Todo Por Mi Hija centers around Oyku, an intelligent and sensitive eight-year-old girl who is raised by her aunt. However, the woman abandons her and only leaves her a letter with the address of Demir Goctúrk, her father whom she never knew. The father is a criminal, a con man with very few skills, but a natural talent for getting into trouble. He never found out that his ex-girlfriend was pregnant with Oyku when they broke up. Despite being very irresponsible, Demir agrees to take care of his daughter in order not to go to prison. (That's all I know for now.)

Cihan catches up to Cennet. He calls for Melisa. Cennet begs Melisa to run. Cihan shouts, if you don’t come out, I’ll kill your sister. Melisa? Ok, One, two, three… Melisa yells, I’m sorry Cennet and she appears and runs to Cennet. The girls embrace. Cihan is in control again. Back to the cabin, move!
Selim and Arzu are at the entrance to the woods. The police are going to call off the search for the night; they will expand the search in the morning. Selim goes off on the police. Arzu has to calm him down. Arzu is sure Cihan won’t hurt the girls. She knows what Cihan wants. He won’t hurt the girls, he won’t….sounds like she’s trying to convince herself.
Cennet asks Melisa, why didn’t you run? Her answer is, because he was going to kill you. But what if he kills us both? It stinks to die alone, says Melisa. The girls are bonding. Cihan notices this.
Next morning Selim speaks with the police. They still haven’t found them. Mahir and Sema show up at Arzu’s. Mahir is upset, where is my daughter? She was kidnapped and you’re just telling me now?! He wants to know why. He blames Arzu. What did you do? Sema actually defends Arzu saying, you have no idea what this woman has been through. Arzu tries to quiet Sema. No, she must tell the truth. Arzu is marrying Cihan to save Melisa’s life.
Cihan has taken the girls to a beach. He ties them up together. The girls tell him their mom will never marry him. He doesn’t care about them or their mother. They will find out soon enough. The girls try screaming for help.
Sema asks what’s next. The police are looking, says Arzu. Selim can’t wait any longer, he takes off for the search and Mahir goes with him. Arzu stays behind; she’s waiting for Cihan’s call. Cihan checks in with one of his men; the police have arrested all the others. Ha, ha, is that a little old-fashioned address book Cihan has? He makes the call to Arzu. Cihan tells her to listen carefully, do as I say, and I’ll let your girls go. Whatever you want, Arzu replies. Arzu hears, falls silent and turns to leave. Sema and Mukaddes ask what is it? Where are you going? No answer from Arzu.
The girls are still yelling for help. Melisa says this is the end. At least we won’t be alone, says Cennet. Melisa has a confession: When I found out you were my sister, I felt something terrible. I crushed my love for you into pieces, but those pieces were very strong. I was happy when you left Selim at the altar but I felt sad, too. I decided I wouldn’t love you, but it was sad to see you hurt. Now I know why. I thought I kicked you out of my heart, but the pieces were still there. I’m sorry for all the mean things I did for all the pain. I truly regret it. If we make it out, I will do everything to make sure you marry Selim. I’ll even organize the wedding.
Arzu is in the car. We hear her inner dialog. She’s about to destroy the last trace of innocence she has left. What kind of mother doesn’t sacrifice herself for her children? She will take a life but save two. Her mind is made up. Her sense of justice ends here. I won’t be Kaya’s executioner, but I will plan everything.
Arzu meets up with Kaya. Kaya asks if they found the girls. No. Don’t worry we will find them. Arzu asks him to go with her. Of course. Where? To get my daughters. Did they find them? she just repeats she’s going to get the girls. Will you come? I already said yes, says Kaya.
Selim and Mahir are walking through the woods with the police, yelling for Cennet and Melisa.

Cennet was mad at herself for believing Melisa again and again. She couldn’t believe someone could be so cruel, especially after finding out they were sisters. She continues, Melisa, I chose to believe in you because you were my sister. I had no other choice. Today nobody else knows better than you how I feel. Cennet can still see the goodness in Melisa. Melisa thinks Cennet is very good and kind. Cennet says she knows two Melisas, one was the selfish brat and one that’s here crying and suffering with her now. Cennet says, this is the real Melisa, my sister.
Kaya and Arzu pull up. Kaya wants to know exactly what Cihan said to her. Cavidan, say something. Arzu is angry. She says, I feel my blood boil when you say that name. I don’t want anyone to call me that again. Kaya has the nerve to ask why she is so angry. Arzu indignantly tells him, you took 23 years of my life! My daughter’s lives are in danger because of you! Ok, ok. We are going to save Cennet and Melisa. Arzu isn’t done, she will never forgive Kaya because he doesn’t deserve it. And BTW, this is our last conversation. Kaya demands to know what Cihan wants in exchange. Are we here just to pick up the girls? Arzu tells Kaya, he wants you! Then I’ll get my children back. Tell me now if you want to back out. Kaya gives a slight smile.
The police find the cabin and some of the girls’ belongings. They head to the beach to search.
Kaya takes his gun and gets out of the car. He’s locked and loaded. Are you ready? he says to Arzu. He wants her to stay behind because this won’t be easy. Arzu wants to go along. Kaya says if it was really me Cihan wanted, he would have killed me already. He’s worried that Cihan will want to hurt Arzu. He promises Arzu he will protect the girls with his life. Arzu insist on coming and does. On the way she makes a quick call to the police—we have found the girls.
This is curious: Olzem pays Nilgun a not so friendly visit. She asks, how are things with Selim? Not so good, huh? Ozlem counsels, don’t drive your son away, respect his decision. Nilgun is clearly annoyed and thinks Ozlem shouldn’t be giving advice. This doesn’t bother Ozlem so she continues, you are someone who doesn’t know what it’s like to be loved. You never found love in this life. You think your obsession is love. Let your son be happy. That’s what true love is. This was a strange and very short visit. On the way out Ozlem says, let him be happy; don’t let your son repeat your fate. Those words seemed to reach Nilgun.
Cihan unties the girls. Arzu and Kaya come running up. Arzu is shouting for her daughters. Kaya says, let the girls go; I’m here, let the girls go. Cihan tells Kaya to drop his gun. Arzu tells him drop it. Kaya reluctantly throws the gun over to Cihan. Arzu pleads, now give me my daughters! Cihan takes the two guns in each hand and points them at the back of the girls’ heads. Arzu and the girls are screaming. Cihan shouts an order, get on your knees Kaya! He complies.
Cihan gives Cennet the gun and orders her, you will kill your father! Cennet is horrified. What? No!! Cihan says, if you want your sister to live, kill Kaya. Take the gun or I’ll kill Melisa. Kaya implores, I’m here, just shoot me! Cennet continues to babble, no puedo, no puedo. Cihan threatens to kill Melisa again. Cennet slowly approaches Kaya. She is hysterical.
dondi356
Kaya looks up at Cennet and says, I’m sorry sweetheart; forgive me for getting you involved in this. Cennet tells him she can’t do this, but Kaya says, yes you can. Do it for your sister. Suddenly, a gunshot rings out! It wasn’t Cennet. Cihan is shot and falls! Arzu shot Cihan!
Melisa and Cennet run to their mother. They are hugging and crying. Kaya picks up his gun and stares at the group. But Cihan is not dead. Arzu sees him sit up and point his gun at Kaya. Arzu is silent, she doesn’t warn Kaya. Cihan shouts to Kaya, I won’t die alone, you bastard! They exchange shots and Kaya falls. Cihan falls dead this time.
Cennet runs to Kaya, Dad! Kaya’s last words to his daughter: I was an idiot. You are such a good daughter. I didn’t deserve you. I’m so proud of you, sweetheart. I’m so sorry. I love you. Dad, dad, dad! Kaya is gone. She sobs over his body.
The police with Selim and Mahir finally show up. Melisa runs to her dad. Selim pulls Cennet away from Kaya. The police review the scene.
We hear Arzu’s inner voice again: I did what any mother would do. There’s no need to prove it. Once you become a mother there are no boundaries. I broke the boundary and would do it all over again. Old stories eventually end. Arzu starts to walk away. The girls run to their mother. They walk away hand in hand.
Time jump to 4 months later.
Cennet calls Arzu and asks, where are you? She tells Cennet she is at her father’s grave. It’s the grave of Mehmet Yilmaz, Mukaddes’ son. She lays flowers and says, forgive me for not coming sooner. I didn’t have the strength to do it. On the day you saved me, you said “I’ll protect your daughter no matter what”. You couldn’t keep your promise, maybe you were not at peace. Many nights I couldn’t sleep thinking of you. Your mother honored your promise. She took care of my baby. After all these years here I am. Mehmet, I found my daughter and she’s back with me. Now you can rest in peace.
Pinar says her goodbyes to Nilgun. Nilgun thought Pinar was going to stay. No, it’s time for her to go. I gather that Pinar was her only connection to Selim. Pinar hands Nilgun an invite to Selim’s and Cennet’s wedding. Pinar tells Nilgun, he doesn’t know how to talk to you, but he’s your son and he want you to be with him on the happiest day of his life. Nilgun didn’t want things to be this way. Pinar tells her there still time. See you soon.
Melisa is busy writing out invites. Cennet thinks back to Melisa promising to organize the wedding. She is keeping her word. Melisa still has a bratty streak though. She gossips about some friends and she only wants to invite single guys to the wedding. After all what’s a wedding for? Cennet answers it's when two people who love each other make their vows in front of everyone. No silly, that’s where the singles meet! She is only inviting single guys and girls.
Selim is there and he brings down trousseau that Mukaddes lovingly created for Cennet. Mukaddes says her mother used to say, a girl’s dowry shows her chastity and moral values. Cennet is grateful for her abuela. She is her crown.
Melisa gets word the wedding band had an accident and must cancel. It’s three days to the wedding! Where is she going to find a replacement? You can’t have a wedding without music! Not to worry, Selim has a friend, Cem. He’s a musician and he’ll help them out. Melisa asks, is he single? Perfect!
Sema is walking the hall. She hears the baby crying. She goes in but can’t wake Ozlem. She talks to the baby; he smiles and her heart melts. Sema can’t resist and she picks him up. Do you know who I am? Your abuela! Bear your grandfathers name with pride. Be honest, strong and fair like him. He smiles at Sema again!
dondi356
Arzu is at the mirror. She thinks back to Kaya and Cihan shooting each other. She starts to cry. Is she feeling guilty about Kaya? Cennet comes in and asks what’s wrong? Why do you ask? Cennet says you and I never talked about that day. I wanted to but you always avoid it.
Arzu recounts that day. She took Kaya to turn him in to Cihan in exchange for her girls' release. Cennet says Arzu did the right thing. Is that why she feels bad? Arzu says she saw but didn’t warn Kaya when Cihan pointed his gun. She couldn’t do it. Kaya would have made it alive. She wanted him to die and be out of their lives for good. She hated Kaya until he died. But he was Cennet’s father and whenever she saw him, she thought of Cennet. Now she only sees her beloved beautiful daughter.
She asks Cennet to forgive her. Cennet says, you did the right thing for your daughters, for your whole family. Would you do it over again? Of course! Cennet tells Arzu, then don’t think about it anymore; bury your past and forgive yourself. I found my mother. Wasn’t it worth it all? Of course!
Sema tells the baby a tale. Mahir comes in and listens, too. There once was a baby who was ready to come into the world. He says they are sending me but I’m very little and not that strong. The baby was told they found an angel to help him. The angel will protect him and sing for him. The angel will smile and share its love and he will be happy the rest of his life. The baby heard there are mean people in this new world. Who will protect him? Your guardian angel, of course. Then voices reached from the earth to the sky. The baby realized it was time to go and asked, what is my angel’s name? They smiled and said the name is not important. Only call her “mother”. Sema’s tale weaved through the following scenes with Selim and Nilgun and Arzu and Cennet.
Selim is out walking. Nilgun comes up to him. I thought I was protecting you; I was wrong. Can you forgive me? Selim answers, mom, I only want to be happy and in peace. Nilgun wants that, too. She says, is there room for me in that world? They hug it out. Aww.
Cennet and Arzu go to sleep in the same bed.
Mahir asks Sema to let go of any bitterness. Let’s live happily ever after. You have another grandchild; he will grow up next to you. Sema complains that Ozlem wants to call the baby something other than Riza. Not to worry, Mahir will take care of that.
Arzu’s phone rings and wakes her. It’s Kaya! She doesn’t want to answer but she must. Kaya calls to her, Cavidan…Cavidan. Arzu says, aren’t you dead? He responds, come meet me in the garden. Come to me Cavidan. I’m waiting for you. Arzu makes her way out to the garden. And we see Kaya standing there.
They face each other. Arzu exclaims, you died! I saw you! He tells her, I deserved to die. I did die. It wasn’t your fault. Arzu holds her head and screams, I hate you so much! I should’ve killed you with my own hands! Kaya continues, men like me should die. It doesn’t matter how. Arzu asks, what do you want? Kaya responds, I want nothing. This was not your fault. Goodbye for good, Cavi…Arzu. He turns and goes. Arzu yells after him, don’t ever come back! Arzu falls to her knees and cries, never again! Never again! And she sits bolt upright in bed. It was a dream.
It's wedding day! Arzu asks Cennet how she feels. Cennet is feeling exited, frightened. They’ve been so happy, like a dream and she’s afraid something bad will happen. Arzu says she deserves her happiness. Time to get dressed.
Nilgun is ready. Selim comes down. How handsome! Nilgun looks beautiful, too. Nilgun wants grandchildren soon. Selim would like a boy and a girl. He’s leaving to get Cennet. Nilgun asks if she can go with him. He says of course.
dondi356
Mukaddes is complaining that Melisa didn’t finish her makeup. Arzu helps her. Mukaddes is so happy. Arzu can never repay her for all that she’s done for them. Selim has arrived. Melisa and Cennet have some sister time before they go. Melisa wants Cennet to be happy and she hopes there are some handsome guys there for her. (I have to say I liked Cennet’s first wedding dress much better and don’t like this hair style on her.)
Selim sees his bride. Cennet goes to Selim. Family applauds and Cennet and Selim walk out arm in arm.
We are at the wedding venue. The couple walks out to applause and head to the table. The judge starts the vows. Cennet, do you take Selim? She shouts, I do! I do! I do! (I guess this to makes up for when the didn’t). And Selim, do you take Cennet? I do! The witnesses agree! Selim and Cennet are finally marido y mujer! They sign the license. Melisa yells, step on his foot (so she will be the boss in the marriage) and Cennet does.
Everyone is hugging and kissing and giving best wishes to the happy couple. Nilgun apologizes to Mukaddes. She promises to treat Cennet as her own daughter.
Time to party! Cem is singing. Bride and groom are dancing. Melisa turns to look at the singer. It’s like a bolt of lightning hits her. She is smitten. Cem notices Melisa too. He starts singing to her. Selim and Cennet take notice. After the song is over, Selim and Cennet go to talk to Cem. Melisa makes her way over and Selim introduces her to Cem. Selim’s friend is actually Cem Belevi, a Turkish pop singer.
Mahir goes over to Arzu. They are looking a Melisa and Cem flirting. Mahir wants to interfere, but Arzu tells him, let your daughter go. She’s an adult now. Everyone is so happy. Mahir asks what about you, Arzu? Are you happy? Arzu looks around and nods, yes. She gets up from the table and walks away. Cennet tells Selim she wants to go to her mother.
Arzu sits in a quiet place. She’s teary. Cennet asks if she’s ok. Are you happy? Very much! Arzu asks Cennet for truth. Did you forgive me? Do you feel resentment? Cennet replies, I know you love me. I have no ill feelings. Melisa comes over. Arzu tells her girls, she had forgotten what happiness was. She wants to enjoy this day with her two girls. Cennet says we won’t shed anymore tears. We will be happy, the three of us. There is nothing more to life.
Inner voice of Arzu once again: I faced destiny far beyond I ever imagined. I became a woman when I was still very young. I longed for the scent of my baby. I protected myself like the woman I am from a very young age. I had to go through everything. I just couldn’t be happy.
Come on, says Arzu, let’s go. They return to the reception holding hands, smiling. Cennet goes to Selim and Melisa goes to Cem and they dance. We hear the words to the theme song.
Arzu’s inner voice for the last time: My destiny landed on my lap like a big ball of fire. It burned me and I turned into ashes. I rose from the ashes and I burned again. But nothing ever stopped me and I never gave up. I told you…my past was my destiny.
Arzu looks on at her daughters. She is beaming with joy!

WOW!! What can I say? dondi356, this was an absolutely amazing, outstanding, sensational, terrific, phenomenal, superlative, fantastic, incredible, extraordinary, spectacular, mind-boggling recap! (Have I told you I loved it?)
Among the many many things I enjoyed were your comments (e.g., "Kaya has the nerve to ask why she is so angry") and your wording ("He’s locked and loaded"). You also clarified something that I should have realized but did not. For example, when Cennet says to Arzu "you and I never talked about that day," I assumed she was referring to the day Arzu saved her from being raped, since several times that has been mentioned, always as "that day." But of course this time Cennet is referring to the dramatic day in the finale when Arzu shoots Kaya. I'm embarrassed that I didn't realize that until I read your recap. Thanks, too, for explaining why Melisa told Cennet to step on Selim's foot during the wedding ceremony. I'd never encountered that custom before. I was also interested to learn that Cem is actually a Turkish pop singer. That's easy to believe, but it never occurred to me that that might be the case.
Thanks too for pointing out that Sema's fairy tale to her grandson weaves through the later scenes with Selim and Nilgun and Cennet and Arzu.
I agree with you about preferring Cennet's first wedding gown, but I rather liked her new hair style.
dondi356, though I'm in awe of your recap, I have to confess that I was NOT in awe of the two-hour finale. It felt like an exaggerated version of the old-fashioned novelas where all the good people are happy happy happy in the end. The excess sweetness almost sent me into a diabetic shock, even though I don't have diabetes. I guess the problem is that there was about 1¼ hours of compelling content, which led to having to fill 2 hours of programming. Perhaps the novela writers wouldn't agree, but that's the way it seemed to me. But I'm very glad I watched the novela, and I'm very very grateful to you not just for your wonderful recaps but also for all the background information you generously supplied. ¡Muchísimas gracias!
Thank you SO MUCH for your very kind words, Juanita! And many thanks for sharing the recapping, too. You’re a master recapper. I always enjoy reading your recaps and comments.
This was not a great final, but this was not exactly a great TN. IMHO, they could have used that last 45-60 minutes more wisely. There were lots of loose ends.
What ever happened with Ozlem’s co-conspirator, Senol? I'm still not clear on their ultimate goal to swindle the Soyers.
Are we to believe that Mahir and Ozlem are now a couple (besides being a couple of dopes)? Ozlem wasn’t going anywhere until she became a Soyer!
Why wasn’t Suna at the wedding? Whatever happened to Suna’s son, Omer, and Cennet’s best friend from the orphanage, Beste? Those two were sweet on each other. As far as I remember, Omer and Beste totally disappeared halfway through the series without explanation.
What ever happened to Nejat, who rescued Cennet from the car fire? He disappeared, too. Seemed like he would figure into Melisa’s schemes and get between Selim and Cennet.
Does Arzu still have shares and does she still work at SR Group now that she’s divorced Mahir?
From what I’ve gathered, this series was meant to have more episodes. But ratings rule the day, and it was canceled, prompting quick rethinking, rewriting and a lot of slicing and dicing. I’ve seen this happen with other Turkish dizis and it’s maddening, especially when the actors are favorites and the story has potential. At least they gave us a happy ending this time. It’s not unusual for Turkish dizis to have unhappy endings!
If this series continued, I think we would have had more Kaya vs Cihan and more backstory of these characters. Turan’s relationship with Cihan’s wife would have had relevance. And my questions above would have been explored/answered/resolved.
dondi356
I am "new" here--was looking for some answers after the Gran Finale...and delighted to run across this site and your awesome recap!
Like you, I wondered who ended up with Mahir...and agree that many questions went unanswered. (Did anyone ever tell Sema what really happened to Riza?)
Anyway, I'm a fan of your detailed recap--thanks!
--J in Oregon
dondi356, I'm glad to know that you too feel they could have done a better job with the last half of the gran final. You're right, there were lots of loose ends. For me the two that stood out involved Senol (and esp. did he mess with the DNA report) and Nejat. Why did they bring him in at such a late date only to forget about him? As you say, Melisa seemed to have intentions to use him, but then...nothing.
J in Oregon, Welcome! I'm glad you found us. Hope you'll stay. A new Turkish novela, Todo por mi hija, starts tonight at 9 pm.
Parte 1 de 3
Istanbul
We open in a classroom. The children are reading aloud to the class what they wrote in their notebooks about their families. One child, a girl, Oyku, is staring out the window. When urged by the teacher she begins (I think pretends) to read. She says that her aunt (whom we later find out is called Zeynep Kaya) cares for her since her parents died. She paints a picture of a caring home. But, while she says these things we see how her life really is.
She usually comes home from school, cooks, and does the laundry. The tía comes home, gives Oyku something (money? not sure), pats her on the head, and, I assume, goes to bed.
Oyku gets on the subway to go home. She gives herself a test, closing her eyes and naming all the subway stops until her stop, the last one. She gets them all. When she arrives home and opens the door with her key, the apartment is empty of furniture. In one of the rooms we see a large, packed suitcase and there’s a letter.
“Dear Oyku: I can’t care for you anymore. The name and address of your father are in this letter. Find your father. His name is Demir Goctúrk.”
We then see this guy running like a zebra through the streets. There are two guys chasing him and they chase him a loooong time. He manages to get away and into his apartment and yells at the top of his lungs for a man he calls Ugur. Demir tells Ugur he had to run from Akif’s men. How could Ugur not have told him the painting was a fake? Ugur whines some and says that he promised Demir’s father that he’d look out for him.
While Demir is in the process of throwing Ugur out, the police come to arrest Demir. Ugur promises to get him a lawyer.
Oyku gets on a bus to go to Demir’s place. She is struggling up a long flight of stairs with that suitcase when she meets Ugur descending. She says who she’s looking for and even shows him the letter. A light bulb does off over Ugur’s head. He calls the lawyer he’s to meet and says he has a way of getting Demir out.
When Ugur tells Demir (who's inside a holding cell) his plan, Demir yells that he doesn’t have a daughter. Then the next scene is Demir standing in the dock telling the judge he can’t be separated from his child. Her mother kept her from him and now she’s run off. Oyku is brought into court, and she reads the letter out loud. It works. Demir gets out, but his lawyer tells him outside the court that, if he doesn’t comply and care for his daughter, he’ll be in big trouble.
Parte 2 de 3
Demir shows through most of this episode how selfish he is. He tries to get Ugur to take the girl. Ugur takes off. Demir tells Oyku that he isn’t her father. She walks away from him. He asks where she’s going and she says: “If you aren’t my father, then you lied to the judge. And, if I don’t tell him, I’ll also be lying and may go to prison.” He finally resorts to telling her it was a joke.
He keeps underestimating her. He wants to confirm for himself that the auntie is gone. She tells him which metro stop they must take and has to pay his fare as well as her own. The house is indeed deserted and there’s a For Rent sign on one window. When they go to the building manager’s office, he tells Demir that they had lived there less than a year, the aunt paid her rent on time, and he doesn’t know why she took off like that. Oyku tells Demir that she had some suspicions of her own about her tía. She never came to school even though they asked her to do so. She had nothing to do with the neighbors, and she only used cash, never credit cards.
Oyku says she’s hungry and they go to a restaurant. Oyku thought that Demir would have a credit card so isn’t worried about the cost. But she finds out that he has no money. His plan is for Oyku to pretend to have been made sick by the food. They’ll get by without paying and the manager will even pay for a taxi for them to avoid problems.
Oyku isn’t buying this plan. She walks over to a lovely woman we later find out is called Candan Hosgor. [Note: I don’t really know how to put anything except Spanish diacritical marks in text, so I’m going to give up on the Turkish ones.] While Demir looks on, trying to figure out what she’s doing, Oyku offers to tell the woman’s fortune using cards. She tells Candan that her aunt taught her. The woman is charmed by Oyku. Oyku returns to the table and gives Demir the money to pay their check. Demir keeps staring at Candan
Demir’s house is a total mess. He collapses on the couch to watch TV, while Oyku tries to clean up.
Candan is a large animal vet. We see that she’s kind when she lets the farmer whose calf she helped deliver slide on the bill. She gets a call from an attorney to say that her father has died. Apparently she hasn’t seen him for years. Later we see her meet with Selim, the attorney, who says that her father’s will divided his property between Candan and her older brother. The brother got the business and she gets his house in Arnavutkoy, the furniture, and some valuable paintings. She insists she doesn’t want the house. Apparently Arnavutkoy is a historic part of Istanbul. She wants to sell the house and the paintings.
Later we see Candan taking sheets off furniture (presumably in that house) and looking very sad. I don’t think good things happened to her in that house.
At Casa Demir, he orders in some food. While she’s eating and asking why he doesn’t ever cook at home, Ugur shows up. They send her to bed with her half eaten food. Apparently there’s only one bed, so she’s in Demir’s bed.
Parte 3 de 3
In the moring Ugur notices that Oyku is not in the apartment. He tries and tries to get Demir to wake up and do something. What works is Ugur telling him that the judge will be all over him if she’s missing. But she’s only gone out to shop for food.
Candan has gone to see a horse with a limp. She gets a call from Selim who says there is a private collector interested in the three paintings she inherited. Some experts will examine them within the next two days.
Oyku makes a really tasty breakfast. She gets insulted, though, when Ugur calls her cerebrito (egghead, brainy person). She gets up from the table and tells them that she has to brush her teeth, comb her hair, put on her uniform, and go to school. She has things to do, unlike the two of them.
After she leaves the room Ugur tells Demir that they have a new job. Demir sneers at this. Ugur says there is a woman named Candan Hosgor (!), a veterinarian. Her father just died. She inherited a house and three valuable works of art. His contact tells him the paintings are worth a fortune. They’ll pretend to be the experts, offer a third of what they’re worth, take the paintings along to his intermediary, and get their “commission” on this. Demir doesn’t want to do it.
Just then Oyku walks into the room. “You two are thieves!”
Dondi356: I'm assuming you've watched last night's episode ? Roxanna keeps digging herself a bigger hole.
Thank you, Novelera! What a grand job you did of kicking this story off! It seems that this is a drama with some hints of comedy thrown in???
Demir and Ugur are quite the pair, but Okyu is such a wonder isn't she? I suppose she has actually raised herself and has become quite self-sufficient...more so than any of the adults around her. I'm going to enjoy watching her turn her flagrant father around.
Thanks again!
What a terrific recap, novelera! You've captured everything with wonderful clarity, which will help the rest of us follow what's happening.
I was happy to see that the plot developed very quickly. What I don't understand is why Ugur or Demir would think of trying to pose as art experts to evaluate a painting right after Demir gets chased and arrested for some kind of con where they didn't know that the painting in the con was a fake. But surely that won't stop them, since episode one makes it clear that the plot is likely to involve Candan in a major way.
I love it that Oyku is so smart and resourceful. In that way, she reminds me a bit of Teresa Mendoza's daughter in La Reina del Sur 2.
I enjoy her critizing Demir for living in a pigsty and for saying !Maldita sea!, a grosero
Gotta run. I've got a Zoom session in a few minutes. Again, many thanks for getting us started with such an excellent recap.
dondi356 this was fast past and not
A dull moment. You done good girl.
I like the bonding between the two
Sisters while in bondage. They were
Very honest with each other. I liked what cennet said to her baby
Siser. And what baby sister said to
Big sister. That was a good bonding
Experience they had. If that don't bring you close nothing will.
I was not liking nilgun for a while
But she changed my mind, with the help of ozlem. As screwed up as she is she gave her ex-sister inlaw a good bit of advice, and it helped her see the light. Good for her.
Iam liking these turkish tns, they
Are quite interesting. Id like to
See another one with barrak what's- his-name in it.
I gotta tell ya I was thinking one time that kaya was gonna change and he did, at death. But you cant go raping folks and expect to have a happy family from it. That just dont work. At all. Well he let arzu off the hook in a nightmarish like dream. Happy happy! joy joy!
Loved that scene with sema & little riza. I liked that story she told him too.
So did mahir marry ozlem or what? I'll Leave there. He didnt look to interested anyhoo.
Ok more bonding with mom and daughters. Sweet.
Mukaddas is a pretty cool grandma.
Thank you dondi356 and Juanita for your recapping skills. And anybody else I missed. Yall Made this so enjoyable. Thank you, now yall stay
Safe.♡
Thanks for the appreciation, Juanita and Rgv Chick. Juanita, you are right. The dubbed Spanish is a lot easier to follow than the more normal, colloquial speech in other novelas, including the fact that in those they talk over each other.
I enjoyed the first episode. So far the only mystery I see is what happened with Candan and why she avoided her father for years. Oyku will obviously win over her father.
According to Mr. Google, the little girl is a well-known child actor in Turkey. She's perfect in this role. I hate it when child actors ham it up so badly I want them to have fewer scenes.
So far we really don't have a villain. Even Ugur followed through on his promise to get Demir a lawyer.
How beautiful is Istanbul! A friend and her husband visited just last year. It was one of the stops on a cruise they took.
Thank you so much for starting us off with your terrific recap, novelera. Great to have you back recapping and commenting.
I agree with the other comments posted, not much else for me to add.
This Turkish dizi is based on a Korean drama.
Beren Gökyildiz is a great young actress. I saw Buğra Gülsoy in Fatmagül and Volver a Amar (Aşk Yeniden). Both were on daytime Telemundo a while back.
I've noticed in Turkish series they use a lot more natural settings as opposed to sets. IMHO, this adds a certain charm. You really get a feel for the people and places. Istanbul does look beautiful; I'd love to visit someday. It also has some of the world's worst traffic and that is often referenced in the shows.
I’m looking forward to watching Hija and I hope a few more will be joining us.
Are we setting up a recap schedule?
dondi356
Hi dondi356, I'm glad you'll be watching this, too. I don't think we've set up a recap schedule, but I'll be happy to do one for tonight's episode. It would be great if we could find two more people, so that each would do just one per week.
This weekend. I didn't know it was Turkish. That little girl looks sweet. Shes gonna teach her daddy some stuff about being a daddy. I may enjoy this one too.
Oyku tells Demir and Ugur that she overheard them, and she knows they are thieves. Ugur insists they're not thieves, they're...artists. Oyku asks what sort of artists. Ugur's explanation convinces her: "you're con artists, and I'm calling the police." They persuade her not to do this, and Demir tells Ugur that he's got to get rid of her ASAP.
Candan, the lovely young veterinarian we met in yesterday's episode attending the birth of a calf, is this time treating a horse with a leg problem. She sees something stuck in the horse's hoof (looks like a large splinter), removes it, and all is well.
Demir and Ugur drive Oyku to school. She asks Demir for money, telling him her aunt always gave her 1000 pesos when she left for school. Demir gives her money. When Oyku enters the classroom, one of her classmates asks her who that man was who drove her to school. Oyku tells her it's her father. "I thought you didn't have a father," says the classmate. "Well, now I do."
Demir is worried: if he has to give Oyku 1000 pesos every day, that's 30,000 pesos per month. That's very expensive. He says he has to get rid of her after they do this job. Ugur is delighted that Demir has decided to take the job where they pose as art experts.
Demir and Ugur go to see Mr. Jilet, the guy who has told them about the job posing as art experts. He tells them they should offer 130,000,000 [presumably in Turkish currency] for the three paintings. Demir wants to know what the real value is. He's told not to ask questions. Jilet hands Demir and Ugur some information about paintings and artists and tells them to study the information well. The owner has to believe that they're real experts. Included in the information is information about the owner, Candan Hosgor, including a photo. Demir remembers seeing her at the restaurant the day before, when Oyku approached her and read her fortune. The look on Demir's face makes Jilet ask, "Is there a problem?" They assure him that there's no problem.
After school, Oyku takes the subway to Demir's house. She tries to memorize the stations, as she did when she lived with her aunt. She hasn't got the new set of stations down pat yet, but she does apparently get out at the right stop. When she arrives at Demir's house, she finds the door locked. Stretching up as high as she can, she reaches the doorbell, and rings several times, accompanied by kicking the door and yelling "Demir!" No one responds. She then sees a cute dog that she calls Mistik. She picks the dog up and sees that he has a wounded leg. She remembers the card Candan gave her the day before, with her name and the address of her vet clinic. "I'll save you," she assures Mistik. She takes the dog and goes off to the subway. Seeing a security guard at the station, Oyku puts Mistik inside a large cloth bag and walks past the not very observant guard.
When Oyku gets out of the subway, she finds herself in pouring rain. She doesn't let that stop her and arrives at the address on the card. Candan sees her, recognizes her, calls out "Oyku?" and asks her to come inside. Oyku is very impressed with Candan and tells her that she, too, loves animals and intends to be a vet when she grows up. Candan says "well, in that case, help me. Hold the dog down." She treats the dog and assures Oyku that Mistik will be better soon. Oyku offers to pay with her school money, but Candan refuses to take anything. She tells Oyku to call her mother and have her pick her up.
Oyku informs Candan that she doesn't have a mother. OK, your father, then. Oyku is pleased to say she has a father, but she can't call him, because she doesn't know his phone number. Candan then drives her to Demir's house, but no one is home. Candan says that Oyku--and Mistik--can come stay with her until her father is back. When they arrive, Oyku hears a dog bark. Candan tells her she has a dog, but it's quite friendly to other dogs. Oyku asks about the house, and Candan tells her it's the house where she grew up.
Ugur and Demir arrive at Demir's house, and Ugur realizes that Oyku isn't there. "You forgot your daughter," he tells Demir. Demir doesn't seem concerned. He's more interested in calling a woman he knows (Selin?) and asks her whether she has plans for the evening.
At Candan's, Oyku has slept for a while, and Candan has washed and dried her school uniform. She gives her other clothes to wear. "Are these your daughter's?" Oyku asks. Candan replies that she doesn't have a daughter; the clothes were hers when she was young. Oyku is ready to return to her house. She explains to Candan that she always takes the subway and she knows all the stations. Candan insists on driving her. When they get to the house, Candan waits to be sure Oyku can get in before she leaves her.
Oyku enters her father's place and sees four people playing cards--Demir, Ugur, and two women. Demir sees the dog and insists that it's not staying in the house. The women take more kindly to the dog, but Demir wants it out. When Oyku picks the dog up, he sees the bandaged leg. At first, I thought he was going to let the dog stay, but no, he didn't, but he did take along a pillow for the dog to use.
Back inside, Oyku asks Demir for his phone number. "What for?" he asks. "So I can call you. Write it down and I'll memorize it." The women comment to Demir that Oyku is sweet and he should be nice to her, but he just tells her to go to her room and do her homework or whatever.
Oyku comes out of the room and says she wants to join the card game. "My aunt taught me," she says. [At this point, I seem to have been distracted. I think she wound up winning substantially, but I couldn't check because my DVR didn't record the episode.] At any rate, I think she overhears Ugur tell Demir not to worry about the money, because in two days they'll make 65,000,000. She hears Ugur metnion Candan. She concludes that they want to cheat Candan.
Meanwhile, Candan receives an email [I think from her lawyer, but I'm not sure] saying he doesn't know why she isn't answering her brother's calls. He understands that she wants to stay in the house, but he wonders whether she'll be able to stay after what happened. [novelera, it looks as if your suspicion is on target.]
Oyku starts coughing. Demir gives her some medicine. She complains that the medicine is for adults and might make her sick. Demir reluctantly goes to the pharmacy and gets a child's version of the medicine. Oyku tells him she doesn't feel well, and her throat hurts. She asks him to make tea with honey. "If you don't, I'll cough in your face." He goes out again to buy the ingredients. He makes the tea, but not the way she wants it. She then tells him her stomach hurts, and she asks for something to deal with a stomach ache. He gives her a hot water bottle and then yells at her. She cries. He says she needs to go to the hospital. She pleads with him not to take her to the hospital. (She remembers her aunt being sad, and asking her aunt if she was sad because of what the doctor said. She tells the aunt not to worry, "nothing will happen to me.") She asks Demir to make her chicken soup.
Her request for chicken soup is the last straw--he's taking her to the hospital. No, no, she pleads, but to no avail. At first, the car doesn't start, but he messes with stuff under the hood and gets the car to start. When they arrive at the hospital, Oyku refuses to get out of the car. She tells him she's not going, and if he tries to force her, she'll scream and the police will come.
She wins. Demir takes her to Ugur's mother's house. The mother says she'll make chicken soup. The mother also talks about what a wonderful, honest son she has. Oyku informs Demir that she won't say anything to Ugur's mother to disillusion her because the mother is so warm-hearted, loving (cariñosa). Oyku doesn't want to disturb her. Eventually, Demir brings Oyku home, asleep. He looks at her as she sleeps. He touches his nose, traces its form, and then looks at her face. Does he see a resemblance that makes him think perhaps she really is his daughter?
The next day, Oyku is well enough to go to school. As soon as they drop her off and leave, she races off to catch the bus. She just misses it. "How will I get to Candan's house?" she asks herself. She sees someone get out of a taxi, and she gets in. The taxi driver thinks she should wait for her mother. She assures him she has money, and she's in a hurry.
Demir and Ugur, looking very respectable in suit jackets, arrive at Candan's. She comes to the door. Demir takes off his sunglasses to stare at her (even in a suit, he doesn't look all that different from when he saw Candan at the restaurant--wouldn't she recognize him, especially since Ugur introduces him to Candan by his real name?).
The taxi carrying Oyku gets stuck in a massive traffic jam. Oyku, desperate to get to Candan's before Demir and Ugur arrive, finally gives the taxi driver some money and leaves on foot.
The scene shifts to the state prison, where someone named Semal is being wished good luck as he is being released from jail. He looks strong and, perhaps, not a nice guy. I guess we'll find out.
Demir looks at some of the paintings hanging on the wall at Candan's house. He identifies the artist of each one, although he gets the first name of one of them wrong. Candan then asks him what his offer is. As Jilet instructed, he replies 130 million for the three paintings. She asks, "Do you have a pen?" "A pen?" he replies. "Yes, a pen, to sign with." Neither Demir nor Ugur has a pen, so Candan leaves the room to get one. As soon as she leaves, Demir and Ugur are exultant. They're about to be very rich. Candan returns with a pen and is about to sign when the doorbell rings. Of course, it's Oyku. Candan invites her in. Demir and Ugur see her. She sees them. Demir gives her a threatening look. "I have something very important to tell you, Candan," says Oyku, as the episode ends.
Thank you Novelera for the beginning of what looks to be a very good story. I knew this young lady will the adult in This story until Daddy grows up. This will be very entertaining which is what we need these days. Looking forward to more of this good natured story.
Thank you Novelera. Stay safe girl.
Thank you so much, Juanita for delivering a very solid recap.
The first two episodes moved so quickly; it will be great to have recaps and discussion.
Thinking about Demir and his serious anger management issues. He’s so obnoxious, he never spontaneously smiles. What caused his damage? We got a clue when Ugur mentioned Demir’s father and his promise he would take care of him. That stopped Demir dead in his tracks. “Don’t mention my father” was the response. Both Demir and Candan have unresolved issues with their fathers.
A few things:
I don’t think Candan noticed Demir in the restaurant, but he sure noticed her. It was Demir who introduced himself to Candan. We know that he’s smitten with Candan, and I guess he forgot himself for a moment. Ugur was ticked he used his real name; professional estafadores would never do that. Those two are really a couple of bunglers and I suppose that makes them more easily redeemable.
I think Candan received that email from her brother. The brother would be more likely to know the family secrets. But I could be wrong.
Hope we see more of Ugur’s mother. She was so sweet and funny.
Wondering, too, if Cemal is the villain novelera was expecting.
Something is up with Oyku’s health. Is that why she repeats the stops from memory every time she rides the Metro? Please don’t let this series have a sad ending!
I can do the recap tonight.
dondi356
Thanks very much, dondi356, for your interesting and insightful comments, e.g., your pointng out that both Demir and Candan have unresolved issues with their fathers. I confess that there were several places in my notes where I had expected to double check with the recording (I was NOT going to watch the entire recording; I simply made note of the time of each point I wanted to check). To my dismay, I found that the DVR had not recorded this episode, so I had to go with my best guess each time.
One place where I felt more confident was the sender of the email to Candan. I remembered that the email mentioned "your brother's calls," and I thought that wording suggested the writer was someone other than the brother, since he would have said "my calls." But just now, after you raised the issue, I took a quick look at the scene on Telemundo's web site, and you're right: the brother is the writer.
I too suspect that C/Semel may be the novela's villain.
Thanks for offering to do a recap of tonight's episode. I'm really looking forward to it.
Thanks so much, Juanita for the excellent recap!
Glad to see you here, Nina!
Dondi, we're on the same wavelength. Cemal tooootally looks like he could be the villain we're missing in the novela. It crossed my mind that he could be Candan's brother, but I suspect the attorney (Selim?) would have known if her brother was in the slammer.
I thought it was mentioned in the first episode that Demir did not have a car. But then he did. Maybe I misheard.
Well, we got our first instant telenovela illness/fever. Nearly every time a protagonist gets caught in a rainstorm or out in the cold for some reason, the incubation period is hours rather than days.
We saw another instance of Candan's kindness and love of animals. When the owner of the race horse said something about wanting the horse to be able to race soon, a look of concern crossed her face. Also, this owner said that the same horse used to kick the vet who treated him before Candan.
Yes, I also suspect something about Oyku's health. Her fear of the hospital was over the top.
Many thanks, novelera. You, dondi356, and I seem to agree about Cemal. I wonder whether he's got a grudge against Demir. He definitely looks like he's got a grudge against someone.
I enjoyed your comment about telenovela illnesses/fevers. My mother never saw a telenovela, but she seemed to have the same notion: getting wet meant almost immediate illness. Of course, telenovela illnesses can have a duration much shorter than my mother (or I) was familiar with. Oyku has a high fever, a sore throat, and a stomach ache, a combination that seemed to me quite worrisome, but the next day she's ready for school--or, rather, for skipping school, racing for the bus, taking a taxi, and then running to get to Candan's. If she has a health problem, it wasn't obvious to me from last night's episode (though if both you and dondi356 suspect she has one, my money would be on the two of you being right).
About Demir’s car: after Demir and Oyku left the courthouse, she asked him if he had a car. His response was when they arrest you, they don’t let you take your car.
Oyku’s illness: Telenovela medicine is a world-wide phenomenon! Juanita, the chicken soup must have been the instant cure. I think every Italian and Jewish grandma would swear to that. Ugur’s mom also said Oyku should take a nice bath and she would be fine in the morning. That scene made me think of my grandmas.
dondi356
Thank you Juanita for a great detailed recap!
After watching Cennet, I am really liking the feel of the Turkish novelas, and enjoying the characters. Funny how some of the novela tropes seem to be the same around the world. The hint of Oyku's serious medical issue makes me hope there's not a tearjerker ending.
Meanwhile, Cemal has such an obviously menacing appearance, maybe the writers are setting us up for a different surprise villain.
Thanks again to all the recappers!
