When I looked at the TyM page, no one had commented, so I wrote another "Not a Recap." When I went to post it, I saw that SpanProf had gotten the conversation started. There's some overlap, but I'll just post what I wrote.
I'm still not sure what I think about Lobo Ramirez. Apparently my initial distrust was somewhat unfounded. He didn't come to Houston looking for Reme and Connie. He was traded to the Houston baseball team (though since he's apparently a super star, why would the Miami team trade him?). In tonight's episode, he has chosen Plutarco to be his divorce lawyer, but at first they have a hard time coming to any agreement about what he should ask for and what he should be willing to give to his ex-wife. Finally, Plutarco recommends an arrangement where the money will go only to the daughters, not to Lobo's ex-wife. I'm not sure how different that was from some of Plutarco's earlier proposals, but this one Lobo agreed to.
Later in the episode, Remedios is in Lobo's house doing I'm not sure what as his personal assistant. She hears loud arguing between Lobo and his ex-wife. The ex-wife accuses him of infidelities and other nastiness. They then come into the kitchen, where Reme is. The ex-wife (whose name I clearly don't remember) makes a number of snide remarks to Reme, who explains that she's simply Lobo's personal assistant. The wife sneeringly says that yes, that's the way they all started. I've got to admit that, as much as I distrusted Lobo, his ex-wife seems every bit the perra he claims she is.
After her experience with Lobo and his ex-wife, Reme suggests to Connie that perhaps they should be a bit more cautious about Lobo. However, that doesn't stop Connie from going out to dinner with him. Apparently he has asked her to meet him at the Houston team's empty baseball diamond. At first, she's puzzled. No one seems to be there. Then the ballfield's lights go on and Lobo dramatically appears. He tells her he wants her to see his world. He shows her how he pitches, and that before he throws the ball he looks at first base, and then at second, and then... When he looks in the direction of third base, we see that there's a table set for dinner! At one point, presumably after they've eaten, he tells her that when there are disagreements, they are settled in the vestidor, which I assume is the team's locker room. They go there, and he starts making moves on her. She responds at first, but then says no, she's not mentally or physically prepared. He tells her not to worry; he reaches into his locker and pulls out half a dozen or so condoms.
Much of the episode involved Lobo in one way or another, but Ale had another talk with Emiliano. She tells him that when she was a young girl, she didn't like having to dress the way her mother wanted her to, or to wear bracelets. In fact, it made her angry that she had no choice because she was born a girl. She felt as if she belonged nowhere. Emiliano tells her that it's hard to say what's normal and what's not normal, and notions of normality change over time. The important thing is to be authentic. He finally suggests to her that she talk to a psychologist he knows who specializes in these kinds of issues, and he gives her the psychologist's card. It's sounding increasingly as if Ale has transgender issues.
And, of course, there's Luis. He promises Plutarco that he's finally going to tell Jimena the truth, and he asks Plutarco to stay for moral support. Luis then tells Jimena that he missed work because...he went to Juan's funeral in Chicago! Plutarco points a finger at him in dismay. Jimena sees Plutarco do this, and quick-thinking Luis explains that Plutarco was indicating that Juan had shot himself. And idiot Jimena winds up believing him yet again.
Jueves
At the law office Lobo and Plutarco have a meeting about his issues with his ex while Connie, Jimena and Remedios look into his office through some sort of window. Unless this is one of those police windows that the people inside can’t see the ones outside this is very unprofessional.
Lobo doesn’t want to give the ex any of the money from his new contract with the Houston team since he signed it after they were already divorced. At first Lobo isn’t happy with Plu’s ideas, but is happy when it’s suggested they set up some sort of entity where the money would only go to his daughters when they are of age.
Emiliano has a wonderful talk with Ale. [I think I like Chocarro better in this novela than any other one I’ve seen him in.] He tells her he hated his skinny body when he was younger, lifted too many weights and even injured himself. He suggests she see a psychologist specializing in gender dysphoria (although he doesn’t call it that).
Guess we’ve seen the last of Hector, Reme’s old boyfriend. Ramiro bought the classic car from him, fixed it up and gave it to Remedios.
Lobo sends Connie a dinner invitation inside a box with a baseball.
Reme brings some things to Lobo’s house and has an encounter with his ex, Hilda. Hilda seems to think that Reme is a new woman in his life, even though she repeatedly tries to tell this woman she’s an assistant, not a girlfriend. Hilda rags on Lobo for not seeing the girls for quite a while and her having to beg him for money. At this point I’m not sure who is closer to the truth. Lobo seems like a playboy, but Hilda seems like a harpy.
Pablo is picking up Danny from school and Fernando walks up and almost accuses him of stalking him.
Luis tells Plutarco he can’t do the two women thing any longer. He’s a wreck. When Jimena comes into the room, Luis tells Plu to stay for his “confession”. But then he just lies about a friend who died in Chicago and he’ll have to attend the funeral. Plutarco looks on in disgust.
Connie is leaving for her date and Reme warns her about Lobo. Said date is at the ballpark. Lobo has a very impressive come on, with a table set up close to third base, champagne and all. Reme is looking on from the stands, but then Joey, the bodyguard, throws her out.
Plu gets a call from Gloria. [You were right, Juanita. Not Lorena, a similar brunette.]
So in one scene Fernando is upset with Pablo for risking his job by being at the school and the next they’re someplace talking and Pablo has some tequila. An old homophobe breaks a beer bottle and walks up to them. He ends up just walking out. [No one called the cops on this lout?]
Reme tries on Ale’s large Ace bandage while Ale is sleeping. She begins to cry and then tells Max what’s going on. Max agrees to talk with her because Ale is going through a “Mom is wrong about everything” phase.
Danny keeps being a total brat to his father and even to Emiliano.
Lobo takes Connie into the locker room and shows her he’s prepared with a goodly quantity of condoms.
Thanks so much, novelera, for this skillful recap. It's both complete and concise, a marvellous combination!
Juanita, when before I started typing my recap of Thursday's show in Word, I checked Caray and no one had done one. We must have been on the same wavelength because later I saw we both had posted. It's interesting that while I was previewing my recap, there still was nothing there. But the next morning I saw that yours appeared before mine. And the times at the bottom are two seconds apart!
Last night there was no episode when I selected my DVR recording, rather reports on the protests about the killing of George Floyd. I don't know if anyone else saw an episode. SpanProf, you seemed to be alluding to something about the "funeral", so I may have to hope for a recap. I don't have the fastest internet and, when I want to watch a whole TN episode, I go to the library and log on. But libraries are closed.
Yes, novelera, we were both writing and posting at almost the same time. I think the time stamp on my post is two minutes before yours. (Great minds, and all that :-) )
And last night, I turned on the TV a few minutes before 9 pm. Cennet was just finishing up when it suddenly disappeared and was replaced by live coverage of the demonstrations in downtown Oakland. To my surprise, that coverage continued until at least 9:30 pm, even though there was just about nothing to add to what was said in the opening few minutes. Telemundo just kept showing the same few scenes from Oakland and the commenters kept repeating pretty much the same thing over and over again. Grrrr.
It sounds as if SpanProf (who I think is on Central time) did get to see last night's episode.
I caught up yesterday. I see SpanProf got us started for Friday’s show. Here’s some more details. If you have any questions, let me know.
Connie stops Lobo, she’s not ready. Game called on account of rain! Connie tells Reme all about it the next morning. She wants to get together but Reme will be busy working for Lobo.
Plutarco shows up at Connie’s. He has a short convo with Connie’s mom. She tells him Connie is still sleeping, she was out late last night.
Luis is at Aurora’s when he gets a call from Jimena. Conveniently, Aurora is waiting for him in the shower. Jimena is at the airport waiting for Luis! She wants to support him and will not let him go to Chicago alone. (Yes, SpanProf, no Houston-Chicago flights?) He makes lame excuses to both women, talks his way out of it again and he’s off to Chicago with Jimena.
Reme is giving Pablo a virtual tour of Lobo’s place. The pièce de résistance is the luxurious bathroom with a Jacuzzi ready to use. Pablo says what are you waiting for—get in! Lobo will be gone for a while so why not?
Plu is still at Connie’s and she’s ticked he shows up whenever. She needs a heads up. They argue, the kids come in. Same old stuff. Later, Plu tries to talk Connie out of moving to Miami.
Reme is relaxing in the jacuzzi when Lobo arrives. He takes it as a green light to get busy. No, no, says Reme. Too late, he’s dropped trou. Not sure if Reme’s horrified or impressed, maybe a bit of both. She covers herself apologizes and makes it clear she’s not having sex with him. He apologizes for misinterpreting the situation. They agree to forget the incident.
Max awkwardly tries to get Ale to open up but she politely deflects and quickly leaves. Reme comes home. She doesn’t give Max details on the jacuzzi incident but wonders how to warn Connie about Lobo. Max says it’s best to be straightforward with her.
Lobo arrives at Connie’s. Martin is excited to meet him. Connie tries to get rid of him. Reme shows up to warn Connie that Lobo is a mujeriego—uh oh—Lobo gets Reme aside and reminds her they were supposed to forget the incident and don’t ruin it with Connie. Lobo ends up inviting everyone to the VIP box for his first game in Houston. In fact, he’s going to dedicate the game to them.

Ale is at Emiliano’s. He shows her his family pics. His family is in Mexico and it’s better that way. He confides in her that his relationship with his family, especially his mom, was/is strained. He left home when he was young. Ale likes talking to him but warns him not to push it. Plu shows up and gets into the convo, telling Ale that Emilano was scrawny like one of those “air dancers”. He did hit the gym and “beefed up” on top but he still had a flat rear, like they flattened him with a skillet. (Weird English translation here: it was like he was on the drug Noassitall.) Ale goes to use the bathroom and Emiliano tells Plu his relationship with Ale is going well.
Plu says they should order a pizza. Emiliano wants wings. They should watch the Jaguars’ game. Plu asks if Emiliano knows that Reme is Lobo’s new assistant? He does and mentions that Lobo met the two women in Miami. Connie never told this to Plu.
Lobo has left for the game and now Pablo is at Connie’s. He’s complaining about his dad. Pedro is lost without his wife, can’t cook, can’t do laundry. Pablo wants to know more about Connie’s relationship with Lobo. Why hasn’t she taken advantage of her 100 days? She’s taking it slow with Lobo. When Connie leaves the room, Pablo wants to know if Reme took advantage of the jacuzzi. She shuts him down.
Meanwhile in Chicago, Jimena is practicing her condolences in front of a mirror. Should she speak in Spanish or English? Luis is in usual panic mode. He’s not feeling well, maybe they shouldn’t go. No way, they came all the way here! When Jimena goes to get him some soup, Luis calls a bunch of local funeral homes looking for wakes for anyone named Juan.
Ale, Plu and Emiliano are watching the pre-game show. Lobo is interviewed. He’s dedicating the game to someone special. Ale notices her mom and godmother are on TV! Plu wonders why they are there and he, as Lobo's lawyer, wasn’t invited. Emiliano does the 2+2 and tells Plu it’s clear—Lobo’s trying to steal Connie from him. Plu says, how do you know he’s not trying to steal Reme? Now, Ale is the only one watching the game. The guys are arguing, trying to figure out who Lobo wants.
Back in Chigago, Jimena and Luis walk into the wake. Everyone is dressed in white, their heads bowed down. Jimena wonders if they are in the right place, it’s like a laundry commercial. There is a crying woman draped over the casket. Jimena delivers her line in English: In the name of our family, Casas-Sosa, our deepest condolences. Luis adds in Spanish: Juan was like a brother to me, I’m really sorry. The woman lifts her head, she’s Asian! A quick look around and everyone is Asian! Jimena wants to know why everyone at Juan from Oaxaca’s wake is Chinese! The deceased's name is Huang Yuanyong! She’s ready to put Luis in the casket with Huang!
And we are out.

¡Muchísimas gracias, dondi356! You've saved the day from Telemundo's bungling! Those of us on Pacific time saw boring, repetitive coverage of the Oakland demonstration against police brutality in George Floyd's death. I admit that that issue is far more important than this telenovela (or any telenovela). However, as someone who watched Telemundo on Friday night for half an hour furious that they had nothing to add to what they said in the first 3 minutes and hoping they'd switch to the novela, I'm most grateful for your superb recap.
Thanks a million, dondi. As Juanita said, the whole hour here in Pacific Time was about the demonstrations. I think this was a decision of the local affiliate, Channel 48 on my TV. I recorded the episode and didn't turn on the TV until after 10 PM. I like to record and then skip commercials. I kept moving forward in the recording hoping they'd join the Telemundo network, but they never did. As Juanita said, this is important news.
I'm just grateful to get a recap of what I missed.
Well, we know Luis will squirm out of this Asian funeral dilemma. Of course he will. I have given up hope the jerk will be revealed until the last week.
So I guess Lobo just tries to jump the bones of anything female anywhere near him. I find this believable. I have read and or seen sports bios where 20 something guys who get millions of dollars morph into entitled brats.
SpanProf, while you wonder about Luis' heart attack, I'm here wondering what's with Jimena's "pastel de tres leches?" too much of the cake. Will we have a plot line about the cake? Or what?
mwendwaE: Good point about the tres leches cake Jimena brings to every event. She brought one to Remedios, I forget why, and they proceeded to get into the tequila she also brought. When Reme sipped that "gift" she made a face and muttered something about its being cheap. There isn't much worse than really cheap tequila. I like Patron.
ps. Sorry about no accent marks. I'm typing this on a computer that rejects my efforts to key in the accent marks.
