Hija #79 part 1

We get another long Capitulos Anteriores at the beginning.

Demir spots Candan leaving with The Rat. (Thankfully, this is the only Rat sighting in the episode) Demir walks away and throws the flowers in a trash can.

Cemal and Ugur enter a bar. Ugur wants to know why they are here. For information, Cemal says. What kind of information? Cemal just tells Ugur to wait for him. Cemal sits down with Sali while Ugur sits at a distant table. Sali asks why Cemal wanted to meet. Cemal tells him, I want to ask you a couple of questions. Sali doesn’t want any trouble; he gets up to leave. Cemal stops him saying, we were friends in prison. Did you forget? Sali is worried about going back to jail. Won’t happen, Cemal says, you know a lot of people. I just have a few questions, that’s all. Sali sits back down.

Cemal starts, Sali, do you remember what we went through in prison? Who saved you when you were almost killed? Sali remembers. Cemal says, you owe me this much. Sali is grateful for what Cemal did but… Just two questions, Cemal interrupts. Where is Ahmed Gungor? What is he up to?

Sali doesn’t know where Ahmed is but he knows there’s a deal going down. It’s a huge deal. It’s a delivery. Ahmed asked me to join him and I am waiting for his call. Good, says Cemal, tell me more about this deal. Cemal gets the info. As they leave, Ugur asks what happened. Cemal tells him he knows what Ahmed is planning. So easily, asks Ugur? Yes, it’s thanks to the eight years I spent in prison, answers Cemal.

Back at home, Ugur and Cemal are waiting for Demir. When he arrives Cemal tells him, we know what Ahmed is up to. It’s something big. He is trying to import two trucks full of whiskey. It is illegal; they won’t pay taxes. This is Arif’s deal and he’s leaving Ahmed in charge. Cemal figures now that the police has stopped looking for him, Ahmed will be careless. Tomorrow night Ahmed will leave his hideout to do the job. Demir interjects--then we will be there to catch him. Cemal reminds Demir they need to let the police handle this. And what if Ahmed gets away, Demir asks?

Ugur says, we will report the crime and the police will handle the rest. No, says Demir, I want to be there when it happens. I want to make sure he is arrested. Cemal gives in and says they can go, but they will not interfere. Demir agrees and says, tomorrow we’ll put an end to this.

Demir gets up to leave and Ugur asks where are you going? To pick up Oyku from Sevgi’s. Ugur stops Demir and says he will go. Demir and Cemal smile at each other. Demir says, sure you can go see her…I mean… go pick up Oyku.

Ugur calls Sevgi as he arrives at her building. He’s worried that the captain might see him out there. She doesn’t answer.

Sevgi is unpleasantly surprised to see Ugur at her door. What are you doing here? He came to get Oyku. She was expecting Demir. Ugur apologizes to Sevgi. He mentions he called her. She tells him, I don’t want to answer your calls and I never will. Don’t’ call me. Ugur asks her to calm down because her father might hear. Lucky for Ugur, he’s not home. Sevgi reminds him there is nothing between them to bother her father anymore. There is nothing between us and you know it, she says. Oyku is ready and she leaves with Ugur.

Hija #79 part 2

As they walk, Oyku asks if Sevgi and Ugur are mad at each other. She overheard and she has never seen Sevgi so angry. Oyku wants to know what Ugur did to upset her. It was just a small problem, nothing to worry about and it will pass soon. Oyku asks again if he did something to upset Sevgi. No, I didn’t do anything, says Ugur, that’s why she’s upset. Oyku tells him then he should do something. She advises him not to give up, Sevgi will eventually forget she’s upset. You think so, he asks? Yes, you really care about her. Oyku is sure he will find a way to work things out. Ugur thanks Oyku for the advice saying, you are the only person who understands me, my dear niece.

Demir and Ugur set the table for breakfast. Ugur says, I’ll feel better after tonight. Demir tells him not to worry, that bastard will get his just deserts. Oyku overhears and asks, who is getting just dessert? They deflect the question. Ugur goes to the kitchen. Oyku asks Demir if he’s ok. I’m fine, why do you ask? No reason (she must sense trouble coming). What are you going to do today, she asks Demir? He’s going to work. Can I go with you, she asks? What about school? It’s Saturday. Ok, then come to work. Ugur will have to have breakfast on his own.

Oyku and Demir show up at Kemal’s. He is very happy to see her. She can help him with the books again.

Ahmed gets a call. Good news. Arif handled everything; Cemal dropped the charges and the arrest warrant is rescinded. Ahmed makes a call to Arif to thank him for helping with the police.

Candan is at the clinic and gets a call from Sevgi. How are you, Candan asks her. Sevgi says she doesn’t know what’s right or wrong. Ugur came to my home to pick up Oyku. What, to pick up Oyku? Yes, Demir was busy and he asked me to watch her. Candan seems disappointed to hear this. Sevgi tells Candan that Ugur is so annoying. He insists on seeing her. He’s trying to get closer to her. Sevgi says she doesn’t know how to react. Sevgi asks Candan if she is available to meet. Yes she is, and she needs to talk, too. Send me your location and we can meet.

Demir is working. Oyku calls him, Dad… Yes? Will you let me help you? Weren’t you going to help with the books? We are done, Oyku says, I’m bored. Can we go to the park after work? No, he tells her, I have something important to do with Cemal. He tells her he will make it up to her another time. Kemal calls Oyku back to help him.

Ahmed and Faik meet with their crew. Are we ready? Everything is in order. Ahmed tells them, we can’t make any mistakes. When do we start? At midnight, Ahmed answers. Faik says, be in position at 11 pm. Ahmed reminds them they are making a very important delivery tonight. If we do this right, you will be rewarded. No mistakes, otherwise, you will pay dearly. We see Sali is there.

Sali calls Cemal: it’s on tonight at midnight. Cemal calls Demir. He steps outside to take the call. Ahmed took the bait, he tells Demir. Someone has to watch Oyku. No problem. Demir hangs up and says, we will be face to face, Ahmed.

Sevgi and Candan meet. Sevgi says, she doesn’t get Ugur. She asks him a question and he freezes. At least Ugur is trying, says Candan, every word Demir says is like a knife to the heart. The night I left the house, Demir came to the clinic but I didn’t want to talk to him. Sevgi asks why? Maybe he wanted to apologize. Candan doesn’t know. She was very upset and didn’t want to cause a scene. So she decided to keep quiet. Sevgi says she can’t believe what they are going through.

Hija #79 part 3

While they talk, Sevgi gets a call from Demir; we only hear her side of the convo. Tonight? Why, did something happen? Yes, I’m available. Yes, of course. Did something bad happen? Sevgi tells Candan Demir is going out tonight he asked me to watch Oyku. Unbelievable, says Candan, he won’t even call me when it comes to Oyku. It’s like we are strangers. Sevgi says don’t say that. She thinks Demir might be scared to call her. She tells Candan not to be sad. Candan really misses Oyku. Sevgi suggests that Candan comes with her to babysit. Candan is reluctant. Sevgi talks her into it, we will have fun. We could have a slumber party.

That evening, Demir tells Oyku to be good for Sevgi. Oyku asks, where are you going so late? Demir counters, why the interrogation? Ugur explains to Oyku what the word means. Oyku is annoyed, I ask questions, but you never answer them. Dad…you’re not hiding something from me, are you? Did something bad happen? No, in fact something good is going to happen, says Demir. (not so fast, Demir)

There’s a knock at the door. It’s Sevgi and Candan. Oyku is surprised and happy to see Candan. I think Demir is, too. Oyku gives Candan a big hug and tells her she missed her. Candan tells Demir she knows he called Sevgi but she wanted to join her. Cemal calls and it’s time for the guys to go. Oyku kisses her dad and uncle goodbye. It’s awkward with the ladies.

Oyku wants to have a slumber party. Sevgi says they had the same idea! They will watch a movie and make popcorn.

The guys are sitting somewhere waiting for Cemal. Demir, did you notice how they looked at us, asks Ugur. Yes, and with good reason. Demir says, if I were them, I’d do the same. Cemal pulls up in his car. Cemal gets out. He has something to say before they go. Listen Demir, Ahmed is getting arrested tonight. There’s no turning back. But no one is taking unnecessary risks. Let the authorities take care of it. We won’t be the ones to punish him.

Demir is clearly frustrated. Cemal assures Demir that Ahmed will spend his life in prison for all he’s done. Demir still wants his revenge saying, if I have him in front of me…. Ugur interrupts, enough Demir. Don’t destroy our lives because of that man! Cemal agrees with Ugur. If you are planning something stupid, stop now. He tells Demir he spent eight years in prison. It’s not worth it. You won’t like being away from your daughter. Demir doesn’t look entirely convinced but he says ok, let’s go.

Back to girls’ night. They’re trying to pick a movie to watch. Candan has seen a lot of them. Here’s one says Candan. Oyku says yes, that’s a good one; the actor is very handsome. The two women smile at that. Yes, he’s handsome. Candan teases Oyku, he looks like Mercan. I missed you Candan, says Oyku, please move back in with us. Sevgi brings the convo back to the movie choice. They cuddle up with Lucky and some popcorn to watch.

Ahmed’s crew is working, loading boxes into the truck. They are exhausted and ask for a couple of minutes to rest. Faik says, no we are almost done. Then you can rest. We see our three guys hiding and watching from a distance. Ugur has never seen so much whiskey. Do you see Ahmed? Not yet.

A car arrives. It’s Ahmed. How is it going Faik? It’s going well, but we are tired. It’s not what Ahmed wanted to hear. He tells the guys to hurry; they can’t be late with the delivery.

Demir is getting anxious. Where’s the police? Did you give the right address? Ugur says, of course I gave the right address. Cemal tries to calm things, the police should be here soon. Demir says he will handle it himself if the police don’t come. Cemal reminds him about what they discussed beforehand. We will figure it out. Calm down.

dondi356

Hija #79 part 4

Ahmed gets a call from Arif. Someone called the police? Ahmed starts yelling. Damn it! Hurry! Something is wrong, Cemal says. Demir stands up and yells out, Ahmed! Ahmed sees the three guys and shouts, Demir, damn you! Both groups get into their cars and the chase is on.

We see the cops racing to the scene. Ahmed is ticked at Faik. He blames him for ruining everything by digging around in the past. Ahmed curses Demir. This isn’t over Demir, he says, you will wish you were never born.

Our guys are hot on Ahmed’s trail. Ugur wonders what happened. Cemal thinks Arif must have called to warn them. But nothing can help him now, says Cemal.

Ahmed makes a call. Listen closely, find someone close to Demir. Anyone will do. If you mess this up, you’re dead, is that clear?

Demir gets a call from Ahmed. Stop following us! Never, I’ll follow you to hell if I have to, yells Demir. Ahmed tells him, you should check on your loved ones instead. Make sure they are ok. Something could happen to them. Ahmed hangs up and Demir starts to panic. Demir tells Cemal to go home, now! What? Ahmed is planning something; we need to go home now! Ahmed sees them turn back and says, that’s it leave me alone! He tells Faik to hurry, we have to find someplace safe to hide.

Demir has a bad feeling. That bastard has planned something, he says. Demir tells Ugur to call the house to warn Candan and Sevgi. Candan doesn’t answer. Ugur tries Sevgi. Demir swears he’s going to kill Ahmed.

The ladies are engrossed in the movie and Sevgi’s phone is not near her, so they don’t hear the call. They run out of popcorn and decide to take a break. There is a knock at the door. Sevgi goes to answer thinking it must be Demir. Oyku says her dad said he’d be home much later. The three go to the door. Obviously, it’s not anyone they know. Sevgi asks, yes? The ladies look worried.

Our guys arrive home. They enter the house. It’s been turned upside down and their girls are gone. The guys are in shock.

Candan, Sevgi and Oyku have been taken to a house and are locked in a room. Candan is banging on the door yelling, open up! Open up! Oyku is looking out the windows. Sevgi looks distressed and asks, who are they? Why did they lock us up? Candan has no idea. Sevgi is increasingly upset. She doesn’t like to be in closed spaces. She’s having a panic attack. Candan tries to calm her down. Breathe. Oyku assures Sevgi that Demir, Ugur and Cemal are looking for them. Candan tells Sevgi, they have probably called the police and your father is on the way. We will be out of here soon. Calm down and take deep breaths.

Demir is ready to take action. Cemal and Ugur stop him from leaving. Ugur says he would like to kill that idiot, too, but they have to wait. Wait for what? He kidnapped Oyku, Candan and Sevgi, Demir yells. Cemal says, we have to wait for a call. Demir shouts, how do you know they will call? They want something, answers Cemal. If they wanted to hurt them, they would have done it here! They wouldn’t have taken them. They won’t hurt anyone until they get what they want. Cemal asks Demir to trust him.

Next morning, we see a car arrive at the place where the ladies are being kept. Someone gets out. Who is it?

And we are out.

Thanks very much, dondi356, for this excellent recap. You captured everything, including one amusing thing that I missed. Like Candan and Sevgi, I enjoyed Oyku's comment about the movie actor being guapo, but I missed Candan's telling her that he looks like Mercan.

Demir was driving me nuts last night. He still hasn't learned to control himself, even when a lot is at stake. Calling out to Ahmed was incredibly stupid!

One important part of last night's episode seemed highly improbable to me. It's probably a bit after midnight when Ahmed makes a phone call to someone telling him to find someone close to Demir. How could the person find Sevgi, Candan, and Oyku so fast? They're at Sevgi's, and there's no close tie between Sevgi and Demir. How would the person Ahmed called know that Candan and Oyku are at Sevgi's? And how would he know immediately where Sevgi lives?

I'm hoping to be able to do a recap tonight, but I'm not sure. The captions were fine on Hija last night, but I then tried to watch Falsa Identidad 2, only to find that the Spanish captions were hopelessly unsynced with what the characters were saying, and I couldn't get English captions at all. I'm hoping that it was a temporary glitch, but if it turns up on Hija tonight, I won't be able to watch and recap until the next morning (Pacific time), assuming that Telemundo puts the episode up in the morning with captions that work. If that happens, the recap won't be up until the middle of the afternoon, Eastern time. Of course, on Friday, that's less crucial, but still, I thought I should warn you. I won't really know what's what until I start watching Hija tonight.

Hija

Thanks, Juanita.

I have to agree with you on Demir’s behavior. He made the situation much worse.

I’m sorry I wasn’t clear on the babysitting situation. Sevgi went to Ugur’s house to babysit. Nevertheless, it was a bit of a beanie moment when Ahmed made that call and immediately one or more people showed up to kidnap Candan, Sevgi and Oyku. I suppose this was possible due to the “small world for criminals” that Rgv Chick mentioned earlier in the week. Seems a new player will be introduced next week—the man who got out of the car at the end of the episode.

If you think it’s better for me to do the recap tonight, I’ll take it. Let me know before 9p eastern time.

Hi dondi. Thanks for your reply. To be honest, I just assumed that they went again to Sevgi's house, but now that you mention it, the 2 women coming to Ugur's makes more sense. I simply wasn't thinking (again :-) ). I don't think you need to clarify anything.

Thanks very much for your offer to recap. However, I won't know until I start to watch Hija, which will be at 9 pm Pacific time--midnight on the East Coast! So let's just assume that all will be well, and I'll do the recap. If all is not well, I'll wait until tomorrow morning, watch the novela on Telemundo's website, and do a recap then. Since there's no episode on Saturday, it's not the end of the world if Friday's recap doesn't appear until 3 or 4 pm on Saturday.

hija

Thanks so much, dondi. I love your writing style; it's like seeing the episode all over again.

Me three on Demir's stupidity in standing up and yelling at Ahmed. And he was his old impulsive self the whole episode. I suppose Ahmed might have guessed who was responsible for the call to the police, but still...

I may be mixing up commenting on episodes because I watched two last night. I have a season's pass recording for Hija on DirecTV, East Coast feed. Wednesday night I stayed glued to CNN and actually watched the whole Electoral College vote certification until after 1 AM. I thought Hija recorded but it did not since, as you noted, dondi, it was not shown on the East Coast. So I had to download some NBC thing on my tablet in order to watch Wednesday's episode. Then I went right on to Thursday.

Anyway, I was hoping they'd pass on the cliché of the spurned galán throwing the flowers in a waste bin, but no such luck. And, of course, he wasn't actually spurned, just jumped to conclusions. He could have taken those flowers to Oyku and told her: "just because".

I thought they overdid it with all of Oyku's constantly butting in when the Three Amigos were "talking business". She's meant to be preternaturally in tune, but I found it somewhat annoying.

I guess we've figured out how they're going to make this last until the 3rd week of January.

Todo por mi hija - #80 - p 1 de 3

Lots of repeat from yesterday's episode. Finally, we again get to see the car drive up and the bottom half of a man gets out. Now we see that it's a whole man, older, dressed in a suit. He knocks heavily on the door. We see Faik and some others inside, along with a sleeping Ahmed. Faik wakes up Ahmed. Ahmed recognizes the voice of the man knocking. "It's Behzat!" Clearly Behzat is important. Everyone refers to him as "sir." "To what do we have the honor of your visit?" Behzat doesn't answer, he simply asks "Where are they?" "Inside." He opens the door and sees Candan, Sevgi, and Oyku. Candan demands to know who he is and what he wants. "You don't need to know who I am," he tells her. Candan replies, "I don't know who you are, but you're making a big mistake." Behzat tells her it's Demir who has made a big mistake.

Hearing her father's name, Oyku now gets into the act. "What are you going to do to my father? You can't hurt him, because he will destroy you all." "How cute," says Behzat. He then tells Oyku, "Your father has a debt with me." Candan wants to know what debt. "None of your business," he tells her. He now calls Demir, who has been impatiently waiting for a call. "Who are you?" asks Demir. He then continues, "If you hurt my daughter, if you even touch a hair on her head, I'll kill you!" Behzat tells him he's about to hang up, and it's too bad, because your daughter wanted to talk to you. Wait, wait, says Demir. Behzat then tells him, "You made me lose a lot of money last night. You have to pay for the damages." Demir asks "How much?" "One hundred million. And you have only until tomorrow." Demir can't imagine how he can get that much money so fast. He asks to speak with his daughter. Oyku gets on the phone. Demir asks whether she's OK. She says she is, and she tells him not to worry. Before Demir can say anything else, the call is cut off.

Cemal calls Arif, hoping Arif can provide the money. Arif tells him he ruined the deal Arif had, and he wants nothing more to do with Cemal. Ugur says the only thing left to do is get the money by robbing it. Cemal asks Ugur, "Do you want your mother to have an attack? No one robs anything." The three of them decide there's one more person to try: Mu-RAT. Cemal tells Demir that he's not in this alone, the three of them are in this together. And off they go to Mu-RAT's.

As soon as Mu-RAT opens the door and sees them, he asks, "Did something bad happen to Candan?" Demir tells him that bad guys kidnapped Candan and Oyku. "They wanted revenge against me." Mu-RAT doesn't believe him. "You're trying to fool me. You're con men." Mu-RAT finally agrees to provide the money, but first they have to go to the police. They argue with him, but Mu-RAT insists he'll do it his way. Ugur's phone rings. He doesn't want to answer it, and he doesn't want to cut off the call. It's Captain Hussein. Ugur finally answers. Hussein asks, "Is my daughter with you? Where is she? Did something bad happen to my daughter? Tell me!" Cemal, Ugur, and Demir drive together to the police station. Mu-RAT drives separately. Hussein greets them as we might expect. "I warned my daugher!" Ugur apologizes. Demir tells Ugur not to apologize. He explains to Hussein, "It was my fault. Ugur did nothing bad." He then pleads with Hussein, "From one father to another, please save my daughter and yours."

They leave the police station and tell Mu-RAT they've done what he said, they've gone to the police, now when can they have the money? Mu-RAT tells them that he'll figure it out with the police, not with them.

Todo por mi hija - #80 - p 2 de 3

Oyku says she's not tired, but she is thirsty and cold. Candan bangs on the door and yells for a blanket and some water for Oyku. Her request is turned down. Sevgi now says she feels ill. She starts to have another panic attack. Candan and Oyku try comforting and calming her, at first with no success. Then Oyku asks, "Do you know what I do when I'm afraid? I dream about nice things. One time I dreamed about Candan and my father getting married. It helps." She tells Sevgi, "Give me your hand. Close your eyes. You and Ugur are having a good time at the beach." We see what she's envisioning, and apparently so too does Sevgi. Oyku asks, "Feeling better?" Sevgi says she is. "You're the best, Oyku," she says. "You too," Oyku replies.

Demir, Ugur, and Cemal are worried that Ahmed could keep the money and the girls. Cemal says we need an advantage over them. Demir suggests that they keep Mu-RAT out of their planning. Cemal announces, "The Three Musketeers are back!"

Sevgi is worried about Oyku. She has eaten nothing but the popcorn they had when they were watching TV. But Sevgi is also very impressed with Oyku. "She didn't scream or cry. She just calmed me." Candan agrees, "We can all learn from her." There's a smile on the sleeping Oyku's face. Candan says she's probably dreaming. We see her dreaming of her father as Iron Man (with an iron pot on his head) rescuing her, Candan, and Sevgi. Candan hugs Demir. Oyku in her dream says "My father always rescues me, no matter what." She then says this same thing aloud.

The Three Musketeers (TTM) come into a cafe. They tell someone they know (Aikan?) that they're looking for Faik. He claims he hasn't seen Faik in a while. They don't believe him. He then tells them about Ahmed's ruined deal. "We already know about that. Tell us something we don't know." Aikan says that before Ahmed's ruined deal, Faik was looking for a house they could use as a safe place. Aikan says he sent Faik to an acquaintance who had an empty house. Cemal tells him to write down the address, we don't have much time. Cemal takes the address, and TTM leave. As soon as they're gone, Aikan makes a phone call. "The idiots took the bait," he says. In the car, Demir expresses his uneasiness. "Don't you think we were too lucky?"

Sevgi can't sleep. Candan suggests that she lie down on the mattress. Sevgi doesn't want to do that. What she does want is not to cry or get upset any more. Moreover, "I'll make up with Ugur. He has said he was sorry and apologized so many times. Life is too short. Anything could happen at any time. It's ridiculous that it took this to make me realize."

Oops, making up is apparently contagious. Candan now says "I think I'll make up with Demir. I can't believe how unfair I was. He tried proving that he loved me so many times." Sevgi urges Candan to tell him. Don't hide your feelings for him again. Candan asks, "Why do you think we fell in love with these men?" Sevgi replies, "They both have big hearts. They look like hopeless thugs on the outside, but inside they're innocent children. (Well....) They made mistakes in the past and chose the wrong path, but they were alone and desperate. They nver got to grow up, and they're still children (She has a point there). Perhaps if they'd had a family, things would have been very different for them." Candan says, "But it's not too late...to be together, to have a family, to love and be loved." Sevgi adds, "If we support them and make them feel they're worthy of happiness, perhaps we can help them find the right path."

Todo por mi hija - #80 - p 3 de 3

The Three Musketeers go to the address they were given. Cemal picks the lock and they enter. There's no one there. They decide to wait. Ahmed has to come back.

Faik is on the phone with Ahmed. Faik tells his brother he'll be there soon and will handle things.

Ugur worries about Sevgi, and Demir worries about Candan. Soon, though, they begin to argue with each other, who did what to whom and which things were worse. Before long, all three of them are at each others' throats. But then both Ugur and Cemal apologize for how they have hurt Demir. And then they argue about which one hurt Demir more!

Faik arrives. He opens the door, and the three guys grab him. Faik claims that he thought Ahmed was there, that's why he came. They tell him to call his brother. He does so, and immediately tells Ahmed "It's not my fault, they set up a trap." I think this is all part of the plan Ahmed and Faik have arranged. At any rate, Demir gets on the phone and tells Ahmed that they want to propose a trade--the three girls in exchange for Faik. Demir also tells Ahmed, "Stop working for Resat. Now work for us. Tell us where you are. We're going to rescue the girls and you're going to help us." "Really?" replies Ahmed. Demir continues, "It's a good deal. The girls in exchange for your brother. Just that. No money is involved. It's a good exchange. What do you say?" "I say no," replies Ahmed, as the episode ends.

HIJA

Thursday Ep.

dondi356, superb recap! I am still in awe of all the details you capture and interpret so well.

I'll be #4 at the table that thinks Demir was really stupid to stand up and shout out at Ahmed. Did he really think that Ahmed would freeze and give himself up to him? Ay! Ay! Ay! Estos hombrecitos tontos!

dondi, "it was a bit of a beanie moment when Ahmed made that call and immediately one or more people showed up to kidnap Candan," My thoughts exactly! It seemed that Ahmed had preplanned it...but how could he if he had no knowledge that the 3 amigos were going to turn him in??

Friday Ep.

Juanita, I always find some detail or conversation that I missed in your recaps, Thank you for your all-encompassing recap!

Like novelera, I know that Oyku is preternaturally supposed to be in tune, but lately, she had been responding like any other young child; so I was a bit annoyed and perturbed at her standing up to Rehzat. It wasn't as surprising when she stood up to Cemal because she had already dealt with him several times, but this time, no se, it just bothered me. And why didn't Candan and Sevgi hold her back?? Two grown women and they're allowing a child to stand up to a dangerous man???

"Candan now says "I think I'll make up with Demir. I can't believe how unfair I was. He tried proving that he loved me so many times." So it took this for her to realize how unfair and STUBBORN she has been??? Ay! Ay! Ay! Estas mujercitas tontas!

The Three Musketeers are turning into the three mouse-keteers...falling into the sly cat's trap. Demir should have listened to his inner voice...and the other two have more than enough experience to know when something is "too easy." I was confused with Faik's role in the trap. Did Ahmed set him up or was Faik following the plan? The look he gave when Ahmed said "No" to Demir's proposition seemed to indicate that he was surprised at Ahmed's response.

hija

Thanks VERY much, Rgv Chick, for your very perceptive comments. I too was not certain about Faik's role at the end. At first I wasn't sure that he was in on the plan, but then I remembered his telling Ahmed that he was almost there and would handle things, and I decided that probably meant that the entire scene went as Ahmed and Faik had planned. But I wasn't and still am not sure. Was Faik's look of surprise planned or spontaneous? I guess we'll find out next week.

You make a good point about Candan and Sevgi not trying to restrain Oyku from standing up to Behzat. Hmmm...It was only when I read your saying "standing up to Rehzat" that I wondered whether at the end, Demir had insisted that Ahmed stop working for Behzat, not "Resat," which is what I thought I had heard him say. My guess now is that he actually said Behzat.

Frankly, I found it a bit much that BOTH Sevgi and Candan came to their senses about the men they love at the same time. That scene seemed to me a bit over the top. Then again, in some ways I'm glad that they came to their senses BEFORE being rescued by the men (as I assume they will be). Their change of heart should come from more than just gratitude for being saved.

Finally, I loved your "The Three Musketeers are turning into the three mouse-keteers...falling into the sly cat's trap." Yes, all their experience with being double-crossed should have made them more wary all along. But then I guess we wouldn't have the material for the final couple of weeks of the novela. :-)

Hija

Thank you for another fabulous recap, Juanita.

For me, two scenes stand out in this episode.

1-The Sevgi - Candan convo. What Sevgi said---Candan needed to hear it. Finally, Candan! Yes, it took a kidnapping to figure this out. Perhaps a bit over the top, Juanita, but isn’t this typical of any soapy show?

2-The airing of the grievances between Three Musketeers (or Mouseketeers, as Rgv Chick said). This was a talk they needed to have. Please now, let’s move on together.

So now all the major good guys are in danger and I’m worried again that we might not get the HEA we hope for. Especially since Candan is ready to declare her love for Demir and Sevgi will make up with Ugur. Maybe Cemal will be ok because he’s already been shot. I think Oyku will be off limits.

As soon as the 100 million dollar question was asked, we all knew what was coming next. I hated to see Demir go hat in hand to The Rat. He thought he had no other choice at the time.

Candan and Sevgi were worried about Oyku not having food or drink but no one mentioned her medications. Oyku doesn’t have to take them anymore? We haven’t heard much about her medical condition after the transplant. Is she considered cured?

So Resat is the big bad in town. (I checked--Turkish ep has his name as Reşat.) But Ahmed still wants to exact his personal revenge against Demir. I guess Resat expects the money and Ahmed plans to kill Demir during the exchange. Whatever his plan is, I think Ahmed doesn’t care what happens to Faik in the end. Ahmed blames Faik for his problems. What a brother! And Mu-Rat probably would think it’s worth 100 million to get Demir out of the way.

Hija

Excellent recap, Juanita, thank you!

I agree with you that it seemed strange that Sevgi and Candan suddenly seem willing to try to make up with their guys. Perhaps being kidnapped and worrying about whether they'll get out alive makes them re-think their priorities in life should they escape? I thought it more plausible that they would get even angrier at Demir and Ugur because it seems obvious the the reason they were kidnapped is because it's payback for some mistake that Demir and Ugur have made. Is it possible that Candan and Sevgi actually thought that this kidnapping was random? If they did, they don't anymore because Behzat made clear that they are paying for Demir's mistake.

I have to disagree a little with Rgv Chick about Oyku's behavior towards Behzat. Remember this is now the second time Oyku has been kidnapped in her life, and she's only 9! The first time, when Jillet and Cemal and thugs kidnapped her, she didn't back down. She threatened Jillet that he would pay for this, and she wouldn't keep quiet, and was even smart enough to use her guard's phone when he left to go to the bathroom. She isn't scared and is very brave!

I do agree that the 3 musketeers have fallen into a trap, yet again. What they don't realize is that Ahmed doesn't think much of Faik, always calling him an idiot and blaming him for EVERY thing that doesn't go perfectly. I almost think Ahmed thinks of Faik as rather disposable, so in Ahmed's mind, this trade is of no value.

Looking forward to seeing how our guys come in and save the day. It won't be easy; it appears Cemal is cashing in all his favors, and there aren't many people left that are willing to assist them.

Many thanks, dondi356 and Ken, for your terrific comments. Good question, dondi, about Oyku's medications. I think that the last time we saw her go to school, none of the Three Musketeers mentioned "be sure to take your pills," not even Demir. So perhaps the bone marrow transplant supposedly cured her. ¡Ojalá! And I hope your fear that we may not get a HEA ending is unfounded. I mean, would they really cure Oyku, have the two women reconcile with their men, and have the Three Musketeers back together unless they were planning a happily ever after ending? That would be an unforgivable deception!!

dondi, what do you make of the crime boss's name? The caption I saw when Behzat first appeared definitely had his name starting with a B. And I think but am not sure that at the end of the episode Demir insisted to Ahmed that he was no longer to work for Resat. I didn't even connect the similar sound until I read Rgv Chick's comment. Are Behzat and Resat the same person?

Ken, I don't think that the women were under the impression that the kidnapping was random when they vowed to get back together again with Ugur and Demir. As you say, Behzat made it clear that Demir was the cause of his anger, and IIRC he made that clear before the women had their Miraculous Change of Heart. And I agree, the Three Musketeers don't realize that Faik isn't much of an incentive for Ahmed to agree to the exchange.

Can the novela writers really string this problem out for two more weeks? If not, I wonder what else will be thrown at the good guys before (I hope) the Happily Ever After ending?

Hija

I don't doubt you saw Behzat in your subtitles, Juanita. I used English subs last night and they all said Resat and the dubbing seemed to pronounce it that way. There's often issues with the pronunciations and captioning of the Turkish names.

Because of what you wrote, I watched some of the Turkish ep with Turkish subtitles and the bad guy is definitely named Reşat. This is pronounced as "Rehshat". Does that sound like Behzat to a caption device?

I'm leaning towards an HEA (¡Ojalá! and Inshallah!) but I've seen several tragic or bittersweet endings so I worry. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Terrific recap, Juanita! I enjoyed your vivid descriptions.

Well, I am confused about the big whiskey caper. I remember when Cemal got out of prison and went to extract favors for having kept Arif (or is it Arik?) out of the hands of the prison bullies. He apparently owned a car dealership and had plenty of spare cash to set Cemal up with an apartment, nice furniture, and a car. So...why is this guy involved in a whiskey plot?

Something about those guys loading up boxes of whiskey made me think of old movies where some not-so-bad guys are trying to keep away from the "revenuers" during Prohibition. I read that NASCAR somehow grew out of those bootleggers developing fast cars to escape the "revenuers".

So I suppose we are to believe that Arif and Resat are somehow both involved in this plan to import whiskey without paying tax. They weren't stealing the whiskey? They were moving it into Istanbul and avoiding customs duty? I know the point of all this is having the women and Oyku in danger, but I'd like it to make more sense.

Murat! He just kept saying, even in front of the police, that Demir and Ugur were just trying to extort money from him. He sure lived in a swanky house. Being a doctor and, I think, an administrator at a hospital must pay well.

When the women were musing about the guys having gone wrong because of no families, I was thinking: "What's Mufide? Chopped liver?

I am enjoying the musketeers working together and seeing Cemal smile. He's also clearly the brains of the group. Like Juanita, I wonder how they're going to string this thing out for two weeks.

Thanks very much, novelera, for your great comments. My assumption is that Arif has gotten moderately rich by having a hand in a variety of illegal schemes like the whiskey plot. That's probably why he and Cemal met in prison--not all his schemes panned out. But what the hierarchy is with Arif and Resat, I don't know. Both men are angry that the whiskey plot didn't work and wound up costing them lots of money. But exactly who lost what and why isn't clear, except for Resat's claim that he's out 100 million.

Good point about Mufide! I know that Demir and Cemal were in the orphanage, but Demir didn't meet Ugur until after Demir had left the orphanage. Do we know anything specific about Ugur's childhood? I've always felt that one of Ugur's problems is that he has a mother who dotes on him and caters to him far too much. Quite a different problem than the one Demir and Cemal apparently faced.

I think Cemal is the most polished and has by far the most self control of the group, but I'm not sure I'd say he is clearly the brains. Let's not forget that he tried three times, I think, to trap Cemal and Ugur, and he wound up ultimately being unsuccessful even the third time. And his lack of success was caused in part by Demir's outsmarting him. And in last night's episode it is Demir who is uneasy about how smoothly things are going.

Thanks, dondi356, for the info about the name of the crime boss. I've noticed that at times the spelling of a name will change in the captions, sometimes substantially, from episode to episode. If the Turkish captions said Resat (I can't make the mark under the s), I'll call him that from now on.

HIJA

Ken, the wonderful thing about Caray is that everyone's opinion and interpretation is welcomed and appreciated, it makes for interesting conversation; so by all means feel free to disagree :-) I do remember Oyku not backing down and threatening Jilet, but in that situation, she had no one else to defend her and she was still the fearless, brave little girl (who was more like an adult) that we all came to know. As of late, Oyku has become more vulnerable and sensitive and acting more like the little girl that she should be (IMO), probably because of her illness; and for that reason, I did not find her "bravery" as entertaining as the first time. But I do agree with you that she "isn't scared and is very brave!" She is quite a remarkable little girl and she even showed much more aptness in calming Sevgi than Candan!

dondi356, thank you for clearing up the names. I suspected that Reşat was the only big baddie, but couldn't be sure. Sometimes the actors mumble or speak too fast and I have difficulty understanding exactly what they are saying...and I have no doubt that the same occurs with the "translators." BTW, Juanita, I couldn't make that mark under the s, so I cheated; I copied and pasted it from dondi's comment (Teeheehee :-)

Rgv Chick, I liked your solution to the "s" character, so I tried copying Resat's name in your message. Didn't work. It got copied as Resat. :-( Then I tried from dondi's message. Ditto. I love ClipMate, my clip manager, but it does have one big fault: it can't deal with letters above a certain ASCII range (nor can it deal with graphics). It handles all the "usual" accented characters like á ç ü as well as ¡ and ¿, but not characters that don't appear in Spanish, French, etc. I've tried other clip managers that CAN handle those, but I've always gone back to ClipMate because it has features I love and use that none of the others I've tried have. Hmmm...I've just thought of a possible way around this, but I won't be able to test it out now. Gotta run.

Hija

Thanks, Rgv Chick, I like seeing all these points of view as well!
I think Oyku's bravery and toughness come from 2 things: 1. Learning how to be on her own and be self-sufficient while Zeynep was "raising" her, and 2. Her supreme confidence that Demir will come in and save the day. This confidence causes her not to be afraid of the kidnappers, and also allows her to remain calm because she knows in her heart that everything will work out. I too, was touched to see her be able to transfer that calmness to Sevgi when she really needed it.

Juanita, I like your term "Miraculous Change of Heart" :)

novolera, I have read also that NASCAR began exactly as you describe. And, speaking of Mufide, where is she? I fear we might not see her again? How long are Turkish weddings? I know that rich Indian weddings can turn into family gatherings that last weeks... it seems strange that we haven't seen her in a while.

Ken

Hija

You are right, novelera, what about Mufide? I remember Ugur telling Demir he wished he had a father like him. Ugur said his father didn’t do much with him or for him. Can’t be sure if he died while Ugur was young. I guess there wasn’t much Mufide could do to keep Ugur off the streets. Ugur conned her, too.

Ken, I didn’t expect Mufide would stay away for so long. Ugur wanted her to come home but now I’m sure he’s glad she’s staying away. From what I’ve seen, Turkish weddings are not lengthy affairs. But they have certain customs leading up to the day. Kind of how we have showers and bachelor parties, etc.

novelera, I’ve seen bad guys using car dealerships as a cover for illicit activities in some Turkish shows. Is that a Turkish Mafia stereotype? Like the “carting business” is for Mafia here? Don’t know.

I don’t bother with the Turkish diacritics in my recaps. Why bother if Spanish pronunciations are used in the dubbing? They are not used in the captioning, either. So, no umlauts over the o and u in Oyku, no breve over the g in Ugur and Reşat will be Resat. When I want to use diacritics, I use alt keystrokes on my laptop.

dondi356

hija

What a marvelous place is Caray Caray! Dondi, I never thought I'd see "umlaut" in an internet post! I also use the alt key to type diacritics when I type a Spanish word in my recaps and/or comments.
