DAYTIME TNs...y MAS!! (#1): Week of May 25, 2020

Good Day, Caraymates!

Welcome to pg. 1 of Daytime TNs! This page is being reinstated to give those who are watching daytime TNs on any channel a place to discuss TNs aired prior to 7PM.  If you would like to contribute a recap or just some highlights for a daytime TN, I’m sure there are those who watch the same TN that would appreciate it.

Virtual friendships are what keep some of us going, especially during this time of social isolation; so please feel free to also use this page as a forum to keep in  touch, discuss strolls down the Caray! Caray! memory lane, or anything else that is of interest to the patio.

Please remember that ANY daytime or previous novela can be discussed and everyone is welcome to join in the conversation. Friendly reminder to PLEASE put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for. (You can shorten the title to one word, i.e., “Vecina”; “Amores”)

Good evening & Happy Memorial Day!

Good evening, Steve. Thanks for posting a comment. Hope your Memorial Day was a happy and safe one.

LQNPA

Rgv Chickie, thank you for putting up this page! I certainly agree that keeping in touch is a good thing.

I am currently watching La Que No Podía Amar, and I just love it. It makes me laugh, quite a lot in fact.

No, it's not a comedy, but it is incredibly hokey, enough so as to make me laugh often. But it's also very sweet... and hokey. The Caray recaps from its original run are a real hoot, my thanks to the recappers and commenters.

For those who don't know what it's about, it's about Ana Brenda Contreras. She cries, she smiles, she cries, she shows off her dimples, she cries, she shows a little cleavage, she cries and she cries and she cries. Poor Ana. But she looks really good doing whatever she's doing.

LQNPA also stars Jorge Salinas and Jose Ron, which is why I could not watch the evening program, whatever it's called, that has these two guys. I would be totally confused about what they were up to and why they weren't after Ana.

I record LQNPA and watch it later. I'm also recording, but not currently watching, Mi Corazon Es Tuyo (also with Jorge Salinas; the guy gets around) and Como Tú No Hay Dos.

LQNPA is on for two hours and I have a hard time watching more than two hours in a day. I had been watching MCET, and I'll get back to it and watch the recordings when LQNPA ends. It's good to have options, and we don't always have such an abundance of watchable TNs as we have now.

I hope everybody is well, staying safe, and dealing with the pandemic as best you can. I think the TNs help.

LA VECINA Part 1 of 2

Andyyy!! What a joy to “hear” from you and read your comment! I’m not watching any of the TNs you are watching, but I am into “La Vecina” which is airing on Unimás at 2:00 pm. I started watching it a bit late, but it’s still early enough for others to join in. Susanlynn, I know you were asking about what to watch; I highly recommend this TN. Here’s a synopsis of what has happened so far.

Sara Granados (Esmeralda Pimentel) moved to San Gaspar with her Uncle Simón (Pierre Angelo) and a friend, Bruno (Mauricio Abularach) after she was fired from her job at a hotel. She is trained in the culinary arts, but, in San Gaspar, she is hired at Conotrol where she meets Antonio Andrade (Juan Diego Covarrubias who looks much better and is more appealing than his character in “Me Declaro Culpable”). Antonio was sent to San Gaspar by his boss, Sr. Uribe (Carlos Bracho) to take charge of the company branch and investigate the theft of gasoline. Sara and Antonio also live in the same apartment complex and are now “vecinos” (neighbors). The two protags incidentally end up going on some type of trip where the two are forced to drive together. Something happens to the vehicle so they have an over- nighter where sparks fly, stars cross….whatever... Later, Sara quits her job and finds a job at a restaurant owned by Pedro Arango (Luis Gatica who looks as evil as ever) and his very young wife, Laura.

Antonio postponed his wedding to Isabel (Natalia Guerrero) when he was sent to San Gaspar. His parents weren’t happy because they really want Antonio to marry Natalia who comes from a filthy rich family. Antonio, who knows that he is now in luurve with Sara, is torn between two lovers, but is trying his best to stay loyal to Natalia whom he has had a relationship with for several years.

Natalia is a snobbish, somewhat whiny rich girl who is trying to cling to Antonio…except when Ricardo is around (Alfredo Gatica who, for the first time that I have seen, is so clean cut that he looks like a very tall young boy in a suit).

Ricardo is Antonio’s nemesis (but Antonio, of course, is clueless). He is very ambitious and wants to get rich either by obtaining the vice-presidency at Conotrol (at all costs) or marrying Natalia. He has been succeeding quite well at getting Natalia’s attention (lip locks and all!) AND sabotaging Antonio’s progress at San Gaspar (so that Antonio can remain in San Gaspar and keep away from Natalia.)

Uncle Simón is a fascinating character. He is an engineer who has been engaging in several attempts to make a rocket. He and Bruno (his cohort) are also building up a produce distribution company to provide better prices for the local farmers than what Pedro is offering. Simón is smitten with Elvira who works as a receptionist at Conotrol. She is also smitten with Simón and has suddenly developed an interest in engineering.

LA VECINA Part 2 of 2

Pedro Aranjo is an evil criminal who engages in several criminal activities. He is responsible for the theft of gasoline from Conotrol (where he has an informant named Nelson). He is also taking advantage of local farmers since he has a produce distribution company and is not happy that Simon is getting into his business. In addition to that, a few days ago, he had his minions give Antonio a “scare” because Antonio dropped Pedro’s restaurant as the caterer for the company. Now Antonio has a couple of body guards following him around. Pedro's most recent evil-doing is having a very innocent Carlos (a liquor sales rep who was in town to provide merchandise for Pedro’s restaurant and happened to be friendly with Laura) beaten and murdered. His mistake was forcing the sales rep to drink A LOT of liquor when Laura, Sara and Antonio know that Carlos does not drink. Pedro is also a wife abuser. Sara has seen bruises on Laura’s arm, but Laura gave her some lame excuse. Because of her “friendship” with Carlos, Laura now has bruises on the side of her face…but she is suspecting that Pedro had something to do with Carlos’s “accident.” Bruno better watch out because he is also smitten with Laura, but has been trying to stay away from her because she is a married woman.

If you like Arturo Carmona in “Te Doy la Vida,” you’ll like him here too. He is a very apt police commander who is set on proving that Pedro is a criminal. He also coaches a soccer team who plays against Padre Vicente Granados’s (Alejandro Ibarra, also Sara's uncle) team.

Another character--Cheo is Sara’s former boyfriend who refuses to “let her go.” He suspects that Antonio and Sara have something going so he is adamant that he will win Sara back.

That’s the gist of this TN so far. If your interested and have questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you for setting up this pAtio Table for the week, Rgv Chick. I'm on grandma daycare duty this week - my only risky non-social- distancing behavior.

I need to set up PATM to record since I cannot record UniMas until we get some new DVR equipment and who knows when that will be... Comcast can't figure it out. So I finally had my next door neighbor do a test, and had my sister do a test, they both can record UniMas just fine, so it is not a network issue, after all. Once I tell this to Comcast, they will have to replace our equipment that we've only had since last September. 🙄 Argh... more time spent on the phone with their tech support call center in the Philippines. Okay, rant over.

ANDY BANDA. -- as always, it is so nice (and fun!) to see you post. I simply cracked up over this, " For those who don't know what it's about, it's about Ana Brenda Contreras. She cries, she smiles, she cries, she shows off her dimples, she cries, she shows a little cleavage, she cries and she cries and she cries. Poor Ana. But she looks really good doing whatever she's doing. "
LOL!!! Calling it like you see it. LOL. It is always fun to have a guy's perspective on telenovelas. 😊

Double thank you, RGV.

Doris--Nice to see you are checking in here. Wasn't sure what to say, but Andy weighing in encouraged me.

Andy--It's fun to see you here. After having slogged through all of LQNPA myself, you've managed to reduce the synopsis to two lines. Buen Hecho. BTW--for us ladies, we got to watch the whip wielding Ro-Hellio cry, smile, show his dimples, take his black hat off, put it on, and turn into a love besotted bowl of jelly, all while running a huge ranching operation. The rest of his transformation will take time (too much time).

Anyway, I bought the chopped up DVD version and it left out my favorite one-second scene. Ana Paula has crawled on top of the bed because she wanted Ro-Hellio to embrace her. He's hesitant at first, then she nestles right into his shoulder. Then she falls asleep. He can't believe his good luck and **stares up to heaven and says, Gracias, twice**--those two gracias were left out. I saved the episode which ran again just so I could watch it a couple more times.

I also developed an obsession for JS's lips, so perfectly carved. I started comparing them to other galans, and so far no other male actor has come close to his.

More JS--it's so odd to see him as Rogelio--a force to be reckoned with, lonely, angry, resentful, envious and then turn to Mi Corazon and see him as an overwhelmed father in a rather light comedy--and NOW to watch him as the malevolent adoptive father with a hidden past in Te Doy La Vida.

Truly forgettable was his role in Que Bonito Amor. We all thought he was too old for Danna Garcia, which kind of spoiled things and besides that, he can't really sing. But I loved seeing him in a charro suit, almost as much as I did seeing Christian de la Fuente in a charro suit in Amor Bravio. I remember his saying it was so foreign to him, being from Chile, but he finally got used to it.

I thought the same of his role in Un Poquito Tuyo--too old for it, but then he did have nearly adult kids. But he certainly looked good.

I think I watched the whole FELS long after I'd seen LQNPA, so I could excuse him in that silly role. I've seen Sexo, Pudor y Lagrimas but even more powerful is La Otra Familia.

LQNPA

I'm disappointed in Rogelio (Jorge Salinas) for reverting so quickly to his mean-tempered ways after the blow-up with Ana Paula (as delicious a Cupcake as has ever graced a telenovela). Whatever, this thing has too many episodes to resolve anything in a reasonable amount of time.

La Vecina, etc.

Esmeralda Pimental and, especially, Sugey Abrego (I hope she gets a decent amount of screen time). This might be worth a look.
But I haven't seen it yet. I tuned in at 3 PM today only to see the start of Nosotros los guapos.
I'll try again tomorrow at 2 PM. And I'll set the DVR to record it because I might just forget to watch. What the heck, the DVR is only recording five hours a day, no big deal.     8-p

I think I'm just getting into "data hoarding." Unless there are no really watchable TNs in the next six months or so I will never be able to catch up. I still haven't found time to watch the ending to Hotel de los secretos. When I finally do watch I will have to start quite a few episodes earlier so as to refresh my memory as to what was what at that point.

Oy, caray!

LQNPA

Andy--.....But Wait! There's MORE. Too many side stories they tried to tie into the characters, but that's nothing new. After watching Cupcake in Sortilegio, I wasn't sure how she was going to make the transition--but it's not hard to see what a beautiful woman she is. She was just LOST in PASL--but it could have had a lot to do with whom she was paired up with.

HOTEL
Well worth watching how they tie up all (or almost all) the loose ends. Do it now! Then you can concentrate on the others.

day & night

Anita, nice to see you here. I had meant to direct the comment about Hotel to you, as I remember that you asked me how I liked the final episode back when. But I hadn't seen it.

In fact, I think this was the second time you watched Hotel. Anyway, these stations never give us a break to allow us to catch up, or to digest what we just watched. The very next night after Hotel ended they started in with Blue Demon, which I didn't think I would have any interest in. After all, based on a star of lucha libre, set some time around 1960? Meh.

But I watched the first episode and I got hooked. It opened in a vecindad, similar to the one in Sin tu mirada, with a whole gaggle of interesting people including a six foot tall transvestite (yeah, a little bit like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, just a little).

And also our beautiful Cupcake with dimples. So between the two of them I was hooked.   :-)
Cupcake was a nurse in this one too, but with a much cuter costume, er, uniform. White dress, cute double breasted beige vest, and the nurse's cap!

(Only later did I find out that Unimas was playing us dirty. They didn't show the entire telenovela, just the second half, more or less. I kept having a hard time figuring out where some characters were coming from, but by then it was too late, I was hooked.)

Anyway, no Hotel. When I finally do get around to it, I will definitely let you know. But right now I'm just enjoying, mostly, my Cupcake fix with LQNPA and I don't want to fall behind. I'm hooked.
