LFDD #88/89

- JJ is learning how to walk again but his personality is still intact
- Tony asks JJ’s doctor about JJ’s memory loss and tells the doctor about the relationship/history between JJ and Ivan. The doctor suggests not to tell JJ the truth just yet.
- Lucia and Ivan tell Carlota and Lucrecia that they did the paternity test and the results will be ready in 10 days.
- Camilo’s lawyer has a shocked reaction when Camilo says he cares more about Lucia than Perla.
- Camilo and Maripaz have another roll in the hay and Camilo asks her to not say anything about their affair if she is called to testify.
- Saul has a successful surgery on his leg.
- Lucia and Camilo meet with the judge. The judge decides to get testimony from Maripaz and anyone else who witnessed Camilo’s infidelity.
- The judge grants Lucia the divorce and reveals that Ivan isn’t the father of Perla. Camilo confirms that Lucia was already pregnant when they married. Ivan demands another test be done.
- Ivan tells Carlota and Lucrecia about the results of the DNA test. Carlota remembers when Lucia once came home from the club one night sick and confused.
- Camilo tells Antolin what’s going on and Antolin tells him to stop seeing Maripaz.
- Carlota asks Berenice about the time she and Lucia went to the club. Berenice remembers seeing Saul there.
- Carlota visits Tony. She tells him about the night Lucia went to the club. She believes Lucia was drugged and raped.
- El Gordo visits Saul in the hospital
- Camilo tries to convince Lucia that Perla needs a father figure but Lucia prefers to raise her daughter alone now that they are divorced.
- In talking to Berenice, Lucia concludes that she was raped.

- Antolin and Camilo talk. Antolin suggests an audit be done to expose everything JJ did at the association.
- Lucrecia and Maripaz talk about the DNA test fiasco. Maripaz believes Lucia cheated on Ivan with a random guy before marrying Camilo.
- JJ finds out Camilo is the new president of the association. He asks Esther to find Ivan.
- Lucia assures Lucrecia that she has only ever been intimate with Ivan and Camilo.
- Carlota and Lucia talk about her likely being raped.
- Berenice tells David about Lucia and asks him about Saul. David says his brother is capable of anything.
- Tony tells Ivan he will talk to JJ to clear things up
- Tony is able to jog JJ’s memory about Ivan and warns him that if he doesn’t see the error of his ways, he will end up alone.
- Lucia gains full custody of Perla.
- Antolin and Carolina plan their wedding
- The results of the second DNA test come out the same. Ivan isn’t Perla’s biological father.
- Lucia leaves and crashes her car but isn’t injured. Antolin finds her and helps her. He assures her that it doesn’t matter who the father of her daughter is. What counts is that she is Perla’s mother.
- Tony presents to Ivan the possibility that Lucia was raped
- Lucrecia is stunned at the possibility that Lucia was raped
- Antolin tells Camilo what happened to Lucia but suggests Camilo move on from her
- Berenice suggests to Lucia that she undergo hypnotherapy
- Antolin and Carolina get married
- Lucia tells Maripaz she was drugged and raped after Maripaz jokes that Lucia got pregnant by the Holy Spirit
- Saul calls the Curiel residence and Lucia answers. When she hears his voice she has a small flashback to the night she was raped



 

QT #31 Part 1 of 2

Dalia collapsed in the den.

Minnie tried to tell Val she saw Sandy in her room. Leo walked in to tell them about Dalia which forestalled the confrontation in the making. Val and Sandy left to help Dalia. He told his mum that Matt would be n charge of the dinero if Dalia died. Minnie called Aaron to get him over.

Art, Basurto, and a Señor Rivera were playing poker while talking [dirty] business. Art was looking to control the press. Art left the table to give an expensive watch to Magdalena, who tried to decline it (sort of). He returned to his game.

Sandy tried to get Dalia to cheer up. Matt came in, Val came in with tea. Aaron came in, everyone started talking,and he ordered everyone out. Dalia had not been taking her meds consistently and Aaron get on her case about that.

Remi woke up alone, put on his jacket and shoes, found the article on the desk, and then went out. He found Padre G sitting on the steps. He had done that since he was young in order to calm the spirit. Remi left him to that. Berenice called Padre G to talk but he speculated that this was a pretext. She ended the call.

Dalia explained to Aaron about Leo and how Tirso turned out to be a traitor. Aaron flipped at the idea that Sabina had done the nasty with Tirso and possibly killed Amara (who was Aaron's sister). He confronted Sab who denied it, saying Tirso had confessed.Minnie called Sab a slut and slapped her flat. Angelita heard this and saw her mother being slapped. Matt heard this when he came to check on his mother. Aaron directed him to take Dalia to her room.

Berenice laid on the couch, crying in the dark. Chaco heard her and entered to check on her. He was only in his skivvies.Berenice didn't want to talk and said so rather abruptly. She then heard Eva's voice, panicked, moved into Chacho's lap,and leaned into his shoulder, pretending to be asleep. Eva was shocked, sort of covered her eyes, and said “I saw nothing!” three times before leaving the room. Berenice thanked Chacho and pulled back,hoping her mother would not ask questions in the morning. He tried to kiss her but she bolted with a hasty Buenas Noches.

The flowers and note received the other day were the conversation topic between Esme and Magdalena, who then showed her the watch. Camila told her to keep it to make Tirso jealous. Esme told her to be careful because she was playing with fire.

The poker game continued, along with comments about the fair.

Dalia didn't answer Matt's questions about her collapse. Both he and Val recalled the conversation about her not betraying Sandy.Then he remembered his promise at the in-tree altar to the Virgencita about not marrying Sandy. Val looked into her diary; no new neurons were revived this time.

 

QT #31 Part 2 of 2

Sandy told Leo about the diary but that she could not remove it from her room. However he continued to accuse Val of trying to steal Matt. Leo said that if she were enough for Matt he would not have gone looking elsewhere. Sandy came on to Le with a kiss. He looked like he was taking the bait but she pulled back and told him to take a cold shower, “Matt will marry me whether she like it or not.”

Sandy then went into Matt's room to apologize and tell him she was quitting this job.Leo went to Val's room with tea and said she should not leave the house. He mentioned the diary; she said she hadn't read much of it. That it had photos and appointment dates, but little else. He asked to see it, but she said she'd rather read it first. Shortly afterward he let her room empty-handed and blue-balled.

Sandy called Leo in front of Matt and Leo used this opportunity to prove that Matt was not for Val. Matt then lied to Sandy about promising the Virgen that he would marry her.

Val concluded that she needed professional help. She told Leo she would get Aaron to recommend someone. She was very rational, even in avoiding Leo's kiss.

Ange had a fever the next day. Sab went to get Aaron. Tirso came to see Ange and she asked him if he and her mother had ever been novios. Dalia asked where she got that idea from and Ange flashed back to the night before. He denied it. Ange told the both of them to leave her alone. Both adults left the room.

Aaron was having breakfast with Leo and Minnie, who asked why Val wasn't with them. Leo told her not to start up again. Sab came to get Aaron and he went upstairs immediately. The two women almost restarted their catfight again. Minnie said she had doubts that Ange was Patricio's child. She demanded a DNA test, telling Sab that she and Ange were to leave I the test came back negative.Leo looked like he agreed with her, but said nothing.

Esme asked Berenice for computer help to locate the man who sent her the flowers. They went to the school.

Sandy called Matt and laid it on thick in front of Val. After the call Sandy admitted finding the diary. Val should have been suspish, but wasn't.

Aaron told Sab to keep Ange in bed, lots of liquids, etc., After he left Ange told Sab off about her lies.

Val was grooming Mariachi while talking to Sandy. She mentiuone Remi's birthday,but wouldn't talk about anythng else. Sandy was peeved.

Corina walked in on Leo searching Val's room. He had not found the diary. He was rude when she pointed out the mess he was creating.

Berenice was showing Esme the computer screen when Padre G arrived. Esme left a moment later. When Padre G started talking to Berenice, Chacho arrived to give her her cell phone, which she had forgotten that morning. She tanked him, called him “Mi amor”, and kissed him in front of Padre G.

Matt visited the old man on the mountain.He gave him a poncho in thanks for what he had done. He toldh im that Val was alright but still not remembering anything. The old man had found the suitcases.but the clothes were useless. However, a photo had survived. Matt looked at it and it was the shot of Val in a bridal dress with him in his jeans and cowboy hat.

Episode 78 Recap (Part IV)

39.) Episode 78 begins with Psycho Barbara at the mental institution clinic abusing & threatening Liliana.

40.) Liliana lunges from the chair to fight back.....until Psycho Barbara launches the sucker-punch, causing Liliana to fall down crying.

41.) Psycho Barbara gets super aggressive against Liliana by threatening her.

42.) Special assistant to Dr. Orbregon shows up & sees Liliana on the crying bruised & roughed up.

43.) While the special assistant helps Liliana, Psycho Barbara gives Liliana the death stare.

44.) Back in Pueblo Purification we see Santiago & Aurora cooking some food.

45.) Artemio Bravo & his security guards show up at Dominga's house.

46.) Artemio starts banging on the door.

47.) Once again Aurora continues to get horrified & freaked out.

48.) Plus Aurora sees Artemio's face once he removes the sunglasses.

49.) Back at the mental institution clinic: Special assistant to Dr. Orbregon helps Liliana to the chair & comforts her.

50.) Over at Vlad's crappy apartment Damian scolds Priscila non-stop while Damian sits there.

52.) Santiago comes up with a plan to distract Artemio.

56.) In the meantime Franco & Fernanda gey refreshments from Farmer Dude's granddaughter.

57.) Over in Purification, Santiago tries to reassure Aurora that Artemio won't bother her again. Yeah right!

58.) Back at Vlad's crappy apartment, Damian intimidates Priscila in making sure she doesn't snitch on him to the law enforcement agencies.

59.) More conniving from Damian as Vlad cooks somr food.

60.) Back at Grupo Lactos we see Jackass #1 Annibal upping the ante even further against Florencia launching insults, threats & uppity jack-assery.

61.) Apparently Jackass #1 Annibal is pissed off at Florencia over missing documents that Vlad framed her awhile back.

62.) Jackass #1 Annibal fires Florencia's STUPID ass on the spot & has his right-hand thug Osvaldo throw her out.

63.) Franco & Fernanda kissing.

64.) Closing credits showing flashbacks between Eduardo & Fernanada.

- Carolina and Antolin enjoy their wedding night
- Lucrecia tells JJ and Esther that Lucia was raped
- Camilo tells Ivan that Lucia turned him (C) down again.
- Maripaz tells Saul that Lucia was raped. Maripaz doesn’t notice that Saul is visibly nervous during the conversation.
- Ivan takes Alex to visit Lucia but stays in the car.
- JJ gets Saul to admit that he raped Lucia. JJ tells Esther.
- Ivan writes Lucia a love letter (email)
- Berenice tells David that Saul is likely Lucia’s rapist
- Alex calls Lucia and wants her to reconcile with his dad
- JJ wants Saul to marry Lucia.

- Lucia tells Ivan that she has flashbacks. She’s afraid to do the hypnotherapy.
- Ivan plans to accuse Saul of abuse/rape but Tony tells him to let Lucia decide
- Ivan and Camilo have a conversation at the association. They agree that Saul may be the one who raped Lucia. Antolin wants to help catch Saul.
- Saul tells JJ that Lucia might be starting to remember what happened. He wants to leave the country. JJ says that Saul deserves to be dead.
- Ivan, Camilo and Antolin agree to work together to see that Saul is brought to justice
- Ivan picks up Lucia from a doctors appointment with Perlita. He assures her that he doesn’t care who Perlita’s father is and that he still loves her.
- Lucia goes in for the hypnotherapy session but can’t identify her attacker
- JJ visits Camilo at the association. Camilo tells him the audit is being done.
- Lucia plans to do another hypnotherapy session the next day
- Camilo talks to Tony about the audit. Tony says that with JJ being sick there’s no intention of wanting him in prison
- Lucrecia doesn’t believe Saul is capable of hurting Lucia. Carlota warns that she will take matters into her own hands if Saul goes near Lucia.
- Ivan talks to Berenice about Lucia
- JJ talks to his lawyer. The lawyer wants to blame Saul for everything. JJ reveals Esther also has access to his accounts
- Saul escapes his parents house
- Maripaz whines that she is lonely and wants to see Camilo
- Ivan and Lucia talk on the phone. Lucia is still confused about everything.

I am confused about Mateo's vow to not marry Sandy. I rely on Spanish CCs too much, but still, my listening comprehension isn't non-existent. I could have sworn that in the original scene where he vows to the Virgen in the tree, that he says he won't marry Sandy if the Virgen saves Val. But in this flashback scene the CCs say he vows WILL marry Sandy if Val is saved. However, it still sounds like he says "no voy a casar" but I dunno.

Two B&W Cats, Mateo promised that he *would* marry Sandy if the Virgin saved Val. (That seems to indicate that he was already having doubts, or it wouldn't be a sacrifice, would it?)

There is an odd-sounding construction in Spanish in which a "no" is inserted when people say things like, "I'm not leaving until she returns." ("No me voy hasta que no venga.") A native speaker could give you more info on that. I learned about it on Caray, and I'm used to it now, but it took a while. ;}
 

QT #32 Part 1 of 3

Matt took the “wedding” photo, smiled, and looked at the back [Can someonefigure out what Val had written on it?]

Sandy was still plotting with Leo.

Aaron and Dalia discussed Angelita and Sabina. She asked him whether he thought Ange is the daughter of Don Patricio. He emphatically said she was not Patricio's child, but sounded like he didn't want to talk about it.

Leo found Val and Matt, who had just given her the photo. Leo took the pic out of her hand and demanded to know what it was. Matt explained where he found it. Leo blew up about this and they started fighting. Sandy – who had been gloating until this – jumped in with Val to separate the two charging bulls. Leo ordered Sandy to leave with tu novio and she got Matt to leave with her. Leo got really ugly with Val, insulting her and destroying the photo in front of her. She told him she was not his property. He ordered her to throw away the medallion Matt had given her or he would destroy it. She refused, saying that the Virgen protected her through it. He finally skulked away.

Confrontation time between Tirso and Sab. He said that Ange knew they had been involved. She knew that and said that their relationship had been a grave error. He had done six years in prison for her. He demanded to know if Ange was his child. She looked scared.

Aaron explained to Dalia that Don Patricio had fallen from his horse and the injury left him sterile. Dalia remembered that there had been a long recovery time. When Ange was born the dates told Aaron that Patricio could not have been her father. He had not spoken up because Patricio had been happy. This had happened after the death of Esme's baby.

Sab denied that Ange was Tirso's but he didn't let her off the hook. Sab had killed Amara because she had threatened to tell Don Patricio. A DNA test would prove this. He ordered her to meet him that night “in the usual place” or else.

Chacho knew he had been used; he told Berenice off, but stills seems unaware of what was really going on with her.

Sandy tried interrogating Matt bout the photo; he was in no mood to talk about this. He seemed sure she had lied to him about quitting her “job.” She went on about their wedding and how he would be the handsomest groom ever. He looked less than happy during that.
 

QT #32 Part 2 of 3

Leo went to Val's room to apologize but she was not satisfied. Minerva arrived with fashion mags for her. Leo tried to take them away from her and she resisted. He finally succeeded in getting them away from her and gave them to Minnie for disposal. They had contained photos of Val with both himself and Remi. Leo said that the press confuses and that photos mean nothing and Val called him out on his reaction to the photo of her and Matt.

Magdalena looked at the photo of her younger self and her baby daughter. She was sad, saying she had to face her past errors. Camila said that it was possible that her father could have brainwashed her against her. She advised her to be realistic and to not wear herself out.

Val found the teddy bear and had a flashback to her childhood, crying on her bed as her aunt lay unconscious on the floor.

Esme looked at the computer print-out, but there was no photo. Berenice was not happy either. Esme advised her against forbidden fruit because it never brings happiness in one's life.

Corina made tea for Ange, then unpacked some bread. A memnt later she looked and thought that some bread had gone missing. Dalia scolded her gently before taking the tea.

Sab talked to the sleeping child, saying she wanted to give her a better life than she had had, and a better father. She then woke her up for her meds. Dalia brought her the tea and Ange demanded that she leave the room. Sab started to scold her but Ange told her she was angry with her,Tirso, and Leo. And to get out.

Padre G addressed his congregation about the emotional unrest in the town, comments about the alcalde's influence, etc., and tried to assure them that he was there for their good rather than his own. [If someone can translate the proverb, I'd be grateful].

Sandy had retrieved the torn pieces of the photo for “proof”, showing the backs of them to Leo. He dismissed this as something Val would forget. Sandy said she would not work for free. Val came in wearing some absurd peasant finery which provoked comments from Leo. She said she didn't remember what she had been accustomed to before. She was going to the fair and asked Sandy if she would come with them. Sandy replied that she was going with Matt.

Matt tried to get Dalia to go to the fair with him but she was not in the mood, said she knew her place, etc. She reminded him about the shirt that Don Patricio had given him. She talked about looking forward to grandchildren. Matt talked about how it would feel to bring his future children to the fair. When he was alone he looked into the mirror and thought of the moment he had returned the photo to Val.
 

QT #33 Part 3 of 3

Esme and Camila decorated the saloon. Magda told them she was taking the day off to go to the fair, like a normal person.

Padre G had postponed the kids' camping trip because Berenice wasn't there to help out. Art came through to blow his own horn, saying he had the streets closed for the fair. Remi helped Lorenzo bring things out and was confronted by Leo when he was heading toward Val. He taunted Leo by saying that he wanted to talk to his friend Sonia Rodriguez, since Valeria Fernandez had “died” in an accident.

Matt went into the church and prayed to the Virgencita, saying he was confused. He aske for a sign as to what to do. He was then approached by a man (the local jeweler?) who asked when he was going to give Sandy the ring.

Leo threatened Remi while Val went into the church alone.

Matt gave Sandy the engagement ring, but didn't exactly look ecstatic about it. E talked about their living with his mum for a while; she talked about getting Leo to allow them to live in the hacienda. This clearly didn't please him but he said he would meet her at the fair. She pouted after he was out the door.

Val helped Padre G serve food to the poor children, one of whoom looked at her as though she were a princess. She and then remembered being hungry and trying to get her aunt off the floor. Padre G saw her almost cry and she commented about the hungry children. He said they needed much more and she said she wanted to help.

Art took cash from Esme (why?) and said something about the shooter was not yet identified.

Tirso handed money to Eva and they talked about why he came back. He said someone had to pay and she told him not to do anything foolish.

Sandy showed off her ring to Berenice and then took out their nice dresses. Chacho came to ask Berenice to the fair. Sandy good-naturedly teased her about him, as in “He's not the priest, but that uniform!”

Lorenzo rode on the kids' ferris wheel, then ran after Berenice to get her to dance with him. Chacho cut in and took Berenice onto the dance floor.

Minnie ate alone at the dining table. She poured a glass of wine for Dalia and asked whether she had always been in love with Don Patricio.

Sorry for the length but this episode seems to have important details in it.

Considering the revelations from Aaron, is Lorenzo the Claudius of this little fiefdom? Is he the son of Esme who had never seen him? Where would he have been taken after birth?

We have to hope that Sab will end up in the prison at the end now that we've had our suspicions confirmed.

If Esme is not Mateo's mother, who is?

Leo is such a cruel and wannabe controlling so-and-so. I'm thinking worse words, but not using them. Wishing Val success in learning about her past life.

Val's feria outfit--don't remember seeing it before, but thought it was an exaggerated attempt at updating a traditional dress. Way over done.

Lots of puzzles to solve in this one.

OMG OMG OMG Vale's dress. What did Michelle Reynaud do to the wardrobe department to make them want to punish her like that? She looked like a Dollar Store threw up on her.

Anyway, UA, thanks for the recap. I hope we can find someone to do Fridays soon. If not, we may want to drop back to just discussion and not summaries.

In answer to some of your embedded questions:

- Padre G's proverb was something along the lines of, "When rulers are just, the people are happy, but when they are not, the people suffer." It was probably an actual passage from the Book of Proverbs, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

- I was also too lazy to figure out what Val wrote on the back of the photo, although the pieces were pretty visible when Sandy gave it back to Leonel.

- Mat asked the Virgin for a sign about what to do, and in comes the jeweler saying "the ring's ready!" Why would the Virgin do that to him? And us?

- Esme pays Art some of the profits from the illegal gambling operation every month so he doesn't shut down the illegal gambling operation.

- I think Sandy was just lobbying Mat to have the wedding at the hacienda, not to live in it. Either way, he's not on board.

What is getting me is that the Argentine original of this series was 273 episodes. I hope this is a bit shorter, but this story already has enough going on that it could run that long.

I am not a fan of La Rosa de Guadalupe because I am not a believer in such things. What could be the case here is a lesson about hasty promises. We know that Sandy is a bitch but so far she has managed to play the innocent little girl in front of Dalia, who is unlikely to see the truth about her for a long time.
