Wow, VVS, it would be wonderful if you'd give recapping a try! Right now we normally have recappers for Tuesday (me), Thursday (novelera), and Friday (dondi356). That leaves Monday and Wednesday as the days we normally need a recapper. Of course, this week was a bit different. I did a recap on Monday instead of Tuesday, and dondi356 did one on Tuesday. I think she intended that as an extra--that is, in addition to Friday. However, she may be happy to take you up on your offer to do one this Friday. Let's wait to hear from her.
Jueves – Parte 1 de 3
From the night before. We see Paulina scurry into the kitchen to hide when Rafa shows up unexpectedly at Vicente’s place. He tells Vicente he wants to get a divorce and be with Loli, and Pau hears this.
We open with Sam and Jess having finished the podcast they were working on in the previous episode. It was meant to be some kind of high school history project, I believe, because the two girls talked about Cleopatra, Marc Antony, and Octavian. Rafa and Loli applaud them. Sam, not sour for once, embraces Loli. The girls leave, planning to make a stop at the snacks machine. Rafa says that, since the other technicians aren’t there, they’ll have to work on the podcast themselves.
Vicente is shopping for an engagement ring. The jeweler reminds him that this would be his third purchase. He tells the jeweler that he chooses his wives well, smirking. He says that the new woman is very important, actually recognizable. And she’s about to be divorced. The jeweler: “”Are you getting married or signing a business contract?” Vicente, grinning: “Isn’t it the same thing?”
Octavio finds a bracelet with “Loli” on it from the night he was romancing her a bit and the other two women showed up. Gabriel walks in and Octavio asks him to do something for him.
Jess and Sam are at home (Sam’s home) and are having a video call with Pete and Gus. They’re telling the boys about the podcast. The doorbell rings.
It’s Gabriel. Right away he gives Sam an admiring look. He asks if Loli lives here. Sam replies that Loli is her Godmother, but she’s out. She smiles at him and says he can leave the thing with her. [I think Gus may have some competition.]
David shows up at Rox’s house with more flowers. [I wonder if there are any more red roses in LA?] Rox is pleased to see him, but he has brought some friends with him and she’s not as pleased about that. [I’m sure this is to show Rox he’s not ashamed of her.]
Rafa and Loli have worked so well together they’re amazed at how the time has flown. They kiss sweetly a couple of times, but then the clothes start to fly. We see Loli’s trasero (bottom), but clothed of course, rest on the controls.
Vicente tries to convince Pau to stay at his place. She tells him that she won’t change her plans for him; until her book is out, she isn’t going to divorce. She also tells him she can’t wrap her head around being a divorced woman. She’s packed up.
Gabriel gives Sam the bracelet. He overhears Jess on the phone and thinks the two are talking with their boyfriends. Sam denies it, smiling. He perks up and says: “Oh, that means you don’t have a boyfriend?”
Loli and Rafa are on some sofa that I think magically appeared in the studio. They have that glow! He says that she’s killed him. What did she do to him? Loli laughs and says that then she’d have to call 911 and tell them that the VP of Global Radio kicked the bucket.
Jueves – Parte 2 de 3
Rafa gets serious and starts to tell her he wants to be with her. He even mentions marriage and (gasp) children. Loli starts backtracking. She tells him she snores horribly. She demonstrates how she snorts like a pig when she laughs. Rafa says he loves carnitas. After a lot of this back and forth, Loli ends up agreeing to think about it.
So…from a pleasant scene we are then transported to a scene that makes Chaplin’s Little Tramp escapades seem sophisticated. Rox starts throwing darts at David by asking the man and woman he’s brought if they like her better than the Russian bikini model. She goes on like this for a while and then the doorbell rings. It’s Matias. First she shuts the door in his face. Then she hustles David and the guests out of sight and lets him in. Mati can’t figure out what’s going on. She doesn’t want to admit to him that David is there. At some point she tells David and the couple that her casero (landlord) has come because his husband treats him badly. As she hustles them out, she says something about wanting to help gay relationships.
Loli comes home and has a text from Rafa that she has to hastily hide so Jess won’t see it. She sends the girls the finished podcast and says she’s off to take a shower. Nicky waylays her and says he can’t reach Octavio. He wants to have his father bring him to a “Bring your child to work day”. But Octavio hasn’t been returning his calls. Loli insists he can’t go to the bar and should come to Global Radio instead.
Gabriel gripes to Octavio about Sam being fresita y sangrona (preppy and disagreeable). Octavio tells him that Sam is good people, but Loli.. sí ésa es fresita sangrona. [Pretty sure this remark is because Gabriel told him that Loli wasn’t home at that hour.] [Why do they have Octavio 24/7 with a lollipop in his mouth? Is this supposed to show he’s carefree?]
Loli is in bed remembering her time in the studio with Rafa when Nicky comes in. He’s wet the bed. She touches him to make sure his pajamas are dry and then gets him into bed with her. She comforts him, saying even she’s wet the bed! She puts the stuffed animal in his arms and hugs both. When he falls asleep she googles bedwetting at age 8 and reads that it could be emotional or tension in the child.
Loli shows up early in the morning to ask Octavio why he’s ignoring Nicky’s calls. He asks what about their relationship. She tells him that Nicky is harina del otro costal (lit. flour of another sack or that’s another story). She asks about the DNA test and he tells her he tore it up. She lights into him and also says (shades of Todo por Mi Hija) that they could get another copy from the testing place. She tells him that Nicky was calling about the Bring Your Child to Work Day. When he doesn’t offer right away, she starts calling him names and leaves.
At Global Radio Rox gets some more flowers but won’t show Mati the card. [The night before he saw the woman guest leave and jumped to the conclusion that Rox had changed teams.] He tells her that un clavo no saca a otro clavo (usually this is not said as a negative and means a new love can get rid of the pain of the old one).
Jueves – Parte 3 de 3
Angie comes looking for something she misplaced in the studio. She notices a recording that was left on. She puts on the headphones and listens. She mutters: “someone applauding…someone running in sandals…a dog drinking water. Ah, it’s a couple making love!” She leaves the studio and approaches Guadalupe, the office gossip, and asks her who stayed late. Lupe runs through a list of people, adding a bit of gossip about each one, and ends up with Rafa and Loli. Angie obviously seems interested in this but she clams up and won’t tell Lupe a thing.
Nicky is trying (it appears with little success) to get help with his homework from his Tío Bruno when there’s a knock at the door. It’s Octavio. Bruno starts in. Nicky is a child, while he himself can tolerate disappointments like not getting a job in the bar. Octavio takes the hint and tells Bruno he’ll see what he can do.
Rafa calls Gonzalo, his lawyer, and says he wants the divorce proceedings sped up. Gonzalo says that he’ll call Pau’s lawyer and let Rafa know when the bomb explodes.
Vicente comes into Rafa’s office and Rafa tells him that, whether Pau goes along with it or not, he’s going to have his divorce and a chance with Loli. Vicente cheers him on.
Gah! We’re at Global Radio and Berta is back, face as sour as ever. Loli is talking up her better job and ability to have flex hours to spend more time with the kids. Just then Nicky enters with Octavio and blurts out that his father couldn’t take him to the bar but he brought him to the station to be interviewed. Berta consults her notes and comes up with Octavio being the bio dad. She reminds Loli that she said he wasn’t in the picture and tells her that hiding things is a bad sign.
Loli calls Rox and the next thing we see is Octavio’s interview on Rox’s program. Rox talks about his muscles and looking like a galán, but he’s all in as a father. Octavio says that, when a man has an opportunity to be this role for someone…, something inside tells one that this time one should do things the right way. Rafa comes in, looking jealous and asking why Rox is interviewing this guy. But Nicky is thrilled. [I’m starting to get whiplash from Octavio’s mood swings.]
In Loli’s office Rox accuses her of constantly changing her mind about Octavio. Loli says that she just wanted him to look good in front of Nicky and why did Rox ask him all those fatherhood questions?
Nicky goes off to play on Loli’s tablet. Octavio comes in for a moment and makes a remark about sourpuss Berta.
Rafa comes into Loli’s office and wants to have her over for a movie, pizza or sushi. She mentions the kids also, and he looks crestfallen, but says OK.
Pau shows up in Rafa’s office, still lying about having been at a conference. She asks if he told anyone about their getting a divorce. He waffles a bit. She also says she noticed that he took a lot of his things with him. She says something about how this will affect her career and Rafa doesn’t cave. He tells her that, if she’s sincere, her fans will understand. Paulina: “Are you in love with Loli”?
Fantastic recap, novelera! Your asides and observations were spot on. And I always appreciate the sprinkle of vocabulary you provide.
So, do you really think all Loli wants is a good time with Rafa? They are making Rafa seem needy. We have also seen Rox with more than one man. TN “rules” have been turned upside down in this show.
I expect Loli’s and Rafa’s sexcapade in the booth will somehow be exposed by Angie. Or maybe it will be used for blackmail.
That whole scene in Rox’s apartment was ridiculous.
There was a spark between Sam and Gabriel.
Vicente is really slime. This actor played “Super Javi” on ESDLC for several seasons. Believe it or not, narco Javi was a much more likable character than Vicente.
I thought I saw Octavio fish the DNA result out of the trash. What did he do with it?
Weird how Nora just seems to disappear from time to time with no explanation.
At least we were spared Melissa and Marcelino.
dondi356
VVS, if you would like to give recapping a try tonight, I’m all for it. Just let me know for sure.
dondi356
Super duper recap novelera thank you! Your attention to detail is impressive and side comments made me laugh! I also appreciate the Spanish lessons! There are so many side comments and colloquialisms from Loli that not even Octavio understands sometimes! Why does Octavio have a lollipop in his mouth all the time? Maybe he stopped smoking and this helps? I think you are correct that it is just to show he is so happy go lucky.
One good think about this episode, with the exception of Bruno for short time, it is was free from Norita and that hot mess of a family.
That whole Rox scene was over the top. So funny novelera that it did look like the Chaplin’s Little Tramp escapades on steroids! Did you notice that the woman guest never uttered a word? Not even when she had to find the bathroom. I think David is trying, but now Rox is caught between his deception, her fears and her friends.
Vicente comments about have a (third) wife who is successful in divorce made it sound like he plans to make money off of her, not make her happy.
I agree with you novelera that Gus has some competition from Gabriel, although I think he is the “preppy (from the streets) and disagreeable” one!
Loli and Rafa. Well, now that they broke that ice, we are sure not to have smooth sailing for a while, especially with the “recording” found by Angie. I can’t believe that the two VP’s just left all the equipment on all night after the “recording” session.
Octavio gained a few points back that he lost with me the previous episode by being kind to Nicky and trying to help Loli with that ever dark cloud presence of Berta the Beast.
Recapping:
Thank you Juanita for clarifying the schedule, I think I was confused with the change in schedule for the week. I don’t want to upset the current schedule, so let me try doing the recap on Monday as my schedule at the hospital isn’t as crazy anymore. Gratefully, we might be finally heading to some sort of break, do I dare say end, from this horrific virus.
Hi dondi356, I didn't update my page before sending my comments. I think I will just take the Monday episode. Your recaps, like novelera and Juanita are spectacular and that gives us lots to comment on during the weekend. I don't want that pressure starting off.
Thanks so much, novelera, for this wonderful recap. Like VVS, I appreciated your including some very helpful Spanish and I loved your asides. It's hard for me to pick a favorite. I guess I'll choose "[I’m starting to get whiplash from Octavio’s mood swings.]" That's a great way to describe my feelings as well.
As for Octavio and the lollipop, I like both your suggestion and VVS's. I also foound myself wondering whether there was a connection between Octavio's chain-lollipopping and Rox's always calling Loli "lollipop." Of course, that nickname makes sense for Loli, and I don't really think there's a meaningful connection to Octavio, but it just seems strange that two major characters are associated with lollipops.
I confess I don't really understand the "podcast" that apparently Sam and Jess made about their history assignment. I think it was suggested that they make a podcast so that they wouldn't think the history was so boring, but nothing we saw last night or the night before suggests that the podcast aided their understanding and would have aided a listener's understanding. In Wednesday's episode, Jess delivers her lines in a very boring way, as if she's reading them (which she is). Either Rafa or Loli comments on this and suggests she try again. So she does, and as far as I could tell, she delivered them in just as boring a fashion the second time, although Rafa and Loli praise her the second time. Perhaps the only point of even mentioning the history assignment was so that Viewerville would make a connection between what was happening with Cleo et al. and what's happening in the novela.
The whole Berta business is really beginning to get on my nerves. ¡Ya basta!
Wow, great comments, everyone!
dondi I think Loli has some sort of fear of commitment and doesn't want a serious relationship with Rafa nor with any man. Of course, he'll win her over. I agree that Angie, another sangrona, is going to do...something...about the sex in the booth she discovered.
VVS Thanks for catching the woman at Rox's apartment never saying a word. It was hilarious the way she physically demonstrated having to pee! You could be right about Vicente wanting to profit from Pau, but he seems, judging by his house, to not be hurting for money. I lean more toward the prestige of having a famous author as his wife. And, he said that he'd been in love with her since before Rafa came on the scene. Although, in his case, I think obsession is a better word than love.
Juanita Interesting idea about the historical love affairs of Cleopatra having some correlation with the triangles in the telenovela. And ITA about having quite enough Berta. They keep mentioning the audience before the judge. I wish they'd just have it and get it over with. I'm 99% sure Norita will not win custody.
Are you in love with Loli? No answer is Rafa’s answer and Pau understands and leaves.
Nora is pressuring Marcelino for the money again. Her friends told her they paid for the avocados. Marcelino knows but he was too embarrassed to tell Nora (embarrassed? This man knows no shame!) He tells her the bank took everything he owed them and with interest. The money is gone. He promises Nora to pay her back. Nora lets him off the hook. She says she really didn’t lose any money, it was his merch. She’s sorry about what happened to him.
Marcelino continues his scam. What am I going to do now? How will I pay the bank, he laments. You still own them money, asks a shocked Nora? He used to be a great businessman. I got in trouble, he says, because I wanted the best for my family…and Bruno. Yes, Nora knows Marce has been good to her son and she appreciates it. She takes out her checkbook! She wants to know how much he needs! Marce is reluctant to accept, but any amount will help. He will pay her back asap. He says 10 or 15K Norita’s jaw drops. Not sure how much she gave but she said she’d get close. She hands over the check. As soon as Nora leaves, Marcelino makes a call to his sidepiece. He’s got more money.
The study group shows up at Jess’s house. They won’t be there for long; Jess just wants to change her clothes. Pete signals to Gus and he occupies Sam’s attention while Pete sneaks off to Jess.
Marcelino asks Melissa to let “Bruno’s girlfriend” live in the house. Are you crazy?! Marce told her that, but the girl insisted. She’s desperate. Bruno has been a jerk, he tells Mel. She’s practically on the streets. Marce isn’t asking for the girl; he’s asking for the baby. The baby is not to blame. Neither am I, says Melisa. Marce lays it on thick—the girl has no place to go. That baby is your stepchild. What? That woman and that baby are nothing to me, she says. Marce reminds her the baby is a sibling to Carol. What will she say when she finds out you left her sibling on the street? Just when you think Marce can’t sink any lower… Sweetie, he says, I taught you values. Love, respect, compassion. What will they tell Carol? Tell her she’s my goddaughter.
Nora wants to know what is going on between Bruno and Mel. Nora says even his FIL is worried. Worried? Bruno hopes the worry makes his hair and nails and something else fall out or off. Nora wonders why he’s talking like that. Bruno says because of what he did. What did he do, asks Nora? Bruno stops short of telling. (He should know Nora just lent the crook money!)
Pete barges in on Jess while she’s changing. He grabs her and starts kissing her neck. Jess pushes him off. She tells him she doesn’t want this. Thank goodness he backs off and leaves. She falls on the bed, smiles and covers her face with her blouse. (She likes this creep?)
I don’t remember the name of Marcelino’s sidepiece. I’ll refer to her as Honey. Honey shows up at the house, luggage in tow. She thanks Mel for taking her in. Mel wants to make things clear—they will never be friends. Mel tells Honey, I’m a good person; I was raised right and I’m also a mother, and this is not the baby’s fault. Honey says Mel is right to be upset, but she thanks Mel for letting her stay. Mel leaves the room.
Honey tells Marce, she can’t stay here. Mel needs to know the truth; she is with her dad, not her husband. Honey thinks Mel would take that news much better. No, no, says Marce, we can’t say anything. We will be leaving soon. Honey gets annoyed. When will that be, she asks? You keep saying soon. Just a little bit longer, he says, let’s enjoy our time together. (Does this slimeball ever tell the truth to anyone?)
Loli is talking to Mari again. She really likes Rafa. But this is not right if he’s getting divorced because of her. Bad karma. He’s a family guy. He’s different from her. What do I do?
dondi356
NOVELERA:
GREAT RECAP..
yes: why- o -why.. did Roxi..have to hide Mathis...yes Charlie chaplin/ three stoogies..stupid!!
sorry-but. sperm donor Octavio looks like a sunburnt alcoholic coke head..
Octavio and Apolo trade words over something. Apolo asks if Octavio will come down to the bar tonight. No, he’s exhausted, he couldn’t sleep last night, and he asks Apolo to take care of things. Apolo tells him it’s like that when you have a kid and he leaves. Octavio takes some pills. We hear gunshots. Octavio and Apolo run out back and see a couple of thugs fleeing. Gabriel shouts out. He’s been shot in the arm. Octavio takes him away.
Arturo’s one night stand is on the phone in front of Mati’s house. Mati walks up behind him and hears the voice message he leaves for Art: I’m outside your house. I know you asked me not to contact you but since you didn’t answer my calls I found out where you live. Please give me five minutes to talk to you. Mati asks the guy if he was looking for Arturo. Do you know Arturo Romero, the man asks? Mati says he’s the neighbor.
Rox and David are in bed. (Where else would they be?) David suggests they go out to the bar. She makes a bunch of excuses not to go out and besides, she’s getting a migraine. David questions her, what’s up with you? You used to get upset we stayed in now you never want to go out.
Vicente is at Pau’s house, pouring some special wine for Pau. It’s a special occasion. He wants to make a toast to all the good times coming. But first, he presents Pau with a giant pair of pink diamond earrings. They are perfectly clear just like I want my relationship to be with you. Jess comes home to pack some clothes and walks in on Vicente helping Pau with the earrings. Mama?!?
Angie gets the security footage from the guard. Someone was having fun last night, he says. She watches on her laptop. She sees two people going at it but the heads are blocked from view. On a close up, she recognizes the watch she gave Rafa. But who is the woman? This is not cool, she says. Here at the office. Poor Pau. What will she do with this info?
Jess confronts Pau. You said you would never wear diamonds because the miners are exploited. Was that a lie, too? Vicente steps in and says its his fault. He gave the earrings because Pau has increased the ratings. Pau asks Jess if she’s coming home. No, she’s just getting some clothes and goes to her room. Pau is worried they almost got caught. She asks Vicente to go. Pau is mad and she doesn’t want Rafa to find out her lover is his best friend. She gives him back the earrings.
David realizes the truth. Rox admits she’s still not over what happened. She says she will take a pill and go out if he really wants to. No, he doesn’t want to force Rox. He turns out the light and snuggles up to her.
Mati tells the man he didn’t mean to eavesdrop. The man says he shouldn’t have called or come. Mati says he understands. He tells the man, my husband and I met at a bar in CDMX and had an amazing night. We thought we would be together forever. Now he’s in San Francisco and he won’t answer my calls. Mati asks him why do you think Arturo won’t see you again? Because he’s still in love with his husband, the man replies.
Octavio brings Gabriel to his friend who is a veterinarian. Gabe tells Octavio the gang bangers thought Gabe was a snitch. Octavio tells the vet, I brought you a wounded animal. The vet says, I thought you were staying out of trouble. He was but he found this injured dog on the street. Can you help him? Octavio explains to Gabe that he can’t take him to a hospital. Octavio holds Gabe while the vet treats him.
Jess is angry with her mom and doesn’t want to hear any speeches. Pau realizes Jess is upset but she reminds Jess this is her house, and she can come back whenever she wants. Pau even helps Jess pack. Well played, Pau.
Rafa is watching fútbol. There’s someone at the door. Could it be? Yes, it’s Loli! They don’t waste time getting down to business.
dondi356
Loli tells Rafa she didn’t want to come over. But, she says, this deserves a chance. Yes, Rafa says, we deserve a chance. Still, she’s hesitant. She doesn’t want to lose herself. She likes to be in control. She likes her independence. No marriage, no kids, a spinster, asks Rafa? That’s not the way Loli meant it. She asks Rafa if he believes the cliché about women in their 40s being spinsters. She tells him that this is her choice.
The vet is done with Gabriel. The vet tells Octavio, your puppy was lucky otherwise we’d have to amputate. Gabe makes a quip about the vet packing a gun. Yes, he does, because there are more dangerous animals out there. Octavio tells Gabe to get out and don’t be rude. The vet gives Octavio antibiotics for Gabe and asks where he found this kid. Octavio explains. The vet thinks Octavio is stupid. Hasn’t anyone told you not to feed strays? Octavio tells him, the kid has no one; we know what that’s like. The vet, Moncho, tells Octavio, you know the gangs aren’t going to leave him alone until they get payback. Why are you taking on these problems? Octavio thinks nothing is going to happen. He will take care of the kid.
Loli asks Rafa a question: when you meet a 40 something guy do you ask if he’s married or has kids? It’s a gender thing, she says. Guys can sleep with all the women they want and that’s perfect but if a woman sleeps with…let’s say, 56, that’s bad. Loli reaffirms her stance, no marriage, kids, etc. She asks Rafa, what do you think? He stares at her dreamily, I love it. She jumps on him, gives him a big kiss and jumps back off. She’s leaving.
Sam thinks Pau is not too bad. She didn’t fight with Jess and even helped her pack. All Jess is thinking about is if they will see Pete and Gus later. She confides that Pete snuck into her room, grabbed her, and tried to kiss her. Both girls squeal. Loli walks in. Jess asks Loli to remind her dad she needs money for class picture day. Loli says, why would I see your dad? Because you work together, Sam answers. Ah, yes, I was kidding, says Loli. Sam gives Loli a “you’re weird” look.
Gabriel asks Octavio if he’s taken others to the vet. Octavio already told him he grew up on the streets. Gabe says the streets are the school of life. Yes, says Octavio, but not everyone lives to tell the tale. Gabe thanks him; no one has ever worried about him. He will pay Octavio back. Just stay out of trouble, says Octavio. When Gabe gets up from the table, Octavio picks up the ripped DNA envelope.
Mati gets a call from the adoption agency. Do they want to continue with the process? Mati apologizes, they have had some problems. He says he will call back. Mati calls Art. Art reminds him they were taking time apart. Mati warns, he might not be available when Art is available. He wishes Art good luck with his plans.
Angie grabs Rafa as he comes in. She asks him for the time and confirms that he is wearing the watch she gave him. Angie asks Pancho, the security guard, if he was able to identify the people in the video. No, it was hard to see the faces. Pancho thinks it was one of the audio engineers and the lady from Finance. Ricardito and Paloma? Yes, he stays late in the booth and she stays late, too. Angie thinks this is possible. She asks Pancho not to tell anyone. His lips are sealed. He asks Angie not to tell anyone he did this for her.
Octavio and Apolo argue about the chances Octavio is taking by helping Gabriel. Apolo says they guys who shot Gabe are the Toucans. Octavio knows and that’s why he is helping Gabe. Apolo worries that a bar patron could get shot and what about the protesters outside the bar. Octavio reminds Apolo about some stalker that came looking for him with a gun. Apolo says that was different. Octavio already knew and trusted him. You don’t know this kid. What if he is really involved with the Toucans? Octavio has heard enough.
dondi356
Carol thinks everything is weird around their house. She says she doesn’t have a problem with Marcelino’s goddaughter staying here. She goes to her room. Mel has allowed Carol to stay home from school today. Mel reminds Honey about the rules, they are not friends and don’t mention the unmentionable (Bruno).
When Mel leaves the room, Honey tells Marce she’s not happy he’s making her stay with his daughter who hates her. Oh, he just wanted his daughter and granddaughter to spend time with the woman he loves, the mother of his child and the future owner of his empire. But ok, he will take her to a hotel if that’s what she wants. Honey says, don’t get like that. But if you want me to get along with Melissa, it’s going to be tough. She thinks I cheated with her husband. And what happens when they find out I’m going to inherit everything?
Be patient, Honey. He promised he would take her to Mexico. Honey tells Marce that he’s promised a lot, but they haven’t gone to Mexico. He hasn’t been divorced. He hasn’t put anything in her name. Well, if that’s how you feel...says Marce as he turns his back to her. Ay, no, Honey loves Marce for who he is, and she drapes herself over Marcelino from behind and holds on. Mel walks in and asks, what’s this, Dad? Thinking quickly, Honey pops something into Marce’s mouth and screams, what’s wrong? Spit it out! She gives Marce a fake Heimlich! Mel and Carol run to comfort Marce and he thanks Honey for saving his life.
Bruno shows up at Hunky Bar. Octavio can’t understand why Bruno wants to work there. He already has a job at Global. Bruno confides that no one would hire him for a regular job because he was in prison. He explains it was because of his FIL. If Octavio wants, he can confirm this with Mel. As soon as Global finds out, they will fire me. Bruno is also worried about Loli and his mom finding out. Octavio gives in and sends Bruno to the bartender to learn the cocktails on the menu. Apolo tells Octavio he didn’t know Mother Teresa of Calcutta was Argentinian. Octavio Teresa of Calcutta…. Protector of the poor and forsaken.
The office gossip about “Ricardito and Paloma” spreads and by the time it gets back to Paloma, she has slept with the entire audio department! The ladies tell her they know about the porno with Ricardito. Paloma’s boyfriend walks by and hears this. Ay, no! Pablo wait, poor Paloma begs.
Apolo explains the system to Bruno. Bruno thinks that after he learns about the business, Octavio will let him be an investor. Of course, Apolo doesn’t believe it.
Norita calls Bruno and reminds him the hearing is tomorrow and she wants him there. He tells her he can’t because he has opened a new business and needs to be here. He tells her it is a food processing business. Then he tells her he will talk to his partner so he can go to the hearing.
Rafa brings Loli a peace offering latte. He’s thought about what she said yesterday. He wants to kiss her. Loli says they can arrange that for tonight. Instead of kissing, there’s some hot talk about eating tacos with salsa (I cringe). Loli snaps out of it, tells Rafa about the class pics and he gives her money.
Mati barges in on Loli and Rafa and asks if they know what everyone in the office is talking about. Rafa guesses it’s one of Lupita’s rumors and he leaves the office. Rox rushes into Loli’s office. Did you hear about Paloma? She got caught having sex with the audio engineer in the recording booth two nights ago! Loli is shocked to hear about Paloma, but then she suddenly realizes….
And we are out.
dondi356
So glad your recapping talents were at work tonight dondi356. This was a fast moving, fast talking episode that I would have struggled with for sure without your clear accurate account.
Marcelino is the absolute worst person ever. How dare he bring in head-lice girl (sorry dondi356, but Honey is too nice a name for this liar, the nickname Marcelino calls her seems more appropriate) to stay with Mel and Carol. Mel is going to need more that a mango facial to help her get through this total betrayal by her own father. I hope she finds out soon. I am still counting on the wife, Mel’s mom to help pull back the curtains of lies. WTH with Norita? She should have shared her savings with her son who is clearly homeless and mooching off Loli and her.
Rox and David in bed, where else would they be? So true dondi356!
I am concerned that poor Jessica is really in for some heartbreak. Clearly Pete has only one thing in mind and because he smoothed her over with lies, now it looks like he will get what he wants. Pau is so manipulative. She and Rafa need to come clean with Jessica about their ending relationships and the new relationships both are now in. Especially with Angie working with security to get actual footage of the sexcapades. This would never happen at a professional company. Only specific senior level people (like Rafa and Loli) would have access to security footage not minions like Angie. Guess the security guard was swayed by her engaging personality and beauty. 😒 Of course the office gossips take the story to the new level and Angie identifying the watch she gave Rafa is going to be a problem.
Now we know more about Octavio’s background and “Apolo tells Octavio he didn’t know Mother Teresa of Calcutta was Argentinian. Octavio Teresa of Calcutta…. Protector of the poor and forsaken.” Thank you for that translation dondi356, it was funny to hear Apolo say that. The gang concern is definitely going to continue to plague Octavio and I am very interested in the continued telling of his back story.
I don’t know what to say about all the Rafa/Loli discussions other than opposites attract? Or so they say…
Where is Romeo? I need more dancing and less talking and shooting at Hunky Bar!
Thanks again dondi356, there was a lot happening in this episode and you covered every inch of it so well!
Thanks, VVS. Insightful comments as always.
“Head-lice girl”…lol. You’re right, “Honey”, is too good for her. But I wonder why she’s really with that filthy old goat. Maybe she’s scamming him? Yes, it will be interesting when Mel’s mom enters the picture. What is Bruno going to do when he finds out Nora gave Marce money?
I didn’t care for the way Rafa brushed off the office gossip. Global has an awful culture and work environment. Rogelio needs to take back control of the company.
Halimacandy, I saw you sneaking in…. “sperm donor Octavio looks like a sunburnt alcoholic coke head”…lol. But he seems to have a heart of gold. I find Octavio a way more interesting character than Rafa.
“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” I wouldn’t mind seeing him again.

Hey, guess what, dondi356: I loved your recap! I know, that comes as a big surprise, right? :-)
Needless to say, with each episode, I have more reason to detest Marcelino and his "sidepiece" (I loved your calling her that). But, as is the case with so much in this novela, I'm already thinking ¡ya basta!. Not just about this thread, but also about Loli's constantly talking to Mariana, the issue(s) with Rox and David, etc. What's amusing at first quickly becomes same old, same old.
Among the few threads that I'm still curious about are those having to do with Octavio. He's really such a softie. I loved Apolo's remark about not knowing Mother Teresa was Argentinian. And I wonder (and am somewhat apprehensive about) the gang violence threat.
One very compelling piece of evidence about Octavio's softheartedness (some might call it insanity) is his giving in to Bruno's pleas for a job. Come on! Bruno?? At least I think Apolo has his head still screwed on. BTW, I didn't get the impression that Bruno really believed what he said about not needing a job and representing some investors. He just was ashamed to admit to Apolo that he desperately needed a job. And, of course, Apolo also overhears Bruno's lying to his mother.
Actually, though you said "thank goodness [Pete] backs off and leaves," I was hoping he would persist and that Jess would scream, bringing Sam and Gus to see what was happening. Pete's not backing off might make Jess realize what kind of slimeball he really is, and I suspect that Sam, definitely, and Gus, perhaps, would pull Pete away before he was able to accomplish what he was after. Alas, as it is, Jess is just excited by Pete's fervor, and she may either give in to him when they're alone or struggle unsuccessfully against him. Either way, things may not turn out well.
I'm glad that Mati found out the way he did that Arturo is still in love with him.
And I loved the way you ended your recap: " Loli is shocked to hear about Paloma, but then she suddenly realizes…." Perfect!
Thanks, Juanita. Your comments are always interesting to read.
ITA on Marcelino/Bruno/Mel, Rox/David, Loli speaking with Mari. I wish writers would remember a little goes a long way.
Great take on the Pete/Jess scene. I wasn’t looking at it that deeply. Juanita, your scenario could happen down the road. I think it’s still too early to bust him. Predator Pete sure knows how to groom his victim.
BTW, I liked the way Mati handled the “other man”. I’ve got to say that the Mati and Art storyline is one of the few that seems honest.

Another stellar recap, dondi. Your asides were SO good. Yes, this novela is very frustrating. They just keep on dragging out the scenes with characters I long to FF>>>.
If I never see Rox and David in bed having the same conversations, it will be too soon.
At least they are hinting the audience before the judge is coming up soon.
And, Angie... really what in blue blazes is wrong with that woman? Her slobbering all over Pau would drive anyone except Pau, the narcissist, completely crazy. And I hate the Angie hears the lovemaking and goes on a crusade storyline SO much. These writers seem to think cruelty is funny.
Well they jumped the shark with Marcelino moving his sidepiece (thanks, dondi) into his daughter's house. Not to mention Nora's buying the bank taking the avocado money hook, line, and sinker and even giving the jerk more money.
The novela began as a single, professional woman getting custody of some children. And then she falls for the guy she should hate because he took the job she wanted. There's plenty to work with there without the Rox/David, Marcelino/Melissa sideshow causing my FF>>> finger to itch.
Carol's back! Not that she's important but she was gone so long, I was worried. She doesn't come from the best gene pool. Bruno really needs to start talking to his mother about what's really going on. He's going to feel terrible- as he should- when he finds out Marc is also scamming her as well as everyone else. But Octavio doesn't deserve this guy working with him. Maybe when the gang members come back and the inevitable shoot-out happens, Bruno can be redeemed by getting himself shot instead of Octavio or Gabe.
Kelly
Happy March 1st everyone! I am so ready for Spring!
Kelly, you comment about Bruno redeeming himself by taking a bullet for Octavio or Gabe made me laugh over my coffee! Like several have commented, the Bruno family nightmare is getting old. I also think that Carol might be redeemable under the proper influence.
I will attempt my first recap for the tonight's episode. Manage your expectations. :)
