It was announced tonight that on Thursday, “Hija” would be 2 hours long, running from 8-10PM (E).
Murat? Oyku whines, nooo… uff… why does it have to be with him? But it’s for you, says Candan. You will be with me. Oyku says, no don’t do it; my dad’s coming back, and he will get me out. Candan stops her, your dad? Yes, says Oyku, he told me so. When did he say this? You saw your dad? Uh…Oyku says, the truth is I didn’t see him, but I know dad wouldn’t leave me here. You don’t need “Mr. Fun” to get me out of here. Candan looks disappointed--but Oyku… Another plea from Oyku, please don’t do it, Candan. And it’s obvious you don’t want to marry him either. This gives Candan something to think about. The worker comes out of the room and tells Oyku it’s time for bed. Oyku thanks Candan for the coat and they hug goodbye. Looks like Oyku did well to put doubts into Candan; she picks up her things, sighs, and leaves.
Right on cue, “Mr. Fun”, aka Mu-rat, calls Candan as she’s leaving the orphanage. Did something happen, asks Candan? He will be brief (please). I just spoke to my parents. About? About our wedding. My mom agrees with the marriage. You know how much she loves you. She’s very happy and hopes to see you soon. Candan doesn’t look so happy; she asks, is that necessary? After all, it’s a marriage of convenience. He answers yes, what did you want me to do? I couldn’t tell her that; she wouldn’t understand so easily. Mu-rat thinks it’s better if they tell her together. Candan says she understands.
Mu-rat’s parents want to meet as soon as possible. Candan says she is busy right now; can we talk later? And in the meantime, she will think about what he just said. Mu-rat isn’t too happy, but he agrees and will expect her call. (I think Candan has realized this marriage would be a mistake, thank goodness, but how will she get out of it.)
Cemal is at home drinking and wondering where Demir is. He thinks back to what Sunger said—there is no place else for them to go and they have no money. This gives him an idea. He downs his drink and takes his gun.
Our guys get to their room. Ugur goes to shower. Demir flops on the bed and he takes something out of his pocket—the diamonds. Ugur comes back to get a towel. Demir shows him the jewels and says, want to save yourself with me? Ugur can’t believe he didn’t leave the diamonds behind. Demir tells him, these things will save our lives. Ugur hopes those things won’t put them in jail.
Demir explains, everyone is looking for the diamonds. They will find the diamonds, but we won’t be around. You know who they will trap? Jilet! We will plant them on Jilet and call the cops on him. How will they find Jilet, Ugur asks? Demir says, dress up like a foreign guy and pretend you are selling an expensive painting. Jilet will find you. Ugur thinks this is a great idea.
Demir tells Ugur he has to go back to his house to get money for Oyku’s meds. Cemal is already there rooting through everything. He finds Demir’s money stash, puts his gun on the table and sits in wait.
Ugur walks into the tea house. He is pretending to be a German tourist (This is his disguise? It doesn’t seem very good and his performance isn’t much better). He asks a patron for a favor. He introduces himself as Marcus. The patron’s name is Bulent. Marcus wants to sell a painting, a very expensive painting. Bulent asks, is it here or in Germany? It’s here. Bulent says give me your number and I will call you back. Ugur leaves and Bulent calls Jilet, I have good news. (Do you wonder what this good news is?)
dondi356
Demir makes his way home. He enters the house to find Cemal with gun in hand and the money on the table. What are you doing here? Cemal says, I figured you would run out of money and you couldn’t go to the bank. Demir says, should I take you to the mental hospital? You’re obsessed. Cemal laughs and says he will let that one slide. He continues, let’s talk about how long you will be in prison because I’m taking you to the police right now.
Demir makes a crack about Asu leaving. This enrages Cemal, and he points his gun right in Demir’s face. You’re coming with me or I’ll shoot! Demir says, ok calm down, I’ll do what you want. Cemal is close enough for Demir to take a swing at him. Cemal falls back and the gun goes flying. A fight ensues. Cemal chokes Demir but Demir manages to grab something and hits Cemal over the head. Demir breaks free and turns the gun on Cemal. What are you going to do? Shoot me? Cemal eggs Demir on, come on! Do it! Kill me! Demir doesn’t shoot; he grabs the money and takes off. Leaving Cemal both relieved and frustrated.
Oyku is wearing her clown nose and gets into bed. Ayse asks to join her. Asye, I want to tell you something, but you must keep it a secret. Ayse promises. Oyku tells her, I’m not staying here for very long. My dad is going to get me out and take me home. Ayse says she wishes her dad would take her home. Oyku asks Ayse if she would like to come to her house. We will ask for permission. Ayse likes that idea. The worker comes in and tells Ayse to get back in her bed and it’s lights out.
Oyku has a dream. She wakes up in her bed and looks up to see the lights above her bed, her stuffed animal Pelin and her copy of The Little Prince. She gets up and goes out to the living room. Confetti falls all around. Ugur, Candan, Mufide and Ayse are there. Demir shouts, welcome home, princess! Everyone is applauding and Demir and Oyku embrace. Oyku smiles in her sleep.
Ugur returns to find Demir icing his face. What happened? I though you were going home. Guess who was there? Cemal. Demir throws the gun on the bed--a gift from Cemal. Ugur is shocked (doesn’t he get it yet?) At least Ugur has good news, Jilet’s guy took the bait, expect a call soon.
Ugur is trying to cover Demir’s bruises. Not working. They can’t go to the orphanage like this. What will we do? Ugur has an idea. Ugur gives Demir the once over he starts to laugh. It will work.
Cut to our guys in drag. (Sorry, this is kind of FF material for me so I’m condensing a bit.) They walk to the orphanage. It’s difficult for them to walk in heels. They arrive at the gate and ask to come in. The guard says they must see the director on the first floor. They enter the building and look around for the children. They bicker and complain and Ugur jokes about finding his true identity.
They make their way to the library where they find Oyku studying. Oyku doesn’t recognize Demir until he puts the meds on the table and says, here’s your medicine. She realizes now--Dad? We had no choice; Ugur dressed us like women. Ugur waves. Dad you look so funny! Demir tells Oyku to take her meds now. Oyku looks serious and says, dad, I have to tell you something … Demir gets a worried look. Oyku tells him, you look gorgeous! They laugh. Demir says, from now on I will be your mom and your dad!
dondi356
The worker comes in to take the kids back to their rooms. She goes over to Demir and Ugur. Who are you? Ugur starts the BS. We came to tell you about our wonderful organization. We wanted to visit the children and see what they need. The worker says they shouldn’t be here and wants to take them to the director’s office. Demir reminds Oyku to eat and take her meds. What now? whispers Ugur. Demir says we have to follow her. Oyku waves goodbye and is happy.
Our ladies sip coffee with the director. Ugur is BS’ing again about their organization. Do they need anything in particular? The director says they have everything they need but book and office supplies are always welcome. Ugur gets a call. He excuses himself and goes out to the hallway. It’s Bulent. Ugur switches to being Marcus. Bulent has a buyer. He will message the location and you can meet him there tonight. Ugur goes back to the director’s office and says, unfortunately we must go. There is an event and they need our help in the kitchen. Let’s stay in touch and they leave.
Ugur tells Demir that the meeting is set. All we need to do is find a fake painting for tonight.
The guys sneak back into the hotel and the desk clerk stops them. Where are you going? We are going to see Ferdi and Hakan. The clerk laughs, the clowns? Ugur takes offense. Yes, they are our boyfriends! It’s none of your business! Ok go ahead, the clerk says with a smile.
The guys get into their German disguises and get ready to go. Demir takes Cemal’s gun. Ugur objects but Demir wants the gun. This is the only chance he has to get his daughter back. They argue. Demir is keeping the gun. They go over the plan before they meet with Jilet. Demir says let’s start the negotiations and then I will disappear and plant the jewels. Then we will call the cops after we leave. Ugur says what if Jilet knows we have a fake? Demir thinks the hard part is getting in the house.
They ring the bell. Bulent opens the door. Come in, Jilet will be here shortly. They take a seat. Do you want a drink? Ugur says no and Bulent asks Demir. Ugur speaks for him because he doesn’t hear well or speak. Demir signals that he needs to use the bathroom. It’s upstairs says Bulent, and someone accompanies Demir up. Demir places the jewel box in a cabinet and exits the bathroom. Demir looks around; the guy is not by the door, so he heads back downstairs on his own.
Demir comes downstairs to find Ugur tied up with the painting smashed over his head. Ugur doesn’t know what happened. He says they tied him up as soon as Demir went upstairs. No one else is in the house. Demir realizes it’s a set up and they need to leave asap. Ugur wonders how Jilet figured it out (could it be the lousy disguises and accents?) The guys look to leave through the front, but the police are already at the door with their guns drawn. Demir aims his gun ready to shoot if they enter.
Ugur gets Demir to lower his gun and they run back upstairs to get the jewels. They duck into a bedroom as the cops break down the front door. We see Cemal smiling from a distance. Demir thinks quick and opens a window. Our guys go out on the roof and down to the ground as the police make their way upstairs. A cop looks out the window--they escaped. The call goes out for all units.
Demir and Ugur make their escape through the woods but Cemal with a gun comes up behind them. Where are you going, friends? Our guys turn around. Maldita! Cemal says, so well dressed and the night is still young. You think you can leave before the party is over?
And we are out.
dondi356
Terrific recap, dondi356! Thanks so much. I loved it right from the start, where you did such a marvellous job of describing the interaction between Oyku and Candan after Oyku learns that Candan is planning to marry Mu-rat. You captured every nuance!
Needless to say, I enjoyed your asides. However, there was absolutely NO need to apologize for FFing a bit through the guys in drag. (I'd have wanted an apology if you HADN'T done so! :-) ) And yes, Ugur's German impersonation was, um, nicht gut, to put it mildly. I wouldn't be surprised if Jilet's guy saw through it right from the start.
I'm not sure whether tonight's episode will have events turn for the better or the worse, but either way, I'll be recapping it. However, I saw last night (and deb mentioned here) that on Thursday night Hija will run for two hours, 8-10 pm. I simply can't handle that. I already often get to bed too late when I do just a normal recap. Trying to deal with Thursday's simply isn't possible for me. I can suggest two possibilities. One would be that you and I swap this week: I'll do Friday's (or, if need be, tomorrow's, though I'd much prefer Friday's) and you'll do Thursday's, putting it up some time on Friday (since you're on Eastern time, that shouldn't be too late for anyone). If that's not possible, I could do a bare bones outline of what happens in the two hours, and you, novelera, and Rgv Chick can fill in some of the details in your comments. Just let me know what you think.
Another five-star recap, dondi! Your asides were SO good.
How many cliffhangers can they pull with Cemal on the verge of achieving his revenge? I have no idea what will happen tonight.
So something is still off about the caper when Demir and Ugur were tied up in the mansion and ended up on the run. Dondi and I both sort of remember Jilet, when he was gloating over Demir and Ugur, saying something about turning in the diamonds and looking like a hero. Why didn't he make sure he got those diamonds at that time?
Demir DID look gorgeous as a woman! Ugur, not so much.
Demir knew exactly which buttons to push with Cemal, still smarting about Asu having left the country.
I'm thinking they will go with Demir (and maybe Candan) adopting Ayse.
Dondi, another stellar recap, thank you!
I hope Candan has the inner strength to back out of that marriage; she looked very pressured when Mu-rat told her that his parents were looking forward to seeing her.
Count me in as not minding you ffw-ing through the drag scenes. The important thing is that Oyku got her meds.
I enjoyed watching Demir take Cemal down.
It would have surprised me if Jilet's men hadn't seen through Ugur's so-called disguise. They had done so well with the other disguises, but fell quite short that last time.
Looking forward to seeing how they get away from Cemal tonight.
Juanita, don't fret about Thursday, bare bones works for me; and I'll be happy to fill in whatever details if needed.
Thanks everyone.
The disguise stuff was a cute trick with the clowns, but it was too much last night. I almost think they deserved to get caught with that lousy German tourist scam.
About that silly Jilet caper, novelera: I think Jilet intended Ugur and Demir to get caught with the goods and they would have if Demir didn’t remember he had Oyku’s hair clip. I believe Jilet spoke figuratively when he said he was turning in the diamonds himself.
I’m wondering what the guys will do now with the gems, but they must get away from Cemal first. Maybe they will try planting them on Cemal next. That would be great!
Thinking two hours is a bit much for me, too, Juanita. I will do it if you have misgivings. Like you, I would only do an overview with much less detail than usual. What have recappers done in the past with a two-hour show? I can’t recall. Do they ever split the recapping job, first hour, second hour? Does anyone else have a suggestion? We have a day to decide. Any clue why Telemundo is doubling up?
dondi356
Thanks very much, dondi356 and Rgv Chick, for your suggestions about how to handle Thursday's two-hour broadcast. I have no idea why they're doing this. Last night there were ads for an upcoming novela whose name escapes me at the moment. Just how or whether the arrival of the new novela has anything to do with the two-hour Hija I have no idea. Nor do I know what time slot the new novela will appear in. Nor when.
I think it's rare for a sudden 2-hour segment to occur, but not unheard of. I vaguely recall someone being praised for simply expanding her recap to cover both hours (Not sure whether this was on Telemundo or Univisión). I think there was also a gran final that lasted for two hours with two different recappers involved, but I think both were in the same time zone. I don't think that would work so well for Hija, since there's three hours difference in time zones between dondi356 and me. And even if that weren't the case, I'm not wild about the idea of two different people doing it.
So it looks as if the most likely possibilities are:
1) I handle Thursday, as usual, but instead of a recap I'll simply provide a bare bones outline of what happens during those two hours.
2) dondi356 and I switch days. dondi356 would do an overview of Thursday's 2 hours with much less detail than usual (which may or may not be similar to what I was offering to do) and I'd do a more or less normal recap on Friday.
I'm willing to do either.
Cemal is pointing his gun at Demir and Ugur. Cemal tells Ugur it's Demir he wants to talk to. He keeps pointing the gun at Demir. Demir tells him that that's not a water pistol, he should stop pointing it at him. Suddenly, Ugur appears behind Cemal, pointing at Cemal's head the gun Demir had brought (and that Ugur had asked him not to bring). Cemal tells Ugur, "Put that gun down or I'll shoot Demir." Ugur replies, "If you shoot Demir, I'll kill you." The three of them stay frozen in position for a short time, but then Cemal slowly lowers the gun, keeping it pointed all the while at Demir. For a moment, I thought he was going to make a very, um, strategic shot, but instead he gave the gun to Demir.
Demir and Ugur say good riddance to Cemal and leave. Demir asks Ugur whether he would have shot Cemal. Ugur says no, he'd never shoot someone. (Hmm...never say never, Ugur.) Once they're back in the city, Ugur takes some cartons of milk from a parked milk truck and leaves money for the milk he took.
A woman at the orphanage is showing Oyku the private bus that will take her to and from school. She also introduces Oyku to the bus driver, who seems very nice. Everything seems very pleasant, but we see one of Jilet's thugs watching at a distance. He calls Jilet and tells him that the girl is getting on the bus. Jilet instructs him to watch what she does and what time she takes the bus. Then Jilet calls Cemal and asks him to come see him that evening. He has something to tell him.
Demir and Ugur go back to their hotel and try to go up to their room without being seen by the guy at the desk. Oops, no such luck. The guy stops them and still wants to see their ID. Ugur tries to talk him out of it, but finally decides he has no choice but to knock him out.
The orphanage bus drives up to the school and Oyku gets out. She encounters Ayla, Ilayda's mother. She greets Sra Ayla politely and continues up the steps to the school. Sra Ayla is stunned. Mercan and his mother arrive and Ayla declarers, "She's back! The one whose father is a thief. She hadn't come for several days, and I was so happy. Let's start a petition to have her transferred to another school." Mercan's mother replies that Oyku is just an innocent child. She's never hurt anyone. She's had so much bad luck. Ayla expresses concern about how Ilayda will be affected by having someone like that girl in her class. Mercan is clearly disgusted and leaves to go up the steps. His mother, too, bids good day to Ayla and leaves. We then see Jilet's thug drive up to the school, look up the steps, and then drive off.
Demir and Ugur are in a shop (perhaps Mehmet's shop?) looking for a new disguise. Mehmet comes by, and they tell him they want something unobtrusive that won't call attention to them. Mehmet suggests a bear costume! "Perfect," says Demir sarcastically. "It's normal to see bears roaming around in public." Mehmet then has another idea. We next see them as two old men with white beards, canes, and glasses. As they walk back to the hotel, Demir instructs Ugur to have his hand shake as he uses the cane, and Ugur tells Demir to change the way his voice sounds.
Candan is giving instructions to a client about how to care for her sick pet. The client leaves, and Mu-rat enters. He tells her that she seemed confused the last time they spoke, so he wanted to come by to see how she was. She makes him some coffee, and they talk. She tells him that she's very excited about the possibility of adopting Oyku. He replies, "But the idea of marrying me spoiled everything." He proposes that they talk at more length that night over dinner, and he'll also tell her what the lawyer said. ??? She agrees.
In their new disguises as old men, Demir and Ugur return to the hotel. I'm not sure, but I think a different guy is at the desk. They tell him they want a room. He asks to see their IDs. They go through a routine pretending they don't hear, they don't understand, they don't remember where they put the IDs, they argue about whose fault it is. All this has the desired effect of driving the guy at the desk crazy until he finally tells them never mind, just go to the room. He gives them the keys. As soon as they're inside the room, Ugur wants to go to sleep. Demir says he will stay awake and come up with a plan for how to proceed.
Oyku and Mercan are having lunch together at school. He asks about the orphanage. Oyku tells him it's nice, people seem kind and there are lots of kids to play with. He observes that everyone wants to be her friend because she's such a friendly person. Suddenly Ilayda and her evil friend come by. Oyku asks what they want. Ilayda says they've come to congratulate her. Her father is famous. His picture is everywhere! Mercan tells her to stop saying stupid things. Oyku asks him not to get involved. She then turns to Ilayda and tells her to mind her own business. The conversation gets uglier, and finally Oyku gets very angry, says "My father is innocent," and goes after Ilayda.
At that moment, Sevgi comes into the room, breaks up the fighting, and says to Ilayda, "Didn't I tell you not to talk about that?" Sevgi asks Oyku whether she's OK and suggests that they talk alone for a few minutes. They walk outside the classroom. Sevgi tells her, "I know you're upset. We all have such times, but we get over them. And remember what I said to you earlier. If anything bothers you, you can talk to me." Oyku tells her "Something about this smells fishy to me. I believe in my father, and in Señor Ugur." Sevgi seems to agree.
Back at the hotel, Demir is trying to wake Ugur. Ugur is talking in his sleep. "I love you, Sevgi." "Make me tea, Mamá." Finally, Demir succeeds in waking him. "Are we still fugitives?" Ugur asks. "Yes, welcome to real life" responds Demir. Demir then tells Ugur about his plan. They'll get rid of the diamonds, putting them in Cemal's house and then calling the police. Ugur objects that this is very dangerous. Demir agrees, and adds "That's why I will do it by myself." All he asks of Ugur is that "if anything happens to me, take care of Oyku."
Candan arrives at the restaurant for dinner with Mu-rat. The person at the door asks for the name of the person who made the reservation. "Mu-rat." "What is the last name?" As the woman is looking at the reservation list, Candan spots Mu-rat and his parents already seated. "Never mind, I see them" she tells the woman and goes over to the table. The parents greet her warmly. She gives Mu-rat a covertly hostile look. He tells her his parents insisted on coming. "No problem," she lies. "I'm happy to see you" she says to them. Mu-rat's mother says, "The news is very exciting." "What news?" asks Candan. "The marriage, of course." Mu-rat's father says "we should have a toast." Candan is staring at her phone. "I'm sorry," she tells them. I have an emergency. Enjoy your dinner." And with that she makes a rapid exit. "Let me accompany you" says Mu-rat to her receding back. Outside the restaurant, she asks him "Why didn't you tell me the truth? Forget about our getting married!" (Viewerville cheers loudly)
If Oyku were watching the novela, she would be leading the cheering. But instead she's in her bed in the orphanage, writing in her diary.
"Dear Diary, I miss my father, I miss my house, I miss eating eggs for breakfast. I'm so scared that something bad would happen to my father. I'm so sorry that I chose Asu. But I had to. And she has the flashback we've all been waiting for. Cemal tells her "I have news about your father." Cemal says the judge will ask her whether she wants to live with her mother or her father. "What will you reply?" he asks. "My father, of course." He tells her, "If you choose your father, things won't go well for him and you'll be sorry. Remember when you and I talked, and then you told your father. He came and hit me. I went to the hospital and found out everything. If you tell your father about this conversation or you choose him over Asu, I will tell the police everying I know, and he'll go to prison. And I'll make the people I know in prison hurt your father. If you love your father and don't want him to be hurt, choose Asu."
Oyku falls asleep and has a dream. Demir comes to the house with a present. "Papá? I'm so happy to see you. I missed you." She looks at the box with the bow on it and asks, "What is this? What's happening?" Demir is holding the box, but he's in handcuffs, and the police are taking him away. Oyku is crying "Don't take him away! Let him go! Papá, don't leave!" Ayse hears Oyku calling out and comes over to wake her from her nightmare. As soon as Oyku is awake, she tells Ayse, "I have to speak to my father right away!" Ayse leads her to a pay phone in the orphanage. Oyku dials.
Demir's phone rings. Ugur urges him not to answer. It could be Jilet's men or the police. Demir tells him it could be Oyku, he gave her his number. He answers and hears Oyku's voice. Immediately, he's worried. "Did something happen? are you OK?" Oyku assures him that she's fine, that she was worried about him. She tells him about her nightmare. "The police took you away. I was so scared. You won't leave me like Asu did, will you?" Demir replies "No! Never! I'd rather die! I'll find a way to get you out of there and take you home with me and we'll never be separated again. Moreover, King Demir and his princess never are separated." Oyku then hesitantly says, "That man, Cemal...he can't hurt you, can he?" "Why are you asking me this?" At this point, her call runs out of minutes and cuts off.
Demir is beside himself. "I'm going crazy. I can't protect my daughter. What kind of father am I?" Ugur tries to calm him down. He proposes a plan. Demir will protect Oyku when she's at the orphanage, and Ugur will protect her when she's at school. Demir asks how Ugur will do that without Sevgi noticing. Ugur says he'll figure it out. Oyku's security is most important.
Cemal comes to see Jilet. Jilet tells him, "You let the rats get away once again. But don't worry. It will all end very soon. I have an excellent idea. It will be the end of him, of both." Jilet recently found out that Demir has a "bastard daughter." "If we have the girl, Demir will come." Cemal points out that getting her won't be so easy. She's in an orphanage. "We'd be kidnapping her. The orphanage is a government organization." This doesn't faze Jilet. "We'll find a way. I have a man following the daughter. We know what time she starts and when she gets out. We change the bus driver and she never makes it back to the orphanage. Insted, she comes directly to us. And she'll remain here as our guest. Her father will come to rescue her. We'll force him to turn himself in to the police." Cemal thinks this is a very good plan. Jilet tells him, "I promised that I wouldn't die until I know they're rotting in prison, Cemal." And on that cheery note, the episode ends.
Busy day but wanted to drop in and thank you, Juanita, for yet another outstanding recap filled with so many needed details.
I've had enough of the disguises, hope they FFW to actually getting rid of those pesky earrings and sock it good to Cemal and Jilet.
Yay for Candan putting her foot down and telling Mu-Rat to bug off.
FINALLY we get to know who threatened Oyku into choosing to live with Asu. It was the obio...C'estMal(o)
So Jilet has stooped to Cemal's level and plans to use Oyku to catch Demir. I have a few words for him, but will spare you the expletives.
Telemundo press release, "will present Thursday a two-hour gran evento of “Todo Por Mi Hija” with an episode full of shocking moments that will be decisive in the fate of “Oyku”."

Thanks very much, RgvChick, for your great comments. I especially LOVED your multilingual "C'estMal(o)"!
I didn't think Candan would come to her senses so quickly, though of course Oyku's response upon hearing of Candan's intention really helped, as did Mu-rat's involving his parents so quickly.
And yes, I too am getting very tired of the silly disguises.
I wonder how close we are to the end of this telenovela. It's been running longer than the programs at 8 and 10 pm. We haven't had any sign that we're in últimos capítulos, but they're advertising "La Suerte de Lori" as coming pronto. Hmmm.
Another stellar recap, Juanita. Your asides echoed my own thoughts. Viewerville did cheer at Candan's telling Murat she wasn't going to marry him. He definitely overplayed his hand. He tried to win with 2 9's and lost.
For some reason I did not think Cemal was why Oyku chose Asu. I was leaning toward Oyku wanting to "save" Asu. Now, if this were only a telenovela made in Miami and in Spanish, we could hope for a truly grisly end for Cemal. But Turkish novelas, except for the ones about the Ottoman empire, don't seem to feature bloodshed.
I suppose Jilet's plan will happen and Oyku will be kidnapped. If she did not have the illness, I think she's smart enough to get the better of both villains. But that's way too much stress for her condition.
For once Sevgi reprimanded Ilayda.
Gotta run. I need to finish another short story by Mario Benedetti in preparation for my 3PM Spanish Zoom class.
Great recap, Juanita. Thank you so much! Sorry I don’t have much time to comment. I’ll be stuck at the office for a while longer.
Did Demir just toss Cemal’s gun away, where the slimeball can pick it up and use it again? I don’t think that any of the three are capable of killing anyone. They all have had the chance. Maybe Demir would if someone harmed Oyku.
I must give credit to Mercan’s mom for reminding Ayla that Oyku is an innocent child. And she doesn’t seem disturbed by the fact that Mercan was at Demir’s house studying. Maybe that’s why Mercan is such a nice kid.
No surprise it was “C'estMal(o)” --nice Rgv Chick.
Add coward to the list of Mu-rat’s faults. I’m sure this isn’t the last of him though.
We are in the middle of Turkish episode 18 out of 34 total. Maybe we will get more double episodes and probably a ton of edits.
Yes, novelera, not a lot of bloodshed in Turkish dizi as compared to the Latin TNs but I have seen bad guys get killed sometimes and unfortunately so do the good guys.
I will do the recap tonight. I’ll take the Thursday, too, and see what I can do with it.
dondi356
Thanks very much, novelera and dondi356, for your appreciative and very interesting comments. novelera, I liked your notion of Oyku wanting to "save" Asu, but I was never able to shake my feeling that Oyku's decision was the result of something evil, and thus Cemal was from the start my primary suspect. I was nonetheless somewhat surprised when he really turned out to be the cause of Oyku's choosing Asu. I kept thinking he was too obvious, they'd go with a more surprising explanation. Nope.
dondi356, I confess that I didn't notice (or don't remember noticing) Demir throwing away Cemal's gun. Perhaps he didn't want to be carrying a gun if he were caught by the police?
Thanks for the updated info on how many more episodes there are. Actually, I'm beginning to hope that they'll make some substantial cuts. I don't really feel as if we're only halfway along.
Finally, thanks VERY much for agreeing to take on Thursday's 2-hour episode. I'm sure you'll do a fine job. And since you're doing Thursday, I'll do Friday.
Slight rewind to Jilet and Cemal talking about kidnapping Oyku.
Oyku is eating breakfast. Demir is disguised as a janitor today. (how did he sneak in?) He sidles up to Oyku and starts emptying trays on her table. She doesn’t look up. He comments in a disguised voice, eat your eggs, if you don’t, you won’t grow. Still not looking, she says it’s none of his business and besides she doesn’t like her eggs this way. I know; you like them over easy, he says in his own voice. She jumps up--Dad? Shhh, you will make it obvious. Follow me. She waits a few beats and then goes off. They meet in a secluded area. Demir asks if she’s ok. He was worried about her last night. She says she is ok, just ran out of minutes.
Oyku asks, when am I leaving here and going home? When are you rescuing me? Demir is doing the best that he can. Oyku tells him everyone is calling him a thief. They say you will never take me out of here. Demir says, don’t believe them. I’ll get you. I love you very much.
Demir wants to know if anyone else has come to visit her at the orphanage. Yes, Candan has. He’s happy to hear that. But there’s something else, says Oyku. Candan told me she’s getting married. Demir is surprised. Oyku says you know to who, don’t you? Ese tal Mu-rat. Why? Because if she marries him, it will be easier for her to adopt me. Demir understands. He tells her to go, it’s time for school and don’t be late. He reminds her to take her meds. They hug ang kiss goodbye.
A little later, Demir is putting out the trash and he watches as Oyku gets on her bus. They wave to each other. The bus leaves and Demir says to himself it’s time for the operation.
Candan walks a patient out of the clinic. Surprise, Cemal happens to be walking out, too. (this looks like a different building. When did they move?) He comes over to speak with her. He asks about Oyku. Is she at the orphanage? Yes, they took her after Asu abandoned her. You know the rest. Poor girl, what a shame. And Demir? Have you heard from him? Candan is short with him, you already asked once, and I told you I don’t know anything. Cemal doesn’t understand how a father could disregard his daughter so suddenly. Anyway, he didn’t mean to bother her and he leaves. Cemal gets in his car and pulls away just as Demir walks up to the building.
Demir breaks into Cemal’s apartment. He goes into the bedroom, takes the jewel box out and he places it under the mattress when he hears the door open. Cemal is back; he forgot his phone. He heads right for the bedroom. The phone is not there. He finds it in the kitchen and leaves. Close call for Demir. He managed to duck into a closet. Demir leaves the apartment. He sees Candan fill the food dishes and go back inside. He thinks back to what Oyku said about Mu-rat.
He enters the clinic and locks the door. Candan. Demir? What are you doing here? Are you crazy? The police are looking for you, she says. Demir says, we haven’t had the chance to talk. It won’t take long. I don’t want you to get in trouble. Candan thinks this isn’t the right time. The police are after him. He should go. Demir says she is right but asks her to hear him out. They go in the back to talk.
Demir starts, I never imagined this would happen… going into your house to steal. She asks, what did you not imagine? That you would get caught or that I would find out? What couldn’t you imagine? No, it’s something else…that I’d fall in love with you, says Demir. Well, that stopped her in her tracks.
dondi356
Candan is dumbstruck. Demir continues, yes, it’s true. I’m a thief, a liar, and an idiot. But I am in love with you. From the first moment I saw you. I changed for you and my daughter. I really wanted a better life. But when Asu came into our lives…when Oyku chose her… I strayed. I was so upset I stole again and every day I became more lost. Cemal set us all up. It was too late before I realized it.
Candan finally finds her voice, Cemal? A set up? What? Why? Demir tells her Cemal blames him for spending 8 years in prison. He wants revenge. Candan asks, why are you here and what do you want from me? He comes right out with it, don’t marry Murat. Candan wonders how he knows that. You’ve been secretly meeting Oyku? He nods yes. Candan can’t believe he would put Oyku at risk like that.
Demir says he doesn’t expect Candan to understand or forgive him, but he didn’t want to leave like this. He won’t bother her either. He tells her he’s taking Oyku back, whatever it takes, and they will have a life just like before. I know why you want to marry Murat. Don’t do it. Demir says he will handle it. Don’t worry, trust me. Candan is getting emotional; she thinks Demir should leave now. Without another word, he goes.
Demir takes out his phone as he walks and makes a call. Ugur answers with a woman’s voice, hello dear, did you do what I asked? Yes, the trap is set. All we have to do is call the police. We see Ugur is in drag and he is at the school. He tells Demir he came early to see Sevgi. Demir warns him, don’t get caught.
I lost patience with this totally ridiculous scene so I condensed it. Sevgi comes out of the classroom and Ugur approaches her. Are you the teacher? May I speak with you for a moment? Yes, about? He introduces himself as Susan and he wants to speak to her about Oyku. He’s worried about her. Sevgi thinks it nice that someone cares. He asks her they could meet after school for coffee and discuss Oyku. Somehow, he talks Sevgi into accepting. Oyku comes out of the classroom. She recognizes Ugur and plays along. Sevgi leaves the two to talk. Oyku pulls Ugur down. She is happy to see him and can’t believe he would do this for her. Is everything ok? Yes, it is.
Cemal meets Jilet somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Jilet fills him in on the plan. The girl will come straight after school. We just have to wait.
Demir sneaks back into the orphanage. He changes into the janitor uniform and slaps on the fake mustache. He enters the dormitory and looks for Oyku’s bed. He sees Pelin, the snow globe and the clown nose. He sits on the bed. So, this is where you sleep? He sniffs her clothes and folds them up for her. He pulls her diary out from under her pillow. He reads the entry where she wrote she had to choose Asu. Demir wonders why she felt she had to choose Asu.
Ayla is getting parents to sign her petition to have Oyku removed from the school. Ugur is within earshot. Ayla speaks to another mother about that girl Oyku. You know her situation. Her father is a fugitive and her mother abandoned her. What if that man comes to school with a gun and makes a scene? So, I asked the principal and she said to gather signatures and she will evaluate. The other mother agrees and signs. Ayla hopes to collect most of the signatures today and once she has them, Oyku is out.
dondi356
Ugur approaches Ayla. Why are you obsessed with Oyku? She’s a good girl and the best student in school. You should teach your annoying daughter something instead of messing with Oyku! (you go, girl!) Ugur threatens to give Ayla a beating she will never forget and with that, Ugur grabs at the petition. There’s a struggle. Sevgi arrives to break them apart. Ugur manages to get the petition and tears it up. Ayla is shaken and calls Ugur a nasty woman. He delights in it. Sevgi takes him to task but Ugur blames it all on Ayla. He tells Sevgi to go help Ayla and he will take Oyku to the bus.
Ugur puts Oyku on the bus. It’s not Alper the regular driver. Oyku notices but doesn’t say anything and the bus takes off. Into the trip, Oyku gets up and asks, where is Alper? He’s sick. Why do you ask? Oyku notices the driver should have turned left. He tells her to shut up and sit down. She demands, stop the bus! I want to get out! She’s going to start screaming. He tells her again to sit down and shut up. Do as I say! The driver calls Jilet to say they are on the way. Jilet says, go where I told you and wait. The bus won’t come all the way to the hideout for precautions. Jilet tells his henchie to get the girl. Cemal wants to deal with Oyku himself and goes to meet the bus.
Demir is mopping the stairs. A worker comes by and asks if he is a new employee. Demir responds that Ismail is sick and he’s filling in. The worker is concerned; they weren’t informed. We have to let the main office know. She says, come with me. They enter the director’s office. She’s on the phone. We hear her say, what do you mean the bus never arrived? Didn’t they pick up the kids? Demir gets a worried look. The worker asks what happened. The bus never arrived, and the new girl is missing. The director decides to call the police immediately. Demir is alarmed.
Demir runs out of the office and makes a call to Ugur, still as Susan, who is having coffee with Sevgi. Ugur, did you put Oyku on the bus? Yes, of course. Well you shouldn’t have; the bus is missing! She’s missing! Meet me at the hotel immediately. Ugur explains to Sevgi there is an emergency and he must leave. Ha, ha, he kisses her cheeks and forehead and we see her wipe off all that yucky makeup. (I can’t believe she didn’t realize this weird woman was Ugur)
Cemal meets the bus. Oyku wants to know where she is and where are they taking her. Cemal grabs her and she yells, let me go! Where are you taking me? Someplace nice, you will like it. He throws her into the car. Oyku continues to object. Cemal if my dad finds out you kidnapped me, he will beat you up. Shut up. No, I’ll keep screaming until you let me go. Cemal mutters, give me patience.
At the hotel, Ugur has removed his makeup. Demir arrives. He’s angry and worried. He wants to take off immediately to find Jilet and Cemal. Ugur urges him to calm down and think. Why would Cemal want to hurt Oyku? He wants us. He will call us eventually. Be patient and calm down. Demir comes to his senses and sits.
dondi356
Oyku tells Cemal he will regret this once her dad finds out. The police are looking for you, too. This is getting on Cemal’s nerves. He says, don’t you ever shut up? No! She launches into a list of questions. Where are we going? Why? What did we do to you? Cemal asks for patience again. Not too soon for Cemal, they arrive at the hideout. He pulls Oyku out of the car. She’s resisting and yelling, let me go. I couldn’t tell if she punched him or kicked him.
They enter the house. Jilet goes over to welcome her with an orange. She knocks it out of his hand and threatens, if you don’t let me go now, my dad will make you pay. Jilet seems impressed, so young and making threats. Cemal says Oyku is like her mother; it’s in her blood. Jilet explains, we will let you go once your dead arrives. She kicks Jilet! (give him another for us, Oyku!) Jilet’s guy takes her into another room. Cemal goes in to talk to her.
Oyku, we’re going to call your dad now. You’re going to do as I say. No, I won’t. You can’t make me. You’re using me to take him down. Cemal says, remember what I told you? Flashback to his threat to harm Demir if she didn’t choose Asu. He tells her, I’ll keep my word. Do you need me to repeat it? Call your father. She dials the phone.
Cemal starts, hello Demir, how are you? Someone is here; she wants to talk to you. Demir threatens to kill Cemal if he hurts Oyku. Cemal gives the phone to Oyku. Dad? Are you ok, he asks? Yes, don’t worry. Did they hurt you? No, I’m fine. He assures Oyku, I’ll come and save you. King Demir will save the princess. Cemal takes the phone away from Oyku.
Cemal tells Demir to pay attention. Turn yourself into the police. Do your time like Jilet and I did. The difference is you won’t get out. You will spend the rest of your life there. Oyku is listening. Cemal continues, you have until midnight. If you don’t, you will never see your daughter again. Others will but you won't. Demir asks, how do I know you will let her go? Cemal responds, does that matter? Her own mother abandoned her. Do you think I want her? Listen, Demir…tonight at midnight. Your daughter will be here waiting.
And we are out.

Thank you Dondi! And I certainly don't blame you for condensing the nonsensical scenes like Ugur talking to Sevgi...TBH I appreciate it :-)
I was thrilled that Demir admitted to Candan that he is in love with her. The circumstances certainly weren't the best, but at least she knows that their feelings are mutual. Unfortunately, Demir doesn't know. Oh well, from your timeline calculations, Dondi, there is still plenty of time for that.
I was clenching my fists all through the kidnaping scenes and wanted to strike at something when C'estmalo took over. Oyku has a lot of spunk and I love that she kicked Jilet.
I have mixed feelings about tonight's double hitter. It'll be difficult to watch Oyku being harassed and threatened, but I'm hoping for a quick, successful rescue. My hopes are that Demir slows down and contacts that man who helped him get Ugur out of prison. If they think things through, they can work out a deal to catch Jilet and Cemal...and recover the gems.
Juanita, "I'm beginning to hope that they'll make some substantial cuts. I don't really feel as if we're only halfway along." I can't believe that this is only halfway through??? Good grief, how much more will Oyku have to go through, poor girl!!
Another option for Demir--
Have Ugur contact Sevgi and convince her to set up a meeting with her Pop the Cop. They can set up a sting operation really quick.
On second thought, Demir should call Sevgi himself...can't rely on Ugur.
Terrific recap, dondi356! Thanks very much. As always, I love your asides, such as "(give him another for us, Oyku!)." I think, by the way, that she also kicked Cemal. I think he really felt it, and I doubt that a punch would have had much impact (unless of course it was very strategically placed, but I don't think we've seen Oyku know about that yet :-) ).
Interersting that once again idiot Ugur turns out to be the wise one, telling Demir to calm down and pointing out why they captured Oyku and that they were bound to contact Demir very soon. I wish that part of Ugur's brain functioned more often.
Thankfully, your brain functions splendidly, and so you mercifully condensed the passage with "Susan." Muchas gracias!
I don't think Demir broke into Cemal's apartment. When Cemal left, I noticed that he didn't lock the door. I found that a bit strange. And when Demir came to the apartment, my impression is that he simply opened the door. Perhaps I'm wrong, but...
Again, many thanks for this excellent recap, and for volunteering to take on tonight's 2-hour session!
Rgv Chick, my saying that we're only about halfway through is based on dondi356's statement a day or so ago that we were on episode 18 out of 34 in the Turkish version.
Thank you, Rgv Chick and Juanita.
The Candan – Demir scene made the episode for me. When are we going to get a kiss?
Really hope the disguises end tonight. Anxious to see what comes of the Cemal set up. It’s probably too early to get him out of the picture.
Oyku is a brave little girl. I beg to differ with Cemal. I think Oyku takes after her dad, not her mom. Demir doesn’t back down from a confrontation or a challenge. Asu, on the other hand, reaches for a drink and runs away.
I noticed a promo for ‘Buscando a Frida’ in last night’s show. So we have two shows coming pronto. Maybe the game show is ending soon and so is Hija?
