Welcome to PG 2 of Daytime TNs! This page will now be posted twice a week—on Mondays and Thursdays before 12PM. It is being provided to give those who are watching daytime TNs on any channel a place to discuss any of the TNs aired prior to 6PM.  If you would like to contribute a recap or just some highlights for a daytime TN, I’m sure there are those who watch the same TNs that would appreciate it. TNS currently being discussed are:

9 -11 AM – Mariana de la Noche

12-2 PM - Alborada

4 -4PM -    Cita a Ciegas

This page can also be used as a forum to keep in touch, discuss strolls down the Caray! Caray! memory lane, or anything else that is of interest to the patio.

Please remember that ANY daytime novela can be discussed and everyone is welcome to join in the conversation. Friendly reminder to PLEASE put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for. (You can shorten the title to one word, i.e., “Mariana”)

MARIANA THURSDAY

Okay let me get his straight . . .

the comandante declares Atilio must be dead after the explosions at the mine but they have no body . . .

Iggy has yet another tropical shirt we haven’t seen before

Lola has been taking care of a comatose Mari and decorating her with flowers in her cave.

the legendary mystery man (EL ROBO EL ROPO ????? ) appears during one of Lola’s absences and through prayers, the laying of hands, spells and a potion, he tries to bring her back to consciousness to no avail. Earlier, Yadira tells Isidro that this legendary figure is alive.

it looks like Camilo might be falling for Yadira. Might she be the unexpected love Isidro told him about?

Marcia suggests that Iggy marry her and then he can take care of his fellow miners and also his baby since she is now expecting his baby.

Iggy plans to give the miners some of his Lugo-Navarro land (Marcia has agreed to give him the deeds to the land) but seems morally compromised about a baby being involved since he himself grew up without his parents. He knows he will support his child but should he do more????

Lucrecia wants to tell Iggy the truth about his parentage but doesn’t when she hears how Iggy would have a hard time accepting parents who would abandon their child.

Chachi tries to make a power play in reference to her inheritance from her father. Marcia puts her in “her place” but Chachi hasn’t given up.

Lola makes the still unconscious Mari take some more of the potion and suddenly Mariana awakens but says nothing.

Mari later gets up and goes wandering through the jungle at night.

at the same time, Iggy is expressing his sorrow over the loss of Mari at the magical glade.

"MARIANA":

RGV Chick: Love to see the old Telenovela from 2003 back on Univision!

Jarifa: Got a thrill up my leg seeing Angelica Rivera & Andrea Fonseca as Antagonists in this one :)

MARIANA

Goodness, JARIFA, it does seem like I'm missing a lot. But so it goes. I would say the plot of this is getting murkier and murkier...almost like the totally black screen that appears when I try to record. As I told Doris, on the previous line, I've tried re-booting the TV a couple of times to see if I could bring Unimás back up to snuff, but not sure if it will hold. Spectrum does not seem to give that station the same "juice" as it does some others. Oh well. New grandbaby about to arrive, so I'll be otherwise employed probably anyway.

MARIANA

Jarifa, thanks again, you keep clarifying things for me and I think you covered everything of any importance.

According to my Closed Captioning, loincloth guy is called "Oropo" in the local tales.

It does look like it might be Yadira and Camilo soon. I think yesterday's visuals gave us a clue that this would be. Lucky Camilo, poor Chachi.

More later.

Andy

OT/MARIANA

JudyB, congrats on having a new grand baby on the way! It sounds like great fun. Your Spectrum sound like my Comcast but with me it is the ONDemand that loses the juice.

“Mariana” is just ambling along. Nothing much to say about it except it gets sillier each day now with the half naked guy “of legend” running around the jungle. I hope you are enjoying “Alborada.” The first two episodes were well done but the época is not one of my faves. I watched the first few episodes of “Imperio de mentiras” and it is okay so far.

I did laugh the other day when I started watching a movie on my Univision OnDemand called “La hija de Moctezuma” a Mexican comedy/fantasy starring La India María (This was her last movie) as the great great ???? granddaughter of Moctezuma. What is so odd about it is that it was made in 2014 but it plays like it was made in the 1950’s in the staging, photography, slap stick, sight gags, wordplay, corny jokes, plot, music, graphics etc. Rafael Inclân (Eugenio in MMTF) plays Moctezuma. The Aztecs do speak Nahuatl with Spanish subtitles. LOL I plan to finish it this weekend.

MARIANA

Andy, thanks for the info on Oropo. I don’t get any captioning and I couldn’t tell what it was.

OT

JARIFA, Ah, la india Maria, she was a charming gal. They managed to incorporate her in a number of telenovelas and she was always quite enchanting. Nahuatl sounds like a very difficult language to speak, from the few words I've seen. But certainly of interest! You've certainly got eclectic tastes.

MARIANA

Thanks for the cliff notes, Jarifa :-) I actually got to see this today. Despite all the drama, the long-winded proclamations of amor, desolation and desperation can make this thing boring. Whoever invented Sr. FFW should receive a BIG prize.

Oropo can chant his spells and give me whatever potion he wants! The man is HAWT!!!

May the forest and TN gods protect Yadira once Chachi finds out that she and Camilo may be getting close.

Isidro did his "bones" thing again and was confused by what he saw: Elisa->Mariana->Elisa->Mariana. He said something to the effect that they become one in the same. My guess is that Mariana will have amnesia and since LocaLola keeps calling her Elisa, Mariana will think her name is really Elisa. Typical of the older TNs (sigh)

ALBORADA

I've been semi-watching this. And I'm enjoying reading Melinama's recap of the first week.

First thing that I noticed when I saw Colunga was how he was dressed. Isn't this the era where men wore tights? Would have loved to see Colunga in tights! LOL

Wish I got Unimas so I could watch my first and fav tn. Maybe I will stop by here to discuss it with you lucky folks who are watching it. Besides Colunga, I love young Marcelo Cordoba and Alessabdro Tomasi.

OT

Was Marcelo Córdoba ever considered galán material? The first thing I saw him in he was a villain.

He’s had a steady stream of secondary roles—sometimes a villain, sometimes a good But never the top galan as far as I know.

CAFE CON AROMA DE MUJER

I've copied & pasted to bring this forward...

" Anonymous said...
Re CAFÉ CON AROMA DE MUJER:
At a time when every telenovela had basically the same plot: cenicienta, jail, real parent was wealthy but unknown, jail, pregnancy, etc., etc. Café broke new ground.
First, it was a story that had a real business at its center. Second, the female lead was, yes, a "poor" woman, but she lived with her real mother, studied, and modern woman ought her way to the top of her profession. Third, the hero was impotent - except with that one woman. Fourth, there were no blondes with big breasts. Fifth, there were not an endless series of hot bedroom scenes.
The two leads were exceptional.
Looking back on it from 2020, Sebastian appears to be almost a stalker. But, back then, believe me, the novela was a breakthrough.

Anonymous --- thank you for this explanation. Being a ground-breaking telenovela, it now makes sense to me. The only other telenovela I've watched that was produced in the mid 1990s was a historical period telenovela, Corazon Salvaje. Not having seen other telenovelas broadcast during that same time, now I "get it."

MARIANA

Mari is catatonic and wandering around, when not being cared for by Lola, even into Chachi’s bedroom just to stare at her. Chachi’s hysterical response earns her a trip to a psychiatrist when Marcia goes to get a prenatal paternity test to convince Iggy he is the father.

Iván Is the man who put one over on Yadira and ruined her life. He is now a fast friend of Marcia and putting one over on her with reference to his real identity. He is spending time at the hacienda collecting info.He finds a photo in Atilio’s room of who he thinks is Elisa. Isabel shows him a photo of Mari. They look the same! At the casino, Carol has a “situation” to deal with and is pissed she doesn’t know where he is.

The return of the land is off when Marcia finds out her workers are planning on quitting and working their own land Iggy is gong to give them. She tells Iggy lotsa luck going to the courts to fight her for the land because he cannot even prove who he is. Her original offer stands if he marries her.

Iggy blames himself for Mari’s supposed death. He got his revenge but lost his life. Lucrecia still hasn’t told him the truth but insists she loves him As she were his mother and offers her support.

A new mine engineer shows up. Marcia looks like she could be interested.

The comandante is surprised El Cumache has also gone missing but not sure he is dead. He isn’t.

Camilo is now finding out that his quickie with Chachi wasn’t worth it. She goes nuts when she finds out that Yadira is his assistant. He is forced to tell Isabel they had sex. Being the gentleman he is, he offers to marry Chachi

I still feel like we are in the 19th Century!!!

MARIANA

Thanks JARIFA. From now on I'm going to be watching this silly show through your eyes. Too much going on in my life to actually sit down and view it at the moment. Sounds like people are still hiding a lot of important secrets. Camilo is kind of a noodle isn't he? At least he'll be a super nice husband to our poor abused Yadira as I assume that's where this is going. After all, our Isidro can't be wrong!

DORIS

Thanks for transferring that explanation about the impact of Café Con Aroma de Mujer. Very informative and helpful.

ALBORADA

I'll definitely watch part of this at lunch time. And maybe even look back at Melinama's recaps as they were always fun. Love the gal playing Fernando's "tia" and of course she's the one who always says "CarayCaray". Do worry about that throat of hers...sounds like she's gargling gravel every time she speaks.

MARIANA

JudyB, there are “noodles” in abundance! I sure hope Isidro isn’t wrong. Maybe Chachi will run away or be hospitalized or something Every time I think about dropping this one, I think “what the heck!” since I am only watching “Imperio de mentiras” and, after 4 capítulos, the jury is still out on that one for me at least.

CAFE CON AROMA DE MUJER

doris, quoting Anonymous:
"Fourth, there were no blondes with big breasts."

This was supposed to be a good thing???

I hope they made up for it with brunettes and redheads.

Andy

MARIANA

I haven't finished watching this but I had to stop watching to let the DVR record MCET. Will that TN ever end??

Jarifa, you help me to watch this at 2X speed for long stretches   :-)

Rgv Chickie, I only recently realized that the actor who plays Iván, Roberto Blandón, played Severo in Mi adorable maldición. So this is what he actually looks like   :-)

Ma. Lola has herself a nice cozy little cave. Did her earlier cutting of Elisa/Mariana's hair have some significance?

Poor, crazy, not very good-hearted, Chachi.

Marcia might be a little crazy herself. She was immediately taken with Halcón the minute she first saw him. She's moving mountains to get the guy. Yet she wants to discard him the minute he's no longer a fun challenge?

I would like the baby to be Ing. Gerardo's. We'll see.

Andy

MARIANA

OMG! Andy, Roberto Blandón was Severo?! I would have never guessed, he was HORRible in that, physically and character-wise!

MARIANA

Mejía and company are a trip! (OK, so I'm a 70's kind of guy :)

La Isla was some island that wasn't even a part of Mexico but could easily be reached by putt-putt boat in, say, 20 minutes or so. Now Costa Esmeralda is a tiny island country in the Caribbean where laws are only loosely enforced and no visa is required for entry. And now los Montenegro are going there for a paternity test for Marcia and a shrink for Chachi.

OK, works for me.

I thought Marcia was not much interested in men. Well, with Gerardo and Atilio gone, and Halcón playing hard to get, I suppose she needs a new exercise partner.

"Being the gentleman he is, he[Camilo] offers to marry Chachi"
No, no, Doc! Make it conditional on her being preggo, at the very least. I feel for poor Chachi, and she's very pretty when she's not being crazy, but I suspect that such a marriage would be a form of hell. And Isidro told you the new love of your life is right around the corner. And if it's Yadira, well, Yadira or Chachi, no contest.

And thanks to el Comandante I have a vocabulary offering:

choza = hut (first or only definition in several dictionaries); hovel, shanty, modest cabin.

Andy

MARIANA

ANDY, I love the word "choza". It sounds like what it is. And there always seems to be a choza in these stories at some point...usually because the kidnappers stow their hapless victims in one for periods of time. But clearly in this story, both Isidro and Lola have their only cozy little chozas off in the jungle.

MARIANA

Andy, the fact that the island is outside of the law should add to the drama and the action. I’d love to see it controlled by pirates at this point. Why not? They are throwing in everything else imaginable.

I am glad that you feel for Chachi because I cannot stand her. Camilo needs a psychiatric consultation as much as she does offering to marry her.

JudyB, have you run into any chozas yet in “Alborada” ? I bet Luis would know his way around one. ; )

OT

Hah JARIFA...our heroic Luis knows his way around anything. There is a "choza" in the story, and a tragic event associated with it, but that's far in the future for now. I am enjoying re-seeing this story and all the fine actors associated with it. Another time, not just in history, but in the making of telenovelas and the storylines presented.

Alborada

Well, I watched a double epi last night. It's sufficiently full of commercials that I can zip through them on the recorded episode.

Mostly I recorded to get my Colunga fix. He doesn't disappoint. I wish I'd noticed it was being re-run soon enough to watch the first episode. Although, I suspect it's on the internet somewhere.

Surprising how much we forget. I had forgotten how much time had elapsed since the first episode, and that the child fathered by Luis was a toddler.

And such a joy to see Tía Isabel, whose catch phrase inspired the name of our beloved blog. I also noticed Colunga's catch phrase: Sí, Sí, repeating the word in a soft tone to indicate he's understood the other character's words.

ABORADA

NOVELERA, glad you are enjoying this along with me. I don't think I will every tire of watching Colunga play Luis. And all the actors play their roles exremely well. Yes...CarayCaray, Si, si, and Asi es y asi será! (his alleged mother). Fascinating from beginning to end.
