HERCAI - #28 – Parte 1 de 4
We return to Miran’s telling Gonul he’s going to divorce her. They used the future tense; I was sort of expecting him to just say “I divorce you!” three times and that would be it. Gonul shrieks at him: “Why are you divorcing me for a woman who’s having her henna party tomorrow?” [Miran should have questioned her knowing that.]
Miran looks around at the women there, especially at BG. “This is over.” He strides out. Gonul faints. We see from the expression on her face that Azize is starting to realize this may not go according to plan.
Firat is walking through the courtyard with some shopping bags. [And Viewerville understands more later as to why he probably has them.] Gonul confronts him. He looks at her tenderly and tells her not to do herself more harm. She reminds him of when they were three kids together. Firat didn’t have a father nor did she. “You knew I loved Miran even then. Why didn’t you help me?” She begs him to stop Miran. She says he would do it if she were really his sister. [Foreshadowing here? VVS is batting 1,000 with her predictions and she thinks that Firat is Sultana’s “stillborn” baby. ]
With all these nutty woman in love with an unattainable (Gonul and Yaren) I keep wishing someone would come out with the old dicho en español: el corazón no se manda.
Poor Azat. He opens the doors of Casa Sadoglu and announces that they will remain open for two days. There will be a table set for anyone to come and eat. Handan is looking on from the balcony with a scarf died around her forehead looking like a refugee from Woodstock.
Hanife hasn’t given up on wanting to marry Nasuh. She tells Melike her henna party will arrive. Melike risks a detached retina from her rolling eyes.
Zehra finds Hazar in their room, his head buried in his hands. He says he can’t let his daughter marry someone she doesn’t love. She’ll never be happy. Zehra tries to talk him off the ledge. [I’m starting to be over Zehra. It looks like she’d rather her daughter be unhappily married than risk her pregnancy out of wedlock coming to light.]
Azat is the one who stops Hazar from going into the room where Reyyan is getting ready for the party. He’s very endearing in this scene. “Uncle, I know you don’t want her to marry me. But we both know it has to happen.” Azat says he knows she doesn’t love him, but he’ll heal her wounds, and he’s promised never to touch her. “She can stay with her family. And this will restore her honor.” [novelera makes the hasta aquí gesture with her hand at her forehead indicating how sick of this honor crap she is?!]
HERCAI - #28 – Parte 2 de 4
Hazar is aghast. “You accepted this?” Azat replies that this was Reyyan’s condition for marrying him and he promised. Hazar: “My dear nephew! My sweet Azat!” Hazar agrees not to interfere and they embrace.
Sultana tells BG that she’s losing control of Gonul. “Can’t you stop Miran?” Azize coldly tells her she and her daughter are alike, listening at doors and that both she and Gonul are disasters. She goes on to say that maybe a divorce is appropriate; Gonul could find someone else. Sultana: “My daughter is in love!” BG: “Love passes. Love is a weakness.” Sultana tells her that, if Miran divorces Gonul, nothing will stop her. She’ll tell Miran the whole truth…that Azize Aslanbey and her son are fictious characters. “I’ll tell him that Señor Hazar didn’t kill his parents, nor did he dishonor his mother! I spent years keeping quiet. If you don’t stop Miran, I’ll tell all!” She leaves.
BG: “So you’re threatening me now. One simple word and you’ll be at my mercy.” [another secret?]
Miran is at his desk in his office. [That painting of the rearing black stallion behind him could not be more symbolic and sexual.] He seems almost catatonic. Firat tries to get him to snap out of it, saying he swore that nothing bad would happen to Miran.
There are two parties being arranged at Casa Sadoglu, one area for the women of the house and the male guests in another. Hanife gets in a dig at the gloating Yaren. “Won’t be long until your henna party.” Yaren shoots back that it will be a while before she marries. She says she has to clear the way before it’s her turn. [I’m thinking there needs to be a contest for most delusional between Yaren and Gonul. First prize is the smelly, warty son of the pasha.]
Speaking of Firat, have we ever seen him in anything but a 3-piece suit?
Azat approaches his grandfather and thanks him for giving his blessing to his marriage. He takes the miserable old bastard’s hand and asks God’s blessings for him. For once the old SOB looks a bit guilty. After Azat walks away, GT tells Cihan that it’s all arranged. Reyyan won’t wake up in his house in the morning. In fact she’ll never wake up again. [From the expression on his face I don’t think Cihan knew the totality of GT’s plan.]
We see Reyyan in a rather funereal henna party outfit. She has a memory of the other henna party and putting some henna on Miran’s hand.
We then see Miran riding up the street on his white horse while the love theme plays.
HERCAI - #28 – Parte 3 de 4
Gul is once again her brother Miran’s accomplice. She urges Reyyan to come with her, something about the balloons again. Miran is waiting outside. He grabs her hand and tells her that no one will put henna on her hands before him. He looks at her hand and says it won’t have henna for anyone else. She tells him to leave, and he says he won’t leave alone. He tells her that it’s the time for them to escape together.
Reyyan: “You think I’d abandon my parents?” Miran: “No one is asking if you want to go. You will go! No one can tear you from my side.” She tells him he’s nuts and opens her mouth to scream for help. He puts a hand over her mouth. He says that, if she calls out, either her cousin will kill him or he will kill Azat. And he also says that, if she screams when he takes away his hand from her mouth, her father will come to kill him and become a murderer. He picks her up like a sack of potatoes and puts her on the horse.
Reyyan does begin to cry out. Azat hears and runs for the street outside. Gul tells Azat, Zehra, Melike and Yaren that Miran came on a horse and took her sister away just like princes do for princesses. Yaren starts crying hysterically and telling Azat to go after her.
Inside the mansion we hear Evil Nasuh’s thoughts. “He took her too soon. He should have waited until the end of the night.” Apparently he thinks his assassin took Reyyan.
When Hazar runs outside Yaren tells him that Miran kidnapped Reyyan.
Now in the street with everyone else Nasuh tells Cihan that he had it all planned and that bastard ruined it. Now everyone in Midyat will know! It turns out all the cars were disabled. Cihan starts saying they should just let her go. Hazar loses it. He grabs Cihan by the lapels. “With a brother like you, who needs enemies!”
Yaren begins yelling at her brother to go get Reyyan. He yells at her repeatedly to shut up and gets her by the throat. Handan yells at Zehra that her children hate each other and it’s all her fault. Azat gets his gun and says he’s going to kill Miran.
Azat fires a shot into the sky and races off. Yaren tells her mother to let him go. After all, his fiancé was stolen. Slap! This was a good one, a backhand with a lot of knuckles in it. Handan: “I can’t believe that someone like you could be my daughter!” [Well, yeah, novelera kinda does.]
Miran takes Reyyan to a car and forces her to get in. She calls him a stalker and a criminal. “Give this up! Let me go! My father will come for me and, if not my father, then Azat. “ Looking murderous, he screams at her not to mention that imbecile’s name.. Reyyan: “Where are you taking me? To the mansion…with your wife?”
HERCAI - #28 – Parte 4 de 4
Miran calls Firat, who is helping with this caper. He was the one who disabled the cars at Casa Sadoglu. Miran, however, doesn’t tell Firat where he’s taking Reyyan.
We see Hazar in some car that Firat must have overlooked. He’s on a dark road, threatening to kill Miran. He sees a car ahead and recognizes it as Miran’s. A reckless car chase occurs. [novelera is worried about Hazar crashing.] Eventually Hazar pulls in front of the car, making it stop. But it’s Firat.
Hazar brandishes the usual Midyat gun and puts it to Firat’s head. “I’m capable of dying for my daughter! Where is she?” He bashes Firat on the head with the gun and tells him to call Miran.
Reyyan is crying in the car. She says that, ever since she met him, he’s insisted that she do what he wants.
Firat calls, but it’s Hazar who is on the phone. Miran tells him that “Just like you would die for your daughter, Firat would do the same for me.” [novelera gags] “Reyyan stays with me. I won’t hurt her. You won’t find us.”
Hazar, of course, cannot kill Firat. He drives off. Nasuh gets right in Firat’s face and says: “Tell that harpy Azize that blood will flow and that she will die drowned in that blood!”
When Reyyan asks Miran if he wants to make her father into a killer, he replies that, if Hazar were capable of that, he would have already killed him. He says that Hazar won’t kill Firat. Reyyan: “You’re sure that my father won’t kill Firat, but you’re also sure he killed your parents?” She doesn’t get a reply.
GT calls the assassin. He tells him to find Reyyan before Hazar does and to finish his job. They are at the police station and, when Hazar exits, GT asks if he filed the complaint. Hazar says he did so. GT starts insisting that Hazar come back to the konak. Hazar says he’ll search all of Midyat.
Azat maraches into Casa Aslanbey shouting for Miran and then for Reyyan. Elif sees him and asks what happened. She’s about to run down there when BG doesn’t let her do so.
He shouts at BG that her grandson wants to die. Gonul runs up to him, with both Sultana and Azize yelling “No”. Gonul: “Wasn’t this the henna party?” Azize shouts for the Hunky Bar bodyguard. Azat clicks a round into the chamber and grabs Gonul, pointing the gun at her head.
It appears BG is not willing to call off her guards, even with a gun at Gonul’s head, until Elif and Sultana beg her. As he goes toward the car, Azat shouts: “If Reyyan doesn’t appear, you’ll never see Gonul again.” He gets in his car and burns rubber out of there.
Talk about batting a 1000, this recap does that and more novelera! Excellent conversation descriptions and laugh out loud snark! “Handan is looking on from the balcony with a scarf tied around her forehead looking like a refugee from Woodstock.” And “Melike risks a detached retina from her rolling eyes.” Too funny!
I wasn’t completely sure I heard Gullible Gonul (GG) say “he would do it if she were really his sister.” So thank you for verifying that. I do think it is another hint that Firat is Sultana’s son.
Azat just looks so happy and his chat with Hazar was touching. I just don’t think his great wish to marry his great love is going to happen.
One simple word and you’ll be at my mercy.” [another secret?] Could it be the “Firat is you son” secret? I know, I can’t let it go.
Gotta love Gul, not sure how she and Miran are pulling it off, but it is impressive. Ah, the prince taking the princess away on a horse. So cute.
Nasuh gets right in Firat’s face and says: “Tell that harpy Azize that blood will flow and that she will die drowned in that blood!” I am getting a bit weary hearing this repeated over and over from both Nasuh and Azize.
Reyyan got a few zingers in at Miran last night. Maybe it is good he kidnaped her, they both need to get away from the overacting loons and just be alone. He needs to come clean about how he was raised and for what purpose.
I didn’t like that Azat stooped to the kidnapping level of Gonul. I also think that GG might be like the old story, the Ransom of Red Chief. Azat will have to pay BG to take GG of his hands.
Great way to start a Friday after a very long week! Thanks again novelera!
Novelera, thank you for that snappy recap. I think that I might be hooked on this show. I watched last night because football was in Univision all night.
Nasty Grandpa is like a cartoon villain . I still don't get why he hates Reyyan so much that he wants her dead.
The stallion painting behind Miran at his desk...very subtle ... Muy macho.
GUL is adorable . Is She Reyyans sister? ...but Mirans biggest cheerleader and the device the writers are using to connect Miran and ReyyAn? I cringed when that sweet little girl sat next to deplorable , evilabuelo.
Thank you novelera, for another outstanding recap. I LOL’d at “looking like a refugee from Woodstock” “Melike risks a detached retina from her rolling eyes”
I was over Zahra pretty quickly. I can’t stand her histrionics. I’m almost hoping Dilsah is still alive somewhere out there and will be reunited with Hazar.
Firat has to be an Aslanbey—whether he’s Sultana’s missing son or like Rgv Chick proposed, Esma was “dishonored”.
Comment on Reyyan’’s dress for the henna night. It’s a traditional dress called a bindallı. It can be used for all of the wedding related ceremonies. Hers is not as elaborate as others I’ve seen. You can find info about it online.
Sultana says she will tell everything, but does Sultana know that Miran is a Sadoglu? If she does, why would she be so desperate to keep her daughter married?
Does Gul Hanım have a secret cell phone stashed somewhere? Firat and Miran seem to have a direct line to her.
It was a good night for the Yaren haters. She got a throttle and a slap. Where is that Pasha’s son?!
Just my opinion and I’m sure I’m in the minority. Right now, Miran is an awful galan. His constant scowling, outbursts and bad hair make him unattractive to me. I can’t wait until they transition him from a venganza machine to a human being. We had a glimpse of it when he spoke with Gonul and in brief moments when he’s with Reyyan. Please writers, don’t make me wait too long.
dondi356
Hi, Susanlynn.
Grandpa Nasuh never loved Reyyan because she is not a Sadoglu by blood. This is a big secret for now, but Azat just accidentally found out. Then add on the big dishonor and there you go. Yes, grandpa does look like a cartoon villain!
Gul is Reyyan’s half-sister through Zehra and she’s Miran’s half-sister through Hazar.
Embajador season is ending soon, so you can get your Turkish dizi fix here.
dondi356
"Malverde: El Santo Patrón", interesting video on the costumes,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga8fyvuV7DY
You are not alone regarding Miran being an awful galan dondi356. At first, I really liked him but recently, after seeing those courting scenes and how he really did play with Reyyan in the most hateful way, his galan tiara has tarnished with me a bit.
I at first liked his hair, but now after so many nights of living in the office, he just needs a good shower, a nap, a haircut and some food. That dude never eats or sleep. The continued reference to him living in evil is definitely showing. He is going to need a lot of therapy because not even Reyyan can heal those wounds.
Is the thought that Miran’s mom might still be out there a new crockpot theory dondi356? If so, I like it!! Hazar finding the love of his life again and connecting might actually save Miran.
MANY thanks, novelera, for this superb recap. Even though it's still morning here on the West Coast, I've come late to the party, and much of what I wanted to say has already been said by others. So, although I loved the recap and especially your zinger asides, such as "[I’m thinking there needs to be a contest for most delusional between Yaren and Gonul. First prize is the smelly, warty son of the pasha.]" and "Melike risks a detached retina from her rolling eyes" (that one literally made me laugh out loud), I'll focus my comments on just one issue.
Though I loved the recap, I found myself immensely turned off by the novela, and especially by Miran. Until now, I've rooted for him even as I winced at his often cruel, bullying behavior toward the woman he supposedly loves, Reyyan. But last night, I saw him in a much more negative light. Over and over again, he was scarily domineering and dismissive of her wants. Reyyan refers to him as a stalker and a criminal, and I think she's absolutely right. He plots with her baby sister to lure her outside, waits for her, and grabs her. She pleads with him to let her go, but he repeatedly refuses, declaring “No one is asking if you want to go. You will go! No one can tear you from my side.” He puts his hand over her mouth to prevent her from continuing to cry out and then, as you say in the recap, he "picks her up like a sack of potatoes and puts her on the horse."
I'm encouraged to see that dondi356 and VVS were also troubled by Miran, especially last night. Dondi called him "an awful galan," and VVS admits "his galan tiara has tarnished with me a bit." Dondi writes, "I can’t wait until they transition him from a venganza machine to a human being." Until last night, I think I would have said the same thing. But last night, I came to feel that although that transformation will almost surely occur, I was no longer sure it was what I wanted. Telemundo has at times used its telenovelas in part as PSAs (Public Service Announcements) to influence the audience's thinking about social issues. I think Hercai is sending the wrong message about behavior such as Miran's. In real life, many women find themselves in abusive relationships with men who ignore their wishes and treat them badly. By transforming Miran at the end, the novela will do these women a disservice by encouraging them to believe that the men will change, that all will be well. However, I strongly doubt that someone who has spent the first 30 years of his life instilled with hate and being treated like royalty is going to change. Miran believes that Reyyan is his because he wants her, and since he wants her, he's entitled to do whatever it takes to get her. Feh!
I will most likely continue to watch and recap this novela, but I'm fed up with Miran. Perhaps I should wait to post this until my anger subsides, but maybe a hyperbolic comment is appropriate for this over-the-top novela.
Miran is in no way a galan for me . I don't find him very attractive . I much prefer the galan on "La Hiya" ...Sancar who did see the light and mended his angry, egotistical, entitled ways and is now trying his best to win over his one true love who has now turned the tables and has become insufferable in her own annoying way.
Thanks, all. I actually could feel my pulse race a bit last night with all the excitement. The one thing that didn't worry me, at least after the two cars came to a stop, was that Hazar would kill Firat. It's just not in him.
I completely agree with everyone's feelings about Miran. I was disgusted with the way he kept saying no one could tear her from him. And his disregard of her feelings. But...to me this novela often reminds me of romance novels I dipped into as a teenager. The strong, enigmatic man who dominates the woman, kisses her against her will, and whom she ends up loving is a feature of this type of "literature". As a modern woman his arrogance offends me. He's over the top, but so are Azize and Nasuh.
Susanlynn I am SO pleased to find that you were able to get the Telemundo channel and are joining us here on the Patio of Women with Mixed Feelings.
Speaking of demented, Azize and Nasuh are the worse kind! I couldn’t believe that Azize would hesitate in calling off her henchman with a gun to her granddaughter’s head! I previously stated that I thought that Azize really does love Gonul, but I don’t know now! I did not see love or fear in Azize’s eyes at Gonul’s predicament, just blood and the opportunity to kill a Sadoglu. Sad. Nasuh, otoh, only cares about his family’s so called “honor.” I mean, really, is it honorable to kill a young woman because you all were duped?!? Including her?!? How does that make sense???? Make it make sense Nasuh!!!
Next on my demented list is Miran. I don’t like him very much for all the reasons pointed out, but I do understand his desperation. Despite all the revenge stuff, his only moments of happiness appear to be those he shared with Reyyan. He was trained up to be an unfeeling robot, and fed a daily dish of revenge, revenge, revenge. He was obviously torn from the beginning, and doesn’t know what to feel or believe at all. He still can’t admit that Hazar isn’t the killing type despite what he’s seen and heard from both Hazar and Reyyan. OTOH, he’s seen and participated in the ruthlessness of his grandmother. Time to start putting two and two together Miran! Time to start letting go of your crazy and seek the answers you need in a rational manner. Stop treating Reyyan like she’s your personal possession, even though if you hadn’t kidnapped her she’d be dead or locked away in the dungeon for the rest of this story—-heaven forbid, and stop asking the lot of crazies in Aslanbey camp for answers! Miran’s anger moments crack me up though! He looks like a madman with his heavy breathing, and his slew-footed walk just adds to his Mr Hyde persona, haha.
Cihan is another one. Little sneaky man lost cause he ain’t his daddy’s favorite.....but it also makes him dangerous. I would love to see him and Hazar duke it out though, lol...
Thanks again for the recap novelera......loving them and this drama 😊
VVS, we could throw Dilsah in the crockpot, it would be interesting.
Susanlynn, I prefer Sancar by light years. Even at his worst, he was never this bad. And it’s always easier to overlook a galan’s faults when you love the actor.
novelera, very interesting comparison to romance novels. I can see a thread. My grandmother had a stash of these, and my cousins and I would read them out loud to each other and laugh ourselves silly.
When the setting is in Southeastern Turkey, this is the kind of story I expect to see. Regardless, Miran seems almost inhuman to me. (although he has been nice to Gul, too.) I don’t expect a PSA as we know it on Telemundo but shows like these shed a light and start conversations. (I remember the international response when Fatmagül aired.) Hercai was/is popular in Turkey and internationally, too. The opinions are interesting.
I’ll have the recap up sometime on Saturday. Telemundo is really screwing me with the run over into 10p.
dondi356
I agree with Juanita that Miran using Reyyan's little sister was especially heinous. Imagine how that poor little girl who has already gone through so much feels, seeing her sister dragged off like that.
I hope this novela goes overboard and becomes a warning about toxic relationships!
OT is anyone watching Orphans? I love one of the themes, La Bel Haki (Not in Words) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBs0eD9m5gs
Dee
Thanks, Carmella for your very interesting comment. You said it perfectly: If Zehra had let Hazar take their family out of the "house of horrors" none of this would have happened. I was fervently hoping they'd leave.
But it's clear to me now that Miran and Reyyan must be together. I was kinda hoping for Reyyan to have a couple of weeks of life in, say, Istanbul, before he found her.
And, yes, no matter how much Cihan sucks up to Evil Granddad, he's always going to be second best to the firstborn. I can't tell if GT feels that way only because of Hazar's being the firstborn or if he inwardly realizes what a toady the second born is and prefers his more honest son, Hazar.
Welcome, Dee. We certainly do have a full patio! Let's get a round of margaritas, despite the protagonists being muslim.
HOLA!! I am very impressed with the recappers who are so dedicated in sharing their time and talent! The recaps are outstanding and what makes them even better is the snark and sides. Thank you, VVS, Novelera and Juanita!! dondi356, I can't wait to set my eyes on your masterpiece! And thank you to everyone for all the insightful and interesting comments!
I see that several have left the Miran table, and I can understand your frustration with this young man who seems to believe that the world revolves around him and that he "owns" whatever pleases him. HOWEVER, I am still sitting at his table with my Bahama Mama in one hand and a stress ball in the othe...my cowhide beanie is strapped on tightly. I'm not sure about the timespan, but I don't think Miran has had enough time to process all the lies and deceptions BG has drilled into him. His immense inner struggle is thwarting his decision-making and his methods for winning Reyyan back...all he can focus on is getting Reyyan to trust him and return to him. I did not care for his method of "rescuing" Reyyan, but as Carmella pointed out, Reyyan will see the sun rise the next morning because of Miran. We have seen an occasional softer side of Miran, and the more time he spends with Reyyan, I think that softer side will be revealed more frequently (crossing my fingers it will be soon). dondi356, I agree that Sancar has never been this bad, but Sancar did not have such a trajic history or a "mother-figure" who turned him into a vengeance machine. I probably sound like I'm making excuses for Miran, but I have seen and worked with too many troubled kids whose parents have taught them to be mean and vindictive...and it took years of guidance and (the right type of) attention to get them to a point where they can think (of others) before they act.
I was not too bothered by Gul being used as an accomplice; she seems to enjoy helping Miran and it is obvious that she prefers Miran over Azat. Now how Miran communicates with her is a total mystery to me too.
Novelera, "to me this novela often reminds me of romance novels I dipped into as a teenager. The strong, enigmatic man who dominates the woman, kisses her against her will, and whom she ends up loving is a feature of this type of "literature". Oh my, YES!! And why is it that when I see this type of "enigmatic man who dominates the woman" I think of Rhett Butler, specifically, when he forced himself on Scarlet and then she woke up with a smile the next morning!!
My dear Telemundo patio peeps, I wish I had popped over here more often. Now that I am consistently reading the recaps and comments from this patio, I see and acknowledge how talented the recappers are...and the humor is noteworthy. I have been recently nominating some of the witty comments to Blue Lass for posting on the sidebar (I hope you've noticed that one of Novelera's comments is there right now). There have been many times when I jot down some of your comments to submit, but I get busy/distracted and sometimes forget; and I apologize for that.
Blue Lass posts new comments at the beginning of each month. Please be reminded that ANYONE can nominate a "sidebarworthy" comment and submit it to Blue Lass at fishdontsleep@gmail.com; she always welcomes the nominations!
Now let's get some more of your snark on the main page
If Reyyan doesn’t show up, you will never see Gonul again!
Sultana bangs on the hood of Azat’s car. Stop! Let my daughter go! Not gonna happen. He zooms off with Gonul. Sultana has a breakdown and the ladies of the Aslanbey mansion run to her aid. She rips herself away from Azize and tears into her, let me go! You made me sacrifice my only daughter for the Aslanbeys. This fire continues to burn me 30 years later. I served my daughter to you on a silver platter, but you didn’t protect her. Will you sacrifice my daughter for the family? Or for Miran?
Azize is crying real tears, no... I won’t. I love my granddaughter. Sultana demands, bring my daughter back, even if it means forgoing your revenge and your life. Nothing is more important than her. Azize tearfully answers, yes, I’ll find her. Sultana walks away. Elif calls after her aunt, but Azize tells her to leave her alone.
Elif turns on Azize. What did you say, Grandma? Leave her alone? If anything happens to Azat, they will hurt Gonul more. Stop doing things that hurt other people! Stop, Grandma! Enough! Azize walks back to the mansion and Esma comforts Elif.
Sultana jogs through the streets calling for Gonul. I guess we know where she’s headed.
Azat rages as he drives. I swear there’s nowhere in the world you can hide, Miran! You will suffer as much as you have made us suffer! Gonul cries, what are you going to do with me? Where are you taking me? Azat yells at her to shut up, the Aslanbeys are getting a taste of their own medicine. You’re not returning home until Reyyan comes back. You will live in fear and experience everything that she has. Then you will all understand! He shouts at Gonul, stop crying!
Meanwhile, in another car, Reyyan asks Miran, you won’t listen, will you? You won’t give up, she sobs, you’ll always find a way to keep me imprisoned in the hell you have constructed. He’s just driving along, with that typical tortured look on his face. And now I fear you more than ever, she tells him, I never know what you plans are or when your lies will end. She asks, what else are you going to do to me, Miran?
Miran pulls over and answers Reyyan, I’ll make you believe me. Because I have felt the same pain you have all this time, and I won’t let you live with that pain in your heart anymore. Whatever happens, whatever you do, I’ll make you believe me. [and make me believe you are a worthy galan?] Reyyan responds, you really want to make me believe you? He nods. Believe what, she asks? Believe in me, he replies. He drives off again.
Azize is pacing in the courtyard. I’ve been planning my revenge for so many years, she says, I can’t let the enemy make me act impulsively. There will be payback for all they have done. I will not betray my granddaughter or my family. Elif speaks up, but you let Aunt Sultana go alone. Aren’t you going to do anything about it? Azize says, let her go crazy looking. It can’t be easy to have your daughter kidnapped before your eyes.
Firat enters the konak. What happened, who was kidnapped, he asks? Azize sees his bloody lip and asks, what happened to you? Where were you? Who did that to you? Esma is worried. Firat says it’s nothing. Azize figures it out, did the Sadoglus attack you? He wants his answer first, who was kidnapped? Elif answers, Azat kidnapped Gonul. What? How?
Azize asks, where is Miran? Firat has that deer in the headlights look. Azize asks, it is true that my grandson took Reyyan from the Sadoglu mansion? He hesitates…señora… Azize moves in close to Firat and says, Miran asked you to help him. The Sadoglus attacked you. I asked you to help me. Miran isn’t thinking sensibly and yet you helped him. Azat came to our home with a gun. He held a gun to Gonul and took her. I ought to put them on their knees and make them beg for mercy for what they’ve done! Firat looks properly shamed.
dondi356
Azize gives him the orders—gather all our men. Bring in specialists from Istanbul if necessary. They should be well armed. Ask all our friends for help. And find Miran, asap. Bring my granddaughter home. Listen carefully, if Gonul gets hurt because of Hazar’s bastard daughter, I swear there will be a bloodbath. I swear!
Elif shouts at her grandma, enough! End this conflict! Everything that has happened is your fault. Miran told you he wouldn’t leave Reyyan in that mansion. But you had the last word and wouldn’t listen. Another great move from my grandmother. Do something and bring Gonul back! Elif walks off. Firat gets on his phone walks towards the konak door. Azize tells him, don’t come back until you have found him.
Things are not going much better at the Sadoglu konak kitchen. Handan is beside herself with worry, Lord give me strength, protect my son, she cries. Yaren shows up and Handan says to her, your brother is going to become a murderer. Yaren tells her mother to calm down, Azat wouldn’t do something so stupid. [or can he?] He can’t kill Miran, she says with worry. [she’s only worried about Miran…good grief.]
Yaner appears in the kitchen. He asks his mother, why did you stop me? I should have gone with him. Our hands are tied. She replies, don’t leave me all alone with these women, I beg you. Zehra comes running in, Hazar won’t answer his phone. She asks Yaren to call her father or grandfather.
Handan attacks Zehra, shouting, you couldn’t leave, could you?! Every day is a different hell because of you! The ladies are pulled apart. Handan continues yelling, your outcast daughter is going to make a murderer out of my son! Zehra shouts back, I’m so tired of you, Handan! Think of us. The man who tried to buy our daughter took her against her will. Who knows where she is! Handan threatens, if anything happens to Azat, because of your immoral child, I’ll make you all pay! Handan storms off and Zehra feels faint.
Sultana is wandering like a zombie, until she arrives at the “Sadoğlu Konağı”.
Handan has started ranting out in the courtyard. There’s no way out! We are ruined and it’s her fault! The whole Sadoglu family will die because of Reyyan’s immorality! Zehra comes running out of the kitchen. Shut up! The start of another catfight is only interrupted by the appearance of Sultana Aslanbey.
Sadoglu family! Where is my daughter?! Gonul! Sultana heads straight for Handan and chokes her with both hands, pinning her against a wall! Tell your son to bring back my daughter! Yaren asks, my brother kidnapped Gonul? The others try to pull Sultana off Handan [but I say, let her finish the job].
Sultana threatens, I’ll kill you without thinking twice, I won’t wait 27 years like Señora Azize did. If anything happens to my daughter, I’ll kill your whole family, do you hear? Where is my daughter?! Handan says my son would never do something like that. Sultana begs to differ, he held a gun to her head and kidnapped her in front of me. I’ll kill you with my bare hands. Yaren begs for her mother and Sultana pushes her away. Yaner goes to help Yaren.
Sultana says she has nothing to lose, her daughter is everything. You have no idea what I would do for her, she tells Handan. Zehra smashes a water pitcher and shouts, enough! Sultana lets go of Handan and everyone turns in Zehra’s direction.
Zehra tells Sultana, I don’t know but I can imagine. If you were to find a gun, you’d shoot us all without hesitation, right? You’ve been desperately walking the streets of Midyat to bring your daughter back. You walked so much, your legs are on fire, Zehra cries in empathy, and now you’re pleading for her to be alive. All you want is to see your daughter. You can’t breathe and not because you ran, but because you don’t know where else to look.
dondi356
Zehra continues, all you want is to hold your daughter, but you can’t because she was ripped from you. Who knows how she’s feeling? Is she suffering? You wonder what she’s thinking and you’re not there to comfort her. Because you are a mother, Señora Sultana.
Zehra adds, do you remember how I felt when I showed up at your door? Now do you understand? [I think she does but will it matter?] Sultana takes some heaving breaths. She tells Zehra, there’s just one difference. I won’t turn around and go back. I’m not leaving this house without my daughter.
Sultana picks up a piece of the broken pitcher and waves it around. Stand back! Let’s go find them! Come with me! Handan tells Sultana, my son isn’t like all of you. He wouldn’t hurt your daughter. Sultana grabs Yaren and tells her, you are the worst one of all! [yes!] The source of all our problems. You like to poison people’s souls. [spot on, Sultana!] It was your idea to kidnap my daughter, right? Yaner manages to grab Sultana and Yaren is freed.
Sultana yells for her daughter and Yaner drags her and pushes her out the konak door. Sultana screams and bangs on the door. Gonuuuuul!! She slumps at the door and sobs, give me back my daughter, she’s all I have in the world.
Zehra comes out to Sultana. There could be millions of kilometers between a mother and daughter, but your hearts are always close. No door, not matter how strong, can come between them. I wouldn’t close the door to a mother in anguish when she has so much pain. Your daughter isn’t here, Zehra tells her, if she were, I wouldn’t deny you. I’d give her to you because I am also a mother. The scratches I made on your door are still there. Zehra offers Sultana to come in, the door is open. Sultana takes unsteady, heavy steps away from the mansion holding on to the wall.
Handan is brought back into the kitchen and is seated at the table. She laments, Azat, what did you do? You’ve condemned yourself. Hanife says, be grateful he only condemned himself. Nigar says, how can you say such horrible things? Hanife won’t be quiet. Azat kidnapped Gonul Aslanbey, what do you think will happen?
Hanife answers her own question, Azize Aslanbey has a thirst for revenge. She dishonored the Sadoglus before all of Midyat. You think she won’t make Azat pay? She would tear anyone’s heart out. There will be bloodshed.
Melike yells for Hanife to shut up, think of Handan. Think before you open your mouth. They also kidnapped someone. Melike reasons, if an Aslanbey does it, it’s unforgiveable, but it doesn’t matter if a Sadoglu does it? Stop!
Azat brings Gonul to a storage area or garage. She yells at him, why did you bring me here? What are you going to do to me? Shut up and stop asking questions, he snaps back. She cries, will you do to me what Miran did to Reyyan? He points his gun at her and shouts, never speak Reyyan’s name again!
Gonul continues to shout, are you going to pay me back for what they’ve done to you?! Will you throw me in the plaza? Will you use me to restore your honor?! He yells at her to be quiet. Silence, he shouts, don’t remind me of everything you have done to Reyyan!
Gonul says everyone is looking for them now. They will find me and stop you from touching me! Azat says, you think I’m not capable of doing it? He puts the gun away and walks towards her. Stay away, she yells, I’d rather die! Help! Leave me alone!
Miran stops the car to take a break and get some air. He gives Reyyan water [wow, what a guy]. The idiot asks her, how are you? Are you alright? She wants to know where he is taking her. She saw a sign for Urfa. What are we going to do there, she asks? He doesn’t answer. She says, you don’t know what to do. You are making this up as you go. You had to stop the wedding, and this won’t be over until you say so, right?
dondi356
Ah Reyyan, he says, it’s not like you think. We get a flashback. Stalker Miran has caught the assassin stalking Reyyan. He slugs him and threatens to blow his head off. The assassin admits he was hired by Nasuh to throw Reyyan off the cliff and make it look like suicide. End flashback.
Reyyan asks, what is not like I think? Your revenge? Your marriage to Gonul? He says it doesn’t matter now. She tells him, you could take me to the other side of the world but it would be useless. I will never be with you. No matter where you take me, I will never be by your side. My heart, mind and soul will never be with you [never say never]. What connected us, burned with the cabin. He tells her to get back in the car. She warns him this won’t turn out well. Their road trip continues.
Gonul is screaming and Azat ties her up with the scarf that Reyyan dropped. He yells at her to shut up and stop crying. See that scarf I used to tie you, he says. It’s all that remains from when your husband took Reyyan. When Reyyan returns, I’ll put that on her head and only then, I will release you, understand?
Gonul shouts, if you do something to me, I’d rather die! Azat knocks over some stuff and yells, enough! Who’s done all that to Reyyan?! Who makes her hate every breath she takes? Who has put her in situations where she would rather die? Now you are scared, he asks Gonul? Scared I will rape you, scared I will end your life? How do you think Reyyan feels? Do you feel any compassion for her?!
Azat continues, everything that’s happened to her is your family’s fault! You got an innocent girl in trouble, and you are still doing it! Whoever helps Miran is guilty. Whoever allows this, must pay. Azat says he will end it all himself. He warns Gonul, the next time you mention Reyyan’s name, her situation will be a vacation compared to yours. You will ask if it is worth living or if you’d rather die.
Miran stops for gas. For this long trip, Reyyan asks? Yes, for this trip we are taking together, he replies. Do you really think we are on the same path, she asks? Yep. Did you forget, he says, we have the same destiny now. Reyyan says all he has done is increase the hostilities. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, he responds, I’d take on an entire army.
Ha, the attendant approaches the car and stares at Reyyan. Miran snaps his fingers and asks the attendant to fill it. He takes a bag out of the car and asks Reyyan to get out and come with him. He has to pull her out. She wants him to let her go. There are men sitting nearby watching and Miran tells her, you can scream for help if you want but that will just cause more problems. They head for the restrooms.
He says he’s losing patience and he’s about to smash his head against a barrel. And the expected reply--good, do it until you pass out. He gives her the bag and tells her to change her dress. Since you can’t wear the ring, you can’t wear a bindallı from someone else either. She bristles under the orders, do this Reyyan, do that Reyyan, understand Reyyan. She stares him down, all you do is boss me around, what gives you the right? He’s taking it all in. But then she takes the bag and goes into the restroom. He softly says, your eyes…
Nice gas station restroom and they keep it clean, too. Reyyan looks for a means of escape. There is none. She looks in the mirror and thinks back to her first henna night when she met Miran outside the konak. She tells herself, you will find a way out or your father will rescue you. She changes her clothes.
The attendant tells Miran the car is ready. He doesn’t have enough cash. He must go inside to use his credit card and the attendant needs him to move his car. Can he trust Reyyan to leave her? Reyyan comes out. He’s smiling at her and takes her hand to bring her back to the car. She complains all the way, he locks her in while he goes to pay.
dondi356
She doesn’t want to wait. She’s not going anywhere with him. She tries to get out of the car, pushing buttons on the console and on the dash. He looks over to check. She turns on the radio. There’s a delay in processing the payment so Miran has to move further away and it’s out of sight of the car. Reyyan continues to search for a way out; she turns on the wiper and hits the horn. Finally, she manages to unlock the door and get out.
How will she get away? She sees a pickup truck near the station. The driver is ready to leave. Miran comes out and finds Reyyan is gone. Reyyan!! She made it into the back of the truck and is hiding among the crates as the truck goes.
Miran asks the attendant if he saw Reyyan. No. Miran asks if anyone else was here and the attendant tells him about the truck. What truck? Which way did it go? It’s a red truck and it went that-a-way, the attendant points. The clerk from inside comes out and Miran asks if there are cameras. Yes. They go inside to check.
Nasuh, Cihan and Hazar meet up while searching. Hazar is distraught. Where did that bastard take my daughter?! Nasuh tells him to calm down, they will find her [Nasuh left out, so he can kill her.] Cihan says they will never find them like this. He just wants to go home because he’s worried about Azat. He gets a call from Handan and doesn’t take it.
Hazar shouts at his lousy brother, my daughter is in the hands of my mortal enemy. Aren’t you a parent? Don’t you understand? Cihan snaps back, have you put yourself in my place? Do you know what you did when you gave your daughter to my son? You said you’d leave! Then you gave her to my son! Now we are here and it’s all your fault! The brothers start to scuffle and Nasuh and Riza pull them apart.
Hazar yells, I’m desperate and furious! Watch your mouth or I’ll take it out on you! What is this resentment that you feel? Nasuh bellows, enough! You fight no matter how I try to keep you united. I’m sick of it! Hazar swears to leave no stone unturned to find his daughter.
Hazar gets a call—it’s from Azat. Did you find Reyyan, Hazar asks? No, but they will hand over Reyyan, he tells his uncle, I did something. What? Azat! Why would you do that?! Cihan panics, my son killed someone! He’s a killer! Nasuh gets Cihan to calm down. Let’s find out what happened first.
Reyyan is in the back of the truck. She has no idea where she is going. Not sure if they hit a bump but one of the crates falls over and the driver stops and gets out to check. He hops in the back and finds Reyyan. Who are you, he asks? She doesn’t answer. He repeats, who are you? What are you doing here? I didn’t do anything, I’m innocent, she timidly replies. He says, if you are, why are you hiding in my truck?
What do you mean you are not handing over Gonul until they hand over Reyyan, Hazar asks Azat? Do you think this will fix this? Hazar begs Azat not to do anything stupid. Now tell me where you are. I’m on my way. Azat hangs up without another word. Hazar fills them in—Azat kidnapped Gonul. He won’t let her go until they return Reyyan.
dondi356
Azat questions Gonul, where could your husband have taken Reyyan? How would I know, she replies, if I did, we wouldn’t be here. You told us Miran kidnapped Reyyan. Gonul asks, was it during the henna night? Azat replies, he came on his horse and took her away. He disabled our cars so we couldn’t follow. Gonul bemoans, he did all that for Reyyan. He didn’t mind going against everyone. He left behind his family and everyone who loves him for that girl.
Azat asks, what’s wrong? Are you sad, Señora Gonul? What did you expect? You asked for her hand on his behalf, did you forget? You have no idea what you are talking about, she answers. What do you mean, Azat asks? What kind of family are you? You’re all insane. I’ll put an end to your Machiavellian games. It’s over!
The truck driver asks Reyyan what nightclub did you escape from? She says she hasn’t escaped from a nightclub. She apologizes for bothering him and gets up to go. He grabs her, wait! Stop! You can’t lie to me. Let me go, Reyyan gasps. No, I won’t, he tells her with a lecherous look, you came to me all on your own. Why would I let you go? There’s no one here but us. I can do whatever I want with you.
She thinks fast, did she mash his avocados?, and takes off running. He chases her into the field. He catches up to her and grabs her.
We will have to wait until Monday for Miran to show up just in time to save her. No spoiler, just assuming we will follow the formula.
And we are out!
dondi356
novelera, no problem drinking while watching a dizi. Alcohol is legal and characters get drunk on Turkish shows (but the broadcasters blur out the alcohol). Their drink is rakı. It’s kinda equivalent to Colombian aguardiente and other anise flavor alcohols.
Rgv Chick, you make a good point, and I’m not totally off the Miran table. I only need to get up once in a while for a break. I was patient with Sancar so I will be patient with Miran. There are similarities between those two, but you are right, Bad Grannie is way worse than Hellise. I just find Miran much more frustrating to watch. It’s a combo of the writing, directing and the acting.
dondi356
Another dondi356 gem of a recap! Thank you so much for all the great descriptions of everything and everyone! I liked your recap better than the episode. It was much quieter!
I have been stuck on the topic of Miran from yesterday: “Whatever happens, whatever you do, I’ll make you believe me. [and make me believe you are a worthy galan?] Reyyan responds, you really want to make me believe you? He nods. Believe what, she asks? Believe in me, he replies. He drives off again.”
Miran did redeem himself slightly for me last night. I do want to believe he is a worthy galan. His memory about confronting the GT assassin and discovering the plan to kidnap Reyyan and kill her after the henna ceremony, in my mind, made his more outrageous actions a little more understandable. He really was trying to save her. I wish he would have said that outside of the car when they stopped for some fresh air. At least he thought to have some clothes for Reyyan to change into and he was trying harder to keep his cool.
I have decided to return back to the Miran table, with RGV Chick and wait patiently for a transformation based on him discovering and confirming the lies he has been told all along. (I am the one drinking the straight shot of tequila, RGV Chick). 😊
I also think that Gul has not been hurt or traumatized by Miran, she thought it was cool that he took her sister away on a horse like a fairy tale princess.
Oh my word, all those hysterical women last night were very annoying. It was the first time I did a FF >> in this novela so thank you dondi356 for the recap of the dialogue. I was cheering for Sultana to throttle Handan and to use that glass chard on Yaren’s duplicitous face!
Did anyone else think Hanife might actually know Azize? She reacted strangely to the whole berserk women screaming event, again saying that “blood will flow.” There seems to be a familiarly there. Maybe she or her mother worked at the Aslanbey konak back in the day. Not sure why that caught my eye in all that ruckus, but it did.
I am glad Azat put that Gonul in her place. She definitely was part of the whole destruction of poor Reyyan and deserves to suffer a bit. I just worry about Azat crossing the line or getting shot by one of Azize’s men.
dondi356, I do think Reyyan did smash the avocados of the would-be rapist with a glancing blow from a knee. Gosh, I hope Miran does save her, because I do not want recap a rape scene on Monday.
Thank you dondi356!
I haven’t seen last night’s episode or read the recap, but I glanced over VVS’s comment and spotted the reference to “avocados” and see that Reyyan may have smashed some.
It’s National Avocado Day!! Let’s all have some guacamole!! 😋
Many thanks, dondi356, for yet another magnificent recap. Like VVS, I enjoyed it considerably more than watching the episode. For one thing, the episode didn't have your terrific asides, such as "The others try to pull Sultana off Handan [but I say, let her finish the job]." YES! I loved Sultana's choking Handan, and I was cheering her on. I also enjoyed your sardonic "[wow, what a guy]" when Miran offers Reyyan some water.
I confess that I laughed as I watched Sultana trying to run in heels. Too bad she hadn't watched the opening episode of La Reina del Sur, where Teresa Mendoza escapes by abandoning her heels and fleeing barefoot.
Though there are things to enjoy, I'm afraid I'm still disappointed in this novela. I realize that telenovelas are well-known for being unsubtle and exaggerated. I've at times said that if they were in English, I'd never watch them. I started to watch them to improve my wretched Spanish, and that's still the main reason I continue. For the most part, I do enjoy them. And I love the fact that the Turkish novelas are dubbed with a clearer Spanish than I generally find in native Spanish novelas. But what makes me increasingly unhappy with Hercai, in addition to what I said yesterday about Miran, is the continually over-the-top acting by a series of cartoon characters.
A couple of things about last night's episode surprised me. One was Miran's not having enough cash to pay for the gasoline. Huh? He goes to great lengths preparing his kidnapping of Reyyan, including getting clothes for Reyyan and making sure that all the Sadoglu cars are damaged so they can't pursue him. But though he anticipates a long trip, he doesn't think to provide himself with a good deal of cash? Indeed, not even enough to pay for a tank of gas? He can't always use a credit card.
And just as Miran failed to tell Reyyan about his being married to Gonul, so he fails to tell her about the assassination plot he had just uncovered and foiled. She would certainly have been shocked, but I suspect she would soon believe him and feel increasing trust and gratitude. (And I would feel gratitude for his thereby shortening the novela.)
I very much enjoyed the way you ended your recap: "We will have to wait until Monday for Miran to show up just in time to save her. No spoiler, just assuming we will follow the formula." Yup. Again, many thanks!
Fantastic recap, dondi! Your snark and my own thoughts were in tune last night. I loved all of your asides.
Ye Gods! The shrieking women last night! I guess the point we are meant to see is that Turkish mothers love their children more than other mothers! The actor playing Sultana must have needed to lie down with a cool cloth over her forehead after that emotional extravaganza.
How I loved Sultana and Elif right up in BG's face, rightly saying that every awful thing that's happened to the Aslanbeys is her fault. Someone here a while back asked why Esma puts up with this. She surely looked like she was in pain last night. She's such a lovely person and cares about all the grandchildren, including her maybe son, Firat.
That was a terrific reveal about Miran finding the assassin. I'm back at his table on the patio. But why, oh why, didn't he tell her why he kidnapped/rescued her? Could it be he didn't want her to know how truly evil her granddaddy is? If that's the case, that's a mistake. Nasuh is like a coiled cobra in the grass. Reyyan needs to know her enemy.
Interesting. The last thing I remember seeing was the would-be rapist looming over Reyyan. I don't remember seeing her knee him in the avocados nor run off. Second glass of wine at fault?
Azat put Gonul in her place reminding her she asked for Reyyan's hand. And he should tell her he wouldn't touch her with a ten-foot pole so she can just shut up about her virtue. Of course, if the kindly townspeople of Midyat find out she spent all that time with Azat...well...the same old, same old...dishonor.
Zehra was great in the scene where she told Sultana her daughter was not there. Even after Sultana got in a nasty dig about how SHE wouldn't have left without her child.
I was hoping Azat would put a bag over Gonul's head. I was sick and tired of her hysterics.
And, yes, Yaren only wants Miran to survive so her magical thinking can continue about his being her adoring husband.
Thank you, dondi.
The flashback of Miran finding out about GT's plot to kill Reyyan explains his actions. That was the way he found to save her. I think if he just warned Reyyan or Hazar or Zehra, they would not have believed him, and considered it one more of his lies. That is probably the reason he did not explain it to Reyyan during the water stop. She would just laugh and think that was one of his lies, like Hazar being a killer, and make it even less likely to change her mind.
VVS, interesting point about Hanife knowing Azize. Handan had an idea to put a spy in Aslanbey house. What about Azize? With 27 year of preparation for the attack, it would make sense that she has a spy in Sadoglu house. One thing that indicates it is the fact that she knows Reyyan is not a biological daughter of Hazar. How did she know that?
Welcome Lucio! Thank you for the comments! Wow, I hadn’t even gone that deep dive to think about Hanife being a spy, but that does make a lot of sense. How does Azize know that Reyyan isn’t the bio child of Hazar? I am just not sure that the Sadoglu family except for Nasuh and now Azat know the truth, but who knows. Something else to toss into our crockpot of theories!
Dondi , wow, I can't believe that you are recapping this show and every episode of "La Hiya" . Thank you for all the time, talent, and effort you are devoting . Please know that I look forward to the recaps everyday. They are bright spots in my day.
Chick, I had lunch the other day with my friend who was a high school Spanish teacher , and she was scandalized when I started talking about watching the Mexican telenovelas for about 13 or 14 years after finding Melanama's (Jane's) Pratie Place (which became Caray Caray) where she was translating "Alborada. " I felt bad because she is a wonderful person and a dear, longtime friend. I dont think she realizes how special and caring the people here at CarayCaray are .Friendships, have formed, and friends have been lost . Happy and sad news has been shared here . The wit and wisdom shared is wonderful . Pure connections have formed without ever meeting in the flesh .
Susanlynn I have had a similar experience in my long-turn Spanish class. One of the classmates I've been taking Advanced Spanish with for many years just about sneers when telenovelas are mentioned. Our current teacher, with a Mexican mother and a Scots father, and I sometimes chat about novelas. He used to watch them with his mother and doesn't think they're beneath him, even though he has a doctorate in Spanish Language literature!
The sneering guy only likes Borges, Felizberto Hernandez and other writers who like to create puzzling novels full of symbolism.
My advice to watch novelas came from a co-worker originally from Mexico many years ago. Graciela thought my comprehension would improve and clued me in to when a new one was starting. It's very hard, with at the time barely intermediate Spanish to grasp who's who and why they hate each other in mid-stream of a novela. My first was El Privilegio de Amar, which I loved. Graciela and I still work together and she's been a true pleasure to work with for so many years.
I also found Jane's Pratie Place blog long, long ago. And watched things move to Caray, Caray. Yes, our friendships are real. We've lost a couple along the way and it was very sad. I have been grateful to Melinama ever since for setting up our wonderful community.
Thx for the outstanding recaps. Greatly appreciated.
I'm been thinking about the galan discussion regarding Miran. For me...in most these TNs the galans are jerks in the beginning and they eventually redeem themselves...Miran is no different...assuming this TN sticks to the formula.
Galan or not...Miran is a far better human being than GT Nasuh. And he offers a better future for Reyan vs her staying in that konuk. She has no idea how much or why GT hates her. She's spent her entire life looking up to and trying to please him knowing he doesn't favor or encourage her. That's got to be disappointing and lonely.
GTs plot to have her killed vs marring Azat is rather ridiculous so glad Miran stumbled across that info. Too bad he didn't just tell Reyan about the plot but it probably doesn't serve the storyline for her to know now....assuming she finds out.
I cringe at GTs gratuitous beat downs of Reyan. They all know that they were all duped by Miran and his family but yet GT takes this opportunity to belittle, berate and beat Reyan down as if she was the one who asked Miran to come into her life. If there is going to be a PSA in this TN...I sure hope they send the message that what GT has down to Reyan is unacceptable BS. She was an innocent baby brought into a family she did not choose. I also blame her parents for keeping her in that environment. I'm sure that they've seen the disparate treatment between her...Azat and Yaren over the years but for the sake of a secret or image...let her grow up in an environment were she's treated less than. They had to have seen her suffering over the years. Wonder how many beatings she's endured over the years. These conservative cultures are stifling and abusive.

Dondi356, I will just repeat what I wrote on the Univisión page—you are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! Thank you for such a spectacular recap!
I’m so glad to see some return to the Miran table!! He still has a ways to go, but he is slowing getting there. That flashback came in at just the right time! I think one of the things driving Miran is keeping Reyyan alive and well; yes, all for him and he goes about it as gracefully as a mad bull, but he is slowly learning to be patient and more understanding of Reyyan’s feelings.
“Straight shot of tequila” VVS?? Dang! I’m impressed! I can barely take a cocktail…or maybe a wine cooler! And…
“Oh my word, all those hysterical women last night were very annoying.” YESSS!!! I would say they needed a good slpap, but they'd all be slapping each other. And oh how I loved seeing Sultana grab and choke Handan, but at close look, you could see that her fingers were not pressed against Sultana’s throat…so that ruined the moment for me. Bleh!
“Did anyone else think Hanife might actually know Azize?” (from VVS) I have been bothered by Hanife’s reactions and looks for a while..at times she looks antagonistic. I like Lucio’s idea that she may be a spy..or she may even have a closer tie to Azize. IF this were true, then Hanife’s idea to marry Nasuh may very well be another of Azize’s plot for revenge! Good grief…the plot thickens!! And in regards to Azize knowing that Reyyan is not Hazar’s bio child,...that depends on how long Hanife has been working for the Sadoglu’s. If she was there when Hazar married Zehra-with-child (and if she is a spy), then Hanife could have relayed the info.
Juanita, “I confess that I laughed as I watched Sultana trying to run in heels. “ You weren’t the only one laughing! And I laughed even more when she was on her hands and knees; I was expecting her to start barking…or give out a long howl LOL
Novelera, (regarding Miran) “ But why, oh why, didn't he tell her why he kidnapped/rescued her? Could it be he didn't want her to know how truly evil her granddaddy is? “ I think it’s something along that line. IIRC, Reyyan had told him that GT had finally accepted her and defended her after everyone assumed that Miran was trying to “buy” her. Miran probably didn’t want to burst her little bubble.
VVS, "I do not want recap a rape scene on Monday." Oh I hope it doesn't get to that! Miran needs to put the pedal to the medal and get there to save Reyyan once again.
Chick...I too thought Miran didn't want to burst Reyan's bubble about GT for the sake of the plot...but wish he would have told her but I realize this is a plot device mostly like.
He might not know have known about GT's hatred toward her but her life has been in peril ever since he executed his family revenge plot on the Sodoglus. She will never be safe in her own home as long as Yaren's jealousy lerks and GTs resentment rules. Not sure what Miran is planning to do with her long term but hope it involves her not returning to that konuk. She will only be verbally and physically abused he if she returns. But as long as Miran is married...there is no future for him and her. He needs to get divorced ASAP.
Reyan does have spunk and a fighting spirit. She did kick that trucker in the avocados...so here's to hoping she gets away unscathed...I too can't stomach her being abused by that trucker.
I don't recall who mentioned fast forwarding thru the moaning and waling scenes but I usually just turn down the volume on these scenes. I can't take it either so I hope this is not one of those TNs where it's going to happen every epi...that's tiring

Thank you, everyone, for watching, reading and commenting.
I have to admit the recap was difficult because of all the hysterics. You said it novelera: “Ye Gods! The shrieking women last night!” and I LOL’d at your: “The actor playing Sultana must have needed to lie down with a cool cloth over her forehead after that emotional extravaganza.” And this: “I was hoping Azat would put a bag over Gonul's head.”
VVS and Rgv Chick, I did pick up on Hanife. They made sure to keep that camera close up on her which made it seem there was something more to what she was saying. And put that together with her mission to become Nasuh’s wife and the lady of the mansion…. Agree it’s an interesting idea Lucio had about a spy in the Sadoglu konak.
And VVS, if you like tequila shots, you must join us for season 3 of La Reina del Sur! You have time to catch up with seasons 1 and 2. I highly recommend it as one of the all-time greatest TNs I’ve ever seen.
Juanita, I’m sorry you are struggling. I’m hoping things settle a bit. Miran’s behavior is bothersome, and the “over-the-top” stuff can become a distraction. Do you remember “Cennet”? So much soap, you could taste it! A lot of “ham” was served. Difference is, it was easier to laugh it off in that show. I’m with you here: “Indeed, not even enough to pay for a tank of gas?” and I LOL’d at—" (And I would feel gratitude for his thereby shortening the novela.)” And I always love a mention of LRDS…
Susanlynn, thanks for your kind words. Glad to see you here. I’m not as long-time as you and others, but I have a great appreciation for what Jane created and the wonderful people here who uphold her legacy. This is a great place to be! I found Caray through “Telenovela World”. And, I get mixed reactions from people when I say I watch TNs, too. They really look at me screwy when I say I watch Turkish dizi.
Nett, it’s a fair assessment: “in most these TNs the galans are jerks in the beginning and they eventually redeem themselves..” Some are easier to forgive than others.
Rgv Chick, before you even mentioned it I had some guacamole on toast for breakfast! Loved this: “ I was expecting her [Sultana] to start barking…or give out a long howl LOL”
The Miran debate will continue. He did score some points yesterday by thwarting the attempt on Reyyan and whisking her away. His lack of verbal communication is very frustrating. I’m ready to wrap him into a cowhide burrito and deprogram him!
I'm 99% sure Miran will save Reyyan from a rape. Poor girl has already been "dishonored" by him and he's the only one who is allowed.

Wow, a lively discussion . I just discovered last week that I get Telemundo , so I was late to this partay. May I ask if Miran and Reyyan cosummated their fake noche de boda?
Well, I can't wait to see what happens next tomorrow night . I guess I will be surfing between this show and " So Nos Dejan" which is on at the same time on Univision . ..or perhaps I will record one .
Order a whiskey sour on the rocks for me . We used to enjoy one on special occasions ...birthdays, anniversaries. Wine and beer just put me to sleep. I guess it is the nitrates or nitrates or something . Cheers
A lot of the following comments resonated with me too. The cry fest and almost unbearable shrieking of the women—- made my ears hurt, but even still, I was completely sympathetic. Zehra’s gesture towards Sultana was gracious and kind. Something Zehra herself didn’t receive. I loved, loved, loved Sultana choking Handan—— the witch should’ve passed out, hit her head and been relegated to coma status for the rest of the novela. I only like her when she beats Yaren, haha! Also Hanife, there is definitely something up with her. She almost acts like she has the right to demand what she does, and to say what she says. A spy, imo, would be much more low key and make it a point to fit in. Hanife is evil....you can see it in her eyes.
And yes, I’m also back at the Miran table, even though I’m not sure I ever really left it. I don’t like him because of the entitled way he acts, and because he treats Reyyan like his private possession after all that he’s put her through—— like DUDE, she is not your wife!, but I also know that he loves her, and that she will be much better off with him than in the snake pit. He is capable of kindness and tenderness in spite of the way Azize raised him. He’s a desperate man, and like the saying goes “ desperate times call for desperate measures,” which is exactly why Reyyan is in the situation that she’s in now.
Laughing at the bag over the head for Gonul, but did anyone notice a little bit of a “spark” between those two??? That would be another “star crossed” pairing, lol.....seems like an Azat and Elif pairing is on the horizon though......guess we have to wait and see.....
Thanks again Dondi 356 😁💯
Hi all. Just a brief reminder that we ask everyone to put the novela's label at the top of their postings. (In the case of Hercai: amor y venganza, the label is herc.) The label serves two purposes. In the present, people can sort through comments more easily and identify the ones that are relevant to the novela they're interested in. And in the future, people can apparently use the label to search the archives for discussions of a given novela.
If you're not sure what the label is for a particular novela, you can find the current labels listed on the two Telemundo y Más pages that appear each week.
¡Muchas gracias!
Susanlynn, the fake wedding was consummated. That was part of Azize’s multifaceted plan of revenge—to “dishonor” Hazar’s daughter and bring this great shame upon the Sadoglus.
Thank you, Carmella. I totally agree with you about the beauty of Southeast Turkey. These are ancient places with fascinating, complex histories. The bridge in the opening is a world heritage site. Reyyan mentioned the city of Urfa (Şanlıurfa). Göbekli Tepe, another world heritage site, is near there. Has anyone seen “The Gift” on Netflix?
I briefly thought about a Gonul/Azat pairing after the kidnap, too, but I’m still leaning towards Elif/Azat. They seem a better match for each other.
I wonder who edits the international episodes or if the international buyers have a choice in the editing at all. I think it would have been good for us to see the scene where Miran first saw Reyyan without knowing who she was.
dondi356
Carmella,
You and others have made a very compelling case for supporting Miran in spite of his excessively domineering ways. It's clear that Reyyan is better off with his kidnapping her rather than remaining in "the snake pit" to be tormented and qquite probably killed by Nasuh, his minions, and his hired assassins. And I agree that Miran does love Reyyan. If the novela follows the usual pattern, Miran will gain much-needed insight and mend his ways, and Reyyan and he will Live Happily Ever After. So I guess you've persuaded me to return to the Miran table.
I also enjoyed other aspects of your comments. I too cheered as Sultana choked Handan, and I especially loved your saying "I only like her when she beats Yaren." YES! And, like you, I love all the gorgeous scenes of Turkey.
dondi356, I think I remember Miran seeing Reyyan with some other young women in a store. IIRC, that's when she dropped the butterfly pin that he picked up. I think quite recently he said that had occurred three years ago, so it's possible he didn't know then who she was, just that he was attracted to her.
I have the feeling I'm mistaken about when this happened, but I do remember seeing it. Perhaps it was a flashback?
How fun to see and read all these great comments today! I appreciated the little history lesson on how Caray Caray was started, thank you Susanlynn and novelera. BTW, I make a mean whisky sour!
dondi356, thank you for the recommendation on watching La Reina del Sur 1& 2. If tequila is the star, I am in!
Glad to see a few more people back at the Miran table! It does seem that the galan’s do act like jerks but are redeemable.
Juanita, I think dondi356 can verify this, but when Miran first saw Reyyan and picked up her hair comb, it was before the venganza started. Firat did tell Miran then who Reyyan was. In one of the episodes I recently recapped, Miran told Firat that he carried that hair comb and Reyyan in his heart for 3 years, or at least that is what I thought I heard, before everything started. I had wondered from the first episode how he knew her when he almost crashed into Reyyan and Mavi on their morning ride.
I am also glad several others think that Hanife has something going on with Azzie and I like the idea that Hanife marrying Nasuh is another Azzie scheme to tear down the family.
I am not sure how I feel about Azat and Gonul pairing. I am more on the Elif side for Azat.
Like you RGV Chick, I hope Miran puts pedal to the metal and gets to that field quickly!
Yes, Miran and Reyyan did "consummate" in that cabin she subsequently burned down. I find Dondi's comment interesting and noted the contrast with what I thought. Dondi assumes the sex on that night was part of the plan. Can't explain it, but I thought he had not planned that, and instead was going to leave her untouched as the revenge. But ending up in a remote cabin instead of a fancy hotel made things somehow different. The way they filmed his making love to her (no skin showing as per the norm in the few dizis I've seen) caused me to think he just wanted to make love to her because he was falling in love with her. Wouldn't he have been brutish if the goal was to dishonor her? Of course the way some people in this part of the world apparently think, spending a night with someone is dishonor no matter what happens.
If this had been a Mexican novela with the same theme, she'd have definitely gotten pregnant. I suppose that could still be the case, but it hasn't seemed to me like that's going to happen, at least not until all is resolved and the two are happily married.
Novelera, I was asking because in "La Hiya" on Univision , Nare got pregnant on the noche de boda, so I was wondering if Reyyan might be pregnant .
VVS, I agree with what you said about that scene occurring 3 years ago, and hence before the venganza actually started (except of course in BG's sick mind). And that scene was when Miran picked up the butterfly comb, which he carried around since then. I posted that message only because someone (dondi356? you?) said she wished we'd seen the scene where Miran first sees Reyyan, before he even knows who she is. I thought perhaps that scene I mentioned was the one, and we HAD seen it.
About the wedding night: novelera, I assumed sex was part of the fake marriage plan so Reyyan would not be a virgin anymore and then get dumped. Forget that it was a set-up, it’s a very big deal for these people.
Sometimes, if a girl gets raped, if they don’t kill her, they marry her to her rapist. In Embajador, Akin raped Nare and so he figured he would get to marry her. In Fatmagul, they married her off to a guy they blamed for the rape.
But of course, Miran loved and still loves Reyyan, so it was very real for both of them. How much time has passed from the wedding night? Could there be a pregnancy?
About the hair comb: Juanita, Telemundo cut it, but I posted a YouTube link to the scene where Miran picked up the comb and followed Reyyan around the museum. It was about 3 years before the actual venganza and Firat told Miran who Reyyan was. The plan was for “Miran Aksoy” to gain the trust of the Sadoglus first. I think there was mention of it later, but the entire scene would have been good to see.
VVS, LRDS isn’t about tequila, but Teresa Mendoza drinks it like water. She can drink anyone under the table! Anyway, you won’t be sorry if you watch it.
dondi356
Many thanks, dondi356, for clearing up the mystery of the early episode. Yes, I knew I'd seen it, I guess I'd forgotten it was a via a YouTube link. Thanks for providing it.
BTW, I too assume that Miran's consumating the marriage was part of the original intention. Miran has said that he simply followed Azize's wishes, and I'm sure that her thirst for revenge would make her insist that Reyyan be fully "dishonored."
While I'm writing, I want to second what you said about La Reina del Sur. Season 1 was far and away the best novela I've ever seen. I was VERY skeptical when (about 8 or so years later) I heard there would be a season 2, but it turned out to be almost as good as season 1. Given how good seasons 1 and 2 were, I'm very hopeful about season 3.
