Hija #52 part 1

They promised “momentos impactantes”. Let’s see if they delivered.

Ugur asks, what did Cemal say? He wants me to turn myself in, answers Demir. What will I do without my daughter? Ugur promises they will save her. Demir asks how will we save her? We don’t even know where she is. Ugur will get a car and they can figure this out. Demir thinks this is a good start. Ugur warns Demir not to do anything stupid while he is gone.

Demir is getting impatient. He looks outside and sees a colorful van pull up. Ugur gets out; he’s wearing a long beard as a disguise. Demir sneaks out past the desk clerk and out to Ugur. How can we go unnoticed in this, he wonders? It’s all they had, says Ugur.

Demir and Ugur show up at the tea house. The owner stops them. You two are wanted by the police. I don’t want trouble. Get out. Just then they spot Jilet’s guy. He takes off and catch him outside. Demir slugs him and asks, where is my daughter? The guy claims he knows nothing so Demir pulls out the gun and places it on the guy’s face. This is your last chance, where is my daughter?

Jilet calls Oyku to come eat. She doesn’t want to and says, I need to do my homework and brush my teeth. I have school in the morning. Jilet say shut up. Ok but Oyku has one last thing to tell him, you are a really ugly man. Cemal can’t help but laugh. Jilet says, she’s like her father. Oyku says you will not hurt Demir because you’re evil and you always fail.

Jilet continues the conversation. So, your dad is good? If I were you, I’d stay and orphan. Living in the orphanage is better than living with a criminal. Oyku won’t be quiet. Jilet threatens to punish her. Cemal orders Oyku to speak only when spoken to. Oyku says she needs to use the bathroom. Henchman insists on taking her and waits outside the door. Oyku notices a small window up high and gathers containers to fashion steps and manages to get out through the window. She is careful not to let the men outside see her. She takes off.

Cemal asks for Oyku and gets up to see. He bangs on the door and opens it. She’s escaped! Oyku runs through the woods. Quickly! The men split up to find her. Cemal shouts for her. Oyku! Oyku! Oyku falls and Cemal catches up to her. You’re just like your mother, he says! He throws her over his shoulder and takes her back.

Demir and Ugur are driving. It’s around here somewhere. They spot a cabin and pull over. Demir pulls out his gun. Demir has his gun and Ugur picks up a stick. They bust in but no one is there. Damn it! He lied to us! He gave us the wrong address! And we let him go! How will I find her now, asks Demir? We’ll think of something, says Ugur.

Back at the hideout, Jilet is concerned; they haven’t heard from Demir. What if he doesn’t come through? Cemal is certain he will. Jilet asks again, what if he doesn’t? Jilet taunts Oyku, hey I think your dad isn’t coming for you. Oyku thinks he’s lying; she is sure her father will come. Jilet asks Cemal again, what if he doesn’t come? Jilet wants the door closed. He doesn’t want to see Oyku; he doesn’t like the way she looks at him.

Jilet’s guy from the tea house calls him. He says that Demir and Ugur found him and beat him. Jilet asks what Demir wanted. His daughter’s location. And what did you tell him? He put a gun to my head. I gave the wrong address and I sent them to the forest. Jilet wants the address so he can send the police to catch them but then he hangs up on the guy. Jilet is convinced that Demir and Ugur won’t give themselves up. Cemal is still certain this will work out for them.

Hija #52 part 2

Demir and Ugur are on the road again. Demir is losing hope and wants to go to the police. Ugur tells Demir to be patient; he has his contacts out and he’s waiting for a call.

Ouku turns chairs around to make a bed. She wants to sleep and asks the henchie to leave. No way, you won’t fool me again, he says. Oyku notices the guy’s phone on his chair.

Demir is distraught. Again, he says he wants to go to the police and turn himself in. He asks Ugur to stay on the outside and look after Oyku. He feels he has no other option. Ugur refuses to give in.

Oyku can’t sleep. She asks the henchie to get her some water. Forget it, he says. He’s not moving. Go to sleep. She nags him about the water. He eventually gets up and tells her he’s going to the bathroom. He locks her in.

She grabs the phone from the chair and dials. Demir answers. Dad? Where are you? I can’t talk for long—You’re coming for me, right? Unfortunately, Oyku doesn’t know where she is. and she can’t send her location because it is an old phone. Demir asks her, do you remember what’s around there? Big posts, a cabin, and woods. Did you notice anything on the way there? She thinks hard. Yes, she remembers a sign for Tekinler Village. That’s great says Demir. He’s coming back I have to go, says Oyku. Oyku puts the phone back and pretends she’s asleep.

Demir figures out where Oyku is.

Jilet says he’s done being patient. Let’s kill the girl and get it over with. Cemal says don’t be stupid. You are not going to touch her. Well, well, well, has she won your heart, asks Jilet? Cemal gets angry and says he has never hurt a child. Demir will turn himself in. Jilet doesn’t care. He’s willing to kill Oyku.

Demir and Ugur have found the place and park. Demir has his gun ready. Ugur says we can’t go by ourselves. Well we can’t call for backup! Ugur opens the van. It’s filled with all kinds of party supplies. Balloons and stuff. Ugur finds a bag with fireworks.

They sneak up on the house. We see Cemal and Jilet asleep. They start the rescue. Ugur and Demir light the fireworks and break windows. They toss the fireworks into the cabin. (Ave Maria is the background music for this scene. An interesting choice.) Chaos ensues. There are explosions all around and lots of smoke. Jilet, Cemal and henchie take cover. Demir enters and finds Oyku through the smoke. They leave through a window.

When all is quiet and the smoke clears, Cemal realizes the Oyku is gone. Our group make a run back to the van. But Cemal catches up to them. Demir and Cemal have guns drawn. Cemal tells Demir, your luck has finally run out. You are going to the police station. Jilet show up and grabs Oyku away. Demir drops his gun. Cemal tells Oyku her dad will go to the police station and turn himself in. He tells Demir that he will drop Oyku off at Candan’s as soon as he turns himself in.

Cut to the guys in front of the police station with Cemal watching from his car, smiling. Jilet has Oyku in his car waiting for the call to let her go. Our guys enter the station. We see Oyku banging on Candan’s door. Candan opens the door and is shocked to see Oyku. A crying Oyku flies into her arms.

Demir tells the officer, I’m Demir Goktur and I’m here to turn myself in.

Hija #52 part 3

In the next scene we see Demir, Candan and Oyku arriving at Demir’s house. They are very happy. Welcome home, princess, says Demir. Let’s get inside. See, I finally brought you home; you didn’t think I would, did you? Oyku missed her house so much. They all sit on the couch. Oyku knew Demir would rescue her but she was scared. He reminds her he promised he would rescue her. Everything will be alright now. Oyku asks Candan if this is a dream? (that’s what I want to know!) No, it’s not a dream and they tickle her to prove it. Oyku asks, do you know another reason I think I’m dreaming? No, what? Oyku happily says it’s because you are married. Eh, yes, it’s true, Candan says, I can’t believe it either. We see the ring on Candan’s finger! (WHATis going on here!)

We go back 15 days earlier…

At the prison, we see Demir pacing rapidly and Ugur trying to keep up with him. Ugur tries to calm him down. No luck. They have been there for a week already. Demir says, this is the first time he has felt this desperate. They will get sentenced tomorrow. He laments he won’t be there to watch Oyku grow up or to help her when her illness worsens. Ugur reminds Demir that he left the diamonds at Cemal’s. What if we go to the police? Demir feels he can’t take the chance that Cemal will get out of it and hurt Oyku.

Oyku is back at the orphanage. She is in the library, reading The Little Prince. Ayse goes over to her. How are you? Oyku says she’s fine. Oyku hasn’t been back to school. Ayse tells her she will eventually have to go back whether she likes it or not. Ayse is worried about Oyku. She has been trying to talk to her for days. You were kidnapped, Ayse says. You went through a lot and must have a lot to say. Who kidnapped you? Oyku says she doesn’t know, and she doesn’t feel like talking about it.

Suddenly, Oyku drops her book and stares. She’s having an attack. Ayse calls her name but Oyku doesn’t respond. She faints.

We see Candan rushing to the emergency room and she asks for Oyku. She heads to the room. The orphanage worker is there. She tells Candan that Oyku fainted. She hasn’t eaten in days. We couldn’t wake her; that’s why we called you. We brought her here after you told us about her illness. (the orphanage wasn’t informed about Oyku’s medical history?) The worker says Oyku is feeling a bit better now but she has been upset since her father was arrested. I’m sure she will be happy to see you.

Oyku tells Candan she was so scared she woke up in the hospital. Candan asks for some time alone with Oyku. Are you feeling better, she asks? Yes, but when is my dad coming for me? You don’t have to hide it from me, Candan. My dad isn’t coming back. He will be back, Candan assures Oyku. We can visit him, she says. No, I only want to see my dad at home, not in prison. Candan promises that everything will work out, but she looks worried. How about if we call your father? I’ll call the lawyer and ask permission.

Demir gets called out of the cell. He enters the warden’s office. Someone’s on the line for you. It’s Candan. Demir is alarmed. Did something happen to Oyku? Calm down and listen. We are at the hospital. Oyku had an episode but she’s fine now. She’s been stressed out and hasn’t been eating. I thought if she spoke to you that would help her mood.

Oyku takes the phone, hi dad. Demir has tears in his eyes. He says he heard something happened. Probably because you’re not eating. How did you know, asks Oyku? I’m your dad and I know everything. You need to eat and take your medicine. Please take care of yourself until we meet again. Demir has to end the call. They only gave special permission because of the circumstances. Demir promises that everything will work out and then the warden disconnects the call. Oyku is crying.

Hija #52 part 4

Dr. Ihsan comes in and looks at Oyku’s chart. It looks good. You’re getting better, he tells Oyku. Do what the nurse says and eat, and we will discharge you soon. Ihsan wants to talk to Candan about medications and such. Candan says she will be right back.

Ihsan does not have good news. The illness is progressing faster than we hoped. It’s likely due to stress. Candan asks, what can be done? The only things we can do is continue the meds and cheer her up. If she continues to be stressed, she will have more episodes.

That night, Candan is sleeping by Oyku’s bedside. She gets a call from the lawyer. He has some good news. There have been significant findings in Demir’s case. Candan steps outside the room to talk. The police examined the records from the embassy and the description and prints don’t match Demir and Ugur. The robbery investigation will continue. It’s likely they will be absolved tomorrow in court. That’s great!

At the courthouse, Demir and Ugur are absolved of the crime due to a lack of evidence. They are free to go! Demir goes over to Candan and hugs her. He thanks her for everything. For the lawyer. For taking care of Oyku. No need to thank her; she did it all for Oyku. Candan hopes that Demir realizes he has to start over; he can’t go on like this. Yes, yes, he does. Ugur is overcome with gratitude for what Candan has done and he rushes to kiss her. Enough, she says. Demir tells her, after we sign the paperwork, let’s go see Oyku. On the way out, he tells Ugur to go to the police station and report Cemal.

Cemal gets the call that the guys were freed. Tell me it’s a joke! Damn your luck Demir!

Ugur shows up at his mom’s house. A quick prayer and he knocks on the door. Mufide answers. He goes to kiss her hand, but she pulls away. She asks him to leave. She never wants to see him again. Don’t say that, Ugur says. I was absolved. You are the first person I came to see. Mufide is very upset. How can her heart heal after so many lies? She is embarrassed and Ugur’s father must be turning in his grave! Ugur regrets everything and is very ashamed. Mufide does not give in. Leave this house! You are an embarrassment to this family! She closes the door leaving Ugur crying outside.

Demir and Candan are with the orphanage director. Demir is grateful for everything they have done for Oyku. He is ready to take her home. The director tells him, I’m sorry but you can’t take Oyku now. Her mother still has custody. But her mother left her; she can stay with me, right? The director informs Demir that he has to go back to court to reestablish his parental rights. You have to show her mother abandoned her and prove you can properly care for her. He doesn’t understand. Demir gets upset and raises his voice. I’m her father and I’m here, why can I take her? This is ridiculous! Candan asks him to calm down. She asks the director, can we see Oyku? Of course.

The worker informs Oyku she has visitor. Oyku turns to see Demir. She runs to him and they embrace. Dad! Dad! Dad! I missed you so much. I knew you would come for me! Oyku is overjoyed and says, let’s go home now! Oyku….wait... She runs to her room and starts packing. Wait, Oyku! She’s so excited. No one believed you would come but you’re the kind of dad that keeps his promises.

dondi356

Hija #52 part 5

Demir finally gets her to slow down. What happened dad? Sweetie, I can’t take you with me yet. Why? Because I have to go back to court to prove I can take care of you first.

Oyku yells, no, no, I don’t want to go back to court! Now she is worried they are lying to her and she will never get to go home. Candan tries to calm her saying, we have to follow the rules to get you out. Oyku isn’t having it. she shouts, I don’t believe you, you are lying. She asks Demir, you don’t love me, do you? Then I will stay here! And she runs from the room. Demir goes after her and he grabs her. He tells her you are the person I love most. I promise I will get you out. He hugs her tightly. They cry. Candan and a worker look on.

Demir argues with Candan outside the orphanage. He thinks this is stupid. He should be able to take Oyku. Like it or not, you have to follow the rules and your attitude is not helping, she says. He feels he has nothing to prove. She tells him they would be right not to grant him custody. He’s acting like a lunatic. As they walk, he shouts at her, this is none of her concern! You don’t understand how I feel! Really, counters Candan. Why? Just because I’m not her mother? This stops Demir in his tracks.

Candan continues, I also want her to leave this place. You think I can’t empathize because I’m not her mother? I helped to get you get out of prison! He apologizes. Forgive me, can we sit and talk?

Candan tells Demir she tried to get custody after he disappeared. But she’s not a blood relative and she is single. Asu is a blood relative but she abandoned Oyku. This isn’t fair. You’re right to say this is bureaucratic nonsense. Candan has an idea. I know how to get custody of oyku….let’s get married!

Now Demir is dumbstruck. He wouldn’t get a word in anyway because Candan rambles on. If we get married, we will get custody. I considered it with Mu-rat, but it didn’t work out. (thank goodness) She continues, you’re the perfect person for me…well what I mean is you’re the right person to get custody of Oyku. Lets’ do it! Let’s get married! All Demir can manage to say is, huh? She asks him, Demir, will you marry me?

He snaps out of it and says, yes, of course… yes, let’s get married! He’s excited. Candan reminds him that this would be a marriage of convenience. Yes, of course; it’s to get custody of Oyku. And there’s something else she needs to say. Remember you came to the office and spoke about your feelings? Demir claims it he didn’t really mean it; it was nonsense. Nonsense, she asks? (she looks a bit disappointed) Well… it was a spur of the moment thing, Demir says, it just slipped out. They agree to go on as if that conversation didn’t happen.

Ok. So back to wedding planning. Let’s find out what we have to do to get married. She looks it up on her phone. Seems easy enough. Let’s do the paperwork and get married tomorrow!

Jilet and Cemal talk on the phone. Jilet is trying to locate the diamonds; they must have hidden them somewhere. Cemal still wants to send Demir and Ugur to prison. Jilet tells him he’s backing out of this partnership. He’s done. Jilet feels there are too many obstacles. He’s leaving for a while and suggests that Cemal lay low for a while as well. Cemal is angry.

The call is interrupted by the police banging on Cemal’s door. They have a search warrant. This must be a mistake, says Cemal. They make their way to the bedroom and find the diamonds under the mattress. Cemal is cuffed. He exclaims, this is a trap! (this is too good to be true, but I’ll enjoy it for as long as it lasts)

Hija #52 part 6

Ugur is sitting outside of Mufide’s door. She sees him from the window. He’s shameless, she says. She opens the door she gives him money for a hotel, so he doesn’t freeze outside. He begs to come in. I don’t want a thief in my house! Please… he grovels at her feet and grabs her leg. Where will I go? What will I do without you? Mufide finally takes pity and lets him in. She still won’t let him kiss her hand. She has two conditions for him to stay: she will find him a job and he is going to marry the girl of her choice! If you want to stay here, it’s my rules! Ok.

Ugur’s phone rings. It’s Demir. He has something important to say but don’t get too excited. I’m getting married to Candan. What?! We are getting married to get custody of Oyku. Demir will come by tomorrow to pick up Ugur and Mufide to be witnesses. Are you serious? Of course he is! Ugur and Mufide are in shock.

Next day, Candan comes to Demir. She won’t come in because it’s already late and they should go. He tells her he had his suit cleaned for the occasion. Even though this is just a formality, she says he looks elegant. And you look beautiful, says Demir. I mean the dress looks great on you. Let’s go.

We see them at the wedding table, and they sign the book. Candan and Demir are married! Applause. Ugur takes pictures. Demir is smiling Candan maintains a neutral look.

Next scene is the orphanage. The director congratulates Demir and Candan. Oyku enters and runs to Demir. She is coming home! They show Oyku the marriage certificate. She holds it and looks through it. What joy! She puts her arms around both Demir and Candan.

And now we are back to the present with the family of three.

I would have liked to attend the ceremony, says Oyku. Demir says we wanted to surprise you. Oyku tells Demir, I knew you were I love with Candan from first sight. She tells Candan, I knew you fell for him when we lived at your house. (that seems like ages ago, doesn’t it?) Candan changes the subject. You must be hungry. I’ll go to the kitchen to cook. Demir will come help. Oyku will go study. Demir reminds Oyku she will have to go back to school.

Awkwardness in the kitchen. Candan says she won’t be staying long. She will come back tomorrow. She will come every day after work to see Oyku. She thinks that could work. Demir looks disappointed and says, after all you don’t have to live here just because we are married. After all the excitement, the reality of what they have done is setting in.

Oyku is writing in her diary. I’m sad Asu is gone but Candan loves me more and she worries about me. She married dad! Isn’t that amazing? Now I have a dad and a mom. I’m so happy! Nothing will separate us. We will be together from now on.

Cemal gets a visitor in prison. Arif sent this guy with his regards. Thank him for the lawyer, says Cemal, God bless him. The visitor has good news. The diamonds were fakes! They are still investigating; the real ones are still missing. You will likely be out tomorrow; the lawyer will handle it. Cemal realizes that Jilet must have the real gems. Cemal asks this guy to keep tabs on Demir. Will do.

Oyku gets ready for bed. Candan wants to leave now but Demir says she should wait until Oyku falls asleep.

dondi356

Hija #52 part 7

Demir gets next to Oyku in the bed and is ready to read The Little Prince to her once again. Candan watches them through the door. Oyku tells Demir, I feel I’m very fortunate. Before I met you, I didn’t have anyone except my aunt. But no one worried about me then. Now I have a family. You love me and care about me a lot. Don’t you think that’s a good enough reason to feel fortunate? Demir gets teary. Demir has something to tell Oyku. He’s more fortunate because he has a daughter like her. He is very lucky. She is like a gift. I missed you. Me too dad. Enough of this, get into reading position. He starts reading.

Candan is watching tv in the living room. Demir comes out. Oyku is asleep. Candan will leave now. Demir looks troubled. What’s wrong? He shows Candan the diary. Candan reads that last entry.

We agreed to tell her the truth in a few days but now how do we tell her this is just a formality? We can’t break her heart. What if we let it be for now, says Candan. You mean let it stay like this for a while, asks Demir? What if we wait and give her some time?

So, what now? Demir thinks Candan should stay. She can take his room and he will sleep out in the living room. He will set the alarm and get up early so Oyku doesn’t notice. They will work it out.

Neither Candan nor Demir can fall asleep. Candan thinks, I can’t believe it. I’m Oyku’s mother now. Cut to Demir thinking, I can’t believe what’s happening. Candan is my wife. They both are thinking this is weird. Neither one can believe they are married. Now both are smiling. They settle down to sleep.

Oyku gets up in the middle of the night and starts sleep walking. She leaves her room and steps on a toy, waking Demir. Demir tries to wake her.

And we are out! If you managed to make it this far, thanks for reading.
Please feel free to add or correct as necessary.

Hija

excellent recap Dondi, above and beyond!

hija

Wow!! What an amazing recap, dondi356! I thought you said you'd do an "overview," but you did an over, under, around, and through view! You captured all the relevant details (e.g., Candan's looking neutral in the wedding photo) and then some. And, as always, I loved your asides, such as "(this is too good to be true, but I’ll enjoy it for as long as it lasts)." I confess that I was convinced that Oyku was having a dream, even when she asked whether this was a dream. Only when they went back in time 15 days (and made that explicit) did I let myself believe that the "dream" wasn't a dream.

All along, but especially last night, Oyku reminded me of Teresa Mendoza's daughter, Sofía. Sofía is several years older, but both girls are wise beyond their years, both are intelligent, resourceful, outspoken, stubborn, and more. We saw all those
qualities in Oyku last night. What a delight!

You've covered everything incredibly well, so I have just about nothing to add. I found the Ave Maria a rather strange choice for the background music during the attempted rescue scene. For me, that's so strongly associated with Catholicism, and I think none of the characters is Catholic. No biggie, but I thought I'd mention it, since I found it somewhat disconcerting (though I'm not Catholic, either, and I do love the music).

I was surprised that Demir was able to find Oyku in the midst of all the smoke from the firecrackers. If he could find her, why couldn't Cemal and Jilet see him?

Finally, I was amused near the end when Demir and Candan decide to hold off telling Oyku about the details of their marriage in order to "give her time." Seems to me they need and want to give themselves time to realize that Oyku is right, they're in love with each other and want this to be a full marriage. ¡Ojalá!

I'm now wondering how much longer this novela will last. Telemundo has announced TWO upcoming novelas arriving "pronto," and I think it's likely that one of them will replace Hija.

Again, ¡muchísimas gracias! for this magnificent recap!!

Hija

Muchísimas gracias right back at you, Juanita.

Definitely see the Sofia in Oyku! I like it, too.

I was confused when we went from Demir turning himself in to the happy family scene immediately after. I thought I must have missed something. I was hoping it wasn’t a dream.

Very good take on the Candan – Demir marriage of convenience, Juanita. “Seems to me they need and want to give themselves time to realize that Oyku is right, they're in love with each other and want this to be a full marriage. ¡Ojalá!”

Yes, I mentioned the Ave Maria because it is a very odd choice. It is the Roman Catholic prayer sung in Latin and, regardless of the religious significance, I think it’s a beautiful piece of music. Strangely enough, this is not the first time I have heard it in a Turkish dizi in a similar type of scene. Couldn’t make out if they were singing the real words. Not many Catholics or other Christians in Turkey. Muslim practices and culture are displayed often in Turkish shows. Kind of like how Catholic culture and practices are displayed in the Latino TNs.

hija

Dondi, I'm doing the hands out, bowing down movement to signal my admiration! If Caray had a Badge of Honor, you'd surely get it. What a fine recap! I hope you don't suffer from RSI or you'd surely be icing your wrist by now.

I also loved Cemal in handcuffs. It's a really good look for him. But, alas, we probably have to endure one more scheme, at least.

I was also completely gobsmacked by Oyku coming come with Candan and Demir in tow. And thought it was a dream.

TN's always have odd legal events, but I did wonder how Demir, even with a wife in tow, was able to get Oyku to leave the orphanage with him. Was there a court hearing where he regained custody and I missed it?

I loved the firecrackers scene. The baddies obviously thought guns were being fired.

Jilet wanted to murder Oyku. I can't wait for him to be in prison, hopefully for life. You get life in the US for kidnapping. Again, I'm looking for logic in a TN, but couldn't Oyku testify about her kidnapping and put Cemal back in the slammer?

Todo por mi hija - #53 - p 1 de 3

We again see Oyku sleepwalking and stepping on a toy that makes a noise, waking Demir, who is sleeping on the couch. He tries to talk with her, but at first she's barely responsive. She does tell him she doesn't know why she woke up, nor why she's here in this room. He picks up up and starts to carry her back to bed. She asks him why he's sleeping on the couch. Did he have a fight with Candan? He says he didn't have a fight, he just fell asleep on the couch and Candan covered him with a blanket so he wouldn't be cold. He then brings Oyku back to her bed, and she quickly falls back to sleep.

Demir isn't sure what to do. He walks into the bedroom and sees Candan asleep. The bed clearly has room for a second person, and there's even a second pillow, but Demir doesn't slip into bed next to Candan. A few hours later, Candan's alarm goes off, she wakes up and starts to get out of bed. Ow! She just stepped on Demir, who was sleeping on the floor next to the bed! He cries out in pain, and Oyku calls out "Why are you yelling, Papá?" He quickly kicks the blanket and pilllow under the bed and, as she enters, he assures her that no one was yelling. She goes off to the bathroom to get ready for school.

Candan asks Demir to leave the bedroom. Why? Because she wants to get dressed. Demir tells Candan about Oyku's sleepwalking. He wants to talk with the doctor about this. He too wants to get dressed, and he realizes that he's not going to do it in the bedroom while Candan is there. He's about to go off to the bathroom when he realizes that Oyku is there. So where can he change? In the backyard.

The scene shifts to the prison. We see Cemal walk out. He's met by one of his fellow thugs, the one he asked to keep an eye on Demir. The guy, whose name I don't recall, tells Cemal that Demir and Candan got married, and they took the girl from the orphanage. Cemal comments sarcastically about the happy family, but says they won't be that way for long.

Demir, Candan, and Oyku are at the table having breakfast together. Oyku and Demir are demonstrating how they eat their soft-boiled eggs. Candan follows their example. She then tells Demir that he should look for a job that offers insurance (presumably health insurance), and it so happens that she needs an assistant. Demir is clearly not pleased. She quickly says she didn't mean to offend him. He makes light of it, saying to her and to Oyku that he's allergic to cats and therefore couldn't take the job. As soon as he's away from the table, however, he mutters to himself "Assistant. I'm not a parasite!"

Demir leaves to go to see the doctor. He enounters Ugur, who will take Oyku to school. He tells Ugur about Oyku's sleepwalking. Ugur tries to reassure him that sleepwalking is normal, he (Ugur) did it a lot as a child. Demir explains that that's why he wants to speak with the doctor, to find out whether there's any cause for concern. He then tells Ugur about Candan's offering him a job as her assistant. "Assistant," he says clearly bothered. "I'd rather be a laborer (obrero)!

Ugur comes to the door to get Oyku. Candan opens the door, and there's an awkward silence as she stares at him. Finally she calls out to Oyku that Señor Ugur is here. As Ugur and Oyku leave, Ugur wishes Señora Candan good health and a good day. Shortly after this, the ever perceptive Oyku asks Ugur whether he's scared of Candan. Ugur wants to know why she asks this. She tells him that he made weird faces while he talked to Candan.

Todo por mi hija - #53 - p 2 de 3

Ugur and Oyku arrive at the steps to the school. Oyku asks why he doesn't leave. He admits that he's waiting to see his beloved Sevgi. His beloved Sevgi arrives, and he greets her warmly. She, however, is quite cool to him. She says that she and Oyku will head up to the classroom, but Ugur asks her to stay. "Why are you talking to me?" she asks him. "Don't bother me!" He says he wants to explain, he'll be quick. "I'm listening," she says. He launches into Ugur-speak: "Just as our relationship was blossoming, I was confronted with an unfortunate situation." She translates "unfortunate situation" into "I was in jail." Yes, he says, but now he's out. He'd like to explain further. Could we talk over coffee? "Don't even think about it!" she tells him. "You and I are from different worlds." With that she heads up the stairs to go to her class.
Ugur reflects on her assertion that they are from different worlds. He says (to himself) "You are the Earth and I am the Moon, and my sole purpose is to be in your orbit."

Demir catches Dr. Ihsan as he's about to see someone with an appointment. He agrees to talk with Demir as he's walking to the elevator. Demir tells him about Oyku's sleepwalking episode and asks whether this is something to worry about. Dr. Ihsan tells him that usually there are three main causes of sleepwalking: stress, extreme fatigue, and genetic reasons. In Oyku's case, it could be fatigue, or it could be related to her illness. Demir should watch, and if it continues, they'll have to do an electroencephalogram while Oyku sleeps. "Is there any medicine for this?" Demir asks. The doctor tells him that that will depend on the cause. "If it's caused by her illness, there's nothing we can do."

At school, Oyku suggests to Mercan that he show her p.88 of the homework before he shows it to the teacher. Presumably, she'll look for errors and help him correct them. But before he can do this, Ilayda [hiss here] comes over and tells Oyku that she's the daughter of a thief. Oyku gets angry and attacks Ilayda. The fight is, of course, the cue for Sevgi to enter the classroom. But this time Sevgi is angry primarily at Ilayda. And then she addresses the entire class and tells them that Oyku's father went to court, was absolved, and is therefore innocent. Is that clear? Sevgi then looks out the window and sees Ugur pacing back and forth. When he sees her, he smiles and waves. She asks the class to excuse her for a minute. She leaves the class and goes to speak with Ugur. She explains that she told the class that when the judge absolved Demir, that meant he was innocent. She realizes that that applies to Ugur as well. He tells her he wants to explain why he and she are not from different worlds. She says she'll accept going for coffee with him. He's thrilled.

Cemal tells the man at Asu's apartment building that Asu had asked him to get some personal things that she had left behind. The guy is at first reluctant, but Cemal gives him his ID, and the guy gives him the key to her former apartment. Cemal enters the apartment. He remembers her telling him, "Leave me alone. I've treated you badly. Why don't you hate me?" Cemal is clearly looking for something. "You must have left a clue somewhere," he mutters. He makes a mess, but eventually he comes upon her diary. In it is the photo of a younger Demir, Asu, and Cemal. Then he starts to read the diary: "Hello, Cemal," Asu wrote. "If you're reading this, you are probably in trouble. You want to know where I am, but I want to tell you something first. Since you're looking for problems, here are some.".

Todo por mi hija - #53 - p 3 de 3

Ugur and Mufide are in a cafe. In walks Umram the Stalker! "Oh no!" exclaims Ugur (and Viewerville). "Where are your manners?" asks Mufide. She tells the two of them to get to know each other. Ugur is puzzled. (Yesterday's Smart Ugur has been replaced by his twin, Idiot Ugur.) Mufide tells him "I told you I'd find a woman for you to marry." Then Kemal comes in. Mufide explains that Kemal is the cafe's owner, and that starting tomorrow, Ugur is going to be working for him as a waiter. "What are you doing?" asks a horrified Ugur. "Fixing your life, you embarrassment," replies Mufide.

Oyku tells Candan about Sevgi addressing the class. Oyku likes Sevgi a lot. "Why are you scratching your head so much?" Candan asks. It turns out that Oyku has lice. Demir returns and learns about the lice. He suggests they cut Oyku's hair. That suggestion isn't well received. Apparently the way to treat lice is with a special comb and some shampoo. Demir goes to get what is needed.

Ugur wants to go out to meet Sevgi. However, when he goes to open the door, he finds Mufide has locked it. He's understandably furiious. He goes into another room, slams the door, and gets out of the house by climbing out the window (it's getting to be his specialty). (I'm starting to lose patience with Mufide.)

Ugur waits at the cafe for Sevgi. She arrives, but she's still somewhat cool toward him. He thanks her for giving him the opportunity to explain. When she calls him Señor Ugur, he asks that they stop being so formal. They're "Ugur" and "Sevgi." Sevgi tells him that he went to jail, his photo was everywhere, and then he got out. She felt defensive. But he was right. He was absolved and is innocent. Ugur tells her she is so pretty and sweet.

Apparently Demir and Candan have succeeded in getting rid of Oyku's lice. But Demir thinks he may have some lice. Candan runs her hands through his hair, looking for lice. He clearly likes the feel of her hands on his head. No, there's no lice. He looks at her. She tells him she thinks she'll go to bed. He says he'll go to bed, too. That is, he'll sleep on the floor next to the bed. She offers to put a pillow on the floor for him. She then tells him, "When I made the offer for you to be my assistant, I shouldn't have. Forgive me." Demir says he should apologize. He wasn't very pleasant. She then heads for the bedroom. Demir spends some time looking pensively at his wedding ring.

Ugur tells Sevgi about his childhood. He was very mischievous, very energetic, always getting into scrapes. Sevgi says excitedly that she was the same way, full of energy. Ugur then asks her would she have coffee with him the next day. And the day after that. "We can have coffee together for the rest of our lives.. What do you say?" Sevgi is somewhat taken aback. "I don't know what to say." Ugur urges, "Don't say that, just say yes." Suddenly Sevgi sees something and her expression changes. "Papá?" she says. Ugur stands up with a frightened expression on his face. And the episode ends.

Hija #52

I’m supper late to tuu hi is party but wanted to say what an amazing job you did with the double hitter, donde, thank you!

I could just copy and paste Juanita’s and Novelera’s comments.

Seems like we were all fooled by the writers when they had Oyku, Demir and Candan arrived happily and plop themselves on the couch.

And we all question the “Ave María” I’m wondering if Telemundo switched songs on us again.

Be back later to comment on #53

Hija

Thank you very much, Juanita, for another great recap!

There’s a bombshell in Asu’s diary for sure! It probably will add more fuel to Cemal’s fire for revenge.

If anyone watched ¿Que Culpa Tiene Fatmagul?, Kemal’s restaurant was Fatmagul’s Rose Kitchen!

Juanita, your Ugur snark was on point: “Ugur-speak” “…gets out of the house by climbing out the window (it's getting to be his specialty)” “(Yesterday's Smart Ugur has been replaced by his twin, Idiot Ugur.)”

I’m not losing patience with Mufide yet because she was betrayed big time. Let Ugur “suffer” a little bit more—a small price to pay for lying to and sponging off his mom all those years.

I’m betting by the look on Ugur’s face that Sevgi’s dad is the police captain that is already acquainted with Ugur and Demir.

I hope they don’t make us wait too long for Candan and Demir to seal the deal. Set that slow cooker to high heat! I think they make an attractive couple. BTW, in the Turkish ep, she asked him if he had PJs for her to wear. He gave her a pair of his sweat pants and she complained that they were too short for her! That didn’t sit well with Demir.

I went to the Turkish episode to watch the rescue scene. They did play “Ave Maria” and I listened closely. I believe the singing was in German, except for the words “Ave Maria”. It makes sense now because Schubert wrote the music for a poem, not the prayer. I’m just so used to hearing it sung with the Latin prayer, I didn’t think of it at first.

Thanks very much, dondi356, for your great comments!

I agree that Ugur has caused Mufide much grief, though he has in many ways also been an attentive son. I think the reason I'm so annoyed with Mufide at the moment is because she has chosen a true PERRA for her son, unless that turns out to be a temporary further punishment on her part. But she doesn't seem like the sort to do something in any way devious.

I too hope that Demir and Candan won't take the "convenience" aspect of their marriage seriously for much longer. I loved your "Set that slow cooker to high heat!"!!

I'm impressed with the way you're able to consult and compare the Turkish version of the novela with the one dubbed into Spanish. Demir definitely does have his macho side that would balk at a woman being taller, or at least calling attention to that.
And thanks for the info about the Ave Maria. Interesting.

Thanks so much, Juanita. Terrific recap, as always. And your asides were just what I was thinking at that moment!

I'm leaning toward your POV, Juanita, in being tired of New Mufide. I don't see how any mother of a grown son (and I am one) would want their son to marry a woman she's chosen when the son has an obvious antipathy toward that woman.

I thought perhaps Asu might have said that Cemal is Oyku's bio dad. But I just don't think the novela is going there.

And, I repeat my earlier question. Demir knows where Cemal lives. Why doesn't he turn him into the police for kidnapping? Problem solved.

I suppose the end of the novela is in sight. I can't figure out how they will resolve Oyku's illness in the grand finale.

I concur that Sevgi's father is probably the police captain who knew all about their earlier crimes. Gulp.

Thanks very much, novelera, for your appreciative and interesting comments. We are apparently on similar wave lengths. I too find myself wondering whether Asu will tell Cemal that he's the bio dad, but I'm not sure whether it's true nor what her motivation would be. So, like you, I'm thinking the novela isn't headed there. I suppose it could turn into a PSA about biology not being as important as caring (case in point: Candan), but somehow I just don't think so.

And I too worry about how the novela will resolve the issue of Oyku's illness. It's a real illness without a cure, and so I doubt the novela would create a cure in order to have a "happy ending." And the symptoms and the tests all pointed to Niemann-Pick, so it's not likely that they can suddenly find that the diagnosis was incorrect. I don't like the possibilities that remain.

And yes, the look on Ugur's face makes it very likely that Sevgi's police captain father will be the one who knows Ugur and Demir all too well.

HIJA

Juanita, yet another stellar recap, thank you! I am especially appreciative because I see that my local station must have cut a scene that I would have enjoyed seeing--Candan waking up to find Demir sleeping on the floor. It may not be a very relevant scene, but it makes the situation more real. And Dondi, thanks for checking on that song!

Dondi, I hope that "bombshell" in Asu's diary doesn't make us doubt tha Demir is the father. We've been there, done that and I don't want to go through that again.

I was not impressed with the doctor's response to Demir's concern about the sleep walking. I understand that he was in a rush, but it didn't seem to me that he gave much thought to the problem and its relation to Oyku's illness. Sleep disturbance is one of the main symptoms!

It's very odd but Ugur is starting to grow on me; or maybe it's because I like Sevgi, but I actually enjoyed their scenes in this episode.

I really don't blame Mufide for being so strict with Ugur, but he is a grown man and ordering him not to go out was a bit much. From his reaction, the thought of having to work in that cafe and dealing with Umram should be sufficient torture. I don't see why he doesn't tell Mufide about his feelings for Sevgi, maybe Mufide would cut him some slack.

And I'm at that table that thinks Sevgi's father is the one who knows Ugur and Demir quite well.

The lice situation was amusing. Demir did seem to enjoy Candan's fingers running through his hair, but Candan also seemed quite (pleasantly) affected.

In regards to the resolution of Oyku's illness, there was a scene recently (I think it's when he was taking to Candan in the corridor) where he told Candan that there was some experimental drug/treatment for it. I found this from the Mayo Clinic--

The three main types of Niemann-Pick are types A, B and C. The signs and symptoms you experience depend on the type and severity of your condition. Some infants with type A will show signs and symptoms within the first few months of life. Those with type B may not show signs for years and have a better chance of surviving to adulthood. People with type C may not experience any symptoms until adulthood.

Since the disease was detected well beyond Oyku's infancy, I am assuming she has Type B??? and could live into adulthood with the correct treatment.

Hija

Since Demir tore up the DNA result, I expect we are going get another round of who’s the daddy.

I think once Mufide meets Sevgi, she will change her tune on an Ugur – Umran marriage.

I thought about your question, novelera. Besides the fact that it would end a major storyline with more show to go, I think the reluctance to report the kidnapping is partly based on fear. Demir worries that Cemal will find new ways to hurt Oyku and Oyku fears for Demir. Additionally, criminals solve problems amongst themselves, they don’t go directly to the police. Hence the set-up schemes, etc.

Maybe the lessons of this show will be sometimes there are no miracles but be grateful for any blessings you have, remember to live in the present, and that family is not always set by blood.
