrounded, helped Copete get the merca out of danger. Vargas fails in his raid to intercept the merca for Sr. M (and glory for himself). Later he tells one of his the men who are in on the raid to get rid of the flour he had prepared as a substitute, maybe to his auntie. Copete remains a bit suspicious of Pedraza, but lets it go. Copete directs them to hide what’s on the truck and burn the rest. He learns the federal police are onto them.

Ortega goes through some solitary maneuvers and approaches the drug facility. Tuerto is guarding it while Copete is otherwise occupied. He’s alerted by their guard dog and takes off after whoever it was. He ends up with nothing. Ortega hid herself in a slimy pond, covered with leaves.

Vargas is furious and takes it out on the General (what hutzpah). The General, in turn, is furious at Ortega that she and Pedraza are in Tumaco and he didn’t know about it. Ortega claims she’s still trying to get hard evidence. This was supposed to be a secret op, how did Vargas learn of it. The Gen says Vargas knows everything. The only thing Vargas doesn’t know is the mission to take down El Guapo. She is ordered to share everything with Vargas, even though she doesn’t trust Vargas. The Gen asks that she trust him, the Gen.

When Pedraza and Ortega get together, they agree, with flirtatious smiles they still have more to investigate. Ortega will figure out a way to derail Vargas.

Copete and Cesar (the guy who Pedraza first confronted as Avila) have words. Copete learns Vargas was leading the op to confiscate his merca. Copete wants his head. Cesar says his hands are tied because the men he has on the inside are being watched.

In a three-way phone chat among Ortega, the Gen and Vargas, the latter reams out Ortega for ruining the operation. He accuses her of going rogue. They are supposed to be a team. So, Ortega shares what she knows (knowing Vargas already knows the same). He contributes that El Gobernador (who is the Cesar character) and El Tuerto are allies. Ortega then asks him about el Sr. M (Eme). Vargas pretends he doesn’t know who that is. Then Ortega announces to the Gen, mainly for Vargas’ benefit, that she doesn’t trust Vargas. The Gen stops it from escalating though Ortega gets in the last word—if anything should happen to her or her team, it will be Vargas who is responsible. (I guess that puts Vargas between a rock and a hard place, trying to play both sides.)

In his office, Mr. Suit, now known to us as El Sr. M, gets a text from Vargas letting him know the feds are sniffing around for him. Mr. Eme is more concerned with the lost shipment. How is it to be replaced. Vargas tells him to forget it, unless he wants the police to grab him.

El Guapo, wearing classy sunglasses has his underling, Guerrero call Mr. Eme. He gives Guapo the bad news about the shipment. Guapo tells him to fix it.

Jorge (why is he still in bed) tells Mariana her boyfriend Wilson has priors. It complicates things. Mariana and Jorge’s subsequent conversation touches on his lack of sex with Amalia, that’s the only reason he’s been going outside of marriage to seek physical release. Mariana tucks that information away somewhere. She may go for offering to be Amalia’s substitute (TBD).

Wednesday 2/19 (expanded) Part 2 of 2
Ortega, Pedraza and Café owner put up the cartels org chart and see how they are interconnected. El Copete is apparently an ex-Farq guerrilla, Cesar is the guy they call El Gobernador (see deb’s comment above) and Mr. Eme is the new middleman.

Mr. Eme is on the phone with Copete to find out what actually happened to the shipment. Mr. Eme gets the story then asks for a favor (which I didn’t understand).

Vargas gets “taken” right out of the police barracks and brought to Copete, who works him over. Vargas notes that Pedraza is among Copete’s crew. Pedraza goes off to pee, but mixes some chemicals and it produces some toxic fumes. Everyone scurries around. Pedraza cuts Vargas loose. Vargas climbs into the back of the pick-up and waits. Copete calls El Gobernador and tells him they’ll have to close down for awhile (apparently not very long).

Meanwhile, the real Avila is still tied up. As Jones sets up his bed, Avila cops something off the floor.

Pedraza arrives back at the café-Ortega’s quarters with Vargas, who is in bad shape.

Agente Paula Gaitán and Dr. Rios are out on a date having dinner. Paula disavows being Dr. Rios’ girlfriend to an acquaintance who stops by their table. Apparently (based on the same musical theme playing), Mr. Eme is getting a drink at the bar. He calls Copete and asks to speak to Avila/Pedraza. Pedraza says it’s a pleasure to speak to him. Later on Rios calls Paula on it’s not ok to be “out” in public, but it’s ok behind closed doors. Paula gets out of the car protesting it’s not like that. (We’ll have to wait and see where this relationship goes.)

Back at the warehouse that serves as mission headquarters, the team has intercepted the call. Mr. Eme is ordering Avila to have the merca diverted to him in Mexico because he needs it for El Guapo, who won’t wait. They negotiate the terms of the transfer. Mr. Eme will send Pedraza his commission and Pedraza will have Copete send him the merca.

Pedraza and Ortega haul Vargas away in the pick-up truck Ortega originally stole (not sure where they are taking him or why, but of course this leads to the episode’s cliffhanger). She has to climb in with Vargas in the back of the pick-up, covered with a tarp. Pedraza drives up to a cartel “checkpoint” where Tuerto is in charge. One of the henchies heads for the rear of the truck. Ortega cocks her gun just in case.

Thursday 2/20, Part 1 of 3

Note: When Amalia Ortega is in uniform and on duty, she will be known as Ortega; when she is in civvies and home, she will be known as Amalia.

Luckily for the three, Vargas, Ortega and Pedraza, Copete drives up in time to make Tuerto stand down, vouching for Avila/Pedraza. Tuerto is none too happy. At a small airfield, Vargas is loaded into an ambulance while the Gen talks to Ortega. She tells the Gen they have a bead on Mr. Eme and have laid down plans to capture him.

Jones brings the Real Avila some food and tries to persuade him to cough up information. As soon as Jones leaves, he takes the tool he picked up off the floor, unscrews the bedpost and frees his manacled hand. He escapes through a vent near the ceiling. Jones later discovers he’s gone.

Vargas checks himself out of the police infirmary despite bruised ribs and his face rearranged.

Ortega and Pedraza present their case to Helena, the fiscal (DA). They are pretty sure Mr. Eme will show up to make the exchange—cash (Ped’s commission) for the drugs (which will be used as bait). All they need is a warrant to arrest Mr. Eme. When Helena learns the actual drugs are in Tumaco, she says she needs more than a suspicion, but agrees that she “gets it,” they arrest a “guy” and later they will identify him as Mr. Eme? Correct. She agrees to let them do it.

We see the op go down in an underground parking garage, but the “guy” arrested is not the one we know as Mr. Eme. It’s either completely coincidental or he’s a decoy because Mr. Eme is sitting calmly in his car telling someone how important this is. Later we see Mr. Eme and Vargas talking. They agree to keep up this farce until Pedraza and Ortega fall.

On the Family Side: Lorenzo, the older Camacho son has gotten himself into a little trouble at school. He lunges and aggressively punches someone, but doesn’t realize until later that it was his brother, Mattias. Lorenzo runs off.

Ortega takes the “guy” back to their Mission Headquarters for questioning and begs Helena to let them delay bringing him to the police station. Ortega reminds her of what happened to El Doctor. The “guy” won’t talk. He wants his lawyer. One of the agents lets Ortega know that the guy is clean, no priors. Pedraza wants 5 min. with him. Ortega snaps no way and hands him her cell phone before going back in. (Hmm. Nothing but a plot propeller here.)

The Real Avila is on the loose. He calls Cabo. (I don’t think we’ve seen him yet.) Then he speaks to Don Horacio. Avila promises to take care of the problem, i.e. Pedraza and he’s off. Meanwhile Horacio takes a call from Copete. Mission Control is listening and suddenly the call is cut short. Jones says they were discovered. Copete stamps on the cell phone.

PACIFICO
Thursday 2/20, Part 2 of 3

Cesar shows Copete and Tuerto current photos and background on Pedraza and Ortega. Cesar says they will have to stop their drug-making operation asap. Copete and Tuerto have differing opinions. Cesar sides with Copete, probably angering Tuerto even more.

Agente Arias brings the “guy’s” cell phone to Mission Control and they quickly hack into it. Ortega tells the “guy” he’s being accused of narco-trafficking—a 30-year jail term. Picking up on the plot propeller, Pedraza answers a call coming in to Ortega. It’s Jorge who gets pissed it’s a man answering. Pedraza says he’ll pass on the message about Lorenzo. Ortega gets ready to leave but Jones alerts them to what Avila is up to. They track a drone to their very own warehouse. Avila is confident he will prevail, but instead, Jones explodes the drone over top of the 12 attackers. Susana, the red-haired TV reporter is immediately on the scene to indicate there are at least 10 dead (so 2 got away). The Gen arrives and makes a statement to the Press that this appears to be a war between narcos. Based on this bit of misinformation, Tuerto and Cesar deduce the Gen is connected to the Ortega op.

Amalia arrives at the school and heads directly to Lorenzo. Ped has driven her and sits in the car watching as the mothering instinct kicks in. When she gets home she walks in on a cozy, but not compromising scene with Mariana and Jorge. Amalia says Lore has some type of PTSD. Against Jorge’s wishes, she takes a call. It’s Pedraza asking how the kids are. Amalia says she can’t talk. Jorge hears her use Colonel with her caller. He wants to know if this is the same one who answered her phone earlier. She shakes her head just a bit and leaves, wordlessly.

The “guy” has been taken in for processing. Ortega is meeting with Pedraza and Jones. He notes “The Look” and the imperceptible smile Pedraza and Ortega exchange. When Ortega is called out by Helena, Jones asks Ped what is going on between the two of them. Ped doesn’t actually say nothing, but sidesteps an answer. Helena tells Ortgega they are letting the “guy” go, no evidence, not even the money he was supposed to have on him. Ortega knows that if they let him go, they’ll never catch up with him again.

Ortega is called up before the Gen. He reams her out for letting this one fish slip through their fingers on a technicality. She interjects that at least they now have a name and a face. Not enough. The Gen runs down all her mis-steps, first El Doctor, Tumaco, then Avila, the bomb explosion and now this. He tells her she’s failing. Helena finds her in the bathroom upset and crying, burbling that it’s all her fault. She comforts her and gives her the name of the police psychologist. She’s sure she’ll be of help.

PACIFICO
Thursday 2/20, Part 3 of 3

A lawyer has just gotten the “guy” out of detention when he’s re-detained. Apparently the name he gave when booked and his fingerprints don’t match what is in the computer system. His fingerprints belong to a Hector Pulido. He is returned to detention quietly. The lawyer reports back to Mr. Eme. The latter worries he’ll cave in this bait and switch caper. The lawyer isn’t. Hector needs the money and even torture won’t make him open his mouth. He can relax. Hector has no idea why he was put up to this caper.

The Gen catches Amelia on her way out of the building and apologizes there and while taking her home for how he treated her. He knows she’s going through some rough patches. All this time, Tuerto has been keeping an eye on them from a blue SUV. He follows them, bringing up the rear of the security detail, sure he’ll have a chance to kill her. Back in the black SUV, the Gen is wondering if maybe he’s put too much on Amalia’s shoulders. She bristles, accusing him of gender discrimination by suggesting women can’t do as good a job professionally when they have a family. The Gen protests he didn’t mean that. Well, Amalia says, he said it and that’s probably what he was thinking. Tuerto looses the opportunity to get in a clean shot when he has to stop at an intersection and other cars get in the way as she exits the car.

Vargas is seen writing a note when he hears a click and a gun pointed at his head. He’s being kidnapped again. This time he is brought to someone calling himself Capital Vera. He’s apparently a hit man and Vargas is hiring him to assassinate Pedraza. He hands Vera a photo of Pedraza and half the cash. He gets other half when the deed is done. He also gets hotel pass-keys, one for Pedraza’s room and one for himself next door. Oh, and he wants a clean job.

Friday's episode was eaten into by boxing. It cut off the last few minutes of the episode on my DVR. I'll see if I can watch it on TM site and get it up sometime tomorrow. Even though it's so embedded in narco-trafficking, I'm really getting into it. I hope others are, too (besides novelera and deb).

Thanks, Halimacandy, for hanging in there. I hadn't thought about Romelia's nieces being in jeopardy because she shot Eduardo, but you might well be right.

And yes, Lucho really confronted his Mommy Dearest with the monster she has created. I can't wait for José Luis to catch on.

So who kidnapped Noelia at the end of the episode?

La dona 2. I hesitate to say that arcoiris kidnapped Noelia because it looked as if 2 men were involved, and it looked as if arco was down to 1 since Nando's brother (Pablo?) had refused to participate in any murders. My money is on Braulio, but I could be wrong. Maybe Pablo thinks Lucho will only frighten but not kill Noelia? Nah.

PACIFICO

Operación Pacifico – Friday 2/21/20
Part 1 of 2

Pedraza meets with Vargas, who wants to know how the loss of the shipment came about. Ped half-jokes that until a few days ago they thought it was a corrupt official, a red-haired white guy. Vargas laughs it off, but he still needs to know what happened so he can continue his investigation. Ped says it’s complicated. They wondered if the shipment was already lost before or was it after. Vargas asks that bygones be bygones and invites him out for a drink later on.

Amalia meets with the psychologist mainly about Lorenzo and how she feels responsible. They were witness to the attempt on her life.

The hit men enter Pedraza’s hotel room, but they only kill the pillows. Ped was sleeping in the tub. He gets the drop on two of them and is wrestling with the third when Jones appears out of nowhere and shoots one of the three.

Jorge and Amalia are talking about what else—family relationships and how they can be fixed when Pedraza calls. She answers and has to leave to go to the crime scene. Ped is sure El Guapo ordered the hit. (He’s wrong, of course.) Agente Arias identifies all the assassins as ex-Police. The long-haired suspect won’t talk. All he knows is that the boss (Capitan Vera) contracted them for the job and the one who gave Vera the order was in the Police. Then the phone belonging to Vera rings. Jones is holding it. He answers it but says nothing while the others watch. We see that it is Vargas on the other end. When he doesn’t hear a voice, he takes his phone apart and kills it.

Wilson has been freed and reunites with Mariana. She’s happy to see him until she learns he needs a lot more money to pay off the bribes to let him go. Instead of going to Amalia for another loan, he plans to set up a pretend kidnapping of Mariana for ransom. She objects, revealing that her sister is Police. He hauls off and smacks her accusing her of betraying him to her and getting him arrested. He ties her up. Mariana tells Wilson her sister will never pay a ransom. Instead, she will probably mount an op and Wilson will end up dead. Apparently this only makes him angrier.

Operación Pacifico – Friday 2/21/20
Part 2 of 2

Amalia and Jorge have a joint session with the psychologist. It doesn’t go well for either of them. She takes a call from the General while still in the session and Jorge motions to the psychologist, see what he means? The Gen says he’ll fill her in later. Amalia stops at the University and persuades the dean not to expel Mariana. She calls her sister, but it goes to voice mail.

Susana is at the TV offices connecting the dots of her story on her story board. There’s one missing piece, she says, as she sticks a sketch of Amalia Ortega on the board. They don’t know who she is, but whoever she is, she is behind something very big.

Amalia arrives at Mission Headquarters to check on progress into the phones and identities of the culprits. She’s brought Pedraza a blanket since he’s moved into Avila’s suite. He greets her with only a towel wrapped around his waist. She tries not to look and becomes Ortega, then she accidentally gets an eyeful when he removes the towel to put on his pants. She’d been telling him that they will get to interrogate Pulido that day—he and Jones will. They bring in Pulido and the two play good cop/bad cop until it gets a little rough and Helena puts a stop to it. He still hasn’t talked. He’s taken away. Ped regrets cutting the interrogation short without nailing down a connection to El Guapo. Jones thinks the link might be to someone else.

Paula tells Pedraza the good-looking ex-Police dead guy reported to Vargas for 10 years. Ped is shown that photo of himself with handwriting on the back that Vargas gave Cap. Vera for the hit. Ped wants a handwriting comparison of the note and Vargas. Then he calls Vargas and accepts the invitation to have that drink.

Ortega and the Gen watch Susana’s TV reporting on Pulido. The Gen asks Ortega what she thinks. She thinks he’s not the guy they are looking for, Mr. Eme, but he might be a bit player. She also thinks they had the wool pulled over their eyes by someone who wanted them to think Pulido was the big enchilada.

Here’s where my DVR cut off and I couldn’t find it on Telemundo’s website today.
