MARIANA #112/#113

Mariana has gone BSC. No other way to describe it.

Agustín Arana plays Oropo. I have seen him in so many things and didn't recognize him at all.

Not enough brain cells to go around. How was it smart to leave an infant next to a comatose woman in a very skinny bed to begin with? If the kid moved he was going to fall to the floor. Then to leave the room????

Always time for a little levity at the bar.

Water wars! A tale as old as time . . . Looks like Marcia and Iván could soon be at war!!!!

Finally Atilio is feeling the effects of the poison. Took long enough.

Will the disease outbreak stop Yadhira’s marriage to Oropo?

Chachi has a shirt on that says “packers”. If it is Green Bay it is the wrong colors. LOL.

All Isidro sees is lots of evil.

Camilo announces that Atilio is DYING!!!!! Oh, no!!!!

MARIANA

I've only watched half of today's farce, but had to say--

About the squeaky shoes: Seriously??/ You all haven't noticed? Those boots Marcia wears squeak ALOT! It's annoying and distracting to me...maybe I'm hearing sensitive :-)

Jarifa, I've been asking that same question about everyone leaving baby Iggy on a bed...by himself, by a comatose woman....everywhere without any barriers to prevent him from falling. Stupid people!

I keep waiting for Lucrecia to blurt out something ...anything! When Liborio kidnapped baby Iggy would have been a perfect time.

And how is it that the magic bones can tell Isidron that it was Mariana who was losing her baby, but they can't warn him of baby Iggy being kidnapped or the priest being murdered. And if he can turn himself into a hawk, why can't he "enter" Lucrecia's body and read her thoughts just like Whoopi Goldberg did in "Ghost"? The man is useless.

And what was that with Max and Sergio salivating for Ruth. And the lady at the store hitting on the younger miners??? TOTALLY. OUT. OF. PLACE!!

Mariana De la nocha is one of the first telenovelas I ever watched. I thought the people were so beautifu
l to look at, the Men and the ladys
The cameras got up close in Their faces. And now my brother watches it on demand. I didnt remember it until I Saw that giant tree that takes up the whole perimeter of the camara. They Did a lot of living under that tree. They should have nominated it for best supporting object in a daytime telenovela. A good show. I'm at work by the time its on. And yall seem to be enjoyin it all over again, good.

MARIANA

Jarifa, thanks for your summary, it gives me a head start on the episodes. And I need it because I spend so much time rolling my eyes and shaking my head that I often miss things.

Rgv Chickie, "About the squeaky shoes: Seriously??/ You all haven't noticed?"
Um, we all, numbering in the hundreds of thousands surely, did not notice   :-)
But I'll look, er, listen, for it now.

Nina! Nice to see you here!

Andy

MARIANA

Yadira is back to her indigenous roots and, of course, looking good (she must have stopped off at the indigenous beauty salon before visiting her old home; "home" looks a lot like a lean-to, but whatever). She thinks, aloud naturally, about growing up there and how she misses her parents who have gone off.
Here I was wondering why they don't do these soliloquies as voice overs, like a thought bubble in a cartoon, when, Lo!, who appears but the beloved missing parents!

This telenovela is probably best enjoyed with a small bottle of strong spirits at hand. A quite small bottle because it will probably be empty before the end of the episode.

Jarifa, "It is always more fun watching these novelas—especially THIS novel—with a group." Oh, so true!

But sniping and complaining are part of the fun.

Anyway, lovely Yadira and her parents share a tearful reunion and then Oropo comes by with a bowl of fruit. Yadira does the introductions, which puzzled me a bit. Is Oropo a member of this village or community? Should the parents not already know him? Or does Oropo just float around the jungle with no particular place to call home?

Anyway, Oropo proposes marriage and Yadira accepts. Yadira, honey, NO, don't do it. Oropo is a nice guy with all sorts of magical powers for everything except for snake bite, and he has lots of hair if you like that, but he's not for you! (How hard is it to get an indigenous divorce or annulment?)

OK, Itzel is leaving town, heading back to her village. Is there hope for an Itzel/Oropo romance?
Chachi is smiling, Camilo is grimacing.
We are about 12 minutes into the show. Where did I put that bottle?

Andy

MARIANA

Nina, great to see you on the patio and hear about your memories of MARIANA.

RgvChick, I will just say you must have an amazing power of hearing! Glad to hear I wasn’t only one who thought the placement of the baby was, uh, dangerous.

Andy, YES this novela could be better enjoyed in a “spirited way” but it might get pricey at 10 episodes a week. I like the idea of thought bubbles.

MARIANA

There must be something in the water because everyone is so stupid. Liborio lets its slip that the "squincle" cries too much and Vilma follows him to the shack and tries to take baby Iggy. He hits her on the head, she falls and tries to get up so he hits her one more time with a 4x4 beam...THEN he drags her dead body out in a blanket and throws her down the ravine. He doesn't bother to remove the blanket to make it look like an accident but he's sure no one will find her. Yeah, right!

And Andy, looks like Oropo's magical powers can't fight off that virus/disease/huareva either

So Ivan's underground dam is forcing the water into the Montenegro mine...HA!! Mudfight of the devils!

MARIANA

Rgv Chickie, "And what was that with Max and Sergio salivating for Ruth. And the lady at the store hitting on the younger miners??? TOTALLY. OUT. OF. PLACE!!"

Sorry, not sorry; I have to disagree, even though I think you are just kidding.
It seems that Max and Sergio are Chubby Chasers, guys who prefer women not too thin. Nothing wrong with that. And Ruth is heavy but very pretty, and I guess these guys have never seen her before.
All they did was look with appreciation, and Ruth didn't seem to mind. When she offered her hand to Sergio it was not to shake, but to kiss.

About Sergio's sister(??), nothing wrong with a somewhat older woman (and she's not exactly ancient) hitting on younger guys. If they're not interested, they're not interested. Lots of younger guys would tell you. Lots of older guys have happy memories.
And it's perfectly fine in that there is generally no hint of physical threat as there can be sometimes with men hitting on women.
The guys did manage to escape. Maybe they are married.

And the lady cracked me up. Sergio went to the cantina for a beer because it was so hot. And then, "Ustedes no tienen calor?"
What, both of them?
Anyway, I approve and only wish there were more women like her. For the younger guys, of course.

These little romantic interludes are perhaps the best part of this telenovela yet. Wow, is it that bad???

:-)

Andy

MARIANA

I didn't like that Liborio did in Vilma, but I loved Lola's sharing with the doggie. Vilma did "dead" better than Padre Pedro, but it annoyed me that the telenovela decided to kill her off. This novela is not a drama, though I'm not sure just what it is. In any event, I dislike that it kills off people we have become familiar with like Vilma and Fr Pedro, and who knows who else.

We already know these bad guys are deserving of heavy anvils, but they will actually get off easy. What will happen to Cumache for example? He has to have killed a dozen people by now. Will he be killed a dozen times?

Some days I just want to go to Mexico and shake some of the telenovela producers and tell them just how they should do a decent telenovela.

I'm sure they would listen :-)

Andy

MARIANA

Geez, RgvChick hears better than I do and Andy sees better than I do (having noticed Padre Pedro’s twitching eye lid.) I Gotta find my niche! LOL

MARIANA

Andy, I was in no way insinuating that Ruth is not worthy of salivating over or that older women shouldn’t hit on younger men. And romantic interludes are definitely a plus.

With so many grim storylines so close to the end, I was simply surprised that the writers would throw in what I thought to be a new light and bright storyline. That’s what I meant when I said it was “out of place.”

And I would really enjoy watching El Cumache die a slow painful death a dozen times :)

BTW what is the significance of Yadira’s feathers? No one else was wearing any. Does she get one every time she pines over Camilo? Today she had more than she had yesterday.

"MARIANA":

Andy: Looks like Itzel is likely to die from that infectious disease wiping out the indigenous tribe soon. I'm afraid she & the tribe won't be with us much longer.

Crazy Whacky Chachi got her wish AGAIN.

RGV Chick: The Oscar for Best Actress goes to Marcia Montenegro.

Jarifa: Yadhira looks pretty damn hot!

MARIANA

Rgv Chickie: Ah!, I totally misinterpreted what you meant, sorry!

And you are right about the grim story lines: murders, baby kidnappings, more murders, a village plague, everything but locusts. This telenovela has been kooky fun a lot of the time, but it goes dark sometimes when it really shouldn't. With all the silliness this TN offered up early we had no expectation that we were signing up for a dark drama as we near the end.

I, too, was wondering about Yadira's head band and the feathers. And at one point everyone in the village was wearing white except for Itzel who was still in skimpy indigenous girl costume. I hope Doc Camilo gets there soon with some magic medicine since Oropo doesn't seem to have any mojo for this. Well, I'm assuming he doesn't; lately he's just been persuing Yadira, maybe he hasn't noticed there's a plague.

Steve: Yadira is definitely good-looking, best in show :-)
and I think this show has offered us mo' better feminine eye candy than the masculine stuff, fortunately for us.
There is Jorge Salinas, who has a considerable fan base here, Oropo, Camilo; and Rgv Chickie mentioned Atilio, which showed me once again that I don't always understand what women find attractive.
But just about all the women have been pretty, or better. And more interesting.

MARIANA

#114

Pretty much status quo EXCEPT

Mariana who proves once again that she isn’t the sharpest knife in any drawer when she agrees to marry Atilio when he tells her that is the only way he will try the risky new medicine that is available to him. He could die from the treatment! Isabel tells her that wasn't smart. Duh!

Wow! Camilo is in high demand.

Why do the inhabitants of the indigenous village dress like one would expect indigenous people to dress but Yadhira and her rival look like it is Halloween everyday?

Nice touch of nature: the snake in the tree that Iggy passes under.

Most bizarro scene: Potential Darwin Award winner Marcia actually lounging and smoking in bed with Lucrecia who is on oxygen. (!!!!!)

#115

Does anyone ever feed or change the baby?

Camilo gives his “nurses” advice on keeping track of the disposable cups so they aren't mixed up and end up spreading more disease. Hmmm. Ah, ha. Could Chachi set somebody up knowing this???

Iggy witnesses Isidro doing his magic. . . . Yay! What an effect! Another transformation! Wow! A team approach with Oropo and then Iggy.
Wah! Isidro loses years of his life with each transformation. He has only one transformation left.

I hear howling winds like that most days and there are hawks that dive bomb small prey around here Should I be on the lookout for Isidro? ; )

Isidro asks: Would Iggy be able to forgive some blood relative who was dying if they were ready to mend their ways? Iggy says yes but WHO?

Atilio sounds like he has a bad case of indigestion.

Atilio survives and wants to hold Mariana to her promise. She refuses because it was his last wish and he is all better now. Is she waking up???

Why didn't anyone ever ask HOW Atilio got poisoned?

Iggy gets to hear “who loves him best” face-off between Mariana and Marcia.

MARIANA

LESSONS FOR THE DAY

- If you want to force someone to do what you want, ask them to do it on your deathbed--Ati could only find the strength to fight for his life if Mariana promised to marry him.

- If you have to transform yourself into a hawk, you can only do it four times and when you do, you lose years off of your life--Isidro flies again making the earth shake and the winds blow windows and doors open...and the only message he brings back is that Iggy has to forgive a soul of his blood that is dying.

- Don't count on someone to fulfill a promise made at a deathbed--Mariana renigs her promise! Whoop-dee-doo!!

- If you kill someone, others are bound to notice that they are missing. Ruth and Doris report Vilma missing and a hunt will ensue.

- Never talk to someone who is "muerta en vida" --Marcia continues to confess her evil deeds to Lucrecia who can't wait to get her mouth moving.

- Not everything is as far from civilization as we think. Yadira makes it to Camilo's consulturio in record time to take him back to stop the epidemic.

- Oropo has better hearing than I do--He "heard" Isidro summon him for help.

RgvChick, Love the “LESSONS FOR THE Day” . More later.

MARIANA

Jarifa, thanks again! Your summaries are always a great help. I have to admit that I "occasionally" hit the FFWD button and miss some of the "finer" points of this novela, but with your summaries I can manage even if I accidentally go a bit past a nonsense scene.

Back at the "village", which seems to be just a collection of three-sided lean-tos, why is Itzel the only one dressed as she is?

Liborio should be more careful what he says to Carol, she is not a priest. Neither is Iván, though he seems ready to administer a penance.

Quite a little storm Isidro caused. I don't remember, does Oropo always wear a "vest"? It gave Iggy something to grab when he pushed Oropo up against the tree and question him.

All this drama was for Atilio's benefit? Atilio??
And in what theology is forgiveness from someone wronged necessary for salvation? To repent and ask for forgiveness, yes, sure. And was all this to save his life or his soul? And there was genuine repentance from Atilio? I don't think so.
This is too complicated for me.

JP arrives to give Atilio the last rites. How nice, I'm sure that absolves everything, along with Iggy's pardon, though Iggy didn't know who he was pardoning. BTW, how are they treating Atilio anyway? What exactly is the diagnosis?

And why do I keep trying to make sense of this novela?

Hot darn! :-)

Our boy Iggy sure got an earful with his girlfriends trying to outdo each other proclaiming their love for him. I don't know if he has recently grown a brain or he's just being his usual glum self, but he doesn't look happy about what he just heard.

Rgv Chickie, thanks for your "LESSONS FOR THE DAY". Especially "Not everything is as far from civilization as we think. Yadira makes it to Camilo's consulturio in record time to take him back to stop the epidemic."

And then our second most favorite crazy woman, Chachi, makes it to the village carrying a suitcase, and not breaking a sweat.

:-)

Andy

MARIANA

RgvChick, I don't know if I can agree that Oropo has better hearing than you. : )

Andy, you hit the goofiness of this all on the head with “ And in what theology is forgiveness from someone wronged necessary for salvation?” Thinking about that makes my brain tired.

Should be interesting on Monday.

"MARIANA":

RGV Chick: Who's Vilma ?

Jarifa: Crazy Whacky Chachi getting away with murder.

"MARIANA":

RGV Chick: Loved your "Lessons of the day" tips.

Isabel is the only one with good sense to know Mariana is STUPID.

MARIANA

It looks like Unimás will preempt Mariana for fútbol for a few days beginning Tuesday.

Try not to cry.

:-)

Andy

MARIANA

WAH!

Thanks, Andy!

OT

Jarifa, it looks like you are fully recapping and commenting a prime time telenovela, as well as keeping us up on what happens on Mariana. I didn't know that.

Good grief, but are you a glutton for punishment!

:-)

Andy

OT

Andy, yes, I just couldn’t pass up “Vencer el desamor” and there wasn’t anyone fighting me for the recapping honors. LOL Anyway, it helps to keep me sane and out of trouble during these covid lockdown times. Gotta keep busy!

MARIANA

UGHHH! No Mariana for 3 days??? Stupid, stupid, stupid!!

OT

Yes, Andy, Jarifa rocks! She's my Wonder Woman Recapper :-)
