La Suerte de Loli #71 - Un Dolor Oculto – Parte 1 de 3

Rafa tells Leo that, if he hasn’t yet told Loli, he had to find the right moment to do so. Leo: “Stop justifying things! Could it be that because that day you were not the Rafa everyone loves? Tell the whole world what happened with our parents.”

Loli, who has been outside the door comes in, apologizing for having overheard and saying he doesn’t need to tell her personal things. He tells her his parents died in an accident de transito (?) Sam and Jess come in and we still aren’t getting the truth about what happened.

Octavio talks inside his apartment with Victoria. He tells her he has nothing against her or her child. But, considering the number of times he donated, if they all showed up, he’d have to open an elementary school. Victoria tells him she didn’t come to ask him for anything. In her mind the man who raised him was his father. She says what he did was noble. She only wants to thank him now that he’s no longer with us (her husband).

Dulce and Rox are arguing at the restaurant. Dulce says she doesn’t want anything from Cesar. Rox: “What about the restaurant you took? I’m tired of your lies, your caprichos (whims) your berrinches (tantrums). Let Cesar choose what to do about the child. Cesar comes out, stunned to see Rox there. Rox tells him he doesn’t need to say a word; she knows everything. Rox forces Dulce to tell Cesar she’s pregnant and that Cesar is the father.

Bruno is at “work”. He isn’t even using his talent for sharpening pencils, which is all he did yesterday. He’s on the phone with Altemio. Bruno refuses to bring him the car, telling him the address where he left it. Altemio: “The car isn’t important; it’s what’s in la cajuela (the trunk)".

Pau and Angie arrive at Pau’s house. Angie: "Ahora podemos hablar a las anchas sin preocuparnos con Lupe y sus chismosas." (Talk freely without the gossips overhearing.) Angie tells her: ”Saliste con la suya” (Got your way.) Angie tells her she and Vicente fought against Global Radio, got their own station to compete, and now they’re back where they started. Pau admits that she’s happy to have Rafa near, but “all that” was Vicente. She knew about the plan to put both stations together to create Super Radio, but she had nothing to do with forcing Rogelio out. She goes on to say that she knows Rafa and Loli are together…but nothing lasts forever. [said with an evil grin]

Leo and Rafa have returned to Rafa’s apartment. Rafa wants to know why he brought all that up again. Leo: “¡No hice adrede!” (I didn’t do it on purpose.) They argue some more. Leo tells him he needs to get over his save the world complex. After a bit more quarreling, Rafa tells him he wants them to get along like brothers. [This could happen; but Leo suffers from envy of his intelligent, good looking brother.]

Domingo, Octavio, and Roberto/Divina discuss Victoria’s visit. Roberto thinks it’s suspicious. But Domingo thinks he needs to meet the child. Roberto: Miraste a ella en una manera differente y porque estás más solo que La Llorona en el día de las madres… [You were looking at her in a certain way and because you’re more alone than La Llorona on Mothers Day…} [You probably know about La Llorona; but just in case, she’s a Mexican legend of a woman who drowned her children but now looks for them at night, crying.]

La Suerte de Loli #71 - Un Dolor Oculto – Parte 2 de 3

Octavio is fed up with the conversation and says he’s going to see if the doctor will take that bandage off his nose. [I’ve been wondering how long they’d keep that on.]

Loli is in her bedroom and cues up another Mariana video. This is brought about because she was telling Mariana about her concerns because Rafa didn’t tell her what happened to his parents. Mariana: "Ensartar agujas es lo más difícil de cosas de mamá" [The hardest part of being a mother is threading needles. I think there’s a metaphor here!] “If you want a good life, learn to thread needles. Forget about patinando sobre hielo (ice skating), learn to thread needles. You need to learn that you never stop learning to know people. Learn to trust others and that everyone has secrets.” Loli, tears in her eyes, thanks Mariana for the perfect advice.

Bruno comes home. Carol ignores him. Melissa and Gema come home with a bunch of “stuff”. Mellisa bought things to get Gema started in the massage business she’s going to run out of their house. When Bruno objects, Melissa: "¡Mira el burro hablando de orejas!" [I mostly put this scene in to include one of my favorite dichos: the donkey talking about ears; or, as we would say, the pot calling the kettle black. Melissa refers to Bruno's casino.]

Rox and Cesar are at home. He says it couldn’t be his baby. Rox tells him she’s certain it wasn’t the holy spirit. “Think!” Well…once when he was drunk. Rox: “Now we know how.” He tells her he was only trying to save the restaurant. Rox tells him she’s had weeks of listening to lies, no matter why he told them. She needs time to process this.

We see a white car raising down a road, not a freeway. In the backseat a man says: “Speed up; your mother is bleeding!” They’re on the way to the hospital. The car goes faster and faster. A car coming in the opposite direction swerves into the road ahead and there’s a huge crash. We see the couple from the back seat, obviously dead. Rafa wakes up in his bedroom, shouting.

Loli is bringing Sam to school and Pau has brought Jess. The girls embrace and go into school. Pau asks Loli to come by to go over some details about the event (Sam’s, I presume). Pau uses this accidental meeting to pour some poison in Loli’s ear. She says that Leo has had problems moving forward in his life because of what happened. Loli tries to pretend she knows what it is. Pau: “Good! You know. This will help with the guilt.” Loli: “Guilt?” Pau: “Ah, you don’t know.”

Mati is not doing well. He has been missing work taking care of Selma so Art can work. He tells Art that he sent some information Rox needed in an email to his cousin instead. He then remembers that he forgot to tell Rox that she has an interview with Gerardo Ortiz (a well known Mexican singer).

Loli has come to GR about the event/transplant benefit and is assaulted by Rox right away. She hasn’t had time to prepare for the interview. Loli helps a bit and tells her she’ll be fine. Leo has come to get Loli to work on the event, but Rafa says he needs to talk with her.

La Suerte de Loli #71 - Un Dolor Oculto – Parte 3 de 3

After Loli babbles on in her usual style, Rafa says that: "Yes, he feels guilty. The accident could have been avoided. He was driving, so it was his fault. And no he was not a minor at the time. This is why he and Leo argued in her house. He says that his brother arrived and opened up the wound." She comforts him and kisses his face over and over.

Octavio confronts Agustín near the school and tells him he knows he arranged what happened at the bar. Agustín snarks a bit and Octavio twists his arm behind him. Roberto/Divina comes up to stop him. After Agustín leaves, Roberto points out Victoria and her child.

We get a product placement for Rocket Mortgage as Lupe says she got her mortgage.

Bruno gets a call from one Zancudo. He wants the car. Bruno says this is Altemio’s problem. Z replies that Altemio doesn’t have problems any more and, if Bruno doesn’t want to end up the same way… He says he knows where Bruno works and where he lives.

Sam is nervous about speaking at the benefit and Leo embraces her. Gabriel has come up behind them and doesn’t look happy. Leo and Sam decide they’ll pretend that the crowd of people are monkeys doing the reggaeton.

Octavio and Victoria talk. She tells him her husband used to bring Andy here to practice soccer. The charming little boy walks up, smiles, extends his hand, and introduces himself as Andrés. After he goes back to practicing, Octavio asks Victoria for her phone number. Maybe the three of them could get an ice cream sometime. [I think we’ve found the person Octavio ends up with.]

This looks like the benefit is finally happening. Most of the cast are there. We get a PSA from Sam when she gives Gabriel a piece of her mind about being jealous of Leo.

Rogelio is talking with Nora when Vicente slithers up. Norita tells him she isn’t glad to see HIM, when he says he’s glad to see them. He makes a remark about Sam being a millionaire and walks off.

Sam is side by side with Paulina, talking with reporters.

Bruno has gone back to where he left the car and, of course, it’s gone.

Nicky is at Octavio’s for dinner (probably because of the event; I don’t think Nicky knows about Sam’s heart condition). Roberto asks about Victoria, smiling. Octavio says they’ll have a coffee sometime. There is a knock at the door. It’s a process server giving Octavio a copy of a restraining order Agustín has taken out against him. [I join with the rest of you in hardly being able to wait until Joaquín learns how his father has been behaving.]

Selma tells Art that she liked the place Mati showed her on his laptop. She wants to visit there tomorrow. Mati asks Art if he’s sure; yesterday she didn’t want to go to a nursing home. But Art says that today is different; they should take advantage of it.

Loli has run out to the car with Leo. Some posters were left in a car. Rafa is looking for Loli, and Rox points to where she’s gone. Leo tells Loli he knows she’s with his brother, but he has a thing for her. He plants a kiss on her. We don’t see whether Rafa saw this or not.

Muchas gracias, novelera, for this superb recap. I'm especially grateful for all the very useful Spanish you included, much of which went right by me without my processing it when I was watching the episode. I have now made note of "a las anchas" and "no hice adrede," both of which seem especially useful. You put a question mark next to "de tránsito," but I'm not sure why. Un accidente de transito is simply a car accident or a traffic accident, as I suspect you already know. Or are you questioning whether it was an accident?

Arrgh...I'm running late for an appointment. I'd better stop now. I guess I'll post this, and perhaps add stuff later.

loli

Juanita, it's very simple. I didn't know accidente de transito meant car accident I was doing the old false cognate thing that has tripped me up many times in Spanish. I was thinking of transit as public transit, like a bus or subway.

loli

I recall hearing un accidente de transito some time in the past and, like you, I assumed it was a bus accident. For some reason, I looked it up on WordReference.com and found it meant a car accident or traffic accident. And that was one of the few things I've looked up that my memory has retained. Sigh.

You may be right about Victoria being the person Octavio will wind up with. I confess that my thinking was more in line with Roberto's. And the fact that she turned up in the same place as Octavio increased my suspicion. Still, her reason for being there made sense, and nothing about her really seemed to suggest something evil, so.... I guess I'm still finding it hard to give up on Octavio and Loli being together. And how will Nicky feel seeing his Papi be Andy's bio dad and actual legal dad? Oh well, I guess this is not one of the world's great problems.

I'm beginning to find Telemundo's more aggressive product placements a bit much. First we had Nicky and Sam doing an actual commercial for Royal Prestige, and now Lupe uses Rocket Mortgage in the actual novela. I think there was also a pitch for Toyota in the novela a few weeks ago, followed by the usual ad for the Toyota Sienna. I guess there's nothing really wrong with this practice, it just seems a little too crassly commercial to me.

I was amused by your saying "We don’t see whether Rafa saw this or not." Anyone want to take bets on whether he did? :-) It's a sure thing, like the pregnancy of a young woman who vomits and/or faints, or the revelation of secrets told at Global Radio.

loli

Juanita, when I saw Octavio meet Andrés, my mind immediately went to the happily ever after, in which Octavio is with Victoria and both his bio son and his much loved non-bio son are shown playing soccer together, while the rest of the cast looks on fondly. I believe Nicky will accept and like Andrés. And, of course, Octavio has a heart big enough for both kids and includes Sam in his affection.

loli

And... I'm pretty sure Raúl will be one of the smiling onlookers.

Loli

This a wonderful recap novelera! Like Juanita, I so appreciate all the extra Spanish translations and this was my favorite: Roberto: Miraste a ella en una manera differente y porque estás más solo que La Llorona en el día de las madres… [You were looking at her in a certain way and because you’re more alone than La Llorona on Mothers Day…} I sort of understood the reference last night but seeing it in writing really made me laugh.

Chente sure does have some avocados slithering up to say “hi” to Don R at the gala! Norita is always good for a (well-deserved in this case) slap down.

I am not sure what the Victoria storyline is all about and I hope she is legit for Octavio’s sake. Picking a fight with Augustine and putting a half nelson on him wasn’t the smartest move for Octavio. Glad his bandages were finally removed; I need some eye candy to stare at since Hunky Bar is closed. 😊

The Rafa nightmare/relive of his parents’ death was interesting. Did it appear to you that the driver, presumably Rafa, looked rather smallish behind that steering wheel? Was Rafa a kid when this happened? But later Rafa said that Leo wasn’t a minor when it happened so I am not sure what I was seeing last night. Guess we have to wait for more to revel.

Loli needs to learn how to draw some real physical boundaries with those men constantly planting kisses on her!

loli

I'm in avoidance mode of what I should be doing for my job...on the cloud at home. So, lots of comments!

I don't remember actually seeing the driver during the accident, but we all know about how memories can be false. What Rafa said to Loli was that HE wasn't a minor when the accident happened and this was because Loli was looking for a way to help him not feel so guilty; i.e. a perhaps a 16 year old would not yet have good driving skills. Rafa put the kybosh on that idea.

The thing I was thinking and didn't write in the recap was this: Why all the self blaming? At that rate of speed, urged on by his father, WHO could have avoided that car that, inexplicably swerved right in front of the car Rafa was driving?

Loli

Finally caught up, and just in time for my recap tonight!

Thanks, novelera, for Wed’s and last night’s great recap and the Spanish tutorial—always appreciate it. My thanks to VVS and Juanita for their recaps as well.

We’ve got too much time left in this show. They keep throwing stuff at us, switching directions on characters. This show has enough red herrings to open a fish market. My head is spinning.

I really hope Dulce is not pregnant.

It looks like Victoria will be the one for Octavio. At this point I don’t care if this is so, as long as his heart isn’t broken. He deserves to have a happy ending with all the kids he can handle.

As far as I’m concerned, Loli and Rafa deserve each other. I don’t mean that in a nice way.

LOL, Lupe doing product placement? Yeah, the worst person to advertise your product, Rocket Mortgage!

Agree VVS, “Loli needs to learn how to draw some real physical boundaries with those men constantly planting kisses on her!”

Twenty-nine more eps to go? Give me strength!

dondi356

Loli

Thanks for the clarification novelera about Rafa not being the minor, the image of the driver was someone smaller, not adult size and it was only an arm and shoulder profile. It was a dream after all, but why wasn’t the Dad driving? Yes, we need more information about the self-blaming part.

Hi dondi356! Glad you are all caught up! You really haven’t missed that much. I hope Dulce isn’t pregnant either and that Octavio finds a nice lady to have a passel of kids with.

Yes, 29 more to go. It way too early for any speculations at this point.

Thanks !

Loli #72 part 1

Loli pushes Leo away. Sorry, he says, I thought you liked me, too. I’m dating your brother, she tells him. Yeah, but we get along, we work great together, Leo says. Do you kiss everyone you work with, Loli asks? [that’s funny coming from Loli, ‘cause she kisses almost every guy she meets.] Leo replies, if I like them, I do. She swats at him with papers.

Rafa walks up. He didn’t see the kiss. What’s wrong, he asks. Loli is startled and she says nothing is wrong. She just needed these things in this box. Rafa informs her that Gerardo Ortiz is about to sing. Perfect exit strategy—I can’t miss that, she exclaims, and she hightails it out of there. Rafa asks Leo if they were arguing. Leo denies it. That was a close one.

Cesar is with Rox at the event. What do you want me to do, he asks her? First you say I should look after the baby, and now you don’t want me to see Dulce. You’re driving me crazy. It’s not like that, Rox tells him. I understand you’re in a difficult situation, but it sucks for you to leave like that, Rox says, lying about your marriage sucks, too. I thought you did it to get papers, you said you weren’t involved and now you’re expecting a baby. [did they get a pregnancy test?] The restaurant, the baby, where do I fit in, Rox asks? Cesar tells her, you know I love you the most in the world. I don’t want to be with anyone else, and certainly not with Dulce. Rox has heard enough. She says go see Dulce and they can talk tonight. She leaves him.

Roberto says Octavio is the one who should file a restraining order on Augustin. Octavio feels like killing that guy, because he won’t stop trying to ruin his life. The doorbell rings. It’s Victoria and Andres. Roberto is not so pleasantly surprised, but Octavio has a big smile for her. She explains, we agreed to have a coffee and I thought we could do it at your place [seems presumptuous].

She introduces her son to Octavio [didn’t she do that already?] Andres says he wanted to go to the park, but his mom wanted to come here to see Octavio. Andres asks if Octavio has any ice cream [this kid is just as forward as his mother] Nicky comes to the door introduces himself. Are you friends with my father, Octavio he asks?

Rafa thanks Pau for all she has done for Sam. You did a great job, he tells her. Pau is very happy with the way it turned out. They raised lots of money and people learned the importance of being an organ donor. The kids come over. Sam gives Pau a big thank you and a big hug. Pau asks Rafa if he’s going out to celebrate. Rafa says they are doing something small at Loli’s. She’s waiting for him. Pau says she won’t keep him.

Go spend time with Loli and her family, she says, they’re your family now. It gets weird. You could get married and have a child, Pau tells him, you’re young, Loli not so much, but it can still happen. You’re lucky to have found love again, she says. Rafa answers he could say the same about Pau. Vicente shows up and Rafa quickly goes. Vic senses something and asks if Pau is ok. Didn’t you see me pull off an amazing event? I’m always fine, she replies.

Nicky asks Victoria if she and Octavio are novios. She almost chokes on her coffee. No, she’s just a friend. Andres says he doesn’t want his mom to have a boyfriend because his dad has recently died. Nicky mentions his mother died recently, too. Andres says his dad was the best dad. He was a pilot and he’d take him out in his jet. Nicky says his mom was the best. She worked at a bank and sang songs to him when he was sick. Octavio steps in here. He looks at Nicky and says, your mom was the best. He looks at Andres and says, your dad was the best. Roberto asks the kids if they would like to go play a game.

dondi356

Loli #72 part 2

Victoria thinks this is normal kid behavior. In any case, she says, Andy doesn’t see you as his father [why would he?] There’s nothing to worry about, Victoria says. [can we be sure?] Octavio says that Nicky’s situation is more complicated. That’s a story for another time. Octavio says he’s glad she came by. She admits she came because she wants to get to know him better. What do you like? What do you do for a living? He tells her he owns the bar. She makes a joke about going for a drink. He’ll take her for one.

Nicky comes back to the table and tells Octavio he wants to go home. Roberto says the kids argued. Nicky relates, Andres said I shouldn’t call you dad if you’re not my dad. Andres’ mother tells him he shouldn’t have said that. Octavio tells Nicky he will take him home and Victoria says they should go. See you again soon. Nicky doesn’t even want to say goodbye to Andres.

Rafa, Loli and Leo toast to the event’s success. And the same should happen at the festival. Leo volunteers himself to help at the festival. Loli utters a quick no at the same time Rafa gives a quick okay. Rafa wonders why Loli said no. Well, it’s a big event, lots of press, artists, sponsors. She feels they can’t risk it. Rafa tells Loli, Leo can help now that you’re not at Global. You can train him. uh, oh. Leo excuses himself from the convo.

Rafa tells Loli she’s been acting weird all afternoon. Loli says she has a lot on her mind. She’s meeting with LA news about Raul’s interview, the governor isn’t responding, and Raul will be executed in 3 days. Rafa says, calm down, trust me, we are working on it.
Doorbell rings. Octavio brings Nicky back. Loli notices something is wrong. Nicky tells her he met a kid he didn’t like. What kid? Dad’s girlfriend’s kid. She’s not my girlfriend, Octavio insists. Nicky says yes she is.

Loli is surprised. Octavio hasn’t mentioned a girlfriend. She’s just a friend, Octavio says. Loli’s not buying it. Octavio laughs and says Loli is jealous. She claims if it affects Nicky, it affects her too. Octavio says she showed up at my door and her son is my son. The sperm bank, he explains. He says he should have a show called “La Suerte de Octavio” [wink, wink]

Rafa makes a comment about the sperm bank that’s not so anonymous. Loli advises that Octavio should get a paternity test done. No, Octavio says, he’s got too much going on now. He leaves. Rafa and Leo leave, too. Nora tells Loli she will clean up. Nora talks to Mari, I miss you so much…

Pau and Jess arrive home. Jess says you won’t believe this. Everyone is posting pics and leaving comments on social media. This was the event of the year! Jess says Sam is going to love her and follow her and “like” her stuff. What an honor, Pau laughs. Pau knows Jess sees Sam as a sister, so she sees her as a daughter.

Jess thanks her mom and she was happy to see her getting along with her dad, too. Jess continues on about how openminded her mom is—she works with her boyfriend and her ex and she planned an event for her ex’s girlfriend’s daughter… we’re an amazing family, she tells her mom, and it’s all thanks to you. Well, we’re weird and dysfunctional but a family, nevertheless. Nobel Peace Prize worthy? I don’t think so. Anyway, Jess loves her mom [at least for today]

Pau makes a call. Is it to Angie? She tells her I’ll fill you in later about the event. I need you and I’m sure you can help me.

Loli is talking to Mari again. It’s about Nicky. She reassured him that he’s always going to be special to Octavio. Am I doing the right thing? She tells her about Leo kissing her. Flashback to a time when some guy flirted with both of them at a bar and Loli was ticked because the guy kissed Mari. They made up quickly. She asks Mari, should I tell Rafa?

dondi356

Loli #72 part 3

Loli tells Rox and Mati about what occurred with Leo. Mati is surprised that Leo is Rafa’s brother. The English caps had him calling Leo “Jesus de Iztapalapa”. I laughed at this. Is Mati thinking Leo could play Jesus in the Passion Play of Iztapalapa? Anyway, Rox launches into one of her pieces on how crappy all men are. Loli asks for their advice. Should she tell Rafa or not? Rox says no, nothing happened. And of course Rafa walk in to the discussion.

He’s brought shirts for the festival. Leo walks in and asks if he can help. Loli is cold to him. Okay, Leo’s gonna ask Pau if she needs anything and he leaves.

Lupe runs in. Let me just get to the point: Lupe says the woman you were expecting is here. It’s Raul’s wife. She tells them Raul is not the angel you think he is. Loli informs her they believe his trial was unfair and they believe he is innocent. Innocent? The wife claims Raul is a bastard. You don’t know what he’s done to me! I stayed by his side and visited every day. One day he asked me to stop coming. He said he didn’t love me anymore and asked for a divorce. He fell in love with a social worker.

Loli understands this must be painful but to compare it to Raul’s situation… Rafa says, he doesn’t deserve to die because of this. But I guess his wife believes in the death penalty for divorce. Oh well, looks like Raul is really screwed now. They needed the support of his wife for his case.

Roberto laughs at Gabriel, you were jealous of Rafa’s brother because he was helping Sam? Well, Gabe didn’t like to see them hugging. How old is Leo, Octavio asks? About thirty, Gabe answers. Roberto busts out laughing. He could be her father! Octavio tells Gabe that jealousy isn’t a good thing. Just because you are dating Sam, doesn’t mean all men are a threat. Gabe realizes he screwed up and he’s an idiot. No, Octavio says, you’re growing and learning. This is the first time you’re in love. Just apologize to Sam, that’s it.

Gabe jokes, you haven’t adopted me yet and you’re lecturing me like a dad. Roberto says Octavio even adopted him. Gabe calls Roberto his older brother. Gabe tells Octavio leave the dishes and he will wash them. Por fin, Octavio exclaims. Roberto knows that Octavio is worried about the adoption and the restraining order.

Rox is ticked with Cesar for coming home late last night. Yeah, he was worried about Dulce. She can’t talk, she has to start her show. She’ll see him later if he can get away from his wife and child.

Bruno is still struggling with his Zancudo problem. He gets another threatening call from Z about the car.

Pau’s been working hard and she’s impressed Vicente. He congratulates her on the event. She raised a lot of money. Pau was surprised and tells Vic that his father donated a large sum of money. Vic goes off on his father, who never misses a chance to be kind and show off. This sours his mood, and he leaves.

Angie comes in to speak with Pau. She’s brought what Pau asked. It’s a flash drive. Is this the only copy, Pau asks? Yes, but why do you want this? I thought we moved on from Rafa’s video, Angie says. Pau says that’s in the past, but this is valuable. I want to make sure no one else has it.

Romeo and Adan are with Roberto and tell him they need to work. They try to come up with a solution and Romeo has an idea. He knows who can help them.

Cut to Rox in the broadcast booth. Cesar brings flowers to her. He wants to talk. Alright, she’ll talk but she’s not happy. Seems Dulce is milking the situation and taking up Cesar’s time with her demands. Now Dulce’s not feeling well and Cesar is tending to her needs.

Romeo and Adan show up at the booth. Hola guapa, Romeo greets Rox. We were close by and wanted to see you. Actually, we want to ask a favor, Romeo says, getting down on his knee and kissing Rox’s hand. Cesar’s not happy.

dondi356

Loli #72 part 4

Bruno is still trying to track down Altimio. Gema calls Bruno. There are two gentlemen here asking for you. They are here on behalf of Zancudo and they don’t look very friendly. Uh, oh.

Rox isn’t sure she can help the guys. Last time you danced on the show there was trouble, she tells them. Romeo says they aren’t looking to dance this time. Cesar has an objection. Rox steps in and introduces Cesar as her boyfriend. Romeo’s eyes pop and his jaw drops, he gives Cesar a once over. Your boyfriend? Cesar demands to know how Rox knows this guy. Rox explains this guy has a name, Romeo, and she met these guys through Octavio, they are strippers… She takes Romeo outside the booth to talk.

Gabriel comes to see Sam. He wanted to talk before he goes back. He wants to apologize for what happened yesterday. Sam won’t lie, she didn’t like it. This is my first time dating, she says, but I don’t like to be controlled. Gabe can’t explain why he went crazy when he saw Leo hugging her. They make up and he starts kissing her neck. He backs off. He remembers what happened last time they had a make out session—she almost died. Well, I didn’t die, Sam tells him, and I won’t die now. Nora catches them making out. She screams and chases Gabriel out.

Rox tells Romeo he can’t just show up and she’s dating Cesar. Romeo asks what happened with David? Rox says she dumped him and Romeo for the same reason. You’re both idiots! Nice, Romeo says, you got a two for one, pointing to Cesar. Rox defends Cesar. You should be half the man, she says, he’s a good person, he’s different, he has a good heart. He’s attentive. Not everyone takes responsibility for a child they are expecting with their ex. Romeo’s eyes pop again. He’s having a child with his ex?

What about you, Romeo asks. Rox says she’s fine. Wow, you are admirable, he tells her, you are a special woman. He lays it on thick—I was a fool to lose you…. are you going to help us?

Loli is trying to reach the governor. This man is going to be executed in 48 hours, she says to someone on the phone. Rafa takes the phone and speaks as the president of Global Radio. Have the Gov call us back, we have paperwork of properties he bought during his campaign with money…and he’d have a hard time explaining where it came from. Rafa tells Loli and Octavio he will air this if the Gov doesn’t get back to them.

Adan comes to see Pau. She panics. What are you doing here? He didn’t know she was back at the station. I can’t stop thinking of you, he tells her. He comes closer and she backs away. Nothing happened and never will, she tries to fend him off. What about those kisses, he reminds her. Adan grabs her and pulls her close and that’s when Vicente walks in.

Remember Adonis, she asks Vicente, Angie’s boyfriend? Ah yes, Vic remembers. They shake. Pau makes up a story that Angie and Adonis had a fight and she’s just trying to help them get back together. Angie walks in and asks Adan, what are you doing here? Vic would like to know this, too. Pau explains to Angie how desperate poor Adan is to make it up to her. Angie and Adan play along. Angie apologizes to Vicente and drags Adan out of the office.

Nora runs Gabe out of the house. It was just a kiss, Sam claims, what’s wrong with that. Nora is angry. You need to respect yourself and this house, she tells Sam, and you can’t do that in your condition. So I can’t kiss my boyfriend until I have a transplant, Sam asks? Nora snaps back, if he loves you, he will wait. Sam’s turn to snap—what do you know about love, you bitter old hag. Nora gasps. Sam continues, that’s why you don’t have friends and you won’t date Rogelio. Get a life and go back to Mexico! I don’t want you here anymore! Nora is hurt. Ok I’m leaving, Nora tells her. Sam is immediately sorry.

Loli #72 part 5

Selma is all dressed up to go with Art and Mati to the retirement home. She goes back to her room to change her bag. Art is worried she will change her mind and he feels like monster. Mati says we are just showing her the place. If she doesn’t like it, we can bring her back.

Bruno has raced home and yells for Mel. No one answers, he’s worried. All because of Altimio and the damn car! He hears noises coming from the garage. Sounds like someone’s being tortured. He finds Gema is giving massages to the Zacudo’s thugs. Melissa comes running in, is everything okay? Mel says she’s made cupcakes to bring to Nora and she’s going to try to get her to go after Rogelio.

Bruno is left with the thugs. How was the massage, he asks them, do you feel more relaxed? You have 24 hours to find the contents of the trunk, a thug says. We will be back for another massage… and some cupcakes. Estamos?

Mel shows up with cupcakes and Nora tells her she’s not feeling well. She had a terrible argument with Sam. She’s just not in the mood for a visit with Mel [I certainly can’t blame her]. Nora unwittingly spills the beans about Bruno’s job. He’s only an assistant, Mel asks, he’s not a sales manager? Mel has to sit and Nora fans her.

Bruno goes to the spot where he left the car and asks all the homeless people in the area if they have seen it. No luck. Does anyone here know Zancudo, Bruno yells out. One guy gets up and says, yes, we know him, and I know you, Bruno. It’s Felipe the guy who was the homeless “guest” in their house. He attacks Bruno.

Loli and Pau meet at the break room. Pau asks what’s up with Nicky’s dad. Loli fills her in—it’s not looking good. Pau says Loli can count on her. She tells Loli, you know how I hate injustice [even if she causes it?] Pau says it would be good for Nicky to have his dad in case something happened to Loli.

Pau leaves and Leo shows up. You still don’t want my help, he asks Loli. She reminds him it was wrong for him to kiss her. They didn’t notice Rafa had walked in. He shouts-What?!

And we are out.

Thanks VERY much, dondi356, for this excellent recap! As always, I loved your parenthetical and non-parenthetical remarks. My favorites were "But I guess his wife believes in the death penalty for divorce" and, re Nora's saying that she's not in the mood for a visit from Melissa, "[I certainly can’t blame her]." Nor can I, of course. Who in their right mind could be?

I was also very pleased when Nora spilled the beans about Bruno's position at Global Radio. It will be interesting to see how, if at all, this changes Mel's spendthrift behavior. I wonder whether it will also affect her love for Bruno. And could the news provoke a major shock to her system?

Well, I guess I shouldn't have declared that "of course" Rafa will see Leo kiss Loli. But the rest of my statement proved true--secrets told at Global Radio inevitably get revealed (Rafa overhears that Leo kissed Loli).

And though I'm slightly chastened by being wrong about Rafa's seeing the kiss, I can't help but make another prediction. As soon as I heard Raul's wife report that Raul had fallen in love with a social worker, I shouted, "Bertha!!!" We've already seen that she handles ALL cases in the novela, so....

Terrific recap, dondi! Your asides were solid gold. Like Juanita I loved the one about the death penalty for divorce. I was a bit surprised that the writers began to put obstacles in the path of Loli and Rafa's perfect plan for Raúl. For some reason I was thinking a new trial had already been agreed upon. I can't tell if the writers have so many glitches in the plot or if I should get my "head examined" for senility.

So..if Pau and Vicente do end up together, I can see her future. Several times now she's wanted to focus on Nova or the music festival, and Chente wants to take a little vacation. Besides being a snake, he isn't much good at running companies. Pretty sure he hired Rafa from the East Coast so that he could...coast. And, once she's working like a dog running the combined companies, he'll have plenty of time to cheat on her as he did with his first two wives.

Another odd thing. Was Bruno looking for Altemio? Zancudo appeared to tell him over the phone that Altemio had been killed. And...running into Felipe, priceless!

A couple of times they've portrayed Sam being almost bi-polar. The other time was turning on Loli because she thought Loli was kissing Lupillo, her bio dad. And where have the attention deficit writers gone with that big breakthrough? And now she says horrible things to her grandmother. Although, in her defense, what Nora did was awful. She didn't knock, which every mother and/or grandmother of an adolescent knows is really important.

Dulce has to be either on the dark side already or on her way. I can tell by the blue eyeshadow.

Well, my rosy prediction for Octavio/Victoria and Andrés/Nicky isn't looking so likely. Are we to assume that Nicky told the kid Octavio wasn't his bio dad? And...at least to me...Andrés is looking like kind of a brat. And, yes, showing up that way WAS presumptuous. In my experience telenovela galans always do the pursuing. If the woman runs after the guy...well she's shady. So those of you who were suspicious may be right.

So, Juanita, my happily ever after prediction was a bit like your belief that Rafa would see the kiss. But I certainly prefer the way it happened. I think Rafa has a sense of how his brother is and won't automatically assume Loli was enthusiastically kissing back.

Pau/Adán/Vicente triangle...couldn't interest me less.

Thanks Juanita and novelera for the kind words and comments.

novelera:
I’m sure you’re right about Altimio. I confess I don’t pay much attention to Bruno and family. I just heard him talking to someone on the phone on the whereabouts of Altimio so I made a wrong assumption. Thanks for the correction.

“I can't tell if the writers have so many glitches in the plot or if I should get my "head examined" for senility.” Don’t get your head examined. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of “glitches, plot holes, etc.

I’m on board with your prediction of Pau’s future with Vicente.

Juanita:
I chuckled at your prediction: "…Raul had fallen in love with a social worker, I shouted, "Bertha!!!" We've already seen that she handles ALL cases in the novela, so....” You never know in this TN, but I’m suspecting that Raul might have been lying to his wife about falling in love with someone else.

Nothing wrong with making all kinds of predictions and speculations—let’s throw them against the wall and see what sticks! It’s an important part of watching, discussing, and enjoying our TNs!

Happy Mothers Day to all mothers and mother figures.

OT

I just wanted to mention that 'La Llorona' is very famous in Mexican folklore.

I love when writers insert something worth learning in telenovelas. I think a great many of us Caraymates appreciate learning different things about Mexíco that we would not have known otherwise.

For example, when the producers locate a novela within a special Mexican locale: 'Destilando Amor' (tequila land), 'Cuando Me Enamoró' (Baja California wine cultivating and making land), and 'Amor Bravío' (Mexican bull stud farms). Can anyone think of others?
Additionally, there was Sebastián Rulli and Alejandro Durán practicing Aikido and, thanks to Urban, learning about the Japanese body tattooing art of the Yakuza.

If you want to learn more about 'La Llorona', here are two links you might wish to pull up. For me, they were really worth watching/knowing about.
