Loli #58 part 1

Loli assures Lupillo they are not lying to him. Sam is real and she’s sick. Ok, Lupillo says, let’s have a drink and have dinner. Loli and Rafa try to talk him into seeing Sam now. Sal shows up with flowers. He’s surprised to see Lupillo. Lupillo tells Sal these two are trying to saddle him with a kid. Sal is surprised again, Lupillo is Sam’s dad? Lupillo tells Loli he hopes she will accept his invitation and leaves.

Loli explains that Lupillo thinks she made this whole thing up just so she would go out with him. Rafa says Lupillo was out of line. And you just stood there, Sal says. Loli doesn’t want to start an argument at the hospital. She tells Sal to bring the flowers to Sam. The flowers are not for Sam, they are for Loli. Sal leaves to get a coffee and Rafa thinks that Loli should have dinner and drinks with Lupillo. Meet him and convince him to meet Sam. Ok, for Sam. She’ll do it for Sam.

Octavio is still speaking to his mom. I don’t need to hear your sob story, he says. How much money do you need? We hear her say they don’t need money. Your father and I just want to talk. We found your bar online. That’s why we sent postcards. We didn’t want to call, she says.

Why now, he asks, after 30 years? Ramona says, you’re right to be angry but let me explain. Octavio is angry, he shouts, I don’t want your explanation. I called you to ask you to stop trying to contact me!

Octavio’s father gets on the line. Things didn’t happen the way you think, he says. We were deported. Your mom suffered a lot, we both did. There was nothing we could do from Argentina. We had no papers, nothing. Octavio interrupts, I don’t want to talk to you. His dad continues, we moved to Rosarita…. Octavio yells, stop dad! I don’t want to know! I don’t want to disrespect you, so just stop looking for me. He hangs up and starts sobbing.

Apolo comes in. I talked to them, Octavio tells him, are you happy? What did they say, Apolo asks? Why are they looking for you after all this time? I don’t know and don’t care, Octavio answers. My parents have been dead to me for a long time. He hugs Apolo and cries.

Art pours a glass of wine for Mati. Mati asks about his MIL. She’s out walking with Jack. Art senses something is wrong. Mati says, Arturo, we need to talk. Art says he knows what it is. Mati’s been acting weird for days. You know, Mati asks? Art thinks it’s about the vow renewal. Art tells him he has it all under control and Mati is going to love it. Art says, I really appreciate all you’ve done for mom and the fact you’re ok with adopting later. You’re the best husband, I love you so much. Art hugs him. Mati says nothing.

Bruno tells Mel about his big business deal while they eat chips and spicy dip. Did you get a commission, she asks. No, not yet. Mel suggests they invite Rogelio for dinner. We can have Mama Nora and Papa Rogelio. You make the pozole and I’ll make the cupcakes. Bruno wants to wait till the contract is signed but Mel doesn’t want to wait. She thinks it will hurry things up.

Loli is talking to Mari again. How many times has someone tries to saddle him with a kid? I know he’s Sam’s father. [did I miss something? He’s Sam’s father because he has a mole on his butt? Was there a DNA test?] We should just tell Sam we never found him. Send me a sign. Send a bird, move a picture frame, make the lights flicker. Nothing, so Loli says, she’ll make the decision.

Loli #58 part 2

Vic is talking to someone about sending something and dying to see the looks on their faces. He laughs and tells Pau everything is working out great. Are you going to tell me who your mysterious associate is, she asks? No, not yet. All he will say is this will benefit them both and she will be the star of his station. He can’t wait for her divorce to be final.

Pau thinks back to the ex-wife. “Vic might seem like the nicest and most attentive man, but at the end of the day, he only thinks of himself. If you get in his way, he won’t hesitate to get you out of the way.” Vic notices she’s distracted. Aren’t you happy? She is happy for him and his efforts. [her demeanor says something different] Vic says, after this, no one will stop us.

Cesar is looking for some space for his pants. She already moved her perfumes. What else can she do? She even watched the videos with the Japanese lady. Cesar says don’t worry, I’ll keep three pairs and donate the rest. Rox apologizes for being selfish. We’ll figure it out, she says. They laugh. Our first day and we are fighting over space. Living with someone else takes time to get used to, Cesar says. Rox isn’t used to sharing her space. I think you could get used to me cooking dinner every night, he says.

Octavio walks through Hunky Bar. Divina notices something is up with him. He looks like a waiter at a funeral, he tells Apolo. Apolo says he’s fine. Divina’s not buying it. Divina will get Octavio to talk. Octavio tells Apolo to get to work.

Loli meets with Lupillo for dinner. Rafa is spying nearby from the bar.

Jess is speaking with Pau and Angie about a fund raiser. It shouldn’t be just for the rich, she says. Kids should come so they can learn about organ donations, too. Pau thinks it’s a good idea. Jess can invite her friends. Pau thinks Rafa could help them. He knows important people, bands, sponsors. etc. Great, Jess is going to tell Sam.

Angie says Pau is earning her place in heaven doing this for Loli’s goddaughter. Well, she is Jess’s friend, Pau says, and it will help keep Rafa close. I should have known, Angie says. Pau tells her things are good with Vicente, but you never know. Pau doesn’t want to end up like his exes.

Loli tells Lupillo she’s glad he’s willing to talk about Sam. No, he wants to talk about Loli, he wants to get to know her. Sam is all that matters to her right now. Lupillo gives in, ok, let’s talk about the kid. She’s 16. She’s got her whole life ahead of her. Loli spots Rafa at the bar and excuses herself to the ladies’ room. She stops at the bar, what are you doing here? He’s there for support. This is for Sam, trust me, she says. Oh, I trust you, he says. [guess he doesn’t trust Lupillo.]

Lupillo asks if Loli has boyfriend or anything. He wants to get to know her but Loli steers the convo away from her and talks about Mariana 17 years ago. One unbelievable night, she fell in love with you. He laughs. And from that union came Sam. Rafa’s watching from the bar.

Loli tells Lupillo that Mari had heart problems and passed away. She left her two kids to me, she says. Two, Lupillo asks? The other one isn’t mine. No, you’re not the father. Loli wants to introduce him to Sam. She makes the case. Lupillo agrees, but it has to be tomorrow because he’s on tour. One last thing, Loli wants to make sure that nothing will happen between her and Lupillo. Maybe not today he says, but who knows about tomorrow? if he met her 17 years ago, he says, she’d be your daughter. Loli gathers Rafa from the bar and they make a quick exit.

Loli #58 part 3

Lupe brings Rafa his mail. Aren’t you going to open it, she asks? Yeah, she already opened it, but she wants to see Rafa’s reaction. It’s an invite to the launch of Vicente’s radio station. I guess you didn’t know he was doing this, she says, it’s weird that he invited you . You were close, she says, then he stole your wife, so I think he’s shameless…. [she’s the one who’s shameless! She really gets under my skin!] Rafa gives her a look, she gets the hint and leaves. [wish it was for good]

Pau calls Rafa. The invitations are beautiful, he tells her, you and your fiancé kept it under wraps. You know how this works, she says, you’re the competition. That’s not why I’m calling you, she says. I was thinking of ways to help Sam. A fund raiser. Can you help with some of your contacts? Think we could talk? He’s willing to do it for Sam. I don’t feel like going to Global, she says. He will stop by later.

Loli is at the hospital with Sam. Nora is there, too. She has news. She tells Sam to breathe. I have to tell you… I found your father. What? Lupillo walks in. Nora exclaims, Lupillo Rivera is your father! He tells Sam, you have my mother’s eyes. [I guess that’s more proof she’s his daughter] She can't believe it--Dad?

You’ve never heard my music, Lupillo asks Sam. No, sorry, but I promise I’ll listen to the whole catalog, says Sam. Nora can’t believe it. Why didn’t Mari tell us. The doctora comes in with more good news, Sam can go home today. There’s paperwork to fill out and Loli will go. Lupillo asks to go with her. Not necessary, Loli says. Aren’t I her dad, Lupillo replies.

Bruno shows up at Global and interrupts Rogelio on a phone call. Bruno wants to talk business, maybe he can finally hire him. Rogelio has been very busy with the festival planning. He does have time to asks about Nora. Bruno tells him they are having her over for dinner and he invites Rogelio. Rogelio closes his phone call. He accepts the invite; he can see Nora and get to know Bruno better and Bruno adds, we can talk business, too. [something Don R may regret later.] Great.

Lupe interrupts Rogelio and Bruno. She’s been looking for the boss. She has some mail she thinks he should open. It’s the infamous invite to Vic’s launch. Lupe’s not nosey, but she asks did you know he was going to compete with you? Rogelio doesn’t answer Lupe, he says see you later to Bruno and walks away with the chismosa tagging along after him.

Bruno calls his mom and tells her Rogelio is coming for dinner and he wants you to come. Was there an inappropriate joke about dressing up, putting perfume everywhere, something about “down there” and “cobwebs”? [I was watching the English caps. I don’t think I care to know….but if you want to discuss, that’s fine.]

Jess and Joaquin visit Sam. Everyone in class sends their regards, Jess says. Who thought needing a heart transplant would make me popular? She doesn’t want to talk about it anymore. How’s Gabriel, she asks? Jess says, he’s counting the days until he can visit you. Sam is happy, she’s got Gabe, her friends, she met her dad…it feels like a dream. [is it all a dream?]

Nora and Domingo sit with Lupillo. So, you’re Sam’s dad, says Dom. Where have you been, he asks, what are you going to do? Lupillo tells him he just found out. He will sing a song for her and all his kids at his next show and let’s see what happens. Nora excuses herself to get ready for dinner at Bruno’s.

Loli #58 part 4

The doorbell rings, it’s Octavio with Nicky. Is this my daughter’s brother, Lupillo asks. You’re Sam’s dad, Nicky asks? Yep. How cool. Dom tells Nicky he’s a famous singer. Lupillo has commitments and is going to say goodbye to Sam before he leaves. Nicky tells Octavio all he has to do is meet Octavio’s parents and the family will be complete. Octavio tells Nicky not to get his hopes up and tells him to start his homework. [I wish he was really Nicky’s dad, they are so good together.]

Mel is making cupcakes. Bruno sneaks in and tells her to get out the best dishes, guess who coming to dinner? Don Rogelio. She’s excited. She tells him he has to make the pozole, she has a hair appointment, and she needs a new dress....

Octavio is helping Nicky with his homework. Nicky leaves the table to get something, and Domingo takes this opportunity to speak with Octavio. He doesn’t mean to be nosy, but he heard Octavio say something about his parents. Problems? Octavio opens up, they left me here, they were deported when I was a kid. They left me with an uncle who was a mess. Dom thinks his parents must have suffered. Octavio doesn’t know but he says, I had a very rough time. They promised to come back, but they never did. Why call now? He wants nothing to do with them.

Dom says he understands Octavio has reasons to feel this way, but they have their reasons too. Dom tells him he left Loli when she needed him most, but now he’s back. He’s not sure if it’s good or bad, but as least he got to explain himself. Maybe Octavio’s parents want to explain and say they are sorry. Dom is making his case for Octavio hearing them out. Octavio is listening quietly; you can see his anguish, he’s still a hurt little boy inside. Dom gives his phone to Octavio and tells to call his parents. What do you say?

Rox gives Loli the invitation to Vic’s launch. She can’t believe Vic’s shamelessness. [doesn’t she know this guy by now?] Mati says she should go to scout the competition. Rafa comes in and asks how it went (with Lupillo and Sam). It was great, Loli tells him. Loli tells Mati and Rox about Lupillo. Rox says that’s why you had me interview Los Galanes! She would have made them talk! Loli wanted them to talk, not run away.

Loli sincerely thanks Rafa for all his help, then quickly shifts the convo to Vic’s launch. Rafa leaves. Rox and Mati sensed there was a moment between Loli and Rafa. Rox makes comments. Loli says there’s nothing there, we are colleagues. Right, says Rox, he’s a colleague and you are dating the Renegade. Loli is speechless.

Octavio knows Dom means well, but he’s not calling. Ok, Dom says as he puts away his phone, you can always change your mind and make peace. Dom reminds him about his other pending business, Nicky. Octavio knows he has to do something soon.

Loli calls Octavio and thanks him for picking up Nicky. I know you don’t mind, she says. She was thinking they should see a therapist to prepare them to talk with Nicky. She will find one and let him know.

Sal comes in to Loli’s office and asks how’s everything. Fine, Sam met her dad and she’s home. Let’s celebrate, he says. She declines, she wants to stay with Sam. Sal says Sam is with her grandparents and her brother. You’re stressed he says as he massages her shoulders. We have unfinished business [gettin’ busy business?] he tells her.

Rogelio is at Bruno’s. There’s some sort of delay with the pozole. Nora brings sandwiches to the table! Mel makes comments about Rogelio and Nora being a couple. Nora is ticked. Mel is hung up on getting Rogelio and Nora together. Mel and Bruno continue to make fools of themselves. Rogelio probably thinks what the hell am I doing here, but he’s there for Nora of course. Dinner with Mel and Bruno is enough to make one lose their appetite…

Loli #58 part 5

Rafa is meeting with Pau. She wants to raise awareness for organ donation and she wants his help with a VIP list. Rafa likes the idea but says Vic knows people, too. Yeah, says Pau, but he’s busy with his new station. Plus, Pau wants this to be like old times between them. Rafa tells her this isn’t what this is. We are only doing this for Sam. Ok, for Sam, she says.

Loli shows at Sal’s with Nicky in tow.

Rogelio has survived dinner and gets some pozole to take home. Bruno gives his mother his blessing to go ahead with Rogelio. Nora says enough, I haven’t been interested in another man since you father died. Rogelio says he has the perfect job for Bruno. Would you like an office next to mine, he says? Mel and Bruno imagine they have hit the big time and jump around like idiots. [We’ll see what happens.]

Nicky is touching everything in Sal’s house until he breaks something. It’s Sal’s Journalist of the Year Award. Sal is very upset and Nicky cries. Relax, Loli tells Sal, it was an accident. Loli sends Nicky outside to play. Why didn’t you leave him with Nora or Domingo, Sal asks? Nora was busy and Domingo is with Sam… don’t be so dramatic, she says. She came because Sam said she should come and relax, and now she’s anxious. He’s still upset about the award. Loli says she will get a replacement.

They argue and Loli says she’s leaving. Sal stops her. He asks why couldn’t Octavio watch Nicky? Loli says because Nicky is not Octavio’s responsibility. Loli goes to leave, and Sal stops her again. He asks, when will you tell him the truth? You went through the same thing with Domingo. You found Sam’s dad, you can’t keep lying to Nicky. When will you tell him Octavio is not his father?

They turn to see Nicky crying in the doorway. Nicky heard. He tearfully asks, is it true, Loli? Octavio is not my father?

And on that sad note, we are out.

Thanks VERY much, dondi356, for this wonderful recap! You captured absolutely everything, and added some especially effective asides. I especially liked "[did I miss something? He’s Sam’s father because he has a mole on his butt? Was there a DNA test?]." I wondered much the same thing. I'm not sure the issue of Sam's father is settled.

As for Lupe, count me as another one who can't stand her.

And then there's Melissa, who drives me at least as crazy as Lupe does. I find Melissa more interesting, however, because she's annoying in so many ways, while with Lupe it's pretty much the same thing over and over again. Yawn.

I keep trying to imagine what kind of "office" is right next to Rogelio's. A storage closet? The bathroom?

I was delighted when Loli showed up at Salvador's with Nicky. Sal clearly envisioned a different sort of event. He was not pleased, even before Nicky dropped his award on the floor.

Well, it must have been awful for Nicky to find out about Octavio by overhearing what Sal said, but at least that's the end of the increasingly tiresome "when/how can we tell him" thread. I, of course, am hoping that it will turn out that either Octavio really is Nicky's bio dad or Nicky will come to see that Octavio really is his father regardless of who provided the sperm.

Octavio, to prove he IS Nicky’s dad, Domingo and Rogelio to prove who IS Loli’s dad, Lupillo to prove a mole on the ass does not a dad make and Salvador to prove he is part of the human race after being such a jerk and making Nicky cry!

Sam is happy, she’s got Gabe, her friends, she met her dad…it feels like a dream. [is it all a dream?] WOW, dondi356, what if Sam is really dreaming all of the Lupillo dad stuff? This whole show could be a dream for Loli!

I had to cry when Octavio finished talking to his parents and was just sobbing in Apolo’s arms! Poor guy, he has done so much for so many and now his parents look him up? The conversation with Domingo was sad too.

I wonder who is Vicente’s partner? Someone we already know?

Lupe…ugh we are all done with her. I think Bruno’s office will be the janitors closet Juanita.

I was initially impressed that Paulina was trying to help Sam, but when she said she just wanted to keep Rafa close, I lost what little respected she had gained back with me.

I hope Loli never speaks to Salvador again after his treatment of Nicky.

My heart breaks for Octavio and Nicky.

VVS, “what if Sam is really dreaming all of the Lupillo dad stuff? This whole show could be a dream for Loli!” Don’t know, but when Sam said this is a dream, I flashed on that possibility. The way this is headed, I’m almost hoping it’s all one big bad dream. Did Loli ever have an accident that knocked her out? Can't remember.

Finally getting around to your superb recap, dondi365. I was on a three-day fast from screens. Friday was a daytime family birthday party. The birthday boy is married to my granddaughter. The two of them have a LOT of very diverse friends with great senses of humor and good social consciences. They all know me from the wedding, so it's great fun hanging out with twenty somethings. And Saturday and most of today I was just reading.

I loved the comment, dondi, about the mole on the butt making him the dad. The nutty things these writers come up with never cease to amaze. At first I thought it was going to be a big mistake, but so far the writers are playing it straight. And Sam was very happy.

Why oh why did they have to introduce the Renegade? I have a feeling that whole left-almost-at-the-altar storyline was just plugged in there because the writers ran out of ideas. The guy is, at least to me, completely unattractive. I think I've groused about stubble before. Rafa certainly has it. But he looks like he at least takes a shower regularly. I doubt Loli is going to just completely ignore him from now on after the way he behaved with Nicky, but she ought to. The look on his face when he saw Nicky beside Loli at the door! And he's not even that smart. He should have kept his questioning about why she brought the kid to himself if he wanted to win her over.

That dinner at Casa Bruno was cringe-worthy. I just discovered that cringe is the new buzz word and that there are emojis for it. They could have put a huge cringe emoji in front of that whole dining table. I think it was the episode before where Melissa was feeding her face and bragging to her mother about being the new step-in-law of a rich man. Gah!

As far as the whole DNA-dad stuff is concerned, Domingo said something along the lines of "so what?" A father is the person who spends time with the child and/or young adult. Octavio and Nicky truly love each other, and I wish they'd not make such a big deal about whose swimmers got there.
