Lila continues to grace us with her entertaining recaps of Médicos: Linea de Vida and now Anita has joined in to assist her…YAY!  If some other brave soul(s) would like to contribute a recap or just some highlights for MLDV or DA, it would be greatly appreciated. You can also add to or clarify scenes/details, especially those that are favs or not-so-favs. The TNs covered by this page are:

7PM – Vencer el Miedo

8PM  - La Rosa de Guadalupe

9PM – 11PM Médicos: Linea de Vida (The slaughter makes numbering worthless L )

Friendly reminder:  PLEASE put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for. (You can shorten the title to one word, i.e., “MÉDICOS”.)

Discussion pages will be posted on Mondays and Thursdays at 9PM.

"DULCE AMBICION":

RGV Chick: I'm going to be intrigued to see if this Brazilian Telenovela will be popular since the language is Portuguese.

DULCE AMBICIÓN

Funny that you should mention this one, Steve, because I watched it last night. I will not be continuing it because the dubbing was too annoying as I suspected it would be.That being said, it has to be one of the most beautifully filmed productions I have seen anywhere in a long more. It was absolutely stunning.

MÉDICOS # 33, 8-27-20 Or whatever number it is!

G’day, Peeps! A BIG THANK YOU and positive vibes for our Amiga, Anita who did a spectacular job covering Friday’s double episode while not feeling well on top of that! Please, Anita, take care: we’ve got you covered in well wishes and prayer! As usual, Peeps, I’m honing my summary skills: there may be scenes or characters you want to emphasize or correct something. Feel free!

A brief snippet in the evening back home in Mexico City. A reprise of Rafa getting his foot in Cinthia’s door, literally and figuratively. He pleads his case; he doesn’t like her being distant from him; he’s a better person with her! If Daniel has forgiven him, why can’t she! She complains that he’ll never change; he goes with the first somebody that tells him “yes.” He eventually breaks through and we see her familiar smile as she tells him “no” she won’t forgive him. He never makes it into her apartment but feels he may have made a crack at her good graces and tells her as he leaves that he takes it as a good sign that she thought enough of him to have been disillusioned!

It’s morning. Art and Regina walk together into the Instituto, I think Art is suggesting they go out this weekend. We see David dismount his motorcycle in the background; he deliberately strides briskly between the two! There is a passively hostile interchange between the three about him going to work in the OPC today with Ana. Regina and David chide him about being the only one that gets along with “Anita.” Directed at Regina, David says, “That’s because she listens and understands, unlike some others.” Art suggests he may want to just work over there permanently. David looks at Art, “Oh, don’t be confused, Arturito,” then, looking directly at Regina, he continues “I know perfectly well what my place is. Excuse me!” Art looks at Regina; she is unsmiling and knows she has been delivered a blow. Art asks if she is all right. She gives an unconvincing yes and walks ahead of him into the hospital.

Diego and Pamela talk about their economic backgrounds and the place money plays in their lives. Of course, Diego wishes he had her resources. Pamela has loaned money to a patient, Sr. Mateo, who will work for her Dad to pay off the loan. Later Pamela gives the grateful Sr. Mateo a check and tells him the only thanks she needs is that he not tell anyone. Diego looks on in the background.

Cinthia’s Mom, Patricia, surprises Cinthia at the hospital. Easy to summarize because Patricia repeats herself so much! Her Dad has landed a big construction project in Mexico City so now they can be close to Cinthia!! Guess if Cinthia is excited! You got it; she is NOT! Patricia notes it but happily plows ahead telling her about the awesome house they are renting and that Cinthia should move in with them while they are there! Or, at least, rent an apartment near their rented house. Cinthia, aware of her audience, including nasty Miryea, does not protest vigorously but declines Patricia’s offer. Patricia is not deterred from repeatedly requesting that Pamela think about it and to please not ignore her calls!

MÉDICOS # 33, 8-27-20

Miryea shows Regina the tally of supplies used in the ER while she was away at the conference. Regina is shocked at the quantity. She hauls Diego, Pamela, Tania and Marco in: they are responsible for this over usage, so it’s going to be taken out of their checks! [Is that right, Peeps?]

Luz reports to Gonzalo about the chaos Rene has cause with his discharge of patients who were under medical observation AND his increasing the bills of many others; people are desperate and don’t know what to do. She leaves, he asks Marta to get Rene. Rene comes in; Gonzalo demands to know why he made decisions that didn’t correspond to him! Rene says he had the right as he was acting in Gonzalo’s place as Director! To Rene’s objectification of the patients as interchangeable commodities that can be manipulated to maximize profit, Gonzalo righteously maintains that all the technical and human capital the Institute has is to take care of PEOPLE!! People will pay according to their socioeconomic abilities, NOT what Rene decides they should pay! Rene says he thought Gonzalo would thank him! Gonzalo warns that this is never to happen again: even if he is not there; Rene is to consult with him! Gonzalo stands and walks toward the door, indicating Rene should leave. Gonzalo goes out to Marta’s desk and asks her to dial his son, Felipe, until he answers! More on this later.

Sensitivity Alert. The cringe factor is somewhat diminished by some editing (I believe) of the surgery scene. A couple and their teenaged son are driving in their jeep. The wife, Sandra, has a terrible migraine and is arguing with her husband, Victor. Sandra decides it’s a good time to demand he leave their home. He looks at her in disbelief and they slam into another vehicle, thus becoming the ER case of the day! Regina does her rapid triage, assigning the family to teams and rooms! Regina, David and Daniel work on the son. He is in bad shape, having flown through the windshield! Regina asks Tania to come in and assist. The boy has repeated vigorous seizures as they work on him! The boy has suffered craniofacial trauma: his head and face are horribly injured. They will have to put him into a medically induced coma! They intubate him, put a neck brace on him and do initial sutures of facial injuries. David remarks to Regina that while his injuries are serious; children of his age have tremendous recuperative powers. Regina hopes the boy is one of these. She and David leave to check on the parents, leaving Tania and Daniel. The two exchange a long, somewhat awkward stare above their surgical masks.

Art and Cinthia work on Sandra who is distraught about her son; she is inconsolable and tries to get up from the gurney. Cinthia, an Orthopedic Surgeon, has to get very assertive with her and even hold her back: both her legs have serious fractures and must be operated on if she wants to save them! Pamela and Diego enter the cubicle and offer their help: Art orders them to get x-rays and call Dr. Calderon (Rafa). Art reassures Sandra her son is in good hands! Later Art meets with Sandra; she tells Art about her terrible headaches and also some depression and tachycardia (abnormally rapid heart rate). Art tells her he will order some tests. Sandra cries that if she had not been irritated by the headache, they would all be at a party, not here at the hospital. [Okay, maybe I missed something; please fill in.]

MÉDICOS # 33, 8-27-20

Luis and Marco are with Victor. He has had serious thoracic trauma, the steering wheel impacting his chest with violent force! He needs surgery STAT! Luis tells Miryea they’ll need an OR; she tells him the ORs are full! Luis fires back that they have to operate NOW, or he’ll die. Miryea decides it’s a good time to bitch about the fact that the Instituto’s operating with few resources is not her fault; his complaints are best aimed at The Director! Luis takes command: they will do the surgery right where they are! After the commercial we are in the surgery of Victor. Frankly, I can’t tell who is who with the surgical caps and gowns! The surgery is over; Luis congratulates everyone on a job well done!

Gonzalo checks in with Marta whose persistence finally gets Felipe on the phone! Gonzalo talks to him and is careful not to provoke Felipe to anger as Felipe is cold and disrespectful, calling him Gonzalo. Bottom line: we don’t need you, “MY Father” is taking care of this; it is NOT your problem. Gonzalo tells Felipe he can get his Mother in to see a specialist and begs Felipe to allow him to help! Felipe finally gives Gonzalo the address. Gonzalo will see him tonight!

After their own surgery, Rafa, ever alert to an opportunity to butter up Cinthia, says he likes working with her; well, she feels the same, as long as he behaves himself. So do you forgive me? No, you still have to earn more credits. So; I’m on the right path? Her smile says more than what she said, which I don’t catch, but I did catch Rafa saying, “You’re very sexy when you’re working. Do you know that?” Cinthia says she knows it. Rafa says even though it’s very brief, he enjoys chatting with her again. He tells her he misses her; she tells him she believes him. Rafa casts a smile of brilliant, amused relief at Cinthia after she leaves.

We catch up with Art and Regina in the staff area of the ER. Miryea happily chirps to Art that his novio came looking for him. Regina dramatically rolls her eyes, looks down and away which Art can’t help but notice with dismay. Art displays the plastic version of his smile and thanks Miryea. Regina curtly announces she’s going to eat. Art looks after her anxiously having been interrupted in the pursuit by a Nurse who needs a signature. Art catches up with Regina stabbing her salad in the cafeteria. Are you all right? She doesn’t answer for a long moment. [Kinda teenagery, ain’t it?] He sits next to her. His relationship with Cecelia is over. Regina says he does not have to give her explanations and not to worry about her. Art says he has no idea why Cecelia came there looking for him. Really, Art, it’s nothing. “But I want an opportunity with you!” “Look, talk to her and resolve whatever it is…” “I told you I don’t know why she was looking for me and I don’t care! “If she looked for you, there was a reason…” “I told you, I don’t know why she was looking for me…Regina,” Art takes her hand, “give me a chance!” David plops down with his tray on the other side of the table and, looking directly at Regina says brightly, “I imagine that you’re not busy!” Art is annoyed and points to many empty tables and suggests David takes one of those. “Why? Dr. Molina, you are my work companions and I want to eat with you! Listen, don’t worry about me; just act like I’m not here and continue chatting about whatever it is!” Art says it’s personal! David replies, “Aren’t we a team? Let’s not start with secrets between us!” Regina says enough already! [Y’all know how I feel about this interchange – MWAH! David!]

MÉDICOS # 33, 8-27-20

Diego and Pamela flop in unison on the couch in the break room. The subject of the stolen material comes up and the unfairness that the Residents have to pay for it. Diego confesses that he’s been stealing supplies and begs Pamela not to tell anyone! Tania interrupts the soul-baring with the announcement of the exciting case she just assisted on: a kid with craniofacial trauma! How is he? He’s good; he’s stable: David and Regina did the surgery! Uh, yah, congratulations Tania! The next morning, Diego tells Pam he had a sleepless night. The conversation is interrupted by a Nurse giving Pam a signed discharge order. Pam is alarmed and takes off! [Have no idea what this is about.] David tells a gentleman in the OPC he has diabetes. The man is upset. We get the cool graphic explanation of the cause and danger of diabetes.

Finally, let’s get back to the previous night. Gonzalo goes to his wife, Aurora and son Felipe’s home. Felipe answers the heavy ornate wooden external doors to the house. Gonzalo greets Felipe emotionally with a long embrace and kiss to the side of his face. Felipe seems a tiny bit moved but maintains his hard and bitter exterior and insists on punctuating his emotional distance and anger by calling his Dad, Gonzalo. Felipe reviews his own and his mother’s reproaches for Gonzalo’s never having time for them and valuing his work over them. Gonzalo protests that everything he did, he did for them, so they would want for nothing! But that can wait. He wants to help Felipe’s Mother. Gonzalo wants to get her seen at the Instituto; he will do whatever he has to! No! It’s not out of guilt; he loves Aurora with all his heart and wants to be close to Felipe but for now; please allow him to help. Felipe vigorously rejects this offer: he wants nothing to do with the maldito Instituto but eventually consents through silence that he will talk to Aurora. Gonzalo leaves. Prior to going to his family’s home, Gonzalo begged off meeting with Montesinos but promised to meet with him early the next morning. Montesinos comes to Gonzalo’s office the next morning and they get right to the point. Montesinos doesn’t like what he’s heard about some things happening at the Instituto. For example, the quinceañera for a patient. Gonzalo explains that the girl had a serious heart condition, was suffering from depression and the party was a tremendous boost for her health. Montesinos says he understands, but does not agree. Gonzalo does not back down: Montesinos knows that he is predisposed to do whatever he can to advocate for and help patients and if Montesinos doesn’t like it, he can get somebody else to be Director!

Lila...thank you thank you . You reported everything . Your recaps continue to be a bright spot in my day.

OT..dear Anita, I hope You are feeling better. You are IN my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery .

Victor, the injured driver, played a villain in a recent telenovela. He was a real scoundrel that one.

MÉDICOS

Lila, I am so grateful to you for forging on with all the recapping of this TN. I've been reading, but not commenting due to some personal issues. Just wanted to say that I truly enjoy your writing style; you have a knack for making me chuckle and even laugh out loud. THANK YOU!

And thank you to Anita too; she is one dedicated and talented recapper! I do hope you are feeling better Anita; you are in my thoughts and prayers.

DULCE

Jarifa, I watched this last night too. Spectacular production and the filming of the horse chase was may favorite. What I didn't like was all the feuding between the families and killing at a whim. I know that this will stop very soon but I will bow out of this one too (sigh).

ANNOUNCEMENT

Two actresses whom we have recently seen have gone to their eternal rest.

Monica Miguel who had a small part in "Médicos" as an abused mother, died on August 12th.

Cecilia Romo, who played Doña Remedios" on "Como Tu No hay 2," died on Sunday of Covid -19 and other underlying conditions.

May they rest in peace.

Hola, Susanlynn! You don't know how happy that makes me to know these offerings are a bright spot in your day! Bless you and thank you!!

Rgv Chick! Thank you so much! I am so pleased you are joining us on this Patio, comments or no, but you know I LOVE to talk about these stories. You are welcome anytime!! Rgv, we gotta laugh, it is actually good for us as I'm sure you know! Happy to give you a chuckle or two!!

One other note, Rgv: Could you put that "Read more" link in? Pardon me if it's already there. Thank you!!

Ot...hi, Chickie..so good to " see" you here.

MEDICOS

Marvelous Lila.

"Felipe seems a tiny bit moved but maintains his hard and bitter exterior and insists on punctuating his emotional distance and anger by calling his Dad, Gonzalo". Your insightful description was perfectly stated. You could feel Felipe's deep seeded sorrow, a child's surmised rejection, battling with his resolve to reject his father. At least his heart was moved, if only a bit. A devastating situation and I hope a reconciliation is not far away. Of course, I'm dying to see who plays the ex!

"Art displays the plastic version of his smile and thanks Miryea" - again, excellent.

"Guess if Cinthia is excited! You got it; she is NOT! Patricia notes it but happily plows ahead..." had me smiling away. Falsely exuberant, this wife and mother seems inextricably stuck between husband and child. Relationships in crisis, certainly.

Tania and Daniel. "The two exchange a long, somewhat awkward stare above their surgical masks". Daniel should apologize. His childish, petulant actions have left Tania alone and the object of Cin's wrath. Not that he is the only one to blame here...

"Rafa casts a smile of brilliant, amused relief at Cinthia after she leaves". Yes, Cin is caving.

A lot of talking between David and Art, Art and David, Art and Regina. They are running on their respective hamster wheels, but are they getting anywhere???

Sabine Moussier looks fabulous. The actress of course, not the character. Will Marco's plastic surgery skills come into play? Was sorry to see the child so damaged. I hope he gets better. Lisardo was also a welcome sight.

A bit of trivia. Joshua Gutiérrez (who plays Felipe) and Sabine Moussier's characters got together in La Malquerida (NOT in real life). He has the most beautiful eyes (as does she).

So, Diego's secret is out. I hope Pamela isn't relegated to being the friend/confidant here. She is one of the smartest here and deserves a little romance as well.

Happy to see you here Rgv Chick. We miss you. Very sad to hear of the passings you noted. Gone too soon.

Lila, thank you for another exciting recap. You lift our spirits daily! Gracias amiga.

Diana

MEDICOS

Just great LILA and you didn't miss a thing. And you made me laugh with this:

"Easy to summarize because Patricia repeats herself so much."

Ah yes. Tough to see this fine actress play such a clueless mother. She hasn't learned anything. Like the ill advisement of barging in on daughter at work (granted Cinthia is also at fault for never answering her calls). And the silliness of trying to convince Cinthia to live with them in Mexico City when Patricia's husband is still at odds with his daughter. Oh well....

As the stress of Covid-19 goes on, I have a tougher time dealing with any kind of negativity in the stories. Hate seeing Gonzalo undermined, both by Rene and Mireya and by his son Felipe.

On the plus side, as a stalwart member of Team David, loved seeing him cut off Arturo at the pass, so to speak!

I need something lighthearted right now like Como Tu No Hay Dos, and now I learn the actress who played Remedios in that one has just died of Covid-19. Sigh.

Certainly hoping that Anita's illness has nothing to do with this wretched coronavirus.

Thanks LILA. You're a bright spot indeed and I hope that your family member's recovery is on pace now that the surgery/procedure is over.

Medicos. Great recap, Lila! In answer to your question: Sandra and her family left a party early because of her terrible headache. Victor, her husband, is upset about that, and that is why they were quarreling in the car. I was surprised that there wasn't a PSA for wearing seatbelts, since the son obviously wasn't wearing one, and that's why he went through the window. Wonder if Pamela will somehow resolve Diego's financial problems and find a way to pay for the pilfered supplies.

Médicos

Well, I read everyone’s explanations about Regina still having issues about Sergio.. but i still think she was acting teenager-ish since the trip. Ana gave David a peck on the cheek, well then they must have slept together! Whatever.... so it doesn’t surprise me that she is still acting teenager-ish now that they’re back..

Well I don’t have anything more to add because I haven’t seen the episode yet lol but thank you for the wonderful recap Lila!!

Médicos

Thanks, Lila. Fine job.

Too much médico for me last night, but any scene with David sticking it to Art is good.

Still disappointed in Regina for kissing Art in the first. She's silly to care that Art's old (as in they broke up three days ago) girlfriend would come visit.

Does Gonzalo finally get that Rene is his enemy?

Cheers to Diego for confessing to Pamela. Will she have a solution for him? Diego, how about just stop stealing and get Pamela's rich contacts to raise money for your village?

Anita, I'm keeping you in prayer, that you feel better and better.

Medicos

There were several scenes with Pamela that were cut, which is why what’s going on with her does not make any sense. The details around this are a little fuzzy for me, it’s been almost a year since I watched, but this is what I remember:
- First of all, you need to know that while Gonzalo was away, Rene changed the way that Luz did her socio-economic studies and forced her to charge all patients a lot more
- There is a female patient that required surgery- I don’t remember the exact procedure, but it was a life or death kind of situation.
- Luz tells the patient how much they will have to pay, based on the new rules. The amount is too much and the patient can’t afford it
- Luz can’t lower their amount because Rene is watching her to make sure she bills more money
- Patient’s husband says he will sign the form to have his wife released because they cannot afford the surgery
- Pamela is very worried about the patient. Tries to convince them to go ahead with the surgery because it’s very important- they understand the severity but there’s no way they can get the money
- Pamela asks her dad for the money to pay for the surgery. I don’t remember the amount, but I remember doing a rough calculation in my head to equal about 10,000USD
- At first her dad says no because she’s just their doctor, she does not even know these people
- Pamela begs and begs. Promises her dad she will pay him back herself. Her dad finally agrees after Pamela says she will give him monthly payments to repay him
- Pamela gives the patient’s husband the check to pay for the surgery. Husband appears to be genuinely thankful
- Pamela finds out the patient signed the release form and left the hospital without having the surgery (and with Pamela’s money)

OT:

RGV Chick: I'm sorry to hear about the deaths of Monica Miguel & Cecilia Romo RIP.

MEDICOS

Sorry, I'm late y'all! Felt like I should've been in the OPC today (with David); felt kinda crappy! So, pardon the group thanks!

Diana My gosh! Thank you SO MUCH You've got some gems yourself:

You could feel Felipe's deep seeded sorrow, a child's surmised rejection, battling with his resolve to reject his father.

Falsely exuberant, this wife and mother seems inextricably stuck between husband and child.

Cinthia knows she wants that boy! They're cut from the same cloth. Stop playing hard to get, Cinthia, y'all got a theme song!

Who was Lisardo?

JudyB! Muchisimas, Amiga! Uh Oh! Gonzalo has just promised to move heaven and earth to get Aurora the best specialist in the best medical institution in the country, and Rene, the snake and his pet rat, Marco, have poisoned Montesinos so Gonzalo could be out!! Rene would certainly interfere i Aurora's care, or try to. In that case, teddy bear-like Gonzalo will put David's rage to shame!

Thank you so much, JudyB. No, we're not done, so I'll be looking for cheer and probably working hard to magnify the silliness in this little medical drama, just for relief!

MEDICOS

Thank you, SpanProf for always clarifying that about the party! That makes a lot of sense! Yes! There HAD to be a PSA for seatbelts: they must've edited it out. Poor kid was a missle inside that car!

Pamela helping Diego pay for the supplies IS possible. Hey, and maybe her Dad will help his little village dispensary so he won't "have to" steal anymore!

UnOp! I solicit your opinion after you watch, Kid! Thanks!

Niecie! Thanks! Yeah, I'm glad it seems they edited some of it. It was a really medical episode last night. Agree Regina is acting silly. Jeezopete. She could've blocked that lip action easily. Now Art feels entitled. I'm getting my wish, though. Let Cecelia bring the crazy, the whiny and the stalky!!

Yep! We agree on Pam and Diego!

Hey, Anon! Thank you for that background on Pamela and the check. Yeah. This makes sense. There was a brief reference to all this when Luz came in to see Gonzalo. Uuuuuf! That Rene! What a thieving sleazeball! I can't wait to see if this offer of Gonzalo to be replaced by someone more of Montesinos's liking is an artificial cliff hanger, or is Gonzalo going to leave?

MEDICOS - Mislabeled. Should be #34, 8-31-20

Médicos

Hahaha Lila, ok well here is my solicited opinion lol

At the beginning of the episode when Regina and Art are walking together, he is telling her that the trip was too short and that they should ask for time off so they can go together again for a weekend trip. Dude! You kissed her once (and she didn’t like it)! Calm down!!
And maybe David walking and pushing his way in between them, as well as the cafeteria scene, was a little childish... but I’m not going to lie, I loved it haha. I loved it all!!

Also, I think there was a slip up on the production- David said he was going to work at the clinic, but he was in the ER the whole day lol. It didn’t look like he had been called from the clinic because 1. He was already in the ER when the accident victims arrived and 2. We didn’t get a scene with Ana bitching about David not being in the clinic haha. It wasn’t until the next day that David was at the clinic

Lisardo was the husband, who was driving when the car crash happened

One more thing, why is Regina always wearing turtlenecks under her scrubs now?

MEDICOS to end of Televisa's ep 42

Gracias, Lila.

The editors at Univision have been downgraded to mad scientists. Granted, ep 41 was mostly Rene harassing hospital personnel and patients, but viewers need fuel for the fire. He made me lose my appetite.

So Sandra had her migraine in front of her husband's boss. Perhaps it's the casting decision, but this is probably not the first time she's done this. This looks like a marriage that will cross over to PASL3... in divorce court. Lisardo Guarino and Sabine Moussier sound like a novela couple from hell.

I think Diego's days in medicine are soon over and further, that much more than what he stole is missing.

Mireya won't stop until she has everyone thinking that Regina is a slut.

I don't fault Cinthia for not taking her mother's calls. Patricia is delusional if she thinks she did her daughter any good by coming to the hospital or trying to persuade her to move in with them. For Cinthia to move back in with her parents would be horrific for her. Her father would probably sabotage her medical career.

MEDICOS

Hey, UnOp! Thanks! So Art was trying to spirit Regina away for a weekend? What? Cecelia wasn't the only crazy in that relationship, was she?

I noticed that about the Er thing. Maybe David made it clear to Ana that when there is an emergency that calls for all hands on deck, he's going to be there! I can see him saying that kind of thing. But, you're right. they could've simply screwed up! Oooops!

Regina and turtlenecks. Sheesh! Who knows? Thanks, UnOp!

Urban! Thanks for this information on episode 41. I guess I have mixed feelings about missing that snake, Rene, in action. It did feel so disjointed to hear the complaints without any evidence. It does take the ire out of the fire!

Lisardo Guarino and Sabine Moussier sound like a novela couple from hell. You know, I've seen this woman in things before. There is an intensity about her that is kinda scary. She would be a great villian. Can't really see her as a love interest. She's beautiful, but there's a harpy-like quality about her!

Urban, I remember you and several others of us were thinking Diego would end up taking the fall for the vast amounts of missing material. He's confessing to just the tip of the iceberg!

Hate Miryea. Nuff said.

Cinthia's Mother makes ME tired. Jeezopete! Cinthia looked like she wanted to shrink or fly away.

Thank you, Urban!

Dulce Ambición

I watched part of this show Tuesday by mistake. I was watching the recording of Tuesday's earlier Mariana de la noche, but paused it to get some coffee. When I came back the DVR was recording the 10 PM slot, thinking Como tú no hay 2 was still running. Silly DVR. I scolded it and it promised to stop trying to record finished TNs.

Anyway I watched a little and couldn't figure out where the TN was from; it didn't look Mexican. At first I thought it was Turkish, but the lip sync was too good, and eventually there were Christian symbols. Turns out it's Brazilian.

Anyway, what I first saw was the family (families?) together with all their hand guns on the table. I thought "Oh, no. A meeting of the local branch of the Mafia." Nobody got shot but I figured it was just a matter of time.

Next scene is the happy novia in her white wedding dress, and I figured she would be the victim. Bloody gunshot wounds show up so well on white. Surprise for me, it was the groom who got shot. I have no idea why or how, and don't care, I won't be watching.

Too bad, I would like to watch a fun, happy Brazilian TN. Maybe another time.

Dulce Ambición

I did notice that there was a song in English played, and I learned at Wikipedia, A Dona do Pedaço that the soundtrack includes songs by Dolly Parton, Ariana Grande, and others. Interesting.

DULCE AMBICIÓN

Andy, I did a double take when I watched the first episode and heard “Jolene”.

"DULCE AMBICION":

Jarifa: I sneaked a peak on last night's episode..... OMG! Non-stop bloodthirsty murders YIKES!

MEDICOS

Lila,
Sabine Moussier has a long rap sheet as a sexually predatory villana. Most recently she was a truly insane one who practiced witchcraft in Me Declaro Culpable. Previously she was in Abysmo de Pasion, Entre el Amor y el Odio, Amor Real, La Madrastra, and El Derecho de Nacer.

Lisardo Guarino was most recently seen as the loving father of Rubi's "best friend" but he has previously been cast as sexual predators in other novelas.

MÉDICOS #35, 9-1-20

Hola, Peeps! Welcome to the Médicos Patio! I thank you for reading this retelling and I thank you even more for joining in the discussion to correct a misunderstanding or to add your take on a character, scene or plot point. I’m ever striving to be more efficient, so this type of participation is key to fully understanding and enjoying the story! Once again, I am grateful to my Amiga, Anita and prayerfully hope she is taking it easy and feeling better!

We pick back up with Gonzalo and Montesinos. Gonzalo argues for continued quality care for patients, regardless of ability to pay as they are not responsible for the Instituto’s financial straits. Montesinos backs Rene’s point of view tells Gonzalo that while his clinical skills are renown in the nation and beyond question; Rene needs to handle more of the administrative decisions. Montesinos meets with Rene afterwards and although Montesinos does not agree to share his glowing assessment of Rene’s administrative skills with the minister of health, he assigns Rene oversight and monitoring of all decisions made in the Instituto and wants Rene to report directly to him from time to time. Rene wastes no time in giving instructions to his pet rat (thanks, Anita!). Marco comes in to complain about the unfairness of garnishing the Residents checks. Eventually they discuss the surgery Luis did on Victor in an ER treatment room because the ORs were full. Marco said the operation was successful and looks doubtful when Rene says such a thing is never to happen again. Why? “It put a patient’s life at risk.” Rene repeats the phrase with emphasis and tells Marco he is to repeat that phrase at the time Rene instructs him to do so! Moments later, Marco the rat tries to pump Lili for whatever she knows about the missing supplies. She is quite busy, accepts his coffee and simply shares her honest opinion that somebody made a big mistake and it’s too bad, but has to be resolved. She does, however, agree to a future date with him. [NO, Lili!!]

Regina meets with Sandra to give her an update on her son. Mauricio had various cuts and bruises which will heal with time, but he suffered a very serious closed head injury. Aided by the cool computer graphics, she describes why Mauricio had to be put into a coma: the brain becomes bruised and inflamed from the trauma of an impact and, with nowhere to expand within the closed cavity of the skull, the Doctors can best treat this swelling and inflammation with Mauricio in a medically induced coma. Regina counsels patience: his healing will be a very long process and the next hours are critical. Mauricio is in ICU as is her husband who also had a complicated intervention but is stable. Sandra wants to see them; she is told she may be able to visit Victor for a short period but to be careful as she herself has just had surgery. Regina leaves; Sandra cries.

Continuing with this family, Luis examines Victor and fills him in on his wife and son’s injuries, treatment and condition. Sandra visits Victor in the ICU; she was not allowed to see poor Mauricio yet. Sandra and Victor each blame themselves for the accident and ask each other’s forgiveness. Art enters with Sandra’s test results: she has iron deficiency anemia. “You mean I’m really sick?” Sandra asks. Art looks at them both and even with a mask on, you can see in his expressive eyes that he understands there is more to this story. The love and forgiveness fest is over as Victor admits he thought Sandra was faking being sick just to pester him! She shoots a few barbs at him and calls for the Nurse to take her out of the room!

Pamela runs to the room of Sra. Mateos. Her husband has signed her out against medical advice: he’s found a less expensive hospital where his wife can not only get care, but he will have money left to help his children. He thanks her, but it was the only decision to make. Later at home Pamela laments this decision by her patient. Her parents console her and tell her caution her that she cannot get involved in the lives of her patients. Pam credits her Parents with her outlook on life and desire to help others. Her Dad warns her that people will sometimes take advantage of her goodwill. Her Mom suggests that if the medical profession is going to grieve Pamela so much, she shouldn’t feel like she has to continue. In a diabetes PSA we see another patient reassuring his wife that diabetes is controllable and does not have to result in amputation as happened to a neighbor.

In other news, Tania busts Rafa with his happy pills. He angrily tells her to back off and splits; she looks it up in the formulary. It is Ketamine! (According to Wikipedia: “Ketamine is a medication mainly used for starting and maintaining anesthesia. It induces a trance-like state while providing pain relief, sedation, and memory loss. Other uses include sedation in intensive care and treatment of pain and depression.”) As an Anesthesiologist, Rafa has open access to this drug! YIKES! Diego comes in as she is looking up the drug and complains about their pay cut. Tania feels the sting too; Diego asks why she doesn’t ask Daniel for one of his famous tortas. That’s a non-starter. There is a strange fragment of a scene between Daniel’s Parents, Paco and Elena. Paco is acting strange. [Anyone care to weigh in?] Luis and Gabriel at home. Seems Gabriel is temporarily off the soccer team until his grades improve. Gabriel seems a little despondent at first but perks up as the two play a soccer video game.

All throughout the day, Arturo has professed and pressed Regina about giving him a chance with her. He inserts his urgent need to be with her when they are talking about patients, when they’re in the ER, when they’re in the lobby; everywhere they are, he pleads his case. One such time is in the lobby as they discuss Sandra. Oh, that’s one of the things he likes so much about her; that she is not only concerned about the patient’s medical condition, but every aspect of their wellbeing. RUH ROH!! Cecelia springs herself upon them!

Cecelia, que haces aqui? Regina tries to leave with a con permiso but Cecelia grabs Regina’s arm and physically blocks her and then loudly ties into Art. [Imagine a screech owl screeching while clawing an old fashioned chalk board, oh, and the screech owl is blonde with black roots and push broom eyelashes. Got it? Ok, you’ll know why I’m going to condense this.] SO, this is the idiot you were cheating on me with! You’re sooo concerned about your patients and all the time you were with THIS! Regina protests that she has NOTHING to do with their problems, and the usually cool, calm and collected Art is reduced to a string of CALLATES! using his body as a barrier between Cecelia at his front and Regina at his back. Regina finally leaves and Art looks at her with a quick “I have fudged up” look! He goes back and forth with Cecelia, telling her to leave! The congress! You lied! I begged you not to leave me for her and then you tried to send me to therapy as if I were crazy! You broke my heart; why don’t you love me like you love her!!!! I just wanted to be with you and you tried to treat me like a patient instead of your lover!!!! Art tries one last time to tell her that for someone to love another, they must first love themselves and their relationship ended because of HER attitude. This is just as much noise to Cecelia as her tearful harping is to us. On and on she goes. Finally, Art says ,”Look at me in the face; I don’t ever want to see you again!.” She’s not done. She wants to get some things from his house and wants him to come with her. NOPE! He’s got to work, get the keys from the doorman y ya! He doesn’t want to see her again! As Art goes up the stairs, Cecelia declares, “OK, I’m going to comply with your wishes, you’ll never see me again!”

Regina heads to the break room; Cinthia is there’ Regina describes what happened, after giving Cinthia the background of the beso on the beach. Cinthia is girlfriend-thrilled and thinks she should give Art a chance: he’s a great person; he’s got a good heart! No, Regina thinks if she gives him a chance and it doesn’t go well, it will affect their work relationship and ruin their friendship; besides she is not ready for a relationship. Cinthia continues that it is rare to find someone who understands the rhythm of your life where work is such an integral part of it: the hours, the absent weekends, the need for last minute change of plans because of a patient….Regina knows the drill but after what just happened, Art has things he HAS to resolve with Cecelia!

Well, Arturo has learned a thing or two about begging after being with Cecelia, and he ain’t too proud to do so right in the ER. Why didn’t she ask his help with the patient? It was simple, she didn’t need help. Please, excuse what happened with Cecelia. He has nothing to do with her and doesn’t know why she’s acting like this! Regina evenly repeats that she told him to work things out with Cecelia. He has nothing to work out with her. The only thing he wants is to be with Regina! Regina repeats more firmly that she is not going to start anything new with him until he has finalized his relationship, especially with someone as unstable as Cecelia! This is not healthy for him, or for her! “And sincerely, I don’t have any reason to be in the middle of anyone else’s relationship; that is not happening!” Art says Regina knows how much he wants to be with her! She weakly protests this is not the moment. He presses on and she continues to insist they let time pass and see what happens. More begging: she is the woman he wants; nothing would make him happier than to be with her! Everybody knows how he feels about her! Regina quietly insists on calm and finally, with a crook of the neck, says she does not want to be pressured and cannot respond to him in the manner he wants right now.

MÉDICOS #35, 9-1-20 END

MORE BEGGING: “Just give me time to show you that you can live by my side; that relationships can be different. I don’t know what your life was like with Sergio, but our lives are very similar and nobody understands the way you live better than I!” Cinthia thankfully and appropriately interrupts, bringing Regina Sandra’s chart breaking the rhythm of Art’s begging with the realities of patient care he was just claiming to understand so well! Somewhat later, Art springs himself on Regina again as she’s walking in the lobby. He asks her if she wants to get dinner together, with a sigh and crank of the neck, she declines and he attributes it to Cecelia. Sounding like a broken record, she tells him he’s a very nice person and she feels good with him but he must talk to Cecelia; she really can’t respond to him in the way he wants right now! He tries AGAIN, unsuccessfully, to get her go to dinner. She says no. She’s going to talk to Gonzalo. He FINALLY gives up. David approaches almost immediately. How’d it go in OPC? Good; he works well with Ana. Oh, she thinks he looks happy. Why doesn’t he consider changing his area and work with her? She heads for the stairs. Hard to read David’s smile but we’ll see in a minute. Regina gets to Gonzalo’s office; after a little shop talk, he tells her about having seen his son, Felipe, his coldness and Aurora’s possibly terminal illness. Regina offers support and reassurance, suggesting Gonzalo give them time to reach out to him next, and if not, to then approach them.

Cinthia is working in the break room when David bursts in and explodes in frustration about Regina: He says it seems she’s upset that he’s working well with Ana! She is driving him crazy! She frustrates him; she leaves him speechless; desperate; frustrated; all kinds of things! Cinthia thinks this is intense, even for David, but she listens and asks if he’s always felt this way, or is it something new? He doesn’t know; maybe more now. Why doesn’t he talk to her and tell her how he feels! He can’t! Sometimes he wants to be angry with her and he just. cannot! Cinthia says Regina seems to be the same way. Could it be that the one who is changing here is you? David doesn’t think so. At first, it seemed they were getting closer and then suddenly, everything changed! She invites him to sit down and tell her what happened. He sits. Cinthia says she doesn’t think Regina is angry about him going to support Ana in the OPC; why are you mad? Look, he says, I only offered to help Ana to support Regina and not to have problems with her! But now she fusses at me about it and it’s driving me crazy! Cinthia says that’s what’s strange. Something like this wouldn’t have bothered him before. Ah! She can do what she wishes David says with a dismissive wave of his hand! Just drives me crazy, that’s all!

Sensitivity Alert.Art comes home to a wrecked apartment and a note from Cecelia which reads in part that after seeing him today with Regina she realizes that she can’t live in a world where he doesn’t love her. Art runs frantically through the apartment calling Cecelia’s name and finds her slumped against the back of the bloodied tub, dead, her wrists cut.

MEDICOS

Thanks, Urban! Looks like I nailed Sabine Moussier's character profile!

MEDICOS

Lila, you covered every overt and every nuanced scene perfectly.

This was beyond dark and disturbing. A young woman dead, by her own hand. Tragic. To be honest, I never saw this coming.

Art is guilty of many things including mishandling almost every aspect of his relationship with Cecelia. But even he did not realize the depths of her despair. The guilt will surely be overwhelming. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if he had accompanied her to his house. I suspect she would have done it with him there, but we will never know.

One of your many gems was "Cinthia is girlfriend-thrilled". Cinthia was certainly privy to an assault of emotional outbursts from several of her friends.

On the plotlines of less importance,Rafa is another teetering on the edge of self destruction. Sometimes I wonder if people want to be caught. I don't think that is true in Rafa's case even though he is being careless and taking far too many chances. I have no idea what Tania will do. If I were her, I would seek Daniel's counsel.

And yes, Paco, Daniel's father was definitely acting strange. Or should I say stranger? :) Seriously, something was up there but I haven't a clue what it is.

Does Regina actually have the potential for real interest in Arturo? It didn't seem like it but I suapect suicide has a dampening effect on one's ardor.

The poor family that was in the accident. Sandra had headaches prior to the accident so I fear this storyline will intensify - unfortunately.

Was Pamela's father the same actor who portrayed him earlier? He looked different. She is fortunate to have such loving parents.

You did an excellent job with this Lila. Cece was desperately crying out for help that was just not heeded.

Thank you Lila for another marvelously written summary.

MÉDICOS #35, 9-1-20

Hi, Diana I guess I shouldn't have mocked Cecelia, knowing what was going to happen to her. Sadly, I'm not surprised. She lived in an alternate world where she was the needy, yet powerful center of the universe. We never knew anything about her family. The whiny, plaintive pitch of her voice spoke volumes. What would have happened if he went with her? I'm afraid she might have tried a more dramatic way to kill herself. I don't know if there were guns in his house, but that's one of the ways murder/suicide happens. Yah. Bad scene.

Cinthia was certainly privy to an assault of emotional outbursts from several of her friends. Yah, she has been! I hope they will listen to her when SHE needs it. I guess Rafa did listen to her, but he is in deep doo! What will Tania do, indeed. She's the one nobody will talk to! She's going to have to confide in somebody. Pamela, maybe? Maybe Pam could use her shrink skills!

I suapect suicide has a dampening effect on one's ardor. I'm sorry, but that made me laugh! Yes, Regina, give Art up! THAT is baggage you don't need with your own psycho ex still on the loose!

Thank YOU, Diana!

Medicos

It’s not Arturo’s fault Cecilia chose to go the ultimate blackmail route. No means no, and if someone doesn’t want to continue the relationship, accept it and move on. No one should be held prisoner just because the other is a psycho. That’s unfair, and you don’t even need to give anyone an explanation for why the relationship is done. Arturo had checked out from the relationship a while back, and you can tell he was in it for sympathy. Cecelia had him wrapped around his finger for a good while, until Pamela cleared up the situation for him. If Pamela hadn’t said anything, he’d probably still have been with the whiny idiot. All those times Cecilia suggested they end it- she never meant them! She knew he’d stay, and now that he chose to leave, she plays her last card.

MEDICOS

Gracias, Lila, and we should all be thanking the TN gods that this was a whole episode: #44 at Televisa. The Hump Episode.

My prophesy came to pass and Cecelia looks like she's offed herself. This looks seriously convenient, so Arturo will beat himself up over this. It will certainly delay anything that Art wants now. As for breaking up with Cecelia, I don't think he was out of line. She was far too needy for any man let alone a doctor... and she was refusing to see the psychiatrist. This is someone who was refusing to help herself. He is not at fault over this.

Rafael needs a shrink, too. We don't know how resistant he is to that idea.

More later.

Médicos

Lila, you make everything so vivid.

I'm wondering if it's possible that Cecelia is still alive.

I certainly don't blame Art, but he was giving Cecelia a hard time because she was acting nutty AND because she was ruining his appeal to Regina.

Yikes, with drugging Rafa, stealing Diego, and spying Marcos, Gonzalo and Regina don't have a chance against Rene.

MÉDICOS #35, 9-1-20

Thank you, Urban! A real whole episode! YAAAY! I was not surprised either! I guess her physical charms were so impressive, Art couldn't see anything else? Seriously, there often is a hormonal honeymoon in many relationships. As Art got used to that sexual diet and began being more involved in work, Cecelia didn't have anything else to offer him and she began to feel abandoned.

Now I am worried about Art's intensity and persistence in pursuing Regina. He seems more driven by a need for himself to have HER than letting her take her time to WANT him! He knows she just came out of a TEN YEAR MARRIAGE which was suddenly ripped apart by a shocking act of infidelity. He knows her ex inflicted himself with a serious leg wound that needed sutures just to get her attention! Then he's going to pressure her to give him a chance even after his unbalanced girl friend accosted them both in public that very day with wild, unfounded accusations that were all created from her sick, narcissistic mind. If Art doesn't recognize it, Regina certainly should! What she felt was far from ardour but Cecelia's suicide should, as Diana suggested, certainly extinguish whatever it was!

Run! Run into David's open arms, Regina!

MEDICOS

Art made mistakes in his relationship with Cece, but agree he is not responsible for her suicide. Or suicide attempt.

She was cloying and refused to let him go. Although he tried, he just couldn't extricate himself from her begging and mewling.

Niecie, I assumed she was dead but you might be right and she is clinging to life.

Awesome retelling, Lila, thanks!

Ceci doing herself off was in the cards, wasn't it (since she has always been quite unstable)? She looked quite dead to me, but then this is a medical show so anything is possible. If she does survive, will Art take pity on her and give her some attention? He was quite cold and harsh at the hospital. It amazes me how everyone seems to have their little "fits" in front of EVERYONE yet the passersby just go about their business...not even a glance at the pair who are having a loud discussion.

I was surprised that Sandra's headaches were caused by a mere iron deficiency; they seemed much more severe...a tumor maybe??

Urban, thanks for letting us know that this was a complete episode. "Bout time!

Regina deserves better than David though. He’s told Ana he’s not ready for a relationship, and while it meant he didn’t want one with Ana, the expression on his face at the beach suggested otherwise. He’s conflicted over what he wants, and his conversation with Ana served the audience with the information that he isn’t one to want relationships. Seems like David likes to play around, but he met his match with Regina, particularly because she was married at the time.

Regina shouldn’t be considering dating anyone for a while. Her ten year relationship ended not long ago. These men need to back off and give her space.its kind of surprising that she so quickly has developed an interest in David.

*suggested otherwise as in David doesn’t believe in relationships at all, despite his desire to have Regina.

MÉDICOS #35, 9-1-20

Hey, Anon I agree these guys need to give Regina some space. David, however, was following leads by Regina that SHE was interested in him. Leads which the "mad scientists" at Uni decided to do away with! Curses! Her asking him to come to dinner and then insisting on going to get him when he was late was another one of those leads. She decided to jump to conclusions because of an innocent peck on the cheek and turned cold on David.

I think the writers are portraying David as someone, true, that has not been interested in relationships but Regina is -- recall his scene with Cinthia -- confounding and confusing and exasperating and surprising him! All his usual defenses are failing him and his attempts to read her have been wrong. As Cinthia says, Regina has not changed, as David suggests, but perhaps HE has. He's IN LOVE and doesn't realize it!

Ok, corny, whatever, let's repeat to ourselves.....it's only a novela; only a novela; only a novela...!

And remember. I LOVES ME SOME DAVID!

Jeezopete LILA! What an episode. I'm still having to fast forward through all the Rene and Marco scenes. Just. Cannot. Stomach. Them. Right. Now.

And what's up with Arturo? Overnight he has morphed from a sexy, congenial colleague to an unhinged, jealous, possive Regina stalker. Just. Back. Off. Fella! NOW!!!!!

Fortunately, Cecilia's unfortunate choice should put a damper on things. Since it's just a story, I hope that she'd dead. Simply because a little bit of Cecilia goes a long long way. And I think we've all had enough.

Plus now that you have alerted us to Regina's neck twists I'm seeing them all the time now. Little gal is going to need a chiropractor very soon!

Well, if we're learning anything from this story, it's "don't get involved with people at work". Not that anybody is listening of course.

On Daniel's father, could be the beginning of dementia. At least that's how I read it.

Obviously going to be some very stormy seas from now on, with a lot of harsh chopping from Univision.

On a side note, it's refreshing to see Sabine Moussier play somebody relatively normal for a change. She's had a lot of crazy lady roles recently. Although I think she played a relatively sane old girlfriend (of Lisardo's) in a section of Amores Verdaderos.

SUSANLYNN, to the best of my knowledge, Sabine Moussier was NOT in Amor Real.

Medicos

Lila, thanks so much for all detaila of this dismal episode.

I was shocked and upset by that final scene of Cece in that tub. Awful and disturbing. . This show has certainly taken a plunge into despair and darkness.

Unrequited love is a major theme here with everybody wanting someone who doesn't want them. Let's do a graphic organizer of unrequited love.... Cece >Art>Regina, who doesn't want anyone right now . She just wants to do her job.

Ana> David > Regina (see above ^),

Daniel >Tania> Rafa( for now but mostly anyone she is attracted to at the moment )Rafa> Cinthia

Medicos

The day when David walked in between David and Regina and said he was going to work with Anita, he did indeed work at the clinic. Univision cut the scenes. They also cut a scene at the clinic where Ana asks David what happened to him
In Puerto Vallarta (she had seen him upset). David said nothing happened and Ana says “fine, but just realize that I am the only one that understands you/the way you are and I hope that when you want to get close to me, it’s not too late.” David says “oook thanks.” David is in the ER later because Regina is telling David, Arturo, and Luis about her decision to withhold half of the residents paychecks.

The next day David works at the clinic again. David and Regina are checking on one of the patients from the car crash when David says he has to go to the clinic. Rafa asked David to cover for him because he has a surgery

Art’s begging is pathetic and (I agree) a bit of psychopathology in him. He completely ignores what Regina says and forged on without regard for her. If he was half the man and doctor that’s he pretends to be, he should have seen all the signs of suicidal behavior in Cecil. To send her off to his apartment to get her things by herself was incomprehensible to me.

I’m team David too, but David is needs to chill and stop being so volatile.

MEDICOS Correction: It was #43

Cecelia was deliberately drawing attention with her histrionics in the hospital to embarrass Arturo. I wanted to slap her flat. This is the manipulative act of a narcissist.

It is about time someone caught Rafael. He is on the fast track to disaster.

MÉDICOS #35, 9-1-20

Gracias, JudyB! It WAS quite an episode! I agree!

Ok, so I just wasn't imagining this:

And what's up with Arturo? Overnight he has morphed from a sexy, congenial colleague to an unhinged, jealous, possive Regina stalker. Just. Back. Off. Fella! NOW!!!!!

Yes, JudyB, whatever we thought of (the probably late) Cecelia, this fatal ending of that relationship with Art is NOT going to encourage Regina to just hop into something new with him. I don't know how much detail they're going to give, but Art needs a new apartment! He's so creepy right now, what if he asked to move in with Regina? Okay, Okay...I'm getting carried away!

Yas, David alerted us to Regina's neck twists. He knows that this is a sign she is stressed. Art doesn't and while he was pressing and stressing her, he didn't know to notice that simple gesture. He's not only unaware of her, I think he lacks self-awareness. He ought to look at himself: he's desperate!

Ahhh! Paco could have early signs of dementia? That could be! Pobrecito! JudyB, you guys have seen more of these than I have. It seems LRdG is literally sacred so moving this to 8:00 when Imperio starts doesn't seem possible. If they double up, I'm going to depend on the Patio to fill in stuff because I'm going to be summarizing the HECK out of those episodes!

Hola y gracias, Susanlynn! I LOVE your graphic and you're right! Lots of misunderstandings and unrequited love! Ceceilia's end WAS graphic and sad. I guess we're supposed to sustain ourselves with Art's lukewarm kiss with Regina? C'mon, novela gods, give us some PASSION; we've had enough pity and panic!

Thank you, once again, Anon for helping us understand the characters and actors better by filling in these missing interactions. Man! What can I say. We're at the mercy of Univision!

Medicos

Thank you Lila!

I don’t think Cecilia survives.. that looked like A LOT of blood. And up to this point the novela has been realistic in the medical aspect (ie no Rosa de Guadalupe wind miraculously saving patients). I had already though that Cecilia would somehow guilt Arturo into staying with her, so I think she had planned to try something in his apartment with him there so he would “save” her and then feel guilty. However, after seeing him with Regina she just went through with it. If she had wanted to be saved she would have called Art or done something to make him get home in time to do so.

Now, Arturo.. I think as a doctor he should have seen the signs that Cecilia was going to harm herself. However, he was waaay too preoccupied with Regina to pay attention. He had already been after Regina all day, and after the scene with Cecilia the ONLY thing that mattered to him was to go find Regina to keep insisting.

David and Regina - that scene to me looked like they were both trying to make each other jealous. Regina had already said before that there was no way she was going to let David work at the clinic full time, but now she was like “maybe you should move to that area” and David was like “maybe I will.” David’s little smirk, to me, implied that he realized Regina was getting jealous

Ok, I hear everyone’s arguments that Regina needs time after her divorce, but come on this is a TN! We are halfway though the novela and there has been absolutely NOTHING between the two main characters (David & Regina)!! Not a peck, not a holding of hands, NADA! In my opinion, this actually needs to speed up. I had never in my life seen a novela where the protas have not had a kiss halfway through the novela, have you??

I liked the scene with David and Cinthia because it explains his feelings exactly- a big confusing mess lol. He’s right in saying he doesn’t understand Regina because she HAS been sending mixed signals. And yes, Lila, I agree with you in that David is surprised by his own feelings and maybe doesn’t even realize he’s in love with Regina. He realizes he’s feeling things he’s never felt for anyone before and doesn’t really know how to proceed. Seems realistic to me

Medicos

I have been on Team David from the start. He seemed like the least complicated character, and I like low maintenance people and try to keep my distance from high maintenance types. There are quite a few of those roaming around in this tale.

Are we done with Sergio now, or is he lurking in the bushes ready to cause trouble for Regina...well, more trouble ...because the two guys who are smitten with her have her stressed out and rubbing her own neck. When you truly love someone , you don't want to be a source of stress. You want to be a safe harbor of love and calm as any stress swirls around .

What I notice is that ,as in life, everybody wants something or someone and the struggle is all about getting what you desire . Rene and Mireya want money . bonsai wants his son's love. Diego wants to help his poor community. Pamela wants to help people.

I, too, have noticed Regina's turtkenecks...what's up with that ? She is the only one who wears them . Is the actress chilly!

I guess we will find out what is wrong with Paco and Gabriel. I don't have any idea .

I have been watching Dulce Ambicion and don't like the violence either. However, it will end when she goes to another town. The synopsis makes it sound very soapy, just like I like. And says it is drama, comedy and romance. The music is fun. The good news is that Univision has closed caption in English..so if it isn't followed on Caray Caray I will survive.
I have been following the patio for years and cannot thank you all enough for making the novelas come alive for me. You are a great bunch of folks.

Silly me thinking the production staff at Televisa had messed up in the story! It’s actually the production at Univision chopping this up without rhyme or reason!! Seriously, instead of taking out scenes of the main characters, they should have cut the scenes with the doctors parents. Especially when the doctors aren’t even part of those scenes! I’m sorry, but I don’t care about Daniel’s parents. I would rather see those missing scenes from the hospital. Sorry not sorry lol

Whoops my comment above was for Medicos 😁

Okay, UnOP! We'll see what happens tonight! Thank you so much! The Patio is rocking today!

The cinematography of Dulce ambición (A dona do pedaço)is gorgeous. I read that it was filmed in Rio Grande do Sul around the old missions of Nova Esperança do Sul and in Jaguari. There is a very obvious gaucho ambience, even though the original story is supposed to take place in Espírito Santo state. In the first episode, Amadeu explains to Maria da Paz that she doesn't know him because his family sent him to be educated in Vitória, the capital of ES.

I thought I was going to be bothered by the dubbing and tried all I could to see if I could access the original soundtrack in Portuguese, but after I gave up I found it wasn't that bad. There are some amazing actors in this series if you know Brazilian cinema, like Betty Faria from Bye, Bye Brazil, and especially Fernanda Montenegro, the grandmother. She was the woman in Central Station (Central do Brasil) and SHE IS 90 YEARS OLD. Not only is she obviously still very active as an actress, she is also politically outspoken against the Bolsonaro government.

Medicos

Bonsai was supposed to be Gonzalo. I apologize. Autocorrect is not my friend . Sometimes it randomly changes a word . For exampke, it doesn't like " Dan" and Changes it to " can"....Sometimes over and over. Likewise , it prefers nudyb to judyb. It is annoying like several of our characters .

Speaking of Art, that trip to the beach and that single, chaste, lackluster, bad kiss seems to have changed him. He has become as relentless in pursuing Reg as Cece was in pursuing him .

MÉDICOS #35, 9-1-20

Hi, Susanlynn!! High maintenance people, indeed! Trauma, drama, pity, panic and not a kiss between the protas halfway through! (Thanks, UnOp!) BUT, we've had two self-inflicted wounds, one faatal by two exes. With that track record, Sergio will probably show up again. This observation is so true:

the two guys who are smitten with her have her stressed out and rubbing her own neck. When you truly love someone , you don't want to be a source of stress. You want to be a safe harbor of love and calm as any stress swirls around .

I love your paragraph about everybody wanting something in life. You are so right. Right now, Regina wants peace. Even just a few minutes of peace. Since that funky scene not even (in novela time) a month ago, it's been nothing but chaos.

Funny. Even after you guys mentioned it, I have no visual memory of Regina in a turtleneck!

Thank you, Susanlynn!

Medicos

Lol Lila that’s so funny that you don’t recall Regina in a turtleneck because for me it’s so distracting! I keep wondering why she’s the only doctor wearing one haha. Maybe they there expecting us all to not notice? Maybe if it was the same color as her scrubs I could ignore it, but right now they stand out too much. The other day she had royal blue scrubs and a burgundy color turtleneck.. eww girl- no. Lol

Medicos

I swear, UnOp! I don't see them. Weird!

DULCE

Appreciate everybody's comments about this show, especially yours, Diana. I watched two excellent Brazilian novelas, they were wonderful! I have recorded the first two nights but, life is happening and I may end up not watching, I'll see. Thank you all.

Medicos

Unsolicted

Same here regarding the turtkenecks. I dont think she wore them at the beginning of the show, but now she seems to always have them on . There must be a whole rack of them in wardrobe in a rainbow of colors,Why did she suddenly start wearing them ? How many different colors have we seen so far? Luckily, she didn't pack anybody her suitcase when she went to The beach .

Lila

"life is happening "...I know exactly what You mean . Sometimes you just have to keep on keeping on one day at a time and try to find a little relief wherever you can....like watching a crazy telenovela . We are probably all going to start wearing turtlenecks and rubbing our necks.

Thank you, Sweetheart!

Medicos

I have a theory as to why Regina is now wearing turtlenecks, but my theory has never been confirmed by anyone. When it aired in Mexico, there were a lot of comments on social media poking fun at Regina’s scrubs because they showed cleavage. Even the actor that plays Sergio posted something saying “where does one buy scrubs with cleavage? It’s for a homework assignment.” All of a sudden Regina started wearing turtlenecks under her uniform. Of course the comments then shifted to “why is Regina wearing turtlenecks?” So yes, at some point she will stop wearing the turtlenecks

MEDICOS

This isn't directed at anyone in particular. Just been thinking about the turtleneck issue. I didn't know about this show before now, but I did work in hospitals for many years and
a lot of women wore something under their scrubs because they were thin and V-neck and, frankly, it was more comfortable. Maybe that's why I don't see them or even think about Regina's turtle necks! It seems natural! Scrubs are practical, interchangeable, light weight but durable work clothes for health care personnel. I remember them becoming something of a fad a few (yah) decades ago and you would see people just randomly wearing them outside of the hospital setting whether they worked in hospitals or not. But, they don't do a lot to keep you warm and yah, if a woman is endowed, it's easy for the girls to take center stage which isn't very professional, and is distracting. Now, don't come for me: it's not body-shaming or prudish to want to keep one's breasts discreetly covered. Take the extreme: how appropriate would it be for a woman to be topless in the health care setting? So, calm down anybody getting riled up; go back down the continuum and realize an undershirt or turtleneck is a comfortable and modest choice under a scrub shirt.

To put it back in the context of the novela, fair or unfair, it would be easier to cast Regina as having gotten her position "on her back" if the girls were always about to pop out!

Medicos

I’ll be honest, I haven’t been paying attention to Regina’s chest. I’m too busy looking at David haha. Well I wasn’t paying attention before, but for me the turtlenecks actually draw MORE attention to that area lol. Anyway, I went to google images and searched for medicos línea de vida out of curiosity. Some of the pics of Regina are (what appear to me) normal scrubs. But, there is one more promo pic with Regina in a pink uniform, David in blue, and Art in turquoise. David and Art’s uniforms have a normal size v-neck, but Regina’s v-neck is cut waaaay lower than David and Art’s! And yes, it shows a fair amount of cleavage. Still, when I watched the novela there was never a time when I thought “woah what’s up with the cleavage.” In most of the promo pics, Regina is wearing a purple uniform with a normal v-neck, so maybe they use the turtlenecks with the uniforms that would have shown “too much” otherwise, given that the uniforms are different every day now. Cleavage or no cleavage, it really doesn’t bother me and actually if they want to make that v-cut in David’s uniform a little bigger I’d be cool with that too 😂

Medicos

Lila and anonymous, that sounds like a logical explanation to me because I taught teens and adults , so I always wor loose tops that didn't show cleavage plus a jacket or sweater in addition . Teaching in front of a class is like being on stage , and sometimes students are not looking in your eyes.

MEDICOS

UnOp! f they want to make that v-cut in David’s uniform a little bigger I’d be cool with that too 😂 HEE HEE!

Susanlynn! Teaching in front of a class is like being on stage , and sometimes students are not looking in your eyes. FUNNY but true!

O/T

Good evening everyone!

I just wanted to note that the Diana that commented on Dulce ambición wasn't me.

To the other Diana - welcome!

Diana (the old time Caray recapper/commenter) :)

O/T

I wondered about that Diana! Sweetest, most attentive commenter ever! Because you usually sign your name at the bottom but I thought, well, Diana's using her identity now!!! HA HA HA HA! Our Diana, I haven't had the pleasure of reading one of your recaps! I know it would be stellar....seriously, it would be so warm and relatable! Well, that was stated awkwardly...anywho, thanks for the clarification!

I'll change my name to Di!

Hey, Di! You are welcome to CARAY! Thank you! Everybody have a good night!

MÉDICOS #36, 9-2-20

Hola, Peeps! Welcome to the MÉDICOS Patio where all are welcome to discuss or dissect our little medical drama. I invite you all to be even more interactive this morning as obligations in the three dimensional world demand attention. I will attempt to give a broad summary of some events in an order which will not necessarily match the broadcast; you all feel free to add and expand on whatever you wish! Anita, blessings and healing grace to you and anyone else out there with a health or other challenge! Stay strong, Amiga, you are loved!

Sensitivity Alert. We are back with the sad and shocking scene of Cecelia lying in torturous repose, pale and bloodied, her wrists cut. Art jolts and cries out in shock, grabs his phone and calls for an ambulance. The EMTs pronounce Cecelia dead as she lies cradled in Arturo’s arms; he sobs, his face stained with blood and tears. Art calls Luis and tells him he has found Cecelia dead. He asks Luis to please tell Gonzalo what has happened and he asks Luis to help him with the paperwork. Once Luis comes over, he sits with Art, dressed in black; he offers him a coffee. Art’s pain is palpable as he weeps and blames himself for Cinthia’s death. Luis offers vigorous but sensitive objections that Art is NOT responsible: sometimes all our best efforts to help someone we love don’t work. This is a lesson Art knows all too well as he tells the story of his own Mother’s struggle with depression. He never openly discussed his Mother’s depression with his Father: it was a taboo subject. Art thought he could make her better by being close to her and taking care of her with loving attention and detail. His Mother took her own life. “I said it would never happen again, and now look,” Art cries bitterly. Luis is moved and admits he can’t imagine Art’s pain but asks him, again, not to blame himself. Luis briefly hugs an inconsolable Art. The next morning, still tearful, Art calls Regina and leaves a painful plea on her voicemail to call him. He promises he will pick his shift up the next day; he just needs to hear her voice.

The other action of the day is painful in another way. Rene and Miryea have launched an act of sabotage against Gonzalo, using the health and very lives of the patients as pawns! Scheduled maintenance of the AC system was not done because Rene tore up the requisition for that and other important duties. (Please see Anita’s recap posted Saturday, the double Congreso episode!) The whole Instituto is like a suana and we see the impact on various patients and all the staff along with repeated inquiries to Gonzalo as to what is happening. In one scene with Miryea, Rene says he’s going to “turn the heat up” even more on Gonzalo. I don’t know if this is purely figurative or if the SOB actually has the heat on! Please weigh in, Peeps!

MÉDICOS #36, 9-2-20

Further, and more odious, Miryea denies Victor pain medication, and lies on and slanders the Doctors and other staff while she roughly “cares for his wound.” She magnifies every complaint he makes and lies to Luis, who is busy with other patients, that Victor is asleep! Thus Victor goes without pain relief in the sweltering heat and doesn’t see a Doctor for a very long time. Miryea crows to a pleased Rene that Victor may not only sue the Instituto, but have himself, wife and son discharged to seek care elsewhere! Victor is even more enraged and agitated as he learns from Sandra that their son, Mauricio, is having emergency surgery. Victor wants his whole family out and he demands to see the Instituto Director about the neglect he has experienced at the hands of the inept medical staff! Rene goes to Victor’s room to twist the knife Miryea has inserted by making sure Victor knows the name of the Director, Dr. Gonzalo Olmedo who, incidentally, is not available to talk to Victor. Victor angrily orders Rene to leave his room! The snake does not mention that Dr. Olmedo is at that moment saving his son’s life and even prevented Miryea from giving Victor anything for pain! This is actually the final scene.

Sensitivity Alert. Mauricio has a dangerous increase in the swelling of his brain. He needs emergency surgery to open his skull to relieve the pressure. Gonzalo works with what looks like our whole ER team to perform an incredibly realistic looking procedure, successfully removing a collection of blood (intracranial hematoma) within Mauricio’s skull. Mauricio went into cardiac arrest during the procedure; Regina, David and others worked vigorously to resuscitate and keep him alive while Gonzalo continued with the craniotomy. Gonzalo was in his element! He thanks everyone and leaves. In a surprising development, the woman Luis had an affair with appears: she is Mauricio’s Pediatrician, Dr. Paulina _________ who was asked to come in and consult with the Insituto team. To say Art is shocked is an understatement. His emotional house seems to be dislodged from its foundation! For Paulina, it was not an amicable parting; she seems to have the emotional upper hand and makes several passive aggressive snipes at Luis. Peeps, you know the drill; fill in if you will!

In the hospital, Tania confronts Rafa about the Ketamine and rejects his weak cover that it’s for one of his patients. She is concerned that he is not accepting his problem and the damage he’s doing to himself; he needs to stop before it’s too late! On the way to the conference room and morning organizational rounds, Luis and Regina talk about the Cecelia tragedy. She wonders if it would be okay to see Art. Luis thinks it would be a very supportive gesture that Art would appreciate. In rounds, Regina rallies the ER staff to pull together to support Art in his time of need and do their usual teamwork to care for the patients. Luis offers that David would be the best one to cover Art’s OPC shift. David says he needs to be in the ICU for Mauricio and Victor. Rafa offers to cover the OPC. Later, as described above, Rafa is paged out of the OPC to attend the emergency surgery on Mauricio. Other miscellanea Ana bitches. Paco is having financial problems and asks for a week’s extension on his overdue rent for his little sandwich shop.

Okay, Peeps! Not a warm and fuzzy episode! Have at it! Hope to pop in from time to time!

Thanks Di!!

That will avoid confusion.

And yes, Lila - you are ever observant! I always sign my name at the bottom....

Back to work. Have a good day all!

MEDICOS

Absolutely spellbinding Lila.

Lila, “the sad and shocking scene of Cecelia lying in torturous repose, pale and bloodied, her wrists cut” mirrored the horror of that image with stark but crystal clear imagery.

And to learn Art’s mother took her own life was unfathomable and unbelievably heartbreaking.

“His emotional house seems to be dislodged from its foundation!” Perhaps I’m mistaken but the tongue-tied Luis was relegated to schoolboy status and still seems smitten.

“In one scene with Miryea, Rene says he’s going to “turn the heat up” even more on Gonzalo. I don’t know if this is purely figurative or if the SOB actually has the heat on!” perfectly captured the loathsomeness of Rene. I will echo what mi amiga Judy has often uttered – I cannot stand watching either Rene or Miryea. Literally and figuratively! 😊

“Gonzalo works with what looks like our whole ER team to perform an incredibly realistic looking procedure, successfully removing a collection of blood (intracranial hematoma) within Mauricio’s skull”. Your medical knowledge and understanding of what transpired is incredible. Thank you for translating all this very important information. Because of my own medical issues, this was a very difficult scene to watch. However, Gonzalo is indeed wasting his talent in an administrative role. He is a natural born surgeon/healer.

So Paco is over his head in debt. Was he just unable to keep up or is there a secret money drainer afoot?

Art is broken and will need his friends help to heal. Regina should make it clear she is supporting him in that capacity and nothing more, lest he mistake her concern for feelings she does not possess.

Lila, I'm in awe. Thank you.

Diana

MEDICOS 35/44

Gracias, Lila. We are now at the midpoint of this series. with a net loss of 7 episodes' worth or 16% of the total. There has been worse in the past.

Now we know at least some of Arturo's backstory and why he didn't break up with Cecelia sooner. Not that this was conscious awareness on his part, and if it wasn't he has more pain to come. He should talk to a shrink. Not Pamela, though and probably not Dr Garza, her mentor whom they sent Miss Roots to.

I am also worried about the fact that he was cradling her dead body when the EMT's were there. We didn't see who removed her body from the tub, nor did we hear instructions. If he did this without the EMTs telling him to, what will Rene make of this?

As to whether Rene was figurative or literal about the heat, I think it was both. In my opinion, there is no punishment big enough for him even though he is not yet responsible for a death. I do not see him being above killing Victor or even Mauricio in his mission to sabotage Gonzalo and the rest of the ER staff. I know I've already said this, but if Victor sues the hospital that could end with a Pyrrhic victory, meaning there would be no hospital left as Rene's little fiefdom.

Luis will go ballistic when he hears that Victor didn't get the pain medication and that he was told none was prescribed.

BTW his former side chick is Dr Paulina Serrano and she is portrayed by Laura Carmine, who was the vile Nuria of A Que No Me Dejas.

Medicos
Lila,,thank you so much. You explained so many things for me.

I was wondering why I saw both Reg and despicable Rat-Rene fanning themselves with papers. Reg even took off her turtleneck.

That first scene of Art with Cece was awful. We wonder if Reg will now feel the need to accept him and comfort him?

So Paco has financial trouble not a health issue. Perhaps he is in debt due to sending Daniel to med school.

Diana, knowing your story, I am sure that watching Mauricio's story was hard.

Everyone is now battling something as Rene and admirers stir the pot for their own greed and gain. Horrible , heartless, unscrupulous people.

MEDICOS

Thanks LILA. Great job on synthesizing and keeping it short enough to be manageable. I had to fast forward through every scene with Mireya seeding lawsuit potential and anything with her disgusting cohort Rene. Just. Cannot.

What a dramatic beginning to your recap...wow!

"Sensitivity Alert. We are back with the sad and shocking scene of Cecelia lying in torturous repose, pale and bloodied, her wrists cut. Very difficult to watch, but you captured it superbly.

And glad I was wrong about Paco's dementia, but now we need to know the cause of his financial problems. I imagine putting Daniel through med school was crippling, given the tight economy and also tight margins on any kind of small shop. Al of this is so hard to watch given the economic straits of so many in our own country right now. And all over the world.

As telenovelas go, this is no escape from reality. But as always, I love the warm and caring Patio that has formed around this, thanks in great part to you and your encouragement and lively participation LILA. Wishing you and everyone a good day, and a better tomorrow. (Still have not heard anything from ANITA unfortunately.)

Medicos

Whoops. "Admirers" was supposed to be " Mireya" ....autocorrect decided I meant admirerers. Story.... .autocorrect is not my friend.

Sending out love and prayers to Anita. I hoped that we hear from her soon .

It looks like we are not going to get much escape and relief from reality from this show with everyone dealing with their own problems. Everything seems pretty hopeless at this point. So who is going to comfort whom? I have a feeling that Art is going to be so devastated that Reg will feel responsible for helping him that will open the door for Art and that door will slam in David's face thus opening his door to the eagerly awaiting Ana. What's next?...Sergio reappearing ?

Medicos

Amazing recap Lila!! Downer of an episode, but your recap reads like a novel!

I don’t know if this is true in Mexico, but in the US an EMT cannot declare someone dead. Time of death has to be called by a doctor. So at the point when the EMT said there was nothing they could do, I figured Art already knew that. I assumed he was the one that had taken her out and he must have known she was deceased. I don’t foresee there being an issue with him taking her out of the tub- he is a doctor and it would make sense for him to attend to someone while waiting for EMTs to arrive. And I do think think this whole situation is going to mean a lot more of Arturo and Regina being together- either Art using as an excuse to want her nearby or Regina wanting to be near to comfort him.

You know, I’m starting to understand why Ana gets frustrated. Rafa goes to the clinic and leaves before seeing a single patient, and no other doctor goes to cover the clinic. David had to stay in ICU for Mauricio.. in the ICU Luis tells Paulina that Mauricio es not a cardiology patient but he is just there... for what? Hanging out? Why can’t he go to the clinic? Daniel and Cinthia already see patients on their own (without the supervision of the attendings), why can’t they go to the clinic?

I hate Rene and Mireya. But I did think it was funny that when Mireya was complaining about the AC Rene told her to make herself a paper fan like his, and in the next scene she’s actually making one lol

Medicos. Wonderful recap, Lila! Yep, Rene and Mireya have reached a very disgusting point. Jeopardizing patients' lives! Good heavens! I agree that Rene seems to have turned up the heat both figuratively and literally--for one thing, the subsequent scenes showed the hot physical atmosphere in the hospital getting even worse. I would hope that if there is a law suit from Victor that Mireya's behavior toward him comes out. "twist the knife that Rene has inserted"--excellent image, Lila! Mexico City is very large. What a coincidence that Mauricio's pediatrician should turn out to be the woman Luis had an affair with. Reminds me of a line from Casablanca.

Medicos

Just remembered! I wanted to ask if you guys understood what was going on with David and Regina this episode? Last time they saw each other they were flirting/trying to make each other jealous, but it was in good fun- things didn’t end on bad terms. Yesterday it seemed like David was angry at Regina, but I don’t know where that came from. I’m assuming Univision cut something because it does not make any sense.

MEDICOS

Getting slammed at work. Thank goodness the commute is easy! 😁 GRACIAS, Diana, Urban, Susanlynn, JudyB, UnOp, and SpanProf!!!! PLEASE KEEP TALKING, GUYS!

UnOp, I noticed David, too and after his talk with Cinthia he must fully realize he loves Regina but might feel he will lose her to the emotional black hole Art will become with Cecelia's suicide. He also had kept his foot in the door by chiding and aggravating the two of them, but with this huge, tragic grief possibly uniting Regina and Art, he may feel more sad than mad that he's lost his chance to win her heart.

I wanted Cecelia to harrass Art, not kill herself! Crikey! I'm hoping as painful as it is, this "resolution" of the issues between Art and Cecelia will lead her to support him as a friend, and nothing deeper. Diana said it best,

Art is broken and will need his friends help to heal. Regina should make it clear she is supporting him in that capacity and nothing more, lest he mistake her concern for feelings she does not possess.

Sorry for the blanket thanks! I'll check back in later. You guys are the best!❤

I wonder if tonight will be arts and crafts at the hospital with everybody making paper fans.

Médicos

Thanks, Lila. I appreciate all the deets. I was too chicken to watch some of last night's episode.

Poor Art. I'm wondering if he ever shared with Cecelia about his mother's suicide.

Diana, you are one tough cookie. So glad you're feeling better!

Luis's ex is very full of herself, delighted with Luis's nervousness around her. Uh-oh.

Welcome, Di!

Dulce Ambición

Andy, thanks for the summary. The ads piqued my interest about a cake decorater/baker unlucky in love. But all the snippets I've seen so far seem to be about the mafia.

I agree about Dulce Ambision. The previews looked great and it appeared to be something lighthearted so I had planned to watch it. BUT all I’ve heard is about bloodshed so I haven’t seen it

Medicos

No worries Lila! Real work comes first!!

MEDICOS

Ooops! Niecie! Hey, Girl! Thank you so much! If I can help people skip obnoxious people and scenes, sad or scary stuff; then I'm doing my job! Let's hope we can get some warm and fuzzies tonight. It's been rough! Like UnOp said the other day, we're over half way in this piece and our main lovers ain't lovin'!

DULCE AMBICIÓN

Dulce Ambición|A dona do pedaço starts off violently but if you watch the Brazilian teaser the rest is nothing like that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvqE5gPGvcQ

It has a very different look and rhythm to the Mexican and Turkish dramas. Watching just that little snippet in Portuguese shows how natural the acting is, and also how diverse the cast is, whereas they seemed to be mostly European descendants in the first capítulo.

Well, Maria da Paz has fled the countryside and landed in São Paulo, where she is employed by a wealthy woman (as one does in novela land). But soon enough, she faints on the job and her employer informs her that she is pregnant (also as one does in novela land). All she has left are the baking skills she learned at her grandmother's side!

DULCE AMBICIÓN

DI, WELCOME. And thanks for these interesting little snippets about the show. I watched the opener. And it would be lovely to watch it in Portuguese instead of Spanish. I spent a month in Brazil almost 60 years ago, when I only knew French. But I could follow my Brazilian friends' conversations if I had a starting point, and now with Spanish it would be even easier. And I love listening to songs in Brazilian Portuguese so it would be nice to hear it in a telenovela. Anyway, nice to have you aboard.
