Hercai: Amor y Venganza - Episode #5
Part 1
Reyyan, still disoriented wakes up and finds herself in a stranger’s car. She was rescued from the burning cabin by one of Bad Grannie’s henchmen (we were all wrong on this one!) and who is sitting next to her in the back seat of the car is none other than Bad Grannie Azize herself! (I already have a ton of questions like how in the heck did she know exactly where Miran and Reyyan spent the night? Does she have a GPS on him too?).
Reyyan asks, who are you? Why did you rescue me? Bad Grannie says nothing and only glares. Reyyan quickly realizes that they are driving her into the middle square of her little town. She pleads to Bad Grannie to please not stop here, everyone knows her. The car stops and Bad Grannie orders her out of the car. Reyyan pleads, but the henchman pulls her out and drops her to the ground. A crowd is already gathering to watch the humiliating spectacle.
Bad Grannie also gets out of the car and hisses to Reyyan: Did you think you would martyr yourself by burning in that fire? Did you actually think someone would return to rescue you? No, you don’t get off that easily, you need to feel that burning in your heart, that shame. Bad Grannie turns away, but the spunky Reyyan asks: Who are you? Azize stops momentarily and then walks back to the car. (Yes, Bad Grannie, who or what are you?).
Reyyan is left in the middle of the square, the people surrounding her make comments, some women sound sympathetic, the men of course do not. Reyyan stands and begins to pound on the car window, begging to be allowed back in and not left there. Azize drives away. Reyyan quickly moves away from the crowd, running anywhere to get away. She runs into an alleyway fearful of who is following her. As she stops at a building corner, an older man grabs her arm and pulls her out of sight. He seems very kind and tells her not to be afraid, to follow him. After a brief hesitancy, Reyyan follow the older gentleman.
We move to the cabin that was completely destroyed by the fire. A group of men are standing around. Firat drives up and asks what occurred? He is told by one of the men that no one knows what happened but it appears the fire was intentionally set. Firat asks if there was anyone in the cabin, any survivors? The man says that he doubts anyone could have survived the blaze.
Firat is stunned and stumbles away thinking: What am I going to tell Miran? (other than he is a jerk?). Firat decides not to say anything until he knows for sure what happened to Reyyan.
Miran is driving back to the family home in Kars. He remembers his wedding night with Reyyan as he tried to warm her hands and she tells him that no one can hurt her as long as he is with him. Out loud, he tells himself to maintain resolve, he has completed the venganza, no one had pity on or helped his mother or him. There was no mercy. He bangs the car steering wheel saying there is no looking back! Keep your head cool and in the game Miran.
Part 2
The kindly gentleman opens the door to his humble, neat little home. He graciously invites Reyyan in and tells her to sit down. She hesitates at first but does sit down on the small bed, completely deflated and exhausted. The guardian angel offers her a cup of hot tea. Then tells her that there are three facts/destinies in life, that you are born, you know who you will marry and that you die. If you are hurt unjustly in life and are innocent, pray to God with all your heart and He knows the truth and your destiny in life. Have faith.
Reyyan tells the kind gentleman that she has no strength, no energy and is exhausted. He tells her to rest here for awhile to recoup her strength. She cannot go out into the street as people will talk about her. He promises that he is only wants to help and would never hurt her. She resigns herself to trust him and lies down to sleep. The kind gentleman covers her with a blanket.
Bad Grannie, Sultana and Gonul arrive at the home in Kars. They are greeted by the staff; the lead servant, I think her name is Esma, greets Gonul by calling her SeÑora Gonul. All smiles, Bad Grannie tells Gonul that tonight is the night for her and Miran, she has waited well. Gonul, thanks Grannie and head up with Sultana to “prepare.”
Dreaming, Reyyan sees herself balancing on the precipice of the cliff where Miran made the “swing to the heavens” for her. She hears him call for her: “Reyyan” turning, she sees the kind, Turkish Hunk of Burning Love (thank you Nina) smiling and offering his hand. Miran, looking very handsome in a black turtleneck and gray jacket, tells her that he would never abandon her, or leave her. He will love her to the end of his days. She takes his hand and he joins her standing very, very close. Suddenly, the beautiful dream turns into a nightmare as the kind Miran turns into the hate filled, Bad Grannie raised Miran and he pushes Reyyan in an attempt to send her tumbling off the cliff. Gratefully, she is caught by her father, she sees Hazar’s kind face and wakes, calling papa! The guardian angel is sitting reading, watching over her and smiles kindly.
Azat is walking the streets of the small town when he overhears a conversation between two men talking about the woman in the wedding dress abandoned in the middle of town. One man tells the other that she must have really betrayed her husband for him to humiliate her that way. Azat is quick to realize that they are talking about Reyyan.
Yaren is pacing in her room wondering why there is no word about the fate of Reyyan. Where is she, certainly they would have thrown her into the street by now, could she have escaped? She then hears Azat yelling for her. He barrels into her bedroom and grabs her by the throat, tell me what you know? Why did you say the things you said yesterday about me waiting one more day to things to resolve? What do you know? Tell me or I will call the Abuelo and have him beat it out of you! (Please do!).
Yaren lies that she knows nothing. Handan comes in and hears Azat tell Yaren to stop lying, to explain why the whole town is talking about Reyyan being tossed into the street in her wedding dress. For at least a moment Handan has the decency to look horrified.
Hercai: Amor y Venganza - Episode #5
Part 3
With the threat of telling Grampa Tyrant, Yaren finally fesses up that she overheard Sultana and Gonul discussing what would happen to Reyyan. Handan and Azat cannot believe that Yaren would not have done or said something to help Reyyan. Yaren claims that she did nothing except not say anything, she didn’t toss Reyyan into the street. Handan is furious and tells Yaren that if the Abuelo finds out that what she kept a secret he would punish her and the family, even tossing them out on the street. Handan is so angry with Yaren, she hauls off and gives her a good ole fashion novela slap!
Handan tells both her children that if they were not her blood, she would spit on them and disown both of them. They are supposed to take care of family, not dishonor the family.
Of course, Yaren makes this about herself blaming her mother for giving away her wedding gown to Reyyan, to Azat for not declaring his love for Reyyan (another shocker for Handan to absorb) no one cares about her, her feelings. She beings to bawl on the bed. This softens Handan up and she tells both of them that this secret will stay between the three of them. Azat asks what about Reyyan? Handan says, I am not her mother, let her mother take care of her. (So nice of you Handan, poor Zehra is with Gul in the hospital).
Azat is disgusted and storms out of the room to find Reyyan. Conveniently, one of the house servants is listening to this gossip so the secret won’t be a secret long, I hope. Grampa Tyrant has heard all the yelling and demands to know what is going on. Azat wants the two women to tell the truth, but both lie convincingly that Azat was only trying to defend Yaren’s honor in not being the chosen one for Miran. The Abuelo believes the lies, Azat does nothing to dispute the claims and he leaves the mansion.
Back in Kars, Gonul is fixing up a bedroom with candles and pretty sheets. (I did notice a bedside picture of Bad Grannie and Miran, not one of Miran and Gonul). She is dressed in a lovely lavender nightgown and robe. She tells herself that finally Miran and she can be a couple!
Miran arrives at the home in Kars, he looks tired, angry and distant. Esma and another servant greet him happily, he is kind in his response. Bad Grannie is in her usual midnight vigil with the elements of darkness, Miran greets her and she greets her “lion” in return. She offers him a meal, but he quickly declines saying he is exhausted. She encourages him to get some rest. The servant girl giggles to Esma that Miran is not going to get any rest because Señor Gonul is up in the bedroom ready to pounce!
Miran enters what is his own bedroom and sees Gonul fidgeting nervously on the bed. His eyes make a quick sweep of the seduction scene she has laid out (pun intended) for him. Gonul says, good evening Miran. He asks, what are you doing in my bedroom? Please leave, I am tired and don’t have time to deal with you tonight. Please cover yourself and return to your bedroom. (Well that will sure kill a mood).
Gonul tells Miran that the venganza is done there is nothing impeding them from being a couple. She demands that he honor the promises he made to her. She says that they are married (I didn’t catch this part of the conversation very well as it sounded like a marriage contract, not a marriage marriage?). Miran says that he has never promised her anything. Miran is more than direct, telling her he does not love her. He turns to leave; she grabs him in a hug. Miran quickly extricates himself and tells her to leave him alone and stop making a fool of herself. Gonul slams the door shut and throws her wedding ring on to the bed.
Part 4
An angry Miran comes back down the stairs, Sultana is watching from a window and of course Bad Grannie is lurking in the shadows and emerges from a dark doorway. Where are you going Miran, you just arrived? Miran tells her he is going out for a walk to quiet his mind. She recommends that he return to his bedroom, to his wife to quiet his mind. Gonul has been waiting a long time for this night. She says that she raised a him as a man to honor his duties and responsibilities, if he does not return to the bedroom tonight then it will happen tomorrow. Gonul is his wife.
For the first time, Miran is contradictory to Azize, he tells her that he honored the venganza that is all he is going to do. He leaves and leaves Bad Grannie sputtering his immediate return. When Miran does not heed Bad Grannie’s warning to return, she vows that he will do what she says and she has ways to convince him to comply. (Oh I be the old witch has a lot of brews in her caldron for sure!). Sultana continues to view everything from the second story window.
A very angry Miran, gets the car keys from the henchman and then a call from Firat. Miran questions him. Why haven’t you called or returned my calls? Did you go to the cabin? Firat tells him that he didn’t want to call until he knew more, but the cabin burned to the ground, no I don’t know where Reyyan is, but no one could have survived the fire. Miran is crestfallen in disbelief (what did you think was going to happen Miran?). He tells Firat that Reyyan cannot be dead, he would have felt it. He tells Firat to wait at the cabin, he is on his way.
Back inside the witch’s coven, Bad Grannie is pacing and Gonul comes racing down the stairs yelling. She demands that Bad Grannie honor her promise that Miran would be hers and consummate their marriage! If that does not occur, Gonul will die, just die! Bad Grannie heads out to the front door and demand that henchman #1 give her is gun. Azize grabs the gun and comes back to the crying Gonul. Bad Grannie shows her the gun and says take it! Take it and kill yourself over this if you want. Bad Grannie gets mean(er) and tells Gonul that a real woman would have known how to successfully get her man into the bedroom.
Gonul explodes and tells Grannie that she did indeed get Miran into her bed the night of their wedding. It was Bad Grannie who came into the bedroom and removed Miran, telling him that this would “soften” him for the venganza. Gonul angrily tells Grannie that all this is her fault, she planned this so well but she did not plan for Miran’s actual feelings. It is Grannie’s fault! Bad Grannie gets even meaner and wraps her hand around Gonul’s throat, choking her and saying that she will not be disrespected in that manner, Grannie will kill Gonul with her own bare hand without regard that they are blood relatives!
Gratefully (I think), Sultana breaks the chokehold on her daughter and asks Azize to calm down, everyone just calm down. (I have to say my pulse got going with this scene). Bad Grannie tells Gonul to get out of her sight! Grannie looks toward the front door, a look of concern on her face.
Sultana takes Gonul back to the unused love nest bedroom. Sultana angrily tells her not to test Azize, she will have no issue killing Gonul. Gonul says she wishes she had the valor to have taken that gun and put a bullet through her head. Sultana says if anyone knows what Azize is capable of, it is me. Scoffing at her mother, Gonul says, really? What have you lost mother? I have lost everything! Sultana then removes part of her dress and shows Gonul what she has suffered under the hands of Gonul’s father. We see a large burn make on Sultana’s left side, it looks to be in the shape of an iron.
Hercai: Amor y Venganza - Episode #5
Part 5
Sultana then tells the story of abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband, Solia. He would get drunk and beat her until the day he died. Sultana never understood why he was so abusive except to know that he was the son of Azize and that made her understand a bit more. She was pregnant with a child, a son, when Gonul was only one year old. She was close to giving birth and was preparing the baby’s bag to take to the hospital, ironing the baby clothes. Solia arrived drunk and beat her putting the hot iron on her stomach. She passed out and awoke in the hospital by herself only to find out that her son had been born dead and was taken away, due to the injury provoked by her husband. (Could we have an unknown son out there?).
Sultana wanted to run away and die, but made herself be strong so as not to leave a young Gonul to be raised by Azize. She says that the Aslanbey family killed her son! They owe her a son. Azize is not the only one who has been waiting for revenge. She tells Gonul if she wants to die before giving her mother a grandchild, then Gonul needs to kill her first, just shoot her.
Gonul is stunned (as are we) by this past history of her mother’s suffering. She pulls herself together and honors her mother by proudly saying she will be strong as she is the daughter of the Sultana Aslanbey. They support each other arm in arm.
Miran is driving and praying to God that Reyyan is alive. He says he has already suffered the pain and death of his parents; he cannot suffer another loss.
Azat arrives at the hotel demanding to know where Miran or Firat are. The doorman knows nothing only that they called for the cars and all left earlier that morning.
Reyyan is sitting sadly on the bed, her guardian angel is serving her some bread and soup. He encourages to eat at least two spoonful’s. She obliges with one. He recommends that she returns to her home with her family. Reyyan is terrified (with good reason) that her Abuelo will get rid of her. The kind gentleman says that she needs to remember the dream she told him of, where her father rescued her from falling. He says, your parents will know what to do. Reyyan says that her husband did terrible things to her, she is not worthy. He reminds her that her husband will one day face his maker and will have to pay for his sins.
Miran arrives at the burned down cabin. Firat is waiting for him. Miran is horrified by the sight. He enters the cabin shell. At the same time, Reyyan is walking home in the middle of the night with her guardian angel walking behind her to make sure she is safe. Miran finds a string of silver prayer beads in the ash. He remembers Reyyan secretly placing these beads into his hand after a visit at the mansion. (I don’t know if this was a cut scene that we never saw or this was meant to be added here or I just completely missed this in the first 4 episodes).
He asks her, is this a gift for me? She says, not a gift, I am entrusting you with it. I am also entrusting you to God. They say that if you entrust someone to God, you will see them again before you die. Miran sobs softly, then he sees the beautiful ring he gave Reyyan as an engagement gift. He pulls that from the ashes. He says, no, Reyyan, you are not dead, you entrusted me to God and that means you have to see me again! Miran heads out of the cabin quickly. Firat asks: Miran, where are you going? Miran responds, to find Reyyan.
What a terrific recap, VVS! You've captured everything beautifully, and your asides are both insightful and a delight.
Like you, I wondered how Bad Grannie knew exactly where to find Reyyan. Again, I guess we simply have to suspend disbelief.
And I love the idea that perhaps there's an unknown son roaming about in search of a telenovela to join.
I have a question about one scene last night. It's when BG, Sultana, and Gonul return to Kars. BG tells Gonul to go and get ready for her big night with Miran. Twice during this scene, the camera moves to show another young woman, one with dark hair, wearing an orangish sweater and blue slacks or jeans. At one point the camera stays on her. Clearly, she's important, but I have no idea who she is. Do you or anyone else know?
The plot is certainly thickening! I hope it doesn't get too thick for me to recap tonight!
Wow, just wow! Your recap was fantastic, VVS. And I agree, this one was definitely pulse pounding.
Memory is a funny thing. I didn't remember Reyyan heading for home. I was hoping the kindly old gentleman had some women's clothes in that small dwelling that Reyyan could use to change and get away from all these nut cases.
So...no news about Gul?
I loved "good old fashioned novela slap". We all love those, don't we, when administered to the correct person.
I sort of understand Handan wanting to cover things up. Everyone in this house lives in fear of Grandpa Tyrant. I would have loved to see Yaren get her just desserts, but she seems to have lied her way out of it.
I suppose we'll have to wait a long time, maybe until the last week, to learn all the secrets Azize has hidden under her black clothes. Definitely there's a black heart under there.
So she is the mother-in-law from hell to Sultan. [Her name confuses me. They've said Sultan, but last night Sultana came out once. I thought the feminine version would always be Sultana.]
One of Azize's sons is buried, along with his wife. She goes on and on about him being so good. It has been mentioned here that Miran only addresses his mother. Could the father have been as bad as his brother, the one who beat and burned Sultan(a)? Did they say how Sultan's husband died?
They went with the old TN chestnut. Miran would psychically know if Reyyan had died. I want him to believe she's dead and suffer, big time! And the way he spoke to his cousin, Gonul, was just awful. She's far from the typical TN other woman. She's just gone along with Bad Grannie's plan, hoping that she'll then have a normal life with Miran.
Juanita, I don't remember the scene you described with the different young woman. Sorry.
This novela definitely has the hook in novelera's mouth and set deep!
This was a fabulous recap, VVS! You left nothing out. Loved your comments. I don’t think you missed anything about the beads. It is possible it was cut. Could’ve been introduced via this flashback.
I have an idea of what to expect from an Eastern Turkish tale, but this had me yelling at the TV last night. I’ve never seen such a soulless grannie. Those scenes with Gonul—too much!
“What am I going to tell Miran? (other than he is a jerk?)” LOL
“good ole fashion novela slap!” I was enjoying Handan and Azat ripping into Yaren until Handan decided to sweep it under the good ole Turkish rug.
Juanita, the young girl is Elif, another one of Azize’s grandchildren. Bad Grannie seems to like this one. We don’t know much about Elif yet.
We know nothing of Sultan(a)’s abusive husband’s demise yet. The captions are always screwy with Turkish names, they can be numerous different spellings from . She is listed as Sultan in Wikipedia.
Not a spoiler—I think there’s definitely an “unknown son” out there.
I’d like to know how everyone travels back and forth so quickly from Midyat to Kars. It’s about an 8 hour drive. Telenovela magic.
Miran would look much more handsome with a different hairstyle.
dondi356
There is a lot to pay attention to in this TN for sure! I had gotten used to FF thru all the Bruno and Melissa scenes that now I have to be on it with this one. Thank you, Juanita and novelera for the comments and great questions!
Juanita, I totally forgot to mention Elif, the younger granddaughter. She was the one in the reddish/orange sweater. In the very first episode, Miran refers to her as little sister, but maybe younger prima? In the third episode, she calls BG (love it) and asks about the wedding then is annoyed when BG said she did not attend the wedding. BG seems to have a soft spot for her, but not sure who she really is. Thank you dondi356 for verifying this before I posted my response!
There was no mention of how Sultana’s abusive husband died. I think Miran’s father was probably just as awful considering who he was raised by. It occurred to me that there has been no mention of Grampa Tyrants wife either and no mention of BG’s husband.
I was also hoping that the kind gentleman would have clothes for Reyyan to change into or that Azat would see her on the street and rescue her.
I felt sorry of Gonul as well, she was promised love and a husband but has been very astute to Miran and his feelings for Reyyan. Not sure if she and Sultana can pull off a suitable internal venganza against BG, but it is sure worth a try!
If you are surprised by this Turkish tale dondi356, imagine us Turkish TN virgins! 😊 I was stunned by a lot of the medieval thinking that novelera addressed in the very first episode! I have mixed feelings about Miran's hairstyle, I sort of like it. I am also, very, very hooked.
YES…… GRAMDMOMMA FROM HELL … puts the Icing on the crap cake and deposits Reyyan into the middle of town .......to further emphasize her humiliation and disgrace… if it does nothing else ...it publicly humiliates the family with a sideshow of scandal and can never be lived down[ on the female's part ],exhibition of marital rejection!
The town had sympathy ...because most of them are aware , that this is some patriarchal injustice / bullsh@t ,however the other half cosigned this abusive bullcrap…..Either way its bad. And dangerous for the woman....
Aziza… throws salt into her wounds and proceeds to grind her foot into Reyyan's broken spirit and tells her …this pain is just beginning… you can’t die yet.
Really-Now Aziza!!.. the girl tried to commit suicide and you pull her out of the grave into a fire storm.
WTF! CAN’T SHE DIE IN PIECE..LET Her HAVE SOME DIGNITY ,in her humiliation...!!
LUCKILY REYANN gets it together and runs for her life/aszz and .. and avoids any other abuse by random stranger/MEN..!!.. She is pulled by an arm ..out of the alley & finds a grandfather from heaven….
Back at the cabin and Fryat the Rat is upset…??for whom/who? does-he loves Mirani that much. Whatever?!
Mirani. Is having hand fetishes..flashback... Cause his memories don’t mean jack. Reyyan is suffering in real time!!!…he is nostalgia over a woman ..he really never knew…so what the heck is that all abt??.
Kindly gentleman must havesome knowledge abt her family. People did recognize her, and the gossip was flying around that square …whispers!
That was very uplifting and the 3 lines of destiny. Written on th palm of your Chamsa/ Hamsa hand!!!!!
Golnu is one thirsty chick.. so, Who-the heck , would ever ask their grandmomma if this is the night,my and husband and I will finally have sex..??did granny know abt the dry bed… and Golnu ,why would want to have sex with Miran after his wedding night with another wife...
WS:YES!!
Golnu why would want to have sex with Miran after his wedding night with another wife AND TO ACCEPT BEING SLOPPY SECONDS!! YUCK!!
That dream was interesting. And yes ...the dude ,tried to kill you.. yes ...trust your dad..
Baggy eyed cuz Azat overheard the gossip on the street and runs home to confront the snake called Yaren…… Yaren, you are so hungry and excited for the eventual death of Reyyan…you -abt -to -piss- yourself… !! dirty bit@h!!
Azat should have clocked your aszz…. Oh, heck yea! fell free -to-beat-that--heifer’s-aszz…Can we hold her down for ya??!!
But the slap of the day was when Handan realizes this dirtyblondie chick is abt to get them all thrown out into the street .. Handan like to -crack her skull with that right hand…
The threat of disowning and spitting on them had me rolling… !!
And then Narcissistic Borderline personality disorder classic case study : Yarren proceeds to shovel bull crap abt feeling rejected,, the wedding dress and loving Mirani… and Hadam flips in commiseration??!!.it didn’t take much to flip Handan to Yaren side
Azat asked his mother .........what are we going to do about REYYEN and his mother said …’hell with her ..you my children! I'm only going to worry about you .. later for her’…..
Azat is right to be disgusted and I find it fascinating that the servant that overheard the whole conversation is the meanest ,GREEDIEST ever…… she stood behind the door repeating everything they said ……….so she wouldn't get it wrong.
The ruckus brought grandpa tyrant, out of his CAVE ..bull charging and bellowing.. demanding to know what the problem was!
Both of those ******* lied and turned their eyes -feigning -puppy -dog -eyes to cousin's Azat asking him to cosign their ********
Back AT- the- ranch ..GUNOL:LEGAL-wife number one ,is laying -on the -silk lingerie... lighting A-serious number of ROMANTIC-fragrant candles and fragrant Cologne for that massage on their special night.
Mr. Mirani walks into his bedroom ...sees his first wife and loses his mind? He tells the chick to get the hell out……@!!@#$% he doesn’t give a damn@#$% about what she wants …….he don't@#$% care about the marriage@#$% contract ……….
Mirani is Outta -of-pocket/dead wrong!!......which is really bad because it is a signed contract. AND I BET EVEN MONEY THEY WERE MARRIED according to 'Hadith'...!! in the MOSQUE-Masjid[ not some bullcrap home wedding]..performed by the IMAN..with a valid Sahria law wedding contract... ………
.He didn't promise her &%$#@ nothing ……….she can go to hell. …..then dude had to unclenched from first wife Anne….and he rolled on out…COLDBLOODIED!!!!!
Mr. Mirani that was a bad move ….a very bad move to tell your wife to stop making a fool of herself is how you get poisoned/DEAD… in the future.
Mirani walks past grandma she tries to put the MK ultra-mind control on him ….but it doesn't work... he tells grandma that he- did- all -he's -going- to- do………. I am I'm out.
I notice the servants Esma, was rolling up the evening pray/salat rugs and of course Grandmom would be the leader .. how the heck can she pray without being choked by the words!!
First wife is very upset, and she demands that Grandma Taliban women commander, give her support and help her….. otherwise, she's going to commit suicide
oh yea!!Didn't grandma from El Qadda-hell……. give that chick a gun and challenged her to get it together and get her man….OR GET DEAD!!
What is really fascinating ..that it was grandma that pulled Mirani out of their wedding bed!! that is some BS.!! that old woman doesn't want that boy to go to bed with any woman ??…… probably other than herself….. there's a problem here …….she's keeping Mirani's kundalini energy to herself……. Whoa!!!!! that is a cold shot grandma pulled your husband out of your wedding bed.
Of course, first wife and grandma go at it ……….get physical and sultana had to come and break it up because Ayatollah Khamenei’s wife will kill you because you are nothing but a pawn!
Sultana, she better have a real serious play…. because grandma ain't no joke …she's a killer ..
Sultana's story is very interesting ........are you telling me that grandma sons are murderers as well as wife beaters [on the light side].. so, Sultana says the Taliban’soffshoot/Aslanbey’s owe her a baby……… I don't know how that's gonna workout.
OK ..back to miss REYYAN ,she's finally gathered enough strength to try to make her way back to her home and I'm starting to realize that she might be waking up and thinking about some revenge for herself maybe!
so, Mirani the bastard, finds … ring??some jewelry or prayer bead………those prayer beads should have burned his hand alive when he touched them.
Well.. getting ready to see miss REYYAN ..poor doomed chick--in a fog..in shock..finds her way back home ...God only knows what's gonna happen , when she steps into that house ..a home- that makes al Qaeda look like Reformed terrorist.
Juanita:
the young lady in the jeans and sweater is another grandchild of Madam Aziza.
Novelera:
YES….HANDAN ,, DOESNOT WANT TO JEAPODIZE THAT lifestyle. In the mansion. If she got to walk over Reyyan ..too bad!
I want to know what Sultana intends to do for the lost baby..! and you're right ..Mammi Aziza never mentions the other sons!??in detail??....
SULTANA’S UNKNOWN SON..I HOPE he is a player. Gotta be all Grown up…!! Maybe a policeman or an OUTLAW…??
DONDI365:
YES….Elif is a teenage the next generation Z ..no way she is going to accept this bullcrap!!a Facebook. Instagram baby!!
Ws:
Yes. What abt Mirani’s dad!! And what abt the men in this Aslanbey...family??
Yes.. we are in a cultural time wrap……. And the women are second class citizens…still...this sh#$%t is cultural based ...
it looks like there is no police other than military and you don’t want them to intervene……
Oh my HALIMACANDY! Your recap of the recap was much more fun to read! The cultural differences are definitely going to be a challenge for me to understand. It is a time warp for us.
I think Gonul is not going to give up on Miran so easily. Pretty sure Reyyan isn’t going to be overly happy when she learns Miran is married, that is if she survives what he did to her. Miran needs to suffer some before getting her back.
Tonight is going to be a tough one to watch I think.
Halimacandy, I could be wrong, but I don't think Miran was supposed to have sex with Reyyan. I think he was just supposed to reject her and much faster than how it happened.
The evil grandmother kept asking why Miran hadn't come to either their hotel or to join them in Kars. So maybe he was supposed to reject her in the hotel room they were on their way to when the car died on that lonesome road?
Thanks very much, VVS, dondi356, and Halimacandy, for identifying the young woman in the orange sweater as Elif, another of BG's grandchildren. I remember Elif greeting BG warmly and respectfully, but somehow I didn't connect that person with the young woman who appeared somewhat mysteriously in the scene I mentioned. It was the camera's remaining on her as if to draw attention to her that made me curious. It will be interesting to see what role she'll play in all the melodramatic happenings.
novelera, I was under the impression that Miran was supposed to be with Reyyan on the night after their marriage and then to leave her the next morning. I would imagine that sleeping with her the first night would leave her as even more "damaged goods" in that society than leaving her a virgin would.
I may be missing in action for a while. While the novela was recording and I was watching a bit of the Giants-Dodgers game, my TV went silent. It is still recording Hercai so I suppose I would be able to see it at some point. Even weirder, the captions aren't working on any channel.
So I have a Roku machine to watch streaming things which I seldom do. When I switched the TV to the different area where I see streaming programs, the sound was there.
I have a TV repair guy who I haven't needed for years. I thought I'd just disconnect everything - after Hercai and Cafe record - and see if turning everything off is the magic trick.
If not, I'll just have to get my Chinese/Peruvian/American guy to come over. He was born in Peru, ethnically Chinese; and, of course, has lived in the U.S. for many many years. He set up my original DirecTV arrangement. He can't work on DirecTV's stuff anymore, though. Once the evil empire (AT&T) bought DirecTV, they refuse to allow independent, non-AT&T people to work on stuff. Even though Fernando is twice as qualified as any of their #$%& employees. Can't see why he can't try to fix my TV, because the satellite is still working recording programs for me with no sound.
Well, when I turned off the entire power strip and re-booted the satellite, the sound came back. No clue. Guess I'll burn some midnight oil and watch Hercai.
Hercai: Amor y venganza - #2 - p 1 de 3
Firat and Miran are parked outside the Sadoglu compound. Firat asks Miran where he's going. To find Reyyan, Miran replies.
Azat spots Reyyan. He rushes up to her and tells her not to go in. Their grandfather will kill her. Alas, Yaren sees Azat and Reyyan and immediately shouts for her mother and (of course) her grandfather. Nasuh comes and confronts Reyyan. "Where is your husband?" "I don't know. He left." "Why did he leave?" Nasuh demands to know. "What did you do to make him leave?" He then strikes Reyyan and knocks her to the ground. Yaren watches with smug, satisfied look on her face. A furious Azat leaves and drives away.
At the hospital, Zehra tells Hazar, "When I close my eyes, I see Reyyat surrounded by flames." Azat rushes into the hospital and asks Hazar to come with him. It's an emergency. As soon as they are outside the hospital, Azar berates Hazar. "I told you not to give her to that man." He goes on to tell him about Reyyan's return: "She was tossed out of the car in her wedding gown. She's heartbroken. All Midyat is talking about it." Zehra comes out and asks what the problem is. Hazar tells her that his father was dizzy. Hazar assures her that he'll come back after he checks on his father.
Firat tries to call someone (a servant?), but she rejects the call. Firat then urges Miran to leave. It wasn't a good idea to come. If anyone sees them, it could get ugly. Miran insists that he won't leave until he finds Reyyan. Firat points out that Reyyan knows Nasuh will kill her if he sees her, so she won't come here. Miran replies, "Reyyan has nowhere else to go." Then Firat gets a message, perhaps from the person he tried to call. The message tells him, "Reyyan is here." The person is afraid that Nasuh will kill her. Miran gets out of the car and starts walking toward the compound.
Azat drives Hazar to the Sadoglu compound. They pass Miran, who is on foot. When they get to the entrance Hazar and Azat enter, but Azat comes out momentarily to see whether he in fact saw Miran walking. He sees no one and goes back in.
Grandfather Tyrant (GT) tells Reyyan, "Your sister was shot at the wedding. Everything is your fault." Reyyan is stunned. She wants to go see her sister. GT ignores her wish. Hazar tells GT, "I'll find that bastard and make him pay for what he did." GT looks at Reyyan and declares, "You know our traditions. There is only one punishment: death." Miran and Firat have watched the encounter from a high level inside the Sadoglu compound. Miran tells Firat, "If I don't act, she'll be killed." Down below, we hear Hazar argue with his father. "We don't know what happened." GT replies, "All Midyat knows. There is no other solution." Handan comes up and suggests, "We could marry her off immediately." I at first assumed she had Azat in mind, since she knows he's in love with Reyyan. However, GT's intense fury makes me doubt that he would accept any member of his family as the husband for the dishonored Reyyan. At any rate, GT does seem open to the idea. "We need to find a husband. You have 24 hours to do that."
Inside, GT and his son Cihan are worried--about their finances. Cihan moans to his father, "We're ruined. Our partnership, our money. We signed the papers." GT shares his son's concern. He tells Reyyan, "You've dishonored our family and ruined our business. Why did your husband leave you on the first day? Do you have any idea how much it will cost the Sadoglu family?" Reyyan continues to insist that she has no idea why Miran did this.
Hercai: Amor y venganza - #2 - p 2 de 3
Hazar talks with Reyyan. She wants to talk to her mother, to hear her voice one more time, and find out how Gul is. Hazar says she can't speak to her mother, she'll know something is wrong. "I'll tell her I'm calling from my new house." Hazar still says no, Zehra knows her daughter too well, she'll still know something is wrong. Reyyan asks, "What am I supposed to do, Papa? I swear I didn't dishonor you." Hazar again asks why Miran left her. "What did he say?" Hazar asks. "He said, 'Ask the Sadoglus'." Suddenly, Hazar seems to have an idea. "How could I not see this?" he asks. "Fathers are responsible for their children's lives." Reyyan replies, "And I am your daughter. You are my father." He gives the impression of agreeing, saying "I am the man who raised you. And in my heart, I believe you, but if a man kicks you out, and in your wedding dress, there's nothing I can do as your father." He then tells her that her grandfather wants to marry her off and send her far away from here. Reyyan says, "If I leave, Grandfather will never let me back." "But you'd be alive!" Hazar points out. He then wonders what he did to deserve this, and he asks, "How can I save you?"
Meanwhile, Bad Grannie (BG) tells everyone that they should pack their things. "Tomorrow we leave for Midyat."
Miran looks at the prayer beads he found in the cabin's ashes. As he does so, the theme song plays.
The next morning, BG walks slowly to the exit of her palatial estate, looking very sad (but not nearly as sad as I'd like her to be). She turns and addresses the palace: "You've kept our secrets for years. But this is not my true home. I've had 27 years of longing, but the longing is over. We're coming, Sadoglus. Prepare yourselves. The Aslanbeys are coming home." And with that, she closes up the doors.
GT and Hazar are talking. Suddenly Cihan rushes into the room and announces, "We've been conned! The officiant has left. The wedding and the officiant were fake! It was a scam! Hazar exclaims, "Reyyan was right. She said the man came to us with a plan in mind." GT is puzzled. "Yes, but why? Who was behind this? If it were just a scam, they would have taken the money. Why go after our honor?" Hazar, having begun to formulate an idea when he spoke with Reyyan, now asks his father, "Papa, could it be...?" [ I suspect he didn't mean "Could it be time for the commercials," but that's what followed.] Anyway, a few minutes later when the conversation resumes, GT replies that no, he didn't think so, "That was years ago, it's water uner the dam." Hazar asks, "Do you think those years would make them forget the pain?" GT thinks "It's not them. No one could wait so long. They must have taken revenge long ago." Cihan asks what they're talking about. GT tells him it's nothing.
Handan comes into the room and tells GT that the matchmaker has called. "A rich man from the village of Urfa has agreed to it. He can come today and bring an imam." GT agrees that the man should come. "This has to be handled quickly. Our shame is too great." He then tell Cihan to speak with their lawyer about how to handle the scam. Cihan has already talked to him. The lawyer told him that under the circumstances, they can't void the contract unilaterally. If we did, we'd have to pay a huge fine. GT asks, Are you saying that if we cancel, we'd lose everything we have? Then we'd lose the family's prestige." Cihan proposes, "Let's first marry off Reyyan so we can regain our prestige. I'll handle the rest."
Hercai: Amor y venganza - #6 - p 3 de 3
Azat knocks at the door of the room where Reyyan is. They talk through the closed door. Azat tells her, "Pack your things and come with me. You won't have to marry a stranger." Reyyan tells him, "Don't risk yourself for me." Azat asks, "You'd rather marry a stranger than your cousin?" Reyyan informs him, "I wouldn't marry my cousin if he were the last man on earth. I am going to accept my fate." "Is that your last word?" Azat asks. He leaves.
Handan tells Reyyan, "You'll bring no more shame to our family." Yaren adds, "You'll pay for every tear you made me shed. I curse you, Reyyan, I wish you the worst." Reyyan looks at Handan and says, "I always saw you as family. How can you say things like that to me? I pray your daughter is never tested as I have been."
BG arrives at Midyat and opens her mansion. She has memories of her son Mehmet. She tells a servant to give a message to the Sadoglus: "The Aslanbey family have arrived. If you are brave enough to show your face, you may come. I'm here."
We see an older man arrive. He is directed to the room where GT is waiting. The man passes by Yaren, who again has a smirk on her face as she sees the prospective groom, who is old enough to be her grandfather.
Hazar pleads with GT not to give Reyyan to that man. "He's your age, Papa. Let me find someone more appropriate." GT tells him, "You have no right to choose a groom. You should be grateful that we found someone."
The servant Melike calls another woman (Nigar). Melike is upset that Reyyan is being married off to a man three times her age. She says, "We have to do something. We can't keep this a secret any more." I have no idea what the secret is. Melike suggests that perhaps Sra Zehra can help. Nigar explains all the reasons that Sra Zehra can't do anything at this time to help her daughter. The conversation ends, and we see that Sra Zehra has overheard the conversation.
Melike then spots the car with Miran and Firat. She goes over to it. Miran hands her a piece of paper and tells her to give it to Reyyan. Melike is reluctant, she thinks (quite rightly) that Miran has treated Reyyan terribly. "I curse the day I decided to help you," she tells him. Firat tells her that if she gives the paper to Reyyan and Reyyan reads it, "we'll save her." She asks, "If you were going to help her escape, why did you abandon her?" She takes the paper and leaves.
Hazar comes to see Reyyan. He asks Handan to let him speak to his daughter alone. Handan leaves. Reyyan pleads with him not to give her in marriage to that old man. Hazan tells her to get her coat and cover her face so no one will recognize her. He then tells her to climb a wall that he points to, enter the building, then leave. He gives her money and tells her to take it and run. She's not wearing any shoes, and apparently there's no time to find a pair. She leaves.
We then see a scene where Miran has essentially hired the old man to pretend he wants to marry Reyyan. His instructions are to marry her, and then, once he's outside the Sadoglu compound, he should diverce her. Miran will be there to take her.
Reyyan walks away and suddenly sees Miran in the car in front of her, and her mother coming after her from behind. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to see which path she takes.
Juanita: thanks!!
Yes yes.. Reyyan stumbles her way through the alleys, back to her house from hell...However, cousin AZAT did try to delay the death march.. however, the demon child YAREN is waiting by the gates for-REYYAN.. That itch-bey -chick did everything she could to make sure the family was alerted ….she screamed and hollered and carried on smiling and giggling the whole time …..this heifer is a demon ….yes. the word smug is perfect.
.AZAT tried his Darnest TO WAYLAY Reyyan from entering that house.
Grandpa from hell …lays right into REYYAN.. demanding to know what happened to her husband and he accuses her of making the man leave her??!! The abuse and torture that girl had to suffer at the hands of that man is ridiculous…. he has no heart and no compassion !..
How- the- hack- did -that girl make it out alive …. Throughout the years in that household ? All these years, with all that abuse.??
.ZEHAR Has good mother instincts….. she said she feels that her daughter is in danger….. surrounded by flames!! oh Mama!! you are good..
AZAT goes to the hospital and brings HAZAR home.
.!!.......... I love the way Mama side EYED AZAT… if looks could kill his *** would have been dead..
Azat lets Hazar know ….that all hell has broken loose, and Azat tried to tell Hazar that he knew that Miran was no good from the get-go..dad tells him to squash that sh#$t , nobody has time for it now!!
FYRAT the rat ,tries to call that young kitchen maid …. luckily the young girl was able to text him back and let him know that the sh@#$t has hit the fan…!
. Mirani is the biggest wimp…wussy…… I've ever seen .. oh now !!you would die for her.!! Por favor!!
why you are crying and getting upset now you are the one who put this madness into play..!! you slimy-chump- momma -chunker!!
it's interesting watching Fryat and chump -aszz-Mirani watch from the rafters [basically], knowing that if that family could get their hands on them..OMG!! they would tear him to pieces.. and they be justified.
THEN…the youngest brother and grandpa-Talabani, express their real fears … they ARE bankrupt and that their dealings /bank standing /credit- was dead in the water, and they had lost their money and holdings and property?
I want to know about this FEMICIDE-family tradition! Now,that I think about it ! what happened to Hazar’s first wife?.
? what happened to several of the women in that family? what happened to Nahsu’s wife and daughters??Has this tradition been reinforced or enforced on what/which/who-females/ women in that family??
Whose sisters/ whose daughters /whose aunts? whose female were victims and who carried out the executions..??
Nashua you have a lot of blood on your hands… this issue of femicide, misogynists/misogyny…. runs really deep…in the satanic zone/sardonic Zone. they need to call it the women hating zone….
OMG!!.. WAS MIRANI ‘S MOTHER--- A VICTIM OF THIS SADOLGU’S FAMILY TRADITION??!!
it was funny watching Mirani duck Azat….. I'm gonna have to give Fryat the rat ,some credit for common sense…. OKAY,the family will socalled-'HONOR KILL'...that poor innocent girl….and I love the way he told Mirani ..what the heck do you think was gonna happen??
GT has no other goal in mind other than killing this girl.. it's obvious that he has decided to make her the scapegoat for all his problems, and I think a lot of this is based on his resentment of having her in that house in the first place ..
Hazar pulls her out of the fray of this sadistic madness ..however when they get to the room, he's really not able to change any of the outcomes…he capitulates to the norm of slay- a- female- save- a-males-honor killing..
however, they have a second option …which is to marry her off to someone else… however she's banished from the family home... Which means you just trade her to another jailer… and this other family will take her basically as a slave… servitude….albeit it sexual slave..
As the dust settles youngest brother ,Cihan… runs back in and announces the news that they've been scammed and conned …Hazar begins to realize, that there is a lot more to this than they think.. that there is some serious history with whomever is behind this debacle!! You think!!
Al Qaeda Grandpa tells Hazar… that the marriage,to the old coot-[as referred by the matchmaker] will go on..Otherwise …they can put a bullet to his brain… that sounds fine to me!!
AZAT TRIES TO LIBERATE REYYAN.. from an arrange marriage with someone as old as her Grand father Talabani !!
….. Cousin wants to know why she would stay and marry anybody other than himself?
Reyyan tells him ,she would never marry her cousin…which is saying a lot in turkey/Syria!!!
Later as he leaves ….I feel so bad for cousin AZAT…that man really loves that girl …AS CREEPY AS IT CAN BE…
……then we see she was in her room surrounded by two vampires, Handan and Yarran… that mother is playing chess she said she would ONLY accept….Reyyan MARRYING her son …IS over her dead corpse.. please that can be arranged!!
Melike the young kitchen servant is my girl!! I absolutely love the way she gave CHUMP-Mirani-- the MALFI-EVIL -EYE!!...LOVED IT!!.. That young girl read him like a book!!
Melike ,has moxie and brains, when she called Niger at the hospital and Zehra overheard all ……
I knew that -it's- on -and -popping !!...-the joint -is -lit !!… little Mama knows what's happening..!! oh it's on, it's lit !!
HAZAR / dad ,really did try his best…… helping Reyyan to escape……. however that plan was really halfaszz- hazard…to walk out of your house without your shoes… that's a wreck.
so Fryat the rat and Mirani orchestrate the marriage to the old coot….. I hope it works
It was interesting watching Miran ,the bastard sit with thE matchmaker and hatch this
[fall back] marriage plan..so he paid off the wedding planer and some old coot! to fool GT and get Reyyan out of the house...
Al long as it done by the clergy/Iman [contractual]... then ,if she gets divorced, right after... its not a sin[harm]..no shame..
Because in Islam ,you can have a temporary [MUTA] .marriage.. and I mean real temporary.. like overnight or a few weeks or months... and you will be in a sanctified union... and NOT ADULTEROUS !!
okay... maybe this can work.....because..'Money talks and bullsh#$%t walks.....!! Fyrat the rat.. is cunning....!!
and they know how to play the patriarchal system.....
Thank you Juanita for this recap. There was so much to cover and you did it so quickly and perfectly! Even highlighted the commercial breaks at the most inopportune time!
Two questions I have: Right before Bad Grannie decides to move the coven back to Midyat, she makes a call to someone who does not respond, she gets frustrated and throws down the phone and that was when she makes the decision to go back to her home of record. Who did she call? Miran? Firat? BTW, I think I heard Firat say that his mother Esma, let him know about the move. Interesting.
Second question: While Reyyan and Hazar were talking, did you get the impression that Reyyan did in fact know she was not Hazar’s biological daughter?
Not sure how Miran thought Reyyan would just follow the instructions on the note he sent. I did think it was clever to find a husband and pay him off.
The way Grampa Tyrant and Hazar reacted to the news of the impending financial doom, there may be something and more to the story Bad Grannie has been telling Miran for years.
I like the continued use of the swing to the heavens as part of the love theme. I also really like the theme song. The words are beautiful.
Once last thing. I haven’t seen anyone volunteer to cover tonight’s (Wednesday) episode. I have some time tomorrow morning and will do a quick recap unless someone else is covering.
Many thanks, Halimacandy and VVS, for your interesting comments.
Halimacandy, thanks for the information about Islamic marriage possibilities. As for Hazar's "plan" for Reyyan's escape, yes, it certainly wasn't thought out, but he was responding to events as they were about to happen, so a not well-thought-out plan was the only alternative to Reyyan's staying and either marrying the old guy (of course, that would have been OK, since it was a ruse, but there was no way for Hazar or Reyyan to know that) or being killed by GT. And yes, it's not ideal to run off without shoes, though I do remember novelas (perhaps the start of La Reina del Sur 1?) where a woman takes off her shoes so she can run faster.
VVS, yes, the way GT and Hazar reacted suggest there may be more to the story than just BG's tale of venganza. But I don't think Hazar was nearly as upset about the family's financial ruin as Cihan and GT are. Hazar is focused almost exclusively on Reyyan.
You raise some interesting questions. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your first question. As for the second, my impression is that Reyyan did not know or even suspect that Hazar was not her biological father. However, I can see why you ask. Her saying "And I am your daughter...and you are my father" could be viewed as straightforward responses OR her gently trying to question him. I'm inclined a bit more toward the straightforward interpretation, but I can easily see how it could be taken differently. One thing leaning me toward the straightforward is that Reyyan has seemed so innocent and trusting. I guess we'll see.
And yes, as far as I know, no one has volunteered to recap tonight's episode. It would be wonderful of you to do so!!
Sorry, I don’t have much time to comment today.
Thanks so much, Juanita. Great recap, very helpful. You caught some things I missed.
Yes, Teresa took off her shoes to run in LRDS 1 ep 1
VVS, Bad Grannie made a call to “Aslanim” - My Lion. Do we assume she was calling Miran?
Love your comments, Halimacandy. Some Muslims consider Nikah Mut’ah to be haram. It’s very interesting.
Yaren is disgusting and stupid. I guess she thinks Miran would have treated her differently.
What’s up with Handan. Sometimes she’s sympathetic and other times she’s downright cruel.
Bad Grannie really set the Sadoglus up for total destruction.
dondi356
Thanks so much, Juanita. What a fine recap!!
I just can't understand how, in the 21st Century and in Turkey, not Saudi Arabia, killing a young woman for being rejected by her husband could be done with impunity.
I also wondered how GT and Cihan realized so quickly that, Reyyan having been rejected, the financial arrangements with Miran were also in jeopardy.
They have the cliffhangers down pat, don't they?
I've been wrong before, but I don't think Zeyyan and Miran are going to see each other for a while.
Again, not understanding the traditions, but what BG was saying seemed to indicate that whatever happened with the Sadoglu required the family to leave Midyat and move to Kars. Now that she's gotten what she wants, she's going home.
I'm certainly fascinated by what happened 27 years ago and I doubt we'll find out right away.
Referring to an earlier episode, I'm also pretty sure that Sultan's second child, a boy, was somehow spirited away. It's a telenovela tradition that, when a woman wakes up and is told that her baby was stillborn and taken away for a decent...,the baby and/or child will turn up later.
I would like to say more but I'm about to go into my Zoom Advanced Spanish class.
Thank you Juanita for clarifying the Reyyan/Hazar conversation. I agree with you, she does not know he isn’t her bio dad.
dondi356, thank you for clarifying that My lion is Miran. She has called him this several times before. I am sure his lack of response to her calls moved her to take the family “home.” Bad Grannie and Miran did set the Sadoglu up very, very well. Grampa Tyrant sure did under estimate Azize.
I forgot to comment earlier about how awful Yaren is. I too am taken aback by how hateful Handan was to Reyyan knowing that Yaren is far worse.
novelera, glad your TV issues were resolved. I think the CC on Telemundo is just a mess and that is not your TV. We are definitely all on the same page about Sultana’s “still born” baby going to make a return at some point.
I will do the recap for tonight; it won’t be up until later tomorrow morning. I am not as efficient as the rest of the recap team to have these episodes up so quickly. This TN is too good not to have something to comment on! Hopefully by next week, someone else will volunteer to cover the Wednesday episodes.
Thanks very much, dondi356 and novelera, for your insightful comments.
dondi356, thanks for identifying the person BG was trying to call. From what you say, it certainly sounds as if she was trying to call Miran. Good point about Yaren assuming that Miran would treat her differently. Since BG wants vengeance against the entire Sadoglu family, it's likely that Yaren would be treated just as badly, although if there was extra emphasis on Hazar, perhaps not. And yes, I too am not sure what to make of Handan. As you say, sometimes she's kind, other times vicious.
And I'm glad to see that you, too, remember that dramatic scene from the opening episode of LRDS1.
novelera, I too wondered about the prevalence of so-called honor killings in today's world. According to Wikipedia, it still occurs in most Middle Eastern countries, as well as in European countries with large Middle Eastern immigrant populations. As for the immediate worry of GT and Cihan about the effect of Reyyan's rejection on finances, I am under the impression that one of the reasons GT wanted Miran to marry one of his granddaughters was that it would enhance the Sadoglu family's financial ties. And I agree with what you've predicted about Sultan's supposedly still-born child. Telenovela traditions do tend to persist.
VVS, just to clarify, my TV problems were not with captions. I had no sound at all on any channel. And when I tried to use captions to see if I could muddle through Hercai using captions with no audio, I didn't have those either.
When I rebooted everything, all was fine. I watched Hercai after midnight and had good sound and good captions. I am continually surprised by the variations in the quality of the captions depending on where the viewer is in the U.S. Hercai has mostly been good for me, but Cafe has been bad since the beginning, with the captions showing up a few seconds after the person has begun to speak.
I could probably get by without captions for Hercai because the dubbed Spanish is so clear, but with a couple of mumblers and the Colombian accents, I have depended on them heavily for cafe. And Cafe may soon be falling by the wayside anyway. I'm not happy with the elite Vallejos and the downtrodden Suarez.
I have to admire this recapping team for providing such excellent recaps of this TN. It’s difficult enough to have to watch Reyyan being so unmercifully treated, I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to recount all the sordid details, especially these last two episodes. So muchos kudos to you, Juanita and VVS!
I don’t know how much longer I can tolerate watching Reyyan suffer. These people are living in the 21st century and still practicing customs and traditions of the dark ages...un-freakin-believable! I’m surprised they allow the women to wear pants and don’t make them to coverr their faces!
I would resort to only reading the recaps until things get a bit better, but there are some scenes that are so mesmerizing that I don’t want to miss those. Loved the beautiful shot of Miran and Reyyan reaching out to each other with the bright sun in the background.
I agree with everyone’s comments regarding GT and BG. Hateful, just pain hateful. And I don’t think there is a black heart under BG’s black attire...simply because I don’t think she has a heart...there’s just a black rotten mass.
For some reason, I’ve always had the impression that Reyyan knows that Hazar is not her bio dad, but from reading the comments, I’ll have to pay closer attention to that. And speaking of Hazar, the way he looked at Reyyan with so much love (in her dream) was quite notable. How can a man who can love so deeply be a murderer? I still think that it was not he who killed Miran’s parents; though it is obvious that he had a part in making sure the Aslanbey family was shamed away from Midyat. Can’t wait to find out those details!
All I can say about Handan is that she must be bipolar...or the female version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Yaran is just plain hateful; and Azat is a useless bug.
Muchas gracias, Rgv Chick, for your great comments. I especially liked the snark, e.g.,"And I don’t think there is a black heart under BG’s black attire...simply because I don’t think she has a heart...there’s just a black rotten mass" and "All I can say about Handan is that she must be bipolar...or the female version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." Perfect!
Like you, I can't imagine a loving, decent man like Hazar being a murderer, but I'm glad you pointed out that he may not be entirely blameless, either. I've tended to think of him as totally innocent, the victim of BG's mania. But the conversation between Hazar and Nasuh last night does seem to point to something they were involved in that was bad enough to provoke revenge. I can't wait to find out what that was, though I suspect we may not know for a while. I'm delighted that you're along for the ride.
Hercai: Amor y Venganza - Episode #7
Part 1
Reyyan stops in her shoeless tracks as she hears Zehra call her name. She turns and runs into her mother’s arm. Unfortunately, Zehra’s untimely arrival to save her daughter thwarts Hazar’s plan for Reyyan’s escape. It doesn’t take Grampa Tyrant (GT) long to figure out Reyyan is missing and here comes the chuffer running up the street to force Reyyan and Zehra back into the mansion. Miran has to be physically restrained by Firat from getting out of the car to help Reyyan. Firat tells him to calm down or this plan will not succeed.
Inside the Sadoglu mansion, Zehra is locked away in a storage room and Reyyan is manhandled by GT up the stairs to the waiting Iman and groom for hire. GT tosses Reyyan onto the floor and orders the Iman to start the ceremony. The Iman says he won’t do the ceremony if GT keeps treating “the girl” like that. When the Iman asks Reyyan if she takes the groom for hire as a husband, she bravely says “no.” GT is furious and tells the Iman to ask her again. The Iman stands up to GT and says he will not force her to do something she does not accept, when GT threatens him, the Iman says he is not afraid of GT only God and walks out.
All hell breaks out as the few guests are dismissed and GT pulls a gun out pointing it directly at Reyyan’s head. It is Cirhan who tell GT that he cannot became a murderer at his age and that this killing cannot happen in their home. Hazar stands between GT and Reyyan saying he will be responsible for her punishment. The old Tyrant does not believe Hazar is capable of the correct justice.
It is then that Hazar and Azat catch each other’s expressive eyes. (Everyone in this TN has beautiful, expressive eyes, even GT, under those furry eyebrows). Hazar remembers the conversation where Azat declares his love for Reyyan. Quickly, Hazar says Azat can defend the family honor. Just as quickly, Azat agrees. He takes the gun from GT, amide protests from Handan and Cirhan. GT says that this is the best option and to take this malnacida out to the middle of nowhere and make sure her body is never found!
Meanwhile, back in the getaway car, Miran and Firat see the wedding guests and groom for hire come out, but without Reyyan. The groom for hire tells them that Reyyan refused to marry him, there was nothing he could do. Miran can’t believe the plan was foiled, didn’t she read the note he sent? Firat thanks the gentleman for his help (I hope he still got paid!). Miran says he cannot let GT kill Reyyan. Firat says (again) you knew this was going to happen! It was all part of the venganza. Miran glares at him.
Miran then sees Azat dragging Reyyan out to the car, he tells Firat to follow them! As the cars head out, the head henchman of Bad Grannie shows up at the Sadoglu mansion asking to see GT. The chauffer tells the messenger that it is not a good time, the henchman says, tell him I have a message from the Aslanbey family.
Part 2
While Zehra has been yelling to be let out of the storage room, the chauffer lets GT know that the messenger from the Aslanbey has arrived. GT and Hazar are stunned. GT tells the chauffer to allow him in. The henchman’s message is simple. Azize Aslanbey has returned and is waiting to meet the Sadoglu Tyrant, IF he has to guts to do so.
While this is happening, Handan is having a meltdown about Cirhan allowing Azat to become a killer. Cirhan says that he had no choice but to allow Azat to restore honor to the family. She tells him he has no honor and is gutless, he gives her another well deserved telenovela slap. She is incensed, but he tells her that he is the man of this home now! Handan screams in frustration.
On the road, Azat is taking Reyyan out of the city, Miran and Firat follow behind.
Grampa Tyrant and Hazar walk through the streets of Midyat as Bad Grannie and her henchman walk to the center of the town square. The townsfolk acknowledge BG and welcome her return. A crowd gathers in the square as The Aslambey’s and The Sadoglu’s meet face to face. (We see Reyyan’s guardian angel standing a bit away from the scene taking it all in. We also see that Elif has followed BG and crew and is listening from the crowd).
GT says, you have returned. BG says, hello Nasur. She is quick to let them know that after 27 years of suffering the agony of holding her son bleeding to death in her arms because of the Sadoglu, she is back. She is back big and says she no longer has to wear the black head wrap because justice has been served. She rips the head scarf off and announces that she is back because of her Grandson, Miran! The full scope of the venganza hits old GT hard. Bad Grannie turns on her heels, smiling evilly and marches off in apparent victory. (Sorry, but I was cheering for Bad Grannie is this scene. She was a total bad ass against the women beater/killer GT).
Azat and Reyyan are speeding along the road, Firat passes them and blocks the end of the road off a very tall bridge. Miran gets out of the car, Reyyan is surprised, then angrily tells Azat that she will handle the situation. As she walks toward Miran, he has a look of love and expectation until he sees her look of anger and disgust. Azat is furious and pulls a gun, Firat pulls his gun and Miran pulls his gun. Azat says that one of them is going to die, Miran says he doesn’t care, let him deal with Reyyan, he is there to save her. Reyyan touches Azat’s arm in an effort to have him lower the gun.
Hercai: Amor y Venganza - Episode #7
Part 3
Reyyan tells Azat that she will not go anywhere with him, it ends here. Miran has another look of expectation and reaches out his hand to her. Reyyan tells Miran that he is dead to her. (She says a lot of other things, but I am at work and can’t re-watch or remember everything). As the men argue again, Reyyan runs to the side edge of the bridge and jumps off. Miran (with his own voice in the back ground telling Reyyan that if he couldn’t catch her if she fell, he would follow her to their end) dives off the bridge to save her. Azat and Firat are shocked and spend time searching for them in the river.
Miran finds Reyyan and she continues to fight against him under the water. The current appears very strong but finally we see Miran carrying an unconscious Reyyan out of the river apparently quite downstream from the bridge. He begs her not to die, not now. After a little mouth to mouth, she revives quickly, pushes him away and gets up. He makes not effort to try and explain what happened.
Reyyan starts running with Miran following close behind. She ends up losing one shoe and falls (this is becoming a shoe theme with them) Miran offers his hand to help her up, she says not to touch her and the last time she took his hand look what happened. She asks, why did you do this to me? He doesn’t respond (ugh, men!) she tells him, you don’t even have the courtesy to let me die in peace! He offers to carry her; she tells him there is no way he could carry the weight of the pain she carries in her heart and soul because of him. (You tell him sister!). Reyyan continues limping forward, Miran following.
Azat and Firat are still looking and calling for Miran and Reyyan at the rivers edge.
Finally, one of the kitchen helpers has mercy on Zehra and opens the storage door. She storms up to face Handan and demands to know where Reyyan is. She is shocked to find out that Azat took her to be killed. She begs that Handan or Yaren call Azat to a bring Reyyan back. Yaren complies and talks to Azat, where are you? A tearful Azat says that Reyyan launched herself off the bridge and Miran followed after her. They cannot be found. Zehra grabs the phone and hears the last part of the conversation. She screams NOOOO! and collapse to her knees.
Reyyan and Miran are still walking is rocky wetlands, Reyyan is clearly in pain. She sees a road and a car. She beings to run, Miran follows. The last scene is an overhead of Reyyan reaching the car and opening the door to get in, Miran close on her heels. Let’s hope that Firat is behind the wheel!
RGV Chick, I sure appreciate your astute comments and I thank you for reading the recaps. It has been difficult to recap this archaic way of thinking for those of us in a free modern world. I spent time in the Middle East when I was in the military so I did witness how women were treated in these countries. It is hard to believe that any of these things are common behavior in this day and age but sadly, that is the unfortunate truth.
I am staying focused on the beautiful cinematography and the terrific character development. I think the acting is splendid across the board even from the lowlife characters. Except for that one out of place Spanish ranchera, the music is well done and appropriate for the scenes.
I think you are safe to start watching because my guess is that Miran and Reyyan are going to play dead together for a while. It will be nice to see how he wins back Reyyan’s heart and most importantly trust.
For today’s recap, I was hoping to do it more justice, but of course, got called in to cover a meeting at work that I was not planning on. It is all good, as long as you all skim past my many spelling and grammar mistakes!
WS:

Thank you Anonymous at 2:38 pm (is that you HALIMACANDY? 😊) for the great comments and extra dialogue especially between the Iman and GT. I did not catch everything that was said between him and GT so your take was helpful.
I hope that Reyyan does stop trying to kill herself. That is a taboo in many religions. I hope she and Miran find a way to get back at both GT and BG. Maybe working together and with Sultana on a side attack of revenge, those two will get what they deserve and Reyyan and Miran will live happily ever after.
The meeting of the families was like the showdown at the OK Corral! We just needed that spaghetti western music!
VVS, you put MY Wednesday quickies in the shade! Thanks so much for the excellent recap with side comments that were spot on.
Well, Reyyan's dive off the bridge would have been more startling if Telemundo hadn't shown it about 300 times in the previews they insist on inserting into the novela you're currently watching.
My fingers are crossed that it's NOT Firat in the car. I want Bad Grannie to think her "lion" died because of her vengeance. OTOH I hate to see Hazar and Zehra suffer.
Juanita and I had some back and forth emails, and apparently so-called "honor killings" do happen in Turkey.
This is definitely one thrilling and well-done novela. This would be my third. I watched El Sultán and Todo por mi Hija.
I think even Yaren did not want her cousin killed. There were several scenes of her, maybe...maybe, a bit sad she'd not told what she heard.
Yes, the OK Corral scene was odd. When BG sent the guy with the message, I thought they'd arrange a meeting inside. Instead, the whole town, or at least that neighborhood saw it. From the cheers, it sounds like the neighbors are on the side of the Aslanbeys. By the way, that messenger guy BG sent is a hottie!
Don’t apologize, VVS, this was a wonderful recap and you covered everything important with special flair. Thanks for taking on the extra recap this week.
“chuffer” I haven’t heard that term in a while. lol
Bad grannie posse. Did we all think OK Corral? What a statement Azize made. Innocent little Elif got an earful and eyeful of the OG.
Had to laugh at the Turkish Mexican standoff between Azat, Miran and Firat.
Why does Miran think Reyyan would automatically jump into his arms? He thinks too highly of himself. I guess that one night wasn’t good enough to overcome what happened the next morning.
It’s shocking that honor killings still happen. I think the characters in this TN are somewhat reminiscent of what we saw in El Sultan/Magnificent Century. Light years different than Todo por mi Hija.
Don’t know, I thought Yaren was getting off on Reyyan’s situation. Sick and horrid.
Firat behind the wheel? Could be. I just hope it’s someone who won’t cause more harm to Reyyan.
dondi356
Thanks for the great comments novelera! Oh please, your Wednesday quickies were always fabulous, we did not have as much interesting material to cover in Loli either so it was easier to do a quickie!
Well, the only reason I want it to be Firat in the car is I do think he is loyal to Miran and would take care of the secret. I don’t think it is him. How in the world would he know where to find them on a long lonely road miles from the bridge?
Wasn’t it Miran’s original plan anyway to secret Reyyan away after the marriage and quick divorce from the old guy? I bet he has a safe house all ready picked out and ready to go. Bad Grannie needs to suffer the loss of her lion. I sure hope Miran doesn’t have BG GPS in his shoe or something. She did find the cabin.
There are a few hotties in this TN!
Hi dondi356! Turkish/Mexico stand off! That is funny.
I thought Yaren was enjoying the show as well. Yes, I am done with Reyyan getting kicked around and abused. Miran needs some humbling and definitely needs to grovel, a lot!
I'm coming a bit late to the party, but I'm just as much in awe of your recap as the previous commenters! Wow!!
Yes, that certainly was a showdown at the OK Corral moment between the families, followed by an equally tense one with all parties having guns drawn.
And yes, VVS, I'm still not sure how BG knew where the cabin was. And if she knew that, will she also know where Miran is now? I sure as heck hope not!
I confess that when BG's messenger first appeared, I thought he was an alum from the Hunky Bar. Yum!
And yes, novelera, it's a pity that Telemundo completely spoiled the impact of Miran's jumping off the bridge by showing it in quickie previews over and over again. I'm hoping that that's the last of their giveaways.
Anyone wanting to know how widespread so-called honor killings are should take a look at the Wikipedia entry. Yes, Turkey still seems to be afflicted with them, but it's by NO means the only country.
The Hunky Bar alumni! Good one Juanita. I just watched the episode again and did indeed see that eye candy and a car that looks a lot like the one Firat was driving.
The whole honor killing is unfortunately a reality. Hopefully we move forward from this awful line and on to other less horrible things. dondi356 warned us at the beginning of the TN that we might be in for an uncomfortable ride.
Thanks all for the comments. I won’t promise a recap every Wednesday (stupid work) but if no one else jumps in to help, I will try to fill that gap once in a while.
VVS, GREAT RECAPPP. IVE NEVER COMMEMTED ON THIS NAN PAGE BEFORE
BUT THIS IS A REAL TREAT.
I've never seen such abuse from
Anybody that claims to love their
Children. That ol guy is completely out of his ever loving mind.
When is his sons who are almost ready for social security gonna stop letting their ol grumpy daddy who is on social security slap them
Around. I know every country have their customs but this ridiculous. And so very sad. The abuse of the women. And that ol coot is blaming Reyyan for what he did years ago.
I can't stand her cousin yaran. A
Spoiled brat if there ever was one.
I'd like to see somebody slap her backwards.
I'm attracted to this show for one reason and one reason only, the chemistry between Reyyan n miran. They light up the screen with that
Hot sparkle everytime he finds a reason to get close to her. He pull
Her close and she acts like she dont like. I know she likes it cuz I like seeing it. Lol. This is a fun show except for the insanity, that ol woman and that old man, bad Grandma Bad Grandpa. I understand her being upset because her child, daughter was murdered raped and her son was killed, all that hatred. It kind of ruins lives. Let it go cuz it's destroying everybody else's life. Misery loves company.
Thank you VVS.
