I'll do the recap tonight

dondi356

Hija #10 part 1

Candan and Oyku arrive home and Jilet’s guy is still watching. He checks in with Jilet— no sign of Demir. Oyku will change and they will cook dinner dinner together. Oyku asks Candan, will you visit me in the orphanage? Let’s sit, says Candan. Your dad will come beck tonight. Oyku doesn’t think so and says, I know he wants me to go to the orphanage. It’s ok, there are lots of kids there. I’ll make lots of friends. Will you visit? Candan tries to comfort her. Your dad will be back, you’ll see.

Demir is getting drunk with homeless guys at the docks. He asks them, what do you guys do in winter? One guy says, we’ve never seen you here before. Don’t you have a house? Demir laughs and says he’s homeless and they all laugh together. Demir continues, do you know what else I don’t have? Friends, relatives, a job, money. You know what’s up with me? I have no character. I used to have two good friends; we were like brothers. They are not with me and that’s my fault. One is going to jail the other just got out. Because of me!

Well Demir does have something—a daughter! He doesn’t know where she came from but somehow, he did it. And he abandoned her! And there’s a beautiful woman, Candan, who helped him. Demir says, I decided to escape. I abandoned them. I got into trouble that’s what I always do. I get others into trouble. Demiir goes to lie down for a minute but he will be back because he still has a lot to tell.

Oyku is asleep with Candan. Candan is teary. The doorbell rings and Candan goes to answer. It Mu-rat. Are you ok, he asks? I came right way when you called. (oh no, she called him?) What’s happened? The school admins are sending Oyku to the orphanage. Where’s her dad? Candan must admit that Demir has been missing for two days. Just what Mu-rat wants to hear. He starts in, I told you this guy was not trustworthy. How can someone neglect their own child? Candan relates a bit of the backstory. Oyku has only met her father recently. Her aunt raised her and then suddenly disappeared.

Here’s the reason she called Mu-rat! Can you help me, she asks? I want to adopt Oyku! What? Did you think this over? You can’t go around saving children just like that. Now he says something really crappy: Adopting Oyku won’t bring Seda back. She looks hurt but manages to respond swiftly, I know Seda is dead but Oyku is here and she needs me. I want to help. Mu-rat quickly apologizes. Candan excuses herself to make coffee.

Hija #10 part 2

Cemal shows up at the docks. Demir thinks he must be dreaming, but, no, it’s Cemal. (this guy is everywhere!) What’s he doing there. money? Cemal asks, where the girl? She’s with Candan. Demir says, there’s something about the girl. She’s not like other kids. Cemal has news, Oyku won’t stay with Candan; they are sending her to the orphanage. How do you know? Well, Cemal has an interest in everything that happens in that house and he did research. Wow, exclaims Demir, I finally got rid of her. Cemal says that’s right, you got rid of her just like you did to everyone else. Look at me, Demir! As soon as that girl is gone, we will settle the score. Demir goes to hit Cemal but Cemal strikes first and knocks him to the ground. Cemal leaves.

Mu-rat says he will do what he can and goes. Oyku hears the door and thinks its Demir. She runs downstairs. No, it’s not Demir. Let’s go back to bed. She reads her The Little Prince. While she reads, we see out for the count Demir is being stripped of his shoes, his coat and his wallet. “What is essential is invisible to the eye, repeated the Little Prince to remember it.”

Next morning Oyku looks for Demir, who is still not home. Candan is trying to call him. Not available. Oyku says don’t bother to call again. They start to make breakfast. Oyku drops a bowl of eggs. (I can’t tell if it’s the disease or because she’s upset.) Oyku cries and hugs Candan. Don’t cry, don’t cry.

A bloodied and muddied Demir wakes up. He remembers what Cemal told him about Oyku. He gets up and stars walking.

Oyku and Candan have breakfast. Social Services will be there soon. Oyku’s ready. She tells Candan her aunt never made breakfast like this; we had bread and cheese, tea. This is so much better than what I had. Thank you for everything Candan. Candan replies, remember this is your house. You can come whenever. Your room will be waiting. We can make breakfast, play and study together. The bell rings. It’s the Social Services people. Candan asks for five more minutes. They will wait the car.

Candan and Oyku finish packing. She gives her some clothes and the copy of The Little Prince. They head downstairs and go out to the car. They are teary, then brave Oyku says, let’s not cry, Candan. She smiles and waves to Candan as the car pulls away.

At that moment, Demir runs up. Candan orders him, go get her! Bring her back now! Demir chases the car. Demir falls in the road but luckily the car is stopped at a light and he is able to catch up.

Demir shouts through the window, haven’t I told you not to go anywhere without telling me first? Oyku gets out of the car—where were you? She cries and shoves him, she was worried! She asks him, don’t you ever worry about me? They were taking me to the orphanage! The social workers get out and ask who is this man? Demir stares at Oyku and answers, I am Oyku’s father. They hug.

Everyone’s back at Candan’s. Demir is spinning another one of his tales. He left to see about a new job… he lost his phone… couldn’t call, couldn’t remember the number… blah blah, blah. He sees a lot has happened while he was away. He looks at Oyku and says, not to worry, I’m back and I’m not going anywhere. The social worker reminds him not to disappear without letting anyone know. She asks if they will stay with Candan. No, he found a house. Candan is surprised. Demir says he didn’t have time to tell her. Oyku looks excited. She starts asking questions about the new house Demir deflects further questioning. The social worker says they will need the address to check on Oyku from time to time. Ok, fine and they leave.

Hija #10 part 3

As he walks the workers out to their car, Demir notices Jilet’s guy is still there. Back inside, Candan asks Demir about the new house. She wants to go to see it and help them move in. He fast talks her and asks how about some coffee? Demir looks out the window at Jilet’s guy. The guy calls Jilet and lets him know Demir is back beut some official looking people showed up. Maybe they are government. Jilet doesn’t want trouble so he tells the guy to come back.

Demir changed his clothes and made the coffee. She wants to talk. Where were you? He told her. She says he told nothing. Well, he left because he had a job offer. Candan says Oyku was devastated. He can’t leave without saying a word. Oh, and BTW, a strange man came looking for you. Yes, I owed him money, says Demir. But it’s been settled with the advance from the new job. She asks about his condition when he arrived. He says he fell.

Candan tells Demir she knows he didn’t raise Oyku. Demir admits they didn’t know about each other but he assures Candan things will be different from now on. Candan asks if there is anything else she should know? Is her hiding anything else from her? No, of course not (NOT!).

We see Ugur in jail. A big guy shouts at him to bring him some tea. Ugur babbles on about tea. How does he want it? Weak or strong? Big guy answers, he should know and if he doesn’t like it, Ugur will regret it. Ugur thinks his mom would be ashamed if she knew his situation and he curses Demir.

Oyku unpacks. She drops clothes because she has a spasm in her hand. She repeats to herself, it will go away calm down, Oyku. Calm down.

Candan gives Demir an old phone to use. She insists she wants to help. He goes to check on Oyku.

Are you alright, Demir asks Oyku? He flashes back to Zeynep, why did you abandon her after 8 years? She didn’t tell you? Oyku asks Demir, why didn’t you let them take me? What changed your mind? He gets annoyed at her questions. Then Demir turns the tables and asks Oyku, what are you hiding from me?

And we are out.

Wow, dondi356, what a wonderful recap! You've captured everything perfectly. I especially liked "out for the count Demir."

Actually, Cemel did more than just knock Demir to the ground. Once Demir was down, Cemel kicked him hard several times. I think he left Demir unconscious.

I was quite surprised that the people who were bringing Oyku to the orphanage felt it was acceptable to leave her with a filthy-looking man with no shoes who probably reeked of alcohol and garbage.

I desperately want this novela to have a happy ending. It's hard to see how that will happen if Oyku really has Niemann-Pick. I assumed that even her dropping the eggs was caused by the disease, but even if it were caused by nervousness, her dropping the pajamas seems more evidence of the disease. Unless, of course, she's so worried about the diagnosis that she assumes anything she drops or forgets is a sure sign when it may not be.

HIJA

Dondi, exceptional recap of such an emotional episode, thank you!

Watching Oyku preparing to leave and leaving was heart wrenching. But Oyku shows how mature and brave she is when she asked Candan not to cry.

"Now he says something really crappy: Adopting Oyku won’t bring Seda back." Oh, how I wish Candan had thrown him out at that moment!

You'd think Demir would have learned his lesson about lying. Where the heck is he going to find a house. He's definitely not buying one, so is he going to find some abandoned home and "squat" there. Maybe he'll go live with Ugur's Mom? The man just doesn't think before he opens his mouth! He's getting frustratingly stupid.

Hija

Thank you, Juanita and Rgv Chick, for the kind words and your comments.

You are right, Juanita, Demir grabbed a hold of Cemal’s leg and he got a vicious kick in the face or head in return. And yes, why was Demir’s condition overlooked by the social workers? I wondered if something was edited out. Candan asked about it later. Although she was skeptical and asked if there was anything else she should know, she didn’t press the issue.

Rgv Chick, Demir is a practiced dissembler. I think it’s a survival mechanism that will be hard to break, but eventually Oyku and Candan help him change. Goodness knows where he and Oyku will go this time. Hope it's not back to the tent.

dondi356

hija

Terrific recap, dondi! Thanks so much.

Most of what occurred to me has already been posted in Rgv Chick and Juanita's comments. My eyes actually welled up with tears when Oyku was trying to make Candan feel better about her going to the orphanage. And she kept up the brave face until she was in the back of the car and then began to cry.

I am going to be frustrated if Oyku doesn't tell her father about her diagnosis tonight.

I hadn't caught that Candan called Murat. I thought he just did his usual number of showing up without an invitation.

One good thing came out of the awful episode. Jilet's thug left and maybe Jilet is worried that "the government" might find out about his skullduggery.

I have no idea where they're going with Demir's lie about having a job and a house. Actually, moving in with Ugur's mother would be a good thing. She'd love having Oyku there. But I have no idea how Demir is going to come up with any money to support the two of them. And, come to think of it, they never explained how he was able to afford an apartment at all.

Looks like Ugur is going to be a slave to the large, threatening master in the prison.

hija

I'll do some sort of recap of tonight's episode.

Todo por mi hija - #11 - p 1 de 3

Demir again asks Oyku what she's hiding. She insists she's hiding nothing. "What do you want me to tell you?" she asks.

The scene shifts to Candan's house. She's having a problem with a faucet in the kitchen sink where the water won't stop running.

Demir goes to see Ugur's lawyer. "I know he got caught red-handed," says Demir, "but isn't there any way for him to get out of this?" The lawyer tells him that if Ugur tells who got him into this mess, the lawyer could talk to the prosecutor, but Ugur refuses to say anything. Demir recognizes that Ugur doesn't want to name Demir, because they're friends. But then he has an idea. "I know who's behind the operation. A guy who goes by the name Jilet. The lawyer says they need proof that he's the instigator, they have to catch him red-handed. Demir says he thinks he can make this happen. He asks the lawyer, "Can you send the police to an address I give you when I ask you to?" The lawyer says he can.

In the jail, Ugur presents the fat guy who was bossing him around with the tea he demanded. Since Ugur didn't know what kind of tea he wanted, he has prepared half a dozen different teas. The guy tells him he sees he's not as stupid as he thought, and he doesn't want any tea. Ugur gives the six teas to other prisoners.

Demir goes to see Jilet. Jilet is furious with him. Demir tells him he knows Jilet wants to kill him, and he wouldn't have come if it weren't worth it. "I'm here to make you rich," he tells Jilet. "First of all, forget about Candan and the paintings. That's too risky. There's a much better deal, a safe in Yenicoy filled with diamonds worth thousands of millions of pesos." Demir tells him that Korkmaz gave the job to him, but he's decided to do it with Jilet in order to pay off his debt. They arrange that Demir, Jilet, and two of Jilet's thugs will go to the house in Yenicoy. Demir will steal the diamonds while the other three wait in the car. Demir will bring the diamonds to them, they'll go their separate ways, and everyone will be happy. Jilet agrees. [How this will prove that Jilet is the instigator isn't clear.]

The four men drive to the house in Yenicoy. They park near the house. Demir gets out of the car, picks the lock on the gate guarding the house, and goes up to the house. He then stands by the house's door and makes a phone call, presumably to the lawyer who will notify the police. A short time later, he tries to break into the house, thereby triggering the house's alarm. Almost instantly, the police arrive. The guys in the car try to drive off, but police cars block them on all sides. They're arrested, while Demir runs away unseen.

Cemel goes to some sort of club with dancing and a bar. He orders a beer and looks around, focusing especially on a young woman dancing rather sexily by herself. She spots Cemel and goes over to him. "How did you find me?" she asks. "You haven't changed," he says. "You neither," she replies. "I was in prison for 8 years," Cemel says. "I know," she replies. Cemel wants to know why, if she knew, she never came to see him. She shrugs. He then asks, "Why did you cheat on me with Demir?" Apparently this isn't the first time he has asked her this question. He then tells her, "I found your daughter, Oyku. She's with Demir."

Demir tries his best to enter Candan's house without making any noise. However, Oyku hears him, comes down the stairs, and asks where he was. None of your business, he replies. Oyku asks whether he's done something bad. "If you did something bad, they'll come and take me to the orphanage." He assures her that he did nothing bad, in fact, he did a good deed. Oyku asks him to go upstairs with her and read to her. He at first refuses, but then relents.

Todo por mi hija - #11 - p 2 de 3

The young woman who is apparently Oyku's biological mother comes home, quite drunk or stoned or both. She drinks some more. She takes out a photo of three young people, two guys (probably Demir and Cemel) with a woman in between them.
She remembers Cemel at the club that night saying to her, "I want to ask you a question, Asu. Don't lie. If you lie, I'll do what I've been thinking about doing for 8 years: I'll kill you." [As far as I know, we don't learn what the question is, unless it's the one Cemel asked earlier: why did she cheat on him with Demir.]

In the morning, Candan comes into Oyku's room to wake her for school. She sees Oyku asleep in bed and Demir asleep sitting on the floor with his head on her bed. She tells Demir that Oyku needs to get up or she'll be late for school. Demir tries to wake her, and when she pleads for more time, he picks her up and carries her into the bathroom, where she brushes her teeth. He tries not very successfully to comb her hair. When Oyku comes down for breakfast, Candan asks whether she'd like her to do her hair. Oyku thanks Candan. Candan asks about the house Demir has found to move to. Demir says that the current tenants haven't moved out yet. Candan then gets a call from her lawyer--he has a buyer for her house.

Demir takes Oyku to school, but I'm not clear whether they walk the whole way. As they're walking, Oyku asks whether he's going to have the car fixed. Demir tells her he's not, the car is dead. As they get close to the school, he asks her again what she is hiding from him. Her answer is the same as before. When they reach the school Mercan is there, and he greets Oyku. Demir is clearly worried. "Who is that kid?" he asks, distrustfully.

Ugur goes into the prison yard where a number of other prisoners are. One guy suggests to another that they should give Ugur a welcome he won't forget, but the guy warns him to leave Ugur alone. "That's the guy that betrayed Jilet." The first guy says Ugur betrayed the wrong guy; he's a dead man, and so is his family.

Meanwhile, Demir goes to see Ugur's mother. He tells her that Ugur is still away on business--in Russia, so he can't get his phone to work. Ugur's mother is concerned about how cold it is in Russia, and does he have the warm clothes he needs. Demir assures her he does. "I just want my Ugur back," she says. She thanks Demir for all he's done for her and for Ugur. As Demir leaves, he sees photos on the wall, but I couldn't see what they were.

Candan is walking and talking on her cellphone. She crashes into Celem (or perhaps he put himself in her path?). He's in a jacket and tie and frankly looks muy guapo. They apologize to each other. He keeps looking at her.

Candan arrives at the lawyer's office and finds MuRAT there. Yup, he's the person who wants to buy her house. He claims he wants to turn it into a clinic for the neighborhood. Candan accuses him of doing it simply to help her. The lawyer tells her that she should consider the offer--it's hard to sell historic houses, especially expensive ones like hers.

Demir comes to see Ugur. Ugur is furious with him. Demir tells him that Jilet was arrested last night, and if Ugur tells the prosecutor what he knows about Jilet (whose real name apparently is Tahir), Ugur may be released. Ugur wants to know what they'd do then. Get real jobs, says Demir. Ugur is concerned that real jobs don't pay well, and that it's easy for Demir because he has a very rich girlfriend.

Todo por mi hija - #11 - p 3 de 3

Mercan and Oyku walk out of school together at the end of the day. Mercan gets upset that his mother isn't there. Oyku points out that if his mother doesn't come, he can just walk home. "I've never walked home by myself," admits Mercan. Oyku then assures him that she'll wait with him until his mother comes. Mercan is relieved. Demir then arrives and is again not pleased to see Mercan with Oyku. Demir wants Oyku to come with him now, but she insists that she's staying until Mercan's mother comes. Demir calls Mercan's mother, who is caught in a traffic jam. She asks Demir whether he can stay until she gets there. He agrees, but he says to himself, "Now there are two of them. What am I going to do with them?" Sounding like a father to a prospective suitor, Demir asks Mercan what plans he has for the future. Taken aback, Mercan finally says he may be a veterinarian like Oyku. Demir next asks what Mercan's father does. He works in a bank.

The interrogation ends when Mercan's mother arrives. She thanks Demir again and, as she's leaving, she mentions that there was an incident a few days ago in which she didn't speak very well of him, she imagines Oyku mentioned it. No, she didn't say anything. Oh well, it wasn't all that important. Thanks again. As soon as she leaves, Demir asks Oyku about the incident. Oyku tells him it had nothing to do with him, so don't worry about it.

They arrive back at Candan's. She's not yet home. Demir fixes the faucet that had been giving Candan trouble. Oyku is delighted. Her father is a good person. Candan returns, with MuRAT. She tells Demir that she has sold the house, and MuRAT is the new owner. Demir first says, "Are you serious?" but he then offers congratulations. He mentions that, coincidentally, this is also the day when he and Oyku will move to their new house. The landlord called to tell him that the tenants had moved out. Oyku wants to know when he called, and why didn't she hear the phone ring. Demir tells her that she was upstairs doing her homework and he was downstairs. Candan tells Oyku that she'll help her pack. Finally, Demir and Oyku leave Candan's house. Demir tells Candan that he'll call after they're settled. Goodbye. Candan and Oyku hug sadly as the episode ends.

Hija

Well done, Juanita!

That sting operation to get Jilet and crew was totally ridiculous. Will those charges stick? Is this the last of Jilet. Seems too convenient.

So Oyku’s bio mom, Asu, is back in the picture. She didn’t seem too surprised to see Cemal but she looked surprised to find out Oyku was with Demir. From that picture the three might have been in the orphanage together. Since Cemal thinks she cheated with Demir, I’ll bet the question is who is Oyku’s father.

So Mu-rat wanted the house to open a clinic. I don’t think this is the last of him either. Wonder what’s going to happen to the contents of the house.

Oyku and Mercan have a very nice friendship. Hope that Ilayda and Demir do nothing to break them up.

Great comments, dondi356! Many thanks. Now that I'm more awake than I was when writing the recap, I too have the suspicion that the question Cemel wanted to ask was not why did you cheat on me (which, of course, we saw him already ask) but rather who is Oyku's father, Demir or me? Are we going to have another big DNA reveal--or non-reveal--as with Ozlem's child in Cennet? Though surely Asu must have given Zeynep Demir's name and address....

I thought the three people in the photo looked a bit too old to be in an orphanage, though I suppose it's not impossible the three were still in their mid-teens.

Yes, I fear that we're going to hear and see a lot more of MuRAT. And I still think it's likely that MuRAT may eventually be the means by which the Bad Doctor will find Demir and/or Oyku. Arrgh.

And why was Cemel in a jacket and tie when he and Candan ran into each other?

Hija

I can do a short recap. It might not be up until tomorrow morning.

dondi356

hija

Late to the party. Busy day with working from home until late afternoon when, get this, my Advanced Spanish class is meeting on Zoom! we are currently reading, and discussing, Mario Benedetti's book of short stories: Montevideanos.

I thought it was ridiculous that Demir was so concerned about two 8 year olds of opposite sexes spending time together.

I didn't worry so much about whether the sting that caught Jilet would stick, just that they grabbed him up, along with his henchmen.

This whole Mu-RAT plot device is very weird. We agree that he HAS to have more motive than love since he didn't apparently contact her for years until he heard of her father's death. Could the father have hidden some valuables in the house?

Asu is a big disappointment. I thought they'd go with some huge reason why she had to leave her baby. And the fact that she paid for years for Oyku's upkeep had me thinking she was a good person. So far, no apparently maternal instincts.

Frankly, I never considered that Cemal may consider himself Oyku's father. Why would he want to be the father of a child with no money to go along with? My impression was that a big part of the reason he hates Demir so much is sexual jealousy. So, I suppose those of you who believe he wants to be the father believe that he just wants to thwart Demir by claiming himself the bio father?

hija

Yes, I too thought Demir's worry about Mercan being with Oyku was absurd. I suspect the absurdity was deliberate on the part of the writers, but I think it was a bad choice.

Like you, I am not really concerned about whether the sting that caught Jilet will stick. However, I like schemes that make sense, and this one didn't, IMHO. The lawyer made a big point of saying they needed to prove that Jilet was the instigator, but all the police have are three guys sitting in a car when the house alarm goes off. There's no indication of who planned this. The car isn't even inside the grounds of the house.

I still haven't figured out what I think of Cemel. I confess that I find him quite attractive physically, and I could imagine him in the role of the galan in a different novela. Perhaps that's clouding my judgment, but I can believe that Celem could be quite taken with the idea of being a father and having a daughter.

Hija #12 part 1

Oyku and Demir leave Candan’s house. He will send her the new address later. As they walk away, Oyku asks if she can visit Candan and will Candan come to visit us. Demir tells her no. No more Candan, its’s just us now. Candan has her own life and so do we. He doesn’t want to hear any more about it.

Cemal appears on their way. (Good grief, this guy shows up at every turn!) Is he following them all the time? Seems like it. Demir reminds him he has nothing, just like him. Oyku is watching from a distance.

Asu is sleeping with the pic next to her. The doorbell wakes her. Guess who? It’s Cemal! She’s not happy to see him but he somehow talks his way in. She hides the pic behind a sofa cushion. He wants the answer to his question. Flashback to the question— is Oyku my daughter? Cemal demands an answer. Asu evades, saying she has to get dressed, she has things to do.

Demir and Oyku show up at their new place, a hostel. Oyku is disappointed. It’s not a house. She wanted a house. Demir thinks she should be grateful for what they have and warns her not to cry. Oyku is very upset. She says, you lied to me and Candan! He responds, did you want me to admit I couldn’t afford a house? Yes, she did and he’s nothing but a liar. He blows up at Oyku Your mom and your aunt abandoned you but you say I’m the liar? Oyku cries, my mom is dead! If she was alive, she wouldn’t have left me. She runs and locks herself into the bath.

Candan tells Mu-rat about her new clinic. She thanks him for everything as he leaves.

Oyku gets into bed. She’s all weepy. Demir lies down beside her. He tells Oyku he didn’t want to stay at Candan’s after finding out Mu-rat bought the house. Still, Oyku wishes he would have told her the truth; she would have left with him anyway. Demir felt he had no choice because Candan wouldn’t have let them go. He wants to make up with Oyku. Oyku agrees but first she asks him to promise that he won’t lie to her again. They touch fingers and make a promise. Demir is a little teary, too. Ok enough of this, go to sleep now.

Candan realizes Demir fixed the sink.

Demir flashes back to Candan asking if there is anything else she should know? He couldn’t tell her.

Next morning, Demir’s phone rings. It’s the lawyer. Ugur is getting out! Demir wakes Oyku. Hurry, you have to get to school and I’m getting Ugur.

Ugur was granted parole and is released. The lawyer warns the two, watch yourselves from now on. Ugur doesn’t want to see Demir. Demir tells Ugur he set this up for him. He said he would fix it. Demir says, hit me if it makes you feel better. He tells Ugur he’s sorry. Ugur doesn’t stay mad for long. He asks, how’s mom? How’s Oyku? They are friends again. Demir catches Ugur up on what’s happening. What’s going on? Did Oyku make an honest man out of you? Ugur asks Demir how he paid for the lawyer. Just as Ugur sold his dad’s watch to get Demir out of jail, Demir sold his car for Ugur. Well, they have nothing left to sell, so they better behave or next time they will stay in jail.

Candan is moving into her new office. She gets a call to see a patient. On her way out, she runs into the ubiquitous Cemal. He tells her he’s moving into this building. What a coincidence, she has her clinic here. Hi neighbor, I’m Cemal. See you around.

dondi356

Hija #12 part 2

Ugur arrives home. His mother is thrilled to see him. Mufide invites Demir in and they eat. Demir takes some food to bring to Oyku. Ugur says he’s a good father. While Mufide makes dessert, Demir tells Ugur he found Oyku’s aunt and that she’s not really her aunt. She told Demir that Oyku’s mom is alive. After Ugur gets over the shock, he thinks this is good. Now Demir can find the truth. They think back to all the women he dated back then. They start to make a list.

Cemal goes to a car dealership. He meets with Arif. Arif owes Cemal big time. Arif would have been killed if it wasn’t for Cemal. We don’t get details on this. Arif asks Cemal, if he found “her” and does it still hurt after all this time? Yes, and it still hurts. Arif helped Cemal rent his new apartment. Cemal asks for more money because he still needs to settle some scores. No problem, Arif will give him whatever he needs. Then Arif asks about the “girl”. Is she yours? No answer.

Back to Demir’s list. There are quite a few on the list already. Who else? Ugur mentions Asu and Demir’s expression changes. He tells Ugur to forget Asu, that was a long time ago. He doesn’t want to think about it.

Asu is looking at her notebook again. She reads, I don’t feel ready for the new year and a new life. In a few days I will become a mom. I will have a daughter. I can’t believe it. I ask myself over and over, what if she’s like me?

Oyku is doing her homework and Demir is thinking about the list. He tells Oyku that Ugur is taking her to school tomorrow. She asks Demir for help with math. He’s stumped and not much help. He tries to play it off, accusing her of having him do the homework for her.

Demir wants to know what she keeps from him. Like what? What haven’t you told me about yourself? She says there’s a lot of stuff, but she doesn’t keep track. She bit Ilayda. She cut class with Mercan. He's shocked; she shouldn't be doing these things. Oyku says other stuff is unimportant. She doesn’t understand why he wants to know. She wants to finish her homework. End of discussion.

Ugur takes Oyku to school. She says, promise you won’t do any more bad stuff with my dad. Ugur sees a woman dropping off a boy. He’s attracted to her. She assumes he’s Oyku’s dad and he goes along with it to impress her. Your wife is lucky, she says. Uh, his wife…passed away. Oyku was a baby when she passed. She thinks Oyku is a lovely name. Well, he picked the name himself because he likes literature (Oyku means story). They walk out together. See you later. Ugur is ecstatic, he calls Demir. He will pick up Oyku after school, too.

Demir is meeting up with a woman on the list. She’s married for 8 years and she has 4 children. He realizes she can’t be Oyku’s mom. He makes apologies and a quick exit.

Oyku is drawing a picture. It’s Candan, her house, her car and her dog. She misses them. She tells the teacher they moved out to a beautiful house with a garden. Teacher says, remember your dad has to give the school your new address.

Candan calls Demir. He doesn’t answer. Cemal appears at the clinic door with coffee.

And we are out.

After last night, I think that Cemal really loved and still loves Asu and it is important to know if Oyku is his. He feels betrayed by Demir and Asu. I can’t say if Cemal really wants to raise the girl and form a family with Asu, but there is also that macho stereotype of pride in having the ability to father a child.

As for Asu, she’s a real mess. Maybe she was abused, maybe she was in the orphanage. I suppose that will serve to partially explain her behavior and why she abandoned Oyku.

Hope we get the backstory soon.

Thanks very much, dondi356, for yet another impressive recap.

My impatience with plots that don't make sense was triggered right at the beginning of this episode. Demir and Oyku are leaving for their new "house." Candan says he hasn't given her the address, and Demir replies that he can't remember the name of the street!! Huh??? How does he expect to go to the house if he doesn't remember the name of the street? Also, since the house sale and Candan's move seemed to have taken place almost in the same day, how is it possible that her new clinic already has seemingly expensive signage announcing that it's a vet clinic? Did she just happen to find an already existing vet clinic available for instant move-in?

Like you, I'm surprised at how often Cemal seems to pop up, not just with Demir and Oyku but also with Candan. And is it just a coincidence that he is moving to an apartment right next to Candan's new clinic? And again, what's with the jacket and tie that he seems to be wearing whenever he runs into Candan?

I loved the scene where Demir and Oyku are sharing the bed, and Demir winds up with Oyku's feet close to his mouth.

I agree that Asu seems to be a real mess, but I think she was probably thinking sensibly when she gave up her baby. She recognized that she wasn't ready for motherhood, that she was in no position mentally or financially to care for a child, and she was also fearful that her daughter might wind up being like her.

I found it amusing that after berating Demir for not telling the truth, Oyku herself lies to the teacher about where she lives. And Ugur seems to have joined the Liars' Club big time with the whopper he told the woman in the school yard.

Thanks so much, dondi, for the terrific recap! And thanks also for telling us what Oyku means in Turkish.

Juanita, Cemal doesn't do a thing for me. That perpetual scowl and menacing behavior. To me he's a classic villain. However, I do believe he has a thing for Asu. Whether he's even capable of love remains to be seen. They are just stringing us along with which of them is Oyku's father since Asu isn't saying.

Ugur hasn't reformed much if he lied like that to the woman at the school. Will we be treated to weeks of his pretending to be a father and would Oyku even go along with it?

I find the house sale and new vet clinic very confusing. It didn't so much bother me that Candan had gotten so much done so soon. This is Telenovelaland, after all. But...Murat already closed on the house? And she's still living there although she doesn't own the house? They haven't mentioned her finding another place to live, only a place to work. We presume she got some money for the sale that permitted her to rent the clinic.

What I gathered from Cemal's conversation with Arif is that they were in prison together. Arif was probably in there for some sort of white-collar crime. And Cemal defended him from the tough guys in prison.

I really enjoyed the scene where Demir and Ugur decide they're still friends.

As for Cemal moving into Candan's building, I suppose I thought he did so to seduce Candan and spite Demir. But this all happened so quickly. I doubt they're cutting scenes as they've done in other novelas, but they sure don't explain much.

I'll do a brief recap tonight. Friday I'll be out most of the evening. My regular, once a month women's group will be dining outside, masked except when eating. We will also watch, on Debbie's computer, a performance by Hershey Felder. This guy does solo shows where he portrays famous composers. He does a monologue as the composers and also plays their music. We'll be watching Gerschwin tomorrow night. But he's also portrayed Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven.

OT

novelera, just thought I'd mention that I saw Hershey Felder performing Gershwin a couple of days ago and enjoyed it a lot. It was the first performance of his I've seen, but now I'm tempted to see what he does with Beethoven.

Hija

Thanks, Juanita and novelera. Great observations and comments.

Juanita, it’s hard to watch as Candan continually accepts Demir’s absurd BS’ing.

I could buy that Asu felt she was not capable of raising a child and would want to give her up, but to leave her with Zeynep?

I didn’t get the idea they closed on the house, but that the deal was accepted. Anyway, I’m sure Mu-rat will not hurry Candan out. This will give him another excuse to pop in whenever.

novelera, I think you are right about Arif and Cemal knowing each other from prison.
I’ve seen the actor who plays Cemal in other series. He’s a good looking guy. I think the hairstyle, beard and the “perpetual scowl” makes him less attractive and that’s how they wrote Cemal. I saw a brief smile last night and I’d like to see more of it.

Cemal is definitely stalking Candan for purposes of revenge on Demir and so he must dress the part.

We could be missing bits and pieces that would help us fill out the story. If you remember, Juanita, we found that out when we watched Cennet. Typically, Turkish dizis run once a week for about 2 hours. They must be edited to fit into the typical 45 min format and number of episodes. So who knows what they cut.
