MARIANA

#51/52

Somebody asked about the significance of Mari cutting her hair. A character cutting their hair usually symbolizes a major change in their identity. I know that sometimes people in real life change their appearance/ image when they go through some serious life altering event.

What I remember:

A tie for “best scene”of the episodes:

Iván getting slashed across his chest by Oropo in the process of saving Yadira from Iván sexually assaulting her. AND
Lola getting a new adornment usually on her head in the form of a REAL LIVE MONKEY that has turned Lola into its own personal vehicle.

They still haven’t gone for the medical tests because it isn’t mañana yet. (This day is getting longer and longer.)

Iván lets it slip to Iggy that he isn’t a Lugo-Navarro but without more details.

Cumache is alive spying on everybody from the treetops like a monkey himself. He sees Mari wandering around in her black hooded cape (she gets it from her room and freaks Chachi out again) and thinks it is the ghost of Elisa. He also finds Atilio’s watch in a river and starts to wonder if Atilio got out via the river, too.

Isidro gives Iggy a document from Iggy’s grandmother that certifies that Iggy is a Lugo-Navarro. Iggy shows it to Marcia as proof of who he is. She still says she will not hand over his land unless he meets a condition. Iggy isn’t interested even in hearing it. He is not playing.

Carol shows up to get Iván to deal with the strange man with the counterfeit money at the casino. Carol hates Marcia and Marcia hates her.

MARIANA

I have to agree with your “tie for best scene” Jarifa. The monkey was too cute. Had to laugh at Ivan going down to the ground on his knees in his white suit.

I don’t think Carol will be a match for Marcia.

So how many times will Iggy be on the verge of seeing Mari before he actually sees her.

Thank you for putting up our weekly Daytime 'novelas page, Rgv Chick!

CITAS #14 - #15 (Sept 25 & 28)

Univision Fútbol pre-empted the Thursday episode. Maura has decided that Salazar is having eyes for Amalia's doctor. She is jealous. Apparently her insecurity is driving Salazar crazy. He told Angel that he might leave Maura after Marina's wedding. No puede más.

Maura is also very upset that Alondra and Angel are a couple. (this woman needs to get over herself and get a life.)

Ingrid proposed marriage to Marcelo. He never really gave her an answer.

Maura sees a therapist/psychologist. Under hypnosis, we learn Maura was teased as a child for being overweight.

Lucía has a blind date with Carolo. He's a nice, normal guy. But Lucía gets a call from Marcelo and they talk "work." Carolo leaves while she is still on the phone. My spidey-sense tells me this is their only date.

Amalia (Lorena's cousin) is taken off the ventilator/life support machines and she is still alive. Days later, she opens her eyes but is unresponsive. Aitor goes to see her but when he tries to hold her hand, she keeps pulling it away. This hurts his feelings.

VOCABULARY
"get a life" --- LOL - same as in English
"avecinar" --- to approach; to bring closer together

REINA DE CORAZONES

Patio, I am ecstatic. Our Comcast cable package now includes some sort of streaming thing called Peacock. It's free (for now). The only negative is there are no closed captions. Oh well. The good news is that I found Reina de Corazones on it! This Reinamaniac is in heaven. I've given up on CAFE and MARIANA and am spending all my spare time watching this and reading the old CARAY recaps & comments.

This was a crazy fun telenovela, even when it went off the rails. ;-)

Lots of Eugenio Siller shirtless scenes right now. And I love the music.

MARIANA

Jarifa, thanks for the info on the significance of Mariana's hair being cut. Also for the episode numbers, it gives me an idea where we are in this tale. Wikipedia's Mariana article says a total of 135 episodes. The article also has lots of spoilers so I stopped reading though I don't always mind spoilers.

I found it very, very annoying that Halcón was only 20 feet from Mariana yet never took a look inside the cave. I certainly would have, even if only out of curiosity about the cave itself. A couple of times it looked like he would go, but then he pulled back and went off. I suppose it's just too soon for him to find Mariana, we have too many episodes yet to go.

Oropo had me worried for a minute, I was afraid Yadira would be all "My hero!" and then would throw herself at him. But no, it looks like she and Camilo are headed for a meeting of minds and bodies.
Lucky Camilo but poor Chachi! It seems like I'm always saying "poor Chachi", the crazy girl just can't get a break. OTOH, Camilo was never really interested in her anyway. Maybe she and the shrink will hit it off.

Iván really is a louse. Too bad; Halcón/Ignacio does have a Lugo-Navarro relative, but he's a villain.

Nice to see Carol again. The more eye candy, the better.

Cumache should add some jungle fruit and veggies to his diet.

Andy

MARIANA

Andy, ITA that Iggy was too stupid for words when he didn’t go in the cave. Very funny about El Cumache needing some veggies in his diet.

I like to know how many episodes are in a novela from the get go. It could be the deciding factor in whether I want to start a novela or not. Also, I never met a spoiler that I didn’t like. : ) Doesn’t matter to me. I always read those articles in Wiki or wherever about the entire novela/series when they are available.

MARIANA

I agree that my first feeling is that Carol wouldn’t be any kind of match for Marica but I would sure love it if she were.

MARIANA

Yesterday got away from me but I'm still enjoying the kvetching about the silliness of this telenovela. A wonderful distraction from the more lethal silliness of the news. JARIFA and ANDY, you always make me laugh.

AMORES VERDADEROS

learned a new word there...Arriaga was talking about a tense atmosphere in the house and he used the word "tirante". I'm sure I'll find a reason to use that word some day!

ALBORADA

For me just continues to be pure pleasure. I even watch the credits, rather than fast-forwarding. So glad that they're showing it again.

CITAS

I've given up on it, but always read your recaps DORIS, and thanks for "avecinar". Makes sense when you unpack the word.

ALBORADA

One more thing...vocabulary wise. Diego's henchie used this word "gachupines". A new one for me. It refers, in a derogatory way, to Spaniards living in Mexico.

OT

Judy - for sure there are a lot of new vocabulary terms in CITAS. "Avecinar" is an easy one, if I remember it :-) because "vecino/a" is the noun form.

MARIANA #53/54

What a hilarious episode! The Carol all over Iggy scenes were the best.

Finally, it is mañana and the motley crew gets on the ship of fools and starts on their journey to the casino/medical test land of Costa Esmeralda. Along the way, weeds get stuck in the outboard motor and they stop so Iggy can clean them out and Carol can strip down to her hot pink underwear and flirt with him swimming around in the water as an upset Marcia watches. Later at a casino hotel room, Carol continues her seduction when she finds Iggy in his robe and his “ tightie whities” only to be stopped by a jealous Marcia who announces he is the father of her child. Iggy says not so fast since hasn’t been a paternity test yet.

El Cumache is darted by El Oropo with a drug and taken back to the cave where he sees Lola and Mariana who he first takes for Elisa. He notices she is out of it and doesn’t recognize him. She is terrorized by the name Atilio. He finally escapes from the cave and is back on the move spying. A disheveled mystery man is stumbling through the jungle and It turns out to be Atilio who runs into El Cumache. He is back for his revenge. El Cumache tells him about Mariana being alive, out of it and being told she is Elisa by Lola. Atilio thinks that is even better for being able to take her far away with him. Atilio sends El Cumache to get a small chest that has everything in it to make Mariana his. Atilio is in a lot of pain and can barely move. Yay! El Cumache goes to Camilo’s office and steals medicine. Yadira finds a mess in the office and El Cumache’s earring. El Cumache notices it is missing.

Isidro sees love in Yadira’s future but it isn’t free/available/not compromised. Camilo can’t stop thinking of her. The new engineer is taken with her, too.

Iván needed more hair gel on the right side of his head. There were loose hairs. Very distracting.

Iggy and Iván agree that he is not a Lugo-Navarro by blood. Iván says that Iggy took the place of the third of the Lugo-Navarro children and that person views him with resentment and will claim what is his one of these days. Gee, who could that be?

Isidro’s view of future is being blocked and not by anything good. Lucrecia brings Isidro the El Cumache earring. He warns her they better have their eyes wide open. He shows her a piece of fabric he found in the jungle. She recognizes it as belonging to Atilio.

It is the next morning. Time for the paternity test and the results. Iggy is ready to leave. Costa Esmeralda; not his kind of place.

A barely walking Atilio wants El Cumache to take him to Mariana.

ALBORADA

Since I've seen it, others have seen it and Melinama's recaps are still here, all I'm going to talk about is vocabulary.

Araos--type of northern sea bird (pictured on the medallion that was given by Hippolyta's biological father to her mother

Alebrestado(a)--upset, distressed, stirred up, excited

Dicho: Marcos to Martin (who's giving don Luis a hard time about Hipolita) "tampoco hay que escupir en el plato donde comes" (fig. don't bite the hand that feeds you. lit. don't spit in the platter from which you're eating)

Because it's all about the Spanish!

ALBORADA

JudyB, the vocab is never ending, isn’t it? Glad you are enjoying Alborada all over again.

MARIANA

Best scene today: Carol shucks her clothes down to some very nice underwear, close enough to a bikini for me, while Marcia fumes.

Alternate best scene today: cute little monkey eating and going back and forth from Ma. Lola to Mariana. W.C. Fields had it right, never work with kids or animals, they will steal the show. Although with telenovelas it seems truer of animals, an awful lot of TN kids are just horribly annoying. But the monkey is really cute.

I really don't understand Cumache. Is he in love with Atilio, or is he just living in the reflected "glory" of the most powerful man in the region? He's certainly not doing it for the money or benefits. He wasn't even living in a proper house such as the one Halcón and Mediomundo had for a while.

Why is Halcón/Ignacio so glum these days? Is he supposed to be mourning the lost Mariana?

MARIANA #55/56 Wednesday

Andy, Sí, Iggy is missing the love of his life and is feeling guilty

As

Isidro sees bad times coming.
Chachi plays a childish brat by stomping her feet declaring she doesn’t want to see the psychiatrist again.
Iggy finds out YES! He is the father of Marcia’s baby.
Iggy tells Marcia that supporting his child doesn’t mean marrying her.
Marcia threatens to abort the fetus,
Iggy refuses to be blackmailed and asks his friend Lucrecia, who is like a mother to him, to leave town with him.
Lucrecia drops the bomb on him in the final scene that YES! She is his mother.
Isidro, Lola and Iggy spend so much time discussing going to see if the woman in the cave is Mariana that Atilio Is able to steal his “Elisa” . She is clearly terrified as he carries her away.
we see a wedding photo of an overjoyed Atilio and a very sad Elisa.
Atilio sends El Cumache to see Marcia to get money so they can leave town. Marcia is not to know he is alive.
El Cumache blackmails Marcia about her sexual activities with Atilio and is able to get a bag of jewelry and cash but also promises her a one time “service call” for whatever she might want done in the future.
Oropo takes pity on Yadira and gives her a bottle of some liquid to take the scar from her face.
Cumache might have killed Lola.

When the three stooges were taking there time going to the cave to see “Elisa” maybe Mariana and looking for a lost monkey or just not knowing if they should bother going to the cave, etc., etc., etc.., it was enough to do the FFWD. Way too ridiculous. I do not know how much more I can take!

MARIANA

I haven't seen today's episode, but I just had to comment on the episode and comments for yesterday.

Andy, "Best scene today: Carol shucks her clothes down to some very nice underwear" LOL I thought of you when I saw that and just knew that eye candy would be all over you LOL

Watching Camilo anticipating a life of hell is so depressing. But then Orojo comes out and my depression is gone :-) Now I'm the one that has eye candy all over LOL And talking about Orojo, where has he been all this time (since he has just recently been showing up). There have been other occasions when Maria Lola or some other poor Cumachi-victim needed some saving; did he just lurk in the shadows and watch?

Jarifa, I enjoy watching Marcia burn with jealousy more that I do watching Carol all over Iggy. But now, I am more fearful for Carol...Marcia scorned...or thinking that she is scorned can be deadly.

MARIANA

Oh my JARIFA, I sense your nerves are fraying with this one. Still enjoying your rundowns on the baffling, frustrating action...or non-action in this story. Will have to take a peek if only to get a gander at this Orojo fella.

MARIANA

Rgv Chickie, Carol is indeed very tasty, as are a lot of women in this TN, but Patricia Navidad has been my telenovela crush since Mi adorable maldición. My other telenovia is Ana Brenda Contreras. I need two because it's all about the Spanish and... um, I forget where I was going with this.

In any case I'm glad Origami gave Yadira a cure for her scars. I hope Doc Camilo manages to get a drop or two for analysis.

Jarifa, you nailed it, the "three stooges" was spot on. And I just "love" how this TN keeps teasing us about these things, as before when Ignacio didn't bother to enter the cave.

So the paternity test confirms that Ignacio is the baby daddy. Ok, no doubt now, none whatsoever, nope.

The new engineer is not the nice guy that Gerardo was.

So Lucrecia finally told Ignacio she is his real mother. But wait... if you are Mom, then Pop...

And another teasing cliff hanger; did Cumache just kill the monkey's mother? Oh, the suspense!

Andy
