Wow, dondi356, you've been hit with two sad recaps in a row. I on the other hand really lucked out on Tuesday, recapping the episode where Cemal and Asu find they've been scammed. I plan to recap tonight's episode, but I doubt I'll be that lucky this time.

Somehow, dondi356, you've managed to produce yet another splendid recap in spite of how depressing the episode was. I greatly appreciated how complete your coverage was, and I especially loved all your parenthetical asides.

I found some things about last night's episode hard to believe. For example, why wouldn't two experienced crooks look for and disable surveillance cameras? Also, Asu takes the money from Cemal's wallet and says she's going to Germany. Are we to believe that Cemal carries around that much money?

Speaking of money, I have a vague memory of Ugur saying to Demir that they can afford to leave Istanbul for a while because they have a lot of money. Perhaps I hallucinated this? Surely they don't still have the jewels they stole, do they?

novelera, I too wish the writers had chosen a less ominous problem than an incurable disease. My one glimmer of hope is that Dr. Ihsan said that they were working on a cure. They don't have it yet, but perhaps before the novela is over.... Then again, this is a real disease, and as far as I know there still is not a cure. So I doubt they'd claim one has been found. :-(

Rgv Chick, I totally agree with your disgust at Asu's cruel way of leaving Oyku!

Hija

Thanks, everyone for your kind words and your comments. I think we are in for a sad stretch of episodes. Get ready, Juanita.

Asu and Cemal are quite a pair. Their selfishness and cruelty know no bounds.

At least Oyku can depend on Candan and probably Mufide for support.

And speaking of Mufide, what happens to that poor woman when she finds out the truth about Ugur’s “work”.

I think the editors have struck again. I also found the Jilet caper confusing for the same reasons, novelera. And we will never know if Sunger was in on the set up. I had to go back and listen to Cemal with Shady Guy. I wondered who they were talking about at first.

Maybe Demir and Ugur still have some money left from the first job they did for Sunger?

This show is based on a Korean drama and the girl has the same illness.

Dumb and Dumber, lol Rgv Chick.

Todo por mi hija - #47 - p 1 de 3

Asu packing her suitcase. She gets up to leave, opens the door, hesitates, then closes the door behind her and leaves.

A guy comes by and locks the back of the truck where Demir and Ugur are hiding. The truck starts up. "We're almost out of here," says a somewhat relieved Ugur.

Asu is in a taxi. The cab driver asks where she wants to go. Her mind is elsewhere. Finally she answers, "Far from here. Take me to the airport."

Oyku is walking, lugging her suitcase. We now learn what Asu's note to her said: "Oyku, I failed. I couldn't be who I'm not. I tried, but I couldn't. I couldn't care for you or me. I couldn't be your friend, let alone your mother. Forget me. Go to your father. He loves you more than anyone else could love you." Oyku arrives at Demir's house. She rings the bell. And again. No answer. She knocks at the door. Papá. Papá? She looks in the window, then bangs on the window. She tries another window.

The scene shifts to Mufide's. Oyku has come there when no one responded at Demir's house. Mufide makes a phone call. No answer. She makes a dessert for Oyku. She tells Oyku that she tried to call her father. Suddenly, there's a knock at the door. Speak of the devil, says Mufide. Oyku runs to open the door. Oops. It's the police. They ask Mufide whether she's Ugur's mother, and they ask her to accompany them to the police station. She doesn't understand why. They tell her that Ugur and Demir are wanted by the police for robbery. Mufide is sure there must be a mistake. Then she more or less collapses.

In the truck, Ugur and Demir are beginning to argue and to get on each other's nerves.

Cemal asks Jilet how he and his men could let Demir and Ugur get away. Jilet says he doesn't know. He assures Cemal that he's looking for them, and so are the police. And what about the diamonds? asks Cemal. Jilet gives him a look indicating that he doesn't have them. Cemal is even more upset. "I don't believe it! We lost the diamonds!"

Candan turns on the TV just in time to see the news. She hears about the robbery and sees the photos of Demir and Ugur. She's so stunned that she drops her tea cup. "Demir? What are you doing?" she asks. Her phone rings. The caller is said to be Mufide, but it's Oyku, using Mufide's phone. She tells Candan that she's at the police station with Mufide. Candan tells her not to leave, she'll be right over to get her.

The police officer tells Mufide that he didn't mean to upset her, but that this is not her son's first offense. He has even spent time in prison. Mufide doesn't understand how this is possible. Ugur works so hard. The officer bluntly tells her, "Your son is a thief. He's been lying to you all this time."

Someone at the police station says that they've investigated, and Oyku's mother has left the country. Oyku is asked whether she has any other relative besides her mother and father. Oyku shakes her head no. Mufide speaks up, "I'm her grandmother. I'll take care of her." Oyku hugs her, but they tell Mufide that she has to be a blood relative. Oyku is told that the social service will come there for her tomrrow.

Still in the truck with Ugur, Demir is increasingly upset. "I don't want to be here. I'm worried about Oyku. Did she take her medicine?"

Candan arrives at the police station. She hugs Oyku and asks what the police said. Oyku tells her that they say Demir committed a crine. And your mother? Candan asks. I don't know, Oyku replies. Candan tells Oyku that she should come with her.

The truck stops at a gas station. The driver tells the attendant to fill it up and then goes into the station's small convenience store. Ugur wants to get out to go to the bathroom. They argue, but finally both Ugur and Demir leave the truck. Ugur heads for the bathroom, while Demir goes to the store and buys a telephone card.

Todo por mi hija - #47 - p 2 de 3

As he's paying for the phone card, Demir sees a newspaper with a prominent headline "Intense search for the thieves" and photos of the two robbers. Demir goes to a public phone outside the convenience store and tries to call Asu. No answer. Ugur wants to call his mother. He and Demir argue, but eventually Ugur does call. No answer. Demir decides that Asu is drunk, and he's very worried about Oyku's meds.

Candan learns that Asu has abandoned Oyku. She also sees that Oyku's jacket has a broken zipper. Oyku says that Asu could sew it. Candan says, "I'll sew it when we get back." Candan's phone rings. It's Demir. Candan is silent. She apparently doesn't want either Oyku or the police to hear or know he's calling. Candan, say something! says Demir. Candan moves away from the others and asks "Where are you? Do you know where we are? They're going to send Oyku to an orphanage." Demir asks where Asu is.She tells him that Asu has left, and they're coming to take Oyku soon. "The best thing you can do is come back and turn yourself in. Set an example for Oyku. That's the least you can do for her."

The call ends. Ugur sees the look on Demir's face and asks what happened. Demir tells him that Asu abandoned Oyku. Ugur tells him they have to get back on the truck, it's about to leave. Demir replies, "We have to go back." "Are you out of your mind?" Ugur asks. Demir replies, "How far would we get if we leave your mother and Oyku behind?" This makes Ugur pause, but he's terrified. We're lost, Demir. What would we do if we go back? Demir says "We should say that Jilet put us up to this, he set us up to settle an old score."

Candan walks out of the police station with Mufide and Oyku. "You really didn't know?" she asks Mufide. "How could I have known?" replies Mufide.

Cemal comes to see a guy we've seen before but I don't know who he is. Cemal tells the guy that he wants to find Demir and Ugur, and he asks the guy whether he has any idea where they are. The guy says all he knows is that the police are looking for them. He adds, "If I were them, I'd leave Istanbul quickly." The guy asks Cemal why he's looking for them. Cemal tells him "I want to make them pay for what they did to me." "So you want to kick them while they're down," replies the guy. But he then agrees to tell Cemal if he learns anything. Cemal then asks "Where is Suner? You know this." The guy says, You mean Sunger? Yes.

Demir and Ugur try to hitch a ride. They argue. Ugur starts to walk away. Demir succeeds in getting a car to stop, and he yells to Ugur to come. They get into the car. The driver, alone in the car, asks them where they're going. When they tell him Istanbul, he lets them know they're in luck. That's where he's heading, too. He introduces himself as Amhmed. Ugur tells him his name is Umit, and Demir introduces himself as Ozgur. Not long after they are riding together, the driver asks "Have I seen you somewhere? Your faces look familiar." They say they don't know him, but he insists that he's seen them before. Then it comes to him: "I've seen you on TV! You're on a TV program!"
Ugur admits that yes, they have a TV program, and he goes on and on as only Ugur can. FF>>

Mufide goes to lie down and tells Candan to take care of Oyku. Candan asks Oyku if she's hungry, but Oyku replies, "Candan, tell me the truth. Will I have to go to an orphanage?" Candan says it's possible, at least for a while, but she adds that some orphanages are good. Oyku will be able to play with the other children. "I know," says Oyku. "I snuck into an orphanage once. I'm just asking."

Todo por mi hija - #47 - p 3 de 3

The car carrying Demir and Ugur arrives in Istanbul. The driver lets them out of the car and asks them to remember what they've said. Ugur tells him, "You'll have the main role." "Gracias, amigos," says the man, and drives off. Demir says to Ugur, "He's a good guy, and we deceived him anyway."

Mufide is not coming to eat, she's still in shock. Candan assures Oyku, "You can tell me how you feel. I'm here for you.

Demir and Ugur are following Sunger. They finally approach him and ask why he set them up. He said he did not set them up. He would have been foolish to do so, since if the police caught you, you wouldn't know that I didn't set you up (and thus rat out Sunger to the police). Sunger says that right now, the most important thing is to find a hiding place for them. He has one where they can stay for a while. He leads them to an abandoned house. He'll send them food, and he'll be back in a few days. Demir tells him, "We're here to solve the problem, not to hide." Sunger says he knows that. Demir then asks, "How did Jilet get out of prison?" Sunger replies, "Cemal helped him." "Now I understand everything," says Demir. [What I don't understand is whether Sunger is being very nice to them because he's a good person, or because he feels guilty for having inadvertently caused them to be in trouble, or because he's really in cahoots with Jilet and/or Cemal.]

Candan asks Oyku, "Why didn't you tell me Asu had left?" Instead of answering the questions directly, Oyku says, "I don't even know why she looked for me. She didn't love me. What did I do to her?" Candan assures Oyku that this was in no way her fault. She tells her, "Your mother doesn't know what love is. She doesn't know how to love herself." Oyku continues, "I don't understand why she didn't love me. I was happy living with my father. I wish I hadn't left him. He promised me he wouldn't steal while we were together. If I hadn't chosen her, none of this would have happened. I wish I hadn't listened." "Listened to whom?" Candan asks. Oyku gives one of her enigmatic looks that tells us "this is the end of the episode."

HIJA

Juanita, you've given us another stellar recap to savor with so much detail, thank you!

Have we seen the last of Asu? I hope so but I wish she would have had a harsh anvil to take with her.

It was heartbreaking to see Oyku lugging that big bag all the way to Demir's house. It was inevitable that she would end up at Mufide's house...which led to another heartbreaking moment--the cops coming and telling Mufide about Ugur and Demir; I feared she would have a heart attack. And no one has thought of Oyku's meds...GRRRR!

I thought the writer's attempt to lighten things up with Ugur and Demir arguing senselessly was so out of place. They're tugging at our hearts with Oyku and Mufide and then they expect us to laugh...just doesn't work for me.

Finally things are not going so well for Cemal, but how long will that last? So Demir and Ugur have the diamonds? If they are smart, they can use that to their advantage.

Juanita, I'm as perplexed about Sunger as you are. I'm finding it hard to believe that Sunger had no clue about Cemal and Jilet setting up Demir and Ugur, but I suppose it could be possible. Crossing my fingers that Cemal doesn't find Sunger before da boys have a chance to return the favor of setting them up for a BIG fall...hopefully the last.

Dondi, you kept warning us that Oyku was bound to spend some time at the orphanage...but nooooo! Though I'm glad for that visit Oyku made to the orphanage early on and saw that it wasn't as bad as she thought.

With all this darkness, I feel compelled to look for some brightness. All this mess has brought Candan closer to Oyku. I wish she had told the cops that she is Oyku's aunt, but she is too honest to do something like that. And I think Oyku going to the orphanage will give Demir that push he needs to make the final exit from his former life as a fraud.

So someone did talk Oyku into choosing Asu over Demir, but who? Cemal? I don't think it was Asu because Asu was just as surprised tha Oyku chose to live with her. Hopefully, Oyku won't continue her silence and let us know tonight.

Thanks, again Juanita!

Thanks very much, Rgv Chick, for your very perceptive and appreciative comments. I too found the bickering between Ugur and Demir annoying, and not in the least amusing. I suppose, though, that given Demir's worries about Oyku and Ugur's about his mother, both men were perhaps more prone than usual to turn their frustrations and fears into rage.

Yes, it will be interesting to see who Oyku listened to. My guess is it was Cemal. In fact, in my recap, I almost added a parenthetical "I'm looking at you, Cemal" after Candan asked "Listened to whom?" I hope we'll find out tonight, but Telemundo loves to have cliffhangers, especially on Fridays.

hija

Thanks so much, Juanita. Terrific recap! It was hard to say which person I felt the most sorry for: Oyku or Mufide. Probably Mufide since she had NO idea of Ugur's criminal past. And, really heartbreaking, Oyku blames herself for choosing Asu and supposedly putting Demir back into a life of crime.

I guess I wasn't paying much attention. I hadn't realized that the cliffhanger was that someone convinced Oyku to choose Asu. Could be Cemal, but I was under the impression that he was staying away to let Asu and Oyku bond, since Oyku didn't want him around.

The caper is still confusing. I'm beginning not to trust my own ears! I thought Jilet said he was taking the diamonds and giving them back to the authorities. That would have made some sort of sense since the whole purpose was to have Demir and Ugur captured.

And, since Sunger set it up, it would seem to have been out of "the man has a code" style for him. They entered a sort of mansion and the diamonds were in a safe. If Jilet planned to give them back, as I thought I heard, wouldn't he have searched Demir and Ugur? But I do like the idea that they somehow have them in order to return them. Sigh. I think you are right, dondi, and the scissors were busy concerning the robbery.

I think Sunger is genuine and has them stashed in a safe place.

Hija

Fabulous recap, Juanita! Especially enjoy the detail you include. Very interesting and perceptive comments by Rgv Chick and novelera.

I felt bad for Mufide at the police station. Oyku looked so guilty knowing the truth. Disheartening how she blames herself for Demir’s poor choice.

The typical Demir-Ugur bickering did seem out of place in this episode.

novelera, the Jilet caper bothers me, too. I take it something was lost in translation. Jilet said something about turning in the thieves and diamonds, but he must have been speaking figuratively and not literally. How often do the police arrive at a crime scene to find the thieves and evidence gift wrapped for them with no witnesses in sight?

I want to think Sunger was used by Cemal and Jilet and he’s going to help Demir and Ugur. I also think our guys still have the gems. Maybe they can find a way to plant them on Jilet and tip off the cops.

Who did Oyku listen to? The obvious choice is disgusting Cemal but is it too obvious? The only other person I could think of who would do such a thing would be Mu-rat. He would like to separate Candan from Oyku and Demir. But that's a longshot--when would he have spoken with Oyku?

Hopefully Oyku won't spend much time in the orphanage. Would be nice if she finds the friend she already made there.

I’ll recap tonight. Not sure if it will be up tonight or tomorrow morning.

hija

Many thanks, novelera and dondi356, for your terrific comments.

novelera, I think Cemal agreed not to come to Asu's apartment since Oyku didn't like him and, as you say, he wanted to give Asu and Oyku a chance to bond. But he seems to have the ability to turn up just about anywhere, and it's quite possible that he found a way to run into Oyku. And he can be a very smooth talker--Candan was certainly impressed with him before she found out more about him.

I too am confused by the diamonds caper. Like you, novelera, I thought I heard Jilet say something about showing himself to be a "good citizen" by turning in the robbers and the diamonds. It's possible he just got flustered when he confronted Demir and Ugur, or was so pleased that his revenge was working as he had planned that he simply forgot momentarily about the diamonds.

One of the things I liked least about this episode was Oyku's blaming herself for Demir's return to stealing.

dondi356, your suggestion that Mu-rat was the one who urged Oyku to choose Asu is quite plausible except, as you note, it's not at all clear when he would have had an opportunity to speak with Oyku. FWIW, my money is still on Cemal.

I really like your idea that Demir and Ugur still have the diamonds and may be able to plant them on Jilet and call the police. Turnabout is fair play, they say. :-)

Hija #48 part 1

Oyku says, I wish I wouldn’t have listened to them. Candan asks, listened to who? Why did you say that? Oyku realizes she let that slip. She quickly recovers saying, no reason.

Sunger hands Ugur money and tells him to use it wisely. His men will bring food. Are you really on our side, asks Ugur? Of course, he says, if you get caught, I am at risk. Sunger leaves. Cemal screwed us again, says Demir. Ugur makes tea. He wonders how could Cemal do this to them—getting Jilet out of prison and planning this. He wasn’t like this before. (gosh, hasn’t he been watching this show?)

Demir says he needs to see Oyku. Ugur promises If we make it out of this, he will find a job. Demir is annoyed because Ugur is not listening to him. He raises his voice, why are you talking like this? My daughter is going to an orphanage! My daughter needs me, don’t you understand? Ugur says don’t get mad; we will think of something. Demir shouts and throws his hat, how can I not get mad? Ugur gets an idea. He promises Demir he will see Oyku. They will go together. Demir thinks it’s ridiculous. How can we leave the house? Our faces are everywhere. Ugur says listen to me, we’ll get a phone card and I will call someone I know, and then… and then what, asks Demir? It will be beautiful, says Ugur, you won’t believe it.

Candan puts Oyku to bed and puts her clothes away in the big yellow bag. She finds Asu’s letter and reads it. Ay no Asu, how could you do this to a child? Candan looks over at the sleeping child and says, I wish I could keep you here, Oyku. I wish you could stay with me. She folds the letter and puts it back in the bag, then sits back and starts thinking.

Oyku isn’t hungry at breakfast. The doorbell rings; Social Services has come. Candan asks for five minutes. Ok, they will wait outside. Candan tells Oyku get ready, it’s time. Mufide and Candan walk out with Oyku. Mufide wishes Oyku did not have to go. Oyku comforts Mufide by saying, I’m not going far you can take a bus to see me. Mufide says she will visit. Candan gets in the van with Oyku and off they go.

Ugur and Demir are waiting in an alleyway for Mehmet. Ugur assures Demir they will be able to get into the orphanage easily once he brings what he asked. Mehmet shows up with two bags. He reminds Mehmet he can’t tell anyone he saw them. Ugur pays Mehmet and he leaves. Demir wants to know what’s in the bag. Ugur pulls out a big red clown nose followed by a giant clown shoe. Demir understands the plan now. He thinks it’s a good idea. They hug and laugh.

Ouku and Candan are at the intake meeting. The director seems very nice. She says Oyku will continue her schoolwork there. The case worker comes in and tells Oyku her things have been organized, how about going to the game room for a while?

Oyku goes over to Candan and sits on her lap. Candan tries to be encouraging and reassures Oyku. She tells her, don’t be scared. You are not alone. Call me whenever you want and I’ll visit. I’ll bring Mufide, too. Oyku asks, is my dad is going to visit me when he comes back? Of course, answers Candan, don’t worry. Your dad won’t leave you alone in here. He doesn’t know anything yet, but he will come as soon as he finds out. Oyku says if you see him or talk to him, tell him I want to see him. Of course. They hug and kiss before Oyku goes off to the game room.

dondi356

Hija #48 part 2

Candan turns to the director and says, I want to adopt Oyku, but I don’t know how. Would you help me? What do I have to do?

Oyku enters the game room. It’s filled with kids. Oyku is introduced to the group. We see Oyku’s friend Asye is there. Ayse waves to Oyku. Oyku goes over to her. Ayse says, I’m surprised but happy to see you. Oyku looks a little sad, but Ayse tells her don’t worry, you will get used to it. I’ll help you. Oyku is appreciative. Ayse introduces Oyku to the others.

Sunger is at work in his shop. There’s a knock at the door and Sunger sends his guy to see who it is. It’s Cemal and he wants to see Sunger. The guy says Sunger is not here and starts to close the door. Cemal stops him and says, just tell him "Konak Esmirna" and he will understand. The guy tells Sunger, he said his name is Cemal and Konak Esmirna. By the look on Sunger’s face this must be serious.

Oyku looks melancholy. Ayse comes over to ask if she is ok. Oyku says she’s fine but doesn’t look it. A worker comes into the room and announces, attention kids, our volunteer entertainment is here. Let’s meet downstairs, we are about to begin. The kids are cheering and eager to go. Ayse is excited, too and grabs Oyku to go. Oyku doesn’t feel like going but Ayse persists. You will like it, they do magic and funny stuff. You will laugh. Asye pulls Oyku along with her.

Sunger wants to know why Cemal has come. He tells Sunger, I know everything. I know about the bronze statue you stole from the Esmirna museum a long time ago. I know where it is and who did the robbery and that this case hasn’t been closed. Sunger asks what Cemal wants. He threatens Sunger. In return for his silence, he wants to know where Demir and Ugur are. Cemal caps it by saying, is it worth going to jail for life for those bastards? Where are they? Will Sunger cave into the threat? We don’t see his answer.

Two clowns are entertaining the kids. Oyku is sitting off by herself, but she is looking on and smiling. Demir makes his way over to her while Ugur entertains the others. He brings her a lollypop and speaks with a funny voice. What’s wrong little girl? Don’t you want to play? No, she doesn’t; she would rather watch. But she does take the lollypop.

Clown Demir thinks something is bothering her. He says, you can tell me because clowns are children’s best friends. He can keep a secret. Oyku looks a little exasperated and says no thanks, she’s fine. Demir says, ah, you miss your dad! Oyku quickly responds, that’s none of your business! Demir gives a slight reprimand, you shouldn’t speak to a clown like that. I could tell your dad you are misbehaving.

Oyku questions, what makes you think you will see my father? Because clowns can perform miracles. Really? she says. Demir pulls little snow globe of the Little Prince out of his sleeve. Oyku is thrilled, it’s her favorite character from her favorite book. I know, says Demir in his own voice. He takes off his nose and gets close. Oyku takes a good look and says, Dad? Demir whispers, that’s right, princess. They hug. He warns her not to let anyone notice. They hold hand under the table.

Oyku says she was worried she would never see him again. Demir reminds her that he will never leave her. She tells him she is really sorry she chose Asu and left him. He tells her not to worry; he’s not mad. He knows how much Oyku loves him and she must have had a good reason. Oyku says nothing and Demir continues, but we won’t talk about it now. Let’s enjoy this moment, ok?

dondi356

Hija #48 part 3

Demir asks about her meds. She tells him she ran out of one of them. Now she is worried about getting sick. No, no…he promises he will bring more tomorrow. Oyku wants to know if he can get her out of here; she wants to go live with him again. Yes, he will but it will take time. We need to be patient. We are strong. Be strong. A worker comes over and encourages Oyku to join the group and then leaves. Is that Ugur, Oyku asks? Yep, it’s the perfect disguise for him! Ugur runs over to Oyku and exclaims, we found a fugitive! Ugur and Demir carry Oyku over to join the group.

Everyone is enjoying the entertainment, including Oyku, but the show has come to an end. Oyku asks, can you come back? Ugur says of course, they will be back! Oyku runs up to Demir as he leaves and says please don’t go. He tells her not to worry; he will be back tomorrow with her meds. Promise. He puts his clown nose on her.

I missed her so much, she grew taller, Demir says to Ugur. Demir is grateful to him for thinking of this. But he has to go back tomorrow with the meds. How can he do it? Ugur says they can’t go back as clowns so they will find a different disguise to use.

The guys get back to the hideout. Demir says there’s someone in the house. Flashback: we see Demir put a small string across the bottom of the door that would break if someone opened it. Now the string is broken. Was it Sunger? They can’t take the chance and leave quickly. Good choice, because we see Cemal inside waiting with a gun. Ugur wonders who else could be in the house. Demir figures it’s Cemal; he’s capable of anything. They need to find another place to stay but Ugur is hungry and wants to eat.

Candan is out getting coffee with Mu-rat. She tells him, Oyku doesn’t have mother or a father and she’s sick. Candan feels so bad. How could can a person do this to their own child? Her mother abandoned her, and her father is an irresponsible fugitive.

Mur-rat has been listening and now speaks. You’re right, this is an unfortunate situation for Oyku. But she’s fortunate to have you. What would have happened if you’d never met her and if she didn’t have you? Candan agrees but says there’s nothing else she can do. Mu-rat encourages Candan, don’t say that. You’re not going to abandon her. That’s important, don’t forget that.

She tells Mu-rat that she asked at the orphanage about adopting Oyku. Really? interjects Mu-rat. They said it would be difficult because I’m young and single. It’s easier for married people. Leaving her there that is what hurts the most.

The little hamster wheel is turning in Mu-rat’s head. He says Candan, I have an offer but I don’t want you to take it the wrong way. Since you have to be married to adopt Oyku, if you want… we could… I mean… forget it. It’s a ridiculous idea. Candan says, wait. I think I know what you mean. You’re saying if we get married out of convenience, we could adopt her. Is that what you meant?

Yes, Mu-rat says. That’s what he was proposing (no pun intended). He says we are aware of her situation and she needs medical treatment. We have the hospital. Candan thinks this is wonderful and she grabs Mu-rat’s hand. He looks at this (I wonder what he is thinking). She launches into a list of things. Let’s start gathering information so we can start the process and then the marriage document and then we can submit the adoption request so she can stay with me. Mu-rat just looks at her and remains quiet as she says this.

Hija #48 part 4

Suddenly, she snaps out of it and takes her hand away. She didn’t mean to force him, and she is sorry for getting so excited. She mentions his family. She didn’t put herself in his shoes. She says, you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to. Mu-rat says don’t be silly, I really want to help you. Besides this was my idea. My parents love you. He continues, no one will know. Everything I do is to make you happy. Thank you so much Murat, says Candan, you are such a good friend. He’s there for support. You’re not alone, he tells her. She’s all smiles. (I’m shaking my head, no, no)

Our clowns go into a restaurant. The server laughs, coming from the circus? The clowns are not amused and give their order. Demir looks over at another patron reading a newspaper. The headline reads: IMMINENT DIPLOMATIC CRISIS. Just then a couple of cops sit at the table behind them. Demir warns Ugur not to look but of course he does and comes face to face, inches away, from one of the cops. Ugur says hello to the cop. Demir calls Ugur an idiot.

The server asks the cops if they caught the diamond thieves yet. No, but they will soon. They are searching all over istambul and all the roads are blocked. They guys decide to get the check and leave. As they go out the door, the cop calls them back, hey, not so fast! The guys turn back. The cop says, you forgot your stuff. Ugur gathers it up and says, God bless you and the entire police force for helping others and making lives safer. Enjoy your meal. Our clowns take off.

Cemal is talking to Sunger on the phone as he pulls up to his building. No one showed up at the house. Did you warn them? No, they have no other place to go and have no money. Cemal left someone there to watch the place. Cemal warns Sunger. Sunger has men out looking, too, and he’s sure they will find Demir and Ugur soon.

Cemal sees Candan closing up shop. Hi, how are you? She’s cold to him. He asks if she’s heard about Demir. Of course she has. Cemal asks if Demir has called her. No, and why would he? Cemal thought he might because of her connection to Oyku. It’s her turn to ask the questions now; do you know where Asu is? She also disappeared without telling anyone. Cemal admits this is true. She abandoned Oyku. He has no idea where she is but he will let Candan know if he hears anything. Candan doubts they will hear from Asu again. Cemal says unfortunately, it’s the children who suffer. Yes, and good night.

The clowns show up at a hostel. They want a room and the clerk wants ID. No room without ID. Demir slaps a pile of bills on the desk and says, here you are, sir.

Candan comes to visit Oyku. How was your first day? Great. Candan has brought a gift. It’s a new coat. It has button instead of zippers. Thank you so much, Candan! Candan tells Oyku, I have news for you. About? I’m getting married. What? Oyku looks troubled. Are you serious, she asks Candan? Well sort of, says Candan. I decided to do it to improve my chances of keeping you. That’s why I am doing it. Oyku asks, who are you marrying? Candan says it's Murat. Oyku has a pained look and says, Murat? (me too, Oyku)

And we are out.

Hija

"The little hamster wheel is turning in Mu-rat’s head", LoL!

OMG, dondi356, you've done it again! I've been in awe of so many of your recaps, and each time I think that you've outdone yourself, you come up with one even more impressive. Like this one!! You've covered everything, including things I missed. I scratched my head about "Konak Esmirna" and was so busy scratching that I didn't notice Cemal's referring to the robbery of a bronze statue from the Esmirna museum.

And yes, I'm always trying to tell the characters to watch the show, but they never listen. Ugur is a case in point, as you indicate in "(gosh, hasn’t he been watching this show?)." That was just one of several asides and observations that I enjoyed. My favorite was "The little hamster wheel is turning in Mu-rat’s head." Perfect! Actually, after last night's episode, I'm wondering whether Mu-rat has been more active in all this than I'd realized. I still don't think that he's the person Oyku regrets having listened to, especially now that she has said "them." But who knows?

Candan has got to be the most naive major character I can remember. It's hard to figure how she can be so intelligent and sensitive and yet so naive at the same time. I too was shaking my head "no no" during her conversation with Mu-rat. Indeed, I bet heads throughout Viewerville were shaking (causing massive wind storms all across the country).

Speaking of intelligent characters, bravo to Demir for putting that very tiny thread across the door. He has clearly seen and learned from some cops and robbers shows.

HIJA

Dondi, you've outdone yourself and that is no easy feat. Thank you for such a splendid recap with so many delicious sides. I have to agree with Juanita that ""The little hamster wheel is turning in Mu-rat’s head." is pure perfection; you could almost actually visualize it.

We finally got a break from all the doom and gloom. I loved watching Demir and Ugur at the orphanage. I think Ugur has found his true calling...maybe this is what they will end up doing, opening up a "clown" business.

Did Demir ever tell Ugur that he set up Jilet to get Ugur out of prison? I don't remember. But, yeah, Ugur should at least know what Cemal is capable of after knowing all that he has done to them up to now.

Demir sure was clever to put that string on the door and I am in awe of his vision; he could actually see the broken string from that distance!! AMAZING!! :-)

I also have to agree with Juanita that Candan is extremely naive. She is so focused on adopting Oyku tha she is not thinking of the implications. It seems to me tha twhen she said, "...she can stay with me." Candan is actually thinking that only she and Oyku will be living together...not Mu-rat. She is in for a BIG surprise if she expects Mu-rat to live elsewhere.

I have another wild idea floating around...could Oyku's grandfather still be alive? We never saw the body or funeral. And if he is alive (by some miracle), he could be another "suspect" of talking to Oyku??? My best obvio bet is still Cemal though.

Wonderful recap, dondi! I join the chorus of appreciation for the "hamster wheel" image.

Well, unless orphanages are different in Turkey than anywhere else, this small sample size surprises me. Everything I've read in autobiographies and fictional accounts makes orphanages seem more like "Lord of the Flies" than this warm, accepting place. I suspect unpleasant places are more the norm. Children whose parents have failed them so badly that they end up in such a place tend to be very, very damaged.

I'm getting impatient for an anvil the size of the Washington Monument to fall on Cemal's head.

Actually, while I hope it doesn't happen, Murat's marriage offer doesn't seem exactly evil. Of course he's hoping the "marriage in name only" would change. But he seems to have loved her for a long time, so offering this isn't necessarily bad. He paid Oyku's hospital bill. Remember back when we thought he wanted Candan's house and/or the valuable painings. The writers haven't seemed to have gone there.

They sure are dragging out the "they" that convinced Oyku to choose Asu in court, aren't they?

Hija

I’m blushing… thank you so very much for the complements! Great comments, too!

A note on Esmirna: It’s the Spanish name for the city of Izmir, aka Smyrna in ancient times.

Candan’s naivete continues to be a major frustration. At least she’s distancing herself from Cemal.

“causing massive wind storms all across the country”, indeed, Juanita! A Candan - Mu-rat union would be a disaster. Agree Rgv Chick, how can Mu-rat say, “no one will know”? Don’t they have to live together? Won’t Social Services check-up? Anyway, I’m betting on Oyku to find a way to stop this. Demir will have to work hard to find his way back into Candan’s graces.

novelera, maybe Mu-rat’s proposal wasn’t blatantly evil, but it is manipulative. What a worm. If he really loves Candan, where is the passion? I feel he’s always looked at her as a good business deal.

I like the clown business idea for Ugur, Rgv Chick.

Yes, odds are it is Cemal who poisoned Oyku’s choice. I imagined him threatening harm if Oyku didn’t choose Asu. But then I began to wonder if he was too obvious a choice and thought of Mu-rat as a longshot. Interesting choice of Sezer, Rgv Chick. He’s another longshot, but I am a believer in the “no death without the physical proof” theory.

Love it how Demir always finds a way to thwart Cemal. For reasons I won’t go into, I have used a similar trick, too.

I was also wondering about the orphanage, novelera. One would expect a Dickensian nightmare, but it seems like Oyku is in a very nice place. Demir, Cemal and Asu are products of that system, too, and flashbacks suggest their experience was different. They are damaged adults. I guess the writers are giving Oyku a break. I’ll accept it.

“I'm getting impatient for an anvil the size of the Washington Monument to fall on Cemal's head.” Yes, novelera!

deb, it’s good to see you! I miss your recaps and comments. What are you watching these days? Still watching “Osman”?

Thanks again, everyone.

Dondi- I thought I would check out Ertugrul, oh wait, I've finished the first season and am off on the 2nd (how did that happen), aside from each show being fun to watch, (with some very powerful moments sprinkled about), I've found this history, fascinating, their origins are the Oghuz tribes from central asia.

I now know who and what the Templar knights were, and the Mongols, wow, what a dark chapter in the history of man.

the very nature of their nomad ways makes everything about them unique from the rugs they make to the tents, bows, swords, thumb rings...

the online videos are all good,

(I finished the first season of Osman, and they are posting the second season as it's released but the backstory of those characters is all in Ertugrul).

Hija

you guys are doing an outstanding job recapping, can't help but read along, thanks, (if only they all had swords).

hija

Deb, so nice to hear from you!! Maybe someday we'll be watching the same novela again.

Yep, I'd love for Demir to have a sword to use on Cemal! And Oyku could at least have one hack at the school mean girl: Ilayda.
