TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#2): Hercai: Amor y Venganza, Café con Aroma de Mujer, y más: Week of July 19, 2021
Here's Page 2 for the week. The current evening telenovelas are as follows (all times are Eastern Daylight Time):
• 9-10PM—Hercai: Amor y Venganza**
• 10-11PM—Café con Aroma de Mujer**
**Telemundo's web site now claims that Café con Aroma de Mujer will start at 10:05 pm every day this week. That agrees with what we've been seeing, namely, Hercai has been running over past 10 pm. That will apparently continue to happen.
Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation. Since discussions of all the Telemundo novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for.
By common agreement, this group DOES NOT discuss previews, trailers, or any other plot information not found in a current or past episode of the current production. Spoilers WILL be removed by the admin. This includes reference to earlier productions of the story, and even the original novel. Thanks for your cooperation!
Recap may be another short one. Had Zoom book club tonight. By the way, if anyone is looking for a FABULOUS book in English, I recommend Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell.
Hercai - #23 – Parte 1 de 2
Nasuh yells at Cihan: “Why would Yaren do something against her family?” Cihan doesn’t quite say why but says he fears she’ll end up worse than Reyyan. We see Nasuh looking very sad. He asks Cihan who he has in mind. Cihan replies: “The son of Pachá. The family thought Yaren was engaged before, but I know they’d be interested. I’ll send them a message. Nasuh knows of the young man and is pleased. [novelera is hoping for facial warts.]
Reyyan is refusing to sit at the table with Miran, says he’s caused her to lose her appetite. She finally says to all of them that he’s not her husband. He stares at her, not liking this.
Gonul keeps trying to call Miran. Elif comes in and asks: “Didn’t your meeting with your friends work out for you? All of your secrets are resulting in my being sent out of the country.”
When Melike’s grandfather is shocked at what Reyyan has said, she goes on to say that it was a fake wedding. Miran tells her “enough!” She looks him in the eye. “Am I lying, then? What are you doing here?” Miran: “I came for you.”
After what Reyyan said Abuelo wants Miran to leave. He invokes some law of hospitality and stays. Reyyan jumps up and says that then she’ll leave. He runs after her telling her there’s nowhere she could go; their destiny is the same. She tells him she’s stopped loving him. Somehow they end up on the ground together. Then she’s bitten by a scorpion! Abuelo tells Miran to bring her inside. They are experienced in treating scorpion bites and have an antidote. As she lies there on the ground, she speaks the truth: Everything that happens to her is his fault!
Abuelo tells Miran to calm down. It will be a long night, but she’ll get rid of the venom.
It seems that Azat and Yenar are friends, a bit like Miran has the son of an employee as his friend. Azat tells him, with tears in his eyes, how Reyyan turned him down. He says he only wants to see her once more and for her to look him in the eye and say she doesn’t love him. Yaner knows where she is and says he’ll take him.
Miran listens to Reyyan more or less talking in her sleep saying not to leave her. [By the expression on Miran’s face, I think she’s referring to when he left her in the cabin.] He puts the ring he gave her at the wedding on her finger and tells her she’s his.
Firat is remembering his encounters with Yaren. He says out loud he should have known it was her. A spider comes up behind him. It’s BG. She wants to know where Miran is. She seems to sense he’s hiding something.
BG then has an encounter with Gonul where she sneers at Gonul’s “plan”. [I think she’s referring to the self-stabbing.] BG tells her to stop talking that way; Reyyan will not come back to this house.
Abuelo tells Miran that he can see that he loves Reyyan. He tells him that the important thing is to love with great bravery and nobility.
Hercai - #23 – Parte 2 de 2
Azat arrives. Abuelo orders the two of them outside and they begin to fight.
Handan is on the phone with Sehriyar and snarls that she should not call her again until she’s found out what’s in Azize’s room. [Dolls with pins stuck in their abdomens? Stuffed dead sons?]
Outside of Melike’s grandparents’ house Azat, calmer now, asks Miran why, if he followed her here, he hurt her. Why the vengeance against her? He goes on very tenderly to say that Reyyan is like un hermoso gorrión (beautiful sparrow), timid and fragile. “You cut off her wings.” He mentions some memories of when they were children. Miran listens to every word, seemingly moved by what Azat is saying. Miran says he didn’t know it would go so far. Azat tells him “You can’t play with love. You’re paying the price. She’ll never forgive you.”
Azat has fallen asleep. It’s morning and Miran goes inside, ignoring Melike telling him not to. Reyyan wakes up. When he says she seems recovered, she replies that nothing could be as venomous as he and his grandmother. Then she rushes out and finds Azat. Miran yells that she doesn’t love Azat. Reyyan says that she needs time to think, which gives Azat some hope.
BG rips into Firat and says that, if Reyyan comes back there, it would be his fault. When Firat leaves she tells herself she’s going to cause a scandal that will really upset Miran. Then she calls a lawyer and says that they’ll now get rid of the Sadoglu problem. She wants all of Midyat to be aware of their fall. She gets a gloating look on her faces and says that Nasuh’s time has come. She’ll dishonor his name and then take all his wealth.
Reyyan notices the ring on her finger and tries to get it off. But her fingers are a bit swollen from the venom. She tries and tries to get it off. Miran says that God meant it to be there.
Gul confesses that she told Miran where Reyyan went.
We find out that Yaner has had a thing for Yaren and his mother arranged to get him away.
Hazar goes after Reyyan.
Elif tells BG that, if she sends her to London, she’ll no longer have a grandchild named Elif. BG caves, but says Elif will have to tell her every move she makes. Elif sort of nods, but I don’t really see her obeying.
Gonul: “You only protect Elif. Is there something I should know?” [Viewerville’s heads nod vigorously.]
Melike tells Reyyan that she saw how much Miran loves her as he watched over her. “Why don’t you tell him you know that he’s married and give him a good slap?”
Reyyan comes out and tells Miran to leave. He responds that he left her once and he, gesturing at Azat, came. He says that Gonul almost died. Reyyan: “What happened to her?” Miran: “She was stabbed, and she says you did it.”
What a wonderful recap novelera! This was the first episode in a while that was a bit less dark and intense. Your snark o meter was on full power! [novelera is hoping for facial warts.] and, not call her again until she’s found out what’s in Azize’s room. [Dolls with pins stuck in their abdomens? Stuffed dead sons?] Made me laugh over my cup of coffee!
The fight scene outside of Melike’s grandparents house was comical! The tiny abuela holding back Miran was too funny.
I know Reyyan has every right to be hateful to Miran, but I thought she was darn right rude to the Abuelo’s who graciously opened their home to her not knowing all the dark details. I did like the Abuelo’s guidance to Miran that love is about great bravery and nobility. For someone like Miran, who knows nothing about love, this is a good solid foundation to strive for.
“We find out that Yaner has had a thing for Yaren and his mother arranged to get him away.” Thank goodness! Yaner seems to be a nice young man and he is dodging a bullet staying far, far away from Yaren.
BG sure does have a soft spot for Elif. As dondi356 said in yesterday’s post, we have a long way to go in this dizi and many more big reveals. BTW dondi356, thank you for the Turkish lesson yesterday! I learned a new word. 😊
I hope tonight we get the marriage issue out of the way. It is driving me crazy that Reyyan hasn’t done just what Melike suggested, call Miran out and give him a good slap!
Thanks for doing a doubleheader this week novelera and I appreciate the book recommendation as well!

Thanks VERY much, novelera, for this excellent recap. You cover everything clearly and concisely, and you also manage to include some terrific snark and even a bit of Spanish vocab. Wow!
OK, so Yaner is Azat's long-time friend. Since Yaner was/is also crazy about Yaren, I'm surprised he remains friends with Azat, his rival (or one of them). And how does Yaner know where Reyyan is? (I keep writing "Yaren" when I mean "Yaner." I wonder why the writers gave these two characters such anagrammatic names.)
Even Gonul is beginning to wonder what BG is hiding (because BG is so protective of Elif). Perhaps if Gonul expresses this question to her mother, Sultana might add some more to what we know of BG's history.
I was relieved when Miran told Reyyan that Gonul was stabbed and claimed that Reyyan did it. That should finally get the marriage issue out in the open. It's about time!
Thanks for the kind words. A lot happened last night, but I was pressed for time and was concise.
Juanita, Yaner and Azat would not be rivals. Yaner is interested in Yaren, Azat's sister. I assumed that somehow Yaner got the information about where Melike and Reyyan went from one of the other servants. There might have actually been such a scene that was cut by Telemundo.
Even Melike wonders why in blazes Reyyan doesn't tell Miran that she knows he's married to Gonul. She was so determined not to do so that I'm not that positive it will come out tonight.
VVS, I see your point about Reyyan perhaps seeming rude to Melike's grandparents. But she was reacting to the outrageous arrival of Miran, claiming to be her husband, after she'd told him she would never forgive him and even left town.
@Anonymous at 6:44 AM. Regular recapping requires volunteers to write them. There were only ever two volunteers to do so. When recaps were posted, there were very few and sometimes only one comment for Cafe con Aroma de Mujer. We expected more interest because a lot of viewers really like William Levy. I was doing some recaps. The other recapper and I agreed that there seemed to be very little interest in the novela and stopped doing recaps.
Thanks, deb, for the interesting news about where Malverde is being filmed. I was REALLY looking forward to it when Fernando Colunga was going to play the title role. I think I read somewhere that it will be Pedro Fernandez. I think he is the singer of rancheras. I may have seen bits of a novela where he acted, maybe a comedy one? Not sure. I will certainly watch the beginning of it and get a feeling for whether I'll enjoy it.
Does your posting this mean we will get you back, deb, from the Ottoman Empire?
Yikes, I can't believe I made that dumb remark about Azat and Yaner being rivals! And, alas, I did so after I drank my coffee, so I can't claim that lack of caffeine clouded what's left of my brain. Oh well...
So Novelera, IYHO, my time would be better spent watching the Guy Ecker version?
I loved the Eduardo Yáñez version, but since I really like Guy Ecker (La Mentira !!) I had his version on my watch list for quite awhile.
Because of a good amount of interest in Hercai: Amor y Venganza and plenty of comments on that novela, I let Cafe sit on my list of DVR recordings for a loooong while. Since there haven't been any other programs either in English or Spanish that have caught my attention, I started catching up.
I have not seen any other version of this plot, not the one with Guy Ecker nor the one with Eduardo Yañéz, so I have no basis of comparison.
I am mildly interested at this point and am up to Epi #41. I could do without all the singing. She has a very nice voice, but long scenes of her singing just end up boring me.
I have some thoughts about aspects of Cafe that I don't like, but I don't want to mention them in case someone is reading this who wants to begin the novela from the start.
Thank you, novelera, for recapping even though you were pressed for time. You covered all the important stuff and added some snark and some Spanish, too.
“[novelera is hoping for facial warts.]” lol, dondi hopes, too.
I laughed at that fight scene at the grandparents’ house, too.
Very disappointed that Reyyan gave Azat false hope, even if she did it to spite Miran.
I checked the Turkish ep and there was no missed scene where Yaner got info on Reyyan. Just a scene where Azat asked Yaner if he knew where Reyyan was, and he said “yes”. That’s it.
BTW, Yaner’s name is "Caner" in the original, it’s pronounced “Janer” in Turkish. They decided to translate that to Yaner. I guess that’s closer to the Spanish pronunciation.
dondi356
So Gonul was stabbed…and I supposedly did it, Reyyan asks Miran, you came to find out if it is true? Miran starts to explain, no… I… but Reyyan interrupts, I see the Aslanbeys are liars! [understatement] Aren’t you tired of all those lies, she asks? [he’s getting there]. Reyyan is angry, you should be ashamed, she says, and you accuse me of stabbing her! Azat speaks up, I can’t take it, this idiot comes here… And Azat is interrupted by Hazar’s arrival.
[There was a cut scene where Gul admits to her mother that she told Miran where Reyyan went. That’s why Hazar showed up. Also, Yaner overhears that his mom took him out of school and sent him to the military so he could get over Yaren.]
Hazar makes a beeline to Miran and grabs him by the collar. Why are you chasing after my daughter? What the hell are you doing here? Miran answers matter of fact, I came to get Reyyan. Hazar replies, who do you think you are?! What right do you have?! Azat tells his uncle Miran is not worth it.
Hazar lets go of Miran and turns on Azat, and what are you doing here?! I came to talk to Reyyan, Azat answers. Hazar can’t believe it. He sent her away so she could have some peace, but you circle her like vultures. Melike’s grandparents come outside. Hazar is going crazy.
Miran reminds Hazar that he entrusted Reyyan to him. Hazar shouts, that promise is over! It’s over! He asks Miran, do you know what the love of a child feels like? It grips your heart because a parent always carries their child in their soul, in the saftest, most sacred and true part of them. [hmmm…]
Hazar continues, you fooled me, Miran. I trusted you with my daughter and you said you loved her. I gave you my greatest gift in her white wedding dress. I did it so you could keep her safe, to protect her, so you could love her like no one else…but you destroyed her! You knocked her down and left her! Was that not enough?! When will you stop?!
The camera scans everyone’s faces, while Hazar catches his breath. You’re playing with fire, Miran Aslanbey [who is really a Sadoglu], and you’re going to get burned. I’ve run out of patience. Stay away from my daughter and my family. And with that, Hazar tells Reyyan they are leaving. Reyyan and Melike kiss the abuelos’ hands and thank them. Hazar apologizes to them.
Miran shouts after Hazar, my father was never able to love me! The Sadoglus stop and turn. Miran says, he didn’t have the chance. I have no idea what a father’s love is like [you just saw it, Miran,] because I was so young when I lost him. He shouts, that’s on you, Hazar Sadoglu! I grew up without a father! Answer this! Whose heart was hardened? Hazar tells Reyyan, Melike and Azat to go to the cars.
Hazar approaches Miran and tells him, I already explained what happened. If you want to keep hating me after my confession, go ahead. I hate you, too. From now on, you are my mortal enemy, Miran Aslanbey. I don’t want you near my daughter again. Hazar walks away.
As they drive, Hazar asks if Reyyan is okay. She is. He reprimands Melike. We trusted you and sent Reyyan with you. Miran shows up and you didn’t call? Reyyan steps in to defend Melike. Melike apologizes. She tells Hazar she was scared at first when Miran showed up but then he took care of her after she was stung by a scorpion. Hazar is ticked, so he’s a hero now? He took care of her? He only hurts her. He’s a bastard, invasive like the plague. We try to get rid of him but he follows us everywhere. When will this end?!
Hazar gives Reyyan his phone and tells her to call her mother. Tell her you are okay and tell her to pack our things. As soon as we get to the mansion, we are all leaving that place.
dondi356
Miran thinks back as he drives, Reyyan saying “he’s not my husband” “it was a fake wedding”. He thinks about the scorpion sting, how he took care of Reyyan and she said, “everything that happens to me is your fault!” “don’t leave me like this, I promise I haven’t done anything wrong” Miran vows, I’ll never leave you. I won’t!
Miran also thinks about what Hazar said, “if you want to continue hating me after my confession, go ahead…you’re my mortal enemy…” and back to Reyyan again, “all the Aslanbeys are liars. Aren’t you tired of the lies?” “you accuse me of stabbing her?” Miran starts shouting in his car, Gonul! I swear you’re going to pay!
Zehra greets Reyyan upon her return. Handan and Yaren look on from the balcony. Handan is pissed and Yaren is all smiles. Gul greets her sister and says, my trick worked. Did Miran bring my sister back, dad? No, I did, Hazar replies. Gul asks if he is mad at her. He says never but gently tells her to stop misbehaving and don’t talk to Miran. Hazar asks Zehra if everything is ready. She wants a moment to speak with Hazar.
Nasuh and Cihan return to the konak. Nasuh is not happy to see Reyyan. When will we be rid of you, he shouts?! Azat steps between Nasuh and Reyyan. Gul steps in, too, Grandpa don’t scream, it scares me. He asks Gul to stay out of this and Melike hurries Gul out of there.
Nasuh starts in with Reyyan again, haven’t you caused enough trouble? Azat holds his grandfather back. Nasuh asks him how long will you defend this harlot? I don’t want her here! Reyyan speaks up, don’t worry, I’m leaving.
Zehra hesitates to tell Hazar. She finally says, we can’t leave. We can’t set one foot outside this house. I tried to tell you a few days ago but I couldn’t. We could lose Reyyan. Hazar is at a loss. Why? My father says horrible things to Reyyan! She won’t have to listen to it anymore. Zehra comes clean, your father told me if you left, he would tell Reyyan she is not your biological daughter. Hazar can’t believe his father would stoop so low [really?] He can’t do this to our little girl!
Nasuh is still carrying on in the courtyard. Handan tells Azat to forget about Reyyan. Hazar comes storming out. Enough! Leave her alone! He tells Nasuh, I brought her here and I’m going to take her away! You will never touch her again. He wants to talk to his father alone. Reyyan asks what’s going on. Hazar says don’t ask now, but we will soon leave.
Hazar calls his father out on his threats. Nasuh says it wasn’t a threat. If you leave, I will tell everyone that Reyyan is not your daughter. You have raised that girl into a life of lies. I’ll do it Hazar! Hazar says, how could you stoop so low. Nasuh replies, no one will take my firstborn or my granddaughter.
Hazar tells his father, you’ve forgotten what love is! Loving your family means wishing them well and happy even if they are not with you. It’s not about keeping them prisoners! Why are you doing this?! Your tyranny killed my love for you! You ripped my father from my heart! I’ll never forgive you!
Hazar continues, my wife and my daughters are what matter most to me. I am taking my family and leaving right now. We are going as far away as possible, even if it kills you. Hazar goes to leave but Nasuh stops him. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. And with that, Nasuh hurries off and shouts for Reyyan. And Hazar hurries after his father. Leave her alone, dad!
dondi356
Nasuh says to Reyyan, your father has something to tell you. What happened, Reyyan asks, is something wrong? Hazar’s lips tremble as he starts, I’ve been preparing for years to tell you something, but every time I saw your beautiful face, I didn’t have the heart to tell you. I couldn’t love you more. I’m always thinking of what else I could do to deserve your love. When you were born, your mother handed you to me, and you filled even the darkest parts of me. I said, “Hazar, take a deep breath and be Reyyan’s breath. You need to live for her.” I’ve always tried doing that, you know that, right?
Of course I do, dad, Reyyan replies. I’ll always be grateful for the life you gave me. When I hug you, the world stops. I feel like I can breathe. You are all I care about, that’s why I want the four of us to leave together. Hazar sadly informs Reyyan, we’re not leaving. We are staying, I’m so sorry. Reyyan responds, but you said…. She looks at her mom.
Nasuh shouts at Reyyan, as long as you’re here, no one will have peace! Leave! Hazar shouts at his father, my daughter isn’t leaving this house! We are not leaving! Hazar shouts so everyone can hear, from this moment forward, I won’t allow anyone in this mansion to say a single word about my family! After today, keep your damn stories to yourselves!
Hazar warns Cihan to keep his family away. If Reyyan sheds a single tear, the responsible person will have to deal with me! Understand?! I’m tired of all this! Close up on Yaren, hmmm. Hazar walks away. Reyyan asks her mom, we’re not leaving? Zehra responds, don’t ask any questions, and she runs off.
Yaren notices the ring on Reyyan’s finger [and I’m sure she will have something to say about that.]
Hazar bursts into the barn and has a massive meltdown. He’s screaming and banging things around. Zehra rushes in and tries to calm him. I can’t take it anymore, Hazar cries out, I can’t take it! I’ve never asked for much in life. When my heart was devastated and I didn’t want to keep living, Reyyan appeared and revived my heart. She filled my life with joy! That’s why I made her my daughter, so no one else could hurt her. But I couldn’t protect her like a real father would!
Hazar falls to his knees, I’m a bad father! My little girl deserves someone much better than me. Zehra tells him, listen, anyone can call themselves a father, but you’ve more than earned the title. Your heart is our home, not this mansion. As long as you are with us, we don’t need anything else. Zehra holds Hazar as he cries.
Elif is out on the balcony, looking at the ring Azat dropped and she thinks back to their encounter.
Firat is sitting in the courtyard when Miran blasts open the konak door. He’s shouting for Gonul. Oh, no, what now, Firat says. I laughed at Elif’s understatement, “he looks upset”. Unsuspecting Gonul smiles happily at her husband as she walks towards him. He grabs her by the throat. What are you doing?! Teaching you not to mess with me, Miran replies as he chokes her.
Firat tries to separate them. Elif runs from the balcony, she calls for her aunt. Everyone rushes outside. Miran asks Gonul, were you this scared when you stabbed yourself? Did you think you won the battle? Answer me! What were you thinking?!
Firat tells Miran to control himself. Miran’s not listening—he shouts at Gonul, how did it feel?! Firat finally breaks Miran’s grip. Let go of me, Miran shouts and grabs Gonul’s neck again. Gonul answers, I swear I didn’t do anything. Miran’s not buying it, Gonul, don’t try me! Stop lying! I knew something was strange! Gonul gasps, you believe that Sadoglu woman but not your own wife. Miran replies, don’t you dare say another word about Reyyan!
dondi356
Sultan shows up and manages to free Gonul from Miran’s grip. She pushes him away, let go of my daughter! What is your problem?! Miran shouts, I don’t know how someone can go as far as to hurt themselves! Sultan fires back just in time for Azize to walk up and hear, listen Miran, I won’t allow my daughter to go through what your mother went through. Do you hear? I won’t allow you to treat my daughter the same way your father treated your mother! Uh, oh….
Miran asks, what is she talking about? [notice Sahriyar lurking in the background] Azize speaks up, it’s nonsense, she’s upset. Miran yells at his Bad Grannie, what is she talking about? Sultan smirks and waits for the answer. Azize repeats, she’s talking nonsense, like always, don’t listen to her. [notice Sahriyar taking advantage of the commotion to sneak upstairs.]
Enough, Miran shouts, you’re all lying! You are trying to drive me mad! Miran hits Azize’s hand away. Sultan is enjoying this. I don’t understand anything, Miran shouts and leaves. Gonul calls out, Miran, no! Azize tells Firat to go after Miran.
Outside the konak, Miran is fighting one of his panic attacks. He shouts at Firat, I’m not okay, not at all! I feel like I’m drowning at the bottom of a swamp. The more I try to fix things, the more people I drag in with me! Firat says, enough, this is your anger talking. Miran yells, I feel like I’m losing my mind! I don’t know what’s real or what’s fake! I don’t know what to believe! He heads back towards the konak and yells, how many more lies are you hiding, Gonul! Tell the truth!
Firat holds him back and says, come with me, try to calm down. Let’s take a walk and cool down. Then we can talk about whatever you want.
Everyone is tending to the shaken Gonul, who is worrying, he’s going to divorce me. Sultan says he won’t. Gonul adds, he’ll leave me to be with that woman.
Azize calls out, Sultan! Come here. Sultan tells Azize, I can’t leave my daughter like this. Bad Grannie shouts, Sultan, that’s an order! Sultan approaches Azize, and knowing what’s coming, she blocks a big cachetada coming her way.
Enough, Sultan says, those days are over, I won’t stand for it. Have you lost your mind, Azize asks, how dare you tell Miran about his mother? Sultan shoots back, you’ve crossed every line to avenge your son. You’re not the only mother here, suegra. I’m also willing to do anything for my daughter. You ruined her life. She warns Azize, I won’t stay silent any longer, understand? Azize looks worried.
Reyyan is in her room, looking at Miran and Gonul’s wedding pic. She talks to the absent Miran, I don’t even have a home because of you. You lied looking me in the eyes. Yaren the Yılan enters and Reyyan folds the pic. [Reyyan should keep her door locked]
The snake starts in, wow Reyyan, you always find a way back to the mansion. I admire your persistence. She looks Reyyan’s hand and says, I see you got your ring back. [I’m surprised she didn’t try to snatch the pic] Unbelievable… you’re capable of wearing a married man’s ring. That’s how low you are. [please, Reyyan, throw the bitch out!, I hate recapping her] and not only that, you’re also being cruel to my brother [as if she cares].
The snake continues, you know what, Reyyan? You deserve everything bad that happens to you. That’s why I don’t feel sorry for you. Reyyan finally says, leave, Yaren. Leave or this will end badly. Oh, I’m so scared, Yaren mocks. I was leaving anyway, I can’t stand looking at your face. Reyyan tries to remove the ring from her finger but it’s still stuck.
Firat is chasing Miran through the streets. Miran mutters, she’s got the wrong idea. That’s why she didn’t come with me, she went with her dad. I need to talk to Reyyan and tell her I didn’t suspect her. Firat tells him, you can’t go to the Sadoglus every time you get angry.
dondi356
Meanwhile, Reyyan has finally removed the ring. She heads for the konak door and tosses the ring out just as Miran and Firat turn the corner to see it. Reyyan walks back in quickly. Miran and Firat continue towards the Sadoglu konak.
Miran picks up the ring. She threw it out, he tells Firat, do you know what that means? Firat says that’s enough, let it be. Let’s go someplace where you can clear your mind. Clear my mind, Miran asks? My mind is a tornado. I’m not going anywhere until Reyyan comes out that door. I won’t allow anymore misunderstandings. At least Firat persuades Miran to wait at the end of the street so they won’t be seen.
Sahriyar is rifling through Azize’s room. The things I do for money, she says. She’s not finding anything useful. Azize enters the room. God help me, Sahriyar mumbles. Azize asks, what are you doing here? I was told to clean the rooms, Sahriyar answers. Didn’t they tell you only Esma is allowed to enter, Azize asks? Sahriyar says she was confused and it won’t happen again. Azize tells her to get out.
Azize thinks about Gonul. She picks up a picture of Gonul’s dad when he was a boy. She cries and says, Ahmed… I’m sorry for sacrificing Gonul for the greater good. I let her suffer the fire of love in her poor heart. I’m sorry. But I have to ruin the bastards who ruined me. if there was any other way… My soul aches for having done this, but if Miran had married anyone else, we’d never have revenge. Azize says she will make it right once the Sadolgus are destroyed by one of their own. I promise, son. Oh, Gonul, my beautiful little girl.
Reyyan is moping around the konak. She doesn’t understand why they aren’t leaving. Zehra suggests a shopping trip to forget their problems. Azat overhears and offers to take them. Zehra politely declines but Azat worries that Miran might show up. Reyyan says, will we continue to live in fear of this man? Okay, Azat says, I don’t want to bother you. Reyyan replies she won’t let any man bother her.
Miran and Firat are still lurking down the street. Firat is getting impatient, what if she doesn’t come out? Miran says if she doesn’t come out, he will wait until dark to go in.
Handan asks where Zehra and daughters are going. Shopping. She congratulates Zehra, you’re taking your daughter to the square after what happened? If I were you, I wouldn’t set foot outside the mansion. Zehra answer, luckily I’m not like you. The person who humiliated her should be ashamed. Why should we, Zehra asks? She adds that Handan should be ashamed, too, for making inappropriate comments.
Cihan shows up and tells Handan they sent a message to Pasha about asking for Yaren’s hand. Zehra and Reyyan take note and leave. Handan raises her objections, but Cihan says that Yaren has lost the chance to decide for herself.
Miran’s persistence pays off when Reyyan, Zehra and Gul leave the konak. Gul notices Miran right away but he gives her a quiet sign.
Zehra and Reyyan talk about Yaren being married off. Reyyan thinks it’s unfair, they don’t even know each other. Gul comments, I bet Yaren’s novio won’t be as handsome as Miran. I bet his eyes won’t be like the honey I have at breakfast, and he probably won’t smell as good when you hug him either. [IIRC, novelera wished for a wart on his nose]
Miran takes off after the ladies. He will find a way to speak with Reyyan.
Handan enters Yaren’s room. Yaren asks what did Reyyan do now? Not Reyyan, Handan says, you’re the biggest troublemaker in the konak. And now it has returned to torment you. Handan drops the bomb, your grandfather has arranged your marriage. He sent the Pasha a message and your father says to dress for the occasion. Yaren is upset and says grandpa wouldn’t give me to just anyone.

Yaren runs to see Nasuh. She turns on the waterworks and kneels at his side. Don’t look at me like that, she says. He moves her hand away. She begs, please don’t give me away before you hear me out. You betrayed us, he tells her, you went behind my back to conspire with the enemy. Yaren pleads, I sacrificed myself for my brother. Please don’t punish me, she cries. Don’t force me to marry. Don’t push me away. Nasuh replies, you were always my favorite. I always prioritized you. I put you above all else. You were the apple of my eye. He stands up and looks down at Yare, nothing excuses your betrayal. You will be married and that’s final. He leaves. Yaren sobs for real.
Hanife rushes into the kitchen with konak gossip. Yaner brings groceries in and hears. Nasuh is marrying off Yaren. Yaner is upset. Nigar tells her to stop gossiping and get back to work.
Yaner confronts his mother. You said you withdrew me from school because you couldn’t afford it. Was it because of Yaren? Is that why you enlisted me in the military? Her non answer is an answer for Yaner. He tells his mom, no matter where I go, I’ll have to endure this hell inside of me. The fire in my heart remains and my feelings torment me. [I think being married to Yaren would be torment…]
Nigar advises her son to put out the fire. Easy for you to say, mom, but don’t worry. I won’t talk about my feelings to anyone. No one will know.. but don’t ask for something impossible. Yaner cries and his mother hugs him.
Miran and Firat continue stalking the Sadoglu women. Gul keeps turning around to look. Firat says, this is not right. We are acting like teenagers following this girl. Miran says, I have to talk to Reyyan, don’t you understand? I have no choice. Firat tries to reason with him but Miran doesn’t want to hear it. He asks Firat to leave him alone. Either I wait for Reyyan to be alone or I walk into the mansion. Firat chooses the better idea to follow them.
The ladies are done with their shopping but Gul laments, she didn’t get a red balloon. Zehra explains that the balloon man is at a wedding today. Reyyan tells her sister that they can go shopping tomorrow for a balloon. I’m tired, let’s go home now. Gul sits in protest, I won’t walk any further if I don’t have a red balloon. She tells Reyyan, if you are tired, you can go home. Mom and I will look for the balloon man.
Zehra tries to reason with Gul. Reyyan gives in. Go shopping, don’t make her suffer. Gul winks at Miran. The ladies separate. Firat is impressed by Gul’s strategy. Miran leaves Firat and circles around to head Reyyan off.
She tries to walk past him, but he pins her against the wall. Let me go, she tells him, don’t you get tired of bothering me? We have to talk he says. We have nothing to talk about, she replies, leave me alone before someone sees us. Miran repeats, we have to talk.
Flashback to the last time he did this, before they were married. Reyyan says, that was a long time ago, Mr. Miran. How much longer will you keep following me? [about 60 more Turkish episodes] I’ll follow you forever, he tells her. She breaks free and starts walking, he follows. She says, let’s put an end to this nightmare. What more do you want? I’m just getting started Reyyan, he answers, you’d be surprised at what I’m capable of.
He tells her she removed her ring. Yes she took it off and threw it away. He takes the ring out of his pocket and says, lets put it back on. Give it to someone who will appreciate it, she says, I don’t belong to you. He pushes her back to the wall with his stare. Of course you belong to me, he tells her, you’re mine.
And we are out.

MANY thanks, dondi356, for this wonderful recap. You captured absolutely everything. Reading it was like watching the novela, except better, thanks to your great asides and a new Turkish word (yilan) for my vocabulary. There certainly will be lots of occasions on which to use it: there are so many snakes in this novela.
So they've arranged for Yaren the Yilan to marry the pasha's son. Pity the poor son! I wonder whether Yaner will try to offer Yaren an alternative. I hope not, but there's clearly got to be a role for him in the novela.
I was under the impression that Reyyan tore up the wedding photo of Gonul and Miran at the same time she tore up the wedding photos of herself and Miran. So I was surprised to see that she had an untorn copy of Gonul and Miran. ??
I'm not a fan of excessively emotional acting, and so much of Hazar's over-the-top breakdown in the stable left me unmoved. One aspect of Hazar's mea culpas seemed especially unwarranted. He refers to himself as a "bad father" and says "My little girl deserves someone much better than me." Oh, come on! Often, I'm bothered by Zehra's excessive outbursts, but I was impressed with her compassionate response in this scene.
At one point, Azize says (while talking to Ahmed's photo) "if Miran had married anyone else, we’d never have revenge." I'm not sure why she says this. What am I missing? What has Gonul got to do with Azize's thirst for venganza?
Another excellent recap dondi356! I needed the last few paragraphs because the power went out in a huge rainstorm just when Gul saw Miran outside the Sadoglu konak!
Hazar had a couple of powerful daddy moments with his bio son and non-bio daughter. He may not yet hear the call of sangre from Miran, but adorable Gul sure does. I love her clever way of helping out her hermano Miran, even advocating for him with compliments to Reyyan.
I was not thrilled with Miran’s abusive way toward Gonul (even if I dislike her a lot) and I was glad to see Sultana call him out and let loose about his own mother’s abuse. BG is in trouble with Miran and Sultana.
Yılan, another great new word! Certainly fits Yaren perfectly! Can’t wait to see her new hubby to be!
Juanita, I was also very confused with BG’s confession about Miran having to marry Gonul or the venganza would never happen. I can’t even come up with a viable crockpot theory for that statement!
I don’t know about any of you, but I am trying hard to resist the urge to watch all the Turkish episodes on YouTube just to see what is going on!
Another Big Thank You dondi356!
Wonderful recap, dondi! Great descriptions and clever asides.
Actually I wished for facial warts, as in 9 or 10, not just one on the prospective bridegroom's nose.
Well, I realize that the plot device requires the family to stay in the Casa de Yilan(es). [Don't know how to do Turkish plurals.] I let out a big disgusted yell when they stayed. After Hazar totally defied his father, then just caved. Why do they think Reyyan is so weak that she'd fall apart hearing that the man who has loved her and cared for her during her whole life is not a blood relative?
And, of course, Hazar lays down the law about treating his wife and daughters well. And it doesn't last for 10 minutes before Yaren is dripping poison, as is Handan.
I guess I thought Azize was saying "if Miran had married anyone else" meant the fake wedding to Reyyan.
So we saw a chink in BG's armor last night. Apparently she does care about Gonul, although I've never seen her show it to the girl herself. And I LOVED Sultana grabbing her hand and stopping the planned slap. And it was fantastic when she said out loud that his mother was abused by his father.
Azize seems to put her sons on a pedestal, but from what we've seen...two of them were wife beaters. I have a hunch she might have been beaten herself back in the day. I remember when she said something to the effect (to Sultana) that her blood would run cold if she knew what she (Azize) had to endure to be the head of this household.
So, I guess I'm a really bad person. I didn't mind Miran choking Gonul. Of course Viewerville knew he wasn't going to actually kill her. But it sure looks like he's got grounds for divorce from someone nuts enough to stab herself to try to put the blame on someone else.
Like many things they say I am sometimes confused. I thought, reading the Spanish subtitles, that Cihan was going for a marriage with a family called Pachá. I have heard the word pasha as a sort of honorific before. Not sure what it means. But, the guy may have high status and a lot of warts!
I was actually hoping for some time for these two apart and for Reyyan to develop something to do with her life besides being a whipping girl.
THANK YOU to all the recappers for such outstanding recaps of this extraordinary tale! I got behind during the week but thank goodness for week-ends! I have truly enjoyed keeping up with all the comments that mirror my own sentiments as I watch the episodes.
I had to smile with the comments regarding all the tantrums and yelling…it’s really over the top. I was getting used to Miran’s yelling, punching walls and his head, but when I saw Hazar lose it, I thought, “Ah that’s where Miran gets it! LOL
I was pleasantly surprised that the writers confirmed our theory about Miran being Hazar’s son so quickly! Now how long will it take for Hazar and Miran to find out? The call of the blood is being silenced by all that hate instilled in Miran by the BBG (big, bad granny).
dondi, every time I see Azize with those beads I think of Kahraman! And when they broke, I broke out too…in laughter LOL
In regards to Elif, I have had the notion that she is Azize’s daughter for a while…I even mentioned it in a comment a few episodes back. And I too agree that BBG must be a woman scorned…by TG, but I don’t think Elif could be their daughter or Mehmet’s daughter…she appears to be much younger than Miran; so she must have been born AFTER BBG concocted her vengeance plan. Now could BBG and TG have had a child together??? If so, who could it be and where is that child??
Going back to the question about Sultana’s “lost” son…could Yaner be that lost son???
Yaren—Oh how I love her being slapped, pushed, and pulled by the hair…give me more! Give me more! In addition to warts. I’m hoping for really bad teeth and body odor…for Yaren’s hubby. :-D
Novelera, I’m a bad person too (sigh). I didn’t mind at all seeing Miran grab Gon-rogue by the throat. It couldn’t have hurt her more than her stabbing herself. OTHO, I do think Miran needs extensive and intensive anger management therapy.
The character who is quite perplexing to me is Esme. How can she be so tolerant of BBG? How can she live with all those secrets she keeps for BBG? She is witnessing all the horrible consequences, yet she keeps her mouth shut! And I wonder, “Why?” Does BBG have something on her? We’ve asked about Reyyan’s bio father…and that leads me to ask, “Who is Firat’s father??”
Have a wonderful Sunday!!
Thanks, everyone.
Turkish lesson for the day:
Pasha (paşa) was a high rank in the Ottoman Empire (right, deb?) Present day it’s an honorific that could still refer to the military or a government official. But it would signify a person of stature. Maybe we will find out when we meet the pasha. [and I hope his son has a lot of warts, too, novelera]
The plural of yılan is yılanlar. But if we want to say house of snakes, it’s “yılan evi”
I’m also confused by "if Miran had married anyone else, we’d never have revenge.” Why would Azize marry her own granddaughter to a Sadoglu as part of the revenge? Maybe Firat told BG that Miran saw Reyyan that day at the museum (the cut scene) so she married him to Gonul? IIRC, BG doesn’t want the marriage consummated until the revenge is over. Could Miran and Gonul have a fake marriage, too, but they don’t know? This wasn’t any clearer in the Turkish. I’m all over the place with this.
Elif was thinking of Azat…
Juanita, I think Reyyan intended to keep the Miran & Gonul wedding photo to remind her of Miran’s betrayal when she needed it.
I’m a bad person, too. I didn’t mind Miran throttling Gonul. She walked right into it!
Rgv Chick, you made me think… “Who is Firat’s father??” Could Firat be Sultan’s missing son, raised by Esma? This way BG could keep him close and protect him. She also trusts him and gives him a lot of responsibility.
VVS, I know what you mean about being tempted to watch the Turkish eps. Also, I prefer to hear the actor’s voices and I need to hear Turkish if I’m ever going to get beyond a beginner level.
dondi356
"Why would Azize marry her own granddaughter to a Sadoglu as part of the revenge? Maybe Firat told BG that Miran saw Reyyan that day at the museum (the cut scene) so she married him to Gonul?" Or maybe because, if Miran had married anyone else, the girl and her family would never go along with the plan? BBG has control over her family, but she can't control others...well, unless she has something to threaten/blackmail them with.
dondi, "Could Firat be Sultan’s missing son, raised by Esma?" That's a possibility! OR since we know that the Aslanbey brothers treated women like doormats, maybe one of the "dishonored" Esma???
Interesting theories about "Who's your daddy?" vis-a-vis Firat and/or Yaner. Firat doesn't look young enough to be Sultana's child. I can't remember if she said the baby died because of her Aslanbey husband before or after Gonul was born.
I kind of like the idea that he's really Esma's son, but might have been raped by one of BG's ghastly sons.
I agree Carmella. I wish that Gaviota would choose Leonidas. I have always loved Lincoln Palomeque in any role he's ever played. I thought the way Sebastian treated Leonidas in that cafe in NYC was just so juvenile. He wasn't capable of understanding or tolerating Gaviota's friendship with Leo.
And...I suppose it's good acting, but the constant scowling and nastiness of Ivan are getting on my last nerve. Some telenovela villains have their light moments, maybe even enjoying something spiteful they've done. He's just 24/7 in a bad mood.
I am tired of waiting for Julia to recognize her kind and sympathetic children: Marcela, Bernie, and Sebas (some of the time). Instead she's thrilled with Paula's scammer boyfriend and refuses to accept her gay son.
