Lobo calls Connie and leaves a message: "Don't ignore me." Connie texts Marcelo for advice!
Aurora brings Luis breakfast in bed (though the knife comes perilously close to his throat, either really or in her imagination). She says she's very excited about her wedding and the fact that Jimena has agreed to be her matron of honor.
Connie informs Plutarco that his client, Lobo, is in fact dishonest, even a criminal. She hands him a large envelope documenting what she says.
Lucia has breakfast with Ale and her family. She says that her mother hates her and cares only that Lucia gets perfect grades and is beautiful. Reme starts to say that Marlene really loves Lucia, but then Marlene arrives. She demands that Lucia leave immediately and not spend a single minute more in "this house." She tells Reme that the only reason she didn't come to get Lucia last night is that she didn't want to come at night into "this neighborhood."
Luis looks with dismay at his smashed up truck. He calls Aurora to tell her about it. She's actually standing out of sight not far away, enjoying every minute. "Oh, someone must have hated you," she tells him. "And the worst thing is that they know where you live."
Reme tells Marlene that her attitude toward her daughter is likely to drive her away. Marlene relies, "I'm here to educate her, not to be her friend."
Luis is telling Emiliano about his truck. Emiliano asks whether Jimena could have done this but decides she wouldn't have. But it's a signal. [Alas, at this point, my TV picture froze, nothing worked, and a notice appeared saying that there was a technical problem and they're working on it. Several minutes went by. When the program returned, it had jumped ahead to a scene with Ramiro visiting Pedro and Mónica.]
Lobo is in Connie's office. She tells him he needs to prove his innocence to his lawyer. Lobo asks, "Do you know how many women would die to be with me?" Connie forcefully asks him to leave. He leaves, warning her "You have no idea who you're messing with."
Pablo meets Fernando and his young daughter, Frida. Pablo invites Frida to have some ice cream and he tells Fernando he'll be happy to take care of Frida while Fernando goes to teach his class. Fernando and Frida are both happy with this arrangement.
Plutarco tells Lobo he can't represent him. He has committed crimes. He warns Lobo that his reputation and his future are in danger. He tells Lobo that he needs to decide which side he's on.
Jimena, Aurora, and their kids come to Jimena's house expecting to find Luis, but they instead find Max. I think Luis has explained his 2-women problem to Max and has paid Max to be in his house and to explain that he, Luis, had to be elsewhere. There's more to this arrangement between Max and Luis, but I missed the details.
Danny and Ale have to clean up the mess made to Emiliano's house by their party.
Hilda and her lawyer meet with Plutarco and Lobo. Plutarco announces the proposal that he and Lobo have apparently agreed on, whereby Lobo sets up a trust fund for his daughters. Lobo, however, is not happy, and he storms out. It's not clear whether he's already signed off on the arrangement. My guess is that he has, but very reluctantly.
Isabel asks her daughter, Frida, whether she had a good time with her father, Fernando. Frida says yes, and that she had ice cream with Tio Pablo. Isabel is furious.
Plutarco has "Marcelo" send a message to Connie. She responds that she has ended things with the sports guy. "My husband warned me about him. He was right."
Marcelo then says something about Miami. Connie wonders when she had told Marcelo about Miami. She bursts into Plutarco's office and declares, "You are Marcelo!" Plutarco claims he has no idea what she's talking about.
Jimena is unhappy that Max is sprawled out on her couch with his shoes on and eating pizza. Frankly, I don't blame her.
Reme and Emiliano are talking about Ale. Reme says that Ale has had a difficult time, with one father out of the house and the other.... Emilano adds, "And her sexuality." Reme is astonished that he knows about this. Emiliano explains that Ale told him.
Ale and Danny have finished cleaning up Emiliano's house. Ale looks at a bookcase and notices a postcard sticking out. She pulls it out and sees that it's from Emiliano to her mother, with a big "Returned to Sender" stamped on it. She finds a second card, and then a whole pile of them, all to Reme from Emiliano and all returned to sender. She remarks to Danny that Emiliano was telling the truth, he did look for her mother, but she didn't want to respond.
Thanks for recapping, Juanita. You didn’t miss much while your TV froze. Maybe I can help fill in.
Reme and Jimena show up in Connie’s office to comfort her about her breakup with Lobo. Jimena is anything but comforting. Blathering on about how “the poor thing” had her heart broken. Jimena hates men who lie and they should be fried in oil. Connie is not sure what upsets her more—being fooled by Lobo or his mistreatment of Hilda. Connie wonders if Lobo really meant to help his brothers with the apartments. Reme says, no! case closed! Reme and Connie are going out to breakfast and find a way once again to leave Jimena out. Jimena calls them mean girls as she leaves them.
Before Ramiro arrives, Pedro is wondering how Connie could go for a guy like Lobo. Monica says Lobo is charming and a talented baseball player. Pedro says real talent is like the doctor who performed his surgery. Monica asks if Plu is good enough for Connie. Pedro says Plu’s not perfect but he’s a good guy and he hopes that…Ramiro arrives and interrupts that thought.
Luis is letting Max crash at his house for a few days. Supposedly, Dario’s mother is sick and family came to visit so there’s no room for him.
So now Max knows about Luis and his two women. Max wants his money ($200?) up front because he now considers Luis untrustworthy. Max hid Jimena’s family pics as Luis asked (too late!). I suppose Max will continue to help Luis because Luis has no choice and because the money is good!
I’d like to know exactly what Luis does for a living since he can take care of two families and buy a new truck. He was carrying a lot of cash around, too. We also know that Luis hasn’t been at work for days or weeks at a time. Is everyone living off of Jimena? I’m puzzled.
Wow. Lobo isn’t used to being turned down. He’s become dangerous. Will Plu become a hero and save Connie?
I know there are other reasons behind Isabel’s upset but I might be upset if my young daughter was left in the care of someone I didn’t know very well.
dondi356
Many thanks, dondi356 and SpanProf, for your very helpful comments. You've filled in a lot that I missed. (Fortunately, this time I have a partial excuse! :-) )
dondi, I too have wondered how Luis manages to maintain two households, especially given his spotty attendance at work. My assumption has been that he's at least somewhat dependent on Jimena's salary as a lawyer, though she doesn't seem to be aware of that. Hmmm....
And I agree, Lobo is not used to be turned down, and he doesn't deal with rejection well. His parting words to Connie, "You don't know who you're messing with," do come across loud and clear as a threat.
Thanks so much for the recap, Juanita. Interesting. We get Telemundo on the same channel in the Bay Area, but I had no interruption of the novela.
Well, I'm now 100% sure Reme will not end up with Max. Plu and Emiliano have been pushing Luis pretty hard all along to tell the truth to his two wives. But Max just laughed and laughed and was more than happy to witness the women's confusion, pocketing money for his silence.
Dondi, I now do see your point about Isabel having a hissy fit about Frida being left with Pablo. But, OTOH earlier on she was pretty overt about wanting to date him until he very forthrightly told her he was gay. She knows he's a nice person and I think she's just being spiteful.
So Isabel, Marlene, and in some respects Jimena, can just vanish from the novela and it would suit me just fine. I don't know how Reme controlled herself at the insulting innuendo about the neighborhood where she lives. I expect a BIG comeuppance for Marlene before this is over.
I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Lobo. I was kind of confused about the mediation scene. Plu told him he wasn't going to represent him and then he did. I didn't get the impression that Lobo had agreed to anything, but maybe I missed something. Hilda's lawyer just sat there mum, but I guess she's not a regular cast member, so there's that.
Ale is usually pretty levelheaded, but this being a telenovela, I expect her to be angry with Remedios for refusing to respond to Emiliano.
Thanks so much for your insightful comments, novelera. I'm interested in hearing that you didn't have the same interruption of the telenovela that I did. What I think that means is that the problem was probably with Comcast rather than with Telemundo.
I too found the mediation scene confusing. My guess is that Plutarco's warning Lobo that his reputation and his future were at stake shook Lobo up a bit. I think the two of them finally arrived at a solution to the financial problem that Lobo could reluctantly agree to. But all it took was sitting across the table from Hilda to set him off again. I think he probably had signed off on the agreement, since there would be little point in Plutarco's proposing something to Hilda and her lawyer unless Lobo had agreed in writing. Then again, telenovela law is even more weird than telenovela medicine.
Martes
Tonight's episode has a great title: Plutarco al bate
Emi and Reme sit on the park bench of their youth, reminisce, and kiss.
Connie tells Plu that Lobo is suing them for malpractice. Plu tells her they won't win in the court but on the field.
Marlene approaches Jimena, Aurora, and their children about: ¡que horror! the fact that $10 was stolen from her son's wallet. [So Lucía isn't the only child in a living hell.]
For once Pablo doesn't put up with Fer's on-again, off-again treatment. When Fer is upset because Isabel chewed him about Frida being with Pablo, Pablo just walks away.
Jimena tells Reme and Connie about Max living in their house.
Both Jimena and Aurora want Luis to come to the big "security" meeting Marlene has organized at the school.
We get an excellent scene in Lobo's locker room with Plutarco. Plu tells him that, if his suit ends up in court, everything fraudulent he did will come out and ruin his reputation with his sponsors and his fans.
Ale shows Emi the letters she found in his apartment.
Plu hits a home run when he tells Lobo he discovered something settled out of court regarding Lobo's father. He tells him it doesn't take a genius to deduce what happened. Before Lobo got to the bigs, he fired his father as his manager for stealing from him. And this is exactly what he's doing to his own daughters. Lobo backs off.
Marlene interrupts Connie when she is in a meeting with a client. She wants her to come give legal advice about the $10 grand larceny at the school. And, unlike the way she usually treats Connie, butter wouldn't melt in her mouth.
In class Benjamin puts some moves on Mariana right in front of Danny.
Ale is not excited about Lucía inviting herself to her home while her mother's big meeting is going on.
Emi brings his letters to Reme and later we see her crying as she reads them.
When Jimena overhears Luis and Max talking about a secret, Luis covers it up by saying it's about their renewing their vows!
Aurora tells Luis over the phone that she's going to Mexico because her mother is ill. He grins and calls to Jimena that he's coming to the school meeting after all.
When the meeting starts, the parents roll their eyes and cover their mouths to suppress giggles when hearing it's about a missing $10.
Aurora shows up and Luis gets weak in the knees.
MANY thanks, novelera, for this excellent recap!
Plutarco seems so busy dealing with his family and friends (and perhaps doing a few minutes of work) that I wonder how he had time to find out that info about Lobo's father. But, of course, I'm glad he did.
At first, I assumed that Aurora really was planning to go back to Mexico because her mother was sick. Even when she appeared in the doorway at the school, I thought, oh, I guess her mother turned out not to be so sick. Duh. But then I thought about Aurora speaking to Luis on the phone as she watches him survey the huge damage to his truck, and she adds, "Gee, someone must really hate you" and "they know where you live." Count me in for team Aurora!
Does anyone know how long this telenovela is scheduled to last? Things seem to be moving toward a conclusion faster than I'd anticipated.
Having caught sight of Aurora, Luis collapses on the floor of the classroom where he was giving a talk about security. Aurora keeps slapping his face and saying "wake up." Jimena calls Emiliano, who tells her to call 911.
Reme comes by to see Emiliano. Tearfully, she tells him she read all the cards. She asks whether he's expecting anyone. Yes, he says. You.
Lucia is with Ale in Ale's house. She apologizes to Ale for the way she has acted, and she kisses her. Ale is understandably wary and doesn't want to start up with Lucia again. Lucia tells her that this time she's sure, and she kisses her again.
Kissing must be contagious. Reme and Emiliano go at it with passion.
Plutarco tells Connie that he wants to continue living with her, for the good times and the bad.
Ale and Lucia come upon Benjamin at school. He predictably calls Ale a freak again. Lucia holds hands with Ale, then kisses her. "Is there a problem?" she asks Benjamin.
Jimena leaves the room with the EMT guy for a moment. Alone with Luis, Aurora gives him an ultimatum: "Divorce Jimena and marry me or I'll tell her everything." [Having seen what a creep he is, Aurora still wants him?]
Reme and Emiliano are still at it. He tells her he wants her to stay.
At first, it seems that Plutarco and Connie may follow suit. But someone must have told them that the telenovela still has weeks left, so although Plu has carried Connie into the bedroom, she suddenly says "no no no, this will only confuse things. We have to think. We're supposed to have 100 days to explore other possibilities."
Luis is now back at Max's. Max advises him to tell Jimena the truth. Luis is adamant: "No!!" Max asks him what he's going to do. Luis replies that he's going to do with any intelligent person would do: disappear.
Danny and Mariana are at the diner. He tells her he's normally very reliable. He promises not to tell that her uncle and his uncle are novios. What? she says. Oops--up pops Benjamin, who exclaims, "What excellent news! I won't tell anyone," he assures them with a smirk on his face.
Max is now sprawled out again on Jimena's couch, sleeping. Jimena walks around with a spray to get rid of bad odors. One of Max's music buddies comes to visit. The guy finds Jimena VERY attractive.
Danny asks Lucia to leave Ale alone. Lucia tells him that she has apologized to Ale. Danny urges, "Please don't hurt her."
Plutarco sends Connie a huge bouquet of flowers. He then comes to Connie's office as she's reading over the 100 days agreement. He talks fondly of all the things he knows about her, all the little details like her favorite foods, her habits, etc. etc. He finally agrees to take Martin for his appointment while Connie goes to her Zumba session.
Luis tells Aurora that she and Nico are the most important things to him. She asks, so where does that leave Susy? And what about Jimena? She accuses him of telling the same lies to both Jimena and herself. "The only difference is that I don't have a house, a wedding, a honeymoon." Luis claims he hasn't told Jimena because she's sick in the head and might do something stupid. Aurora calls him an idiot, a liar, an SOB. She points out that he jumps back and forth from one woman's bed to the other's, and the two women's children are of about the same age. He urges her to go with him to Monterey and says, "Don't deny Nico the opportunity to grow up alongside his father." She's having none of it. She tells him he has 48 hours to tell Jimena the truth or she'll tell Jimena herself.
Reme, Ale, and Emiliano are at the diner. A bigot gets angry when an employee addresses him as señor. "This is America," he yells. "We speak English here! Go back to your country!" Emiliano tries to intervene. The guy first shoves the employee and then shoves Emiliano.
Jimena calls Luis while he's with Aurora. Jimena talks about where they can go on their second honeymoon. Luis ends the call and tells Aurora that Jimena is caprichosa (capricious, fickle, moody, flighty). Aurora says that Jimena doesn't know what a patán (jerk, loser, boor) he is.
Emiliano fights with the bigot and seems to come out ahead. He tells the bigot to leave, then turns to be sure everyone else is OK. The bigot pulls out a gun and points it at Emiliano.
We then get several minutes of Telemundo's "behind the scenes" filler. Yawn. Yes, occasionally this can be interesting, but frankly most of the time it seems to be simply filler.
Thanks very much, SpanProf. Wow, the guy you talked to on the phone really sounded like a nutcase. A sick, dangerous nutcase.
I too am hoping that the bigot in the telenovela is quickly disarmed, but since there are apparently weeks left to fill, I fear that someone will get shot--my guess is either Emiliano or Ale. I don't think either of them will die, but we'll have all the usual hospital scenes and grim reports from doctors. Of course, I'm notoriously bad at predictions, so my naming Emiliano and Ale will probably guarantee their emerging unscathed. :-)
Fantastic recap, Juanita.
Yep, the awful person with the cowboy hat was definitely a PSA about racism toward Latinx people. I hadn't thought of the possibility that either Ale or Emiliano would actually be shot. We'll see.
I can't figure Luis out. In truth, Aurora is the nicer of his two wives. But, until last night Luis never expressed the slightest discomfort with Jimena. That's only been Viewerville that she drives nuts with her weird speech patterns and conviction about her own superiority.
And he actually suggested that he, Aurora, and Nico just leave for Monterrey. Sounded like he was willing to just leave poor Susi without a father.
Of course this is a comical novela, so they're even shorter on details than in the more serious ones; but, why don't they say what Luis' job is supposed to be? If he even still has one after Jimena, IIRC, called to complain to his boss and was told he hadn't shown up for 3 days.
When, oh when will there be any retribution for Benjamin? He's a stereotype of every overbearing jock in high school. Being female I was not on the receiving end of any of this behavior. But I remember a very odd classmate who was bullied in high school. We discovered that he got a full ride to Harvard!
I enjoyed Plutarco's gentle courting of Connie and willingness to let her take the lead about whether and/or when to resume their married life.
Emiliano and Remedios were setting the bedsheets on fire last night. Very convincing portrayal of two people in serious love/lust.
I got a kick out of Jimena spraying air freshener in Max's general direction.
