Hija # 76 part 1

Slight rewind to Demir getting a call from Ugur. Something has happened…

Cemal is awake and out of the ICU! Ugur gives the phone to Cemal. Demir asks, are you ok? I’m fine says, Cemal. Demir says he’s coming right away. No rush, Cemal says, I’m not going anywhere. Demir lets Candan and Oyku know that Cemal is awake. He’s going to see him now. Can I go, asks Oyku? No, you have school. I’ll take you later, he tells her. Demir decides that the cat has brought them good luck so he can stay!

Candan and Betul are dropping off the kids. They notice they are still not speaking.

Demir visits Cemal. Ugur is still there. Cemal thinks he got lucky. Ugur says the doctor was just here and said he is improving. Don’t worry, Demir, says Cemal, I’m not leaving this world without donating my bone marrow. The nurse comes in and asks Demir and Ugur to leave. Cemal asks for 5 more minutes. Cemal tells Demir, I heard something Ahmed told Faik. Ahmed killed your father. Cemal tells Ugur, I’m sorry for coming after you. The reaction is restrained. Demir says they should go because Cemal needs to rest.

Outside Cemal’s room, Ugur asks Demir, are you still mad at me? Yes, I am. Didn’t you hear? I’m innocent, says Ugur. Demir tells him, I know you would never kill anyone, but you hid and protected my father’s killer for years. I can’t forgive that. Ugur tries to explain how scared he was. He was scared that Demir would have wanted revenge and killed someone. He didn’t want anything bad to happen to Demir. Ugur, our brotherhood is over, Demir says. From now on I’ll only say hello.

Ahmed calls Demir. We have to talk, he says.

The kids take their seats. Oyku goes over to Mercan. She says, I wanted to apologize for yelling at you. She gives him the copy of The Little Prince and sits back down in her seat. He opens the book and reads the inscription: To my best friend, I wish you the best. Mercan is all smiles. He goes over to Oyku and thanks her. He kisses her cheek. A big awwwww from the class. Ilayda takes the book, I have this too, it’s dumb. Mercan pulls it out of her hand, it’s mine! All is well between the best friends again.

Demir meets up with Ahmed. Ahmed wants Demir to withdraw his testimony. Tell the police you were mistaken about me. Change your statement. Is that all, asks Demir? Ahmed has the nerve to tell Demir, you ruined all my plans and my future. I’m a fugitive now. Demir asks, anything else I can do for you, idiot? Demir grabs him. You killed my father, do you want me to kill you? Ahmed pulls a gun but Demir quickly turns the tables on Ahmed. He slugs Ahmed and puts the gun to his face.

Demir says, I wondered all these years who killed my father and why he did it. I promised myself I would pay him in kind. And look, we met by coincidence. Do you know what I want to do now? Avenge my father. Demir gets ready to shoot. Demir can’t do it, he won’t do it. He throws the gun away and slugs Ahmed again. Demir tells him, there’s only one reason I’m not going to kill you—my daughter. You owe me and I swear I’m going to collect one day. You took my father’s life, but I’ll let you have yours because I made a promise to my daughter. I never want to see you again. I won’t forgive you twice. Demir walks away.

Hija # 76 part 2

A week later….

Oyku is getting ready for the hospital. She feeds Lucky before she goes. Be good, she tells Lucky, I love you a lot. I’ll be back as soon as I’m better and we’ll never be apart. Demir and Candan look on, smiling.

Ugur surprises Sevgi as she’s walking. Please don’t be mad, he says, I thought we could walk together. She thought he’d be at the hospital for Oyku. He wanted to speak with her first. Ok you did, now get lost, she says. And she walks on without him.

Demir, Candan and Oyku get to the hospital room Oyku tells Demir she is very hungry. Demir says they should wait for Dr. Ihsan and ask him. Ihsan arrives. Demir asks him if Oyku can eat. He says there is special menu for Oyku. It sounds exciting but when it arrives, it’s not much and not very appetizing. Ihsan says, eat this for now and you can have a bigger meal after the surgery. Demir asks about Cemal. Don’t worry he’s fine, says Ihsan, everything will be fine.

Demir visits Cemal. Are you ok? I’m fine. Cemal asks, how’s Oyku? Demir wanted to see Cemal; he was worried. Demir says, I couldn’t thank you before. For what? You saved my life at that mechanic’s shop. You took a bullet for me without thinking about it.

Cemal stops him there, I would be dead if you hadn’t brought me to the hospital. I was dying, so you don’t have to thank me. This is how things needed to happen, Cemal says. Demir tells him, you can’t imagine how much good you are doing now. You gave my daughter hope, and you did it voluntarily. If not for you, we’d still be desperately waiting for a donor. I’ll always owe you. Cemal tells Demir, we’ve both been hurt many times. I don’t know if we’ll ever heal from those wounds, but I doubt we will do it by keeping score. Let’s just call it destiny. The nurse comes in to say Oyku is ready. Nos vemos hermano.

We see Oyku in the operating room, waving to Demir and Candan, who are watching through a window. Cemal is wheeled into a nearby room to start his part of the procedure.

Ugur arrives and asks for Oyku at the front desk. He goes up to the floor. Demir is watching Cemal being prepared. Ugur asks Demir, is everything ok? How is Oyku? She’s fine, Demir answers. Ugur asks, what did the doctor say? How long will it take? It’s a long operation, says Demir, you don’t have to stay. Ugur wants to stay. Oyku is my niece, he says. Demir tells him, enough, let’s talk another day, not today. Demir walks away. Ugur and Cemal look at each other. Ugur leaves.

Faik visits Ahmed. He’s been sitting in the dark so no one can see into the house. Did you talk to the captains, he asks Faik. No one wants to take Ahmed to Greece; it’s too risky for them. Faik says, Cemal is alive, turn yourself in. You will only get a few years. Ahmed slaps Faik. I have lots of priors, he says, if I go to jail, I’ll never get out. Then Demir’s father’s case will be reopened. Faik says to let him talk to Ugur. He will give him a beating and tell him to change his statement. No, Ahmed is going to handle things his way.

Candan tells Demir he should rest. No, he wants to stay and watch. Demir gets a call. It’s Betul. Sorry to bother you, she says, Mercan is worried and so am I. He is so worried he can’t sleep. Would you speak with Mercan so he will feel better? Demir agrees. Mercan? You’re worried about Oyku? Yes. You’re a good friend, he tells the boy. How is Oyku, Mercan asks. Demir answers, everything is fine; she’s going to get better, don’t worry. Will you tell her I said hello when she wakes up? Of course, says Demir, now get to bed. You have school tomorrow.

Hija #76 part 3

15 days later….

Demir is packing Oyku’s things. She is being discharged. Demir tells her, we beat time. We fought and won. Everything will be great. Oyku asks for Candan and Ugur. He tells her Candan is getting the house ready and Sevgi is there helping. He mentions the fleabag cat, Lucky, has missed her a lot. And where is Ugur? Demir doesn’t have to answer because a nurse comes in to take Oyku’s temperature. Then Ugur comes in with flowers. Oyku kids around that Ugur forgot about her. How can you say that, I always think of you, he says. Demir asks Ugur to step outside.

Ugur says he’s happy to see Oyku; she looks good. What are we going to do, he asks Demir? Candan and Sevgi must have something planned. He tells Demir, he called Sevgi but she’s still not answering his calls. Demir asks Ugur to stop this. We can’t keep acting like nothing happened, he says, every time I see you, I think of my father. You also remind me of that idiot, Ahmed. I want to start over but I can’t do it with you in my life. Demir says he won’t tell Oyku.

Ugur begs, Demir, please don’t do this. I told you everything. I had no choice. Demir can’t accept this. He tells Ugur, you lied to me all these years. How else can I take it? You were the only person I trusted. Ugur says he didn’t lie. Good bye, Ugur. Demir, goes back in the room and closes the door on him.

Good news for Oyku. Everything is normal and she can go as soon as Dr. Ihsan signs the discharge. Oyku is happy to go home. Where did Ugur go, she asks? Demir says, he had to go home to get something he forgot. How is Cemal, she asks. He’s being discharged today, too. Can I see Cemal, she asks. I haven’t been able to thank him. Ok, let’s go see him.

Ihsan is visiting with Cemal. He wanted to wish him a speedy recovery and to thank him for being a donor. Cemal asks Ihsan if the transplant will work. Of course. Ihsan says finding a donor is like a miracle. He didn’t expect to find one so soon. Thanks to that, Oyku will get better.

Speak of the devil, Oyku and Demir come in. Oyku tells Cemal, you’re not a bad person after all. You did good things for me. But if you are a good person, then why did you treat me so badly? Cemal is very sorry for what had happened. You won’t hurt me again, right, she asks? No, he will never do those things again. Cemal says, I made a lot of mistakes with you and your dad but that is over now. I promise. Oyku says, if it weren’t for you, I couldn’t get better. My Dad says everything will be ok from now on. Dr Ihsan is waiting so they have to go. (Isn’t it nice to see Cemal smiling instead of scowling?)

Candan and Sevgi are home waiting for Oyku. Sevgi misses Oyku in the classroom. Candan asks her, anything new with Ugur? Sevgi says, he came to see me this morning. He wanted to walk and talk together. Sounds like he’s sorry, says Candan. What am I supposed to do Candan, asks Sevgi. I can’t just forget everything. Candan says It looks like he and Demir are still not getting along either. And nothing has changed between her and Demir (totally her fault). Sevgi asks how they are doing. I honestly don’t know, says Candan, we have to focus on Oyku now.

Demir, Oyku and Cemal leave the hospital. Ugur looks on from a distance. Candan calls Demir and he walks a short distance away. Meanwhile Oyku asks Cemal, who will take care of you? She grabs his hand and says, come with us. Cemal tells her he can take care of himself. She pulls on his arm, come with us, please. Don’t stay alone. When Demir comes back, Oyku asks if Cemal can come home with them. Cemal says he should go; he can take care of himself. Demir says, Oyku is right. Besides, we should celebrate. Ok, says Cemal, and he gives his keys to Demir to drive his car. Ugur watches them pull away.

dondi356

Hija #76 part 4

Demir pulls up to the house. Oyku helps Cemal out of the car. She holds his hand as they walk to the door. Ugur must have been following them in a taxi. Demir sees Ugur get out up the street. Demir just walks away. Ugur walks to the house and watches as Oyku is greeted by Candan and Sevgi and everyone goes inside. Demir spots Ugur near the house and closes the door. (We used to have stalker Cemal, now we have stalker Ugur.)

Ahmed gets a call: Demir and Cemal have left the hospital. He thinks this is good news. What has he got planned?

Everyone is enjoying the meal. Oyku makes sure Cemal has enough to eat. Why isn’t Ugur here, Oyku asks. We see the looks on Sevgi’s and Cemal’s faces. Demir tells Oyku that Ugur will make it up to you later. He sends you a kiss. He had to work. What work? You know Ugur; he’s always up to something. Camera on Sevgi and Cemal again. Demir hurriedly changes the subject—Candan, thank you. The food is amazing.

Mercan calls. He wants to speak with Oyku. Only for a minute, says jealous Demir. Oyku grabs the phone and runs off into her room and closes the door, with Demir yelling after her, come back, your food is getting cold! Cemal says, it’s not easy being a parent, right?

It’s later in the evening and Cemal says he should go. He thanks everyone, it was wonderful. Demir says we are the grateful ones. Oyku wants him to stay the night but Cemal says its better if he goes home to rest. Oyku says, maybe you can stay over next time. Sevgi says she should go, too. There is school tomorrow, and she will see Oyku there. Candan thanks Sevgi for her help.

Demir and Candan see their guests to the door. One last round of thank yous and Cemal and Sevgi leave. Cemal offers Sevgi a ride home saying, it’s hard to find a taxi as this time of night. She accepts the ride. Ugur is still outside, watching. He sees his Sevgi get in Cemal’s car. What’s going on? I can’t believe it, he says.

And we are out.

HIJA

Thank you, dondi356! Such an excellent recap is of no surprise; you capture every detail, every nuance, regardless of its importance.

I don't know why I am so bothered by Demir's refusal to forgive Ugur. Demir has every right to be upset with Ugur who, BTW, failed to mention that his fingerprints were on the gun and Ahmed threatened to blame him for the killing. Bt I suppose I'm so used to seeing Demir and Ugur together through thick and thin that it just doesn't sit right to have them at odds.

Yes, dondi, Cemal looks so much better when he smiles. Oyku inviting him to her welcome home celebration was the icing on the cake; too bad it was like eating nails for stalker Ugur.

So we are to believe that the bone marrow transplant has practically cured Oyku??? Well, I did a bit of research and found this at nih.gov--
Niemann-Pick disease type C2 (NPC2) is caused by the inherited deficiency of a lysosomal cholesterol transport protein, NPC2 protein. Many cases of NPC2 present in early infancy with inflammatory lung disease, with subsequent severe neurological disease and death in early childhood. This disease is theoretically correctable by bone marrow transplantation (BMT), as the NPC2 protein is small and soluble and secreted and recaptured by the mannose-6-phosphate pathway.

So Oyku will live!!

I'm wondering if Demir would have really killed Ahmed if he hadn't promised Oyku anything. Like Ugur, Demir is no killer.

So approximately 3 weeks have passed and nothing has happened between Demir and Candan? And Candan is still being so stubborn about keeping her feelings from Demir. GRRRRRR....

I really hope they don't make us hate Ugur because of his stupid jealousy.

Hija

Thanks, Rgv Chick.

The Demir/Ugur split is upsetting to me, too. I’m wondering what bad thing could happen to bring them together again. I think that Cemal will work on Demir to patch things up with Ugur as well.

As soon as I saw Cemal and Sevgi sitting side by side, I said uh, oh…. I really hope Ugur doesn’t do something stupid to further complicate the situation.

I found similar info on Niemann-Pick and bone marrow transplants; the key word here is “theoretical”. But I’m willing to accept it as a cure. Wonder what Ihsan will say in the follow ups.

I totally understand Sevgi’s disappointment and anger towards Ugur. That makes sense to me. But when Candan told Sevgi, “I honestly don’t know” regarding her relationship with Demir, I let out a loud, Oh, come on, Candan! I don’t understand. Why is she so hesitant?

Many thanks, dondi356, for another superlative recap!

One small point: I wouldn't call the beginning of last night's episode a "slight rewind." It seemed to me to go on and on and on. More than 4 minutes were devoted to stuff we'd already seen. I don't think I remember any previous rewind taking nearly that long.

Count me in as another person who is upset at the Demir/Ugur split. Ugur made a very good argument, IMHO, for why he didn't tell Demir that Ahmed killed his father, namely, that if he had told Demir, hot-headed Demir would very likely have killed Ahmed and would now be spending the rest of his life in prison. So in a sense, Ugur saved Demir by not telling him. Demir recognizes that even now, the only reason he didn't kill Ahmed is his promise to Oyku, so why can't he understand and appreciate Ugur's keeping the information from him?

And I thoroughly agree with your annoyance with Candan for "not knowing" how things are between Demir and her. Demir has even said the magic four-letter word, and she failed to use that as an opportunity to open up to him. Feh!

I'm much more understanding of Sevgi's problems than of Candan's. Candan's seem of her own making, whereas Sevgi was blindsided by Ugur's sudden breaking things off. He had told her over and over again how much he cared for her, how wonderful she is, and she has even stood her ground with her father (who miraculously seemed to be softening). And then wham! Ugur says it's over, with no real explanation except the lame, vague "it's not you, it's me." It's no wonder she's hurting and wants nothing more to do with him. This being a telenovela with only three more weeks to go, I suspect something will bring them together again in time for the gran final.

dondi, I'm glad that you and Rgv Chick found the info about bone marrow transplants as a possible cure for N-P. When I looked up the disease much earlier (when it was first mentioned), I saw several discussions, but I don't recall any of them mentioning bone marrow transplants or any other reason for optimism. I guess I didn't look in the right places. Since I hadn't found anything to suggest hope, I was trying to prepare myself for a very sad ending to the novela. I'm very glad that may not happen.

BTW, I'll do tonight's recap.

Hija

Thanks, Juanita. You are right, that was quite a long “capítulos anteriores” last night! Then came the very, very slight rewind to the previous night.

What else can poor Demir do to convince Candan? Hit her over the head with a club and drag her off by the hair?

Waiting for the women to learn truth behind the Demir/Ugur breakup. They may find out the hard way; it seems Ahmed has something bad planned for Demir and/or Ugur.

I only looked for bone marrow info once Ihsan mentioned it. Had no idea to look for it before that.

I’m beginning to think we will get a happy ending to this story. It has its dramatic moments for sure, but it’s not as dramatically dark as some of the other Turkish shows I have seen.

Last night’s episode brought us to the end of Turkish ep 28 out of 34. That sounds about right to take us to Jan 25.

dondi356

hija

Thanks so much, dondi, for a fine recap!

Don't really have much to say. I am also enjoying Cemal's redemption and seeing him smile. Also don't much like the Ugur/Demir breakup.

Other than something awful from Ahmed, I don't know what else the story has to say until January 25.

Todo por mi hija - #77 - p 1 de 3

We again see a limping Cemal leave from Demir's house after the celebration. Sevgi leaves at the same time. Cemal offers to drive her home, mentioning that taxis are hard to find this late. She accepts his offer. Ugur is hidden nearby, watching with horror. "Why is this happening?" he asks himself. "When did I become the bad guy in the movie?"

Oyku has gone to bed. Demir and Candan are seated not all that close together on the couch. "You should get some sleep." "Yes, it's been a long day." "You're going to sleep on the sofa?" There's a pause. "Yes." "OK, sleep well." Candan goes into the bedroom.

Cemal enters his apartment. He turns on the light, then reaches for the whiskey bottle and a glass. He pours himself a drink, but as he's about to start drinking, he has a flashback. He remembers Oyku telling him he's not really a bad person, and then inviting him to come home with them, he shouldn't be alone. The flashback finishes, and Cemal puts down the whiskey bottle and the glass, still full.

Ugur too is alone. And he is drinking. And feeling sorry for himself. "They invited everyone to the celebration but me. And my Sevgi--how could she go in Cemal's car?" He drinks some more, then pauses. He declares, "No! I won't accept this!"

We get a glimpse of someone sneaking up to Demir's house carrying what looks like a container of gasoline. Though we don't get a good look at him, we know who it's likely to be: Ahmed. He's spilling the gasoline all around the outside of the house. Now we know what Ahmed had in mind when he told Faik he'd deal with Demir in his own way. He lights the gasoline, and it instantly bursts into flame. The flames quickly surround the house. The cat, Suertudo, is apparently the only one up. He meows loudly, but apparently not loudly enough. Oyku and Demir begin to cough in their sleep from the smoke. Demir wakes up, sees the flames, awakens Oyku and Candan. But they're trapped. Even the door is on fire. He puts towels on them.

Someone (Mehmet) bangs on Ugur's window--Wake up!! Demir's house is on fire! Ugur rushes out of the house. As he approaches Demir's burning house, he sees neighbors trying not very successfully to pour buckets of water on the fire. He rushes toward the house yelling "Demir!" Demir hears him and yells back "Ugur! The door." Ugur grabs a bucket of water and throws it at the door. And then another. The door apparently collapses. Demir, Oyku, and Candan are able to get out. Demir carries Oyku, and Ugur helps Candan.

Oyku is very upset about the house. Demir tries to calm her down. At least they're safe. Suddenly, Oyku remembers Suertudo. Suertudo is still inside! What if he dies? She wants to go back inside to save him. She's crying hysterically. So sure enough, the Iron Man, aka Demir, pours water on himself and rushes into the burning house. He emerges a minute or two later and gives Suertudo to Oyku. Oyku cuddles Suertudo and tells the cat "Don't worry, Suertudo, everything will be OK." We see the fire engines on their way.

In the morning, the fire has been put out. Demir, accompanied by Ugur, goes back into the house to see if anything is left. The structure itself seems to have held up pretty well, but all the furnishings have been destroyed. Demir walks through the house like a zombie. "Everything has been completely burnt. Nothing is left." Well, not quite nothing. He comes upon a framed photo of (I think) Demir and Oyku. And then he finds Oyku's blue stuffed dog, Pelín, with a damaged foot but otherwise intact. He rushes out to give Pelín to Oyku.

Todo por mi hija - #77 - p 2 de 3

Oyku seems pleased with Pelín. Candan tells her that she can fix Pelín's leg. But Oyku then asks about her things--her room, her bed, her books, her backpack. All gone. Some people come by with sandwiches for Oyku and Candan. Oyku gets up and goes into the house to take a look. She sees someone carrying out the board, now broken, with "Welcome to the house, warrior princess" still on it.

Ugur brings Demir, Candan, and Oyku to his house. He finds a change of clothes for Demir, a shirt for Oyku, and what looks like a long nightgown for Candan. Ugur apologizes at not being able to find more. Oyku asks Demir, "Papa, are we homeless again?" Ugur assures her that his house is her house. Oyku then asks Demir why the house burned down. Before he has a chance to answer, Candan comes back into the living room dressed in the nightgown. Everyone laughs and tells her she looks like a grandma. Then Demir and Ugur leave to talk with the police, who are investigating the house fire. Candan and Oyku remain and try to get some sleep. But Oyku is understandably still very unhappy. When she gets into bed, she complains to Candan that the mattress is very hard. Candan tells her it's just for a while. Oyku then says, "My house was very nice." Candan tells her that they're together, and Suertudo is with us. She gets into bed with Oyku, and they hold each other tightly.

Demir is outside his burnt house, talking to the police. He tells them that there was no gasoline in the house, and the electrical work was all in good shape. The police officer tells him that the fire began outside. Obviously it was provoked. Arson. The police officer tells Demir that they'll check the cameras in the neighborhood to see whether they can learn more.

Faik comes to see Ahmed. "You burnt down his house. Why are you making things worse?" Ahmed again claims that Demir has ruined all his plans and possibilities. Ahmed has no intention of going to jail.He wants to make the problem disappear. He tells Faik to see Arif. "Ask whether he'll help me out. I couldn't get rid of Demir, but Arif can help me get rid of the police." (I'm not sure, but I assume he's thinking of killing the investigating officer(s))

Someone comes to Demir and tells him, "My father saw someone carrying a gasoline can last night." Demir asked what the guy looked like, and the guy described a guy about this tall, with a black jacket and a black beard. It's clear to both Demir and Ugur that the description fits Ahmed. Demir then turns to Ugur and says, "If you had told me about Ahmed earlier, he'd be in jail. My house wouldn't have burned down." Ugur tries to calm Demir down, but Demir is in a rage. When Ugur calls him "hermano," Demir insists, "I'm not your brother!" Demir then yells at Candan. "The house is burned, Oyku was almost killed." Candan reminds him that she was there, too. "The you should be upset, too," he replies.

Finally, Demir falls asleep. Candan is very upset. She has a look on her face that makes me wonder whether she's about to call Mu-RAT. She doesn't, but she gets her coat and leaves. Oyku wakes up. She calls Papa? Geting no answer, she goes into the living room. Demir is asleep on the couch. She wakes him up and tells him that Candan is not in the house. "Did she go in her pajamas? She didn't have any other clothes." (Actually, she did. At one point, she appears in a green dress, probably one of Mufide's.) Demir tells Oyku that she's probably at work at the clinic. He tries to call her.

Todo por mi hija - #77 - p 3 de 3

Candan is indeed at the clinic. Her phone rings. She sees it's Demir calling. She doesn't answer the phone. "Perhaps she's busy," Demir tells Oyku.

Ugur comes into the living room. He greets them jovially with "Buenas dias, familia Gokturk." Oyku is still very unhappy. Ugur offers to go for pastries and asks Oyku what kind she'd like. She doesn't care. Ugur leaves to get the pastries. Oyku turns to Demir and asks, "Papa, what will we do now? We have no house, no clothes, nothing. What are we going to do?" "Start over," Demir replies. "How?" "I have no idea," he admits. "We'll start from zero. Remember when the landord threw me out soon after you arrived? And what happened after that? We built a new home. Nothing can stop us when we're together." An inspiring statement, but Oyku isn't yet won over. "But our house was marvellous, like in a fairy tale," she says. "My room, my bed, my books." Demir tells her, "You have to believe in me. We're the Iron Man and the Warrior Princess. We'll rebuild our castle. Completely."

Well, in spite of my fears, Candan didn't call Mi-RAT, but the RAT shows up at her clinic. He heard about the house burning. "I came as soon as I heard. Are you OK? Do you want to go to the hospital for a checkup?" Candan tells him no, she's fine, and the paramedics checked them out last night. He then asks about the fire. Candan says, "We know it didn't start inside." "You see," says Mu-RAT almost triumphantly. "So it was arson. I warned you. The people Demir knows are criminals capable of anything." She stares at him rather coldly. He ignores (or is oblivious to?) the coldness and says "I'm happy you're OK. That was close." There's a pause, and then he continues, "Pack everything. We're leaving." She stares at him as the episode ends.

Hija

Thank you for another wonderful recap, Juanita. As always, great inclusion of dialog and I loved how you captured the emotion of the episode.

Thank goodness we didn’t lose the little “Lucky” charm. Thought for a second that Demir might get hurt and Candan would realize she didn’t want to lose him… but the writers decided to hurt me instead.

Ugur saved the Gokturk family last night and took them in. At least Demir managed a thank you before he ripped into Ugur later. I hope Demir quickly realizes how much he needs Ugur. Also hoping the new and improved Cemal will be the peacemaker.

Ahmed is stupid if he thinks he can get away with killing police officers. I think he wants Arif to intervene somehow, perhaps bribe, some investigators. Is this Cemal’s Arif?

Nice scene with Demir telling Oyku they will rebuild. But I fully expected Oyku to answer him, yeah dad, we lived in a tent in the park. Then we sponged off of Candan. Next we went to a hotel. And BTW, how did we get the money for the house?

It looked to me as if Candan checked her phone for the time. I hope she wasn’t thinking of The Rat. She wanted to cover Demir with the blanket, but changed her mind and left the house. Like she has had it with him and his temperament. She still doesn’t realize her part in this relationship fiasco. Now Candan is vulnerable to The Rat’s poison. I kinda have had it with her!

dondi356

Wonderful recap, Juanita. I wanted to let everyone know that I've been watching this show since October. It was really almost an accident; I hit channel down instead of channel up, and this show was on, and I became hooked. Then I found this blog, which I've been reading for a while. I just felt like I wanted to let people know that others are enjoying this blog as well, even though you may not have known it.
Looking forward to seeing how things shake out. We need the new and improved Cemal to discover the rift between the guys and get Demir to understand that their friendship is more important than this youthful indiscretion. Ugur should point out that he didn't need to come to the funeral years ago, but that he's a good person and wanted to do something to make up for the error of his ways. I'm sure there's guilt and shame as well, but if he was a bad person he wouldn't have shown up, and then where would Demir have been? Look at all the times Ugur has been there for him, saving the family from the fire and putting them up in his house, and Demir still is treating him badly. Hasn't Demir learned yet from the humility lesson that the restaurant owner gave him?
Thanks Juanita and dondi356 and rgvchick for all the great recaps so far!

Many thanks, dondi356 and Ken, for your insightful comments.

dondi356, I too was happy to see that the lucky cat was saved. Actually, when the cat started meowing at the start of the fire, I half expected that that's what would wake people up, and so they'd owe their lives to Suertudo/Lucky. Actually, though, I'm happier that they owe their lives to Ugur. It makes me furious that after all he has done for Demir et al, Demir has the nerve and stupidity to continue to berate him for not telling him earlier that Ahmed killed his father. I don't know who is more pigheaded, Demir or Candan!

Is Cemal's Arif the guy with the car dealership?

I LOVED your suggestion about how Oyku might have responded to Demir's pep talk about rebuilding! It's so true!

Ken, ¡Bienvenido! I'm delighted to know that the audience for these recaps is larger than I'd realized. I'm very happy to know that you're enjoying them. And you make some great points about Ugur and about thelesson that Demir should have learned from Kemal. I hope you'll keep commenting.

Hija

Hi Ken, Welcome! ¡Bienvenido! Hoşgeldin! Thanks for letting us know you are watching and reading. Very good points about the Demir/Ugur split. Caray is a great place. Hope you stick with us.

Juanita, yes, it was good that Ugur was the hero. Cemal’s Arif is the car dealer guy. Wondering if he is also Ahmed’s Arif. If so, who will Arif side with?

I was planning on recapping tonight but continuing news coverage is pre-empting the show in NY. Let's hope tomorrow will be a better day.

If Hija is shown tonight at 9 Pacific Time, I'll try to do a short recap. But if they haven't shown in on the East Coast, chances are it won't be shown here either.
We'll see. It's been an astonishing day, for better and worse.

Hija

They showed Hija tonight here on the West Coast. I'll do some sort of recap.

Todo por mi hija - #78 - p 1 de 3

We see a rewind of Mu-RAT telling Candan to pack her things, they're leaving. Where? asks Candan. "My house, of course," says Mu-RAT. "No way," replies Candan. "It's huge, and you don't have to see me if you don't want to" says Mu-RAT. Candan insists that it's not necessary. She's an independent woman and can take care of herself. And she can stay in a hotel if need me. Mu-RAT asks where the others are staying. At Ugur's house. "One of Demir's friends, yes?" says Demir. He continues, "I guess that's why they say things happen for a reason. Thanks to the fire, you were able to rid yourself of the guy and the house." An impatient Candan asks him to stop arguing about the same thing over and over again.

Back at his apartment, Cemal starts looking for his wallet. He can't find it.

At Ugur's, Oyku is about to go to the bathroom to brush her teeth, but there's no toothbrush. Ugur and Demir suggest she put some toothpaste on her fingers and use them as a toothbrush. But the toothbrush is not the only thing she lacks. "How can I go to school? I have no uniform, no backpack, no notebook." Demir suggests that perhaps she not go to school today. Oyku heads for the bathroom. Demir asks Ugur whether he has any money. Ugur stares at him for a moment or two and then says "Of course."

Cemal calls Demir. "Have I left my wallet at your house? I can't find it." Demir laughs. He tells Cemal that his house burned down last night. Cemal asks where he is now. At Ugur's. Cemal tells him he'll be right over. Ugur, perhaps feeling a bit jealous and/or resentful, asks "Are you becoming friends with him again?" Demir replies, "He saved my daughter's life." Demir then calls Sevgi to explain that Oyku won't be in school today because his house burned down last night. Sevgi is stunned. "Oh my God! Of course, she shouldn't come."
Oyku watches TV. Demir says he has to go to work. Ugur suggests he tell the boss about the fire, and that he can't come in today. "No," replies Demir, "he's done so much for me already."

Cemal arrives. Oyku tells him about the fire, and that her father saved her life. "Your father was a hero," says Cemal,"just like when we were kids." While Oyku watches TV, the three men go outside to talk. "So what happened?" asks Cemal. Demir tells him someone intentionally set fire to the house. Guess who. Cemal immediately guesses it was Ahmed. Demir vows, "I'll find that bastard and make him pay for everything he's done." However, right now, Demir has to go to work. "Moreover, I need an advance." Cemal says he'll pay for whatever Demir needs. Demir protests, and he points out that Cemal has lost his wallet. Cemal assures him that he has money at home. He continues, "I know I was bad to you, but let me do what I can." Ugur says he'll do his part as well. Ugur hands him some money. Demir takes only what he absolutely needs and gives the rest back. Apparently he's still unwilling to regard Ugur as the kind of friend he used to be. Demir leaves for work. As soon as he's out of the house, he calls Candan. She turns off her phone.

Cemal and Ugur take Oyku shopping. Cemal wants to buy her some clothes, but Oyku protests, "You've already bought my school uniform. That's enough." Cemal disagrees. "What will you where outside of school?" Oyku gives in. She goes with the saleswoman to try on some dresses. Ugur then asks Cemal, "Where did you get the money?" Cemal replies that he just bought a few things for his niece. "Your niece?" says Ugur. Cemal asks Ugur why he's so obsessed with Cemal's finances. He then tells Ugur that a friend lent him money. A friend from jail. Arif.

Todo por mi hija - #78 - p 2 de 3

Oyku comes out and models a lovely white dress. Cemal winds up buying that dress and perhaps another as well, in addition to a new backpack. They arrive back at Ugur's. Candan meets them outside. She has brought some food for Suertudo. Oyku wants to give some of it to him. Not yet, says Candan. Why, asks Oyku. Candan tells Cemal and Ugur that she'd like to speak with Oyku alone. The two men go into the house. Candan turns to Oyku and tells her, "I'll be staying somewhere else for a while. I don't want to imose on Ugur." Oyku is very unhappy. Candan tries to assure her that it's just for a short time. "And you can come see me at the clinic." Candan then leaves, but she looks rather unhappy.

Cemal and Oyku are watching TV and laughing at what they see. Ugur seems somewhat jealous. Demir arrives home from work. Oyku shows him all the things that Cemal has bought--the uniform, clothing, and backpack. Oyku tells him that Candan told her that she was thinking of staying elsewhere for a while. Demir wants to talk with the other two, but not near Oyku. They go outside. Demir tells them that he has talked to his contacts. No one has seen Ahmed. However, as far as Demir is concerned, that makes no difference. "I'm going to find him." Ugur argues that it's not worth it. Demir replies, "He killed my father, burned down my house, and almost killed Oyku." Ugur says, "We'll protect Oyku with our lives." "But for how long?" Demir asks. "Days? Weeks? Years?" "You're right," says Cemal. "I'm in." "Me too," says Ugur, "under one condition: no killing. Just hand him over to the police." Cemal agrees. "Maybe Ahmed can defeat one of us, but three...." He smiles.

Cemal drives up to Candan's clinic just as she's closing. However, she doesn't leave. Cemal texts Demir: "Candan is staying at the clinic."

Cemal returns to his apartment. There's a knock at his door. He opens the door and greets a friend. The friend tells him that he has a message for Cemal from Arif. Arif wants Cemal to take back the formal accusation he made to the police in which he claimed that it was Ahmed who shot him. Cemal should leave the matter to the police. Cemal protests, "He tried to kill me. And he almost killed a little girl in the house he burned." His protest does not good. "If you don't take back the denuncia, Arif won't support you any longer. You'll be on your own."

Demir comes to Candan's clinic. Candan is lying on the couch reading. "You're staying here?" Demir asks. "You're really going to stay here?" He then play the Oyku card. "Oyku is worried." Candan tells him that she has already spoken with Oyku. She continues, "Shall we tell Oyku that it was just a marriage of convenience, and now we're going our separate ways? It's what you've wanted for so long. Here's your chance. You're the one who said this relationship made no sense." Demir replies, "So you're going to give up so easily?" "I'm not giving up on Oyku," Candan insists. "I'm giving up on . . . this situation. Oyku will continue to be the most important thing in my life. But I'm asking that you tell her how and why we ended things." In the middle of their discussion, Candan's phone rings. Demir sees that Mu-RAT is the caller. Candan answers the phone. "Yes, I'm fine. We already discussed that when we were together at the clinic." Demir leaves while Candan is still on the phone.

Todo por mi hija - #78 - p 3 de 3

Cemal drives to the police station. He gets out of his car, hesitates, then enters. He finds the right office and tells the officer there that he had made an accusation, but he was afraid there had been a misunderstanding. "Ahmed didn't shoot me." Who did? asks the officer. "I don't know. I do know that it wasn't Ahmed." The police officer points out that Cemal's friends also said that it was Ahmed. Cemal claims he told them that when he was still under the influence of the anesthesia from the operation.

Cemal breaks the news to Ugur and Demal. "I told the police that Ahmed didn't shoot me." However, all may not be lost. Cemal says that probably Arif had a job for Ahmed, but Ahmed was unable to do it because the police were looking for him. "Now Ahmed will be able to do it. We can find out what the job is and arrange for the police to catch him red-handed." (I was waiting for Demir and/or Ugur to point out that Cemal tried that several times to trap them that same way, and he failed each time. However, for some reason, they didn't mention it. In fact, they seemed to feel it was a good idea!)

Oyku asks the three guys--Demir, Ugur, and Cemal--to join forces and walk her to school. They agree. Soon we see them in sunglasses walking three abreast down the street, looking vaguely like Mafia thugs. Oyku leads the way. She thinks it would be great if they would do this every day. Why? they ask. "Well, I have a great daddy who loves me a lot, and one uncle who is the sweetest (she smiles at Ugur) and the other uncle who is the most handsome (smilng at Cemal). When they arrive at the school steps, she kisses all three goodbye. Sevgi sees them. She asks Demir how he is. Fine, he says. We're staying at Ugur's house. Sevgi asks whether there's any way she can help. Demir asks whether she could watch Oyku after school; they have something they have to do. Sevgi agrees. "I can take Oyku to my house and you can pick her up later. But...where is Candan?" "They're fighting," says Ugur. Sevgi leaves. Demir is annoyed that Ugur has told Sevgi about his private life.

Demir leaves to go to work. Cemal and Ugur are walking in the street when Ugur's phone rings. Mufide is calling. Ugur tells her he was just about to call her, and all is well. He tries to tell her that there wasn't really a fire, it was just a piece of wood that caught fire. Mufide informs him that she saw pictures of the fire.

Demir is looking unhappy. He calls his boss and says he knows he's had a lot of favors already, but would the boss mind if he came in a few hours late today. The boss says OK. Demir then has a double flashback. In the first, he is yelling at Candan soon after the fire about how difficult things are. He tells her, "I'm tired of saying that everything is fine and playing the happy family." That flashback morphs into the one where Candan tells him she's not giving up on Oyku, she's giving up on...the situation. After the flashbacks, he seems in a better mood, perhaps because he regrets the way he behaved in those flashbacks and wants to apologize to Candan.

The scene shifts to Candan's clinic. Mu-RAT arrives unexpectedly. He wants to take her out for breakfast. She's not interested. She's already ordered something. They have an abridged version of their usual conversation, but this time he finally wears her down enough so that she somewhat reluctantly agrees to go out with him for breakfast. Demir arrives up the street with a lovely bouquet of flowers just in time to see Candan and Mu-RAT leave the clinic and get into his car as the episode ends.

HIJA

WELCOME, KEN!!! Glad you took the leap and joined in :-)

Juanita, I am ever so grateful for your recaps especially the one for Wednesday!! The episode didn't air in my area because of all the news coverage; and if they aired it on the West Coast, it is likely that they won't repeat for the rest of us.

Tuesday Ep.

I was glad to see that the burning of the house wasn't stretched out. And of course, Ugur had to be the one who "saved" them. For a moment I thought Demir was going to let things go, but he changed to his old stubborn self when he figured out that it was Ahmed who was responsible.

Suertudo is such a cute kitten; I'm not sure how smart it was of Demir to risk his life for him, but I'm glad he survived. Luckily, this is "just a story" :-)

I really like how these writers transition to a happier scene after so much chaos. Candan coming out in the granny dress and Oyku and Demir laughing at her provided some needed comic relief.

I was really surprised that Candan had a change of clothes at the clinic, but good for her!

Ughhh! MuRat is relentless! As a vet, Candan should have some rat poison handy...just sayin' :-)

Wednesday Ep.

So Ahmed has pull with Arif?? Small world for criminals, huh? Is whatever job Arif has for Ahmed worth more than his life which Cemal saved? It seems very odd to me that Arif would drop Cemal just like that, but oh well, there has to be more intrigue doesn't there?

At least I got to see " them in sunglasses walking three abreast down the street, looking vaguely like Mafia thugs." in the previews. I figured that would be fun to watch. How sweet that they all walked Oyku to school; she must have been on cloud 9.

dondi, I'm getting fed up with Candan too. A lot of the "situation" she is giving up on is due to her own stubbornness. She is blaming everything on Demir when she has done, or rather not done, very much to take the relationship to a higher level.

Juanita, I have to agree with your comment about Demir and Ugur thinking Cemal's idea was a good one. Maybe they should all go rub Suertudo's tummy so some luck can rub off on them.

Hija

Thanks, Juanita for another wonderful recap. So happy you were able to see this episode. We live on the east coast and it was pre-empted by the awfulness.

I'm sad that Cemal changed his mind so quickly and recanted. Arif must be paying him handsomely.

Just when these 3 guys, epecially Demir, try to find honest work and gain a sense of order and normalcy, something always pulls them back into trouble, right?

Rgv Chick, the vision of the 3 macho men all going to rub Lucky's tummy made me laugh!

Ken

hija

Many thanks, Rgv Chick and Ken, for your great comments. And special thanks for ignoring a distressing number of typos and other errors. I think I'll blame them on yesterday's real chaos, which more than rivalled what the telenovela had to offer.

Yes, Rgv Chick, I too was glad that the fire in Tuesday's episode happened relatively early, and everyone emerged relatively unscathed, even Suertudo. :-) One of the things I like about most of the novelas on Telemundo is that problems tend to be resolved pretty quickly, not strung out for weeks. Of course, Candan's stubbornness, obtuseness, call it what you will, has been going on for weeks if not months. It is getting more than a bit tiresome. As for Mu-RAT, I loved your "As a vet, Candan should have some rat poison handy...just sayin' :-)"

Ken, I'm very happy that you're continuing to post comments. And although I agree it's a bit disappointing that Cemal caved so quickly when Arif threatened to cut him loose, I think for once Cemal's plan for the police to catch a perpetrator red-handed may actually work out. ¡Ojalá!

I must say I was surprised that Telemundo showed this episode on the West Coast when they didn't on the East Coast. I haven't checked, but perhaps it's available on Telemundo's website now. They usually post the previous night's episode the next morning, complete with the possibility of subtitles.

Hija

Thanks so much for taking on the recapping duties last night. Not a short recap, and a great job as usual.

Just watched the episode online. It’s strange it ran on the West Coast; they usually don’t do that. Perhaps Telemundo ran it in the wee hours Eastern time.

Ken, I share your disappointment that Cemal recanted so quickly. Anyway, why was Demir so quick to give Cemal a pass on recanting while he holds a grudge against Ugur?

The way Demir asked Ugur if he had any money didn’t sit well with me. But I guess Demir is slowly softening his stance on Ugur.

The “sunglasses mafia” scene was cute.

Juanita, I’m in total agreement: “(I was waiting for Demir and/or Ugur to point out that Cemal tried that several times to trap them that same way, and he failed each time. However, for some reason, they didn't mention it. In fact, they seemed to feel it was a good idea!)” I expect this to backfire like the other traps because we still have a couple of weeks to go.

Isn’t Demir breaking his promise to Oyku not to get into trouble? Yes, Ken, “something always pulls them back into trouble”.

I can’t even discuss Candan. It’s a wonder she can stand without a spine to hold her up.

LOL, Rgv Chick: “As a vet, Candan should have some rat poison handy...just sayin' :-)”

I’ll do the recap tonight.

dondi356

hija

Thanks so much, dondi356, for your very interesting and astute comments. I too found it strange that Demir was so quick to forgive Cemal but not Ugur. The only thing I can think of is that by donating his bone marrow, Cemal saved Oyku's life, and nothing is more important to Demir than Oyku. (Even so, Demir should remember that Ugur essentially saved the lives of Demir, Oyku, and Candan during the fire.)

Yes, I suppose it's quite possible that Cemal's plan re Ahmed may indeed fail, just as all his previous similar plans failed. I'm just hoping this time we're all surprised. :-)

And then there's Candan (sigh). I loved your "It’s a wonder she can stand without a spine to hold her up." However, one might also say that her spine is so ridid that she's unable to bend.

And thanks for doing tonight's recap.
