Thanks for putting up the page, Juanita. Seems there’s not much interest in the offerings at the moment. I hope we find a way to keep the Telemundo page going. If there is anyone lurking out there watching Cennet or Enemigo, this is a good time to start commenting.

I will continue to watch Cennet.

I hope deb will let us know of any developments. She does a great job of keeping us informed.

Muhteşem Yüzyıl / Magnificent Century

Hey, deb, I finished last weekend! How many months has it been since we’ve started? What a journey! I still hear the soundtrack in my head.

I also watched the 8 episode behind the scenes series. I found it dubbed in Spanish, El Mundo Secreto de El Sultán. You can choose auto generated subs in Spanish or English if that helps. Really enjoyed this, especially when the actors spoke about the story, their characters and what they went through during the filming. It was also fun to see them joking, laughing and smiling with each other. Nice to get details about the costumes, battle scenes and other special effects.

Let me know when you’re done!

Cennet

Dond356, I watch cennet. My brother
Got me interested in cennet. Her mother is a piece of work. And Not excepting her daughter because she
Is a product of rape is horrible.
But last night that glass vase was broken. Arzu/cavedan's momma tiga came out. And now she is being the mother she was suppose to be 23+yrs
Ago.

Kaya is a piece of crap. He raped
Cavidan all those years ago and in his twisted brain desides its love.
Sick bastard.

I hope that malisa is sincere about
Changing cuz her big sister needs her right now. And her father should not let his mother take that
Baby away from his mistress. Arzu
Is not gonna have none of that. She knows what its like to deny a child and it's got to be worse having a child taken away from you, arzu is not going to allow that to happen.
Raise someone's child that was stolen from them. No. She wont be in prison Forever. And her whimppy
Husband better stand up to his evil
Mother.

Ok gotta go. Thanks for this page Jaunita.

Many thanks, dondi356, for encouraging conversation about Cennet and Enemigo, and special thanks to Nina for your helpful remarks about Cennet. I am now watching Cennet, but since I started only after 100 días ended, I don't yet understand who most of the characters are nor what has happened up until now. For that reason, I found Nina's comment very helpful. It helped me put together what I had seen and to understand the relationships between some of the characters.

Normally, I'm not willing to start watching after much of the telenovela has already occurred, and normally I try to avoid novelas dubbed into Spanish. However, as I watched the last couple of minutes of Cennet each evening while waiting for 100 días to start, I was struck by how much of the Spanish I could understand. I had been so unhappy with how much of the conversation I kept failing to understand in 100 días. I began to look forward to the last few minutes of Cennet, even though the acting seemed at times ludicrously exaggerated. So once the other telenovela ended and Cennet moved to the 9 PM time slot, I decided I'd watch, even if I didn't understand much about the plot. I found a one-paragraph synopsis that was a little helpful, and gradually I've been figuring out what's happening, helped now by Nina's comment.

So I think I'll continue to watch, especially if dondi356 and Nina (and perhaps others as well?) continue to comment. I still find disconcerting the disconnect between what I hear and how the characters' lips are moving, but I've watched a couple of other Turkish novelas in the past and found myself eventually able to overlook that. Frankly, much of the acting in Cennet seems to me more exaggerated/hammy/over-the-top than I remember in other Turkish novelas, but it's been a while since I've seen them. And the Turkish judicial system seems as puzzling and unreasonable to me as the Mexican one often does. And apparently novela writers regardless of nationality seem to love to create stereotypic scenes of women in prison. Arrgh. But in spite of all these negatives, I'm enjoying listening to Spanish that I can for the most part understand.

Cennet

Welcome, Nina! Juanita, we can catch you up as necessary. Nice to know I’m not alone. This show is so over the top, it’s sometimes hard to take it seriously. If we started a drinking game for every time someone cries, I’d be plastered every night.

I’m not sure who I despise most: Kaya, Arzu or Melisa. They take turns.

Arzu aka Cavidan: Her total rejection of and campaign of destruction against Cennet has been hard to watch and she’s got a few other sins to atone for. Seems the plan is to bring Arzu around slowly and head down the road to redemption. Her convo with the pregnant inmate who killed her abusive husband really affected her.

Kaya is a vile character but sometimes he busts out with something so ridiculous, I laugh out loud! He’s had a couple of very brief moments of self-awareness this week--when Arzu asked him what he sees in the mirror and again after he found out Cennet was almost raped. I can’t see redemption for him.

Still suspicious of Melisa. This girl is in serious need of professional mental help. I fear she won’t give up that easily. Her latest plan to get rid of Cennet and win over Selim was a spectacular backfire. She was relieved that Cennet still doesn’t know the truth about Arzu.

I almost forgot that Ozlem came back from America to rip off Mahir. Not sure, is Mahir or Senol the father of her baby? Mahir, what a wimpy idiot! I can see why predators Arzu and Ozlem went after him.

Random Thoughts:

How the heck did Cengiz survive that bullet to the head? Kaya had that gun right up against his temple! Anyway it doesn't matter anymore, Kaya finished the job.

Arzu stabs Kaya in the heart and he’s fine in the next scene.

How many times will Cennet get kidnapped?

CENNET

JAUNITA, thanks for the page.

When arzu was running in the warehouse listening to cennet screaming for help(look like cennet could have fought harder than she did) her inner momma was finally showing up. And she was determined to protect her daughter. Nobody was
There to protect her from kaya.

After a few episodes I figured he
Might have raped her and that is
Just what the twisted bastasd did.
But she should not have made cennet
Pay for what kaya did, she was a product of it not the cause. And I wish she'd stop calling melisa her "princessa". She is not a princessa
Shes a spoiled brat whose had every thing Handed to her. Her grandmom
Told arzu and mehiz(dad)that they
Have spoiled her, made her think she could have whatever she wanted and thats why shes all screwed up. It seems like she has changed but then she goes and Sets up cennet to seemly save her from a thief. And she stiffs the thief and he kidnaps cennet to make her pay for using him. Im watching her watch arzu and cennet come Out of the police station, can't read if shes jealous or mad. Can't tell.

I could have sworn cennet heard her
Say "momma is here" when that jerk was tryin to rape her,and she just
Blocked it out. I think she heard her.

Kaya is coldblooded. But sometimes
He has a funny side when hes Dealin with the old woman that cennet
Calls abuela. That old woman is on time for kaya. He tried to kill her and she's still not scared of him.
But he gotta pay for murdering selims dad, even tho he was a jerk that was cruel what kaya did. He
Broke his neck then pushed him down
The stairs, coldblooded. Cennet needs to know her dad is just what arzu said he is, A monster.

Ill be glad when shes out of prison
She will have to fight her way out of that. And help the pregnant lady
Too.

Thanks juanita for this discussion page.

I was surprised to see kaya walkin
Around after being stabbed in the heart. And who gets shot in the head at pointblank and lives to go home in a wherlchair? Well they have to keep the drama goin. But that's ridiculous. And atzu hit the guy in the head with the rock, that happened to be inside so she Can pick it up and softly hit the guy with it twice, under acting.

cennet

Thanks VERY much, dondi356 and Nina, for the additional information about the novela. I found them very helpful as I try to figure out who's who and what's been happening. I have two questions. dondi, you said that "Ozlem came back from America to rip off Mahir." I'm afraid I don't yet know who Ozlem and Mahir are. And Nina, you mentioned "the old woman that cennet calls abuela." Is she really not Cennet's abuela?

Again, many thanks to both of you.

Cennet – Review of Characters part 1

There are 3 main families. Soyer, Arisoy and Yilmaz. The Soyers and Arisoys run a construction company and are very wealthy. The Yilmaz family is poor.

Soyer family:

Arzu aka Cavidan: As rape victim Cavidan, she gave birth to Cennet at home and immediately abandoned her with Mukkades, her MIL. Somehow in the next couple of years (we did not see this) she changed her name to Arzu, insinuated herself into the Soyer family, married the oldest son, Mahir and had a daughter Melisa. She holds a high-ranking position in the company. Arzu and Cengiz Arisoy were very close confidants. I don’t think they ever had an affair but I kind of got the idea Cengiz would have welcomed that.

Riza: Soyer patriarch and one of the company founders. Was a mentor to Arzu but when he discovered Arzu had abandoned Cennet, he vowed to kick her out of the family & company. Unfortunately, he had a heart attack and died when he confronted Arzu at the family summer home. Circumstances of his death were covered up by Arzu and Cengiz.

Sema: Riza’s wife who was always suspicious of Arzu and looking for ways to get rid of her. Very protective of her family. Favors Orhan. Bailed Melisa out of the mental hospital which was a big mistake.

Mahir: oldest son of the Soyers. He’s a wimp and resentful of being overshadowed by Orhan and Arzu. Riza forced him into a loveless marriage with Arzu but the real love of his life was Ozlem. When Ozlem returned they started an affair.

Orhan: younger son of the Soyers. He’s a player but he fell for Cennet and he’s willing to change his ways for her. Became the head of the Soyer family & major partner of the construction company upon the death of Riza. Has been in cahoots with Melisa to keep Selim and Cennet apart. Has always been in competition with Selim in and outside of work. They have come to blows several times. Recently, he shot Selim as a family revenge for Riza’s death. Selim has decided to keep this a secret.

Melisa: evil spawn of Arzu and Mahir. Obsessed with Selim, she has gone to extreme lengths to keep him away from Cennet. This includes faking a suicide attempt, tricking a drunk Selim into thinking they slept together so he would have to marry her, kidnapping Cennet and setting a fire to kill them both. Her latest scheme was to hire a dirtbag to “rob” Cennet so Melisa could heroically save her and gain her trust. She knows that Arzu is Cennet’s mother.

Cennet – Review of Characters part 2

Arisoy family:

Cengiz: Was married to Nilgun but didn’t love her. Adoptive father of Ali/Selim. Brother of Ozlem. Was a major partner in the construction company. Cover ups seemed to be his specialty. He covered for his wife who caused a DUI fatal accident and again when she kidnapped and planned to kill Cennet in order to keep Selim from learning he was adopted. He also had the bright idea to cover up Riza’s death and make it seem like Riza had a heart attack while fishing. This eventually led to Cengiz’s downfall and death at the hands of Kaya.

Nilgun: Wife of Cengiz, adoptive mother of Ali/Selim. She’s mentally unstable. Caused an auto accident that killed her young bio son, Selim, and the parents of Ali. Out of grief and guilt, Cengiz and Nilgun adopted Ali, changed his name to Selim and raised him keeping all this a secret. Ali/Selim’s memory was impaired, and he didn’t remember his bio family. Nilgun went to desperate lengths (see Cengiz description) to keep Selim from discovering the truth for fear she would lose him.

Selim aka Ali: Sent to an orphanage after his parent’s death where he became fast friends with Cennet. They vowed to always be together but were separated once he was adopted and Cennet went back to her grandmother. Works in the family company. Object of Melisa’s obsession. Melisa discovered Selim's true identity and told him. This caused Selim to go into a tailspin and temporarily reject his family and Cennet.

Ozlem: sister of Cengiz. Kind of a free spirit, black sheep of the family. Was living in America for a while. Came back to town with Senol and a scheme to rip off Mahir & family. She had an affair with Mahir and now she’s pregnant. I’m not sure who the father is. There’s more to this story yet to be revealed.

Cennet – Review of Characters part 3

Yilmaz family:

Cennet: abandoned at birth by Cavidan. She spent some years in the orphanage but eventually grandma Mukaddes was able to bring Cennet home and raise her in a loving environment. She completed her studies as an architect where she coincidentally met and tutored Melisa. Melisa brought Cennet into the family company and soon Arzu realized Cennet was her abandoned daughter. Cennet has never given up her dream of finding her mother. Currently engaged to her beloved Ali/Selim.

Mukaddes: Was thought to be Cennet’s bio grandmother through her son, Mehmet. Mehmet worked with Cavidan for Kaya Demiroz’s family. It was later revealed that Cavidan married Mehmet after she was raped and found out she was pregnant. Mehmet died before Cennet was born. For some reason, Mukkades has chosen not to tell Cennet that Arzu is her mother. It was Mukaddes who inadvertently led Kaya to discover Cennet is his daughter and the whereabouts of Cavidan/Arzu.

Suna: Mukaddes’ neighbor and considered family. She was there when Cennet was born. She has a son, Omer.

Beste: Friend of Cennet’s from the orphanage.

Then there’s Kaya Demiroz: Raped Cavidan and is Cennet’s bio dad. Was in prison several years for a murder he claimed was self defense. This guy is evil and unrepentant. His single-minded obsession with Cavidan/Arzu has continued for 23+ years. He is determined to get Arzu back and form a family of 3 but he’s not ready to reveal Arzu yet. He tried to kill Mukaddes by gassing her in the middle of the night. He had proof of the Riza cover up and killed Cengiz to protect Arzu from any blame. He also weaseled his way into the Soyer & Arisoy families and their company. He’s in an uneasy alliance with Melisa to keep Cennet and Selim apart. Selim does not trust him. He’s got Cennet fooled for now.

OMG, dondi356, what a goldmine of helpful information!! Thank you VERY VERY VERY much!
I'm speechless. This is exactly what I need. Perhaps it may also encourage others to give Cennet a try. I can't thank you enough.
