Hercai - #18 – Parte 1 de 3
Seeing Gonul and Miran’s wedding picture gives Reyyan worse pain than Gonul’s self-inflicted stab wound. She sinks to her knees sobbing. She cries and cries. And when Azat tells her that Miran is a liar she agrees.
Firat calls Melike at the Sadoglu konak. She is the one who was helping out with the old guy who pretended to want to marry Reyyan. But she tells them that Azat is not at home, and don’t call her any more.
When Hazar, having returned home, tells Zehra that their daughter isn’t at the Aslanbey place, she’s upset and blames him for letting Miran take her.
Cihan pleases Turkish male Viewerville by asserting himself over Handan. Before that Handan tells him how Yaren plotted for Azat to take Reyyan. He looks at her angrily and tells her he discovered what she and Yaren did. That they knew the wedding was for revenge and told no one. He also says that, when Azat brings Reyyan back and gets reprimanded for it, he’ll go straight to Nasuh and tell him that Yaren knew all along! He tells her he’ll take care of things from now on.
Azat has gotten Reyyan released from the hospital. He wants to tear up the wedding picture, but she insists on keeping it to remind herself of what happened.
Azat reminds her that he asked her before to leave with him. [Believe he refers to that day on the bridge.] He says they’ll go far from Midyat, where no one can find them. She replies that she doesn’t want to go. This is her home. But then she says that, wherever she goes, she becomes a prisoner. “I want to be a bird that flies free. But they tore off my wings before I had time to fly even once.”
Then Reyyan tells Azat she needs for him to take her somewhere.
Miran comes to check on Gonul in her hospital room. Sultana glares at him and tells him that she could have died. Gonul then whines that she wishes she’d died. This doesn’t affect Miran at all. He asks: “How did you know where we were? How did Azat get there at the same time?" He doesn’t get any answers.
Instead he gets a bedside soliloquy from a spurned woman. She says she thought that his heart was only filled with vengeance, but Reyyan got him to love her in two days. She goes on to say that now he has to be without her. “Do you feel it? You can’t even breathe. You thought that person would never leave you. But now you know how it feels to be so close to someone and at the same time so far.”
He replies: “You think I chose to involve you in this cruel punishment? I never wanted you to be hurt. You can’t ever say that I gave you hope. You wanted to take part. But I wanted to put a stop to the false life I was forced to live.” He wants her to tell him what happened in that house, but Sultana interrupts, saying he’s making her daughter worse. He leaves and Gonul moans that nothing ever works out. [Sing it, sister! You can sing it for all the "other women" in all the telenovelas ever made.]
Hercai - #18 – Parte 2 de 3
They tease us with some camera angles. Miran is shown in the hospital hallway after leaving Gonul, and then we see Azat and Reyyan walking toward the exit. But he doesn’t see her. Nor does he see her leave in a cab with Azat.
Reyyan has Azat take her to the place she loved, where she used to ride her horse. And also where Miran set up that big swing. She gets on the swing. We see Azat begin to swing her, while she remembers when Miran did the same. She insists that Azat swing her harder and harder. [For a minute I wondered if she’d jump at the highest point.] She ties a black scarf around the swing and leaves. But not before Azat proposes marriage. I don’t remember her saying yes or no.
Miran, with that telenovela 6th sense lovers are supposed to have, goes to the place where he took her for the outdoor dinner and swung her before the wedding. He’s distraught she’s not there. But he finds the black scarf and says that it’s a hint she left so that he’d follow her. He walks away saying, as if to convince himself, that No, she didn’t leave him.
Handan lets Yaren out and tells her that her father Cihan is handling things. And also that her beloved son will never marry Reyyan. They go down to breakfast, where Zehra is trying to get Gul to eat something. After the two harpies are unpleasant, Gul tells Handan that, even if she eats all the marmalade on the table, she’ll never be a sweet auntie!
Handan forces Yaren to talk with Firat, when he calls, with the phone on speaker. He’s definitely chilly and is asking about Azat. Handan wants Yaren to tell him that she’ll call and let him know if she hears from her brother.
Lady M. goes out to see Sehriyar. [Sehriyar has a horse face and very prominent teeth. I keep expecting her to open her mouth and whinny.] We learn that it was indeed Handan, aka Lady M. who wanted Sehriyar to be her paid spy. And pay she does when she gets the choice news about a girl called Elif being Azize’s mysterious granddaughter.
Nasty Horseface says that, if something happened to this girl, ardería troya (Troy would burn or all hell would break loose). Sehriyar goes on to say that there’s another odd thing. No one except Esma ever goes into Azize’s room. Handan’s eyes light up and she gives her some more cash as a down payment for her work snooping in that room.
Handan rushes to Cihan’s office to tell him about Elif. He tells her he dropped that girl off the night before and thought it was at the Aslanbey home. [Wish I had an office with Moorish arches and antique furniture!]
Firat calls Miran, who tells him about Reyyan’s “signal” and that he’s on his way to Casa Sadoglu. [I thought that black scarf was not a signal, rather “you’re dead to me”.]
Hercai - #18 – Parte 3 de 3
In the taxi Azat asks Reyyan: “Are you sure? We’ll get married whenever you wish. But don’t feel pressured.” He says he’ll be her escudo (shield). “Not my grandfather nor any dirty Aslanbey will ever dare to touch you.” They get out of the cab in front of that same door where Gonul announced to Miran that SHE was his wife just before the wedding.
Miran pulls up at the end of that back street or alley. Azat enters. Reyyan stands there frozen for a moment and then walks in. The door is not closed behind them, so Miran is able to peek around the corner and see and hear everything.
Azat shouts for his grandfather. Zehra and Gul are on the upstairs balcony and begin to run toward Reyyan. We see Yaren smirk, believing her brother will rid her of her competition. The Tyrant stalks up asking why he dared to bring the impure one there.
Azat tells everyone to listen up. “This mansion is Reyyan’s place. From now on anyone who tries to hurt her will find me in front of her. I won’t have a gota (drop) of compassion for anyone who makes her cry. Reyyan has accepted me to be her husband.” Miran looks on, devastated. Reyyan takes Azat’s hand.
Nasuh says it’s not for him to marry someone else’s discards. Azat says that this is his final word and his grandfather will have to kill him to stop him. He pulls out that ubiquitous Midyat gun and thrusts it in his grandfather’s hand. “Either you shoot me here and now or accept Reyyan as my wife.” Lady M. runs up saying she won’t permit either thing: his being shot or his marrying Reyyan. Azat gives her a stern look and tells her she lost her right to have an opinion with what she did. [I assume he means not telling everyone what Yaren overheard before the wedding.]
Azat says that, referring to honor, he’ll clean the family honor. But not with una bala sino una boda (sounds better in Spanish), an honorable one. She was sacrificed for sins she didn’t commit. [We can see Miran grimace with pain at this.] He, Azat, will make her his wife.
Miran starts to leap through the door, but Firat stops him. [Side comment: I know he’s doing what all galanes do. But he keeps calling Azat a bastard. Azat is the one who is behaving honorably. He wants to marry the woman he loves and get the whole evil household off her back.] Miran keeps insisting she wouldn’t have agreed to the marriage…that they’re forcing her. [He doesn’t know what Gonul said and about the wedding picture.] Firat talks him into leaving. He walks away crying.
Azize comes in to see Gonul. She coolly says she never doubted her recovery. Gonul whines that she almost died from a stab wound and Azize never even came to see her. Azize: “Do you think I don’t know that Reyyan didn’t stab you? You’re a lot like your mother. You gave quite a performance. If Miran knew what you did, not even I could protect you from his fury.” After she leaves Sultana approaches begging her daughter to say it’s not true. But I think she saw it in Gonul’s eyes.
Grandpa Tyrant: “I won’t accept this wedding. If she comes here again it will be in un ataud (coffin).” Hazar grabs his father’s arm. “Enough! I don’t accept this marriage either. I won’t let my daughter be dragged from one bad marriage to another one. I will take my wife and my daughters and we’ll leave this house.”
Many thanks, novelera, for this excellent recap. You've covered everything, and you've also included some interesting Spanish (I especially liked "una bala sino una boda"--it does have a ring to it that I can't think how to duplicate in English). I also enjoyed your asides, such as "Cihan pleases Turkish male Viewerville by asserting himself over Handan," "Sehriyar has a horse face and very prominent teeth. I keep expecting her to open her mouth and whinny," and "that ubiquitous Midyat gun."
I agree with you about Azat being the one who is behaving honorably. Sometimes Miran seems more like a self-important spoiled child. I hope I don't wind up wholeheartedly rooting for Azat. It was bad enough rooting in vain for Octavio in La Suerte de Loli. I do have a tendency to root for the underdog, but it's one thing in, say, sports, and quite another in a telenovela. As far as I know, the galán always wins.
So why is Esma the only one who is permitted to enter Elif's room? If Elif is Azize's granddaughter, who is her mother? Presumably one of Azize's sons' wives, and almost surely not Miran's mother, since it's very hard to imagine that Elif is 27 or more years old.
I found it interesting that Azize knew right away that Gonul stabbed herself. From what Azize said, it sounds as if Sultana has also done some bizarre things in her life. And it's clear whom their "bizarre" gene comes from.
Juanita, I thought the room no one could enter except Esma was Azize's room. Maybe someone else remembers which interpretation is the correct one. Of course, it would be easier for Sehriyar to get access to Elif's room. Entering Azize's would be a huge risk.
Thanks so much, novelera. Great recap. Always appreciate the vocab.
Not a Turkish male viewer but, I kinda enjoyed Cihan putting Handan in her place. I can’t stand him either and I like it when Handan or Nasuh humiliate Cihan. And I enjoy Azize giving it to Nasuh. In addition, it’s good to see that Azize has a weakness but it’s too bad it’s Elif.
“[Sing it, sister! You can sing it for all the "other women" in all the telenovelas ever made.]” LOL!
Sehriyar is definitely the Lupe of this dizi. Now I hope she doesn’t show up in my recap episodes.
“[I thought that black scarf was not a signal, rather “you’re dead to me”.]” I thought this, too.
Reyyan agreed to marry Azat under two conditions. She said we will live in the mansion, she didn’t want to be separated from her family, and we didn’t hear the second one. Whatever it was, I guess he agreed to it.
dondi356
Thanks, dondi, for mentioning the two conditions Reyyan imposed. Seeing it written reminded me. At the time I was thinking one of her conditions might be a celibate marriage, and that Azat is deeply enough in love to agree to this.
Nasuh shouts, now all of you are going to confront and threaten me?! If you want to leave, the door is open, Zehra! He tells her, take your daughter and get out of my house! But my son and Gul are staying. You won’t take them from me!
Gul Hanım speaks up. Stop, Grandpa! Don’t scream, you’re scaring me! She issues her own ultimatum: if my mom and sister are leaving, so am I. I won’t give you anymore kisses, and you won’t be my grandpa anymore! Nasuh storms off. [I’m beginning to think Gul is the bravest and most powerful person in the Sadoglu konak!] Everyone else stands in awkward silence.
Back in Reyyan’s room, Hazar notices the cut on her head. We had an accident. With Azat, Hazar asks, how did he find you? Where did he get the idea of a wedding? Reyyan stays quiet. Hazar asks, you really don’t want to marry your cousin, do you? Reyyan hesitates then says, yes, I gave him my word. Her parents can’t believe it.
Hazar tells Zehra, we are leaving now! Reyyan objects. She doesn’t want to leave. This is our home, she says, I made up my mind. I am getting married and I will live here like before. Zehra tells Reyyan, you are sacrificing yourself for us. Reyyan figures her life is already over. After everything she’s been through, she found out Miran was married.
By the looks on her parents’ faces she figures out they knew. Why didn’t you tell me? Zehra replies, how could I tell you? This is the first time I’m seeing you. Reyyan asks her dad, did you know when you gave me away? Hazar says he was only trying to save her life. She shouts, you should have told me the truth! She asks her parents to leave, she wants to be alone.
Cihan’s holding a family meeting. Azat is ready for a fight and warns him, don’t bother saying anything. Cihan calmly replies, let’s sit and talk. He tells Azat, you’re my son, my treasure, a part of me. Remember what you told me? “Dad, don’t ignore me.” You opened my eyes. It’s not your fault you fell in love. Handan can’t believe what she’s hearing.
Cihan continues, once you fall what can you do? We ignored your feelings. You brought Reyyan home. As your father, I have to support you and trust your judgment. From this moment forward, I promise to support you unconditionally. I’ll never leave you or ignore you Azat is teary, Yaren looks pleased and Handan wonders what the hell is going on here.
Cihan looks at both Yaren and Azat and says, you two are the most important things in my life. He tells Azat, I have a strong son, a lion, who knows what he’s doing. [I think I know what Cihan’s doing because he’s laying it on a little too thick] Cihan gives some fatherly advice: no matter what you do, be reasonable. No wound is more painful than a wound of the heart. Yaren seems to pick up on something here.
Teary Azat says, for the first time in my life, I feel like I have a father who sees me and loves me. Azat goes to kiss his father’s hand, but Cihan stops him and says, I just want a hug. Cihan is teary, too, but I think it’s because he just played his son. Azat leaves and Yaren follows him out.
Yaren offers her brother congratulations. Thanks to me, she says, you’re getting what you want. Aren’t you going to thank me? Azat knows his sister well and he scoffs, you did this all for me, right? Yes, Yaren replies, I did it so you’d be happy. She accuses him of being ungrateful. He wouldn’t have been able to bring Reyyan back without that picture.
Azat asks his sister what she means by that. She is thinking of the future. I’m always one step ahead of you, brother, and I act accordingly. She continues, mom and dad have already given in. Azat warns her to forget her plans. Erase them from your mind. Azat leaves. Yaren says to herself, I’m only getting started. Next step is to see what Firat wants.
dondi356
Handan asks her husband for an explanation. He tells her he just restored their son’s trust, the one she destroyed. She’s in a panic. Our son is getting married to Reyyan! Cihan calmly replies, no one is getting married. He’s got it all worked out. Handan still doesn’t understand. How are you going to fix this, she asks? He’s not going to fix anything. He tells Handan she will fix it.
Miran is furious and starts walking. Firat is chasing him down. Miran wants to be left alone. He yells at Firat. Why did you stop me? You’re always stopping me! They are handing her over to Azat! Firat thinks Miran should accept this. Reyyan wasn’t forced into the mansion. Miran doesn’t want to hear it. He says it doesn’t make sense to him here (points to his head) or here (points to his heart).
Miran gets a call. He agrees to meet the caller in his office. He tells Firat let’s go to the office, but he doesn’t say who called. Firat tells him he has something to do first and warns Miran not to do something crazy.
Hazar sits with Reyyan. He tells her she is right to be angry, but he couldn’t tell her. Your grandpa was coming. I had to send you with Miran to save your life. Could I say “this man is married”, just like that? Some things are hard to say. It’s not easy to break you little girl’s heart. You will understand when you have children. My biggest fear is to lose my daughter. What could I do? Hazar cries.
Reyyan understands he was trying to protect her, but she was afraid of something happening to him. She tells her father, I saw the hate in Miran’s eyes. I asked him why he did this, and he told me that you killed his parents when he was a child. Hazar is stricken.
Hazar takes his daughter’s hand and says, as God is my witness, I didn’t do anything. I’ve never hurt anyone. I don’t know who did it, but it wasn’t me. Reyyan believes her dad. I told him your heart is pure, she says, but Miran’s grandma raised him to believe that lie.
Reyyan is afraid nothing will stop Miran from coming for Hazar. He hugs Reyyan and tells her everything will be fine. When will this end, she asks, when will we be free from this hell? If anything happens to you I’ll die. Hazar assures her he won’t let anything happen. He hugs her, my little girl, my heart.
Firat and Yaren meet. He’s having a hard time starting the conversation. He tells her he is worried and that’s why he asked her to come. They found both of them at the vineyard…he says… did you tell Gonul? She denies it, how would I know? He mentions the text he received when they were together.
She’s offended, do you think I’m reading your texts? If I did something so terrible, I wouldn’t have begged Miran to let Reyyan see her sister. I wouldn’t have sent Gul so they could escape the mansion safely. She tells him to think carefully about what he says. It looks like he’s thinking, and I hope he’s thinking the right thing. Firat apologizes for upsetting Yaren. Then he adds, no one else knew they were there.
Yaren continues to spin her lies. Do you think I’d tell that snake, Gonul? What would I want with her? Do you think I’d be in cahoots with the people who ruined my family? The crocodile tears come. Is Firat falling for it? Can’t you understand what we’ve been through, she asks?
My brother came back with Reyyan. We were stunned. She continues, no one can come between two lovers. No one can break up Azat and Reyyan. I said nothing! My brother would still find Reyyan if she went to the other side of the world. Yaren adds a finishing touch, you don’t know me at all and had the nerve to accuse me. You should be ashamed. She takes her coat and leaves. Firat says to himself, your eyes don’t match your words, Yaren. [thank goodness he sees!]
dondi356
Zehra sits with Reyyan. I missed your scent I missed seeing you, she tells her daughter. Hazar eavesdrops. Reyyan says she didn’t think she could miss this place. Well, what she really missed was her mother’s hugs, the sound of her father’s heartbeat when she rested against him and the joy that Gul fills in her heart. Nothing is more important to me than my family.
Zehra asks, is that why you want to marry Azat? To be with us? Reyyan says no. Zehra presses, I know you turned him down before. You don’t see him as more than a cousin. Please tell me, do you really want to marry him? Reyyan admits she doesn’t want to marry Azat but she doesn’t want to be with Miran either. He hurt me so much, she tells her mom. She adds, I’m afraid something will happen to you. Even if I have to suffer a little, I would do it for you.
Elif brings some food to Gonul who puts on a sick act as soon as Elif enters. Elif gets to it right away and asks about the people Gonul met with at the café. Who were they? Gonul says they were friends. Elif remarks that Gonul has made friends quickly in Midyat. Gonul goes on defense. They were friends from Kars who came to visit. Elif isn’t buying it, she tells Gonul, you found a novia for your husband, anything is possible.
Miran bursts in and asks Elif to leave. He wants to talk to Gonul in private. She leaves and Miran demands, I want you to tell me right now how you and Azat ended up at the vineyard house at the same time! Gonul starts to deny but Miran angrily shuts her down. She says she’s telling the truth. I thought you went there with Reyyan like the last time, she says, so that’s why I went.
Azat was already there when I arrived, she tells Miran, I thought Azat did something to you. And when I went into the house, I was stunned. I saw Reyyan hugging Azat and telling him she missed him. Ha, Elif conveniently kept the door ajar so Sultana could sneak up and listen in. Gonul thinks that Reyyan must have messaged Azat somehow. Miran looks sick and asks, how? Gonul can’t be sure, but Reyyan must have done it when he left.
Sultana thinks to herself, oh Gonul what have you done? Why are you doing this?
Gonul continues to shovel, I asked them where you were. Azat took Reyyan and tried to leave. She tried to stop them. She cries, Azat shoved me out of the way, while Reyyan stabbed me. There was nothing I could do. They left me there.
Miran pokes a hole in her story, why would you try to stop Reyyan? You’ve done everything to get rid of her! Gonul replies, because I knew you would blame me, just like you are doing now. Miran tells her he doesn’t believe a word of this. He is very sure she is the only one responsible. He tells her, and once I prove it, I’m going to divorce you immediately. He leaves and gives the death stare to Sultana at the door.
Sultan goes to Azize to do damage control. Miran is going to divorce Gonul. What? Sultana says he thinks my daughter let Reyyan go. Azize snarks, then we all know the truth. Sultana says, Miran used to listen to you, but now his heart is with another woman. If his heart overrules his head, it’s time for us to come up with a plan together. Azize refuses, lions don’t eat with weasels. You only make plans with equals. She tells Sultana to get out.
Sultana plays her cards. I’ve been silent for a long time and I’m fed up! Do you know what would happen if I spoke? Azize asks, are you threatening me? if I open my mouth, she tells Azize, no one in this house is safe, starting with the weakest link.
We get the bombshell disclosure from Sultana: I’ll say how you kept Miran’s mother locked up like an animal and how you tortured her every day and night in that barn! [I’m thinking VVS’s crockpot theory] And that will be the least of what I have to say about you! Azize replies with anger, you’ll never be able to hurt my family, you snake.
dondi356
Sultana is defiant, I’ve warned you. Now you will find out if I’m capable of destroying you. And if I can’t, at least I will destroy the perfect image Miran has of you. And since you don’t make plans with weasels, sit on your lion’s throne, and figure out how to control your grandson! Sultana leaves.
Azize is feeling weak. She leaves her room for air. Esma comes to her. What’s wrong? Azize tells her, once again I realize that the decision I made in the past was right. It’s hard to carry, it hurts my heart to remember. I would tell myself, she was a mother, too. But life told me I was right. It’s with Sultana that I was wrong.
Esma asks, what happened? Do you know what that woman did, she tells Esma, she dared to threaten me. She said she’d reveal everything and destroy my relationship with Miran. What she doesn’t know is that not only can I destroy her, I can also make the last 30 years of her life hell. Sehriyar is lurking below the balcony and hears. You caught a big one and you have to look deeper into this, she tells herself. She calls Azize a Russian doll with one secret inside of another.
Hazar goes to his brooding father. Nasuh asks, did you come to apologize? I haven’t done anything to apologize for, Hazar tells him, I only came to tell you my final decision. And what is that? I don’t approve of the marriage, and instead, I’ll leave with my family as soon as possible. Nasuh blows up. I am your family! Don’t make me angry! Are you going to renounce your family for a tramp? For a girl who is not your blood?!
Hazar answers, all these years, you’ve never understood. Even if Reyyan is not my blood, she’s my life, and you…. you’ve never been a real father to your own family. I won’t make my daughter bow her head for you. I won’t split my family for you. Hazar turns to go. Nasuh threatens, if you leave this house you can never come back! If you leave, forget about us. Hazar replies, my home isn’t in this place, it’s where my family can be happy.
Nasuh confronts Zehra in the kitchen. Zehra! I told you to stop the crazy idea to split my family! She answers back, what is your problem? Why are you screaming? Nasuh shouts, I just spoke to Hazar! You convinced him, he says you’re leaving. Zehra says, yes, you won’t be able to control us anymore. Who do you think you are, Nasuh shouts.
I am Zehra, she responds, wife of Hazar Sadoglu, daughter in law in this house. Don’t attack me for no reason. It’s over, Señor Nasuh, your reign of terror is over. We are leaving. Fine, says Nasuh, then go. Get out, but not with my son or granddaughter. Zehra is unyielding, they are not your property, they are my family. He warns Zehra, if you try to separate me from my children, I will separate you from yours.
She asks, how can you separate me from my daughters? I’ll tell Reyyan about the lies you have told her for years. I’ll tell her she’s not a Sadoglu. You raised her in a lie. Then we will see if Reyyan will forgive you and want to leave with you. If I lose my son, you will lose your daughter! He orders, now convince your husband, none of you are leaving this house. Zehra is distraught, he can’t do this….
Reyyan comes out of her room. She thinks, I’m in this enormous mansion with mom and dad who love me so much. I spent so long trying to come back and here I am. Why is my heart in shambles? Half is ice and the other half is on fire. Why do I feel like I’m somewhere foreign? I don’t know where my real home is.
Yaren comes out of her room and sees an opportunity to torture Reyyan. You managed to take away the person I loved, she tells Reyyan, but I still saved you. I made you my brother’s wife. I had you brought back home. Reyyan is skeptical, you did it all for me, right, Yaren?
dondi356
Yaren laughs, I wouldn’t have lifted a finger for you. I told you that you’d suffer for the pain you caused, and you lost. I put a curse on you and it is working. I put you in the bed of a man you don’t love. You’ll die slowly. Your heart will suffer every minute. No one will console you except the man you don’t love.
Reyyan asks her cousin, what did they do to you to make you so cruel? I’m smart, Yaren answers, I only fight for what I want, tooth and nail. I use every resource I have. Everyone gets what they deserve in life [and that means a big anvil for you, Yaren!] Yaren bumps Reyyan out of her way and leaves.
Miran is with Firat at the swing. Firat jokes this is like Miran’s new address. All Miran can think about is Reyyan marrying Azat. He has to figure out a way to stop it. Firat thinks he should give up. What do you want in the end, he asks Miran? Why are you stuck on this?
Miran says he knows where Firat is going and he’s wrong. I’m wrong, Firat asks? Admit it, you’re in love. You have to apologize to yourself and to the woman you love. Say that you never thought this would happen. Tell her you love her, apologize. You’ll feel better. What love, Miran replies, feelings only end up hurting people. They are empty and have no real purpose. He asks Firat, what is love?
With a smile, Firat asks, do you want me to explain? Yes. This is love, Firat begins, not being able to sleep, feeling her presence wherever you go, missing her. Even on the coldest night, you burn at the thought of her being with another man. Look at yourself. No, Miran says, I’m cold.
Then what is this about, Firat asks? The thing is, Miran answers, I won’t allow it. This story doesn’t end until I say so. That’s all. He asks Firat to leave. At first Firat doesn’t want to go but then he does.
Someone sneaks into Reyyan’s room and takes her away. We see it’s Reza and he’s driving her somewhere. She’s worried, is he taking her somewhere to be killed? Reza says nothing. She says, my grandfather ordered this. He will get rid of me. I knew he wouldn’t let me stay. She asks Riza, where are you taking me? He stays silent.
Cihan looks at his watch and paces. Handan comes in. Is everything ok, he asks? She smiles and nods. Didn’t I tell you we’d get rid of Reyyan, he says. Handan thanks him and says, I don’t know how you thought of this, I’m glad you sent her to Miran.
Azat looks at the wedding rings. He’s happy and goes to Reyyan’s room. He knocks on her door and there’s no answer. He looks in the window, she’s not there. As he walks away, he overhears his parents—now that we got rid of that girl, Cihan says, we can finally rest. Handan replies, I’m not so sure, what if he doesn’t take her back? Why wouldn’t he? Handan says he told her to bring her to the swing. Calm down, Cihan says. But Handan is still nervous. Azat wonders, what did they do? What the hell did they do?!
Miran is waiting at the swing. We get a flashback. He’s meeting with Handan. She tells him, I’ll make sure they give you Reyyan. Then you can take her wherever. No one will know where you go and no one will know it was me. We will both get what we want, and it will be over. End flashback.
Voices play in Miran’s head. Azat announcing Reyyan will be his wife. Gonul saying Reyyan left with Azat. Reyyan telling him, with you, even paradise is hell. I don’t want to be with you. Miran worries that Reyyan will not come.
Reyyan is still trying to get answers from Reza. She realizes where they are going, and asks, how do you know about this place? Are you bringing me here to kill me? Reza pulls up and tells Reyyan to get out of the car. She asks what this is about. He says, don’t ask questions. He tells her again to get out of the car. He will wait a bit in case she needs him.
She sees Miran. He approaches. Reyyan gets out and walks towards him.
And we are out!

I am caught up after from my first traveling outing in over 18 months. It was strange! What was the worst part of traveling, was not having my novelas to keep me distracted!
Thank you novelera for the Wednesday super special! Juanita, the Thursday edition was splendid! These recaps are so helpful when one is behind! I was happy to see a few more comments and also want to encourage deb to join in the fun!
Now dondi356, it is sure great to read your spectacular Friday night recap, safely, from the comforts of my own home! Wow, such detail!
I also think that Gul is the bravest one of the Sadoglu family! Grampa Tyrant is memorized in her adorable presence.
Stupid Gonul was sure shoveling herself into a big pile of something! She is not as attractive as I thought without the make-up. Elif looked much older with make-up last night as well.
I am stunned by the parental behavior of Cihan and Handan. How phony, they deserve Yaren. So glad that Firat didn’t believe her!
Poor Azat, I agree with novelera that the second condition Reyyan agreed to was probably not to ever consummate the marriage.
“Azize refuses, lions don’t eat with weasels.” How fascinating this conversation was! I do think my crockpot theory is slowly cooking away. We just need some more ingredients/info. I like how they refer to each other as “snakes.”
“Sehriyar (Lupe’s prima 😊) is lurking below the balcony and hears. You caught a big one and you have to look deeper into this, she tells herself. She calls Azize a Russian doll with one secret inside of another.” Azize sure does has some deep, dark secrets.
At least Reyyan was able to spend some time with Hazar and her mom before that horrible Yaren attacked her and then she was once again taken by Riza.
That was quite the plan Cihan and Handan tried to pull off. I have no idea why Miran thinks Reyyan will just come running back to him, he is going to be shocked when she lets him have it for being married to Gonul!
Our galan has a few more life lessons to learn I am afraid. He is lucky to have the faithful Firat at his side.
Thank you dondi356!
dondi356, one of the things I like best about Saturdays is having your wonderful recaps to look forward to, and this one was no exception. And one of the best things about these episodes is the presence of Gul. Though she's probably brave because she's too young to know any better, it's still delightful to watch her take down tyrants and bullies like her beloved grandpa. I especially loved her defiance last night--I'm so glad you included her wording.
So how did Hazar turn out to be so decent and kind while his brother Cihan is such a spineless, duplicitous snake? And Cihan certainly found a compatible match in the conniving Handan, and together they produced Yaren, who manages to embody all her parents' worst qualities. Yaren made it clear in last night's episode that she doesn't even really care about her brother, since she's delighted to think he'll be in a marriage with a woman who doesn't love him. (I loved your aside wnen Yaren says "Everyone gets what they deserve in life" and you note "[and that means a big anvil for you, Yaren!]. YES!!
I'm a little confused about Reyyan's berating her parents for not telling her that Miran was married. Am I right that they didn't know until after the wedding? When could they have told her? And what good would it have done?
I also wonder why finding out that she's not a Sadoglu would be so painful to Reyyan. Except for her father, the Sadoglu are a pretty despicable lot who have treated Reyyan very badly. I would think she might be relieved to know that no Sadoglu blood flows in her veins. Yes, learning that Hazar is not her bio dad will probably come as a shock, but the fact that he has cared for and loved her her entire life should certainly outweigh that.
Azize's Big Reveal didn't surprise me all that much. I'm assuming that somehow Elif is involved. For a while, in some earler episodes, I was suspecting that Miran's mother might have also been Elif's mother, and that she gave birth to Elif right before she was murdered (probably by Azize or someone Azize hired). But I still have a hard time seeing Elif as at least 27 years old. She looks almost 10 years younger than that. So I'm still puzzled about her identity, and why she's so special to Azize.
I can't wait to see Miran's reaction when Reyyan tells him she knows he is married to Gonul.
Dondi, I agree with Juanita. Your recaps give Saturdays an additional dollop of pleasure! This one was just fantastic! Lots of complicated dialog and you got it all.
Juanita, I think Reyyan was upset with Hazar (as was Zehra) when he didn't tell her, when he came to the house at the vineyard, that he knew Miran was married. At least I think he knew by that time.
It was great to get a peek into Azize's Pandora's Box of secrets. I also enjoyed seeing Sultana scare her.
As for Yaren, I was hearing the refrain of an Eagles song when she met with Firat:
You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
So I don't know if Turkish dizis share the same trait or if Telemundo has edited the episodes, but we usually get a BIG Friday cliffhanger.
So...was Azize torturing Miran's mother because she knew about her being in love with Hazar, or just because, like the scorpion in the old tale of the scorpion and the frog: "It's her nature".
Interesting thought that Elif could be Miran's sister. If that's where they're going, they've cast too young of an actor.
I did NOT like the way Zehra was crumbling before GT at the very thought someone would tell Reyyan she's not a Sadoglu.
I'm grateful that Azat overheard his conniving parents and will know that they had Reyyan snatched away from him.
Thank you, everyone! Welcome back, VVS!
The Bad Grandparents’ dominance over their families is slowly coming to an end. Little mutinies are breaking out everywhere.
Zehra bothers me. Her wild-eyed looks and histrionics are increasingly hard for me to take. Nothing subtle there.
I can’t decide whose mere on-screen appearance affects me more, Yaren or Lupe’s Turkish cousin.
Really feel for Azat. His entire family plays him for a fool. He’s a good guy. His chances with Reyyan are lower than Octavio’s in Loli so I won’t place any hopes there. But I hope he gets an HEA.
After all this, does Yaren still want Miran? I hope that the wised-up Firat finds a way to use her.
You’re right, novelera, Hazar knew Miran was married when he let Reyyan “escape” with him. Sultana told Hazar she was Miran’s MIL when they met at the hospital.
Hard to gauge Reyyan’s reaction when she finds out she’s not a Sadoglu. She will be shocked, maybe hurt by the lie, but she will also understand why she feels she never quite belonged.
And we are all waiting to hear what Reyyan is going to say to Miran.
About Turkish dizi coming to US television: In Turkey, the shows air once a week, and each episode runs between 2-2.5 hours. They generally end with some sort of suspense, and there are big cliff hangers along the way.
This format causes a problem for airing here. The eps must be edited to fit one-hour broadcasts and IMHO sometimes relevant or interesting info is cut. And most maddening, commercials interrupt at odd times and big cliff hangers can come in the middle of an episode. Bad translations don’t help either. It’s happening with Embajador on Uni and all the other dizi I’ve seen on US TV.

Novelera, what a joy to read your recap; you made it delightful despite all the ugliness and darkness, THANK YOU! And I really like that you use the Spanish words in certain cases; sometimes Spanish words and expressions just can't be translated in their true sense.
"Cihan pleases Turkish male Viewerville by asserting himself over Handan." yes, he was impressive and finally put Handan in her place and by the way she walk out with him, she enjoyed it. Pair of snakes made for each other!
"He leaves and Gonul moans that nothing ever works out. [Sing it, sister! You can sing it for all the "other women" in all the telenovelas ever made.]"For a split second (well maybe less that a split second LOL), I felt sorry for Gonul. She too has been Azize's pawn and victim; now if she had a heart I would truly feel sorry for her, but she is a selfish Gon-psycho beyotch...so a painful anvil she doth deserve.
When Reyyan was on that swing, I too thought she might jump! Birds of a feather :-)
"After the two harpies are unpleasant, Gul tells Handan that, even if she eats all the marmalade on the table, she’ll never be a sweet auntie!" Gotta love that kid! What a wonderful little actress!
"[Sehriyar has a horse face and very prominent teeth. I keep expecting her to open her mouth and whinny.]" OMGosh, and sidebarworthy comment! You had me laughing out loud with this...perfect description!!
“[I thought that black scarf was not a signal, rather “you’re dead to me”.]” Count me in as thinking this too.
Seems like Azat's avocados grew a size or two LOL He was impressive going against the entire family! However, I may be the Lone Ranger here, but I am NOT at all rooting for Azat. Miran is a hothead, he has ruthlessly hurt Reyyan, he can't admit that he is regretting what he did or that he loves Reyyan...and his family is the devil's spawn (except for Eli), but I'm still at his table. Watching him and Reyyan together is explosive. I have not seen chemistry like this since "Amar a Muerte" with Michel Brown and Angelique Boyer...and IMO, Akin Akinözü and Ebru Sahin have them beat hands down!
Oh and Novelera, you were correct--Esma is the only one allowed to enter AZIZE's room.
dondi, whatt can I say? I'm just going to ditto waht Novelera said except that it's on Sunday when I get my additional dollop of pleasure. Thank you!!
VVS, Juanita and NOvelera have already touched upon everything I could comment on and I agree with insightful comments---some that are worthy of repetition---
Fromm VVs--
"Stupid Gonul was sure shoveling herself into a big pile of something! She is not as attractive as I thought without the make-up. Elif looked much older with make-up last night as well." I thought the same thing, especially about Elif!!
I am stunned by the parental behavior of Cihan and Handan. How phony, they deserve Yaren. So glad that Firat didn’t believe her! Firat was awesome!! I thought hte writers were going to make him a wimp with rose-colored glasses, but he sure saw through all the BS and tears! YAY!!
From Juanita--
"So how did Hazar turn out to be so decent and kind while his brother Cihan is such a spineless, duplicitous snake? " I keep asking the same question!
"I can't wait to see Miran's reaction when Reyyan tells him she knows he is married to Gonul." Me too! And I hope tha thse tell shimit was Gonul that told her...but even if sh edoesn;t, Miran had already warned Gonul that if Reyyan found out that they are married, he will blame her and divorce her. I'm looking forward to that divorce but now with Sultatna's threats, who knows whenthat will be.
From Novelera--
" I think Reyyan was upset with Hazar (as was Zehra) when he didn't tell her, when he came to the house at the vineyard, that he knew Miran was married. " Yes, that was why Reyyan was upset with both her parents, but more so with Hazat since he had the chance a the hous eat the vineyard. I'm glad Reyyan understood why later and made amends with her father.
"I did NOT like the way Zehra was crumbling before GT at the very thought someone would tell Reyyan she's not a Sadoglu." That was just so frustrating to watch! All Zehra had to do was run to Hazat and tell him that they need to leave ASAP before Nasuk can talk to Reyyan.
I've made it known that I don't like Azat, but I too am glad he overheard his conniving so-called parents, but only so that he can realize what a fake his father is; Cihan even had me convinced that he was being sincere! I really fell for that one!
"So...was Azize torturing Miran's mother because she knew about her being in love with Hazar, or just because, like the scorpion in the old tale of the scorpion and the frog: "It's her nature"." I'm glad that the writers confirmed what Hazar told Zehra. I think the torture was because of Dilsah's love for Hazat. How horrible to think that Dilsah was tortured for what could have been years!
Hello, all. I do not get this show, but I occasionally reactive the excellent recaps. I am watching La Hija on Univision , and I see some similarities , including the mysteries of the Turkish culture . The main heroine is victimized in both shows and the Galan acts badly and just redeem himself and make amends to see one true love. It's a long and winding road. Yikes.
I get the names mixed up, and sometimes can't tell if it is a man or woman .
Susanlynn, what a pleasure to see you here in Telemundo land! I always loved your comments when I spent more time on Univision. And I'm pretty sure you and I were both Colunga telenovias.
Hello, Novelera,, we were both big fans of the lovely Fernando and enjoyed many of his telenovelas together .My favorite was Alborada in which Melinama named him " the mystery boinker of Santa Rita. " She had a way with words .
I am enjoying reading these recaps. Now I must try to find photos so I can match faces to names.
The starcrossed lovers remind me of the ones in La Hija. Dondi has been providing us with excellent recaps of that show . It is a Turkish roller coaster ride .
" Lions don't eat with weasels" ...ha....I am writing that down . Azize may be an evil witch , but she comes up with some real zingers. Ouch.
Welcome to Telemundo, Susanlynn! It’s a shame you don’t get it where you are. Yes, there are similarities between Embajador and Hercai.
If you search for Hercai on YouTube you can find the Turkish episodes. If you turn on “CC” and go into the settings you can choose English auto captions. The auto cap translation is far from perfect, but you can get the idea. And you can match the faces and names. You just have to be careful not to get too far ahead and venture into “spoiler” territory.
