Just confirming that I'll do a recap of tonight's episode.

Todo por mi hija - #88 - p 1 de 4

We again get lots of rewind, ending with the episode in the park. Oyku goes to retrieve a volleyball and sees a paper bag lying on a bench. She looks around and then takes the bag, opens it, and looks inside. Wow! Mucho dinero! She closes the bag and puts it in her backpack.

Oyku and Candan return home (i.e., to Ugur's). Candan asks whether she's hungry. Not much. Would you like a piece of fruit? Yes. Oyku then says she wants to study in the bedroom. Candan points out that there's no desk there. Oyku says OK, but I want to change my clothes. She goes into the bedroom and takes the white bag with the money out of her backpack. She looks at it and then hides it under the bed's mattress.

Demir and Ugur return. At the dinner table, Candan asks Ugur whether he, too, is working as a waiter. No, in the kitchen. Oh, as a chef? No, washing dishes. Demir tells Ugur that if he works hard, perhaps he'll get a promotion, A glum Ugur says yeah, I can hope to be promoted to bus boy. During the conversation, Oyku is quiet. Demir asks, "Are you OK? Usually you have a lot to say. Are you upset?" Oyku says she's not upset, just tired. This too worries Demir, and he feels her head. No fever. "Why are you tired? Do your knees hurt?" No. Then she tells him she has a math test next week, and she asks whether he'll help her. Ugur laughs at the notion of Demir helping Oyku with math.

Oyku goes to bed, and Demir gets into bed with her and tells her a story about the Iron Man and the princess who, of course, live happily ever after. "I love you." "I love you, too." "Are you in pain and not telling me," he asks. No, Papa. Demir leaves the bedroom. As soon as he's gone, Oyku gets the bag out from under the mattress, checks on it, and puts it back. She then goes to sleep.

Demir tells Candan he wishes they could spend all day together. She reminds him that he has to go to work. He asks what she is going to do that day. She recites a bunch of tasks--cleaning, cooking, etc. She suggests that she can invite Sevgi and Cemal for dinner, so everyone can be together. Demir thinks that's a good idea. He gives her some money to buy food. She tells him that's not necessary, she can use her credit card. He'd rather she used cash. Demir and Ugur then accompany Oyku to school.

In the schoolyard, Oyku spots Mercan and calls him over. She tells him that she found money yesterday. "I didn't count it, but it was a lot." "Whose was it?" "I don't know. There was no one nearby, so I took it." "Did you tell your father?" "No, I'm scared." "What will you do?" "Let's talk later."

Ugur calls Sevgi and suggests that they spend the day together. She can't, she has to go teach. (Why is it only the women who are sensible about these things?) Demir asks Ugur to let him speak to Sevgi. He asks her whether Oyku has had any setbacks. No. He tells her that Oyku told him that she has a math test next week and asked for his help. He found this strange. Sevgi tells him that the math test was last week. He thanks her and gives the phone back to Ugur. Ugur says all kinds of sweet things to Sevgi and ends the call. Demir explains his concern about Oyku. Ugur says she was just confused, no big deal. Demir is worried that that may be a symptom. He calls Dr. Ihsan and explains that Oyku got lost and also was confused about a test at school. The doctor asks whether she's having any pain. When Demir says she's not, Dr. Ihsan says it doesn't sound serious, Demir shouldn't worry.

Todo por mi hija - #88 - p 2 de 4

Candan is making the bed where Oyku sleeps. She's straightening the sheets, and her hand goes very close to the bag. After several minutes of commercials, we find that she doesn't discover the bag Oyku has hidden.

Demir and Ugur rush up to the restaurant. They missed the bus and are worried that they're late. Cemal greets them and assures them that the boss hasn't yet arrived.

Oyku and Mercan are again discussing Oyku's having found the bag of money. Mercan first tells her that she should inform Candan, but Oyku says she can't. They need the money. They don't have a house, they don't have furniture, and Demir even has to borrow clothes from Ugur. Mercan says he still feels she should tell her father. Right after he says this, Ilayda comes by. She wants to know what they're talking about. Apparently, she didn't overhear them, and they're not about to tell her.

At the market, Candan buys food for dinner. The total comes to more money than she has. She says she won't take one item. The total is then less, but she has to search her wallet to come up with the small change she needs.

At the restaurant, Demir comes over to a table where a man and a boy are seated. The man orders two hamburgers. He asks the boy what he'd like to drink. The boy says nothing. The man orders two lemonades. The boy looks very unhappy. When the food comes, he tells the man, apparently his father, that he doesn't feel like eating. The man tells him that they talked about this, and he has to eat.

In the classroom, one of the students asks whether she can take up a collection from the students to buy food for the cats that hang around the school. Sevgi gives her permission. The girl starts going from desk to desk. When she gets to Oyku's, Oyku tells her that she'll give her money tomorrow.

Back at the restaurant, the man is instructing his son to say that the food has made him sick. The boy starts to moan and say he doesn't feel well. Demir overhears the conversation and remembers when he did the same thing with Oyku. Oyku had refused to do it. Demir had insisted. Oyku again said no, and Demir threatened to send her to the orphanage if she didn't do what he said. Demir comes over to the table and quietly tells the father, "You don't have to do this." The father tells Demir "You made him ill." Demir still tries to dissuade the father from doing this. The father threatens to call the police. Demir tells the father to sit down. He tells him, "If you don't have the money, this isn't the way." The man confesses that he doesn't have money, and he's doing it for the boy. Demir proposes that he'll bring the man the bill, but the money will be inside it. The man should pretend that he's paying.

Demir then goes into the kitchen and asks Ugur for money! Ugur doesn't have much, but he gives him what he has. Demir then finds Cemal and hits him up for money as well. Demir then presents the bill to the man, with the money inside. The man slowly gives the bill with the money to Demir. Demir thanks him and wishes him a good day. On the man's way out, Demir says quietly, "Don't do this again. Don't put your son through this."

Candan and Oyku are back at Ugur's. Oyku asks her, "If you had a secret, would you tell me?" Candan thinks about it for a few seconds and replies, "I'm not sure. I might not tell you if it was a big secret. Why do you ask?" "No reason."

Todo por mi hija - #88 - p 3 de 4

The Three Musketeers leave work at the end of the day. Ugur is tired and wants to take a taxi. Demir is angry and says they don't have any money. He then tells them about the man and his son. He mentions that they boy was the same age as Oyku. Cemal says indignantly, "How could someone make their child do something like that?" (His question surprised me, given all the unsavory things Cemal has done.) Demir confesses, "I did the same with Oyku. I shouldn't have done that. I'm a new man, thanks to her. She's a blessing and the light of my life." Ugur adds, "We're all changed thanks to Oyku."

Sevgi is sitting before her mirror putting on makeup. She's also got on a very attractive blouse and jacket. She leaves her room and tells her father that she's going to meet Candan. He's immediately suspicious. "Are you meeting her in a house? Is that no-good Ugur going to be there?" She tries to defend Ugur, but her father tells her "You're not going anywhere. I know their kind." Sevgi says "They've changed." Hussein insists, "That never happens. Put on your pajamas and make me some tea." For once, Sevgi defies him. "I'm going. I won't be home late." And out she goes.

Oyku and Candan have set the table. Demir, Ugur, and Cemal arrive. Demir fears that he didn't give Candan enough money for the dinner. Candan assures him he did. Sevgi arrives, bearing a gift. They all sit down. Sevgi is quiet. Ugur asks what's wrong. Nothing, I'm fine, replies Sevgi. Ugur doesn't believe her. Sevgi decides to go into the kitchen to help Candan. After she's gone, Cemal observes, "When a woman says nothing's wrong, there definitely is."

After dinner, it's time for Oyku to go to bed. "Who's going to tuck me in?" she asks. She looks at all of them and chooses Candan. Candan tells Demir not to be jealous, he tucks her in most nights. Demir tells Ugur not to be jealous. Ugur says "My time to be a father will come." Perhaps Ugur's statement has made Sevgi decide she has to leave, she doesn't want to get back late. Ugur will walk her back. After they leave, Demir says to Cemal, "Warnings for Ugur." "Yes, I noticed," says Cemal.

Ugur tries to talk to Sevgi on the way back to her house, but she answers everything in monosyllables. Finally she tells Ugur she doesn't want her father to see that Ugur is with her. Oops, too late, out comes Captain Hussein. "I told you not to see him," he says. Ugur explains, "I was just escorting her home." "Who gave you permission to be with my daughter?" asks Hussein.
(I'm a little confused. I thought Hussein had finally come round after the Three Musketeers had helped him arrest Resat. Oh well....)

A dejected Ugur walks home alone. His phone rings. There's a text from Sevgi: "I've had a talk with my father. It would be best if we stopped seeing each other. Take care of yourself." When Ugur arrives back at his house, Demir sees that all is not well. What happened, he asks. Ugur tells him about the scene with Hussein and the text from Sevgi. Demir thinks that perhaps Sevgi is upset because she was expecting more from Ugur. Ugur isn't sure what Demir means. "Perhaps she was hoping that you'd propose," explains Demir. "What do you mean, propose?" asks the clueless Ugur. "As her to be your novia," says Demir. "If that's what she wants, I'd understand why she's upset. Hussein will try to keep you apart, but if you two have a formal arrangement, he can't do anything." Ugur thinks about what Demir has said, but he points out that he has no money. How can he propose? Demir tells him, "Candan and I don't have any money, but we make it work" (Yes, by borrowing from your friends.)

Todo por mi hija - #88 - p 4 de 4

Ugur decides he should immediately ask Sevgi to be his novia. Demir stops him and points out that it's late at night. Ugur realizes that Demir is right. Moreover, "Hussein won't like my asking permission to date Sevgi, and if I ask Sevgi, she'll be afraid to tell him, and things will be as bad as they are now." But then Ugur has what he thinks is a better idea: "I'm going to ask her to marry me!" Demir asks how he can do that, since his mother isn't here. Ugur replies, "I"ll ask again when my mother is back." He takes out his phone. Demir tries unsuccessfully to take it from him. Ugur calls Sevgi, who is sitting in bed in her pajamas. The phone rings. She sees that Ugur is calling. She hesitates. Finally she answers the phone: "What do you want, Ugur?" "Sevgi, I'm coming over tomorrow to ask for your hand in marriage." We see a stunned Sevgi as the episode ends.

OT:

FINALLY! Gran Final for "FALSA IDENTIDAD 2". I doubt it'll come back for a 3rd Season.

HIJA

Juanita, you brought life to this rather drab episode; and your sides were spot on, thank you! It seems that the writers are grabbing at straws to prolong the finale...hmmmm

Oyku's little "setbacks" seem to be an attempt to fool us into thinking that she is having a relapse, but it's too late in the game for that, isn't it?

If only Candan would be a bit more perceptive; she should have sensed that Oyku has a secret that needs to be told. Candan almost discovering the money is another attempt to keep us on edge...didn't work for me.

Regarding Cemal, "His question surprised me, given all the unsavory things Cemal has done." It surprised me too; he must have short-term memory problems. He's not Oyku's father, but what he did to her when he kidnapped her and tried to lie about being her father was reprehensible.

I think Hussein has come to tolerate the three amigos, but I don't think he ever approved of Sevgi's relationship with Ugur...and honestly, I don't blame him. What is Ugur thinking? He hasn't even asked Sevgi to be his novia and he wants to marry her??? I can't wait to see how Hussein reacts when Ugur asks for Sevgi's hand in marriage.

Hija

Thank you so much, Juanita. Fabulous recap. Ever grateful for the dialog you include, and your asides were great. Loved the rhetorical, “(Why is it only the women who are sensible about these things?)”

I agree with you and Rgv Chick on all counts. Especially Cemal’s “short-term memory problems”. Although, I am enjoying the new and improved version of him.

The wedding proposal should be amusing. Would be better if Mufide were there. Did anyone tell her?

Seems the last couple of episodes will be spent tying up loose ends on the way to a happy ending. That’s fine with me. I think we deserve it for seeing this through.

I’ll recap the two hour episode tonight and if I heard correctly, I’ll have a two hour gran final to recap on Monday!

Thanks very much, Rgv Chick and dondi356, for your wonderful comments.

Rgv Chick, I think/hope you're right about it being too late to spring more health threats on Oyku. However, like Demir, I tend to be a worrywort. :-) And yes, Hussein certainly has good reason to be less than delighted about Ugur. I remember how convinced I was early on that Ugur was so hopelessly clueless, ignorant, and inept that Sevgi couldn't possibly take him seriously. Over time, of course, she has changed her mind dramatically, and although I still think he's clueless, ignorant, and inept (all of which qualities were on display last night), I think he's also immensely loyal, warm, and at times surprisingly inventive. I'm rooting for him to win over Hussein, though I can't imagine how.

dondi356, I've been very surprised at the last few episodes. I'm accustomed to things getting very dark right before the gran final, but to my delight, that doesn't seem to be happening here. So I'm almost beginning to relax and stop fearing that a reversal is right around the corner. I'm very glad that you feel there's relatively smooth sailing ahead. And yes, I too am enjoying the "new and improved version of Cemal." Frankly, I found him physically quite attractive from the start, and I found it a bit jarring that he was such an evil person. I'm much happier with the "new" Cemal.

hija

Thanks so much, Juanita for another exceptional recap!

I must be an adrenaline junkie since I am finding these last episodes rather bland.

And...I also thought Hussein was now fine with Ugur. And was surprised to find how vicious he was about Ugur and, of course, again gobsmacked that a father could order his adult daughter to stay home.

I'm not liking the money under the mattress. What's the point? I doubt Demir and certainly not Candan would allow her to use it for their new home and/or expenses.

Ditto on liking the new Cemal. He seems to be the smartest of the Musketeers and certainly Demir looks to be getting a better wage (and tips) than at the place before. This is because of Cemal.

I suppose we'll get another RAT sighting before the end. Can we hope his having the drug planted in Candan's veterinary office blows back on him with some consequences?

hija

Many thanks, novelera, for your most welcome comments. I too was momentarily taken aback when Hussein treated his daughter as if she were a young child ("get into your pajamas!") and/or a servant ("make me some tea!"). I was heartened to see that she was willing to defy him.

I'm not sure what to think about the money under the mattress. It's not clear whose money it is, nor why it was sitting there in the park. The phrase "finders keepers" keeps popping into my head. I suppose if someone has filed a report with the police about having been robbed of that exact amount of money, or even of having lost a white paper bag containing that amount of money, Demir/Oyku might be obligated, morally and/or legally, to turn it in. But barring that...finders keepers?

And yes, with four hours still to go, we've surely not seen the last of the RAT. But I too am hoping that his role in the false accusation against Candan is somehow revealed, and that he pays dearly for it.

Hija #89 part 1

There’s a rewind to Demir and Ugur in the kitchen. They talk about the marriage proposal.
Ugur calls Sevgi. Sevgi, I want you to know I am coming tomorrow to ask for your hand in marriage! What?!? Yes, Ugur tells her, I’m coming to talk to your dad and ask for your hand before God and everyone. Tell your dad so he’s ready. See you tomorrow. Ugur hangs up before Sevgi can say anything. Ugur sits, sighs, and tells Demir it’s was a good idea (not so fast, Ugur). Demir tells Ugur he’s crazy.

Cut to a shocked Sevgi. She says, What? He’s proposing? Tomorrow? It’s sinking in and she gets excited. She goes to tell her father, but he’s fallen asleep on the couch. She’ll have to tell him tomorrow.

Next morning Ugur is wondering, what did I do? I can’t believe it. My life is over. Demir comes out of the bedroom. Ugur tells Demir, I can’t believe what I did. Why did you make me do it? Ugur is panicking. He says, I can’t get engaged, I don’t have any money. What am I going to do? Demir reminds Ugur he didn’t listen to him. Candan enters the conversation. She asks what’s wrong. Demir tells her to get ready, Ugur is going to propose to Sevgi. Candan has a big smile. Oyku comes out of the bedroom. Demir tells her, there’s good news. Ugur is marrying your teacher. Really? Oyku is excited.

Ugur is having second thoughts; he’s stressed. Candan questions him, don’t you want to get married or not? Yes, he does, but how can he tell Capt. Huseyin I can make Sevgi happy? I don’t have anything; I’m just a dishwasher. Demir tells him to sit down and relax. Oyku tells Ugur what he said isn’t true. He’s fun and he is the most handsome uncle in the world. He is the most compassionate and has a good heart. And you love my teacher very much and she loves you. Candan says, if you want to get married, we will help you. We will figure it out. It’s not as if the wedding is tonight, Demir says. Ugur is feeling much better now. But then he worries he doesn’t have a suit.

Sevgi has set a nice breakfast for her father. She pours him tea and sits. She nervously tries to start the conversation. He senses something is up. Sevgi asks if he will be home tonight. He will be home. He asks what’s going on. She is fidgeting and doesn’t answer. He says, tell me. She chickens out, it’s nothing, I just asked. He is suspicious.

Meanwhile, Ugur is picking at his breakfast. He gets up and brings some dishes into the kitchen. Candan tells Demir what they will need for tonight. Chocolates, flowers. They can put it on her credit card. Demir doesn’t want to do that, he says he will take care of it. Demir hopes they will pay him early. Candan adds, the clinic won’t be closed forever. She will reopen and pay the bill. Oyku is listening to all of this. Candan insist on putting the expense on her card. She says they are a family and need to support one another. Demir tells Oyku to stop eavesdropping and get ready for school. Ugur comes back to the table with tea.

Oyku goes to the bedroom. She takes the money from under the mattress. She takes out a bill and puts it in her backpack. She talks to Pelin, it’s money for the cat food. Demir calls her.

Demir and Ugur show up for work. Ugur is wondering where he will find a suit. Cemal asks why they need a suit. Demir tells him about the proposal.

It’s recess at school. Mercan sits next to Oyku and asks if she told her dad about the money. Not yet. She tells him her dad has no money and she has so much, but she can’t tell him. The classmate, Fulya, comes to her and asks for the cat food donation. Oyku hands her the bill. The Fulya is shocked and so is Mercan. It’s a big bill. Fulya asks if Oyku is sure she wants to give this. Yes. Mercan asks Oyku to come outside with him and they go.

dondi356

Hija #89 part 2

Fulya gives the collection to Sevgi. She wrote down how much everyone gave. Sevgi says she will get the cat food at lunchtime. Sevgi calls Fulya back. She questions an amount. Did you put an extra zero here? No, Oyku gave 10,000, says Fulya. Sevgi looks at the bill.

Cemal says he’s proud of Ugur. He thinks this is a good thing. Sevgi calls Demir. Ugur worries it’s about the proposal. It’s about Oyku so Cemal and Ugur leave. Sevgi tells him about the collection. Demir says he knows, they couldn’t give… but Sevgi says, no Oyku gave 10,000. What? Demir asks where Oyku found this money. Of course, Sevgi doesn’t know. She tells Demir she will try to find out and let him know. Demir is worried.

Sevgi comes out to speak with Oyku. She noticed that Oyku gave a lot of money. Where did you get it from? Oyku doesn’t answer. Sevgi asks again. Mercan comes over and speaks up. He tells Sevgi he gave it to Oyku. She says it’s way too much money and gives the bill to Mercan. She says she will call his mother. Mercan is nervous; he asks Sevgi not to tell his mother. He claims his mother didn’t have change this morning and gave him this bill. Sevgi warns them not to do this again. The kids walk back to the classroom. Mercan slips Oyku the bill. She thanks him and tells him he didn’t have to lie for her. He did it because she is his friend. He hopes Sevgi doesn’t call his mom.

Sevgi sends Demir a text saying Mercan gave Oyku the money.

Everyone is getting ready for Ugur’s big night. Oyku has a nice pink dress. The guys have the chocolates and flowers. Ugur is getting nervous again. They stop at the outdoor cafe to relax and have some tea.

Demir overhears the owner talking to a man named Omer. The owner asks Omer, you haven’t found it yet? No. he hasn’t and he’s lost hope. Demir is curious, he asks Omer what has happened. Omer says he lost his retirement money He withdrew it from the bank and afterwards, he went to the park with his grandson. He had put the bag down on the bench. Later, when he realized he didn’t have the money, he went back to look but it was gone. Our guys are sorry to hear it. (Well, now we know who the money belongs to.) Moral authority Cemal says, if a person found this money why wouldn’t they turn it in to the police? There’s no humanity left in this world.

Oyku and Candan are picking out something for Candan to wear. The guys arrive home. Cemal helps Ugur to get ready in his bedroom and Candan goes to her room to get dressed. Demir calls Oyku over for a talk. He asks her how was school? He tells her, I spoke to your teacher today. There is no math test. She tells Demir she was mistaken; she confused it with her Turkish exam. Then he drops the real question, why did you ask Mercan for money? And so much. Haven’t I told you to ask me if you need money? Oyku says she’s sorry, she won’t do it again and gives Demir a kiss. Demir decides to leave it at that.

Sevgi is also preparing for the big night and she’s very nervous, too. Huseyin arrives home. Sevgi is all over him. She takes his jacket, asks him if he wants coffee or tea. He notices she’s nervous he asks if she has something to tell him. She doesn’t have the courage and misses another chance to prepare Huseyin. Ay, Sevgi.

Cemal and Demir continue to help a very anxious Ugur in his preparations. They also take an opportunity to tease poor Ugur. What does Demir know, says Ugur, he had a quick wedding ceremony with none of the attached traditions. Demir says Ugur’s hair is a mess. Cemal says the captain will never give his blessing. It becomes too much and Ugur says, fine let’s cancel and we will do this some other day. Cemal and Demir laugh and tell him they are kidding. Final touches and photos are taken. The group heads off to Sevgi’s.

dondi356

Hija #89 part 3

Huseyin is relaxing on the couch watching TV. Sevgi comes in, all dressed up, and asks him if he wants tea. No, he’s tired and wants to go to bed. She asks him not to go, she wants to talk. Ok, but he wants to change into his pajamas. No, she says, let’s just sit like this. Once again. he asks what’s going on. She’s acting weird. You’re all dressed up, he says, you look like you’re ready for someone to propose, he laughs (the laugh will be on you instead, Huseyin). He asks if Sevgi is going to ask permission to go out. He tells her she is a grown woman and can go out with her friends and go places, but don’t go out with Ugur. That’s it. She tells him, dad, I know you don’t like Ugur but….the doorbell rings. They are here! Sevgi runs to get the door. Who’s here, asks Huseyin?

Huseyin greets Candan and Oyku. He shakes Demir’s and Cemal’s hands. He says to Ugur, what are you doing here? And he walks away. Ugur is concerned about Huseyin. He just wishes to be over and done with this. When Ugur walks away, Sevgi tells Candan she hasn’t been able to prepare her father.

They assemble in the living room. Huseyin won’t even look at Ugur. Candan softly tells Demir that Huseyin has no idea why they are here. Sevgi comes in and welcomes everyone again. She tries to start conversation with small talk. Huseyin wants to know what is going on. This is all very awkward. Ugur starts to speak but Huseyin tells him it’s better if he doesn’t talk. Ok, dad, he tells Huseyin. Huseyin is ticked that Ugur is still calling him dad. Sevgi gets up and says let’s have some sweets and enlists Oyku to pass out the chocolates. For the umpteenth time, Huseyin asks what’s going on. Sevgi says she’s going to make coffee. Candan goes to help.

In the kitchen, Candan wants to know why Sevgi didn’t tell her father about tonight. She makes excuses to Candan but we know she chickened out. Sevgi laments, what are we going to do? Candan says, we’ll figure it out. Candan notices that Sevgi has put something in one of the cups and asks about it. It’s salt, Sevgi says, it’s tradition. (A tradition to determine the worthiness of the prospective groom. The prospective bride prepares coffee for everyone but puts salt in the groom’s cup. If he manages to drink the whole cup of salty coffee without a problem, he passes the test.) Candan says you remembered this tradition, but you forgot to tell your father!

Increasing awkwardness in the living room. Demir makes an attempt at conversation. Huseyin gets to the point, why did you all come here tonight? I hope it’s not what I think it is. Demir assures Huseyin that there is no reason to worry.

The coffee is ready and Sevgi serves. Ugur drinks. He chokes and coughs. We see others smiling except for Huseyin. He looks annoyed and says, I knew it. Sevgi asks Ugur if he’s ok. He’s fine but he asks what did you put in this? Oyku pipes up, it’s the tradition. Yes, it’s the tradition, Demir says, and speaking of tradition, we are here because… Huseyin interrupts, Demir let me talk first and then you can talk. He turns to Sevgi and says, I want to ask you a question. Why are you doing this to me? Have I been a bad father? If you don’t love your father, just take my gun and shoot me. End this once and for all. Don’t say that dad, answers Sevgi.

Huseyin continues, so, you didn’t need my permission for this? And so, you don’t need anyone’s permission to end my life. Isn’t that right, Demir? I don’t know why Huseyin asks Demir that question, but Demir stupidly answers, of course. Everyone is in shock.

dondi356

Hija #89 part 4

Huseyin doesn’t give Demir a chance to explain and turns back to Sevgi, when where you going to tell me about this? Would you at least invite me to your wedding? Sevgi confesses, she couldn’t tell him because he is against the relationship. Please forgive me, she asks. Huseyin is getting upset, you went through horrible things because of this guy. I don’t understand what you see in his man. Sevgi says, I love him very much. Ugur speaks up, I love her too, dad. Don’t call me dad, Huseyin shouts! We would die if we couldn’t be together, Ugur says, we would end our own lives (well that’s another cringeworthy comment). Ugur admits that was a bit much.

Cemal tries to explain but Huseyin interrupts him, too. He has another question about Ugur, what does this man do for a living? Will he be able to look after my girl? (he’s got a point there) Ugur says he has a good job in a fancy restaurant. I work in the kitchen and I have a promising future there. And what is it, asks Huseyin? Dishwasher. Huseyin is not impressed. Why would give my blessing for my daughter to marry this idiot? Oyku tries next, she says, Ugur is not an idiot. He’s a good person. He made some mistakes but not anymore. He has a big heart and makes everyone happy. My teacher loves him, and he loves her.

Huseyin suddenly looks unwell. He unbuttons his shirt around his neck. It looks like he’s having trouble breathing. They are worried he is having a heart attack! Sevgi notices the flowers and asks where did you get them? Turns out Huseyin is allergic to them! Sevgi goes to get his allergy medicine. Ugur feels he is cursed.

Huseyin is lying on his bed and Sevgi is sitting next to him. He wakes up. Where am I, he asks, what happened? An allergic reaction to the flowers but you got your medicine and now you will be fine, Sevgi replies. Was it the flowers that desgraciado brought, Huseyin asks? That man won’t be happy until I’m dead. Don’t say that dad, says Sevgi, you need to rest.

Sevgi takes her father’s hand and says, I was so worried something might happen to you. I was scared that you would leave me alone in this world. Huseyin gets teary and tells Sevgi, I’m the one who’s afraid you will leave me. You are my treasure. You are all that I have in this world. Your mother left you to me. I don’t trust Ugur and I don’t think he can make you happy. If you marry him, you will suffer. Sevgi says that her father is right about one thing. Ugur did bad things in the past. It’s obvious he doesn’t like him. But I know Ugur, says Sevgi, and he is a very good person. He deserves a second chance, like we all do. Huseyin is not giving in easily.

Sevgi asks, do you remember when I was little? Things weren’t working out at home. You would feel useless and leave. Many times, you didn’t come back. He remembers. But mom gave you another chance, says Sevgi, she helped you get back on your feet. Dad, I don’t want to do anything to upset you. You rest and I’ll say goodbye to our guests.

Ugur is bemoans his fate and Sevgi returns. Ugur apologizes to her. Demir thinks they should go if Huseyin needs to rest. They get up to leave but Huseyin comes out of the bedroom. Are you leaving, he asks? Ugur apologizes to him about the flowers. Huseyin asks Sevgi if she really wants to marry this desgraciado. Sevgi nods and gives an uh huh. Huseyin sighs and announces, Señor Ugur, I give you my blessing. A shocked silence.

But not so fast, adds Huseyin, there are conditions. First, God help you if you hurt her. Second, you won’t live off of dirty money. Third, you will never leave her alone, if anything happens to her it’s your fault. Fourth, I don’t want to see you at the station for even a parking ticket or I will personally punish you. Trato hecho! Ugur would even sign an agreement.

Hija #89 part 5

One last thing, says Huseyin, there’s no rush to get married. And one more, don’t call me dad for a while. Demir says, then let’s start over. Señor Huseyin, may Ugur marry your daughter before the eyes of the Lord? Huseyin declares, yes, he can! Ugur and Sevgi kiss Huseyin’s hand and we have a happy end to the evening.

They arrive back at Ugur’s. Demir allows Oyku to stay up for a little while. Ugur can’t believe this really happened. He’s not sure he has the Captain’s blessing. They start laughing, remembering all that went wrong. Oyku asks where Ugur will live after he marries. Demir tells Oyku that’s not her business and he adds that they need to find a house, too. Oyku asks how they can do that without money. When things get better, Demir answers. Cemal says that Mufide is going to kill Ugur when she finds out about this.

Demir gets a call from Betul. He steps into the bedroom with Candan to take it. Betul tells Demir that Mercan didn’t give Oyku the money and she would never have given him that much money. Demir asks if Mercan knows where Oyku got the money. Mercan said he didn’t know. Demir thanks Betul for calling.

Demir explains the situation to Candan. Demir wants to speak with Oyku and Candan asks Demir to calm down. But when they go back, Oyku is asleep. Demir will have to wait to question her. He carries her to bed. Oyku starts talking in her sleep as they tuck her in. No need for questions because she explains the whole story in her sleep! Candan and Demir start looking around the room for the money. Demir finds it under the mattress. He flashes back to Omer and then to Candan saying they were at the park. It doesn’t take long for him to figure out what happened.

Demir goes into the living room and puts the bag on the table. Cemal opens it and asks, what is this? Demir says it’s Omer’s money. Remember he left it in the park? Oyku found it. Demir says he’s going to return it to Omer and have a serious talk with Oyku.

Demir is sitting on Oyku’s bed when she wakes up. She asks what’s wrong. We need to talk, he says. About what? He shows her the money, what is this? She was going to tell him. When we were at the park, I found it on the bench, she says. I didn’t know there was money inside. No one else was around so I took it. Oyku is surprised when Demir tells her he is glad she took it. But he is mad because she didn’t tell him about it. Demir feels if anyone else found it they probably wouldn’t have returned it. They will return it.

Oyku tells Demir, but we could buy a house. He gets angry, do you hear yourself? You took money from here, 10,000 that didn’t belong to us. Once you start lying, you will do it again and again. I can’t believe my daughter did this! What if the owner is desperate and needs this money? Did you think of this? We can’t take money that doesn’t belong to us. Demir continues, how many times did we promise we wouldn’t lie? You used to get mad at me for the same thing. And you also used Mercan. He’s in trouble because of you.

Oyku tries to explain. Demir tells her this is his problem. He told her this before. He raises his voice, it’s already been discussed! Don’t bring it up again! He makes Oyku look at him. He tells her it doesn’t matter if we don’t have money. We could live in a fancy house or in a room. All that matters is that we are together, supporting one another. I learned that from you. We are settling this money issue and I don’t want to hear it again. Next time there is a problem, you are going to tell your father, understand? Oyku nods.

dondi356

Hija #89 part 6

Demir tells Oyku that he used to think money was important, too. And it is, but there are things that are more important. Like having a family, living in peace and being happy. Money comes and goes; you can get it one way or another. So, don’t worry about money because your father will always be around for that. Oyku is very sorry. Demir asks for a hug. Her punishment is no TV for a month.

Demir is going to the café to return the money to Omer. He will be late and asks the guys to cover for him. He stuffs it in his pocket and heads off.

Candan goes into the bedroom to talk to Oyku. Candan asks her about the money. Oyku goes under the covers and starts sobbing, I’m so ashamed! How could I do this? Come here Oyku, Candan says, don’t cry. Give me a hug. You’re just a kid, you can’t take care of everything. It’s normal to make mistakes. Don’t worry. Your father will fix this and return the money. Just don’t do anything like this again. Candan will make a nice breakfast.

Demir shows up at the café and asks for Omer. He sits at a table to wait. Two guys nearby notice the bag that Demir has sticking out of his pocket. One guy says that must be Omer’s money (?). He concludes that Demir must have stolen it because he’s a thief. Everyone knows that’s how he makes a living.

Oyku is too upset to eat her breakfast. She gets ready to go to school with Candan.

Demir can’t wait any longer or else he will be late to work. He asks the café owner to have Omer call him. it’s very important. Just as Demir is leaving, Omer shows up with the two guys who noticed Demir with the bag and a couple of policemen. There he is! The police tell Demir he’s been accused of robbery. Demir takes the money out of his pocket, hands it to Omer, and tries to explain. Demir is accused of lying and stealing.

The police grab Demir to take him to the station. Demir declares his innocence. This is a misunderstanding! Candan and Oyku are waiting at a nearby bus stop. They see Demir being led away. Oyku and Candan run to him. Demir tells them it’s a misunderstanding. Oyku clings to her dad, crying, don’t take him!

Omer shows up. Oyku shouts she found the bag with the money. I swear it was me! She tells the whole story. I took it because we don’t have money or a house. Demir backs up Oyku’s story. He says he went to the café to return it. This is all a misunderstanding. Omer questions Oyku, you found the money? Yes, and I am sorry! I’ll never do anything like this again! Omer decides this was a misunderstanding and he will not press charges. Oyku asks the policemen not to take her father to prison. It’s not going to happen, Demir tells her.

Cut to the café. The family sits with Omer. Oyku apologizes to Omer. He understands and it’s over now. Omer apologizes to Demir. He had heard that his house burned. Oyku needs to go to school and they part on good terms. Demir thinks that Oyku has learned her lesson.

Oyku arrives late to school. Sevgi tells her the class has been doing a writing assignment about their families.

Demir is late for work and the boss has been asking for him. But it’s not because he’s late. Semih has an important assignment for Demir. A very important food critic is coming today. It’s a great opportunity. Semih asks Demir to be the server. Demir says wouldn’t it be better for the maître d to do this? Semih says he’s called out sick again. He wants Demir because he has experience and he’s very good at his job. Semih warns, this critic has a bad temper. He’s criticized the most popular restaurants for minor mistakes. Semih says if Demir handles this well he can ask for anything.

Hija #89 part 7

At recess, Oyku tells Mercan what happened. Ilayda comes over and wants to talk to Oyku privately. Ilayda starts, when we skipped school, my mom was very mad. At first, she yelled at me and asked if I’d done it because she divorced my dad. But then she calmed down and we talked. She told me she would never leave me even if she left my dad. She said she loved me more than anything in the world.

Oyku is happy to hear this. Ilayda remembers that Oyku told her the same thing. You said my mom would never leave me because she loves me. Ilayda wanted to tell this to Oyku. Ilayda says, you know, Oyku, you are a very good person. A little weird, but a good person. The girls laugh. Oyku thinks Ilayda is good, too. They laugh about selling the tissues. They hold hands back to the classroom.

The doorbell tweets at Ugur’s. Mufide’s back and she’s upset! She starts complaining about Ugur not keeping her informed and Demir isn’t any better. They have been very inconsiderate. And Candan, why didn’t you tell me, either? Candan is sorry. She thought Ugur would tell her what’s been happening. My shameless son wants to get married without telling me, Mufide says. She had to hear it from the neighbors! It’s an embarrassment!

Mufide asks for Oyku. Candan says she was depressed after the fire but she’s ok now. Mufide is ticked they didn’t even tell her about the fire. Candan thinks Ugur didn’t want her to worry. Candan adds, that they will be out of her house as soon as possible. Mufide says not to worry about that. She’s just glad that they are all well. Candan wants to tell Ugur Mufide has arrived but Mufide says not to. He might not come home then. Mufide intends to surprise Ugur and give him a lecture when he comes.

Demir is preparing for the critics visit; he’s memorizing the menu. (All Italian dishes) Ugur and the chef are helping. The chef wonders if Demir can memorize this on short notice. Ugur pipes up, you don’t know who you are talking to. Demir memorized the names of the most important paintings in Turkey in one day. Demir tells Ugur to shut up, shouldn’t you be washing dishes? They continue with the prep.

Oyku and Candan walk home from school. Candan has a surprise and won’t tell Oyku. Oyku can’t guess then sees Mufide outside the house. A very happy reunion.

Demir is giving recommendations to the critic. He explains the dishes perfectly. He recommends the ossobuco as the entrée (yum!) We then see the critic eating his meal. Semih, Demir, the chef and Ugur are looking on, nervously, from a distance. Demir goes to the critic and asks, what do you think? He says it’s been good so far but let’s see about dessert. Suggestions? Demir recommends the panna cotta.

Hija #89 part 8

Oyku is enjoying a snack that Mufide made. She asks Oyku, what have your Uncle Ugur and your father been up to while I’ve been gone? Dad has proposed to Candan. Ugur asked for my teacher’s hand. Mufide says apparently everyone decided to get married while I was gone. My son decided to start a family without telling his mother. She’s not letting go of this easily, Ugur is in for it. Oyku remembers she has homework. The assignment about her family.

The critic finishes his dessert. Semih goes over to him. Semih asks if he enjoyed his meal. On his way out, the critic says the food was delicious and the service was particularly excellent. He loved how the maître d recommended the dishes. The critic tells Demir he will be back for more suggestions and he leaves. Semih tells Demir, well done, you saved us. Demir downplays it, he was only doing his job. Semih is very pleased with Demir.

The three amigos are walking home from work. Cemal says he’s going to eat at the hostel. Ugur says that Cemal should come for dinner. Demir asks, you don’t like Candan’s cooking? Cemal doesn’t want to bother Candan. Ugur says he thinks Candan cooks better than his mother. Cemal says Mufide would kill him if she heard this.

While they walk, Demir receives a call from Omer. He has something important to tell Demir.

And that will have to wait because we are out. On to the gran final!

dondi356

dondi356, amazing!! You caught every detail, every emotion, every nuance of the two episodes just as masterful as you always do, thank you!

I'm glad the whole money thing was cleared up so quickly. And what a lesson Oyku learned! As if Demir's talk wasn't enough, that nail was driven in hard as she saw her father almost taken to jail for it. Omer was so understanding of Oyku. I wonder what important thing he has to say to Demir. Demir's luck is changing quite rapidly so I'm hoping it's an offer for a house or something similar.

The "Proposal" went far better than I expected. Minor detail, but how is it that Sevgi didn't keep the flowers away from her father? She saw them as soon as Ugur entered!

For a while, I thought Demir's boss was going to dismiss him for being so late, but WOW what a surprise that he chose Demir to be the food critic's server. Will Demir get a promotion?

YAY! Mufide is BACK!!! And as feisty as ever, but I don't blame her since she learned of the engagement from neighbors??? Ugur has always been so close to her and he didn't even call her? Very uncharacteristic!

This is my first comment (and probably last, given how late I've entered the discussion, haha). I started watching to improve my rusty Spanish and ended up completely engrossed. In last night's episode I hoped we'd find out why Oyku kept the money but was reluctant to tell Demir since she thought the family needed it. I think the Murat-instigated clinic closing is the writers' way for him to be finally punished. I suspect he'll be caught and Candan vindicated. Looking forward to the final episode! Thanks for all of the synopses and comments over the course of the show!

What an amazing, magnificent, superb, spectacular recap, dondi356! I expected it would be very impressive, because you always create wonderful recaps, but this one... What can I say? ¡Muchísimas gracias!

Let me get two minor complaints out of the way. Complaints about the episode, not the recap! One is that like Rgv Chick, I wonder why Sevgi didn't recognize the flowers and the danger they posed to her father right from the start. His allergy is serious enough for them to have an antidote on hand, and Sevgi knows where they keep it, which also suggests that this isn't the first time they've needed it.

My other complaint is one I often have with Telemundo telenovelas--the tendency to offer a Public Service Announcement, teaching viewers how to think or behave. In this case, I found Demir's preachy speeches to Oyku about what a terrible thing she did by taking the money really excessive. And that includes "Moral Cemal's" self-righteous statement about the kind of people who would take the money. Give me a break! On the whole, I like the "new" Cemal, but here and elsewhere his new-found decency becomes excessive and, frankly, hard to believe.

OK, end of rant. :-). On the whole, I really enjoyed the episode. I was especially delighted at Demir's performance with the restaurant critic. My guess is that he will soon become the new maître d at a considerable boost in salary. The present maître d, we're told, often calls in sick, and the boss clearly wasn't pleased about that.

I'm also wondering what Omer wants to say to Demir. Omer is apparently not a rich man, so I can't imagine that he will be able to do much for Demir's finances, but who knows?

I'm also still hoping that Mu-RAT gets what's coming to him for all the nasty things he has done to Demir, to Oyku, and to Candan.

I know that Hussein has said that there's no need to rush into a wedding, but I'm hoping (and half expecting) that we'll see a double wedding on Monday. Perhaps I've just watched too many telenovelas where things like that happen, but here it seems quite appropriate.

hija

Welcome, Cat Lover! I didn't see your post until after I'd put up mine. I too am watching novelas to try to improve my very rusty Spanish. I see that both you and I are hoping that Mu-RAT will be punished in the gran final. ¡Ojalá!

Perhaps you'll also comment on the gran final. It too will be a 2-hour affair. And perhaps now that you've found us, you'll give one of the upcoming telenovelas a try. I'm really looking forward to La Suerte de Loli starring Silvia Navarro. I've seen her in other things, and she's very talented.

Thank you, Juanita for the welcome! I do want to try some other Spanish language shows. I am enjoying Bugra Golsoy (Demir) and have watched a few episodes on youtube of Love Again in which he stars. It has English subtitles (they seem like they're directly from google translate, argh), so no Spanish practice, but entertaining.

As has been mentioned, Todo por mi Hija drops things, like other shows do, such as Candan's dog and her horse farm visits. But learning about Turkish culture has been fun and educational.

I wonder if the comment from Demir's boss that sounded like he would be willing to do something nice for Demir after a favorable restaurant review might mean that he'll offer to host Demir's wedding. Looking forward to Monday night!

hija

Wow! You knocked that recap out of the park, dondi! It was so entertaining and well written. I am so glad they wrapped up the lost money so quickly. But, of course, it was loaded with telenovela coincidences. Demir just happens to overhear Omer's having lost a lot of cash. And Oyku and Candan just happen to be at the bus stop when the police are dragging Demir away. Don't they always walk to and from school?

The proposal scene was pretty farcical, but then so many TN scenes are.

I agree, Juanita, about there being a lot of moralizing from recently reformed criminals.

And I also feel that Demir will be the new maître d at the Italian restaurant. I found it interesting that they've shown some seasons change. At one point Oyku had a warm coat purchased by Candan. And now patrons are eating outside at that lovely patio with a view.

Omer is surely going to come up with some suitable reward for Demir's having returned his money.

Could Mu-RAT get fired from his job if his revenge scheme on Candan is discovered? Here's hoping.

And I'm also giving a hearty welcome to Cat Lover. We all here on Caray are trying to keep our Spanish skills alive!

Hija

Thank you everyone, for your appreciation and for your great comments!

Where would we be without Telenovela Coincidences?

So the money thing just happened to bring Omer into the story. And Omer knows about the fire. Also thinking he will somehow help Demir find another place to live.

We got some insight on Huseyin and Sevgi’s father/daughter relationship. I got a kick out of Huseyin at the proposal, “just take my gun and shoot me”. Glad he’s going to be ok. Ugur drinking the salty coffee and being so clueless throughout was expected but I LOL’d throughout anyway.

I figured that Sevgi was so nervous she didn’t think about the flowers until it was too late.

Juanita, I hope I get to recap that double wedding you mentioned!

Rgv Chick, I’m happy to see Mufide back and as feisty as ever, too. She won’t stay mad at Ugur for long.

Seems as if the Three Amigos are headed for sainthood. Cemal’s moralizing is getting to be a bit much. I kind of understand Demir lecturing Oyku, given his own history. I’ll give him a pass on this.

I will agree that Demir will likely get the promotion to maître d.

novelera, you made a comment about the seasons changing. That’s because it was filmed over the course of 9- 10 months.

Then there’s that stubborn RAT problem. How can they let him get away with this? Mu-rat owns the hospital so he won’t get “fired”, but I don’t know if there could be business as well as legal consequences for what he did. There should be.

And welcome, Cat Lover! Never too late to join in and I hope you will stay with us for “Loli”. I think there’s a lot of interest in that TN. BTW, I like Buğra Gülsoy, too (a breve and an umlaut for you, novelera). I saw Aşk Yeniden/Volver a Amar/Love Again on Telemundo daytime several years ago and I enjoyed it. Turkish dizi are very popular in Latin America and I think we will continue to see more of them.

dondi356

Hija

This was a good episode, and thanks to Dondi for yet another outstanding update.
First, my wife insists on knowing about this restaurant in Istanbul where the Three Musketeers work. She simply MUST go there. Anyone have any ideas?

Welcome catlover! I was a little late to the conversation as well, and I like your idea about the restaurant hosting perhaps a double wedding, which would be very cool.

My wife noticed one little thing in the story. It's not important, but it's fun to notice little things being out of place during the same scene, so you realize the scenes weren't filmed at the same time. When Demir went to talk to Oyku about the money, she was asleep on the sofa. He put her to bed with her hair down and in the beautiful pink dress. The next morning when Oyku woke up (with Demir staring at her like a cat who's waiting to be fed), she was in her pajamas with her hair up.

Speaking of Suertudo, where was el gatito? He didn't show up in this episode. Funny how details are skipped if they don't pertain to the story in a particular episode.

You all beat me to it with the eye-roll-inducing moralizing of the VERY recently reformed thief and kidnapper. When Demir said "how could a daughter of mine take this money?", I said "Because the apple doesn't fall far from the tree?"

Novelera, you caught that coincidence as well - that Oyku and Candan just "happened" to be nearby so Oyku could come over and save Papa from jail. I also wondered aloud why they were waiting on the bus. They always walk to school.

Yay, Senora Mufide is back! I was worried that the writers wrote her out of the show for convenience because how else would everyone be able to stay in the same small house together? Yes, she's mad at Ugur now. But she loves her hijo so much, I just know she will forgive him. She's done it before.

I'm assuming that Ahmed and Resat (and perhaps Faik) are currently rotting in jail? They never showed us what happened with these bad guys. Perhaps they'll address this in the Gran Finale.

What we need now is for the Rat to get caught and punished, Omer to help Demir and family get a new house, double wedding, Dr. Ihsan to announce that Oyku is permanently cured, and for everyone to live happily ever after. Is 2 hours enough for all this and for Cemal to find a love interest? My wife agrees with you, Juanita, that Cemal is the best looking Amigo. Certainly he won't stay single for long.

Ken

HIJA

Welcome, Cat Lover! Always glad to see newcomers join in at whatever point in a TN :-) Thank you and everyone else for mentioning the RAT which I probably subconsciously wanted to forget LOL But, yes, I do hope that the writers think of something to satisfy our thirst for his blood (figuratively speaking...well maybe literally would be okay too LOL). Your idea about Semih offering or agreeing to host the (or both) weddings is TOPS!!

Novelera, the telenovela coincidences you pointed out had me smiling. I too wondered how it was that Candan and Oyku were at that bus stop. As Ken also mentioned, Demir et al are always walking Oyku to school so it must not be that far. Oh well...

dondi, "Seems as if the Three Amigos are headed for sainthood. Cemal’s moralizing is getting to be a bit much." Yeah it is a bit much and too quick, but I do prefer his smile to his grimace and sneers. Demir's transformation was gradual so I'll give him a pass too. Now as for Ugur, geez what can I say? He was the one who resisted the longest and he still has his lazy, questionable moments.

Something that I don't remember the writers addressing was why Ugur didn't warn Cemal (way back when) about Asu calling the cops. Did Cemal forget too?

Ken, that one little non-important thing that your wife noticed didn't go unnoticed by me either. I just figured that maybe sometime during the night Demir or Candan had gone in to help her change.

I am so impressed by the synopses from Dondi and others! Thank you!

Regarding what Rgv Chick mentioned about Ugur not having warned Cemal about Asu having called the cops, I had rolled that around in my brain for awhile. Since we saw him run up to Demir just as Demir approached the site of the crime, I'm thinking Ugur found out too late to warn Cemal and just barely caught Demir before it was too late. Maybe they didn't have cell phones back when it happened.

I too had thought it was convenient for Sra. Mufide to be away for so long since her room was needed for the guests but I had expected there would be more instances of Ugur talking to her on the phone so it wouldn't seem like the writers had forgotten her altogether.

Cat Lover, now that you bring up Mufide’s room being needed once more, I’ve been wondering...when they change a scene to Mufide’s house we see a two-story home. Once they show the inside, we are made to believe that there are only two bedrooms...and we never see stairs. I suppose I need to get a closer look to see if there are stairs on the outside???

Yes, Rgv Chick! I had noticed the two story house and wondered. There must be an apartment on the second floor but I never noticed steps.

HIJA

Dontcha wish the clock would move a bit faster today? Can't wait till tonight and then dondi's ever incredible recap!
