Hercai - #13 – Parte 1 de 4
Miran doesn’t throw Gonul under the bus after looking straight at her about the attempted murder of Reyyan. But he tells them all (everyone was awakened by the fuss) that, if it happens again, he’ll take drastic measures. No one is permitted near Reyyan’s door.
When Reyyan goes back to her room, he tells her she can go back to sleep; he’ll protect her. She refuses to have him stay in her room while she sleeps.
Sultana yells at her daughter, asking if she realizes what would have happened if Reyyan died. Azize comes in to hiss at them both [three vipers in the same room]. She tells them she knows what happened and, if she wanted Reyyan dead, she’d have done it a long time ago. She tells them that, if either of them disobeys her, she’ll fix it so Miran divorces Gonul.
Miran tells Reyyan that, since she doesn’t want him in the room even until she falls asleep, he’ll stay right outside. He closes the door and sits down leaning against the door. We see both sides of the door. She asks if he’ll stay there all night. When he says that he will she asks why he’s doing all of this. He replies it’s to protect her…so no one can ever hurt her. “So you are the only one who’s allowed to hurt me? What sin have I committed to deserve this vengeance?” He replies that she can’t ask him that. “Don’t I have the right to know why you did all this to me?” He replies: “if I told you the reason, I’d just hurt you more. Don’t ask.” [I assume he means she’d find out what Hazar did.] Gonul walks by and sees Miran’s vigil.
The next morning Bad Grannie opens her bedroom door, conveniently across from Reyyan’s cell door. She sees Miran, asleep and we hear her thoughts. “This will be your ruin, Asize Aslanbey. Miran loves this girl. Who spends the night watching outside a door?”
Reyyan also fell asleep on the other side of the door. She winces as if her back hurts. She opens the door and notices that Miran is bleeding. He gives Reyyan the key to the room. He tells her to keep it locked except when he’s there. Reyyan looks surprised. “Not locking me up?” She has a very slight smile on her face. Then she opens the packages she swore she didn’t want. She’s surprised that the shoes fit.
For some reason the Sadoglu have a business meeting in an open field. Someone tells Nasuh that they are ready to proceed with the project. Nasuh tells him that they’ll hold off on it. The lawyer arrives. Nasuh asks him: “Have you found a way to zafarnos (untie us, get us out of something)? The lawyer replies that Firat did it all legally. The lawyer says that he warned them and that there’s a huge fine for breaking the contract. Nasuh snaps at him that, if he’d been a professional, he would have prohibited him from signing the thing. [Way to deflect, Grandpa!] Nasuh orders the lawyer to get out of here and find him a solution.
Azize, hereafter often referred to as the witch arrives and is waiting with a bodyguard beside her car. Cihan starts to shout at her that the lands are Sadoglu lands and that she should leave. Nasuh tells him to cool his jets. He asks her: “Did you come here to die” The Witch No, it’s not my time. I have a lot still to do. It would have been the right thing for you to do (come for Reyyan). Instead you sent your daughter-in-law. You can’t even solve your own problems. Your granddaughter won’t leave my mansion until I say so. I won’t let her leave until she’s despised by the people of Midyat.”
Nasuh: “No. You didn’t come here for that. It’s because you fear my silence. You want to know what my next move will be. You’re afraid because I wouldn’t wait 27 years to act. I will do something so drastic that, not only Midyat, but the whole country will see. Your family should not go around unarmed.”
She keeps twisting that short string of beads. If they explained it, I don’t remember. Nasuh looks at her hands as if the beads have some significance for him. He tells Cihan that she’s planning something. “What more does this woman want from me?”
Hazar is on his cell with a guy he calls Osman. He asks him to buy a house in Istanbul for him and for his family. He also asks him to draw up a document in which he renounces his inheritance. He tells him that he has to leave Midyat with his family.
Miran is in his room preparing to change the dressing on his wound. Gonul comes in and insists on doing it for him. She does so, while getting very close to him.
Reyyan brings the tray with the dishes that were in her room to the kitchen. Esma and Keriman greet her warmly. She has on the dress that looked awful coming out of the bag but looks great on her. Esma gives her some warm milk and she accepts it with a smile. Gonul comes in and the room temperature drops. She makes a nasty remark and leaves.
Hercai - #13 – Parte 3 de 4
Firat and Miran are at the office. Firat tells him that there are too many contracts. Miran tells him to wait until they contact him. Firat asks once again…why Reyyan? He gets that dark look on his face and tells his friend that just because he protects her doesn’t mean he’s given up on the vengeance. He wants the Sadoglu completely ruined.
Just then Yaren arrives at Miran’s office. She blows right by Firat without even a greeting. She puts on quite the show, telling him about Gul with the bullet in her head. [The camera moves to Firat; one of us thought it might have been Firat instead of Azat who accidentally shot her.] Yaren gets tears in her eyes about her poor, poor cousin who won’t eat anything because she wants her sister.
Yaren’s bottom line is that she wants Miran to bring Reyyan to see her sister. Miran: “Are you crazy? Your grandfather wants to kill her.” She suggests bringing Reyyan at night. [I can’t quite figure out Yaren’s plan. If he does as she asks and she wants Nasuh to kill Reyyan, he’d also kill Miran on the spot.] Miran hasn’t agreed but looks like he’s thinking about it.
Keriman and Esma are still spoiling Reyyan in the kitchen when the witch shows up. “I see you left your room. Don’t get used to us. This is not good. What are you going to do locked up like a prisoner?” Reyyan gets to her feet. The witch goes on: “your situation is pretty bad. You must feel miserable. Your mother couldn’t take you. Your grandfather came here and didn’t even ask for you. He just came to threaten us. Your family will quickly forget about you. You’re not that important. You have nowhere to go and no family. Nasuh Sadoglu would never take back used goods like you to his mansion. I understand my grandson. He feels pity for you.”
She tells Esma to feed the poor creature. But Reyyan runs out. We see the witch’s satisfied expression. Esma, to her credit, just stares stonily at her. [So, how did the witch spend her youth? Pulling the wings off flies?]
Handan, aka Lady M, comes into the kitchen and finds Hanife, who suggests a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law talk. She tells Handan that she’s up to her neck in hot water. Handan tells her that she is the woman of the house. After she leaves Hanife smiles and says that Handan doesn’t know who she is yet, but soon she will.
At the Aslanbey house a woman named Sehriyar is talking to Esma in the kitchen. She is telling Esma about the terrible shape her family is in. Her brother is a gambler. They lost their house. If only she had work. Keriman has come in and pipes up that la señora said something about needing some more help. Esma doesn’t look eager, for some reason, but says she’ll talk to Azize.
Miran comes to the door, asking Reyyan to open it. He notices she’s wearing the clothes he bought. He asks if he can come in. She looks miserable and tells him that of course he can. It’s his house and she’s the prisoner. He asks why she’s crying. She reminds him of everything he’s done to her. She says that she doesn’t want his pity. He tells her that he doesn’t pity her. She replies that his grandmother is right. He does pity her. He wants to see her misery. “You ruined my life and then want to be a hero, helping me.” She gets angry, asking why he continues to keep her here, keeps humiliating her. You can see he is on the verge of telling her why, but then just says he doesn’t want her to die.
Hercai - #13 – Parte 4 de 4
Miran goes into the dining room where the rest of the family are seated. He tells them he’s not dining there. “From now on, no one speaks to Reyyan, not even one word. And no one is to tell her that I’m married to Gonul. It doesn’t matter who tells her that, I’ll blame Gonul." And, looking at Gonul, "I swear by my name that I’ll divorce you without even a second thought."
Miran leaves. Gonul leaves. Elif leaves. Esma leaves. The harpies remain. The witch tells Sultana that she is probably thinking that one day she won’t be at this table and Sultana will be the lady of the house. Sultana tells her that she knows why she’s treated this way; it’s because she couldn’t give her a male grandson. Azize replies: “I had three sons. If you only knew what I did to become the señora of this house, you’d kiss my feet.”
Sultana replies: “You’re quite mistaken. I was able to give you a grandson, but your son took him from me. And you know what I did after that. I gave you the most precious thing I have, my daughter as a bride for your grandson. And so she’d give you the boy that your son took from me. But I won’t let you destroy my daughter!” They both agree that Gonul is herself an Aslanbey. Sultana: “You ought to protect her the way you protect Elif. If you want more boys, make sure Miran doesn’t leave here.”
Elif tells Gonul she’s beside herself, but it’s partly her fault. She could have refused to go and ask for Reyyan’s hand. Gonul then fires back by telling Elif that BG is going to present Elif as Esma’s daughter.
[Anybody read or see a production of García-Lorca’s La Casa de Bernarda Alba? This houseful of women with grudges and secrets reminds me of that play.]
Elif goes in to confront BG. “Are you going to take away my name?” BG replies that it’s to protect her. If the Sadoglu… Elif stands up to her. But at the end she’s told to be quiet. Elif seems to be the only person who matters to BG at all.
Sehriyar is walking down the street and gets a call from Esma to tell her that she got the job. Then she calls someone she calls señora to say that she has the job and she’ll find out all the secrets of this family. But she should not forget the promise to make her a millionaire.
The Sadoglu are at dinner. Gul continues to refuse to eat even though Nasuh tries wheedling her. She leaves the table. Nasuh looks at Azat and then tells Handan to contact a worthy family with a daughter to marry Azat. And then he tells Cihan that he and Azat will be in charge of the business. [Not sure what happened here; is Hazar out because he stuck up for his daughter?]
Zehra is sitting on a high patio and looking miserable. Hazar approaches, sits beside her, and takes her hand. He tells her that the vengeance is all his fault. “They suppose that I killed Miran’s father.” [I notice he says “they suppose” not I did it.] Zehra: “This is why! It’s not because he loves Reyyan!” It appears Hazar is going to tell her everything. Let’s hope we don’t get another disappointment tomorrow.
Terrific recap novelera! I always appreciate the extra time you take to give us some Spanish translation. The Witch and the Vipers seem more fitting names these episodes for Azize, Sultana and Gonul. [So, how did the witch spend her youth? Pulling the wings off flies?] BG aka the witch is a horrible individual. I can’t even call her a person! There was definitely some significance between her and Nasuh in the meadow standoff as she twisted those worry beads. The sinister look on her face was chilling. I would like to know the story behind her becoming the head of the household of Aslanbey. She said Sultana, Viper #2,, would kiss her feet if she knew.
After Viper #3 Gonul rewraps Miran’s wound and left, I had to laugh when he said at least she didn’t cry.
The split door scene with Miran and Reyyan was beautifully done. I was glad to see Reyyan finally change out of that orange dress! She was impressed that her shoes fit perfectly.
The new character Sehriyar is an interesting twist. I wonder who hired her to spy?
So did I miss something? I thought Reyyan did know Miran was married? Does she not know it is to Viper #3? Now poor Elif is going to be part of the witch’s plan.
I heard Nasuh tell Cihan that Hazar no longer had his head in the game for business so that is why Cihan and Azat would take over. Also, I think I heard him say it was time for Azat to stop wondering around the streets and get involved in the business. Poor dude is going to get married off to someone Lady M chooses.
Now that we know Hazar did not kill Miran’s son, there is definitely history with Azize and Nasuh. The familiarity between the two does make me think that they had something going on back in the day.
I did not see the play you mentioned novelera, but the women of the Aslanbey sure do have issues! Thank you for starting Friday off with a bang!
Thank you, Novelera, excellent recap and the sides were spot on! The witches, vipers, and hissing had me smiling throughout your recap. And A belated thatnk you to VVS for her exemplary Wednesday recap!
I was so relieved to hear Hazar say that the Aslanbey "suppose" that he killed Azize's son. Here's hoping for a flashback with all the details, but I think I'm hoping for too much.
Was the meeting standoff planned. It seemd to me that the Sadogul clan was there to meet with the attorneys and the witch just showed up and crashed the party. I had to laugh when I saw the prayer beads and was expecting the witch to break them. That seemed to be a habit for one of the characters in "La Hija del Embajador." The witch's facial expressions during the meeting were confusing; she kept going from smirking to frowning to sinister. Was she trying to confuse Nasuh to death?
I can't get over the chemistry between Reyyan and Azize, I get chills when they look at each other and the Spanish theme song starts playing. And VVS, I agree that the split door scene was amazingly done. It seems that Reyyan is about the only who doesn't know that Miran is married.
I had a feeling Sehriyar was up to no good. The "señora" has to be either Handan or Yaren; my bet is on Yaren who is proving to be much more assertive and aggressive than her mother.
I sure hope Miran mentions to Reyyan that it was Yaren who talked him into taking her to see Gul. Reyyan will know that Yaren is up to no good. (Hoping for too much again, right?)
Vipers is a fitting name for them. Miran might think he’s the man of the house with those declarations but doubt thats going to stop them. Those vipers have their own agendas.
Gonul, if miran has always been this way with you how did u fall in love? Funny (for me) how he said he would blame her no matter what if reyyan found out about their marriage. Does reyyan even kno her marriage ceremony was fake?
Agree with yall on the split door scene! Loved how Azize thought who spends the night outside watching the door (talking about miran), but then we see Reyyan also asleep by the door.
And i simply cannot stand Yaran’s saint act.

Muchas gracias, novelera, for another wonderful recap. It captured a number of statements that I missed, and provided me with another useful Spanish word (zarar) that I hope I'll remember. And yes, "vipers" is the perfect word to describe the three generations of Aslanbey women: Azize, Sultana, and Gonul. I wonder how Elif managed to turn out so differently. I can't wait to find out more about her history.
I assumed that the beads Azize held during her meeting with Nasuh were simply worry beads, but the attention Nasuh seemed to pay to the beads suggests there's more to them (and to the relationship between Nasuh and Azize) than I thought at the time.
Like you, I noticed that Hazar said "they suppose that I killed Miran's father." I think we were all relieved to hear him say that. But that just makes me wonder even more strongly what really happened.
Arrgh--Miran may be smart in many ways, but I think there's just about NO chance that he can see through Yaren's supposed concern for Gul and Reyyan. He's wise enough to recognize that Nasuh will very likely kill Reyyan if he sees her, but Miran is probably NOT wise enough to recognize that bringing Reyyan to see Gul at night will just make a trap easier.
Finally, welcome klc! I'm really glad you've joined the conversation.
Sorry so late but, thanks, novelera. Great recap! “[So, how did the witch spend her youth? Pulling the wings off flies?]”, priceless. Nothing much for me to add. Everyone’s covered it all.
I enjoyed the scene where Azize came to see Nasuh out in the field. She looked at him with a combination of evil, amusement, and pity. I’d like to see more scenes with them together.
In the Turkish, Esma introduced Sehriyar as her aunt’s granddaughter. She referred to Esma as “abla”, older sister. Used as a term of respect.
Hopefully I’ll get to recap an explanation of sorts tonight.

Thanks all. Mr. Google, as usual, was very helpful about Muslim prayer beads. I thought they were just a Catholic thing, but no. It said that this string of beads usually contains 99 beads to recite the 99 names of Allah. The ones shown are smooth beads all the same size. The ones the witch had in her hand, IIRC, were of different sizes, and her bead set was short. She appeared to me to want Nasuh to see him and at one point, while he was looking at them, she closed her fist on them, getting them out of his sight. Something is going on there.
Thanks, VVS, for the mention that Hazar is no longer in charge of the Sadoglu businesses. I had forgotten that. I have a feeling Cihan is waaaay less capable. But Tyrant Nasuh is only interested in punishing people who don't do everything he says.
Juanita, the word I translated was zafar. I had not heard it used the way Nasuh used it. I've heard it used to mean set sail or leave on a voyage in any kind of machine, airplane, boat, or car. But most commonly used when people are leaving on a boat, at least he usage I've heard. Also, you are right that Miran would be incapable of realizing Yaren's intentions. She did play that scene masterfully, definitely fooling Firat and probably Miran into thinking she's a loving person. Actually she's never shown any spite toward Gul, but she's more than happy to use her health for her, I think, trap.
klc, I agree. Except for the fact that she's a lot like other telenovela "other women"; i.e, completely obsessed with the galán,it's hard to imagine why Gonul would think Miran would want to be with her.
Rgv Chick, I also think Azize just crashed the Sadoglu meeting. How she knew about it is likely just another one of those telenovela magic things we never get an explanation for.
I think Miran giving Reyyan a key was a pretty necessary plot device. Her being locked in a room the whole time would not make for interesting scenes. It was so sad that she had a moment of people caring about her in the kitchen and a few timid smiles on her part, only to have BG ruin everything. I predict that Esma and Keriman will continue to try to help her.
Dondi, I am also rooting for you to get a big REVEAL tonight.
NOVELERA..THANKS FOR ..thursday's ..RECAP
AND YOUR EARLY EFFORT.....wow!!.... TIMELY TOO!!
i had a minute ..but ...??
I DONT SEE FRIDAY'S yet... so I cant comment.... on last night..........?!
...enjoy... see you later??.... maybe??!!??
WHAT. AN. EPISODE.
Tell me the rest, Hazar Bey.
Hazar tearily begins, I loved someone when I was young. A long time ago. Dilsah… [Yes, that’s Miran’s mother’s name. I’m thinking about your crockpot theory, VVS!]. We were to be married. But we didn’t. While I was in the military, the Aslanbeys forced her to marry one of them. When I returned and found out, I went crazy. I was destroyed. She was suffering… she was being tortured. I had to do it, Hazar sobs.
I talked to her, Hazar recounts, and we ran away together. Zehra says, you kidnapped a married woman… Hazar replies, no, it’s not what you think. There was more, he says, which I promise I will tell you. As we fled, Ms. Azize sent her men to find us. My father eventually found us. The men trapped Dilsah and I didn’t know what happened after that. But I do know one thing, Hazar says, all this is my fault.
Zehra is upset this was kept from her. She says, I could have protected my daughter. Why didn’t you tell me, she asks? Hazar stutters, Zehra…I… Zehra. She turns away from him. If I’d only known, everything would have been different. My daughter would be safe.
Miran is sitting on the stairs. He replays Yaren’s words: she won’t eat. All she does is cry for her sister. It was all we could to get her to take her medicine. Bring Reyyan home, let Gul see her sister if only for ten minutes. Miran thinks of what Reyyan told him: my sister is fighting for her life. We’ve never been apart. Just let me see her for a moment. Miran gets up and goes upstairs to Reyyan’s room.
She opens the door for him but she’s not happy to see him. Why did you come? To see me die of sadness? No, he answers with a sort of smile, I came to take you to see your sister. She’s shocked, what did you say? You will really take me? He tells her, Gul hasn’t eaten anything since she returned home from the hospital.
Reyyan throws her arms around Miran without a thought. My sister’s home! Thank you! His arms, his hands slowly move to return Reyyan’s hug. Reyyan says she’s missed Gul so much and Gul must miss her, too. She’s going to be so happy. How did you find out, Reyyan asks? I just found out, he replies keeping the reason secret.
A bit of reality sinks in with Reyyan. We are going to the mansion? But you know…. yes, Miran knows. We will go at night and sneak in while everyone is asleep, he tells her. He sets some conditions: you can only see your sister for 20 minutes and afterwards, we’ll leave together and return here. Reyyan says she couldn’t stay there even if she wanted. All that matters to her is seeing Gul, so she accepts. They will leave at midnight. Miran smiles. He looks much more handsome when he smiles.
Miran and Reyyan wait outside the Sadoglu konak. Miran says they need to wait for a signal. He doesn’t tell her who it’s from when he gets it. They head for another entrance and Reyyan wonders how he knows it. Miran says this was the way he came out.
They enter and Miran helps Reyyan down from a wall. They come face to face for a very brief romantic moment. He instructs Reyyan, Gul is in your room, go straight there. We will meet back here in 20 minutes. He warns her, if you don’t come back in time, I’ll cause a scene. Either we leave here together, or we die together. I appreciate it, she tells him.
Before she goes, he asks, are you going to come back to me? Promise me. It’s not like I have anywhere else to go, she says with a tinge of sadness. As she heads off, she thinks, a few days ago I thought a miracle had taken place. I was grateful to leave this mansion. That day was no miracle, it was my condemnation. Now I’m sneaking in like a thief. Dad, mom, I’m leaving a piece of my heart with you.
As Reyyan utters those words, Zehra wakes up with a start. Hazar asks and Zehra tells him, I saw Reyyan in my dream.
dondi356
Reyyan enters Gul’s room. She kisses her little sister. Gul wakes up, am I dreaming? Not a dream, Reyyan says, I came to see my beautiful tulip. They hug. I waited so long, Gul tells her. I heard you were not eating, Reyyan says. Gul tells her she’s starving but she did it so her sister would come. Gul wants to wake up their mom. Reyyan says, no one can know she’s here. I only want to see you tonight.
Gul asks her sister if she was afraid to come alone at this time of night. Reyyan says that Miran came with her. Gul asks, where is Miran?
Miran is waiting and worrying if Reyyan will return. He heads to Gul’s room and peeks at the sisters through the window. [it seems as if he can hear them through the window. Is that possible?] Gul says she wanted to see Miran, she misses him. He never called or came to the hospital. Didn’t you tell him what happened, she asks, was it so he wouldn’t get sad? Gul notices that her sister is upset. She has one more question: what’s wrong, doesn’t Miran love you anymore?
Reyyan gets weepy. She thinks she’s lying to Gul but we know there is truth in her answer—of course he loves me very much. [we see Miran nodding] He takes good care of me and treats me well. Gul asks if he buys her chocolate, balloons and flowers. Do they go on picnics? Is their home pretty? Yes, it’s like a palace, Reyyan replies, you can visit when you get better. I am happy there, she tells Gul, don’t worry about me.
Gul asks about Reyyan’s wedding dress and tells her that her own was ruined when she was shot. Her mom threw it away. Miran turns away from the window and looks upset. Reyyan says she will buy Gul a prettier dress. Tomorrow? As soon as possible, Reyyan answers and tears fall.
Gul tells Reyyan that she dreamed of her in the hospital. They were holding balloons and flying together. You were happy and smiling in my dream. Gul wipes Reyyan’s tears and tells her not to cry. She asks her sister to sing her a song. Reyyan starts to sing. Miran walks away.
Song: Bebeğin Beşiği Çamdan / Baby’s Cradle - Ebru Şahin (yes, the actress is singing.)

I couldn’t find a good translation online, if you want a translation, I’ll try it in a separate posting. Let me know.
Miran looks at his watch. Two minute warning. Reyyan tucks the sleeping Gul back into bed. She entrusts her to God—“Allah'a emanet ol”. As Reyyan leaves the room someone grabs her by the hair.
Miran checks his watch again. She should be here, something’s not right. He sees Reyyan being led away by Nasuh. And a gun put to his head. It’s Bad Grannie! I won’t let these people kill you, she tells Miran. Were you going to shoot me, he asks? She says she’s there to save Miran from his own folly.
Miran says he can’t leave, Nasuh is going to kill Reyyan. Azize tries to get him to go but Miran insists on saving Reyyan. Bad Grannie even threatens to withhold her blessing, “hakkimi helal etmem sana”. He tells her he doesn’t need it. He is not leaving without Reyyan.
Nasuh drags Reyyan to a room. You shamelessly entered the Sadoglu home, he growls. He pulls out his gun and aims point blank at her head. I’m going to kill you. She starts, I know you want me to die. You want me wiped off the face of the earth. I always needed your love, grandfather. I’d look in your eyes and beg but you never loved me.
Meanwhile, Miran snaps at grannie, let me go. Azize relents but cautions, the guards are armed, if they see you or hear you, they will shoot immediately. They will kill Reyyan and anyone else they find. Miran says he will be careful, and he takes off.
Yaren comes out of her room savoring her victory. She ducks back when she hears footsteps. It’s Miran and now she’s worried.
dondi356
Nasuh still has the gun pointed at Reyyan. She asks him to remember when she was a child. I wanted to be a doctor, but you beat me so badly, I never shared my dreams again. No one dared to confront you and support me. No one said “Reyyan is going to school”. And once again, there is no one to tell you, “Reyyan has a right to live.”
Reyyan sinks to the floor. Nasuh is affected, he lowers his gun. Reyyan continues, little by little, it wore me down. It broke my wings until I disappeared. Reyyan grabs the gun and puts it to her head! Pull the trigger and end my life, she cries, destroy my dreams once and for all. Nasuh is shaking. It’s time to kill Reyyan, she tells him.
Miran sees this through the window and he breaks into the room. Miran and Nasuh point their guns at each other. If you touch Reyyan, Miran states, I swear I will kill you. Nasuh replies, I see you decided to die together. Who the hell do you think you are? You come to my house, armed to protect the girl you dishonored? Nasuh asks, if you are willing to die for her, then why did you hurt her?
Miran answers, Reyyan was entrusted to me. Let us go or blood will run. Miran motions for Reyyan to move away. Nasuh says, let it be so. May blood resolve this conflict. Miran tells Nasuh that Reyyan has committed no sin.
Reyyan makes a bold move, she walks between them. She tells Miran, let him kill me. Let him restore his honor. Miran pleads…. Reyyan…. She says there’s no way out for her. Miran shouts at Nasuh to drop the gun. But Nasuh grabs Reyyan and holds his gun to her head. He tells Miran to drop his weapon or else. Miran complies and puts his gun down, now let her go. This is between you and me, he tells Nasuh.
Nasuh growls, if it were between us, why didn’t you make it a matter of honor? Why didn’t you get revenge on the Sadoglu men? Gul appears in the doorway and gasps! She runs to Miran and hugs him. I thought my sister left, but she brought you to me. Miran tells her, we wanted to surprise you.
Gul says, the only person who could’ve brought you was my abuelito. Nasuh tells Gul to go back to her room. She ignores that request. Miran bends down and tells Gul, I came to see you princess. Gul asks if they are going to spend the night. Nasuh asks Gul again to go back to bed. She won’t go because Reyyan and Miran are there.
Miran tells her that they have to go now but she can come with them some other day. Is it a deal? Gul is excited. She asks, to your new house? Yes, to the new house, Miran shoots a look to Nasuh. He gets up and says, we are going to leave now. He takes Reyyan’s hand. Gul says she will walk them to the door. Nasuh tries once more to get Gul to go back to bed. Please abuelo, I haven’t seen Miran in a long time. She takes each by the hand and walks them out of the room. Nasuh follows.
Yaren watches from the balcony.
Gul asks Miran, will you come back for me? I will, he replies, looking at Nasuh. Reyyan tells her sister to go back to bed and make sure to eat. Gul agrees because being hungry isn’t fun. The sisters hug. Miran and Reyyan leave the konak.
Gul tells Nasuh, you’re the best, most powerful abuelo in the world. You brought Miran and my sister. I love you very much, abuelito. Abuelito’s been foiled.
Reyyan stops Miran outside, what revenge were you talking about? Not now, he replies. She demands to know why she paid such a high price. She refuses to move from the spot unless he talks. He agrees to tell her but not here, unless she wants to add to her parents’ suffering. They go.
Azize has been waiting and watches from a car nearby. She leaves.
dondi356
Yaren bemoans her fate out on the balcony and Azat comes home very drunk. She tries to keep him quiet. He doesn’t care who hears him. She pulls him into his room and starts to reprimand him. I want you to remember who you are. You are the only grandson of two great dynasties. You are Azat Aga! You should impose fear and respect. He tells her to get out.
She won’t go, she’s got more to unload on him. Pull yourself together, she exhorts, don’t be so pathetic. Everyone out there ought to respect you. They should be afraid to look you in the eyes. Nobody respects me, Azat says, I don’t even respect myself.
Yaren tries another angle. She bends down by his chair and touches his arm. I respect you, brother. I believe in you. I know how much you love Reyyan and I know you will be with her soon. You can achieve whatever you set your mind to. I haven’t achieved anything, he replies. She tells Azat to stop behaving like a loser, he’s not inept. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. She will help him.
He scoffs, you will help? Forget it. He knows his sister well. He tells her, you don’t help anyone unless it benefits you. Azat flops into his bed. She continues to try to manipulate her brother, I know we don’t have the best relationship, but I love you very much. You’re my blood. I can’t stand seeing you like this. It’s simple he says, Reyyan doesn’t love me.
Yaren sits on his bed. Do you think Reyyan is happy? She’s a married man’s lover! She needs you more than ever. She needs you to be strong and be by her side. She needs you to pull yourself together. Yaren leaves him with one last piece of advice: women don’t love weak men. We always choose strong men.
Miran and Reyyan return to the Aslanbey konak. She opens the door to her room. Miran tells her they should get some sleep. Nope, she won’t leave him alone until he tells her about the revenge. He promised. Okay. He enters her room.
Miran paces. He hesitates. She pressures him to start talking. Why have you hurt me? What could my family have done for you to seek this kind of revenge? It’s like he’s afraid to start speaking because the emotion is too strong to handle. She raises her voice, tell my why you did it! I need to know the truth! I did it for my parents, he snaps back, only for them. My mother and father. Because unfortunately…. Your father…. Mercilessly killed mine and dishonored my mother.
Reyyan is shocked. Hazar Sadoglu ruined my life, he tells her. She can’t believe it. My father could never hurt anyone, she shouts. Then you don’t know your father very well, but I do, he replies. I have known this for almost 30 years. I’ve lived for this day my whole life and I got my revenge. Reyyan says he grew up hearing a vile lie. They filled your head with lies. My father isn’t the bad man you think he is.
Miran sits and recalls his most painful memory. I was a child, but I still remember. It was daybreak. There was a commotion. But my grandmother’s voice was the loudest. She was crying “murder”…. he sobs and can barely push the words out… “My son! My son!” I got up and went to the garden. I was very scared…. I hid in a corner. My mother and father were dead and covered in blood in the garden. Reyyan is crying now.
Miran continues, Hazar Sadoglu, your beloved father, had dishonored my mother. My father went after him. He tried to stop him, but your father looked him in the eyes as he mercilessly killed him and then my mother. Miran is shaking with emotion.
dondi356
Reyyan claims her father would never dishonor a woman. She shouts, he would never kidnap anyone’s wife or kill anyone! Miran shouts back, he did! He walks towards her and she steps back until she’s against the wall. He tells her, your father is to blame! I couldn’t sleep after that, do you know why? I was scared. I tried to remember my mother’s voice, her face. I thought I’d forget if I slept. And I did.
Your father stole my mother’s voice from me, he tells Reyyan, he stole her eyes, her scent. He ripped her away from me. And I swore that my purpose in life would be to destroy that man. That’s what I did. I prepared for it. I lived for it.
Reyyan says, my father isn’t the person they made you think he is. He’s a compassionate man, a generous man. He’d never hurt anyone.
Miran isn’t listening. He tells Reyyan, we had to leave our home because of all of you. Don’t you understand? Your father did everything I just told you about. Whether you believe or not, he killed them. I have reasons to hate your father.
Reyyan asks, how can you live with that pain? Miran answers in one word—hatred. I’ve known nothing but hate my whole life. Love? I don’t know it. Forgiveness? I don’t know it. Happiness. I don’t know it. All I know is hate. It’s the only emotion I’ve ever felt. All my life I’ve taken refuge in this hate. They look at each other and cry. Then Miran leaves.
Next morning Elif bounces into the kitchen. I’m very hungry, what’s for breakfast? The new hire Sehriyar, is there. She looks surprised to see Elif, does she know or suspect something? She asks Keriman who Elif is. Keriman answers, Esma’s daughter. What? But how can that be, Sehiyar asks. Firat is Esma’s only child. Why so many questions, Keriman shoots back. The girl was in a difficult situation and Esma adopted her. Elif gets up from the table, I’ve lost my appetite she says and leaves.
Sehriyar calls Elif spoiled. She thinks she’s part of the family. How nice, Keriman says, critcizing others on your first day. Talk less and work more, and stay away from Elif, she’s the lady’s special girl.
Reyyan enters Gonul’s room. She was looking for Miran. Gonul asks, what do you want with Miran? Nothing, Reyyan replies, and she turns to leave. Gonul stops her. We haven’t had a chance to talk, she tells Reyyan. What would we talk about, Reyyan answers, you should be ashamed of yourself. I received you in my home when Miran asked for my hand.
dondi356
Gonul says, if you knew how much I suffered, you’d kiss my feet. What are you talking about, Reyyan asks, how you shamelessly lied? You think I’m lying, Gonul says. Gonul opens a trunk and tells to Reyyan look at her dowry.
Want to see why I’ve been lying to you, Gonul asks? It’s because my grandmother gave me no other choice but to lie. They buried my dreams. She takes some things out to show Reyyan. My hand still feels the pain of the needle, Gonul says. You say I lied to you? What do you think they did to me? Do you know what it’s like to prepare for something your whole life, only to have it cruelly taken away? Reyyan has no idea what she means.
Miran walks by and notices what is happening. He enters the room just as Gonul is about to show Reyyan her wedding picture. He tells Reyyan to never enter this room again. But Gonul was going to tell me something, she says. He takes her arm to lead her out but Reyyan breaks away. She asks Miran, what did you do to this girl? Was she kidnapped, too? Is she here against her will? Miran says they are leaving. He repeats, never come into this room again.
Reyyan chases after Miran and Gonul leaves the room and watches them. Why are you running from me, Reyyan asks? He’s not running, just going to work. She stops him, my head is still spinning about the atrocities you told me. Whether you believe them or not, it’s true, he says. Reyyan asks, who is Sultana if she’s not your mother? She’s my aunt, my uncle’s wife, Miran replies. And Gonul, Reyyan asks? They turn to look at Gonul. We will have to wait for the answer.
We are out!
dondi356
So grateful to you dondi356, for this beyond fabulous recap! I know you do double duty on Friday with Embajador on the Uni patio, but I am so grateful you covered “our” recap episode first!
This was the most riveting episode I have ever watched in any TN! When I wasn’t crying, my heart was pounding with the drama and acting!
I think my crack-pot theory that Miran is Hazar’s son is definitely a player. Very Bad Grannie has been planning this way, way too long. Using Hazar’s son against him, is definitely in the running for the venganza Premio for evilness!
That scene with Gul and Reyyan, Miran listening through window (I didn’t even care that it wasn’t plausible) was incredibly poignant. It seems as though Miran knew that lullaby. Gosh dondi356, if you could find that translation, I would really appreciate it! The actor can sure do it all if she was the one singing!
Only Gul could save Reyyan and stop that showdown with Miran and Nasuh. Gramps did seem a bit moved with Reyyan says she had faded into nothing. We know that GT has tear ducts too.
The actor playing Miran did such a realistic job retelling his firsthand account of what he saw after his parents were killed. I don’t believe anything Azize says and but it is possible that Nasuh’s thugs killed Miran’s mother.
Miran saying he doesn’t know love or joy, just hate, was heartbreaking. I think this is what is going to help Reyyan forgive him at some point. She will want to save him and teach him to really love and have joy in his life.
Wow, what a cliff hanger! Regardless of whether Miran tells Reyyan Gonul is his wife, I wonder if he will do good on his promise to divorce Gonul?
Excellent dondi356!! Just Excellent.
Great reap as usual Dondi. What's all the secrecy regarding Elif and her parentage. Is it possible that she is Hazar's love child? That seems more realistic to me vs Mirian being his child. Do we know who Reyan's true father?
Nett
dondi356, I'm going to have to find a new source of adjectives. I've run out of superlatives to describe your marvellous recaps, and this one may very well be your best!
Telemundo sure did a good job of editing the episode and running over the prescribed time, so that Reyyan is left hanging for the weekend with the question "Who is Gonul?" I somehow doubt that Miran will admit that she's his wife. He could, of course, simply say that she's Sultana's daughter and leave it at that. Someone should tell Reyyan that if she wants to know more, she should read our recaps and comments!
The question increasingly hanging over the novela is "Who is Elif?" I doubt that Monday's episode will provide the answer, but one never knows.
BTW, thanks very much for the word "konak." I've been using the word "compound," but now that I know "konak," that's the word I'll use.
Standing up in the Bay area and applauding! Just a splendid recap, dondi, and I'm so, so glad you got a really good one. I remember your having to recap some duds during Loli.
Just a whisper to VVS. The very special Caray wording is crockpot theory. Can't remember who coined it, but we all love it.
So...my theory is that Azize killed or had killed Dilsah for running off with Hazar. And, the writers have put Nasuh at the scene, so he could be the one having killed Miran's father.
The way Hazar told his story backed up that BG was always very, very BG. Not sure how the Aslanbey were able to force Dilsah into marrying Miran's father. Probably her parents were involved. Hazar also said that the Aslanbey tortured Dilsah. We know that Sultana's husband was a cruel wife beater. Was Miran's father the same?
Interesting idea that Miran is Hazar's father and that BG's twisted vengeance involves the boy killing his own father. We haven't really seen many signs of Azize having affection for Miran, but I vaguely recall at least one.
Only some of the Sadoglu know that Reyyan is not Hazar's blood child. It seems like that would make a difference, if the Aslanbey knew it.
Of course, this being a TN or dizi, there were lots of happenings that don't quite add up. No guards awake at the Sadoglu konak? As was mentioned, Miran has amazing ears and can hear through glass. BG arrives in TWO cars and no one notices her.
Please, please, writers let Miran say it was Yaren who set this up. I'm unclear if she told Nasuh ahead of time or woke him just as Reyyan was preparing to leave. He did seem moved by what Reyyan said to him, but that wouldn't change his "code". And how could Yaren possibly be sure that Miran wouldn't also be killed?
Yep, this was an amazing episode and so well done. Kudos to these Turkish writers!
“Just a whisper to VVS. The very special Caray wording is crockpot theory.” Thank you novelera for giving me the secret word! Crackpot/Crockpot it is all cooking in my head today with this dizi! I love learning new things!
I also wondered what happened to all the “security” at the Sadoglu konak. Reyyan and Miran just walked out the front gate with no one standing outside. Maybe Riza had the night off and the rest of the “guards” were slacking off!
Another thanks to dondi356 for the recap and the Turkish lessons!
What a great episode and recap, thanks dondi!
I wish someone would pull that grandpa by his hair (whatever is left of it) and see how he likes it.
Gul is adorable, she’ll prob be used to keep the peace more than once.
Love your turkish insights dondi, thanks again!
klc
Thanks everyone. I lucked out with a good ep to recap. Reyyan said her head was spinning, mine, too!
VVS, I’m willing to go all in on Miran being a Sadoglu. And I’m ready to award the venganza premio to Bad Grannie. It was Ebru singing that lullaby. I’ll bet that Miran’s mother sang this to him. This Türk ninnisi, is from that part of the country.
The baby’s cradle is made of pine.
It rolled over and fell off the roof.
father came from Damascus
Lullaby, Lullaby
Bride girls pass the tea
The tea is cloudy
where will we drink.
Baby’s gone
Where will we go
Lullaby, lullaby
Nett, I also wondered at first if Elif was Miran’s sister. But since I’m leaning towards Miran being a Sadoglu, I think Azize loves Elif because she is a real Aslanbey. Of course, I could be wrong. I have no clue on who could be Reyyan’s father.
Juanita, Telemundo messed me up. This was the second night in a row they ran over 10p. I can only record one show at a time. So either I miss the end of Hercai or the beginning of Embajador.
I’d love to include more Turkish vocab but I know our focus is on Spanish. The translations for Hercai are much better than for Embajador.
“Someone should tell Reyyan that if she wants to know more, she should read our recaps and comments!” I agree!
novelera, thanks for pointing out the beanie moments. No guards, Miran’s amazing ears, and no one noticing Azize.
Agree, klc, Gul is absolutely adorable and she’s a peacekeeper for sure. She’s the only one who can control Nasuh.
dondi356
dondi356, I really don't understand why Telemundo didn't end on time for the past two episodes. I'm relieved that you were able to see the end of the Hercai episodes, but upset that you probably were done in for Embajador.
Dazzling dondi256! Your recap lighted up my morning! And the comments kept me nodding. If I had enough hands I'd give everyone a simultaneous high-five :-)
So now we have bits and pieces of what happened 27 years ago. Based on what Hazar said, he was able to rescue Dilsah from a torturous marriage only to be taken from him by "the men". What men? Nasuk's men or Azize's men? Novelera, ITA with your crockpot theory "my theory is that Azize killed or had killed Dilsah for running off with Hazar. And, the writers have put Nasuh at the scene, so he could be the one having killed Miran's father." If you ask me, I think it was Azize's men who took Dilsah..and they were probably ordered to "deshonrarla" as punishment for going with Hazar. Now according to Miran's version, his father, Mehmet, went after Hazar AFTER Dilsah was dishonored. So! What if it was Nasuk who killed Mehmet; and he had Hazar take the blame...after all, Nasuk plainly told Hazar (when Reyyan was "dishonered") that "the children pay for the sins of the parents." As for Dilsah being murdered, Azize could have had her killed (or killed her herself) after Mehmet was killed...and when Miran came out and hid in the garden, he only saw his parents dead. Being that said, how can Miran say "your father looked him in the eyes as he mercilessly killed him and then my mother" unless Azize has brainwashed him into believing that.
VVS, once again, we ride on the same wavelength with "Only Gul could save Reyyan and stop that showdown with Miran and Nasuh." I was sure Yaren would have Reyyen "caught" but I had no idea how Reyyan would be saved especially after the Miran-Nasuk showdown. The writers continue to impress! And...
"I think my crack-pot theory that Miran is Hazar’s son is definitely a player." Yep me too! Someone asked about Reyyan's father and I've been wondering too. Wouldn't it be poetic justice if Reyyan was fathered by one of the Aslanbey brothers..and maybe Elif is her sister! Hehehe, lots of crockpot theories to go round and round LOL
kic, "Gul is adorable, she’ll prob be used to keep the peace more than once." She is cute as a button! And yes, I'm sure she'll be keeping the peace and Nasuk in line more than once. I wonder how Reyyan and Miran (and everyone on the set) were able to keep a straight face when they were shooting that scene, especially when Gul said, "the only person who could’ve brought you was my abuelito"
So glad Keriman didn't spill the beans about Elif. That Sehriyar is a snake in the grass and would make an even better "Wicked Witch of the West"
In case you're not aware, Anita (whom we remember with admiration and fondness) gathered up all the Caray vocabulary (with definitions/explanations) and posted them..it took her three pages!! In case you have some free time, here are the links...

Yes! The Patio of Lowered Expectations! LOL. I think that’s where I’ve been hanging out since the start of the pandemic. Thanks, Rgv Chick, I went back for a refresher. Ever grateful, Anita…
These are not on the list, but I think we Telemundo viewers are particularly fond of:
Telenovela Medicine, Telenovela Airlines, The Only…. In…. (e.g. Berta, the only social worker in LA or, the only “restaurant, bar, hospital, etc." in town.), and recently, avocados!
dondi356
Though I can’t stand her, Gonul is correct about Azize being a puppet master and Azize's also a likely master of revisionist history. She’s totally brainwashed Miran.
“Someone asked about Reyyan's father and I've been wondering too. Wouldn't it be poetic justice if Reyyan was fathered by one of the Aslanbey brothers..and maybe Elif is her sister! Hehehe, lots of crockpot theories to go round and round LOL” I like this, Rgv Chick!
dondi356
Dondi....it was me...I'm questioning the parentage of Miran, Elif and Reyan. Not understanding who Elif is at this point and why the witch is keeping her identity secret. This made me wonder if she was somehow Miran's sibling but I need to revisit a couple of episodes. With Hazar off in the service...not sure if is realistic that he father 2 children unknowingly so maybe he could be Miran's biodad.
Glad Reyan planted the seed with Miran that he may have been lied to regarding what happen to his parents. Hope this makes him think or investigate things. There is something about the way his witch grandma ...that points to she's lying about something.
Boy...these honor killings and paying for the sins of others is horrible.
Nett
Yes, definitely something odd about the mystery surrounding Elif. However, it could be as simple as Azize's fear that the Sadoglu would be up to some re-revenge by kidnapping Elif, if they knew she was an Aslanbey. I even have a vague memory of Azize saying something to that effect. Clearly, she's the only one the witch really loves. I get the impression that Miran is merely a weapon for her to use. And she's definitely displeased when he shows a mind of his own.
TELEMUNDO...
"Café con aroma de mujer", after 8 months the recording has come to an end for Carmen Villalobos.
