Ale wants to tell Max and Danny about her feeling that she's really a boy. She also wants to talk to others who are familiar with this issue.
A very drunk Jimena moans to Aurora about how she and Luis had been planning a second honeymoon and had planned to have another Luisito. Aurora tells her she needs to have just one objective in mind: to crush Luis (aplastar a Luis). Jimena recalls how Luis was always missing for the important things.
She thanks Aurora for listening to her.
Fernando comes with Frida to see Pablo. He makes it seem like a spur of the moment decision.
Plutarco and Emiliano tell Connie and Reme that they tried many times to get Luis to tell Jimena the truth. Later, Connie and Reme, lying down in a double bed, pledge to be supportive of each other always. They realize uncomfortably that they need to go see Jimena.
The drunken Jimena returns home and tells Max he has to leave. But then she sits down on the couch next to him, tells him to look at her, and asks, "How could he (Luis) leave all this?"
Aurora berates Luis for asking for "100 días" rather than a divorce. The quick-thinking liar tells her that if he asked for a divorce all at once, the mentally ill Jimena might do something crazy. He asks Aurora to let him stay here with her. She tells him he has to separate from Jimena not for 100 days but forever. As Luis is sitting at the table talking to Aurora, Plutarco calls to alert him to the fact that Connie and Reme know about his situation and will tell Jimena.
Danny wants Mariana to come with him to the fiesta. She doesn't want to. He says she should forget about her ex and start a new life. Besides, they may let him be the DJ at the fiesta. This obviously impresses her. She agrees to think about it. Danny then asks Ale whether she has told Lucia about what she's been going through. Ale says no, she doesn't know how Lucia will respond. Will she be freaked or will she understand? Danny asks Ale to convince Lucia to let him be the DJ.
Max comes to see Ramiro. Ramiro tells him that he needs to come back, that ever since he left, the house has been in disorder. [No comment]
Isabel assures Fernando that she's trying to be more understanding and reasonable. Fernando tells her that Frida adores Pablo.
Ale tells Max about her issues. He seems unfazed until he learns that Emiliano was with her when she saw the psychologist. "Why didn't you ask me?" he says. Ale tells him that she was afraid of how he might react. "How Emiliano would react isn't so important to me, but you're my father," she tells him. Max responds that it isn't important to him if she's a man or wants to be a man. He just wants her to be happy.
Mariana and Danny are in his room listening to music. She asks, "Do you and Ale have something going?" He assures her that they do not, that they've known each other since childhood and are like siblings. Mariana says that she thinks Ale is great. Mariana says she doesn't care if Ale is attracted to girls. Danny says he doesn't want to talk about Ale. He tells Mariana that he likes girls, especially one, and he kisses her. The kiss goes on for a while, but she finally pulls away and tells him that her problem is Austin (her ex?), and that she's not ready to have a serious relationship.
Jimena calls Aurora and tells her that the pregnancy test was negative, but she has returned to Luis. He came by the house and they wound up making love. He told her that he loved her more. Aurora is devastated.
Reme, Emiliano, Connie, and Plutarco are together at Connie and Plutarco's house. The doorbell rings. It's Aurora. She knows that they're friends of Jimena and Luis, and she wants them to know who she is. "I am Aurora, the other woman, Luis's other woman. He had hidden me in Monterey all these years, hidden from you, from his family, and from his perfect life with Jimena. Now I'm in a country I don't know, with a son, my life destroyed by a liar." Connie says that she and Reme just found out. Reme adds that Jimena too had known nothing. Aurora tells them, "Yesterday, he told me he was going to leave her and return to me. And you know where he is now? Reconciled with Jimena in her house." Aurora is aware that bigamy is a crime, and that in Texas Luis could go to prison. But she didn't come to see them to get help with that. "I just want you to know what kind of friend you have."
SpanProf: Good Morning from the Alamo City. I'm looking forward to seeing how Roxanne ups the ante even further against her own brother.
Thank you, Juanita, for the great recap. The episode took a few serious turns.
Not defending Luis here but the legal aspects of his situation are confusing to me. How can he go to jail? Clearly, he’s an adulterer but he's also been called a bigamist. Has it been established that Luis married Aurora? He proposed to her but there was no ceremony. Is common law marriage recognized in Texas or Mexico? The word mujer can mean woman or wife and even the characters seem confused with its usage and meaning in this storyline.
It’s complicated: whose responsibility is it to tell Jimena? Aurora is doing the same thing as the friends, keeping the truth from Jimena. She’s still angling to hold onto Luis? Why would either woman want him after this?
Maybe the therapist recommended Ale to a transgender group? Ale mentioned she decided to talk with others experiencing the same things. I was happy that she is finally speaking to Max. Their scenes were touching.
Not giving him a total pass, but Ramiro is an old-fashioned guy having a hard time dealing with the changes happening in his family. Anyway, he’s been in Max’s corner from the beginning. And whatever his motivations, I’m glad he reminded Max to be present for Ale.

Thanks so much, Juanita, for the terrific and very thorough recap. Yep, lots was going on last night. I also thought they cut something. They just sort of mentioned in passing that Jimena was in the hospital. And then that she was not pregnant. Did she have to go there for alcohol poisoning? No accident was mentioned. And, of course, you don't check into the hospital for a pregnancy test.
Luis does NOT deserve to father more children to disappoint.
That was a very well-done scene by Aurora with the four amigos. Also, they sort of glossed over Remedios and Connie forgiving their guys the fact that they hid Luis' behavior from them.
Dondi, I didn't get the impression that Aurora was angling to have Jimena know the truth so she'd end up with Luis. It rather seemed to me that this last betrayal, having sex with Jimena after just having told her the 100 days was to sort of have time to talk Jimena off the ledge, was the final straw for her. [Sorry about that awfully constructed sentence. Not in the mood to redo it!]
SpanProf, yes, I remember that, when Mariana was first introduced, she just showed up at the school and had mentioned coming to Houston from Austin. She also alluded to a not very loving mother. It was an offhand remark about how her mother was probably at some country club and not that concerned that Mariana had gone to Houston. Also, where is Mariana supposed to be living? They haven't shown Fernando's place that I can recall. Oh well, who ever expects TNs to have airtight plots. It seems possible Mariana was introduced to have Danny get over the one who was after his father (forgot her name already!). I also think they may have that abuser show up in Houston for a PSA about abusive boyfriends.
Dondi, I thought the same thing. You could say that he's been in a common-law marriage with Aurora and I suppose that could make it a bigamy charge. But he's only legally married to Jimena. We've even seen some wedding pictures!
I like how quickly Isabel came around. I was afraid they were going with the bitter phase for quite a while. And she stuck up for Fernando in that faculty meeting. I think she's realized that the more people that love her child the better.
MANY thanks, SpanProf, dondi356, and novelera, for your great comments, including setting me straight about Austin. It occurred to me that Mariana might have been referring to the city, but I wasn't at all sure. And I too wondered about whether Luis's situation with Aurora legally counted as bigamy.
Thanks too for pointing out all the loose ends in the plot. I wasn't sure whether I just didn't understand some things that would have made the plot seem more together. I'm glad to know that this time the plot holes weren't because of my problems with the Spanish.
I really loved Ale's response to Max when he asked, somewhat hurt, why she had involved Emiliano and not Max.
novelera, when Fernando thanks Isabel for supporting him at the faculty hearing, she rather emphatically claims that she was not supporting him, she was standing up against injustice. But yes, when I saw the scene I too was pleased that she was supporting him!
Arrgh, I've got a Zoom session in a few minutes so I'd better end this now.
What a nightmare. Everyone is left troubled by Aurora’s appearance at the get together. The task ahead is difficult. The ladies will deal with Jimena and the men will talk to Luis yet again. Reme and Emiliano leave together.
Dani is still trying to talk Mariana into going to the party. She says the less he knows about her the better. She doesn’t want to get his hopes up for more. Too late, says Dani. Mariana agrees to the party.
Did I miss something? Luis has brought Jimena (who we don’t see) back home from the hospital, surprising Max. Max is still not feeling well. Apparently, Max didn’t even know Connie and Reme took her to the hospital. Maybe Telemundo had mercy on us and decided to spare us a Jimena hospital scene. Anyway, Max gets on Luis about coming clean.
At Reme’s, Emiliano and Reme discuss the Luis situation. Emiliano is leaving. They kiss. He’ll talk to her tomorrow. They kiss. She’ll walk him to the door. They kiss. They start walking in the wrong direction and you know where this is going—right to the bedroom.
Connie and Plu talk. We’re not perfect but there has been no betrayal in our marriage. She asks Plu, are you hiding anything from me? He assures her he is not. Plu’s thinking on a grand scale, he’s forgetting about Marcelo. He says goodnight and leaves.
Talk about a walk of shame. Emiliano left the helmets in the kitchen. Now Emilano and Reme must make their way through Ramiro and Ale at the breakfast table. No details please!
Monica is back at Connie’s with suitcases. She claims Pedro has asked for a divorce.
Marlene calls Connie and ropes her in on chaperoning the party. Somehow it turns into Reme and Emiliano going too. There is a 90s retro theme.
Plu and Emilano fill Luis in on Aurora. Luis will tell Jimena today. Where have we heard that before?
Connie calls Jimena to talk but Jimena tells her she’s back with Luis. A night of make up sex. Jime hangs up on Connie. Later, Jime is in for a shock when Luis tells her the 100 days are still in effect.
Dani tells Lucia that Ale will go to the party if he DJs. Lucia will see about it.
Somehow Ramiro ends up taking care of very sick Max at Jimena’s house. Ramiro has to put up with Jimena’s nonsense. Ramiro gets a call from Monica. She needs to talk to someone. Once Max is feeling better, they can talk.
Luis returns to Aurora’s and finds a note: we are gone for good, don’t look for us, I don’t want to see you ever again. You’re the worst thing that has happened to me. I’m getting a lawyer and you’ll be out on the street like the dog you are.
I think Pablo spends way too much time at the school. He wants to invite Fer to dinner but he has to chaperone. I wasn’t clear if Pablo invited himself to the party.
Monica and Ramiro have their talk over food and wine. He gives her good advice, there are always ups and downs. At least you have each other. You need to discover new things together. She asks him why he never married again. It hurt him too much to lose his wife and he never wanted to feel that pain again. Maybe he wasn’t brave enough.
Max is finally feeling better. He thanks Jimena. She mentions while he was delirious, he said something about Luis having another woman. Just then Luis walks in. Jimena lights into him.
Luis has something to tell her. He didn’t want to worry her but after the accident, he started having bad headaches and mental lapses. The doctors found a mass in his brain. Max can’t believe what he’s hearing and, of course, Jimena swallows it hook, line and sinker. Max tries to extricate himself from the situation. He doesn’t know what to say except Luis is an enigma to science.
I guess the 90s party is over. Did anyone see it?
What was that convo between Emiliano and Dani? It had something to do with being brave like Rosa Parks and having a transgender friend. What did I miss?
Connie and Plu return home and they are feeling frisky. While Plu goes to the bathroom, Connie texts Marcelo that’s she’s getting back with her husband. Uh, oh. Plu’s phone is on the table and it rings. Connie sends another text. Ring. Plu returns and Connie confronts him--You’re Marcelo?
And we are out.
dondi356
My subtitles were wacky last night and I can't always rely on my knowledge of Spanish to get things straight. Sorry if I was in error with any of the details.
I was a little (ok, a lot) confused on what happened between Emiliano and Dani. To me that convo came out of nowhere, it lacked context, as if something happened we did not see.
Additionally, I thought that Connie and Plu were returning from somewhere. The party? Once again, I can't be 100% sure.
Was there an invisible party?
I know, SpanProf, 90s is retro? It was just yesterday!
dondi356
Thanks so much for the fine recap, Dondi, and above and beyond the call of duty with wacky subtitles.
I was sort of glad I didn't mention putting up a recap because I thought the episode was sub-par.
And, unless Telemundo is up to its old tricks of cutting scenes already in the can, not showing that party was very, very lame. We've had discussions about whether Ale would go with Lucía; the four amigos all chaperoning; a long boring scene where Connie tries on supposed 90's clothing that Reme held onto, etc., etc. y nada.
Instead of the party we got a worthless scene of Mónica and Ramiro talking about marriage. Was Zurita guaranteed a certain number of lines in order to appear?
The most promising match for Ramiro is Vicki. The details are fuzzy, but I remember a scene where she was jumping up and down with enthusiasm when something about Ramiro remarrying was mentioned.
Connie and Plu definitely were returning from their chaperone duties. Plu had on patterned pants and a leather jacket and Connie had on a black wig and a fringed suede jacket.
What was the point of Max clutching his stomach and sweating with a fever? He didn't go to the hospital as I expected and seems to have recovered enough to be thrown out by Luis. Max should have pretended to start to tell Jimena about receiving cash for lying for Luis at that point.
So I guess Luis is going to get away with it forever. I've lost faith in the repetitive times Connie and Remedios have said they're going to talk to Jimena.
I was surprised by Aurora leaving town. Maybe we won't see her again until she presses charges against him.
Sorry for coming so late to the party. This has been an awful day. It's only now that I've had a chance to look at TyM.
Wow, dondi, what a magnificent recap! Lots of detail and a good deal of humor. Loved it! And I'm glad you were puzzled about the discussion between Emiliano and Danny. I too had NO idea where that was coming from.
And I am puzzled as well about the function of Max's rather, um, unpleasant illness.
And yes, I too am trying to get my head around the idea of the 90s being retro.
I read that the production was suspended before the premiere due to COVID-19 and maybe they never filmed the scenes in question?
miércoles
At her house Connie rips Plutarco to shreds for the Marcelo trick he played on her. [And she still doesn’t know he slept with Gloria; will that ever come out?] She orders him to leave.
Still no scenes of the high school party, but we learn something when Danny comes home, still in his 90s costume. He says he spent the night at Ale’s because she needed comforting. He says that someone (of course we know who was behind this) threw dirty water on Ale and Lucía and then flour.
Luis shows up at Emiliano’s apartment, first to whine about losing Aurora and then to ask Emiliano to back him up because he told Jimena Emi had recommended a specialist for his brain tumor.
Max enters the kitchen just as Ale is pretending to Ramiro that everything is fine. He blurts out something about the night before.
At the law office, when Connie hears that it was Luis not a doctor who said he had a brain tumor, she tells Jimena she has something to tell her. But, of course, her father arrives and this doesn’t happen AGAIN!
Max, Emiliano, Remedios, Fernando, Isabel and the insufferable Marlene are talking to Marta, the tone-deaf principal about what happened to Ale and Lucía at the party. Marlene first blames it on Emi and Reme for smooching instead of chaperoning. And then goes on to say that Lucía was perfect until she started studying with Ale. Remedios explodes and leaves the room.
Connie is having her father review the financials of the firm, I think, in preparation for splitting the partnership. Plu is aghast when she tells him.
Timing is everything. Fausto, the speed dating guy who left town before, is back and contacts Connie on Flirter. Remedios is in favor of her seeing him and I believe it’s going to happen.
Darío shows up to see Jimena and finds Luis there. Luis has the gall to be jealous. Darío stammers something about needing legal advice and Luis says he should go to the office for advice and gives him two business cards of Jimena’s.
Reme and Pablo are brainstorming in a restaurant about how Reme can start to earn a living. When the waiter points out the place’s new owner, it turns out to be Pablo’s ex, José Miguel.
Susi and Jimena come home and are talking about Nico leaving school. Susi says she’s not surprised he left because he wasn’t very smart. [This surprises me. I thought Susi really liked Nico. ]
Luis gets salty with Jimena about Darío and uses that as a pretext for wanting 100 days.
Plutarco tells Emi that he’s worn out. He’s pretty sure he’s going to just let Connie go. Emi reminds him that the two children will keep them united for the rest of their lives.
We get a PSA from Pablo when he talks with Fernando after José Miguel leaves the booth. He says that being gay isn’t just about sex. Gay people fall in love.
Lucía and Ale talk in the park. Ale tells her that the dreams she just talked about, graduating, going to prom and being the prom queen will not happen if she’s involved with Ale. Ale tells her the strong feelings she has for her, but she says it’s best that they just let it go.
Emi shows up with roses and finds out Max has moved back in.
Aurora didn’t go back to Monterrey. She’s come to see Jimena. When Jimena babbles about the brain tumor, Aurora shouts at her that it’s lies. What Luis has is this…holding up a picture of HER family with Luis and Nico.
Thank you for another great recap, novelera.
Well the ish hits the fan tonight.
Sin vergüenza Luis had the nerve to ask Emiliano to help with his “medical” problem! Wonder if Luis is thinking he can somehow fake his death to get out of this. Ha! Jimena and Aurora might kill him first.
Max is back home. Fausto returns. Jose Miguel shows up. What’s the point? I’m beginning to find this show tiring. Anxious to see últimas semanas.
dondi356
Wonderful recap, novelera. Sorry I couldn't get to it until now. It's been one of those days.
I'll put up something about tonight's episode later.
Aurora shows Jimena the photo of her family: Aurora, Nico, and Luis, "mi Gordo." Jimena screams at her to shut up. Luis appears, and Jimena demands that he tell her that what Aurora is saying isn't true. Luis stands there like a deer in the headlights. Finally he says he met Aurora during one of his trips to Monterey while Jimena was pregnant. He began to have feelings for her, and he gave in (se dio). He fell in love with her. He finally says, "I wanted to be happy with you both." An enraged Jimena orders him out of her house.
Emiliano and Reme are talking at her house when Max enters the room. Emiliano is surprised that Max is living there. Reme tells him it's just temporary. She wanted to tell him, but it was vey sudden. Max was sleeping in the street like a homeless person. Emiliano observes that Max is always going to be Ale's father, and Reme is always going to be there for Max. And that's the problem. The logical thing, he says, would be for her to divorce Max. He asks her why she doesn't do that. Max comes back into the room talking about food.
Connie meets up with Fausto at a bar. She asks him what's new. He tells her he's getting married the following week, and tonight is his despedida de soltero. Connie assumes he's planning to get together with his male buddies, as is the usual way to celebrate, but he informs her that she is going to be his farewell to bachelorhood. A shocked Connie calls him an idiot and quickly makes for the door. However, she crashes into someone else who is also moving in a hurry, and she's knocked over. She looks up and sees that the person she's just crashed into is Roger Montero. She assures him she's fine, tells him that he saved her (from Fausto), and though he invites her to stay, she leaves.
One of the more interesting scenes of tonight's episode involves Ramiro's response to learning that his granddaughter is transgender. He can't understand or accept the idea. "She's not a woman because she feels like a man?? No! She's a woman, and that's that!" He asks Reme and the others what kind of game they're playing. Reme assures him it's not a game, they're very serious. Ramiro insists that Ale can't feel like a man because she's a woman. Max explains that outside, she's a woman, but inside, she's not. Ramiro is puzzled and, finally, angry. "You guys are to blame," he tells them." You [Max] because you're not the man needed in this house. And you [Emiliano], for coming to destroy my family. And you [Reme], for going with both of them. You are degenerates, and you're going to burn in hell." Emiliano starts to talk about Ale as "she" but then changes to "he" -- "he is going to discover who he is, with or without us." Ramiro shakes his head. "I can't understand such things."
Emiliano leaves, saying he doesn't want to be "the other." Reme tells her father, "I know it's hard to understand. But Ale needs you." Ramiro says to her that they've been together through good times and bad. But this--I can't understand. "I can understand that Ale likes women, but...to see her as a man, no. That goes too far (eso se rebasa)." Reme replies, "I only ask that you accept her. Accept him."
Aurora and Jimena are talking after Luis leaves the house. Aurora tells Jimena that she understands her frustration, her desperation. She has felt it, too. Aurora says she wanted to hate Jimena, but she realized that they're both victims. Jimena tells her coldly that they're not friends. "You know where the door is."
Luis comes moaning to Plutarco: Jimena knows everything. Plutarco says it's better that way. Luis lets him know he has nowhere to spend the night.
Danny and Ale are talking in his room. He asks whether she broke off with Lucia. She says she didn't want Lucia to be hurt. She broke off with her to protect her. Danny asks: "Toprotect her or to protect yourself?"
Pablo, Fernando, and Pablo's ex, José Miguel, are sitting in a cafe talking. JM refers to Fernando as Ferni and then asks whether he can call him that. Fernando replies that his name is Fernando. Pablo and José Miguel have a lot to talk about. Fernando decides it's time to leave. JM wants Fernando to agree to come by the diner the next day. There will be a sampling of new foods. JM wants an impartial opinion. Fernando agrees and leaves.
Connie returns home after her non-date with Fausto and her crashing into Roger. Mónica wants to talk with her, but Connie just wants to go to bed. OK, says Mónica, but you have a surprise in the kitchen. The surprise is a distraught Jimena, who announces "He has another family. I gave him my life." Connie asks whether she'd like some tea. "What I want is vengeance," replies Jimena. She feels doubly betrayed, by Luis and by her ex-friend Aurora.
Connie was on the phone with Reme when she learned that Jimena was in her kitchen. So of course Reme comes over. Connie, Reme, and Jimena share one moderately large bed. Connie has given Jimena some tranquilizers. Jimena is babbling about a curse in her family, especially a curse on the marriages of the women in her family. She also tells them that she almost got married when she was 16, to the love of her life. Before saying more, she suddenly falls asleep. Connie and Reme then talk softly about what to do. Suddenly, Jimena rises up, points at them, and accuses them of being damned harpies. "You knew and didn't tell me." They explain that they tried to tell her. Jimena tells them that they're worse than Aurora. She says she's leaving, but then she collapses, unconscious from the calmantes Connie had given her.
In the morning, Jimena seems physically much better, but emotionally drained. Connie suggests that she take the day off. Jimena insists she's perfectly fine (in the same voice she used to talk about her perfect family). Connie tells her she's in denial, but Jimena insists she's fine and wants to work.
At Connie's office, Plutarco tells her that the valuation seemed fine with him. "Whatever you want," he says. There's a knock on the door. It's Roger Montero, apologizing for coming by without an appointment. He just wanted to know how she was after last night's blow. Plutarco looks up with interest. Connie tells Roger it's fine, Plutarco was just leaving. The woman who works in the law office (whose name I don't remember) says she'll bring Plutarco the valuation and also the new keys to the office. Apparently Connie had the locks changed. I didn't follow all this. Were the keys the woman would bring just those to Plutarco's office but not Connie's? Sorry, it's midnight and I'm played out. So too the novela. The episode ended here.
