Recap Thurs 10 Sept
So Márcio is the name of Maria da Paz’s young financial advisor who was at the meeting with Kim. Kim is supposed to be an internet starmaker for Josiane, and Márcio, as well as Maria’s older lawyer Antero, are skeptical, especially because of her high fees. Josiane begs and Maria gives in and signs the contract. Kim is also sexually harrassing Márcio, who had been trysting with fiancée Sílvia in Maria’s office earlier. Sílvia is Gilda’s sister, who is married to Amadeu, Maria’s almost husband who was shot at their wedding back in Rio Vermelho. They have a son, Carlito. Got it?
In other news, Josiane and Régis, who tried to pick up Maria twenty years ago, are a thing now, Eusébio and Dorotéia’s son Rarisson is now their daughter Britney, and Fabiana, who grew up in a convent, sees Vivi Guedes on a talk show and realizes she is her long lost sister because they both bear the same amulet bracelet.
In case anyone is wondering, all words in Portuguese are supposed to be stressed on the next to last (penúltimo) syllable, and exceptions are written with accent marks. Hence, Márcio but not Maria, Sílvia but not Garcia, Virgínia, Régis … well, that´s French and he´s so cute he´s ALWAYS an exception. Actually that´s a different rule about final s/z, like Beatriz (Vivi’s adoptive mother, by the way).
Ok, let’s get started on tonight´s show!
Mother Superior asks Fabiana, What´s wrong? I saw my sister on the TV! Sorry about the vows, but I got to go to São Paulo!
Otávio’s apartment in SP, the maid comes in with his suit. How old are you? 21. You know, you’re really pretty! Ewwww
Pastry chef Abel is taken with Britney when she visits brother Zé Helio (the one with the glasses) at the cake factory. Britney has come to ask Maria for a job. She just finished her accounting studies and wants a real job. Hey Márcio, don’t we need someone in the accounting department? Márcio thinks she should hire someone with experience but Maria says, Britney, you’re hired! Márcio says, Hmmn Britney is not a common name.
Amadeu tells Gilda he supports her new career as a salesperson. He’s looking at the internet and Habitex Construction needs people. I just made you an appointment with them, click! Let’s go shopping for new clothes. Sister Silvia can’t go because Márcio is coming over and you can meet him. Ding dong! Márcio talks about stuff happening at the cake factory, his boss Maria just hired a “ahem, girl” without experience.
Amadeu remembers that he knew a Maria who made really good cakes. Gilda says, please don’t talk about her. Amadeu and Gilda´s son Carlito says he will leave Sílvia and Márcio alone so they can have some privacy. By the way, what’s the name of the place where you work, Márcio? Pasteles de Paz, it’s named after the owner Maria da Paz. Amadeu goes, Whoa!
Maria is shocked by Kim´s bill. I could buy another apartment with this. No, I will only give you half. Josiane says, But Mommy!!!!
Amadeu and Gilda are shopping at the mall and Amadeu says, I gotta get some coffee. He goes out into the mall and see dressy Maria going down the escalator and then sitting at a café. Gilda calls him back inside. Are you sure we can buy this, ok, we´ll take it.
But Lyris wants the same dress. The shopkeeper says it´s the only one. Amadeu tries to intervene. Lyris decides she wants something younger. They all get along swimmingly, maybe not so much with Lyris´ teen daughter, and Gilda talks about her upcoming interview. Guess what, Lyris says, my husband is the broker for Habitex!
Alo still at the mall, Maria is putting her credit card down for clothes for Josiane that Kim is selecting and complaining about the price. Kim is defending her reputation as an influencer maker.
Lyris calls Agno and makes the appointment for Gilda. I also want to stop by and bring you a little kiss, Lyris purrs. Agno says, please I am really busy and really tired. Lyris pretends that he has returned her amor. Amadeu gives Lyris his lawyer card. But I will not need a lawyer, me and my husband are SOOO happy.
(cont)
At the convent, Mother Superior offers Fabiana money from her inheritance so she can go to SP. And you will need clothes, too. You´d make a great nun. Don´t rush things with these rich people. Thank you, Mother. Our doors are always open. I hope you will not be disappointed. What, Never! I´m sure my sister will love me.
Maria, Josiane and Kim get back to Maria´s apartment, and Rocky is there waiting for them. Jo says, What are you doing here. Kim says I need to talk to Jô in private. Maria and Rocky are chowing down on rolls and juice. Régis calls Jô, shall I pick you up at 8 or 9. 8h30. Kim says, who´s that. Oh, don´t worry he´s CHIC. He´s also Vivi´s friend from childhood, Kim tells her. Uh’huh. Anyhow let´s take pictures here, at the pool, on the balcony. It´s not Vivi Guedes big mansion but it will do.
Rock and Maria are talking about jobs, Britney and accounting when Jô and Kim come back. What, Rarisson is Britney now. Wow. Maria warns Kim that Márcio already has a girlfriend and Kim says she doesn´t care. Maria doesn´t like that. Jô leaves with Rocky to go train.
Ellen, Maria´s assistant and the chauffeur are talking about Josiane. Stop spoiling her, says Ellen. If I were you, I would look for a man. You only love your daughter, be happy, find a man! I can´t, I still love her father. I still dream of him. I feel as if he were still alive! Ellen says she understands, love doesn´t die. They laugh.
Amadeu is driving Gilda. He stops driving to talk about Pasteles de Paz. I don´t know if it´s Maria da Paz. Gilda starts hyperventilating. She´s dead! This hurts! Amadeu says sorry, I didn´t mean to hurt you. But I almost married her. You know this. Gilda says, there are lots of Marias and I don´t want to talk about this anymore. The first reminder of her and you go nuts. She´s dead. It´s difficult for me to be married to you and you still hope that she´s alive. Amadeu says I just can´t get her out of my head.
They get home and interrupt Márcio and Sílvia. Amadeu asks Sílvia why she didnt tell him the name of the owner of the factory. What, don´t get me in the middle of this. Amadeu and Gilda are arguing. I´m just curious, maybe it´s just a relative of hers, Amadeu tries to explain. Gilda says are you going to replace me. Carlito says stop being so dramatic. Amadeu says, See, even your son says you´re overdoing it.
Gilda retires to the bedroom and Amadeu comes to look for her and says I´m sorry, I didn´t mean to hurt you. It was a love that ended in tragedy. Gilda says you shouldn´t have married me then. But if it weren´t for you, Amadeu says, I wouldn´t be where I am today. So go to the factory with Márcio, Gilda says, and I hope she´s really fat! Just remember, she´s dead!
Camilo and Virgínia kiss in a car and take off.
Fabiana is kissing all the little girl nuns goodbye. What´s wrong Mother Superior. I have a bad feeling you will never come back. Fabiana kisses her and leaves.
Camilo and Vivi are at a fancy restaurant. Vivi is telling him how she was alone in the streets after her mother got shot on the beach. Camilo says, You know I´m a police investigator, why don´t you ask me to help you find your family. All I have is this bracelet. Let´s drop the subject. I have parents that I love and you that I love, too. Camilo says don´t you want to know about your family. Well, maybe just my sister. My great grandmother gave us the same amulets. I have a sister who is maybe thinking about me. I guess I would like to find her.
A country church. Nilda tells Rael that you have to make me a promise. Old lady Ramirez killed my husband, your uncle Vicente and your mother. Rael says he will never forget. Here in this church, promise me. This is all because Maria da Paz was going to marry Amadeu. The time has come for you to kill Maria da Paz. Rael nods.
FIM
Di: Just as I predicted. The plot to whack Maria Paz is on..... Body Count will increase fast from here on out.
On Mother Superior's bad feeling of Fabiana not coming back: Sadly she's right.
Bienvenidos, Peeps! Muchisimas Gracias!! Thank You! Obrigado!! Merci!! Danke!! JudyB!! You flat out ROCK, AMIGA!! And you rocked this Patio like I know you always do! I checked throughout the day and saw your and other observations and quips! I must say, the most heart-warming and memorable thing I read almost makes me cry just thinking about it: Your Lab that used to pray with you! OMG!!!! I don’t know much about doggies, just whether I think they’re cute (like Puff) or scary; I know they are very intelligent animals, but that blew. Me. Away! Aaaahhhh! Anywho, here we are! Add, correct, fuss, swoon, do yo’ thang! ¡Vamonos!
Ah, Caray! It’s chaos in the Instituto as darkness engulfs everyone and feelings are running high! After the appendectomy, Regina and Art help each other take off their surgical gowns; Regina reflects that the power outage makes them realize how dependent they have become on machines! But the A-TEAM, led by Dr. Regina Villasenor handled this, and more with clinical proficiency and creativity:
A man with chronic pneumonia, literally drowning in the pus in his lungs. David is the Attending, Marco assisting. Due to the lack of electricity, there is no suction apparatus so David devises a surgery that will allow a kind of syphoning off of the puss. Marco is commanded and provides the manual suction, getting some of the fetid fluid into his mouth! He nearly hurls but stays at his place to further assist as David instructs him.
Pamela meets an ambulance with a patient in distress! The EMTs have to make a fast decision whether to stay where there are no lights! Pamela assures them the patient will get the proper care; bring him in FAST! He is taken to a cubicle, she diagnosis heart attack! A bit later, Art calls her over to question the admission……great call! You done good, kid! Pam shares her ecstasy with Tania later in the cafeteria. Moments like that tell her she has indeed made the right career decision!
As our JudyB noted yesterday, it is almost literally an afterglow as Tania and Daniel continue beaming down at the happy Mother and baby, stabilized by the warmth Mommy’s breast. The emergency lights bathe the trio in a soft blue light as Tania draws parallels between the Mother’s rift with the baby’s Father and her own falling out with “a friend.” Tania encourages the Mother to talk to the Father, that the only way to disarm a misunderstanding is a heart to heart talk. Daniel knows Tania is talking to him and she makes a direct appeal once they are alone. Tania says she knows something is broken between them. But they are too good a team to let a misunderstanding come between them. Daniel tries to stop her; she tells him to please hear her out; to think about it: she wants to recoup their relationship.
We get a wordless montage, accompanied by guitar and vocals with a soothing, etheric vibe as Regina surveys each bay and the staff area of the ER: everyone is busy attending to patients with skill and efficiency! It is good! Regina tells her TEAM they are doing a great job and when the lights come on, they will make decisions about admissions. Art echoes her praise to Diego and Pam and congratulates them! Luis examines a patient and gets a notification that he has three missed calls from Susana and his battery is near death. He rushes off instructing the patient to call the nurse if he needs anything.
Regina takes a break and greets David in the darkened common room. Ah! What a day she says. Yep, this is the beating heart of our work, he replies. “Just when you think you can handle just about anything; something comes along to tell you no!” She asks how his pneumonia patient is. Good! She tells him good work and that she likes it when “..you don’t limit yourself and look for any way you can to pull the patients through. Me encanta.” This strikes a chord in David as a simple piano melody is cued. We see a subtle shift in his demeanor as he moves closer to Regina and looks into her eyes. “Well, in this, I think we are equals.” Regina says, “This is why I put up with you.” “Only for this, he asks?” and moves in closer still. They are close enough to feel the warmth from each other’s lips; they are drawn inexorably together, about to finally let those lips speak in a different way…..when the lights come on! They spring apart, allowing themselves a micro second of frustration and then start nervously chattering about getting back to work. They comically almost collide and avert direct eye contact in embarrassment. Good work, they’ll see each other later! David hustles out the door! Regina chuckles, inhales with her eyes closed briefly and then shakes her head. Almost kiss file saved in the heart. Hit the enter key, move on for now!
Another almost kiss happens as Cinthia enters the common room and finds Rafa flopped on the couch. He thinks he should be rewarded for his effort in their excellent teamwork with a kiss. Cinthia moves in and Rafa feels that same warm passion but is rewarded with a hunk of chocolate instead. At least Cinthia gives him a kiss on the cheek and the rest of the bar before she trots off! What’s been happening in the OPC? Not quite gentle vocal vibes as we survey the OPC where patients emit a collective moan of distress. Luz tries to encourage Ana to continue to see patients. Ana is shining a cell phone light directly into Luz’s eyes, refuses: how can she be expected to see patients in the dark?! Later, once the lights returns, Ana tells the groaning group she will only see those who arrived in the first two opening hours of clinic. The throng rushes the desk as she returns to her office.
Gonzalo has worked tirelessly to get the lights on, eventually paying for diesel out of his own pocket! Shameless liar Rene continues to feign frustration at Gonzalo’s refusal to accept his help, and is surprised that Gonzalo personally paid for the fuel and offers to reimburse him. Gonzalo declines. They have a kind of light exchange about another such emergency needing all hands on deck, including Rene’s. Oh, no, he thinks it would be ethically inappropriate for him to do any patient care; he is so out of practice! [It’s a wonder lightening didn’t strike Rene when he spoke those words!] Getting other nastiness out of the way; we have the hilarious pleasure of Marco meeting ealier with Rene to tell him how he was ordered to suck pus out a patient’s lungs! He is also worried that Regina knows he is also sucking up to Rene and whines how can he ever do surgery if his boss won’t let him? Snake boss tells him not to worry; Regina may be smarter than one thinks, but the rat will be safe; he’ll see to that.
Gonzalo has his suspicion that the AC and power failure are not a coincidence. He grills Marta about her executing his orders in his absence. Marta emotionally defends herself and swears on her many years of faithful service that she neither lost nor failed to send the requisitions for the work. On further questioning, Marta reveals that Rene had been in Gonzalo’s office while he was at the Congress! Gonzalo’s suspicions are confirmed. Marta remarks that if Dr. (Rene) Castillo did anything to deliberately hurt the Instituto, that would be grave indeed! Gonzalo’s wheels are turning and he pledges aloud that after this, he doesn’t trust anybody and he has to be more careful from here on out!
The dramatic day is not over as Susana arrives to the ER with Gabriel who is conscious but barely so and is burning with fever! David and Regina quickly attend him, accompanied by Daniel, Pediatric Resident. Regina gets a symptom history from Susana and learns of his constant drowsiness, fatigue and a curious change in behavior; becoming argumentative, irritable and rude! Regina rattles off the panel of bloodwork she wants done. Gabriel asks for his Papa, Luis; Regina assures him Luis is coming; they are going to take good care of him! Art takes over for Luis with a patient when he gets paged to the ER. Before leaving they discuss the excellent work Pamela did but Luis advises she needs to learn to get less emotionally involved with patients. Once in the ER Regina calms both Susana and Luis, sending her off to the waiting room so she may speak alone with him. After an off-camera conversation, Luis is in the room with Gabriel, examining him as Daniel observes. Regina notes the lymph nodes in his neck are swollen. She tells Gabriel his body is fighting to defend him and that he needs lots of fluids; his favorite is lemonade. Daniel rushes off to get some. Art provides loving paternal attention. Once outside the bay, David, Regina, Luis and Daniel confer. Luis thanks them for taking care of Gabriel. David tells him this is family; no thanks needed! The differential diagnosis (range of possible problems based on initial examination) is complex: it could be scarlet fever, sarampión, measles , an allergic reaction or an autoimmune disorder. He must be admitted and comprehensive studies done! In the waiting room Luis comforts and embraces Susana, terrified that Gabriel needs admitting. We hate to mention this creature, but Miryea notes these conversations with interest. [Hag!] Once everyone has gone, David approaches Regina and offers his support to her, knowing she is stressed. Yes, children are the most difficult for her to attend, and it being Luis’ son is a double blow. He knows. David thinks Gabriel’s cerebrospinal fluid also needs to be analyzed; a spinal tap is in order. Both are very worried and share a long gaze of deep concern.
At the end of a long and trying day, Regina has asked the whole crew to meet her in the common room: Rafa, Cinthia, Pam, Marco, David, Art, Daniel, Diego and Tania. Today was a difficult day but thanks to you all, we did a tremendous job. There are many great Doctors in this institution and we are among THE BEST! She pumps both fists! They all applaud together. David adds that it’s because they have the greatest Director in the Instituto! Regina thanks them for their support and all their effort, without which this could have been the worst day ever! She bids them all to leave and get some much deserved rest. Everyone leaves; Art lingers to ask if she’s going now. No, she’s going to look in on Gabriel and do some other things. Rest well. You, too, Art says, kisses her on the cheek and looks at her meaningfully for a moment before leaving. Regina looks exasperated. A bit later, David doesn’t see Regina in the common room as he returns to grab a white coat. She is sitting at a table and calls, “hola” to him. It was a tough day. Yes, she agrees. David sits on the table and says:
David: I like that you’re taking risks.
Regina: I think I learned to understand you better today.
David? Really?
Regina: Yes, When you’re under the crunch of time, something strange happens. It’s as if the experience imparts an instinct to you that tells you in the moment exactly what you have to do!
David. Yes, that’s it! (He moves closer to Regina).
Regina: Somehow you work with more precision than usual; it’s hard to explain. . .
David: (Kneeling in front of Regina, their beings regard each other closely.) I understand. When you are in that moment between life and death, it is very exciting! It’s a very thin line when you think time will work against you…
Regina: I don’t know how, but we did it.
David: Because you are animated, you are alive and it gives me great pleasure to see you rise above the normal scheme of things! I see something of me in you, or somehow I’m getting just a little bit into your head.
Regina. (They are again within the warmth of one another’s body heat. Their eyes kiss as she says softly). More than you know, David.
Art provides loving paternal attention.
Luis provides loving paternal attention.
Gracias, Lila. This is Televisa's #51.
If it is "ethically inappropriate" for Rene to treat patients we need to wonder why. Even before his own wife said that Gonzalo is a better doctor I have suspected that he screwed up big at some point in the past. If that is the case I think Mireya knows because she's been in this hospital for "a long time."
Marco got what he deserved, for the moment. He really needs to be humbled and thus far it seems that only David knows how to do that. I salute David for this tactic.
I wondered how long a cell phone's flashlight can be useful on a charge when I saw Luis use it in a patient's room.
Ana really doesn't care about people. There could be patients in her waiting room with more urgent need than a routine exam or script renewal but she doesn't give a damn. She was such a bitch to Luz as well.
Pamela needs to manage her expectations re Arturo.
I also miss Constanza's adorable dog. Anyone who loves her pet as much as she does can't be all bad.
Lila...wow wow wow. That was a spectacular writing .You definitely have a way with words, my dear . You caught all the emotion, drama, and angst off That episode. I can just imagine Anita's accolades to you. Please know how much I look forward to the recaps each day . The recap and comments are such positives in my day.
I am impressed by the excellent writing and acting in this show after watching several shows which didn't have storylines that made any sense.
Well, Rat , jr has been vomited on by one patient and now had to suck out pus from a patient's lung . Ew
I am glad that Gonzalo is beginning to suspect that Rene is up to no good. I
Regina has proven herself to be a wonderful leader.
Art seems to have simmered down a bit in his pursuit of Regina.
We got some tender moments of chemistry between Reg and David .
P.s. Hard to believe that 19 years has passed since 9\11. Our older daughter was working in NYC at the time. An awful day.
Lila, I am in awe of your writing. Thank you for such an enjoyable read! I especially liked:
We get a wordless montage, accompanied by guitar and vocals with a soothing, etheric vibe as Regina surveys each bay and the staff area of the ER: everyone is busy attending to patients with skill and efficiency!
This strikes a chord in David as a simple piano melody is cued. We see a subtle shift in his demeanor as he moves closer to Regina and looks into her eyes....They are close enough to feel the warmth from each other’s lips; they are drawn inexorably together, about to finally let those lips speak in a different way... WOW, just WOW!! Outstanding writing! I can feel the heat just by reading your description. Dang those lights!
Gonzalo is on Rene's heels. Woopppeee! Now if only there were some evidence that he could find.
Rene probably feels that it is "ethically inappropriate" for him to treat patients because he hasn't kept up with his required training or practice. While that is understandable, I still recall him saying that handling patients repulses him IDIOT!!
A night of unrequited longing, beautifully conveyed.
Lila, “The emergency lights bathe the trio in a soft blue light as Tania draws parallels between the Mother’s rift with the baby’s Father and her own falling out with “a friend” was simply lovely.
I am glad that Tania is trying to repair her friendship with Daniel. I'm not sure where they go from here, but I am eager to find out.
Even Rafa and Cin's near kiss drew me in. And I must admit, as things stand right now, I am cheering for Pamela and Arturo - once he comes to his senses that is.
"They are close enough to feel the warmth from each other’s lips; they are drawn inexorably together, about to finally let those lips speak in a different way…" was visually perfect. The attraction is warm and real but timing and an intrusive obstacle (Arturo) stand in Regina and David's way.
"The differential diagnosis (range of possible problems based on initial examination) is complex", yet you understood and conveyed.
"(They are again within the warmth of one another’s body heat. Their eyes kiss as she says softly). More than you know, David". Sighing dreamily.
I unkindly note that I rather gleefully enjoyed ”Marco is commanded and provides the manual suction, getting some of the fetid fluid into his mouth!”
Just marvelous Lila. Little need to say more.
And what a heartfelt thought Susanlynn. Anita would be so enthused - just as we all are.
Thank you so much Lila.
Diana
Di, thanks for explaining who is whom...it is getting quite complicated and hard to follow the characters. And thank you for the fabulous recap!
"Otávio’s apartment in SP, the maid comes in with his suit. How old are you? 21. You know, you’re really pretty! Ewwww" DITTO on the EWWW! Octavio is SO disgusting!
I don't blame Gilda at all for being upset with Amadeu. He's being an insensitive jerk and for him to expect Gilda to listen to him pine over Maria and to be understanding is very unreasonable.
Can't wait for the sisters to met. I was relieved to hear that Vivi also has the same desire to meet Fabiana.
I was hoping that the feud was over, but WRONG! Rael looked like such a nice young boy, he he grew up (and was taught) to continue the family feud. I don't understand why old lady Ramirez blames Maria for everything. The families had been feuding wa-a-a-y before Maria and Amadeu met.
Takin a break!
Gracias a TI, Urbanita! Episode 51, huh? Ok, those scissor-happy folk! Who knows what's in Rene's past. He claimed the ethical exemption because he's out of practice in patient care but he is, afterall, a big liar!!
Marco! Pus-sucking LOSER! Man! David brought him right down!
Beanie time for Ana being the only Provider for the busy OPC of a big, tertiary care, specialty hospital! Whatever. She'd still be a bitch with more help!
And yes, Urbanita! You and me both miss Puff! That's the only thing that made her scenes tolerable! WAH!
Urban., "Ana really doesn't care about people." No she doesn't! I hope someone complains and pushes her off that high horse.
Dear Susanlynn! Awwww, our beloved Anita! Thank you for saying she would like this. I may not type her name everyday, but am always thinking about her. My Lord!
Susanlynn, every time I think of Marco sucking pus I just crack up! That is frickin' hilarious! Let's not allow precautions about others' body fluids in this time of COVID, let's just enjoy this yucky situation!!!
Yes, we got some passion-interruptus but the last scene has got me excited. Can't wait for tonight!
9-11. Burned into the heart and memory!
Rgv and Diana I see y'all, just got a phone call. BRB!
Seems like everyone barely put in effort to find the missing girls. They could have at least found Fabiana. The girls weren’t small enough not to know their full family name.
Josiane is almost the mirror image of Regis, just younger. They’re both do nothings who leech off of the family wealth. Regis is pretty much a has been, while Josiane is aspiring to ‘get in.’ If the family cuts off the money, where would those two end up?
It’s worrisome that Josiane doesn’t love her mother. She told Regis she only tolerated her mother because she’s wealthy. Whenever Josiane acts nice or sympathetic to Maria, it’s all an act.
I sympathize with Gilda, but only up to the point where Amadeo is disrespecting her by wanting to go and meet some woman who cannot possibly be Maria da Paz (given the info that she’s dead). When he meets her and finds out that she’s alive, what is he going to do? Backtrack and divorce Gilda? Where I don’t sympathize with her though, is the reality that she married a man who was not in love with her, never was, settled with her out of gratitude, and who she’s always known was in love with Maria da Paz, dead or alive. That’s her fault.
Rgv Chick! You can feel the heat! GOOD! Girl, we need some passion up in this joint! They kept our lovers apart for over half this episode! If I can't hear no bodices ripping, at least let me see some lips pressing!
Rgv, Regina is going to need some loving support when Rene really lowers the hammer and I don't know what that slimy Miryea is up to, but she sure was listening hard to that discussion about poor Gabriel! UUUUF!
Thanks, Hon!
Oh, Diana! We totally deserved this episode: Daniel and Tania; Rafa and Cinthia; Art and Pamela but DAAAAAVID AND REGINA!!! Oh, I loves me some novela romance!!
And we had humor! I cannot get enough of Marco sucking pus!!!
Gracias, de verdad, for your compliments, but more for reading this recap and chatting about it on our Patio, Dianita!
Such a treat LILA! I loved the scene between David and Regina (Yes. Team David! Team David!) but I loved it even more when I read your wonderful, sensual, evocative description:
.” This strikes a chord in David as a simple piano melody is cued.
The scene was lovely LILA. But you made it even better in your re-telling. As someone once said of Julie's description of a Pasión scene: That was not recapping; that was WRITING.
Just a masterful job from beginning to end. It's a good telenovela; but you're making it even better by the way you bring it to life for us. Mil gracias my friend. This was a home run hit of a recap.
Dearest, Dearest JudyB! I told you and I meant it, that you and all the commenters in this Patio (thinking always of Anita) are a blessing to me during a difficult time. And we all are in difficult times. I am so happy if my descriptions are vivid and accurately portray the action on the screen. Gracias, Amiga, de verdad!
Let's be done with the pricklies and the doldrums! Let's get it on!!
Gracias, Span!
Hey, Guys! What do y'all think about poor Gabriel? We knew they were "too happy."! Apparently this mystery illness will be the challenge they face: I can't see the writers throwing pulsating Pauline back in the mix, too!
Thanks, SpanProf! All of those sound awful. Weird auto immune disorder sounds sadly likely. My gosh! I hope they don't let a kid die in this thing. It may turn out to be a PSA for whatever illness it is with the usual instructions to seek medical attention along with any self-care suggestions. Yikes!
It's probably meinigococcal meningitis! Teens are great risk for it and there is a vaccine for it that the CDC is encouraging. I will not post a link. Easy enough to look up for one's self but, ". . it is a rare, but potentially deadly, bacterial infection that can strike suddenly and lead to devastating complications..."
This would definitely lend itself to the kind of PSAs this novela has featured!
Lila, great job. Goodness, you're a romance novelist!
They are close enough to feel the warmth from each other’s lips; they are drawn inexorably together, about to finally let those lips speak in a different way…when the lights come on!
I have no medical knowledge, but I'm guessing Gabriel has something rare like a weird parasite. If it's something more common, Luis will feel even worse, if that's possible, feeling as a doctor he should've detected this. Hmmm, is this how Luis and Susanna grow closer, or pull apart? I like that although she's understandably distraught, she did not take it out on Luis by harping about him not returning her calls. I'm wondering if "pulsating Paulina" [thanks, Lila!] will turn out to be the only pediatrician in Mexico City who's expert in whatever Gabriel has.
Niecie , yes, I was wondering if Paulina is going to be brought in on Gabriel's case .
In this situation or when a couple loses a child, the parents can become closer or torn apart.
Niecie! Thank you so much! Ok, weird parasite! I guess we'll find out. I was gushing so much over David and Regina, I wanted us to put some focus on Gabriel. You're reading my mind on Paulina! ITA!!
Hi, Susanlynn! I hope I didn't miss you earlier! I hope they don't let poor Gabriel die, please!
Uh, oh! I don't want y'all to mark this day as the day I lost it. I'm going back through my comments, Susanlynn! I am so embarrassed, I thought I had missed you! I see I didn't. 😉
Rgv Chick and Anonymous,
I think Josiane is not that bad yet. She is really different from her mother, who honestly is not malicious but self-centered nonethless. The two of them are so clueless and have NO business sense. Maria just has boundless energy and positivity and her cakes must have struck a chord with the public at just the right time. Josiane is cut off because of the social divide created by her schooling, and knows she really has no chances because she's not that smart. She is being exploited by Kim who knows that she is desperate for attention, and that will add to her frustration. Add a jerk like Regis who is much older than her and maybe even a gigolo.... I don't blame Maria either, I feel bad for the both mother and daughter not being able to repair their relationship.
It must drive Rael mad that Maria lives such a successful life when he saw his mom killed, and Gma, who must have raised him, has been feeding him so much hate.
As for Gilda, Amadeu chased her and honestly, a girl has to take a chance on love in this world. I don't think you can blame her because Amadeu is extremely affectionate with her and usually actions speak louder than words. Unlike Maria, he had NO problem bouncing back from her death. Maria hasn't even dated in 20 years.
What's with Agno and Lyris? He's always "tired" even on the phone but his body is jacked so he's at the gym at lot. He's not attracted to other women. Hmmn.
Wowwww Lila that was amazing!!!
“We need some passion up in this joint” hahaha I agree! I loved the almost kiss! And the awkward moments after, it was cute lol. I don’t know if you guys caught it but when Regina says “I’ll see you later” right before David walks out the door he says “the lights are back so I’ll see you” HAHAHA
Marco sucking puss was definitely a highlight lol. The best part was when Marco almost puked and David told him not to be ridiculous haha
Doctors were doing SURGERY in the dark and Ana refused to see patients?! Ugh. Come on, it’s not like it was pitch dark, there were emergency lights on all over the place and she could have very well examined patients. UGH!!
Steve Boudreaux, I kind of want them to go back to Rio Vermelho just to see that gorgeous scenery again. I'm trying to figure out what kind of photography that was. It was amazing!
Thanks, UnOp! This was a fun episode! We all needed it in so many ways. Gabriel's illness was a dark spot but I'm hopeful the scare is set up to make an effective PSA for meningitis. Two hours to showtime!
Last night we saw Maria da Paz sign a contract with Kim to help her daughter Josiane become an internet star, Amadeu learns that the owner of Pasteles de Paz/Bolos da Paz might be Maria, Fabiana leaves the convent in search of sister Vivi, Vivi’s adoptive father Otávio sleazes after young employees, Josiane is hot and heavy with Régis, and Dorotéia’s son is now her daughter, Britney. And Nilda makes Rael swear to kill Maria!
Samba theme: We can’t stop dreaming… Your time will come!
Nilda says that Maria da Paz is rich and rich people are powerful, so be careful. Interesting altar that looks more like LED lights than your typical rose window. Nilda gives Rael the address of Pasteles de Paz. Here’s an old picture of her. Now it’s up to you. Rael says Maria is as good as dead, I promise Grandma
Rock and Jo are at the gym, Rock says he kept his part of the bargain introducing her to Vivi Guedes, now you better keep your promise and get Pasteles de Paz to sponsor the gym.
Lyris shows up at Habitex at night to find Agno at his desk. Why you work so much? Agno wants to know why he has to interview some girl (Gilda) tomorrow. No reason. Lyris wants to do it on the desk but he talks her into going out. They get some fast food and eat it in the car. I want romance, and now she’s on top of him. Basta, basta! he complains.
Régis is asking Gladys for money. Unfortunately I just bought some earrings at a divorce sale, ha ha, she explains. Gladys says Lyris married someone who is not of our class, but he does have money so go ask them.
Jo is pissed off the Régis is an hour late. They drive up to a high-rise building. Whoa, are you trying to take me to a motel? Why not, they have a restaurant here too. Or do you want to get a taxi? They go in and he pours wine down her gullet and they start doing it in the motel room. It’s not bad looking for a motel and she seems to like what he’s selling.
Lucky for Agno, the police shine their lights into the car and ask him to get out and show his licence. And are you ok ma’am? Because she is barely dressed and has ketchup dripping down her chest, the police officer insists that she accompany him to the Women’s Division for a rape kit. She convinces him they are married and he lets them go.
Régis says dang I forgot my wallet. And I ordered champagne for you. Ok, says Josiane, I’ll put it on my credit card. They leave and he drives her home. He says he’ll cook for her next time. She says, What, no restaurant? He says he is falling in love with her. (Smooth operator, gag!)
Lyris and Régis are back at Gladys apartment, recounting their “accomplishments” of the night. Finally Lyris admits that Agno doesn’t want her anymore. Régis thinks Agno has something on the side. He is always staying late at the office, Lyris confides. Gladys says he is just hard working. Do Not Risk Your Marriage. Light bulb moment, Lyris says Gilda can be my spy at Agno’s office.
Jo comes in late and Maria says I’m just waiting up because I worry like any mother would. Maria tries to get Jo to tell her who the boyfriend is, because I want to make sure it is something “special”. Jo says Goodnight Mom! (hate to tell you, Maria, but I don’t think this was her first time)
At home with Amadeu, Gilda and Carlito. I’ll drop Carlito at school and go right to my interview at Habitex. Carlito says he’ll wait downstairs, please guys, don’t fight, I’ll be late. When Carlito is gone, they start to talk about the cake lady.
Márcio is discussing missing money with Maria. Why didn’t you tell them that the 50,000 at the auction was a mistake? I was embarrassed, Maria says. And this expense, and this one? Oh, those are Josiane’s clothes, they were all ugly but her adviser insisted. Márcio says promise to stop these expenses, ok?
(cont)
Working out with Vivi, Kim and Jo. Rocky comes over and says Jo is from a vulgar family, her mother’s apartment is ugly and her name is JO-SI-AN-E. He’s mad about Josiane not keeping her word and he is going to embarrass her. In fact, her mother is a good person, has a great heart, but not Josiane. She promised to get her mom to sponsor the gym if I introduced her to Vivi.
Well, surprise, Vivi DEFENDS Jo. Jo should be proud of her mom starting out selling cakes in the street. I lived in the street when I was a child. You’re Rocky right. Goodbye! Walking away, Kim suggests, since they can’t shoot photos at Maria’s place, why don’t you split the rent on a photo studio with Vivi? Jo, grateful for them defending her, says Of course!!!
Kim and Jo go to a café. Just want to make sure, is your mom going to really pay for half the studio. Sure, she’s rich. (Kim is also a smooth operator!!)
Régis goes to Agno’s office. I have a problem. I overcharged my credit cards and they’re cancelled. Agno says I already gave you money at the beginning of the month. And let me explain how finance works. The monthly money I give you doesn’t make me an ATM. Look I have an interviewee waiting for me. Régis puts his finger in Agno’s face, This is not over!
Amadeu calls Márcio because he wants to meet his boss (that is, Maria da Paz). Márcio asks if he wants a job. No, I just have to know if she is my dead fiancée. Márcio says you should see a shrink. All right, don’t you dare tell her I told you, but she likes to visit all the pastry shops and see how they are doing. She’ll be at the Jardins location at the end of the day.
So, Agno says, you’re the great girl they said I should meet, he tells Gilda. But you’re a physical therapist. Yeah, I’m looking for more flexible hours. But you don’t have experience. Ok, you’ll work on commission without a fixed salary but we’ll give it a shot.
Gilda calls Lyris to thank her and Lyris invites her over to Gladys place. So Agno was nice to you? Yes. Gilda talks about how job ads always want someone with a “good appearance” and that means white. Awww. Well, we have an interesting opportunity for you. Lyris explains that Gilda should find out if Agno has another woman. Régis comes in and he is not happy, goes straight to his room.
Régis is opening his mom’s safe and takes out the fancy earrings she bought.
Amadeu is entering “Bolos da Paz” and looks in the display cases. The attendant says that one is cinnamon. Amadeu goes “Ah, cinnamon! I’ll have a piece of that. By the way, are you the owner?” The attendant says no, but she’ll be here soon. She’s a little late.
“I know this taste.” Memory of Maria bringing him a piece on the range. The employee wakes him up. He looks toward the door and THERE IS MARIA. THEY LOCK EYES.
Loved your final sentence DI. THERE IS MARIA. THEY LOCK EYES.
Definitely makes the reader (and viewer) want more. Thanks so much for taking this on single-handedly. I don't get a chance to watch this during the week, but try to catch up on weekends. Your efforts are very much appreciated and your knowledge of Portuguese (native speaker? gifted linguist?) is very much appreciated.
Di: It seems everybody wants Maria Paz dead & how far will they go to make sure it happens ?
Hi, Di! I've commented in a couple of your recaps and the story without response from you. I like to discuss these stories so I hope you don't miss me in the future. And pardon me if I missed YOUR response! I'm behind, still have to watch Thursday and Friday. I have loved the couple of Brazilian novelas I watched before and this one seems good. I'm also behind on your recaps but so far you're capturing the action and putting things in relevant cultural context!
Recapping isn't easy but if you acknowledge all your commenters, it encourages others to watch and comment and makes all the hard work that much more worthwhile.
Good luck!
Hola, Peeps! Hope and pray everybody is well, about to start a restful or whatever is amazing to you kind of weekend. I certainly extend my well wishes and prayers to folk on the wast coast; if we’re not there, we may have loved ones there! Same for folk on the gulf coast facing torrential rains and high winds of yet another tropical system! How are things at the Instituto? Let’s see.
David was terribly turned on by Regina’s description of how she was totally swept into "the zone” while working through a day made challenging enough by relentless barrage of life and death emergencies, all the while engulfed in darkness of a power outage with no functional backup generators! Regina was fascinated at how the space-time continuum shifted, energized and directed her and they all worked in efficient unison! Yes! Yes! David had knelt before Regina with a relieved and passionate recognition that she, too, was fueled by that same unnamable force that drew him to emergency medicine and now it was drawing them to each other! His eyes lock into hers to demonstrate his earnestness, “That is the most beautiful thing you have ever said in all the time we have known each other. Regina, you and I have so many things to resolve.” Regina says, “That’s not necessary.” David moves in even closer, “I think so, because I’m going to be very honest with you…,” David makes his move; an attempt to emphasize his point and silence her mild protests with a kiss……when Luis enters the break room!
[Peeps. Please step off the Patio with me for a moment and let’s all engage in a primal scream like the one Luis led Pamela in after the death of Sr. Hector. We have to let this frustration out! AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!! There. Now, take a deep, deep breath through your nose from the diaphragm, until your belly is pooched out; fill those lungs, think of the above beso-interruptus for a second and then exhale forcefully through your nose to expel that negative energy! Now, another deep, lung-expanding breath in through the nose and let it out through your mouth with a sigh. Tranquila. Tranquila.
There. Yes, Luis interrupts what was about to be a soul-bonding kiss and it fairly represents the rest of the episode. There are many, many scenes which focus on the Galvan family and little Gabriel’s mystery illness. Luis is comforted and encouraged in a moving scene with Gonzalo; David and Regina reassure Luis they are with him and will press into service every skill and all the time and attention they need to discover and treat whatever ails little Gabriel. They counsel patience and encourage Luis to trust them with the medical function and support his role as loving Father, Husband and Rock for the family. They also visit Gabe, who is more comfortable today, his fever having decreased. Luis’ friends and colleagues shore up him and Susana. Gonzalo is particularly effective using fútbol metaphor to represent the team effort to cure him by discovering who is the player that is not holding up his end of the game so they can move on to a game winning GOLAZO!! To this effort, Daniel works hard researching Gabriel’s illness, using data from the tests as they come in and the bit they have learned from the history and physical of young Gabe. Tania finds him hard at this work and offers to assist him. Reluctant at first, he accepts and he shares his progress thus far. In a later scene at home, Daniel happily shares that he is resolving things with Tania. Paco is very pleased. Daniel also offers Paco some money which he adamantly refuses. Paco and Elena share a knowing smile which says she will accept it into the family piggy bank without Paco’s knowledge. [They certainly need it. Peeps, what do you think?]
Remember yesterday that bitter hag, Miryea, had noted with interest the flurry and worry over Gabriel’s admission. Well, she actually reports it to Rene as a situation that needs close attention for abuse of Instituto resources as Luis’ son only had a little fever! [Peeps, go back up and do the aura-cleansing exercise if you have to because this is OUTRAGEOUS!!] Rene does mention Gabriel’s admission to a beat Gonzalo, just after Gonzalo had comforted and encouraged a crying Luis. Rene seemed to sense this was not the time to imply that Gabriel’s care was a misuse of Instituto resources so he just lets it go with a hope that Gabriel is diagnosed soon. Gonzalo is ready for any nonsense Rene might spew having discovered that the requisitions for the diesel fuel and air conditioning maintenance were missing from the written orders he left with Marta. Gonzalo shares this with Luz who quickly draws the conclusion that someone must be trying to hurt Dr. Olmedo and/or the Instituto! This is at the worst possible time in his life; he briefly mentions the problems with Aurora (the Horror) and Felipe! Back to the conversation with Rene, Gonzalo stands and informs Rene he is making an exhaustive audit of every department in the hospital; he doesn’t know what happened with the AC and power outage fiascos! Gonzalo pledges firmly and meaningfully to Rene NOTHING LIKE THIS WILL EVER HAPPEN AGAIN. Rene’s dopey expression registers Gonzalo’s resolve!
Let’s finish with slime ball Rene. Patricia Guerrero meets the Society Girls at The Club. Constanza is all fan-girly over meeting this wife of the rich and powerful construction magnate! She introduces herself as wife of THE DIRECTOR of the Instituto de Especialidades Médicas! Patricia suggests the two power couples have dinner and begin getting to know each other! Constanza think that’s a capitol idea and calls Rene who is busy doing his putting thing. Constanza thinks if Rene wants to REALLY be the Director of the Instituto, he needs the support of powerful people like the Guerreros! Rene, of course, is not impressed, blows her off and actually hangs up on her. [Add anything here you wish, Peeps.]
In other Resident news, Lili discovers Diego sleeping in the call room. He explains the whole sordid deal: he is responsible for the missing material and is having his entire check diverted to pay for it. Thus, he lost his apartment and has nowhere else to go. Lili is alarmed, thinks Gonzalo and Regina are being too hard on him! He waves off her efforts to find out more about their reaction. He’ll be fine. She agrees to keep his squatting in the call room a secret. Later, Diego observes Rafa come in and go to his locker, take some pills and leave. Rafa never acknowledges Diego’s presence.
Earlier in the day, Rafa had chatted with Cinthia about her family; he thinks she should mend the rift and get closer to them. If she was able to forgive him; she should forgive them. Cinthia maintains that he doesn’t know how hard it is to get along with them. Cinthia must be afraid; the same fear that she has of having a serious relationship with anyone, he suggests, zeroing firmly in to her eyes. Cinthia denies but Rafa continues. “I have a diagnosis for you. You have a very noble heart and you’re very afraid to be hurt and because of this you’re always over cautious.” “You don’t know what you’re talking about,” Cinthia counters. “I’m never wrong in my diagnoses,” he says with confidence. “No, it’s that my family spent so much time distancing themselves from me that they don’t know how to act being so close to me now.” “But these are your parents!” Cinthia asks, “Why do you care so much!” “Because I know what it means to you!” “You don’t know anything!” “I just want to see you happy,” Rafa concludes. The tension drains away a bit from Cinthia’s face with a gentle smile. Later that evening Rafa eats left overs out of a takeout carton and chases it with straight liquor and a few (ketamine?) pills for good measure. He exudes loneliness. The next morning Tania awakens from a cat nap as Rafa enters the break room. He downs a bottled coffee. She asks him about the pills he’s taking. Rafa gets defensive and tries to blow her off. Tania stands firm, tells Rafa he’s got an addiction and needs to get help. His jaw is set with the determination of denial as he tells her he’s got everything under control so she needs to just back off! He leaves. We’ll catch up with Rafa later.
It’s the next morning. Let’s get this PSA for hand, foot and mouth disease out of the way. Ana is actually personable with an adorable little girl whom she diagnoses with the disease. (Mayo Clinic: Hand-foot-and-mouth disease — a mild, contagious viral infection common in young children — is characterized by sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is most commonly caused by a coxsackievirus. There's no specific treatment for hand-foot-and-mouth disease. Frequent hand-washing and avoiding close contact with people who are infected with hand-foot-and-mouth disease may help reduce your child's risk of infection.) This is the advice Ana gives the Mother in her firm, factual, non-fuzzy way. She prescribes a salve and the above treatment which the Mother must follow faithfully for six days! Nuff said!
Regina reports to the ER and is gifted with a personalized coffee thermos by Art in front of everyone. Regina really likes it and later shows it to Cinthia. Soon, the emergencies start flooding in. David attends a poor guy who walked through a window that must’ve been cleaned with Windex. (Gets your glass so clean, it seems to disappear!) He’s sliced up pretty badly and needs to be sewn and slinged up. Regina and Cinthia get a lady with some nonspecific ailment; it’s all just a set-up for what happens next. Anyway, the lady needs an operation and Regina gives her a pep talk about prioritizing her health over making money and being the key to getting back to her life and her job. The patient is wheeled away. Regina and Cinthia are in the bay next to David’s but don’t know it. They continue the conversation about the irony of Regina’s advice about work-life balance when she virtually lives at the hospital, the cute thermal mug and how Art wants a chance with Regina and what does she think.
Wellll, Regina is not sure but things have changed since they Kiss at the Kongress! David flings open the curtains and, looking directly at Regina, asks in a flat but firm tone for some help with his patient who has a fractured arm. Cinthia hops to, volunteering to help and goes to the next bay. Regina asks David to come in. He does so, closing the curtain behind him. His face is stony and he has never stopped looking at her. She asks how long he has been there; he says long enough to get an earful. Regina says everything has an explanation. Oh, I imagine so, David replies. “Now I understand many things. Excuse me; I’m going to attend to my patient.” David gives her a prolonged look, void of softness. Plaintive music plays as he returns to his bay and Regina looks sad. After each has taken care of their patients, they have a little face-off in the hallway. Regina calls to him; they need to talk. David doesn’t think so. Regina says she doesn’t have to explain anything to him, but she doesn’t want any misunderstanding between them. Well, he counters, why should he; she wouldn’t let him explain anything about Ana. Well! There’s was nothing to explain; it was obvious when they both came out of his room when she had come to look for him! David says with an edgy smile, “Okay, the way I see it, since we are adults, we don’t owe each other an explanation about what we do or don’t do, so you have yourself a good day!” “You as well!” Regina tosses at him as each turn on their heels and go their separate ways!
Okay. Let’s finish yet another episode in which we take a needle in the hip just like Rafa’s patient. Rafa is sweating and hesitant enough that the young man asks if he’s okay. Yeah, you’re going to feel a pinch and some coolness; in a few days you’ll feel better. He gives the guy the shot and poor guy immediately begins to feel discomfort, coughs and collapses. Rafa rushes him into an ER bay and the crew descends upon him. Rafa barks out orders and begins to bag the guy who is gasping painfully with the effort to breathe! Cinthia assesses he needs to be intubated and goes back and forth a bit with Rafa over who is going to do it. Tania regards Rafa with suspicion. Cinthia looks at the guy’s chart and sees he’s allergic to penicillin. She confronts Rafa and asks if he knew this and what exactly happened! The pus-sucking rat is in the background taking all this in with a calm smugness. “What happened?” Cinthia demands of a sweating, terrified-looking Rafa.
ENOUGH!
Lila, thank you thank you for catching every detail of this angst filled episode. So many problems , so many hurting people. You are amazing , and i appreciate having your recaps to look forward to as bleak reality continues to press on us all. Uff
I don't think that I have ever seen a show so full of PSAs.
Hand foot mouth disease sounds awful, but it is a common childhood disease .
Rene and that d*** putter. What a shallow dolt.
I feel so sorry for Diego. Poor kid living out of his backpack in the doctors ' lounge. I thought Lily might invite him to stay with her. As We watch the scene of the society ladies lunching, We are reminded that some have so much while others are just struggling to survive .
I hope everyone has a good weekend.
Yay for the recap; dang dang dang for the developments. Couldn't the writers have given us a few more episodes to enjoy the David/Regina rapprochement? No, they had to deep-six it right away.
But LILA, I DO love the way you write David/Regina scenes:
"...power outage with no functional backup generators! Regina, you and I have so many things to resolve.” Regina says, “That’s not necessary.” David moves in even closer, “I think so, because I’m going to be very honest with you…,” David makes his move; an attempt to emphasize his point and silence her mild protests with a kiss……when Luis enters the break room!"
The rhythm of that paragraph and the "yes! yes!" made me think of...well, never mind what it made me think of...it was great and really conveyed the potential passion currently banked in those two. When they let it go and it explodes, baby, head for cover! It's gonna be a big 'un.
Lots of other interesting scenes like rapacious, social-climber Constanza already promoting her husband to Director del Instituto when schmoozing Cinthia's mom. Blech. Hard to decide who's worse Coni or Mireya. But seriously, Mireya still wins hands down.
Some nice visual descriptions too:
[Rafa] "jaw is set with the determination of denial" Indeed. The addict will never figure it out himself. There has to be a well-planned intervention.
and "David gives her a prolonged look void of softness." Perfectly described. David has shut down his heart once again, or put it behind a "pared" as his name implies. Shoot! As I said, I was ready for a few more tender moments. And NOT with Arturo.
Good ol' Lili at least offered to bring Diego food. What a life this well-meaning fellow leads. While Marco is cosseted and spoiled in every way. Alas, too much like reality, that dynamic.
Thanks so much LILA. Another rip-roaring recap filled with precise medical knowledge but also some juicy romantic scenes. Way to go lady!
I am wondering where the writers are going to take this connection between Patricia and Constanza.
OT..I just saw the actress who played Gina in The last telenovela in Vecinos.
Thank you Lila! Medicos is the only TN I'm watching at the moment and your recaps are a godsend!
JudyB, my goodness! I nearly choked on my orange juice at "The rhythm of that paragraph and the "yes! yes!" made me think of...well, never mind what it made me think of..." LOL!!!
SpanProf-I too noticed that Cinthia's mother didn't mention that her daughter works at the Instituto. I am really, really hoping Constanza's exaggerating Rene's title works alongside his slimy horribleness to bring about a big pie to the face for him when the two couples finally get together. Hopefully, he'll bad mouth Cinthia, lie about something that Cinthia has shared with her mom or SOMETHING and it'll get back that that Head Institute Guy he's always sucking up to by way of Cinthia's parents.
I do think Rene's holding the resources used for Gabriel's diagnosis in a back pocket to exaggerate later on to Head Institute Guy.
Poor Regina! While she and David are being extremely childish about their attraction, she just had to deal with Diego's good-hearted thievery, followed by the lawsuit threat and now Rafa has gone and made a legitimately huge mistake while on pills? Put together, it's going to give Ana's "this post is too big for you" whine some teeth if/when Rene continues his campaign to ruin everything for everyone all the time forever.
Hi Dulce followers! I am not fully following this one, but in trying to catch up on Medicos here on Caray, I'm getting a sense of it. I did see a few scenes over the past week though, so I might try to get on this train. Anyway, from what I saw/read here on Caray:
Regis is sooooo pathethic! Definitely an old-school villain, straight out of the whiny, entitled category which is so unattractive at any time and even less attractive to me when I see it in a grown man.
Someone in a previous post mentioned that there might have been a baby swap with Josiane? After the few scenes I've seen, I'm already ready to believe that theory and my mind has jumped all the way forward to Josiane discovering she's the daughter or very poor people or very uncaring bio parents (Sweet Ambition will become Sweet Comeuppance then!)
I really, really hope the Lyris, Agno, Gilda storyline doesn't become an affair between L and G.
I must say, it is refreshing to see another race on a TN. I'm used to Mexican novelas, so I was honestly surprised when I saw a black family appear on the screen.
Oh, and I forgot to thank Di! Without your recaps, would not have understood enough to follow anything enough to make any comments :)
Oooops! A mistake:
Paco and Elena share a knowing smile which says she will accept it into the family piggy bank without Paco’s knowledge.
Should be Daniel and his Mom, Elena share a knowing smile which says she will accept it into the family piggy bank without Paco’s knowledge. ]
Re-proof-reading the recap; see you Peeps in a bit!
" Rene continues his campaign to ruin everything for everyone all the time forever"....while practicing his putting....
Howdy, Susanlynn! Yes, Hon! I'm sorry! Harsh realities ARE pushing in and I thought I would be describing a yummy kiss but, alas, Regina and David are interrupted AGAIN!
Hand, foot and mouth disease and Diego living from hand to mouth, Girl! It's almost too much! Yes, that WAS quite a contrast with the society ladies. I wonder what Gonzalo will do when he finds out, as he surely will, that Diego is living in the call room!
You have a wonderful weekend, too, Susanlynn. Let's check back in if we can think of anything positive going on! Sheesh!
JudyB! WAAAAAAH! What are they doing to us, Girl?!
The rhythm of that paragraph and the "yes! yes!" made me think of...well, never mind what it made me think of...i
Girl! You know me!! JudyB, you know, it's a love story....y'all know I been ready to hear the shredding of a bodice...they won't provide it, I'll do it myself! HA!
When they let it go and it explodes, baby, head for cover! It's gonna be a big 'un.
AMEN, Sister! If that doesn't happen, let's storm UNIVISON!!!
JudyB, I know I'm alone at Rafa's table. I know he brought this on himself, but I feel so sorry for him. When he was eating that cold Chinese take out from a carton and drinking straight liquor with a ketamine chase, I felt so sorry for him. When I saw him sweating and panicked that he may have likely killed a patient, my heart broke for him! What's wrong with me? Do I need help, too! Cinthia! Help Rafa! He loves you! Is it too late?
Thank you for that bit about Lili. I thought I heard her say something about food for Diego. She's a sweetheart!
Gracias a TI, JudyB!
Hey JudyB, Lila, Steve Boudreaux, Hellashelle, SusanLynn, everyone who wrote back about DULCE,
There is no reply button on my side so by the time I scroll through to the place where I can leave a comment, I have long forgotten your names! Plus I lose so many long, thought out replies because I cannot get the pictures right! The only reason I can post the recaps is because I do them on another paper and then type them in the box, so when I lose them too, I still have the paper copy!
Believe me, I treasure your responses. That's why I am here, to find some company during this period of isolation. I have been sick since late January with only a slight recovery when I started writing about DULCE. I guess I am hanging on because the novela is all about staying positive, and though I too was really shocked at the "gory" beginning, I feel like it is actually helping me get through my problems as well.
So DULCE followers, thank you for thanking me! It is my pleasure and I love your replies. I know most of you are excited about MÉDICOS and were put off by DULCE when it started. But it is getting very interesting. That said, it has such a different feel and rhythm to Televisa productions so it is hard to watch them back to back.
SpanProf! Thank you for chastising David about Regina's kiss. He needs that and somebody needs to tell Regina not to jump to conclusions. I guess where still understanding of her lack of trusting men because of the Sergio fiasco. I guess David should understand that, too.
Yep, they're stringing us along about Gabe...and Constanza is setting herself up to look ridiculous...serves her right since, as Susanlynn noted, she does seem to be the unseen brain behind Rene's claw to the top scheme!
Span, do you think it's too late for Rafa, though. Marco knows he abuses drugs, sees clearly what happened with that patient and has both Rene's and Montesinos's ears. This could be big trouble for Rafa AND the Instituto!
HelleShelle! I remember you from back in the day! How ya' doin'? Thank you so much and welcome to the Patio!!!
You make some interesting points that we have to watch for: Cinthia being a Guerrero; and this, I do think Rene's holding the resources used for Gabriel's diagnosis in a back pocket to exaggerate later on to Head Institute Guy. Let's watch and see!
Sadly, HellaShelle, I think you are REALLY right about this most recent crisis about Rafa's HUGE mistake!
t's going to give Ana's "this post is too big for you" whine some teeth if/when Rene continues his campaign to ruin everything for everyone all the time forever.
This was a rough week, wasn't it!?
Di! We are all a community here and it takes effort to sustain this on the internet when, I suppose, these days a lot of people have Twitter communities and tweet with a few strokes! An internet blog takes a lot of effort as I know first hand and I appreciate you! Even more kudos to you for having to go through several steps to get you recap posted and taking on this show single-handedly after having been sick. I doff my hat; I send you Love and good vibrations!
Again. I hope to watch Thursday and Fridays show. I like to watch before reading a recap. I'm glad I have the weekend and so will get back with you a bit later after watching and reading both those recaps.
Are you composing on a laptop, desktop or phone? We are happy to offer any tips and I know Rgv and the other blog stalwarts who manage and have kept this amazing community going, are here for you and for us all!
Thank you for your efforts, Di, and for an amazing first week!
I hear ya, partner. Rafa's apartment is always a depressing sight. Looks unkempt, unloved, and neglected. There's no comfort to be had there. And evidently no lasting comfort in his brief ("Sorry, can't stay the night sweetheart) amorous encounters. He's like a puppy, though seemingly nonchalant, following Cinthia around the hospital. So yeah, I feel for the guy, LILA. Don't think you're off-base at all.
But he reminds me of that line from When Harry Met Sally when he asks her how long she wants a man to hold her after they've had sex. All night, right? And for a guy, a couple of seconds seems enough. I'm mangling it. Nora Ephron's line was much classier but clearly Rafa is currently in the few seconds category, after lift-off, and that does not a relationship make. Or a saving grace.
Maybe our Tania, who's currently earning some stars in her crown after a rough start, will be the one to get him clean and sober. And then a fitting partner for our picky, cautious Cinthia.
Enough furtive skullduggery. Bring on some romance writers!!!!!
JudyB, Yes, I am fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese. I'm just watching in dubbed Spanish on antenna TV but I still can "hear" what they probably are saying in Portuguese. And I look up the Brazilian adverts to listen to the actors in their own voices. SOOO many of them are GREAT actors, and Nathalia Timberg (Gladys, Régis mother and Maria's former employer) is yet ANOTHER nonagenarian in this novela!
Hellashelle, Brazilian novelas have a history of subtle social commentary. Right now with the military occupation of the film institute, it is very interesting to pick up the little clues in this novela every now and then. The diversity is still not as true as it really is in Brazil, but at least it's better than Daniel Zepeda in La fuerza del destino crossing the border desert representing the path of indigenous Latin Americans. But wasn't it nice to see Gilda and Amadeu so naturally begin their relationship. And her teal dress for the job interview was just lovely.
Lila, I wrote a long message about how I felt about Maria and Josiane but it was lost. I adore Maria and I don't think the mother/daughter relationship is hopeless. Well, I hope not! It's a good idea you're watching DULCE separate from MÉDICOS because people really like your MÉDICOS recaps and it would be impossible to follow both one after the other.
SusanLynn, were your students like Agno or like Octavio? Or maybe Régis????
Steve Boudreaux, STOP reminding me of the violence! I really want to pretend it's not coming /jk
Lila, your recaps are the antidote to cure whatever may ail one. Just fantastic. I think you cannot possibly surpass what you've written, and then, the next sentence proves me wrong. Time and again.
"David had knelt before Regina with a relieved and passionate recognition that she, too, was fueled by that same unnamable force that drew him to emergency medicine and now it was drawing them to each other!" had me (almost) quivering as did "His eyes lock into hers to demonstrate his earnestness". Sigh.
But as in life, things change in an instant, don't they? "David gives her a prolonged look, void of softness" made me grimice. Bad timing haunts the ER like a specter.
I will join the club in wondering why Cin's mom remained mum that Cin worked at the Institute. Hmmmm.
Thank you for "bitter hag" which had me smiling. Such an unhappy young woman. Whatever caused her to become that way?
I'm glad Lili is looking after Diego. I hope Daniel remembers Diego is struggling and keeps those huge sandwiches coming.
Thank you for explaining Daniel and his mother have some sort of secret savings. I am afraid money under the mattress may not be enough to help Paco if he fails to meet the loan payments.
We needed only to see the signs highlighted by your wonderful words: "Rafa never acknowledges Diego’s presence","He exudes loneliness", "Rafa gets defensive and tries to blow her off" and finally "...his jaw is set with the determination of denial as he tells her he’s got everything under control.
"Let’s finish yet another episode in which we take a needle in the hip just like Rafa’s patient" summed up the grim scenario perfectly.
Lila, you aren't alone at Rafa's table. Addiction is very real but people can and do change. Am hoping Rafa's patient pulls through and he is able to get the help he so desperately needs.
Such wonderful comments today everyone.
This blog line has been such a supportive refuge for me over the last dozen years. I did not have a good week and I know that while our issues may differ, we are all struggling with so much. Prayer and the patio have helped me through darkness. Bless you all.
Lila, you are talented, kind and generous. Thank you for giving so selflessly.
Diana
Di, not all of us are watching. That doesn't mean we are not completely supportive of you and everything that you are doing.
Isolation and loneliness can be felt by yourself or with others. The pandemic and everything else in the world is more than unsettling - it is frightening. Our physical and mental health cannot help but be paramount and handling everything is challenging.
Thank you for everything you are doing.
Diana
Di! Just finished Thursday's DULCE and your recap! What a complicated story! Your introduction made a fabulous grounding and you covered all the action inthis fast-paced, gripping story! I am torn: I like Gilda; she helped save Amadeu's life, physically and emotionally and literally helped him get back on his fee! To say it hurts to have your husband go gah gah just over the name of his (thought-dead) fiance is an understatment. Gilda is very hurt but did the right thing to tell him to go find her. Now, I haven't seen Friday and am skipping comments about it so as to not spoil it for me. It was so tense seeing Amadeu and Maria in the same store and just missing each other! Nope! He didn't see her. They didn't see each other, but it's bound to happen! This is going to be epic.
How sorry I am to see that Old Lady Matheus is still out for Maria's blood. UUUUUff! I guess that's what novelas are made of.
I'll comment later after I watch Friday and read yours and other comments about Thursday and Friday's shows. This show is already off the chain and you're keeping up with it with vigor and humor!
Thank you so much, Di!
Well, I'm like a greedy child, ready to skip dinner and go straight to desert! So I watched Friday's episode. Agree with you DI, that Regis is a total waste of oxygen. How can he have any self-respect, and how can his port-addictive mother be PROUD of him. Ridiculous. And sad.
I did get quite a kick out of the attempted "let's recover our young romantic days" fiasco. There's a great country song called "Kiss Me In The Car" where the singer laments the perfunctory kisses he gets leaving for work and wants a steamy kiss like the ones they once gave each other in the old jalopy of their dating days. Which conveniently is still in the garage. He's inviting his wife to join him there and God willing, it doesn't end up as badly as with Lyris and Agno. I will admit that going with one's husband to a motel for a night out is somehow much more inspirational than making love at home. Maybe Lyris should try that.
So sorry to hear that you've been ill, but hope that with time you will recover your health completely. One would never know from your recaps that you are suffering from any problems. And we are delighted to have you join our community. The conversations we have here are vital to our mental health, at least, because our social lives have become so restricted with the pandemic. And I have had the curious experience of developing a real love for yard work simply because I am sick and tired of just cooking, reading, cleaning and watching a few telenovelas. If I could be out and about, yard work would disappear off my roadmap for sure. But since I'm stuck at home, apart from once a week grocery shopping, I'm happily planting, watering, weeding, pruning and generally just mucking about. In desperation at first. But finding out finally that it's also good for the soul.
Wishing you whatever you need to not only FEEL better but BE better. And thank you for all these lovely recaps and the gift of your abilities in Portuguese. It's a language of music and love for sure.
Hey, JudyB@ 3:45, thanks for the therapy and the character reality check, clearly Rafa is currently in the few seconds category, after lift-off, and that does not a relationship make. Or a saving grace.
Yah. Tania has a good heart, she's redeeming herself and she really treasures Daniel's friendship and I think that's all it will be. Daniel would clearly be too tame for her. I think she would relinquish Rafa to Cinthia. Tania lost her fun and games spark when she called him out on his addiction. I think Rafa really loves Cinthia, though. If he survives this really big SNAFU, maybe he'll get help and he and Cinthia may be drawn to each other. If she did't know about his drug use, she's about to find out now as she clearly knows he screwed up with this patient!
Our rallying cry:
Enough furtive skullduggery. Bring on some romance writers!!!!!
As to the Brazilian students I tutored ... I had a young female dentist, a young female scientist, a mother and daughter ( the mother was a school administrator\artist and her daughter was a law student.) Another student was a man who was a manager for a big steel company . They were all love!y people , and I learned a lot about Brazil from them. Our secretary was also Brazilian.
Di @3:48 How blessed to be fluent in these two beautiful languages! I was surprised that my Xfinity captions are English. Because it is dubbed in Spanish, the Spanish is clear and not "burdened" with a lot of colloquialisms so I am understanding it very well. I would love to find the Portuguese version just for fun. I watched the other two novelas on Globo in Portuguese and did pretty good understanding it. I'm trying to keep the old noggin' from getting fuzzy and language practice is excellent and fun!
Thank you for explaining about the lost post. That's a bummer! Di, I record DULCE and try to catch it on breaks from my (COVID stay-home) job. If I were still driving to work five days a week, I wouldn't be able to do either. I suspect I've been around the sun a few more times than you so staying up late to watch a spirited novela at 10 p.m. gets me too hyped up to sleep but makes a nice treat the next day. I also prefer to read recaps after I watch.
There are so many characters and story lines in Brazilian novelas, it seems. Your fluency in Spanish and Portuguese and your familiarity with Brazailian culture and the actors give you a unique gift and I thank you for sharing that with us. I don't know what else you do, but if, like me, you came here to CARAY to distract and entertain yourself and "meet" some like-minded folk, that is a noble cause. Combine that with your love for the story and just let "Di" speak as you retell the tale. As I was told, do it your way and only do it as long as it's fun or beneficial!
Diana! Hola, Amiga! I finally made it around to you, Kid!
Diana, they're really driving me to distraction! I just KNEW we were going to get a passionate kiss! Darn them!!
May Cinthia's Mom is really smart and is trying to hear what her Daughter's work associates are like before letting on that she's her Mom? Pardon me if someone already suggested this! Patricia's a pretty smart cookie and VERY protective of her Baby Girl!
Yah, they got us, Diana. I haven't made it to Urbanita's comment yet. She's always up on the Univision scissors. Something is out of place here. Regina already let Art down easy and relegated him to the friend zone. What's with this personalized thermal mug?
Thank you for the Rafa therapy as well. I know some of you have seen him in other things, but I think the actor is nailing his role and I think he is so beautiful with his soft eyes, prominent cheek bones and biblical locks. I'm sorry. He'll probably always be Rafa to me.....unless he gets a buzz cut and facial tatoos!
Bless YOU, Diana! I know we all hold different views about the nature and existence of a spiritual realm, but I find everyone respectable and will always extend my hopes and prayers for everyone's well being. We all have our lives and struggles but each of us is "someone else" to others so I wish us all well. Thank you for your kind words, Diana! Please know you are deeply appreciated, my Dear!
ITA with Susanlynn! Susanlynn, I didn't know about your loss until recently but I sensed a difference in your online presence. My heart did and does go out to you! CARAY helped me get through the alternating illnesses of both my Parents, both of whom passed during what turned out to be a five-year hiatus. None of us knows how long the challenges and changes of COVID will last and many of us have not seen this kind of unrest since the 60s. I know we don't do any kind of political discussions here, and BELEIEVE ME, I don't want to get into that and came here to GET AWAY from it! I only mention it to say that yes, these are trying times and the good folk have made CARAY a refuge to which you are welcome, Di!
If there are folk out there who read ANYONE'S recaps on ANY SHOWS, you don't have to write a novel... just say thanks if you read it and it helped you understand and enjoy the show! Post a smiley face emoji or something! Or, join the conversation if you're comfortable. Anywho, dismounting soap box.
Ok. Hope to watch Friday's DULCE soon! See ya!
Thanks for all your kind thoughts and so sorry about your good friend Anita.
I too am trying to keep up with this novela and I am glad I put in the effort because it is getting more and more interesting. Writing the recaps helped ME figure out who's who, so there they are if anyone else wants to jump on board and needs a foundation to do so.
Personally, I really like Agno and I think they're trying to tell us he's gay. I hope, hope, hope it turns out well for him. The family he married into is not nice, with Gladys kicking out pregnant Maria twenty years ago, to Régis already threatening Agno for money. That finger in the face upset me almost as much as some of the shootings early on.
They don't even care about each other, as Régis is robbing his own mother. And now poor Gilda is mixed up with them, too!
As I read your recaps and comments, I get the definite feeling that you were meant to return to caray at this particular moment in time. You seem to be very perceptive ..not just about the story and characters but also about the folks here . You are so right that my presence here has changed as it has also changed in my real life. I am definitely not the same person I used to be.I've had a lot of losses , but this loss is different and devastating .
I'm sorry, Honey. Once I take someone into my heart and ask for their blessing, they are always there; if you don't mind, I invite you as well. I don't have any profound wisdom; I just believe if we can, we should help each other through "life" whatever it ultimately turns out to be.
Thank you Lila!
“David was terrible turned on” LOL!
I was slightly comforted by the fact that it wasn’t Art that interrupted them, but yes I will need to join the collective primal scream haha
David’s sad puppy dog eyes killed me!
Regina is acting absurd. She wants to “explain” what happened with Art but still refuses to listen to anything David has to say about Ana! They were both acting childish with their bickering, but seriously if they are ever going to clear things up Regina has to not only explain “her” side, but also be willing to listen to what David has to say. When David tried to explain what happened in Puerto Vallarta, Regina told him “we are both adults and can do whatever we want,” so I don’t blame David for turning around and using that same phrase with her. I guess I’m childish too hahah
There was a scene with David and Luis in Gabriel’s room where David is saying everything will be fine, they’re doing everything they can, etc. Luis says it’s easy to say that when you’re a doctor, but it’s a completely different thing to accept when you’re on the other side and it’s YOUR child. I really liked that scene, I thought it was very realistic.
Rene actually tells Gonzalo to “use all the resources available at the instituto to diagnose Gabe.” So he is not only hoping they use a lot of resources, he’s pushing them to do so. He will definitely use that later
Hey, UnOP! You are so right! Neither of these folk are teenie boppers, they need to grow up, talk and face what they feel! Sheesh!
Thank you for bringing this out, UnOP:
There was a scene with David and Luis in Gabriel’s room where David is saying everything will be fine, they’re doing everything they can, etc. Luis says it’s easy to say that when you’re a doctor, but it’s a completely different thing to accept when you’re on the other side and it’s YOUR child
Yes, that is SO TRUE.
ITA, I heard Rene say that as well about use all the resources. I thought he was deciding to play it cool and accuse Gonzalo of wasting resources but you think he WILL try to use that later? Ah! That's very possible! It would be dirty and untrue, but then, that's Rene, isn't it? That made me so mad when Miryea saw the admission of a sick child as an opportunity to dish dirt on Regina and Gonzalo! That is over the top! What can we wish on Miryea that would require emergency medical care, or Rene, for that matter!
Thanks, UnOP!
OMG!!!! I just finished Friday's show! Adorei!!! Amadeu and Maria de la Paz see each other! OMG!!!! That is SO POWERFUL!!!! I am so happy for them! I'll read your recap and talk about what else happened later but their love story impressed me so much and his being shot in the back at the altar and their Mothers' cruel lie! This is the best thing ever!!!
Thank you in advance for your recap, DI! I'll see y'all tomorrow. I don't know what's going to happen with these two and I don't want Gilda to be hurt but just seeing them see each other has made up for the beso-interruptus in MEDICOS!
Boa Noite! Buenos noches! Good night!
Obrigado, Di! Just finished your recap! Excellent! There are a lot of moving parts and interesting characters in this but, as you see above, MY eyes were locked on Amadeu and Maria de la Paz! Yes, I'm here for the language, but I loves me some love stories! I can't wait for Monday! Other happenings I liked:
Lyris trying to revive the "good ole days" of their youth complete with make-out session in the car. Agno was NOT into it! That was hilarious! I see you thought the writers are trying to make him out as secretly gay. That could be. I wonder if he's just not physically into her? What if, once Amadeu and Maria see that each is not a ghost but their real long ago Love that never died, what if he leaves Gilda and Agno takes up with Gilda? Just a thought.
Régis is useless. That's pretty much all he deserves to have said about him. So in 20 years the bum never worked? Jeezopete! And Jo thinks he's rich! This was also funny:
.... (hate to tell you, Maria, but I don’t think this was her first time)...
Besides the REUNION, the other thing I loved most was Vivi defending Jo when Rocky tried to out her as being of poor and vulgar origins. What nerve he has, having grown up with Jo. He even exposed their childhood sexual explorations. Vivi showed him in front of everyone that HE is the one that's trash! I like how Vivi has never denied her origins and held on to the amulet her Great Granny gave her! BRAVO!
Thank you, Di! Excellent work! Now. I certainly want to keep up with this novela, but due to doing MEDICOS and my job responsibilities, I may not respond until the next day, or it will be very variable. I hope people who are watching this would hop on board to join in the fun, acknowledge and appreciate the tremendous effort your putting in to cover this show!
Maybe see ya later, Obrigado!
Lila, you are really knocking these out of the park! I know Diana said it first, but seriously, everytime I think you've outdone yourself, you prove me wrong! Reading your rendition of the David/Regina scenes is like reading a Harlequin romance writer; are you one of the many Harlequin authors? :-) In addition to that you bring insight and point out the smallest of details that I miss. Thank you so much!! And I had a belly laugh with this...
Tranquila. Tranquila. I think we need to this more often LOL
"Paco and Elena share a knowing smile which says she will accept it into the family piggy bank without Paco’s knowledge." Can't believe I missed that! I worry about Paco and his pride. he really needs to confide in Daniel.
Susanlynn,"Rene and that d*** putter. What a shallow dolt." Can't agree more!
JudyB, "The rhythm of that paragraph and the "yes! yes!" made me think of...well, never mind what it made me think of..." AND Lila. "y'all know I been ready to hear the shredding of a bodice...they won't provide it, I'll do it myself! HA!" Naughty minds think alike...me included!! LOL
SpanProf, I'm with ya...hope SOMEONE helps Rafa with his addition. And YES!! Regina needs to forget about that kiss...it was really NOTHING, especially to her!
HelleShelle, "I do think Rene's holding the resources used for Gabriel's diagnosis in a back pocket to exaggerate later on to Head Institute Guy." Oh, yes, definitely!!
Lila, " I know I'm alone at Rafa's table. I know he brought this on himself, but I feel so sorry for him." Oh, Lila you are SO not alone at the Rafa table...I already see some others, like Judy and Diana...bring in a round of Margaritas! There are so many things that he has done (wrong), but I do like the guy...maybe I'm just one of those types who cheers for the under...(very under)dog and wants to "fix" them.
Diana, "I will join the club in wondering why Cin's mom remained mum that Cin worked at the Institute. Hmmmm." I'm there too! Maybe Patricia is holding off since she just met Constanza. Do we think Pat is sharp enough to know that Conz is full of bull?
Di, rest assured that your recaps are quite enjoyable and appreciated. And Caray is definitely a place where you can find very caring people who give support, comfort, and whatever else you need to get you through these rough times. Sending you prayers and good vibes to recover from whatever ails you.
You did a fantastic job at conveying Friday's events. WOW!! Then ending left me on the edge of my seat! I didn't expect Maria and Amadeu to meet so soon, but I suppose it goes in line with all the other coincidences that have already occured.
HellaShelle, "Regis is sooooo pathethic! Definitely an old-school villain, straight out of the whiny, entitled category..." Yes, pathetic! But handsome..and oh my! you shoulda seen him in the shower! Everyone on this train knows that I am still obsessing about that shower scene LOL
JudyB, "I did get quite a kick out of the attempted "let's recover our young romantic days" fiasco." Oh Em Gee! That was hilarious! Poor Lyris has been trying so hard to get Agno "there." PERO NADA!!
Hellashelle, "I really, really hope the Lyris, Agno, Gilda storyline doesn't become an affair between L and G." You really think so?? That never entered my mind. I did however, think about Di's comment that Agno is gay. HA! Maybe Agno can get some tips from Britney!
Lila, you posted while I was writing. Thank you for pointing this out becuase I completely forgot...
the other thing I loved most was Vivi defending Jo when Rocky tried to out her as being of poor and vulgar origins. What nerve he has, having grown up with Jo. He even exposed their childhood sexual explorations. Vivi showed him in front of everyone that HE is the one that's trash! I like how Vivi has never denied her origins and held on to the amulet her Great Granny gave her! BRAVO!
I first thought that Vivi was going to be made out to be a spoiled rich bitch, but I'm so glad to be proven wrong. HURRAY for Vivi!! The sisters finding each other will be another powerful encounter...MUST. SEE .TV!!
Hello all. Hope everyone is having a good weekend .
I was teaching in a senior high school when I was right out of college , and I was amazed to find out so many kids were taking drugs. I had never been exposed to them in my smsll, rural school or at college. I know that someone on drugs can look straight into your eyes and tell you that they are fine and not taking drugs. I like The actor portraying Rafa . He played a computer whizz in Dragon . When we first met Rafa , we saw him using drugs and chasing wonen. THen, we saw that he was pursuing Cynthia . I wondered if it was just the challenge because she was not falling for his charms like Tania and others , or is he was truly pining for her. It is hard to trust a lady's man because you always question if he can be faithful to one woman. I think that , in the end, Rafa will reform with the love and support of Cinthia.
Rgv Chick! Hola y Muchisisimas Gracias!!! (did I make that up?) Thanks a whole lot, Girl!
Rgv, I haven't kept up with novelas in the past few years...have they been starvin' y'all like this? Why are they playing with us with David and Regina? It DOES make you want to holler, throw up both your hands! Jeezopete! Let these kids love each other, throw a few monkey wrenches in the way that they fight together, but PLEASE, give us some lovin'!
Ok, I'll calm down!
Except THIS is going to make me MAD!
HelleShelle, "I do think Rene's holding the resources used for Gabriel's diagnosis in a back pocket to exaggerate later on to Head Institute Guy." Oh, yes, definitely!!
Do we think Pat is sharp enough to know that Conz is full of bull? YES!
Gracias, Rgv Chick!
Yes, Rgv Chick, we were on the same wavelength in our comments! I LOVE the pacing of this. That they let Amadeu and Maria re-encounter each other so soon is soooo satisfying and it makes you want to keep watching because you feel respected, instead of like a fish chasing bait!!! And this:
I first thought that Vivi was going to be made out to be a spoiled rich bitch, but I'm so glad to be proven wrong. HURRAY for Vivi!! The sisters finding each other will be another powerful encounter...MUST. SEE .TV!!
Judging by the reunion of our lovers, I think the two sisters are going to meet pretty soon! MUST SEE TV indeed!!!
Susanlynn and all. I wonder if they're going to give us Rafa's backstory? I hate what he's going through and I hate even more that the pus-sucker knows what the deal is! I just want Rafa to survive. Even if he loses his medical license and is fired, let him live; clean himself up and find some LOVE. I hope Cinthia doesn't turn her back on him because of this, yes, HUGE and SELF-INFLICTED mistake!
Also, as I said in the DULCE comment, let these crazy kids, Regina and David, love each other and fight the baddies together because I think more $hit is about to hit the fan!!
Love Marco's new nickname "Pus Sucker" LILA. I suppose we can call him PS for short, but Pus Sucker is so much more satisfying.
I am anxious to see how the Pat- Con storyline unfold. We know that Pat loves loves loves her daughter. We also know that Cin's father does not support Cin's decision to become a doctor ....no idea why . We also know that Con has been pushing smarmy Renee to climb up the social ladder to success and money. So ..how will this equation play out?
JudyB, the writers making Marcos provide the suction for that poor sick guy is disgusting and satifying at the same time! HA HA HA!!!
Susanlynn, you are right! I need to pay more attention to the Pat/Cin/Rene/Con storyline. I agree that Patricia es MUY LISTA. I think she's already got Constanza's number. Yah, I need to watch the intrigue there as this is definitely NOT a romance story! (And yes, those are sour grapes!)
Thanks, Lilia. I appreciate all the detail you covered on David pulling back that curtain and shooting daggers at Regina.
Does anyone know if there will be a second season of Médicos, like there was with Por Amar Sin Ley? I'm starting to think David and Regina will keep this stalemate to the end, like the couple in PASL 1.
Kinda glad I missed Marco sucking pus -- eeeooh! But it couldn't happen to a better pet rat.
I too can't help rooting for Rafa. Hopefully, the patient survives and Rafa finally accepts he's addicted and can't kick it alone.
Susanlynn, I’m so sorry to hear you lost your love. That kind of pain runs so very deep. I hope between your friends IRL as well as online can help when you’re feeling lonely.
Di I’m happy to add to the convo! Such a small payment for all of the work re cappers do :)
Di, I am enjoying your recaps. I don't always watch Dulce in real time, but I wouldn't be watching it now if it were not for your alert that the mafia killings from the beginning would give way to cakes and romance. There are so many characters, and your recaps help me keep up with who's who, who's related to whom, and who's done whom. Your writing is vivid and fun. This line made me smile: Fabiana is kissing all the little girl nuns goodbye. And you cleared up my puzzlement about Lyris's chest. So that was ketchup on it? Muchas gracias for sharing your Portuguese and Spanish fluency with Caray.
I feel for Amadeu and Gilda. He's never forgotten Maria, and he was honest with Gilda from the beginning. I don't think he'll be able to get Maria out of his system. Poor Gilda's worst nightmare is coming true.
Looking forward to the Vivi and Fabiana sisters reunion.
Niecie!! Hey, Girl! You are welcome! Niecie, I hope they don't do that to us! If there's a second season, then they'll be into COVID-era taping and that means NO BESOS!!!!NOOOO!
But you could be right! Let's see!
Hellashelle! Yah, Girl, we need each other in these weird times!
Rgv Chick! YES! See! This makes it more fun! Y'all know I was bummed out about the second almost kiss in one day, but I feel much better now. And, I'm not cheating on my MEDICOS Peeps but looks like I may get my fix in DULCE!
Niecie, I did read that there will be a second season, but Livia Brito may not return...she been a bad girl! There is talk that she will be replaced by Eva Cedeño.
Yes, there will be a second season, so I don’t expect everything to get resolved and to have a “happily ever after” ending, but PLEASE novela gods don’t let David and Regina be one of those unsolved things!!
I also read that Eva Cedeño might replace Livia Brito, but it wasn’t an official announcement, so who knows. At first they had planned for the second season to air at the end of this year, but because of Covid they delayed filming until next year.. the waters may have calmed in regards to Livia by the time they start filming season 2
OH EM GEE! Hellashelle, I just took a good look at your avatar. Looks scrumptious!! I'll take one of those LOL
Rgv Chick and UnsolicitedOpinions, thanks for confirming there will be a Season 2. I hope they stick with Livia Brito.
Would they be recasting the part or replacing the character? Neither prospect really pleases me but what is the issue?
I'm probably wrong, but I think Pat didn't say anything about her daughter working at the Instituto because she just didn't connect it or even paid much attention to what Constanza was babbling about. She (Con) was so excited and talking a mile a minute that Pat (as I would have done) just seemed to tube her out. Cinthia's parents are so against her being a doctor and working outside the family business that she (Pat) may not care enough to know the complete name of her daughter's workplace.
My understanding is that they are recasting the part, so Eva Cedeño would now be “Regina”
I know you usually don’t talk about the actors’ personal lives on here, but maybe this can be an exception since it affects the telenovela...
I’ll try to make it short, because it’s a saga. Few months ago Livia was in Cancun and a paparazzi snapped a pic of her with her boyfriend. Livia went up to him yelling and slapped him, scratched him, and took his camera. She gave the camera to her boyfriend, who then hit the man with it and busted his head open. Livia and the boyfriend then ran away taking the man’s camera, wallet, and backpack. This was on a public beach, so someone took a pic from their hotel room and posted it on social media. Livia answered and said the picture was old because she had not been to Cancun, that she was currently in CDMX! Multiple people who were there come forward to talk about the incident, and apparently Livia said she was “tired of Mexicans” (estoy harta de los mexicanos). All the while Livia claimed she had not been even been there.. in the following days, multiple videos surfaced, clearly showing Livia and her boyfriend there with the paparazzi bleeding from the head and we can also see Livia running away with the man’s items. After it became obvious that Livia lied and she had actually been in Cancun, she went radio silent for weeks, maybe even a month. That entire time, and to this day, social media was in an uproar about this incident. Livia is Cuban, so people in Mexico want her to leave the country since she is “tired of Mexicans”. Mexicans do not want to see Livia Brito. To give you an idea of the magnitude of their anger, Livia was a guest co-host on Programa Hoy last week and people were outraged. They spent days bombarding programa Hoy’s social media accounts with negative comments saying it was disrespectful to Mexicans to have Livia on the show. The day Livia was on the show, it recorded it’s lowest ratings EVER
Yikes! What a brouhaha! I hope the cameraman is ok. Sucks for us though; I was really enjoying her on this show
Ah, Caray! That's too bad because I like Livia but can totally understand people's anger toward her. If the part is recast, there's nothing anyone can do. Livia IS Regina, as far as I'm concerned but, alas, it's only a tv show. I don't know the other actress. If she's good and has the energy that Livia brought to this, I could get into it. It's weird when they change the actor. I remember Will Smith on Fresh Prince making cracks about how "Aunt Vivian" had changed when they made a switch of actors over some dispute or other. I don't think anyone will break the third wall in the novela, but it will be weird.
LOL Urban Anthropologist!
Precisely, by taking the paparazzi’s camera and belongings, Livia thought she had gotten rid of the evidence and thus felt confident in saying she never went to Cancun.
There was a lady there in the area talking on the phone when the commotion happened and Livia took the lady’s phone to make sure there were no pictures of her. The lady didn’t even know Livia was famous, had no pictures, but Livia tried to break her phone anyway. The videos that were taken were from above, people recording from their hotel rooms.
Weeks later there were messages leaked where Livia had asked some politician to have all the surveillance videos from her hotel erased, and he did.
As I had mentioned, it’s a saga!
Well, it will be interesting to see how this unfolds . Whatever happens , we here at caray will just have to roll with it as always.
