Jueves – Parte 1

This could be called: One misunderstanding after another.

We open with Paulina’s podcast. She asks her listeners if it’s correct for parents to lie to their children. Then she rolls on about parenting having been a constant process of learning from one’s children. And she asks them to think about a question during the music interval: “What did the adult know about what you needed when you were a child?” Angie, the world’s biggest suckup, coos with pleasure outside the studio.

At the high school our Too Cool for School Pete asks Jess out again. She looks him in the eye and tells him that, while he may be a popular guy at the school, she isn’t interested in going out with him and she’d like him to quit asking.

Loli picks up Nicki and Sam from school. Sam keeps rudely refusing any overtures from Loli, while Nicki gives her a hug.

When Loli and the kids arrive home, Sam says she wants salad without aderezo (dressing). Nora snarks at Loli about being home at a respectable hour. Loli tells Nicki his hair is a mess and drags him off to the bathroom. She does some violent brushing and gets enough hair out for the DNA test.

Nora is now at Bruno’s and up in Marcelino’s face about the money she’s owed for selling the avocados. Bruno overhears them.

Bruno is furious for Marcelino’s having put his mother at risk. And, pulling out the photos of Marcelino’s mistress, he tells Marcelino he’ll show them to Melissa if his mother doesn't get paid. This is Bruno wanting to assure his mother at least gets the money, but Melissa…right on cue…is listening outside the door and jumps immediately to: “Bruno has a lover!”

Paulina and Rafael are talking. I think they are at home, but I’m not sure. She seems sincere and tells him that she hasn’t put her family first. And she really thought that, if they lived together again, their marriage could be like it was before.

Jess shows up at Sam’s house saying she can’t stand to see her parents.

Melissa gets hold of Bruno’s phone while he’s napping. She manages to hold his eyes open, I guess for the facial recognition. She sees the photos of Marcelino’s squeeze and also that she’s pregnant.

Another misunderstanding. Apparently Octavio is at Loli, Sam, and Nicki’s house. Sam lights into him, I believe because she overheard Loli and he talking about a paternity test. Octavio keeps trying to say he doesn’t plan to just stop seeing Nicki, but she doesn’t listen. Loli comes in, having heard part of this and gets teary-eyed. She says that all of this is her fault for having searched for Octavio. He reassures her then hands her an envelope with, presumably, the big Q-Tip with his saliva. Loli then begs him not to take Nicki away.

Melissa sends herself the photos off Bruno’s phone.

Jueves – Parte 2

Jess tells Sam that her parents have been lying to her, and that they are only together because of her mother’s book.

Another eavesdropper: Loli is outside Sam’s bedroom and hears this. We see several flashbacks to the Happy Family show Paulina was putting on before.

Back to Rafa and Pau. Pau finds Jessica’s location on her phone and is NOT happy that her daughter is at Sam’s after Rafa identifies the location. What she doesn’t want and even outright says so is for Jessica to tell LOLI about their fake marriage.

Octavio finds the boy he rescued earlier gathering up some cardboard and guesses it’s to sleep on in the alley behind the bar. He offers the boy to sleep that night on his couch. At first the kid misinterprets Octavio’s motives but, after some back and forth, the boy accepts.

Matías is at the adoption agency making excuses for why Arturo is not there.

Meanwhile Art has come to Hunky Bar. He looks around, a bit shocked. Apolo is behind the bar. Art tells Apolo that he’s Mati’s husband, and can they talk.

Rox has invited some of the women from Global Radio out for drinks. While they down some tequila shots, the women are praising her show where she talked about being single and happy with herself. Rox then just groans saying she was echandoles un chorro mareado (pouring it on). Then she tells them she wants to take them somewhere else.

Apolo and Art talk. Apolo says that, yes, Mati came to see him and not Octavio and thus lied. But they only talked some about the problems Mati was having with Art. Art asks if he was nude when they had this talk, but Apolo tells him to slow his roll…they were just talking as friends. It looks like Apolo has Art convinced when a drunken Rox rolls up and ruins everything. She first scolds Apolo for having something going on with Art, a married man. Then she talks about Art and Mati having an empate (a draw or a tie) which to Art means that Rox thinks both he and Mati had sex with Apolo. Art walks out.

Rox has a moment of regret. ¡Regue! ¡Regue!( I screwed up! ) But she’s too far gone to dwell on this much. She asks Apolo where Romeo is and hears that he’s dancing with a client. She pushes the woman aside and coos something to him. Romeo tells her she needs to go home.

After leaving Hunky Bar, Art goes to an upscale bar with a smooth jazz soundtrack. Of course some guy is there who starts chatting him up. At first Art rebuffs the guy but then says that HE loves a guy, but the guy NO.

At Loli’s house (which once was Mariana’s house) the 3 Amigos are on Loli’s bed talking over the “fraud” about Rafa and Pau pretending to be happily married. [I’m sorry. This whole conversation is hardly worth writing down.] Loli even says something about telling Rogelio. Mati is the only one with any sense and tells her she can’t do that. When Mati mentions Art not being in touch with him, Rox gets a dismayed look in her face. Uh oh!

Jueves – Parte 3

Mati is furious with Rox for having done what she did and storms out.

The boy (still don’t know his name) falls immediately asleep on Octavio’s couch. He gently takes his shoes off.

Gonzalo shows up at $400/hour to tell Rafa and Pau to talk to their daughter.

The next morning the unbelievably rude Nora starts griping at Loli about having unknown people in the house. Jess almost leaves. Rox isn’t having it and calls her metiche (buttinsky).

Octavio has made breakfast for the boy. He begins to wolf it down. Octavio asks him a couple of questions and the boy bristles. Octavio gently said that he was in the same situation himself and just wanted to talk with him about it. He goes on to say that they have more in common than the boy might think. The boy doesn’t want any handouts. He wants to work for what he gets. Looks like he’ll be working at Hunky Bar.

At Casa Bruno the family is at breakfast. Bruno and Marcelino notice Melissa is downcast. Carol only asks her grandfather when the stuff he bought for her will be delivered. Bruno gets a call from H.R. at Global Radio. There’s some problem with his background check. Hmmm. Bruno doesn’t seem as worried about this as I’d have expected. But Melissa, of course, thinks it’s from the amante.

After Bruno and Carol leave Melissa tells Marcelino that Bruno is deceiving her and, furthermore, the woman is pregnant! She shows him the photos she sent to her own phone. Marcelino doesn’t miss a step. He tells his daughter that he knew about it. Then he shows her some pictures he apparently took of the woman giving Bruno the Heimlich maneuver that come out looking like they’re embracing. The smooth liar goes on to say that he didn’t want to tell Melissa until he had the pictures to prove it. And that he approached the woman and begged her to leave Bruno alone. [This guy is amazing; he’s OK with seeing his daughter with tears running down her cheeks rather than have his plan to run away to Mexico with this mistress get screwed up.]

Mati is at home. He makes one more call to Art and leaves a message saying that what Rox said was a mistake, and he needs to talk with him.

Art has spent the night with new guy and we see him listen to Mati’s voice mail message. He looks concerned and guilty.

Some probably famous guy I’m unfamiliar with shows up at Global Radio for an interview with Rox. She tells him that she has an emergency and needs to do an interview with Paulina Castro. He says he came to LA just for the interview. Rox tries to make nice. Actually the guy takes it pretty well.

Loli and Rafa are in his office and hear Rox’s interview with Paulina begin. Rox asks Paulina what she thinks of marriages of convenience! Then Loli asks Rafa how he feels about people who deceive other people.

Loli

Thanks, novelera, for the recap. I think you deserve special praise for recapping an episode I thought was very frustrating and upsetting. I LOL’d when I read “[I’m sorry. This whole conversation is hardly worth writing down.]” I sort of felt that way about most of the episode and I found my attention drifting at times.

Marcelino is disgusting. He’s destroyed his daughter’s family. He knew Bruno was tailing him and he managed to take pics of the heimlich?

I am very disappointed in Art. I don't like that the writers did this.

Sorry, I have no idea who Rox’s special guest was either.

For me, Octavio was the only bright spot in the episode. I'm liking him more and more.

loli

Many thanks, novelera, for this excellent recap of a far-from-excellent episode. You've disproved the saying "you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear."

I loved your snark, such as "Too Cool for School Pete" and "Gonzalo shows up at $400/hour to tell Rafa and Pau to talk to their daughter." I also greatly appreciated your including some Spanish. Of the words/phrases you defined, I knew only ¡Regue! and metiche (a sure sign I've watched lots of novelas).

Once again, Octavio shone. His gently taking off the boy's sneakers was especially touching. It was one of the few events in this episode that wasn't ludicrously overdone.

And speaking of ludicrously overdone, Pau's makeup made her look like a statue, not a living person. (Hmmm...perhaps they got that right!)

Rox is the opposite of a statue, but she too is ludicrously overdone. She drinks too much, she eats too much, she talks too much and too fast, she stalks too much.... It's true that every now and then her rapid spew of words is insightful, such as when she says "what if Pau is a fraud but Rafa isn't?" But her excessiveness is really beginning to bother me.

Loli

Thank you novelera for the great recap! So, I am pretty sure the star that Rox tossed out is Manuel Turizo also known as (MTZ). He is a Colombian reggaetón singer. I try to be hip for my 18-year-old niece!

So many funnies novelera that dondi356 and Juanita already pointed out. I also wondered why the expensive $400 lawyer was called in just to tell those two to talk to their daughter. Too cool for school Pete certainly was put in his place by Jess!

I really disliked the whole Marcelino story and like dondi356, I was restlessly absent minded in watching these segments. I really felt sorry for Melissa, can’t believe her dad would be so cruel. Marcelino and Norita are the worst.

What the heck with Art? He hops in bed with the first guy that crosses his path? I thought Mati had self-esteem issues, but clearly it is Art that has some deep-set issues.

Novelera, I appreciate you clearing up the whole Loli almost viciously brushing poor Nicky’s hair. I didn’t understand that she was getting the DNA sample. Also, I had no idea until reading your recap what the Spanish word for salad dressing was!

I agree with all of you that Octavio was the bright, shiny star of the show last night. I thought it was interesting that he did tell the street urchin teen they had similar situations. I have always liked Octavio the best in this novela.

Rafa was again acting weird from Wednesday night’s episode so I am not sure he feels bad about lying to his daughter or that he thinks Loli and Octavio are a thing.

loli

Thanks, guys. Terrific comments, as always. And VVS I appreciate the name of the obviously well-known guy. I was thinking rapper and almost thought about paying more attention to his name and googling him. But I just let that one go.

Something that happened in an earlier episode amused me. It was when when one of Octavio's sleepover girlfriends grabbed the cotton swab he was planning to use for the DNA test, put it in her ear, and then said "ew" when it turned out to be moist.

I despise Marcelino more than some of the out-and-out evil villains we've come to appreciate in telenovelas.

Octavio was telling the boy he had a toothbrush and towel for him when he noticed that the kid was fast asleep. Yep, that halo gets polished more in every episode.

I think, VVS, that Rafa has been pouting ever since Octavio accompanied Loli to that very awkward dinner. And Pau poured it on after they left, hinting they were overcome with lust and left before dessert.

Oh, novelera! That makes so much more sense about Rafa's behavior after the dinner party conversation. I missed that dialogue about Loli and Octavio having a "different" type of dessert!

Marcelino is definitely an awful person!

It will be interesting to see if Octavio's behavior will change once he finds out that Nicky is really his son. Or could it be possible that he is not? Hmmm...

Loli #19 part 1

So, I’m part of Rox’s show, Rafa asks, is this a trick? Loli accuses him of evading the question. Their conversation is interrupted by people arriving for a business meeting.

Octavio shows the kid around and explains his job duties. He will bag the laundry and help the cook. He asks if he can I help at the bar. No, says Octavio, you are a minor and could get me in trouble with the law. Stay away from the bar. The kid asks him, why did you do this? You let me sleep at your house, gave me clothes and a job. Octavio replies, I told you we have something in common, but I didn’t have anyone to lend me a hand. Octavio continues, you have no idea what I had to do to survive. My parents were deported back to Argentina.

Apolo enters and Octavio introduces him to the kid— Gabriel. He sends Gabriel off to meet the cook. What’s going on, asks Apolo. You’re always cautious; why did you hire this kid? Octavio explains the circumstances. Apolo smiles and says, since Nicky the dad inside of you has come out. Are we running a bar or a nursery?

Loli starts her business pitch and Vicente enters and pulls her away. He wants to know what’s up with Rox. Vicente has tried for months to get Manuel Turizo and Rox bumped him of her show. His manager, his label and his fans are ticked. Not a good start, Loli, he tells her, fix it.

Norita is bugging Marcelino for her money again. Melissa comes into the conversation telling Nora to trust her father, he would never play dirty again. What? Again? What are you talking about asks Nora. Oops! Mel says she was joking, and Marcelino puts in a word about how honest he is. Melisa says her father is not like Nora’s son. Shocked Nora asks Marcelino, what did my son do to Melissa? Nothing, just the usual couple’s stuff, answers Marcelino. Marcelino continues to BS and stall about paying Nora. Nora really needs the money for the custody battle. The truth is she is drowning in debts. She forgot how expensive it is to live in the US. Marcelino says not to worry, he will be in touch and he ushers her out.

Rafa has something to tell Loli. He assumes his daughter has told her something about his marriage situation. Given these circumstances, Rafa wants to tell her the truth. Loli doesn’t give him a chance to speak; she jumps all over him. It was all a lie, she exclaims! She calls him a liar and says he’s lied to her ever since they met at that bar. Loli continues, you told me you were getting a divorce and then you weren’t. I’m the one with the problem, for trusting you and letting you kiss me.

Rafa finally manages to get a word in. He tells her what she thinks isn’t true. She doesn’t let him explain. Loli says, whatever you say will be a lie. She shouts, you and Paulina are frauds! And that’s the moment Pau walks in.

Jess tells Sam she doesn’t want to go home; she doesn’t want to see her parents. Sam tells her she can stay with her as long as she needs. Gus and Pete walk up and ask what’s going on. None of your business is the answer. Pete apologizes to Jess for the other day. They invite the girls for ice cream.

Pau tells Loli to mind her own business. Loli thinks this is her business because this is her job. She accuses Pau of selling lies. You are a fraud, she says, you and your books! Rafa interrupts and says, you only know what Jess told you and it’s not true. Jess doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Loli is all wound up. Do you know why your daughter is staying at my house? Loli says she won’t be an accomplice to this. Rafa says ok, just don’t say anything to anyone. Deal? Just at this moment, Octavio shows up and Pau and Rafa take the opportunity to leave. He wants the DNA samples; he will take them to the lab. Loli hands them over and he leaves.

loli #19 part 2

Rox complains to Mati that Vicente preempted her show. Well, what did she expect, she blindsided Pau and she blew off Manuel Turizo. Mati reminds her what she did with Arturo. Rox apologizes to Mati and asks him if he has spoken to Art yet. He’s read Mati’s texts but has not answered. Rox thinks it will take a few days and he will come around.

David calls Rox. She tells him she has nothing to discuss with him. He should go back to his Russian girlfriend. She hangs up on him and blocks him. Mati congratulates her.

Pau begs Rafa to keep Loli quiet. Her career is on the line. Rafa says he will talk to her and they need to talk to Jess, too.

Melissa goes to Global. She sees Pau hug Bruno and thinks she’s caught him red handed. Mel jumps out of the car and attacks. She’s shocked to see its Paulina Castro! She smiles at Pau and sneers at Bruno.

Octavio catches Gabriel stealing a bottle of liquor. Gabe tries to deny and then says he was taking the bottle for himself. Octavio says there are better ways of forgetting your problems. He asks Gabe to come with him.

Bruno apologizes for his wife. And Mel apologizes for the misunderstanding. It’s obvious a woman like Pau would never be interested in her husband. Pau cuts her off and suggests Mel buy her book, “Marriage Fatigue”. Mel asks if Pau would autograph it for her. Yes, and Pau takes off.

Bruno can’t believe that Mel has shown up at his job. Are you trying to get me fired? Yes, she says, and she wants him out of the house. Did you think I wouldn’t find out about your pregnant lover? She shows him the Heimlich pictures Marcelino sent her. Bruno tries to explain; she’s your father’s lover, not mine. He asks her to get in the limo so he can explain.

Meanwhile, Rafa makes another attempt to explain his situation to Loli. She feels disappointed and hurt. He had the chance to explain before. He could have said it was an arrangement, that it was for the book. Rafa says it is much more complicated than that. Pau and I were going to divorce because she was unfaithful, he says. Loli’s inner voice says, Paulina Castro cheated on you? Loli tells Rafa, I know you want me to keep quiet so this doesn’t cause you trouble, right? Wrong, says Rafa, but you would be doing me a favor if you kept quiet. (Does Loli really care about the business ethics? She told Rafa she was disappointed and hurt. This is purely personal for her.)

Pau and Rafa meet up when he leaves Loli’s office. She’s upset about “her career” and asks if he has spoken to Loli. She asks for a hug and kisses him. Of course, that’s when Loli appears around the corner and sees this.

Art comes home. Mati confronts him. Where were you? Why didn’t you call? You stood me up at the adoption agency and didn’t come home. Art doesn’t want to argue. Mati wants to talk. He knows what Rox said to him. We could have worked it out. Art tells Mati, I thought it would be pointless. I got tired of you lying to me and your insecurity and selfishness.

Mati tries to explain. Rox was drunk when she told you. You know I’d never do anything with Apolo. Art doesn’t care. Mati asks Art, what did you do last night? Art admits he was with another guy and that’s why he didn’t come home.

dondi356

Loli #19 part 3

Bruno comes home and demands Marcelino tell his daughter the truth. Tell her the blonde is your lover, not mine, he says. Mel goes to her father’s side and they team up against Bruno. Marcelino has the gall to say he told Mel the truth; he followed Bruno and caught him. Mel believed him when he showed her the photos. But since I love you like a son, he tells Bruno, I took the liberty of talking to the woman and told her to stay away from you so she wouldn’t destroy your marriage. Marcelino puts his hand on Bruno’s shoulder and says, you can see the child when it’s born. He’s your son and he’s innocent in all this. No, no, tell the truth, Bruno begs. Mel tells Bruno to leave the house. Marcelino adds, you heard my daughter. (Mel and Marcelino each deserve a giant anvil.)

Octavio takes Gabriel to a basketball court and they join a pickup game.

Mati can’t believe what has happened. You believed Rox and cheated on me? Art knows it was stupid and he feels bad about it. Mati says he was doing everything to save the relationship. He came back, he went to the adoption agency. He did it to make Art happy. Art says, you were going to be a dad just to please me? Art asks for time. He’s leaving the house.

Gus asks Sam about Jess as they go to get ice cream. She says it’s something with her parents.

Pete opens up to Jess. I know I act like an idiot sometimes, he tells her. But he wants to change. It’s not easy. He was a nerd in middle school and was bullied. To defend himself, he eventually became one of them. Jess says at least he admits it. She laughs and he’s happy he got her to smile, even if it was at his expense. Pete flatters her, you’re so pretty when you smile.

Loli rips up something that must be related to Pau. She calls them (Pau and Rafa) scammers. She looks at Mari’s pic and says, they made a fool of me. Tell me what to do. Loli he makes call to Rogelio; can we talk for a minute?

Loli tells Rogelio, I’d like to talk to you about Paulina Castro. Yes, he heard Loli was not working on Pau’s podcast. He thinks that’s too bad. How are things working with Rafa? Loli says she wanted to discuss him, too. Rogelio asks, you’re you getting along better, aren’t you? He tells her Rafa appreciates her and was worried. He knows your situation with your godchildren isn’t easy. Rogelio says, just give it time and things will work out. Then he asks what she wanted to say about Pau and Rafa. She chickens out and tells him they are preparing interesting proposals for him. She will call when they are ready and she apologizes for taking up his time.

Art has packed his bag. Mati still can’t believe it. We were going to adopt and save the relationship, he says. Art says it’s a good thing there’s time to call it off. Mati thinks Art has been cheating for a while. Art tells him no he never cheated before. Mati again tells Art he has never cheated.

Ball game is over, and Gabe gets a compliment from one of the players. Gabe wants to take off and get tacos, but Octavio wants him to eat a good meal. Gabe says he doesn’t need a dad and Octavio replies he doesn’t need a son. They go off together.

Pete wants to know what’s going on with Jess. He gives good advice. She is vague; it’s parent stuff. She doesn’t want to bore him with her problems. Sam and Gus return with the ice cream and Sam says it’s time to go.

Rox forgot to block David on Friendbook and he contacts her. She’s annoyed and asks him why he tagged her in a photo. He did it because he wants everyone to know how he feels about her. Now you are doing this, Rox says, after you denied me to your friends? She tells him to go shout it from the top of the Empire State Building. He asks her not to be so hard on him. He thinks that she misses him. He’s going crazy without her. He asks for another chance.

dondi356

loli #19 part 4

Pau tells Rafa she needs to feel they are together in this. Yes, he says, as Jess’s parents. Things are wrong with Loli, he says. Not what Pau wants to hear. You’re thinking about Loli? Yes, he thinks about Loli, Jess and the whole office because our problems have become everyone’s business. Pau asks him to admit he has feelings for Loli. He readily admits he has feelings for Loli.

Yes, he has feelings for Loli, but since he’s back with Pau, nothing has happened. Pau asks why he hasn’t told her this before. Rafa says what for? This isn’t working and the extra two months have just complicated things. Pau tells him to go for it, get in line behind Octavio and Armando. Now that Loli knows how things are, she won’t have a problem being with you. Pau thinks back to when she saw them almost kiss. She doesn’t believe nothing has happened between them. Rafa brings up Pau’s cheating and that she hasn’t told him who she cheated with. Pau leaves.

Rox tells David what they had was dead and buried. David says every couple goes through a rough patch. No, we have nothing, she says, you denied my existence to your friends. And you told them you were with a Russian model. David admits what he did was awful. He can’t change what happened, but he can do is prove he has changed. if you want me back, she says, you will have to try harder. So, there is a chance? She doubts it. David is ready to accept the challenge. She closes her laptop and smiles.

Bruno is packing and fuming over Marcelino’s lies. Mel comes in and says she won’t stand for this. Bruno thinks she finally believes him but it’s just that she doesn’t want him taking the luggage. Bruno can’t understand why she believes her father. He’s a proven liar. My father may be a liar, she says, but he would never cheat on my mom. Especially with a tramp like that! Mel walks out with the luggage while Bruno is turned away. He ends up talking to himself—he loves her, he forgives her and he’s staying. Or not. (He’s better off without her.)

Loli is drinking at home this time. Nicky gives her a bunch of papers. For the school pictures, for the field trip, for the fair. Nicky tells her she will have to make cookies for the back sale. His mom made the best cookies. Oh, and one more thing—he has soccer practice tomorrow. Can you pick me up? Loli says she can’t because her work schedule is full. Norita volunteers for pick up and Loli decides to clear her schedule. In fact, she decides to work from home. Norita warns Loli not to leave Nicky stranded again.

Sam and Jess come in. Loli asks Jess to tell her parents she is staying over again. Jess asks Loli to text them. Loli texts Rafa. Pau asks Rafa what is wrong. Nothing, Jess is staying at Sam’s again. Pau is not happy. She tells Rafa they really need to talk to her. He agrees but says Jess needs a little space, too. When Pau leaves the room, he texts Loli back, thanks for letting my daughter stay.

Bruno leaves the house of horrors but not before he suffers more abuse at the hands of his wife and FIL. Not worth mentioning details. Discuss if you have the stomach for it.

Rafa and Angie are meeting. He’s distracted and asks her if Loli is here. Angie has no idea and wants to know what’s going on with her. She sensed tension in the office yesterday. He says it was about Rox.

Rafa gets up and asks Mati if he has seen Loli. He tells Rafa that Loli is working from home today. Rafa asks if she is sick. No. A weird exchange starts. Rafa wonders if Loli mentioned anything. Mati says that Loli tells him everything. So, Rafa says, you know…. Yes, Mati does…but then he says he thinks he knows but he doesn’t know… They beat around the bush like this, but I think they both know. (do you know?)

dondi356

Loli #19 part 5

Gabe had some trouble with the cook. Octavio tells Gabe, you can’t talk to him like that. Seems the cook shouted at him and he wasn’t going to take it. Octavio tells him next time to bite his tongue and not cause problems. Octavio gets a call from a woman and makes a date for the night. Gabe says to let him know if he’s in the way. Octavio will figure that out and he sends Gabe to go apologize to the cook.

Jess thanks Loli for letting her stay. Loli tells her if she ever wants to talk… Jess isn’t ready to talk and Sam jumps in to back her up. There’s some discussion on how the kids can do their history project and Loli can get her videocalls done. Nicky reminds Loli to pick him up from soccer practice.

Loli makes a call to Mati to see how things are at the office. He tells her your Rafa “anda en llamas” – is on fire. Where are you? Loli asks, what did he say? The doorbell rings and Loli will call Mati back. It’s Pau at her door. She tells Loli, I’m here to talk to my daughter and to you, Loli. You need to hear me out.

And we are out.

Many thanks, dondi356, for another superb recap.

I loved your asides. In response to "(do you know?)"--no, I don't. And I strongly agree with "(He's better off without her.)" Absolutely! Melissa is a selfish, mercenary leech. I have the awful feeling that she and Bruno will be reconciled at the end, but I really would prefer to see her trade her expensive outfits for a prison-orange jumpsuit. I should add, though, that I enjoyed the scene where she confronts Paulina, thinking she's caught Bruno with his lover. Once she realizes it's her idol, Paulina Castro, Melissa keeps switching back and forth between smiles for Paulina and scowls for Bruno. I bet her facial muscles now ache.

I'm still not trusting Too Cool for School Pete. He does seem to be showing a different side of himself, but it also could be that he's showing he's a smooth operator who knows what it takes to win someone over.

What was the point of the basketball game? Why did Octavio decide that's what Gabriel needed? What if Gabriel were mediocre at basketball? Or bored by it? I even wondered whether Telemundo was giving us a feel-good lesson in race relations. Anyway, the scene seemed rather far-fetched to me.

Well, Paulina may not have told Rafa who she cheated with, but I suspect we know: slimeball Vicente.

Of course Loli sees Rafa and Pau kissing. I've seen enough telenovelas to realize that Telenovela Technology is as amazing as Telenovela Airlines and Telenovela Medicine. Telenovela Technology has apparently developed a way to have touching lips send a signal to a select list of people on a Need-To-See Basis.

loli

Wonderful recap, dondi!

I can't remember if I've ever seen a novela where EVERYONE is harebrained. I keep rooting for Loli and for that suerte, but the writers haven't done Silvia any favors.

At least she managed not to "out" Pau and Rafa to Rogelio. I think this was perhaps less chickening out than coming to her senses. And this whole "fraud" thing is insanely over the top. Why in the world would Rogelio give a rat's patootie about the state of Rafa's marriage?

I also fear that Bruno will reconcile with the witch he married. Apparently those suitcases were more of her "designer" purchases. And Bruno left with his things in plastic garbage bags.

Juanita, for some reason, I am believing Pete. You could be right and it's a ploy for him to make another conquest, but the actor certainly exuded honesty.

One thing that is very interesting is the portrayal of a gay marriage. I believe they said Art and Mati had been married 5 years. Not quite the 7-year itch, but enough time has elapsed for some cracks to show up. The writers have portrayed both as realistic. Viewerville is probably more sympathetic with Matías, but We also see a lot of good in Art.

This coming week, I will recap Monday's episode (Feb. 22) rather than Tuesday's.

Loli

Thank you, Juanita and novelera, for reading and for your interesting comments.

I don’t completely trust Too Cool for School Pete either. He will have to work harder to convince me. I’d hate to see Jessica fall into a trap.

Octavio wanted to show Gabriel a healthier way to relieve his frustrations. Basketball is a much better option than drowning your sorrows in drink. Remember Gabriel stole that bottle to drink. Gabriel is lucky to have Octavio as a mentor. I guess it was Telenovela Magic that it worked out well.

Novelera, I see your point about Loli “coming to her senses” rather than chickening out. When Rogelio told her how much Rafa understood her situation and cared about her getting her job back, I think she also felt a bit guilty about possibly ruining things for him. Loli made a comment that Rafa treated her well despite his being married. Not sure if Pau’s and Rafa’s “agreement” rises to a legal definition of fraud, so why would Rogelio care what goes on in their marriage.

The portrayal of Mati’s and Art’s marriage is noteworthy and I’m glad the writers are taking it seriously. It’s one of the few storylines that I take seriously and find interesting. The actors are doing a good job with it, too.
