"VENCER EL MIEDO":

RGV Chick: The flashbacks from how Omar's Daddy got killed by Omar's young cousin confirmed it was a terrible accident.

1.) Omar unhinged & angry goes off on his uncle. Safe to say Omar wants nothing to do with little Bruno or his uncle for that matter.

2.) Big question is whether the late Horacio knew about it & helped cover it up many years ago ?

3.) Marcela, Marcela, Marcela: Paulina Goto does a good job portraying incompetent protagonistas.

4.) Once again: Marcela's sister gets framed for something she didn't do & got kicked off the swimming team.

5.) Rommel plotting more crimes.

Hola, Peeps! Prayers for everyone on the west coast for your loss and hope for safety and recovery; likewise for everyone on the gulf coast as yet another tropical system grinds its way in! Peeps, here is my offering for today. If you saw the episode, you know we’re still in prickly, not warm and fuzzy; we’ve got shrieks and not sighs. So, add, correct, and amplify: I’ve nipped and tucked to keep this scratchy sweater from irritating us too much!

Rafa’s awful blunder
We begin and end this episode with Rafa who was doing his rotation In the OPC when, while clearly impaired, he gives a patient who is allergic to it, a shot of penicillin and has to rush the guy to the ER! Cinthia demands to know what happened, didn’t he even ask the guy if he had any allergies? That’s basic assessment Cinthia demands! Rafa bolts; Cinthia takes over management of the patient’s airway; Lili assists while Tania looks on with concern and Puss Sucker thinks this is golden ticket! The Rafa story unfolds and is interspersed with essentially two other major developments. Let’s get those out of the way.

Airing $hit-stained laundry in public
An apparently happy couple are on their way to enjoy a little afternoon delight. The young lady, Perla [so Random Chick is NOT Perla!] is giddy with anticipation to be with the amor de her vida! Samuel wants to be ready when it counts so he pops a couple of little blue pills. Moments later, they’re at the hotel but it’s not skyrockets in flight, it’s gasping and grimacing and collapsing to the floor! Perla calls 911 and accompanies Samuel to the ER! Regina, David and Art attend Samuel. It’s very clearly a heart attack which requires an urgent intervention! Samuel’s condition is grave; he may not survive! They need signed permission to do a life-saving procedure STAT! Regina and David approach the distraught Perla to get the signature. She can’t sign. Samuel is not her husband; he is her brother in law! They are appropriately adamant that Perla cannot sign so she calls her niece, Valeria, to tell her that her Father is gravely ill and in the ER, but she needs to keep it on the down low! Well, it’s more like low down on Perla’s part! Valeria is with her Mother, Perla’s sister and Samuel’s wife, Natalia! What the heck is Perla doing with her husband she wonders aloud as they rush to the ER!

Long story short, Natalia finds out her husband is clinging on to life after a massive heart attack because he was with HER SISTER who announces “we love each other!” Natalia relieves the shock and horror of this revelation with a war cry of ZORRA! and a resounding smack upside Perla’s head! WHOP! Perla has the nerve to return the slap and a squealing; hair-pulling, snatch, grab and twist-fest ensues! The only thing missing is the mud! Oh, wait, Perla already supplied that verbally with her monumental and disgusting confession. ER staff descend upon the two, pulling them apart! Natalia demands and Valeria backs her Mom up that this person is NOT a part of the family and she needs to get out NOW! Natalia demands that Perla not be allowed in the Instituto at all! Regina and David tell her they cannot stop people from coming into the Instituto, but she can certainly keep Perla from entering Samuel’s room.

MÉDICOS #44, 9-14-20

Later, Perla approaches David alone and begs him to let her be with Samuel. David verbalizes understanding but is unmoved and firmly restates that they will respect Samuel’s wife’s right to forbid her visiting Samuel and she has no role in receiving medical information or participating in his care. Luz and Regina later get signed permission for a balloon angioplasty. The cool computer graphics visually describe the guiding of a catheter which contains a tiny balloon which will inflate at the area of the blocked artery, thus restoring vital blood flow to the heart. Natalia has to be urged to sign the sheet; she is consumed with rage at the context of this emergency. She does sign and gets an update from Regina after the procedure. Samuel has survived, he is better but very critical; after leaving recovery, he will be go to the ICU. Regina doesn’t recommend visiting until the next morning. Natalie wants to give Samuel what for and find out what in hades is going on! Natalia cannot believe her husband cheated on her with her own sister; the last person she thought she’d have to watch out for! Natalia begins to get agitated again at just the thought of the nightmare she is living. Valeria finally convinces her that it’s best they leave. Natalia storms off. What about Dad’s clothes? Throw them in the trash Natalia yells! Valeria picks up the bag of clothes and scurries after her Mom.

Gabriel
Daniel continues researching Gabriel’s symptoms and tests results as they come in to discover what is wrong with young Gabe. Gonzalo checks in with Daniel and shares his assessment thus far. Dr. Gonzalo Olmedo thinks it could be Kawasaki’s Disease. * Yes, Daniel shares that Luis had said the same thing but Gabriel does not fit the usual patient profile: this disease usually afflicts younger children! Gonzalo acknowledges this but, though rare, it can afflict older children. Daniel is not sure! He’s got to keep trying. This is not just professional persistence; it’s personal; Gabe is his good friend’s son! Gonzalo shares this sentiment, of course and counsels Daniel on holding emotion at bay while maintaining a clear, cool and precise mental stance! Daniel later finally accepts his colleague’s encouragement to go home and get some rest. [*”Kawasaki disease causes swelling (inflammation) in the walls of medium-sized arteries throughout the body. It primarily affects children. The inflammation tends to affect the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle. . . Signs of Kawasaki disease, such as a high fever and peeling skin, can be frightening. The good news is that Kawasaki disease is usually treatable, and most children recover from Kawasaki disease without serious problems.” Mayo Clinic.] Luis manages to rise from the pall of fear and grief that covers him to do Samuel’s surgery; he thinks it will be therapeutic for him. The surgery, as noted above, is successful, but we observe that Rafa is nodding out during the procedure as Regina notes. She will mention this at the end of the day to Gonzalo who somehow turns it into an encouragement that these young Doctors heed to take some time off! [Chime in please Peeps. That interchange kinda threw me off! Is that because moments earlier, Marta told him he worked too much!?]

MÉDICOS #44, 9-14-20

Rafa’s awful blunder…follow up
Outside the hospital, Tania tries to confront Rafa about what happened. It was just a mistake; he was tired, he maintains! Besides, the patient is stable, isn’t he? Tania presses that she knows “the mistake” was because he was high! Tania tells him again she is worried about him and he should get help. He coldly and firmly tells her not to mess in his life! Tania says she has no choice but to go to Regina. Tania later shares her concern without naming him, with Pamela who uses that as an opening to talk about her concern about Diego. Tania says her situation is much graver! Pamela encourages her, then, to do the right thing. Rafa goes back to the OPC and Ana is rightly concerned about where he’s been. Rafa tells her about the OPC patient ending up in the ER due to a bad medicine interaction. Ana vows to get to the bottom of it. “We don’t make those kind of mistakes here; this is NOT the ER!” She tells Rafa to get out! Ana goes to the ER looking for Regina to chew her out. She meets Art, instead, who coolly deflects her anger. No, he wasn’t there but it sounds like the patient had a strong allergic reaction to a medication. Ana tells him she hopes that Art is not lying to cover for Rafa. She gives Art the “I’m watching you” sign. He shakes his head with a smile as Ana leaves. Ana runs into Marco in looking at Cesar’s chart. He thinks “it’s interesting.” She examines the chart, asks if he knows what happened; was he there when the patient got sick? She says the information in the chart is incomplete and doesn’t give a clear indication of the course of events. Marco says when he arrived to the ER, the patient was already in trouble and being attended to. Doesn’t she think that’s strange? Ana baits him by saying she doesn’t trust Rafa. Oh yes, you should talk to the Nurses: they have all the scoop. Ana tells him she is not interested in gossip and plops the chart back in his hands. “What I don’t understand is what kind of ‘doctor’ are you that you were there and don’t know what happened!” She walks off, leaving Marco with pus in his mouth! At the end of the day, Marco makes one more try to blackmail Rafa into letting him do real doctor-type stuff like operate and stuff. Rafa listens as Marco threatens to tell everything he knows about Rafa’s drug use and this near fatal mistake. Rafa calls him out and, unshaken by the height differential, looks up at the pus sucker and tells him with a couple of hard pats to his face, “If you want to get ahead in Residency, exert yourself!” Rafa walks away. [Damn, boy! Imagine what you’d be like not high!]

MÉDICOS #44, 9-14-20 END

Earlier, Rafa checks in on Cesar, who asks what happened. Rafa vaguely informs him he had a bad reaction to some medicine. Lili and some other staff observe Rafa literally staggering in the hallway. He tells Lili he had a hard day and little sleep. Cinthia does go to Regina to talk about Rafa’s case but Regina’s head is spinning over Gabriel and, well, something personal. For a moment we are catapulted back to fourth grade as Regina tells Cinthia that David likes her and she likes him and that’s why she’s worried that David heard about the Kiss at the Kongress. Cinthia thinks it’s cool: it means Regina is getting past what happened! The confusion she feels is just how luurve starts sometimes! Cinthia says David is a good dude; yes, but he’s complicated Regina says and doesn’t seem to be cut out for a serious relationship; she doesn’t want to be hurt again. Cinthia calls after her that she should think about it as Regina goes back to work. Finally Tania enters the diagnostic war room as Daniel, Cinthia and Art finish conferring on Gabriel; Art and Daniel leave. Cinthia’s face immediately goes flat as Tania tells her she wants to talk to her about Rafa. Cinthia tries to remain closed, Tania persists: it’s not about work; it’s personal. Tania respectfully addresses Cinthia as “Doctora” and tells Cinthia she knows why Rafa made the mistake with the patient. “He’s taking controlled substances.” “How do you know?” “He had been acting very strange and a short time ago I caught him with opioids. I’m sure he’s abusing them.” Cinthia finally looks at Tania. “He needs help. I know that you care about him and you can help.” As Cinthia looks away, we feel the gaping void her heart has fallen into.

MEDICOS Televisa #52

Great work, Lila.

...All that was missing was the mud. Great description of the catfight; we haven't had one in a while although this isn't the one I was expecting. BTW, Lisette (of LQLVMR and MDC) is Natalia and Leonardo Daniel (of CdL 2019) is Samuel.

Rafael had better fess up before Marco turns on him. This little rat likely doesn't deserve this residency, as he wasn't accepted at other hospitals and he's at this one because his father called in a favor. We still know nothing of Rafael's backstory, which must be interesting. How long is he an addict? Why does he suffer from depression?

Ana is clearly gunning for Regina and it looks like she doesn't care who gets hurt along the way. What else is her problem apart from David? This is bigger than that rivalry.

We have yet to see an accident victim who will need a plastic/reconstructive surgeon. What were thw writers waiting for?

MEDICOS

Lila, your recaps continue to delight me, thank you! Oh my, what messes you had to retell, but you did it masterfully.

Seems to me Rafa is at the end of his rope. If he can't accept that he needs help, he is going to self-destruct. Que triste.

"Airing $hit-stained laundry in public" Good grief, what a mess to clean up! Don't they know we are running low on anti-bacterial cleansers?? Loved this , "Natalia relieves the shock and horror of this revelation with a war cry of ZORRA! and a resounding smack upside Perla’s head! WHOP!"

And thanks for explaining Kawasaki disease; I caught some of Gonzalo's description, but the mind wanders so I didn't catch all of it.

IMPERIO DE MENTIRAS

Ladies and Gents, a recapping team is forming for Imperio de Mentiras which starts on September 21st at 9PM. Currently, we have Urban Anthropologist and Jardinera654 on the team and Esther has volunteered to be a sub. If you are interested in being a part of this team, please let us know here in the comment section or you can e-mail me at rgvchick627@gmail.com.

Thanks! Looking forward to this one!!

DULCE

Di, we are worried about you since you have been so consistent with your recaps and we haven't heard from you since Saturday. Praying that all is well with you.

Here are some VERY BRIEF highlights of Monday's episode. Not in sequence and from memory...

María is totally shocked to see Amadeu, so much so that she thinks she is gone over the coo-coo’s nest. After she finally touches and hugs Amadeu, she faints…and is taken to the hospital. When she wakes, she thinks she is at loco hospital, but her employee assures her that she is not…and that Amadeu brought her there; he is really alive! Amadeu approaches and there are more hugs and “is it really yous.” They high-tail it out of there and rush to a hotel for some very sensual make-up for lost time. Once that ends, María tells Amadeu that they have a daughter, Amadeu is all excited…and later Amadeu, very hesitantly, tells María that he can’t go get his things and move in with her because he is married! María takes it quite well; after all he is a man…and things are different for men. (Seriously???)

Regis pawns his mother’s jewelry for papitas. When the mom finds out that her jewelry is missing, she accuses the maid of taking them. Enter Regis who convinces her that she can’t be making accusations without evidence and points out that the maid could sue her for false accusation. Since there has been this huge misunderstanding, the maid accepts that she must leave and find another job.

Regis takes Joss to dinner and she notes that he pays with cash. When she suggests that he give her a loan to pay for the studio, he fesses up and tells her he has no money…but she should ask her mommy. Joss scoffs at the idea since her mother is very frugal; her mom, after all, started as a street vendor and worked up to where she is now. Regis becomes quite interested and asks Joss to introduce her to her mom. What for? So he can convince her to give Joss the money? In return for what, Joss asks! But then Joss has a better idea…which we will probably find out tonight.

Fabiana meets with the priest in Sao Paolo; she needs to find a job at Vivitex Construction. Well, priest just happens to know the matriarch of one of the owners; so he calls her and she assures him that Agno can meet the young lady the next day.

Rael arrives at Sao Paola. He goes into the restroom at the bus station and locks himself in one of the stalls. He takes out a picture of María and then a HUGE gun!

Chime in with anything I forgot...

"DULCE AMBICION":

Di: I'm also worried about you as well. Hoping you're staying safe out there.

RGV Chick: Virginia the Brat will get more & more annoying each & everyday. I cannot wait for the Karma anvil to strike her in the end.

MEDICOS

I see and thank you, Urbanita and Rgv Chick Slogging away at the ole keyboard for the job. Hope to hang out later!

DULECE Yes, Di! Please check in, even if it's just to say "Hi."

Medicos. Wonderful witty recap as usual, Lila! "Low down" not "down low." Love it! I had expected the heart attack episode to turn out to be a simple PSA about not taking viagra-type medications without consulting a doctor--but it turned out to be way more complicated! It sure is taking a long time for Gabriel's tests to come back. Kawasaki syndrome has been getting more publicity lately because evidently Covid-19 creates a similar effect in some young children who are affected.

MEDICOS

Always amazed, LILA, at how you can take a dreary, disturbing episode and turn it into an absolute delight with your word power and snappy descriptions. Quite a talent, old buddy.

Here's just a sampling of what I enjoyed so much:

" I’ve nipped and tucked to keep this scratchy sweater from irritating us too much!"

"Puss Sucker thinks this is his golden ticket."

"war cry of ZORRA" (wasn't there a movie about some timid Southern gal who one day just had too much when a snotty young 'un zipped in and took her parking space at the grocery and she hit the car with hers and shouted KAWABUNGA (or something of that sort...or am I dreaming?)

"down low...low down" Young widow Perla and her über-consoling brother-in-law...just ugh

[cat fight] "only thing missing is the mud"

"Rafa calls him out and unshaken by the height differential, looks up at the Pus Sucker and...."

All great scenes and perfectly described, as was your portrayal of Cinthia's changing visual expressions as Tania persisted in sharing her concerns about Rafa's addiction

On the down side, I have to admit I'm just not interested in the story of Luis' son's disease. The whole family bores me. Sounds horrible to say, but sometimes side stories don't work. And this one does not for me.

On the plus side, normally Arturo annoys the heck out of me, but he was absolutely at his charming best when deflecting Ana's nosey fault-finding attempts and his smile was INCANDESCENT. Wow. Could almost be on Team Arturo after seeing that smile, but naaaah, Team David to the very end.

And Team LILA of course. Thanks amiga.

MEDICOS

Maybe one of these days El Ciego (from PASL) will be rushed into the ER needing emergency plastic surgery and Marco will jump in to show his expertise and botch it all up. Then, watch out! All his Daddy's money won't save him. Okay, since I'm wishful thinking, Rene, wanting to prove to his harridan - I mean, wife - that he's just as good a doctor as Gonzalo, will offer to assist Marco. Mireya, Rene's faithful puppy dog, will naturally be in the OR with them. See ya ... wouldn't wanna be ya!

OT/UNIVISION:

Judy: Since "Imperio de Mentiras" is taking the 8:00 PM CST time-slot next week, it's safe to say that the following shows will be moved up:

1.) "Rosa de Guadalupe" will replace "Vencer El Miedo" next Tuesday, September 22nd 6:00 PM CST.

2.) "Medicos" will move to the 7:00 PM CST time-slot.

3.) "Dulce Ambicion" stays put in the 9:00 PM CST time-slot.

MEDICOS

Sublime Lila.

I could spend my entire comment praising your work. Come to think of it, I will do just that. Outstanding.

"For a moment we are catapulted back to fourth grade as Regina tells Cinthia that David likes her and she likes him and that’s why she’s worried that David heard about the Kiss at the Kongress" had me smiling away. It was so childish and yet it was sweet.

"nipped and tucked to keep this scratchy sweater from irritating us too much!" was another gem as was "they’re at the hotel but it’s not skyrockets in flight, it’s gasping and grimacing and collapsing to the floor!". That said, the situation is terrible of course and being betrayed by your own sister is almost unforgivable. Especially as Samuel ain't all that.

"The only thing missing is the mud!" perfectly described the dueling sister duo.

Thank you for explaining Kawasaki disease. Also appreciated your info too SpanProf! I hope this story line comes to an end shortly. I fear Luis' ex (whom he can't forget) is going to get involved somehow. Ack.

I like Daniel's dedication is trying to get to the root of the illness. I liked Tania's trying to help Rafa and when shunned, trying another route to save his life. Rafa is hardheaded but he put Marco in his place "Rafa calls him out and, unshaken by the height differential"...so much can be forgiven.

Judy, I also liked Art's treatment of Ana. He really hasn't done anything too terrible and I would still like to see him with Pamela.

Thank you Lila, thank you!

Diana

MEDICO

PHEW! Finally, a break!

Gracias, Urban! Oh, yes! Lisette! Yah. This WAS our first cat fight. Natalia is older and with her outraged should've decked Perla with one blow!

I doubt it, but I'd love to see Regina deck Ana. What a vitter, vicious piece of work!

We have yet to see an accident victim who will need a plastic/reconstructive surgeon. What were thw writers waiting for?

This would definitely require Marco's "skills" which he may or may not have. The way he is trying to blackmail and bully his way into the Attending's good graces. He's a Loser!

Thank you, Rgv Chick! Yah, Rgv, Rafa is at the end of his rope AND digging a hole for himself. I think Cinthia will get to him, though. He really seems to care what she thinks. But, he has to want to do that for himself: we've already seen this lesson with Cecelia!

See above comment about Natalia decking fornicating little sister. This is so odious! Don't get me started!

O/T

I hope you are OK Di and we hear from you soon.

Thanks for the info on a IMPERIO DE MENTIRAS recapping team Rgv Chick.

Sending comfort and hope to everyone today, for good health and safety, especially for all those in the range of the fires and hurricanes.

SpanProf! YAAAY! Thank you! I didn't know Kawasaki disease was getting attention. Wow! I thought for sure it'd be meningitis. Oh well. There's a PSA built in here somewhere!

Judy!Judy!Judy! Muchisimas gracias!! Don't know about the KAWBUNGA thing, but it is ON between Natalia and Valeria! And wait til she gets her hands on Samuel! He's going to be muy grave all over again!

Oh, thanks, Judy! I forgot to mention that she explained her sleeping with her brother-in-law on her negligent husband's decision to die! What a piece of crap! Let me slap her, too!

Judy. We're all friends and we can be honest here. The Galvans are NOT exciting. Yah. Let's get him well, let him go home and rest and then play soccer. I thought they might drag Paulina back in for some excitement but....

Judy! Art DOES have a beautiful, brilliant smile O My gosh! They've got to cast him as a gal-winning galan! The smile lights up the screen!

We gotta find a bright spot on the screen somehow, Judy, with all the destruction that wasteth noonday around here! Gracias!

MEDICOS

HA! Anon, you should write fan fic!

Hi, Diana! Awww, thank you, Girl! You are TOO SWEET. Diana, ITA about Samuel. Lort, what a mess! I don't like to promote violence, but I would've mopped the floor with Valeria! The nerve to call her niece and expect her to keep it quiet! SHEESH!

Ah, Diana, I see you think Paulina might sidle her way back into the story. We'll see!

You are so welcome, Diana. I think I understand that we are not going to have a central love story, so let's get what we can out of this piece!

MEDICOS (Sort of)

Would love to see a tn with Rodolfo Salas (Arturo) playing Sebastian Rulli's younger brother or younger self. Or maybe even his son if the novela spans decades and they age Rulli a bit. They look so much alike!

Medicos

I am late to the party, but I wanted to thank you, Lila, for another rollicking recap .

The wife of the cheating husband played a bad owner in a recent telenovela ...Culpable . That brawl between the different sisters..yikes. bam ...wow ... pow . I felt bad for the poor daughter witnessing that.

Bar owner..not bad . Why would autocorrect change "bar" to " bad" ?

MEDICOS

You are so welcome, Susanlynn! That situation is a mess. Here is a mistake I made. I said:

I don't like to promote violence, but I would've mopped the floor with Valeria!

Should be:

I don't like to promote violence, but I would've mopped the floor with Perla!

Susanlynn, let's hope they throw us some crumbs tonight!

Médicos

Thank you so much Lila!! I haven’t watched the episode yet, but I didn’t want to miss out on your recap!

Regina talking to Cinthia is a moving-forward of sorts, now if she would only talk to David *sigh*

I am looking forward to seeing that cat fight though! Lol

DULCE

Thank you, Rgv Chick! I haven't finished the episode yet. I'm at the afterglow point where they're catching up with each other in the, um, non-flesh way! I also want to wait to see the whole thing before reading the recap but WOWZER!! I'm glad I'm not recapping this one: it would be X-rated! I'm blushing just thinking about it!

MEDICOS

Hey, UnOp! ITA, Regina needs to talk to David, for goodness sake! Haaaah! Well, there's always hope!

Thanks UnOp! That folk read this first is amazing! I edited some: please tell me what you think about this silly Perla sleeping with her old BIL!

DULCE

Rgv Chick! Thanks so much! A few things of note. I hate to mention this, because it disgusts me: Octavio trying to notch his belt with the 21 year old daughter of the Chauffeur, Eli...something or other. Octavio is a pig, but the young girl thinks he's attractive? YUCK! His wife must know what he's been up to all these years and pretty much busts them when Octavio has asked Eli to bring him some juice into the bedroom and they spring apart when the wife comes in. Later, at night, Octavio goes to Eli's room and starts trying to get his swerve on with her. She warns him to leave, that her father's room is right next door.

Also, Agno leaves home at night claiming to go to a business dinner but he seems to be patrolling the red light district. For "meat"? For drugs? For both? He's some kind of junkie. Reckon we'll find out!

Also, poor Gilda instinctively knows Amadeu has strayed. She tells her sister, Sylvia, that when you live with someone for so long, you have a child with them, you just know. And, yah, she's absolutely right. Even though hesitantly, I'm glad Amadeu told Maria he couldn't leave his wife.

Man. These people don't waste time. I think I'm hooked!

DULCE

Lila, thanks for adding those scenes. I think I blocked out the Octavio/Eli scene. Ewww, just ewwww! And she looked so sweet and innocent!

Agno cruising in the red light district....gosh “meat” was what I was expecting him to pick up. more ewwww!

I feel for Gilda too; Though Amadeu is set on staying with her, he really is elsewhere...in mind and in heart.

DULCE

You're welcome, Rgv Chick! I plan to watch this and discuss it with anyone watching. Recapping is not easy; I certainly don't have to tell you and our faithful recapping team that! I hope we can discuss this one whether there are formal recaps or not. It is an engaging, fast-paced and complex story.

After Amadeu's and Maria's passionate reunion, I see why they played the song, "Jolene." WOW

MÉDICOS #45, 9-15-20

Hola, Peeps! Again, and with the same fervor, I pray for the safety and resilience of everyone suffering from the ravages of fire and water. This is seriously a double catastrophe on the west and gulf coasts! As always, I welcome you to correct, augment, emphasize or criticize any aspect of our story as we re-veiw last night’s action through my summary. Vamanos!

Rafael
We have a reprise of the Tania’s finally getting Cinthia to listen to her. Cinthia asks further questions to be sure Tania is sure about Rafa’s career-and life-threatening problem! Why didn’t Tania tell her before! “I tried to tell you at the Congress, but you wouldn’t let me! I know you can help him!” Cinthia asks why? “Because when you distance yourself from him, he gets worse.” Cinthia thanks Tania who looks away with a combination of relief and exasperation. [To her credit and despite her brief dalliance with Rafa and having become an un-witting rival for his affections, Tania never lost respect for Cinthia or Rafa! Bien hecho, Tania!] Let’s pick up with my Rafa later.

Gabriel
The diagnosis is confirmed through Luis’s and Gonzalo’s abundant fund of knowledge, from rookie Daniel’s tireless research and the objective truth of the lab results: Kawasaki’s disease. It is rare in a child Gabriel’s age but it can be treated! It is decided to start him on IV gamma globulin (IVIG) [*Research has shown IVIG can reduce fever and the risk of heart problems. The immunoglobulin used to treat Kawasaki disease is called gamma globulin. After [the] child is given IVIG, their symptoms should improve within 36 hours.] BUT, a specialist needs to be called in as well. [Let’s pat ourselves on the back, Peeps, as having called this one!] Turns out Paulina IS a specialist in KD!. Regina and Daniel insist that Luis call Paulina after having confessed to them that he had a near-marriage destroying affair with her. Luis seems relieved when she at first doesn’t answer and the second time it goes to voice mail. Ni modo! Regina marches off to enlists Gonzalo’s help. Yes! He knows someone but doesn’t name them! [What do y’all think?] Luis shares the news with a relieved Susana and big boy Gabriel, whose trust in his Father’s ability to cure him never wavered! Luis tells Gabriel that his fatigue and falling grades were due to this illness, and NOT his fault! He asks Gabe to forgive him for not recognizing this earlier and for being so hard and strict on him. He also asks Susana to forgive him. Susana and Gabriel tell Luis he has nothing to be forgiven: he is the best Husband, Father and Doctor there is and he has ALWAYS done whatever he could to take care of their every need! [The episode actually ends on the Galvan family.]

Of all the men in the world, I couldn’t find anyone but my ED-suffering old BIL to screw
Natalia finally gets to see Samuel. The old dolt is waking up with a dopey smile on his face calling out “Perla! Perla!” Long story short: Natalia ties in to him about his sordid, cynical affair with her little sister. Well, turns out she deserves it because she’s a controlling, mean old shrew that has sickened Samuel all his life, driving him into the arms and bed of her little sister and neither he nor Perla can stand it anymore! Natalie grills his a$$, siccing his own heart on him and he nearly dies again! A Nurse drags Natalia out of the room where Regina, David and Luis, arms folded, inform her she is not to visit until he’s out of ICU and back on a (moderate care) floor. That includes Valeria and, of course, Perla. Natalie tells Valeria her Dad is worse and admits they argued. Valeria is shocked, declares her Mom is a self-centered egoist and “If anything happens to Dad, it’s all your fault and I’ll NEVER forgive you!” Valeria angrily turns her back on an anguished, but unrepentant Natalia. Nuff said.

Attack of the Pus-Sucking Rat!
]UUUUUUF! Let’s get this over with! Peeps, at any point during this segment, feel free to look away from the screen and do the nasal deep breath/explosive expulsion exercise we did back on Friday. Follow it up with a deep nasal breath expelled through the mouth the second time.] Marco finally gets his Dad’s approval as he whines to Esteban in the evening about the absolute disaster unfolding in the Instituto! Power and air-conditioning outages, Doctors running amok doing whatever the hell they want to do; there’s even a Dr. that almost killed a patient because he was high on drugs! Marco lays all this at Gonzalo’s doorstep. Esteban confirms that sonny boy has finally learned his lesson: take advantage of whatever situation he finds himself in and leverage it to work for him! Esteban invites Marco to come with him to talk to Montesinos. Marco shares that he is convinced that the Administrative Director (Rene) is the man to help him advance his career! Esteban and Marco toast to his depravity! The next morning Esteban and Marco meet Montesinos at the club and outline, to Montesiino’s shocked ears, the above charges and drive home to Montesinos that all his hard work to make the Instituto the premiere medical facility in the country are being destroyed by the incompetence and negligence of Gonzalo and his “doctors!” One “doctor” even nearly killed a patient by giving him penicillin when it was documented that the patient was allergic to it! Esteban seems to think his son is truthful and helps Marco emphasize these points. Montesinos thanks them, especially Marco, and will talk to Gonzalo that very morning! Marco scurries away, as rats do, assured that his goal is in sight!

Rafa’s saga is tied up with PSR’s attack. The following events take place the next morning at the same time as some of the upcoming Rafa events. PSR goes in to talk to Rene after Miryea leaves Rene’s office. Miryea had been complaining about the Doctors “being all over Luis’ son’s case” as if it were the most important thing in the world! They end up sucking face which PSR picks up on immediately as Miryea leaves. PSR tells Rene about Rafa. ESO! Now THIS is the kind of information Rene wants. PSR asks if this means he can finally get to do surgery: He has kept up his word; he hopes Rene will keep his. Rene pats him on the face like the pet rat he is and assures him he always keeps his word and lets PSR out the door. Rene goes to talk to Ana, asks about the OPC patient that Rafa attended and ended up in the ER. He presents Rafa’s drug use as a suspicion based on Nurse reports of his apparent impairment. Rene is going to demand a drug test and if it’s positive, Rafa is out of there! This idea enchants Ana! There is an earlier scene of her being snippy with Art about the need to attend to OPC patients regardless of what’s going on in the ER. If not for Art’s brilliant but dismissive smile, this would be a FF>>moment. Ya, basta!

The Salvation of Rafael!
[It is evening] After talking to Tania, Cinthia finally reaches Rafa on the phone and goes right over to his home. He answers the door; she enters; Rafa tries his old line: “I knew this day would come.” Cinthia ignores him and gets right to the point: “Are you taking controlled substances?” No. “What are you messing with?” “Nothing.” Cinthia walks up close to Rafa, who looks away. “What happened today was not a mistake.” Rafa recites his line that he only takes something to sleep at times, or to stay alert, but he’s got it under control. Cinthia tells him she is there because he is important to her and she is worried about him. Rafa says he was just distracted today, that’s all. “Okay, if you’re going to keep lying to my face, I’m outta here! Get some rest!” and she heads to the door. Rafa calls her name; Cinthia whips around to face him. “Yes, I have…I have a problem.” Cinthia runs to embrace him and they hold each other tightly, relief flowing through them both. They finally break the embrace; Cinthia sits across from Rafa and holds his hands. “What’s wrong,” she gently asks. “Well, all this started in a way I thought I could control; then I discovered that I needed the medicines to be 100 percent.” “Rafa, you don’t need to take anything, you are excellent in your work.” Rafa looks down and away. “No, no, no, I shouldn’t be living like this now.” He clasps his face in his hands, covering his eyes. His defenses begin to break down as he drops his head further, rubbing his neck. Cinthia softly calls, “Eh, eh, eh” and pulls his hair from his face as he looks at her again asking why he says that. “Because I’m seeing who I really am…that this (my life) is a disaster.” “Nobody is perfect,” Cinthia says. “You are,” he says. Now Cinthia looks within. “I’m only someone who is hurting, but because of that pain, I understand what you are going through. You were right when you told me I won’t open my heart. I won’t do it because it’s very fragile and I’m not as strong as…as I pretend to be. But Rafa, seeing you like this really hurts me.” Cinthia’s face is flushed with emotion and tears begin to brim in her own eyes. “I want you to know that you are not alone. I’m going to help you get through this.” Rafa looks at Cinthia, absorbs her heartfelt concern and feels he has finally faced the truth and found a refuge. Rafa inhales raggedly and exhales in a long sob; he rises and falls into Cinthia’s arms, both landing softly on the sofa. She cradles him, his head against her chest, as he shakes and deeply weeps.

Morning finds Rafa and Cinthia awakening on his sofa, still holding each other. Rafa looks at her and nuzzles her face a bit, then closes his eyes. Cinthia then looks up at him. They stir, she rises and he looks at her. “How delicious to wake up like this,” he sighs, smiling. “I never thought that our first night together would be like this.” Nearly laughing, she’s asks why he always has to ruin everything! “Well, just a short time ago you would never have thought you would spend a night with me, am I right?” “Oh, stop playing!” “Thank you for coming, really.” “I want you to be well.” They share a long, bonding gaze. As they arrive at the hospital, Rafa thanks Cinthia again. “The most important thing is to recognize that you have a problem, but I’m sure you can overcome it.” Rafa asks how she can be so sure. She says because when he wants something he insists and persists. He says he wishes that had worked for him with her. “You succeeded in becoming very important to me!” “Is that all?” “I want you to be well.” Rafa says, “I think I have already told you, but you are truly incredible, much more than you think.” Cinthia says she’s off to the ER; he’s going to talk to Gonzalo. She wishes him luck, that it go well and asks him to tell her how it turns out. “Cinthia, thank you; thank you for saving me, truly.” “That’s why we’re here, right.”

MÉDICOS #45, 9-15-20 END

Rafa meets with Gonzalo and tells him the whole story of how the addiction started and swears that he is not taking street drugs, but controlled substances. He confesses that he was under the influence when he failed to ask a patient about a documented allergic reaction and the consequences. Gonzalo listens, explodes a couple of times, but reigns himself in, remaining attentive to Rafa. He asks why Rafa did not ask for help and assures Rafa of the value of his skills as a Doctor, referring to him as “son” even as he necessarily lowers the boom: Rafa MUST seek treatment for his addiction; from this moment he will not attend any patient; he will not practice medicine in this or any other hospital until he has undergone treatment in an addiction center! Rafa vows he will do what he has to confront and overcome his problem. Gonzalo emphasizes that Rafa cannot return to the Instituto until he is completely clean. Whether he returns to the Instituto or not will depend on the recommendation of the treating facility and is not assured. A situation like this cannot be tolerated!

Excellent Lila.

"Rafa looks at Cinthia, absorbs her heartfelt concern and feels he has finally faced the truth and found a refuge. Rafa inhales raggedly and exhales in a long sob; he rises and falls into Cinthia’s arms, both landing softly on the sofa. She cradles him, his head against her chest, as he shakes and deeply weeps" was picture perfect and could melt the coldest heart.

"[To her credit and despite her brief dalliance with Rafa and having become an un-witting rival for his affections, Tania never lost respect for Cinthia or Rafa! Bien hecho, Tania!]". Tania is the unsung hero here. Beautiful and talented albeit a bit manipulative, she is a friend when needed. Rafa should be grateful.

“Of all the men in the world, I couldn’t find anyone but my ED-suffering old BIL to screw” had me smiling despite this serious, sordid mess. Rather than showing the slightest scintilla of sympathy, Samuel spewed serious vitrol for his wife. Shrew she may be and silent she should have been, but I could not help but feel for her.

And this, surely the kiss of death: "Susana and Gabriel tell Luis he has nothing to be forgiven: he is the best Husband, Father and Doctor there is and he has ALWAYS done whatever he could to take care of their every need!" Lets see how this harmonious family deals with Paulina's reappearance.

Daniel is another hero here. And I am shamefacedly admitting I was too harsh on his parents who while may be just the slightest tad annoying, are wonderful and loving parents.

“Esteban and Marco toast to his depravity!” Oh, Braulio, err, Esteban, I am beyond disappointed. No wonder your spawn turned out so badly.

"Rene is going to demand a drug test and if it’s positive, Rafa is out of there! This idea enchants Ana". More unbidden bile.

I was happy Rafa told Gonzalo the truth before rats Rene and Marco could. There is no doubt Cinthia was the catalyst and she was the only drug he needed to try and get clean.

Thank you thank you Lila!

Diana

Medicos. Wonderful recap, Lila! Yep, I too expect that the Kawasaki expert Gonzalo knows is Paulina. And Marco just keeps getting creepier and creepier! That was an incredibly wonderful description of the Cinthia/Rafa interaction, and what a relief that Rafa, like Diego, turned himself in before Rene can take advantage of his unprofessional actions!

Written with great humor and great sensitivity LILA. Truly your signature style.

Loved this:

Of all the men in the world, I couldn’t find anyone but my ED-suffering old BIL to screw
Natalia finally gets to see Samuel. The old dolt is waking up with a dopey smile on his face calling out “Perla! Perla!”

Goodness, what a contrast between the two infidelities in our story. We didn't hear the original confession between Luis and Susana, but I doubt that he blamed her for his straying. Samuel, on the other hand, is reacting in the classic style of the victimizer--"See what you made me do!!!!" We're all self-protective. He thinks of himself as a good guy. So if he's done something crappy, like nailing his widowed sister-in-law, why IT MUST BE HIS WIFE'S FAULT. Couldn't possibly be his. He's a good guy.

Well, we'll have to keep our fingers crossed for all these troubled peope.

And your recounting of the sweet bonding between Cinthia and Rafa was exquisite. Even more tender than the scene itself.

Rafa looks down and away.

Some powerful writing there, amiga mia. I love how you put your heart and soul into each and every recap. Quite a feat.

On the shallow side, we finally got a shot of Rafa's apartment that looked rather nice. His kitchen is a dump; but the living room with those HUGE picture windows was actually quite impressive. So hopefully, that's symbolic of a positive turnaround in his life. With or without a job. With or without Cinthia.

Anyway, you did the scene justice and then some. Marco and Mireya I'll leave in the trash can of history where they belong.

Thanks sweet lady. Another home run with the bases loaded.

Thank you so much, Diana!

Thank you for this:

Rather than showing the slightest scintilla of sympathy, Samuel spewed serious vitrol for his wife. Shrew she may be and silent she should have been, but I could not help but feel for her.

I have nothing but contempt for Samuel and Perla. I don't care how "controlling" she may be; Samuel is a dawg and Perla is a loose-legged dipstick! So there!

Oh, gosh! Diana! That loving proclamation by Susana and Gabriel COULD be the kiss of death! I just know Paulina will be the specialist Gonzalo was thinking of!

Daniel is another hero here. And I am shamefacedly admitting I was too harsh on his parents who while may be just the slightest tad annoying, are wonderful and loving parents. Let me come sit with you at the shamefaced table, Diana!

Diana, I am so glad my Rafa not only got saved but came clean with Gonzalo immediately as well!

There is no doubt Cinthia was the catalyst and she was the only drug he needed to try and get clean.

That is for sure. It was so touching how it really hit home to Cinthia how much she meant to Rafa when Tania told her that whenever she (Cinthia) distanced herself from Rafa, his drugging got worse!

It may not be lustful sofa-moving, but this was Love, and that's good enough for me!

SpanProf! Yep, you were one of them that saw this coming with Paulina! Do you think Luis will fall?

ITA that Daniel and now Rafa deprived Rene and Marco of the chance to humiliate them! YAAAAY!! Thank you, SpanProf!

JudyB! Hola y gracias! You nailed the reason why I can't stand Samuel:

Samuel, on the other hand, is reacting in the classic style of the victimizer--"See what you made me do!!!!" We're all self-protective. He thinks of himself as a good guy. So if he's done something crappy, like nailing his widowed sister-in-law, why IT MUST BE HIS WIFE'S FAULT. Couldn't possibly be his. He's a good guy.

Give me a frickin' break! I'm sorry, but I was cheering when Natalia was diggin' his old cheating arse out! Scumbag!

Aw, JudyB, thank you for appreciating the Rafa and Cinthia scene. He has covered up his pain with playboy swagger for so long but we knew he was broken and for the first time he got to let down, face the truth and get some help. I loved it and am so happy for him!

Thank you so much, JudyB. These stories are an escape and all of your appreciation, a balm.

And, er, yeah. I was thinking the same thing about that wall of windows! That's great: the sunlight and flora will be good for his spirits!

Marco and Mireya I'll leave in the trash can of history where they belong. Let's call the garbage truck and throw Rene, Esteban and Ana in there, too!

You are so welcome, Amiga!!

Late to the party again .

Loved the snappy recap, Lila, as always. You are a peach for giving us a great read every day . Each recap that you provide is my daily treat. And during these bleak days, any treat must be savored and appreciated. Thank you.

I, too, loved the scene of Rafa finally reaching bottom and unburdening himself to Cinthia. I loved the wall of Windows . My favorite spot is next to my big, bow living room window , so I would love an entire wall of Windows .

Can't wait to see what happens tonight.

Another great job, Lila.

Natalia is a shrew. Not that this is a reason by itself for adultery but adultery with a wife's sister is particularly egregious. Samuel was playing with fire and he got burned, so now the good docs need to make sure he heals before Natalia burns his butt again in divorce court. My prognosis for this marriage is not good.

I totally agree with Diana about the Galvan family situation. There are going to be fireworks of all kinds and none will be pretty chrysanthemums.

Hi, Susanlynn! Thank you! I was so happy for Rafa! Poor thing has been through the wringer and it was very clear that he was just a-pining for Cinthia! Unlike poor Cecelia, he recognized he had a problem and is going to get help. I hope they don't write him out now that he has to leave the Instituto though it might be hard to give him an engaging role apart from the hub of the drama.

Let's see what Montesinos does when he discovers the "drugged doctor" thing is already taken care of!

Thanks, Urban! We posted at the same time! Could you tell I've been having fun with the Samuel/Natalia/Perla thing! What a jerk! I wonder how long they're going to keep this saga around. Our last very troubled family, Sandra, Victor and Mauricio, haven't been mentioned again and, I guess, are home healing.

Ok. Here you on the Galvans! If Paulina is the specialist, we'll see how tolerant Susana will be! Luis could let Daniel be the go between and only talk with Paulina when Susana is present....oh, wait, Luis works at the hospital. Ok, yah, fireworks for sure!

Lila, a quick "thank you!" before the next epi starts. I don't know how you craft these fabulous recaps night after night, but I'm glad you do. This cracked me up: Of all the men in the world, I couldn’t find anyone but my ED-suffering old BIL to screw

Yay, Rafa finally comes clean, now he needs to get clean. Gotta admit I wouldn't want him doing my anesthesia right now. Wondering how he'll prove he can be trusted again.

Goodie, Rafa confessing to Gonzalo should spoil Marco and Rene's plan. I love that Gonzalo has managed to stay one step ahead of Rene so far.

Médicos

You are so welcome, Niecie and thank YOU for reading and commenting! Yes, so far Rene and Marco are not having their way. I hope that the gullible Montesinos will soon think more deeply about these charges and compare it with the Dr. Gonzalo Olmedo he claims to know!

Wonder if David and Regina will get any face time tonight and will the writers forget that Regina has put Art in the friend zone!

MÉDICOS

Extremely late to this party but had get a thank you in, Lila. After a long day, it was a joy to read your recap and all the comments.

Like everyone, I was so happy that Rafa came clean. I could almost hear everyone at the Rafa table cheering. Cinthia going to his rescue and even spending the night with him was my favorite scene. A bit hard to believe that he made that quick turn around, but maybe all he needed was some TLC from the one person he truly has feelings for.

Gracias, Rgv Chick! Thank YOU for stopping by, whatever the time! Rafa's salvation was very satisfying, though, I know it's not over!

Well, off to make a quick summary of last night! See ya!

Hola, Peeps! Hope everyone is safe and continued prayers, frankly, for everyone all over the world suffering from natural and manmade disasters! If we are here, watching a novela and discussing it online, we are indeed blessed! This is going to be a quickie! Three dimensional stuff piling up! Peeps, you know the drill: chime in at will!

Gonzalo continues with Rafa, making a call to a colleague, Dr. Nicolini, a Psychiatrist who specializes in addictions, sleep disturbances and behavioral disorders. The next days will be challenging, but Rafa should tackle it in his own unique way. After the therapy is over, Dr. Nicolini alone will let Gonzalo know whether Rafa is clean; if he is fine, then Gonzalo will accept him back. Rafa thanks Gonzalo who calls him back as he leaves. “Rafa, your work and your friends will be here waiting for you. Everything depends on you.” Rafa agrees, and leaves.

Regina and David talk about their own halting, bumpy road to love under the guise of discussing the nasty Samuel/Natalia/Perla situation. Both are rigidly professional. Regina understands the wife’s rage: a husband cheating with the wife’s own sister is very strong! David agrees but feels it’s best to know the truth, no matter how hard. Regina replies that what is so painful is realization of having put all one’s hope in someone who doesn’t care anything about you. David says that could also mean that one had placed expectations and hope in the wrong person. Regina makes it personal saying that is what happened between her and Sergio and other people, and that it’s very difficult. Regina and David face each other and very subtly, the professional veneer begins to peel away. David says that the more important the person is to you, the more painful the betrayal. Regina agrees. David continues that the good in the whole thing is that one lives knowing the truth, free of deception. He looks away as he says this, as if he’s looking at something that is far away and fading. “It’s much better not to have hope in something that doesn’t exist, don’t you agree,” he says, looking back at Regina in time for her to do a signature neck crank. “David, are you saying this for some special reason?” “Yes, and I think you know why?” Regina replies, “Yes, I know why too and I want to talk to you about everything that happened Vallarta.” David takes a big breath and looks away as Art strides in bidding everybody a good morning. Art asks for and receives an update on Gabriel and Samuel when he acknowledges he has interrupted a conversation between Regina and David. Regina tells Art she will catch up with him later to discuss those patients. She turns back to David but then is interrupted by Rene, demanding to know where Dr. Calderon is! [Short shrift to the baddies.] Regina doesn’t know where he is. Rene demands to be told when Rafa arrives.

MÉDICOS #46, 9-16-20

Rafa goes in to see Cesar, the patient he injured in the OPC. Cesar wants to know why he was given penicillin when the chart clearly stated he was allergic to it. Rafa comes clean to Cesar, telling him he made a mistake. The good thing is that he is fine; he is out of danger and will suffer no long term effects from his error but that this does not justify what he did. Rafa tells Cesar that if he wants to report him, he is totally within his right to do so and gives him his cell phone if he has any future needs or wants to be referred to another Doctor. Rene leaves the ER and heads to Gonzalo’s office, thinking he’s dropping a bombshell about Rafa. He knows Rafa is abusing drugs and demands he take a blood test! Gonzalo asks how is he sure it is Rafa and who told him? Ana told him about the near-fatal mistake in the OPC. Mistake? Gonzalo thought Rene said the issue a drug-impaired physician? There’s a big difference between the two! Gonzalo says he has talked to Rafa and given him some days off; when he returns he can run all the tests he wants! He asks Rene to leave so he can get back to work. Rene offers to “help”. Gonzalo declines, citing the disaster that recently unfolded because he didn’t take care of things himself! Rene leaves; we can almost hear him say, “Curses! Foiled again!” Gonzalo exhales and flings down his pen in frustration after Rene’s exit. [I am somewhat surprised Gonzalo was not upfront about Rafa’s situation, but knowing how Rene lies and twists the truth, I understand why he covered for Rafa. What do y’all think?]

Gabriel begins the infusion of the IV gamma globulin (IVIG). Luis promises to spend time at home with Gabriel and Susana after he is discharged and, when he’s up to it, they’ll take a family vacation to the beach! AWESOME!!!! In a brief scene later, Daniel proudly shares his role in identifying Gabriel’s illness: symptom surveillance, attention to lab results and diligent research! Tania and Pam congratulate him. Marco looks on in the background, smirking. These are all things he would know nothing about!

Rafa goes into the common room and asks for the attention of Regina, David, Daniel and Cinthia. All are attentive as he describes his drug problem; that he has met with Gonzalo and his upcoming absence while he seeks help. The last thing he wanted was to adversely affect their work and he swears he will do everything in his power to overcome his problem and return. Everyone is moved, David and Daniel are somewhat stunned, and Cinthia’s pain is evident. Regina tells him he is brave; Daniel pledges his support for whatever Rafa needs. Rafa thanks them and tells them that hearing they support him is so important. Regina tells Rafa to be strong; he asks her to forgive him for how he harmed the patient. Regina rises and goes to Rafa and embraces him briefly, his head on her shoulder. She looks at him with a firm earnestness, “An addiction is a sign of something much deeper; I hope in these days you come to realize what’s at the base of your problem and that you totally uproot it.” David stands up and calls to him. “Rafa, you are an excellent Doctor and you don’t need anything to do your work well.” Cinthia speaks up that Rafa is making the best decision. Regina looks at the friends gathered and sweeps her finger, indicating them all. “We will always be here like this; for you.” “Gracias. Gracias a todos.” Rafa sighs, expelling the tension as one more weight is lifted. During this touching scene we have been serenaded by a plaintive, almost haunting violin or viola solo. A bit later in the common room Regina, David and Daniel talk about Rafa which serves as PSA on drug addiction, the need to admit the problem and get help as well as the value of a personal support system. Daniel feels responsible because of the fight he and Rafa had. Regina and Daniel reassure him he is not to blame.

Cinthia walks with Rafa as he leaves the Instituto. He tells Cinthia to take good care of his patients. She will, don’t worry. What will she do without him, he asks? Work in peace? Cinthia answers. They laugh. “You’re going to miss me a little. Thank you for being here for me, truly.” “Always, whatever you need.” They walk a few paces. “Really, my days won’t be the same without you.” Rafa stops and turns to face Cinthia. “You know what; that is third most beautiful thing you have ever said to me since I’ve known you.” His head is tilted ever so slightly as if to burrow his gaze more deeply into her own and impress his sincerity upon her. “I’m going to carry that with me, to remind me of you.” He looks at Cinthia another long moment and then leans down and kisses her on her cheek. He straightens up, tells her “gracias” and walks away. Cinthia jumps to grab his arm, calling him back, “Rafa!” He looks at her expectantly, waiting for her to speak. “Take this with you, as well,” Cinthia says, tipping up and pulling him into a long, probing, the-world-has-gone-away-kiss! “Whoa! That was much more incredible than I could have ever imagined! This means, what?” “It means I want you to remember me while you’re far away.” “More? Because I already think of you constantly, every day! Okay, knowing that you care about me and worry about me is going to help me so much.” “I want you to go back to being the same Rafa as always,” Cinthia says, looking up at him with unguarded affection. “And so I will.” “And I will be here waiting for you.” Rafa looks wistfully back at the hospital. “This place brought out the best in me; and the worst in me.” Cinthia says, “A hospital changes the life of every person who enters it; whether it’s for an illness or a loved one who is sick; to give birth; for whatever reason. But we, as Doctors, come here every day and cling to this place so fiercely because we have a mission to help others and this is your mission, right?” Rafa lets it sink in. “Thank you. We’ll see each other. Dr. Guerrero.” Both smile as if they are already on a new horizon. Rafa casts one more look back at Cinthia as he walks away, his back pack slung over his right shoulder. Cinthia looks after him and breathes a sigh of bittersweet relief, her reddened eyes welling and then dripping tears.

Tania catches up with Cinthia to get an update on Rafa. She tells her Rafa is doing badly but will be taking some time off to get some help; it is a process and he will prevail, little by little. Cinthia calls Tania back as she is about to leave and tells her that thanks to her, Rafa accepted help. Tania replies that she knew that Cinthia was the only one who could help him. They smile and mend their rift with a firm handshake. Later, Regina debriefs about Rafa with Gonzalo; he tells her of his referral of Rafa for treatment. They discuss drug dependency and their hope and expectation that Rafa will recover and continue to do the fine work he always has done. Daniel and Cinthia also talk about Rafa. He thanks her for talking to Rafa. Cinthia tells Daniel she realizes Tania is not a bad person as she thought. She shares that it was Tania who told her about Rafa’s problem as she caught him with the drugs. She was wrong; she judged Tania too quickly. Daniel looks pensive.

Okay, remember me saying this was a quickie? I didn’t forget.

Ana is actually empathic with a forty-five year old woman surprised at her symptoms indicating early menopause: hot flashes; behavior and mood swings; decrease in libido and discomfort with intercourse among them. In this PSA, the wonders of hormonal therapy are touted as the woman is prescribed an estrogen patch and progesterone.

The Funk Family is too odious for details. Valeria blames both her Mother and Perla for the affair and Samuel’s current health crisis. Perla begs Valeria to let her see Samuel. Frankly, I don’t care. This is so personally disgusting; I am not even going to pretend. Comment if you wish. Elena finds out about their financial trouble though I don’t think she realizes the danger and threat they face from the predatory loan shark.

Ana comes for Regina AGAIN. For once, Regina bests Ana, accurately tagging her as always gunning for her, first about David, now about Rafa. Ana admits that she thinks Regina has things she doesn’t deserve: like being chief of the ER just because Gonzalo likes her and the best Doctors, like David. Regina tells her she is right about ONE thing, and that is “WE are the BEST DOCTORS and I AM CHIEF of this area and I’m very busy and don’t have time or energy to listen to you! If you’ve got a problem with Rafa, go talk to him and LEAVE ME IN PEACE!” Regina leaves Ana with her bitter mouth hanging open which she uses immediately to whine and complain to David that Regina is strangely mean and disrespectful to her! All she wants to do is work well with Regina! David listens for a few moments and then tells her he knows them both and finds it hard to believe Regina has it out for her. His advice? “Improve your relationship with Regina because you’re going to see her every day. Excuse me; I have patients to attend to!”

The Castillos have dinner with the Guerreros. Rene clarifies that he is the Administrative Director, not Director of the Instituto. Constanza lies that Rene does all the work, however. Sr. Guerrero asks Rene if he knows Dr. Cinthia Guerrero; Rene says yes. Sr. G says that she is his Daughter and he is very interested in what goes on in her place of work. Rene responds with stunned silence.

Later in the afternoon, after all the drama of the salvation of Rafa, Gonzalo presents Gabriel’s salvation – or damnation -- to the Galvans: the Specialist in Kawasaki’s Disease: Dr. Paulina Serrano. We can hear the collective bulging of eyes and dropping of jaws of Paulina, Luis and Susana!!! RUH ROH!!!

Lila, Lila, Lila! What a wonderful treat you give us each day! I hang on every word you write, thank you for sharing your ingenuous talent with us.

re: David" "as if he’s looking at something that is far away and fading" Dontcha just love this guy's expressions. He's not only a hunk, he exudes passion and sensitivity, but tries to hide it; and his impatience gets in the way.

re Regina: "signature neck crank" This is really getting to me! Stop it! For those of you who have seen Livia in other TNs, is this a Regina thing or a Livia thing?

"Rene leaves; we can almost hear him say, “Curses! Foiled again!”" Na-na-na-boo-boo! You can't spread your doo-doo!! LOL

"Ana is actually empathic with a forty-five year old woman surprised at her symptoms indicating early menopause" Could she be trying some of Rafa's drugs? Totally out of character and Ana actually smiled!!

"The Funk Family is too odious for details." ...and for discussion (at least by me) FFW->->

I couldn't wait to see how you would write this up, Lila! MUY EXCELENTE!!"“Take this with you, as well,” Cinthia says, tipping up and pulling him into a long, probing, the-world-has-gone-away-kiss! “Whoa! That was much more incredible than I could have ever imagined!"...Rafa casts one more look back at Cinthia as he walks away, his back pack slung over his right shoulder. Cinthia looks after him and breathes a sigh of bittersweet relief, her reddened eyes welling and then dripping tears." Ahhh, sweet love! With these two, it came slowly, but that chemistry is explosive!!

When is Ana gonna get the message that David is NOT into her?? Loved the way he remained cool and unmoved by her asinine nagging.

Last but not least... " We can hear the collective bulging of eyes and dropping of jaws of Paulina, Luis and Susana!!! RUH ROH!!!" Kuddos to the one(s) who predicted this!! Holy crappaneenee!!

Lila, the dialog but more importantly, your beautiful writing was expressed beautifully. I am getting emotionally invested in this, mostly because of your ability to see and understand the workings of the human heart and the gamut of emotions to be felt and processed.

Another simply outstanding summary.

“His head is tilted ever so slightly as if to burrow his gaze more deeply into her own and impress his sincerity upon her” was just lovely.

I was moved by the Rafa and Cin parting “Cinthia looks after him and breathes a sigh of bittersweet relief, her reddened eyes welling and then dripping tears ”which tugged at my heartstrings. I was also impressed by the support and solidarity shown by Rafa’s colleagues: “Everyone is moved, David and Daniel are somewhat stunned, and Cinthia’s pain is evident” conveyed this perfectly.

I was also happy Cinthia not only realized Tania’s intentions were noble, but that she admitted she had misjudged her.

“Regina and David face each other and very subtly, the professional veneer begins to peel away” would have been THE highlight except for Rafa’s departure.

“Curses! Foiled again!” and wasn’t it wonderful! All that was missing was the mustache twirling!!

“[I am somewhat surprised Gonzalo was not upfront about Rafa’s situation, but knowing how Rene lies and twists the truth, I understand why he covered for Rafa. What do y’all think?]” Well of course I didn’t understand most of that conversation so it was only after reading your summary did I understand! Yes, that half truth is surprising. I think Rafa is really getting under Gonzalo’s skin. Unfortunately, he is causing a rash that won’t be calmed until he is removed. Fired.

“The Funk Family is too odious for details” had me smiling. Yes, a sordid mess best left to itself.

Rgv Chick, I was shocked to see a real smile from Ana! Was this a one time event or could another be somewhere down the line?? :)

Is the loan shark demanding payment from Daniel’s father early or is already due? Did his mother understand what has happened?

“Gonzalo presents Gabriel’s salvation – or damnation -- to the Galvans: the Specialist in Kawasaki’s Disease: Dr. Paulina Serrano”. And there you have it. But we knew it all along, didn’t we???

Lila, just marvelous. Thank you, thank you!

Medicos.

I didn't want to be late to the party today.

Dear Lila, You have a wonderful way with words . I thank you so much for the distraction your lovely recaps provide for me , especially today . A dear friend of Hub' s and mine is undergoing triple bypass surgery today at noon, so I am seeking any distraction I can find As I hold him and his family in my thoughts and prayers . Life is a fragile thing.

As this story unfolds, we are, swept along on the waves of drama as we witness the eternal struggle of good vs evil which is the heart of telenovelas and in fact, real life. Onward to fight the good fight.

Rgv Chick! Awwww, thank you, HON! Y'alls comments are food to my soul!

Dontcha just love this guy's expressions. He's not only a hunk, he exudes passion and sensitivity, but tries to hide it; and his impatience gets in the way.

Yes, I do! I am unabashedly a David FAN GIRL!!!!

Oh, does Livia crank her neck, too? I did MIVAC but don't remember. HA! That's funny!

Na-na-na-boo-boo! You can't spread your doo-doo!! LOL

Now, if that isn't sidebar-worthy!!!

Rgv! Rafa and Cinthia are the unexpected central love story for me! I LOVES me some Rafa! I'm sorry, he's not a hunk per se, but I think he is just beautiful and my lort, does he know how to get under a woman's skin. The way he weilds those eyes, his posture and just a turn of his head! Aaaahhh! I know he never knew, and we didn't know, that the way he would win Cinthia's love and attention was by breaking down and baring his broken soul. Well, she did tell him once that he would have a chance with her if he dropped his "galan" act. Yep, she was right.

And poor Luis. He is putty in Pulsating Paulina's hands! Whoo boy!

Thank you, Rgv Chick!

Oh, no! Stop it! This is making me cry!

I am getting emotionally invested in this, mostly because of your ability to see and understand the workings of the human heart and the gamut of emotions to be felt and processed.

Gracias, Diana!

YAAAY! For Cinthia's recognizing Tania's good heart and intentions and making up with her!! Cinthia WAS in the wrong!

Thank you for this on Rene! All that was missing was the mustache twirling!! HA!!!

Thanks, Diana. Okay. Gonzalo is wise to Rene that he just doesn't respect or care about the truth. Like Esteban and Marco, the meaning of events is not in their verity, but in the usefulness the hold in the promotion of their own selfish goals!

Paco seemed surprise that payment was due. I think it might have been the due date, but loan sharks have to keep their targets off balance and on the lower end of the power differential, thus the lackey showing up unexpectedly at Paco's place of business demanding immediate payment, even literally taking money out of Paco's wife's hands! Designed to be threatening and humiliating!

You are welcome, Amiga!

Hi, Susanlynn! Mil gracias, Querida!

Prayers for your friend and for you!

My Dear, you have a way with words as well.

As this story unfolds, we are, swept along on the waves of drama as we witness the eternal struggle of good vs evil which is the heart of telenovelas and in fact, real life. Onward to fight the good fight.

I hope you are of a mind to stop by throughout the day, that people will continue to comment. Looks like another novela is starting Monday. I hope it's not too heavy because these stories are a nice distraction.

Gracias a todos; see y'all later!

Another lovely recap LILA. You really shine when you're recounting a subtle, emotional moment between two people. It adds a lot to our enjoyment of the telenovela.

All these moments I loved:

"Regina and David face each other and very subtly, the professional veneer begins to peel away." Great description.

"We can almost hear him say "Curses! Foiled again!" Yep. As much as I hate René, the payback is the delight we experienced when his nasty plans come a-cropper.

Your noting the quiet music, especially the instrumental solos, that underscore each scene..

"long, probing, the-world-has-gone-away kiss" Yes, that whole scene was very tender, very moving and you described it perfectly. The actor playing Rafa is not attractive, but the way he used his eyes, his face, his body in those moments was absolutely enchanting and seductive. Gaining a lot of respect for him as an actor.

The odious Funk Family. Well, the booby prize in conduct goes to Valeria today. She was nasty to everybody, in spite of that pious Rosary praying for her dad. Granted, her mother has been at her worst in these scenes (not surprising...people who've been betrayed are USUALLY at their worst) but precisely because her mother is so gutted, to tell her "The infidelity is YOUR fault. You're so controlling!" is like pouring hot pitch on an open, gaping wound. Okay. Think it. BUT DON'T SAY IT. Valeria was equally nasty to Perla. And I'm less bothered by that, as betraying a sister is pretty darned low. There's actually no one in this miserable family that is likable or admirable in any way. Just ugh.

Yes, we're tired of Regina's neck cranking. And for me it's new. I've seen her in a lot of shows. It's almost as annoying as "cabalmente" in Mariana de la Noche. But whatevah. If she and David get together at last, I'll be cheering. He was adorable in this episode. Just Right.

Finally, need to give a shoutout to DIANA'S wonderful paragraph:

"I am getting emotionally invested in this, mostly because of your ability to see and understand the workings of the human heart and the gamut of emotions to be felt and processed."

Great description, DIANA, of why we enjoy LILA's writing so much. And why it really adds to our enjoyment of this story.

Have a great day everybody. Hoping that you see the hidden blessings all around you today and that you feel hopeful and empowered every moment.

Medicos. Another first-rate and moving recap, Lila. And Yep, ever since Luis asked Paulina what she'd been up to since they broke up, and she reeled off that list of very advanced pediatric specialties, we kind of knew this moment was coming. Evidently, she was the best one to diagnose and treat Gabriel. I hope she doesn't decide that the gamma globulin were the wrong thing to do. I also found the interaction between Rafa and Cinthia very appealing. Hope this one has a happy ending!

MEDICOS

JudyB!!! Thank you, Amiga!!!

Ah! Judy, we'll show those old treat-em-like-fish-chasing-bait writers! They deny us a Regina and David love story, by gum, we'll find love ourselves. . . .Though, like you said the other day, this could be a build up to a big David/Regina explosion! Anyway, Rafa's trajectory so far is very satisfying.

Judy, your paragraph on the Funk Family is spot on! YUCK! Who in the hell does this story line appeal to? GUACALA!!!

Awww, JudyB, you are too SWEET! I am blessed to be enjoying this little medical Peyton Place with such a group of kind, witty and open-hearted people such as yourselves. Yes ma'am! Gracias!

"VENCER EL MIEDO":

Lila: I'm assuming you've been watching this Telenovela as well ?

1.) I KNEW I couldn't trust that creepy Uncle David, who is now revealed as the mastermind behind the drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc.,

2.) Rommel, Dirty Cop Menendez, David & Rommel's crew are all working together in this EVIL sinister chaos.

3.) Poor Omar: just wait until he finds out how Old Man Horacio really died....

4.) Cristina going back to her day job: Criminologist.

5.) Sounds like Creepy Uncle David had Omar's Daddy whacked.

6.) Those flashbacks are very handy & very critical in the closing stretch.

7.) I see Omar was reunited with his mother, who we found out, was a drug addict.

8.) Maru is an amazing lady.

9.) Big question is whether Menendez's sidekick is involved in the corruption too ?

10.) Mommy Duran is a brave, strong & dignified woman.

11.) Vicente is a creepy who needs to go away & stop harassing his family.

12.) Let's see if Rebeca comes clean & tells the truth for once in her miserable life.

O/T

Don't know these people or this novela, Steve. Sorry.

MEDICOS

SpanProf! Sorry I missed you, Kid!

And Yep, ever since Luis asked Paulina what she'd been up to since they broke up, and she reeled off that list of very advanced pediatric specialties, we kind of knew this moment was coming.

You're right! I missed that! That WAS an important clue, though I attributed it to just being a necessary monkey wrench for a "too happy" family. Nice catch, SpanProf!

Well, Rafa and Cinthia are simmering on the back burner for now but the heat has been turned up under the Galvans! I think they're about to become a not-so-happy and less boring couple!

Can y'all see Susana and Paulina mowling and scratching in a cat fight!? YAH!

Thank you, SpanProf!

MEDICOS 46/54

Gracias, Lila. Another great recap.

No question that Paulina is trouble. She wants Luis and Susanna knows this even without empirical evidence.

I was also nervous about Gonzalo covering up for Rafael, who came to him before there were irreversible consequences to his problem. However, since he suspects Rene of attempting to sabotage him and the ER team he knows that Rene's only weapon would be spin control, as he was not a witness to the incident. While Gonzalo doesn't know that Rene has an accomplice in Marco, he can definitely find witnesses to Marco's arrogance and his bad attitude when that comes to light. Rafael's addiction is not unique in his profession, but we can count on Rene to try to make it sound like it is.

Marco's father is just as nasty as he is. Hopes are dashed.

I suspect that Cinthia's parents will use this intro to Rene to try to sabotage her career so she will have no choice left but to come back to the fold. Despicable.

Médicos

Lila, thanks a bunch.

I was so glad Gonzalo covered for Rafa with Rene. At last he realizes Rene is out to destroy not help. Since Rafa was taking leave to get rehab, there was nothing for Rene to do anyway.

The daughter blaming her mom for the dad cheating with his SIL, just disgraceful. She hit her mom when she was at her lowest. Never ever a reason to cheat with an in-law. For pete's sake, if you have to, find someone else, anyone else to cheat with!

How will Luis react tonight? Like a deer in headlights, so poor Susanna can see he's still stuck on his Pediatrician?

MEDICOS

Thank you, Niecie! You are right about Gonzalo. Sometimes good people are honest to their own detriment when a little shielding of part of the truth is justified!

What you said about the funk family is also true! It is NEVER ok to cheat with an inlaw. That story line is so disgusting, I just can't! UUUUF!

Niecie, yes, how WILL Luis react? I'm afraid deer in the headlights or teenage boy with a sudden roll of coins in his pocket are distinct possibilities. Poor Goober!

Thanks, Girl!

MEDICOS 46/54

Rehab isn't accomplished in a few days. He might come back with his system clear of whatever he was taking, but he won't be out of the woods yet. He will need months of therapy to get to the root of his issues and addictions. What he might need is a hiatus from work, but his chances of getting this are slim to none.

As for Natalia, I understand how horrible this betrayal is, but she does come off as a control freak. Her treatment of her ailing husband was appalling. Had he been abusive I could understand this and would cheer her on. What would make more sense would be for her to have withheld her anger until he was out of the woods... then gotten Victoria Escalante to represent her in divorce court and taken him to the cleaners.

MEDICOS

Hey, Urban! I'll hit ya back in a bit. Thanks!

OT:

UA: I had no idea that legendary Mexican actor Hector Suarez passed away on June 2nd.

MEDICOS

Urban! I like the way you think!

What would make more sense would be for her to have withheld her anger until he was out of the woods... then gotten Victoria Escalante to represent her in divorce court and taken him to the cleaners.

I hope they wrap that story up and get those sick folk off the screen!

ITA about Rafa. It definitely will take more than a few days for him to be all right. We'll see how they handle it. With him gone, there's no love left. Maybe these silly writers will let David and Regina finally finish and conversation and get their issues straightened out! Sheesh!

"MEDICOS":

Lila: I see David & Regina still not settling their issues yet ? These producers & writers sure as Hell don't want them to be happy don't they ?

Medicos

I have had enough of the fighting sisters . Let's hope they move that story out.

I expect some interesting interactions now that Paulina has been brought into Gabe's case.

Médicos

Late to the party but didn’t want to skip thanking you for the wonderful recaps Lila!!

Only hace a couple things to say:
- since they’re dragging the Regina and David storyline, there better be fireworks. If they’re making us wait this long, I hope it’s not disappointing
- I low-key loved that Arturo was NOT in the break room when Rafa was telling the team all about his issues lol.
