Hercai - #76 – La Letra de mi Madre – My Mother’s Handwriting – Parte 1 de 3
Wow! Just when I was grousing about all the repetitive conversations…a blockbuster episode.
The note that Reyyan was given by the mysterious visitor looks suspiciously similar to the two received by Azize.
Reyyan tells Melike that there’s no time to lose and she’s going to that village. Melike thinks the note was sent by the guys who kidnapped her. Reyyan says that it could be from the person who gave her the note she was told to give to Azize. Melike insists that she has to tell someone, maybe Miran. Reyyan says that she’s certain she saw fear on Azize’s face when she saw that note. “There are things to discover. Azize may have other enemies that can reveal the truth.” When Melike reminds her that she was kidnapped, Reyyan replies that they didn’t harm a hair on her head. She insists that she has to go.
Miran tells Firat that the text was from Gul, and not Reyyan. Firat admires Gul’s tactics. “I’m so tired of this, Firat! [And so is Viewerville, Miran!] Miran: “When I look into Reyyan’s eyes, I see her anger. But way behind that I can see un destello (a hint) and I think she’ll understand, she’ll believe me. But no! I can’t give up while she’s in my heart, and I know that her heart still beats for me. This woman is everything to me!”
Firat advises him to just give her some time to come around. But Miran says: Cuando los ojos no ven, el corazón tampoco siente. (When the eyes don’t see, there are no feelings.)” He’s afraid that their hearts will not grow fonder with absence. “If one of these days she pulls me right out of her heart, this would be the end of our story. Firat, do you see? I’m afraid that we will be separated.””
Reyyan is up early, walking under an umbrella due to rain. She calls Miran but he doesn’t pick up for some reason. Reyyan strides on saying to herself that she’ll open his eyes. When Miran does call her back, she doesn’t pick up – twice.
Miran leaves the konak walking by the usual females seated around the table. Sultana isn’t completely cowed and gets in a mild dig at HAG. “It’s said you should castrate a bull when you can no longer control him. You’ve been giving me a hard time and losing sight of what’s important to you.” Azize doesn’t reply, just digs into her breakfast.
Melike discovers that Reyyan is gone. She is very worried and calls Miran. She tells him about the note. He insists that his mother isn’t from some village. Melike then freaks out thinking that someone set a trap for Reyyan. Later we see Melike and Miran meeting in the street. She tells him about the visitor to Reyyan’s room, the note, and that Reyyan needed to go to the village mentioned in the note. Miran does his usual and goes ballistic.
Hercai - #76 – La Letra de mi Madre – My Mother’s Handwriting – Parte 2 de 3
At the Sadoglu konak Yusuf sees Zehra on one of those outdoor sofas that never get moldy. He tells her he’s noticed her worried face lately. At first she says it’s because of Hazar. Then she asks if he can tell her about the past…about Hazar and Dilsuh. Yusuf is willing to talk. He tells her that, when Hazar was doing his military service, Dilsuh became an Aslanbey. Mi viejo amigo (Nasuh) didn’t tell him about it because he feared that Hazar would do something crazy.
Zehra: “Why do you think she married an Aslanbey?” Yusuf: “I don’t know. Why this sudden interest in Dilsuh?” Zehra tells him she wants to show him something, but he must promise to keep quiet about it. When he promises, she shows him the letter from Dilsuh that states that Miran is Hazar’s son. She goes on to say that she knows what he’s thinking, but Reyyan is not Hazar’s biological child. [She assumes he’s going to be horrified by the incest possibility.] Seeing his face, she says “How did you know?” Then, “Ah" as she realizes that Nasuh told him.
She asks his advice about what she ought to do. “I swear I want to give this letter to Hazar! He has a right to the truth. I can’t bear the guilt of hiding it from him. I can’t commit this sin against a boy who thinks he’s an orphan.” She begins to sob and Viewerville begins to forgive her a little bit.
Yusuf says that she ought not show the letter to Hazar until it can be proven real. Zehra opines that this would change everyone’s lives. [Ya think!] Zehra has an idea. If she could get a sample of Dilsuh’s handwriting, she could compare it.
Reyyan is in an odd sort of pubic transport, a van, with a driver and some other people behind her. Miran blocks the road with his car. After some back and forth between them, she gets out of the van. He keeps swearing to her that his mother is from Midyat. They argue a lot more. He reminds her of how she was wrong about Gabriel, who said that Mehmet Aslanbey ordered the ring. He does a lot more mansplaining. And then she tells him that she knows he has some doubts about all that Azize says. And he says that he could live with losing any and every thing, except for her.
They arrive at a very humble village. There’s a man sitting at an outside table and Reyyan tells him that they are looking for Rahid and Sukran de Yirmendi, who had a daughter named Dilsuh. “I am her daughter-in-law and this is her son.” The guy takes on a shocked expression and says: “You are young Miran!” Miran: “How do you know who I am?”
Then we see Miran and Reyyan in front of a stone house with a blue door. Reyyan tells him that it’s true that his mother was born here. In his mind Miran hears HAG telling him that his mother was born and raised in Midyat. And then he hears that guy at the table asking him why he’s never before come to the village of his mother. And lastly he hears Esma saying that his parents were both from Midyat. And he has another memory of Azize saying that his mother was penniless and didn’t leave any legacy to her son.
Hercai - #76 – La Letra de mi Madre – My Mother’s Handwriting – Parte 3 de 3
Miran and Reyyan approach the blue door and an elderly woman comes to the door before they can knock. She stutters out: “Welcome, son! I knew you’d come one day.” When Miran asks how she knows him, she replies that he’s the spit and image of his grandfather.
Zehra is looking for Reyyan. Melike tells her she’s gone somewhere with Miran. Zehra’s eyes bug out just a little bit. She tries to call Reyyan, but doesn’t get an answer. Zehra tells Melike that they need to lie and say that Reyyan didn’t feel well and is resting.
The elderly woman [sorry, I don’t think I ever heard a name] invited them in. There’s a large photo of Dilsuh as a child and her parents on the wall. [Miran does look a bit like Rahid.] The woman tells them that Rahid mourned for months when he heard of Dilsuh’s death. And he didn’t live long after that. They tried to find Miran, but it was as if he’d disappeared. They searched in Midyat. Miran’s grandmother cried and cried about not being able to protect him. She even went to the Aslanbey konak, but Azize wouldn’t see her. She goes on to say that his grandfather chose his name: it means leader, or good person.
Miran runs outside When Reyyan approaches him, he gets hysterical, saying that none of it is true. He wants to leave, but she refuses. She says he needs not to be afraid of the truth.
The elderly woman says she’s lived in the house for 34 years. She arrived a year after Rahid died. She was ill and had nothing to eat. But Sukran cared for her and they became friends.
Outside Miran thinks to himself “Is it true, mamá?” He seems to see Dilsuh coming home and calling out for her parents. Then a minute later he sees her sitting by his side on a bench, offering him an apple slice. His eyes well up with tears and he wonders why he had forgotten her voice.
We next see Miran in Dilsuh’s room. There is a full-sized photo on the wall that is just like the one Sultana gave him. He opens a wardrobe that has some of her things. He finds some snapshots. And then…a diary of hers. He takes out the photo from his pocket, compares the handwriting, and sees that it’s his mother’s. Voice shaking, tears in his eyes, he tells Reyyan that they are in his mother’s room. “They wanted to hide this. They wanted to rob me. I arrived too late to find my mother. Too late. You were right, Reyyan. In order to build a future together we have to discover the whole truth of the past."
Wow. I wonder whether the telenovela gods heard our complaints about same old same old. These last few episodes have all had some important revelations. Perhaps especially this one. Thanks so much, novelera, for your excellent recap, including, of course, the useful Spanish and your snark, as in "'I’m so tired of this, Firat!' [And so is Viewerville, Miran!]." I no longer have a house with outdoor furniture, but I loved your observation about Zehra and Yusuf sitting on "one of those outdoor sofas that never get moldy."
I confess I was astonished when Miran simply blocked the van with his car. Did it never occur to him that the van might not stop in time? Or that the driver might slam on the brakes, possibly causing injuries to the passengers (esp. Reyyan, who was sitting in the seat next to the driver and might have been thrown against the windshield.
Anyway, I'm very glad the trip didn't turn out to be another lie or dead end. And now Miran really does recognize that Azize has lied to him. I wonder how he will deal with this. And as I was watching him looking at Dilsah's diary, I kept thinking about Zehra wanting a sample of Dilsah's handwriting.
Still unclear is who left the note for Reyyan telling her to come to Dilsah's town.
Novelera , wow, thank you for a great recounting of an episode that gave us a sudden step forward in lighting up the dark past.
That trip to Dilsah's village plus Yasof's conversation with Zerha gave us some new clues . Dilsah was a poor girl who somehow ended up married to rich Azz's son while her true love Hazar was serving in the military. .....and she was pregnant with Miran. Hmmmm.... Now We have to find out how that happened . What brought poor Dilsah and Mehmet together ?
It is fascinating to see those old buildings in Turkey and how people live in them today . The doors are so low !!!
That comment that Sultana made to Azz about castrating the bull that you lost control of ......yikes . Miran , watch out .
Great recap, novelera. Always appreciate the Spanish. Thanks so much. I wonder about the outdoor furniture, too.
Finally, it’s the last couple weeks and we are getting somewhere. Big task to sort the truth from the lies.
Will we find out who is the “note master” before the break?
Reyyan was riding in a “dolmuş”, a shared taxi.
Compulsory military service in Turkey applies to all males from 20 to 41. It varies in duration depending on educational level. Hazar might have had to serve 18 months. I guess Dilsah became pregnant right before he left for the service so they had to marry her off quickly to the Aslanbeys. Yes, who was the connection between those families? Esma? Could she be related to Dilsah?
Zehra is worried the letter might be fake but I think she’s more worried it might be real. Why can’t she show it to Hazar? He will know if it is fake or not. Yusuf gave her validation to delay.
Susanlynn, I was thinking about those houses, too. What about water? Sanitation?

Steve, I’m half watching this and I’m wondering if anyone else has bothered to watch. I was hoping for something better. Still not feeling Pedro Fernandez as Malverde and the writing is clichéd.
I see we have some actors from ESDLC: Isabella Castillo, Alan Slim, and Rafael Amaya is supposed to make a special appearance.
dondi356
Steve and dondi, Malverde remains on my DVR. I watched the first half of the first episode and, like dondi, just wasn't feeling Fernandez as the title character. A major reason I haven't been able to catch up has been the San Francisco Giants having this totally amazing season. They won 107 games AND the National League West even though the Dodgers were nipping at their heels the last two weeks of the season. Every game was "must see TV".
My baseball passion remains from my youth in Ohio. I was the only one in my family of five who had the slightest interest in sports. I used to sneak a radio into my bedroom to listen to the Cleveland Indians (who will become the Cleveland Guardians next year) when I was supposed to be asleep during night games. I had to move to the San Francisco Bay area to watch a team I loved win the World Series!
Since Hercai ends soon and I'm not thrilled by the look of its replacement, Malverde may be my one and only novela to watch.
novelera, I’m a big baseball fan, too, and I live and die with my Mets every year. My dad took me to my first Mets game at the Polo Grounds, where the NY Giants used to play! If they had stayed in NY, I would have been a Giants fan. My mom still laments the Dodgers leaving here. Anyway, I’m thrilled the Yankees are out of the post season and I hope your Giants go all the way.

Excellent recap novelera for an exciting episode! There have been so many great comments already, so not much to add.
“She begins to sob and Viewerville begins to forgive her a little bit.” I guess I am the meanie in Viewerville. I can’t believe how stupid Zehra is. Just give the letter to Hazar already! We only have 11 more episodes!
“The elderly woman says she’s lived in the house for 34 years. She arrived a year after Rahid died. She was ill and had nothing to eat. But Sukran cared for her and they became friends.” I completely missed this part of the conversation novelera and was confused as to who the elderly lady really was. So, she is a friend of Miran’s grandmother? This woman isn’t Dilsah’s mom? Miran’s real and hopefully nice grandmother?
“You were right, Reyyan. In order to build a future together we have to discover the whole truth of the past." Hopefully the bickering of the Bickersons is done. I give Reyyan credit for not doing the “I told you so” dance.
The big question: Is the note master friend or foe? So far, he/she looks friendly to ReyMir and not so friendly to Azize.
Looking forward to some more back story and reveals tonight! Thanks again novelera!
Dondi, are you aware of the 30 for 30 four part documentary about the NY Mets? Here is a link: https://www.bing.com/news/search?q=30+For+30+Mets&qpvt=30+for+30+mets&FORM=EWRE
I have this and several other 30 by 30 docs sitting on my DVR.
Thanks for the kind words, all. I was very pleased to get such an important episode to recap.
VVS, as I mentioned, I don't think the older woman who revealed so much ever said her name. As I wrote, she somehow came into contact with Sukran, Miran's grandmother, many years ago. And his kindly grandmother took her in, fed her, and healed her of some illness. Both Miran's grandparents on his mother's side are dead. It was not stated, but I had the impression the woman somehow had the right to live in that house even though its owners had died. Maybe they left it to her in a will. Of course, it's a telenovela trope that Dilsuh's room is kept as if she could walk in any minute.
What worries me is Miran running full tilt at Azize, a very dangerous person, without having some strategy.
Yes, dondi, we do sort of have to conclude that Dilsuh was pregnant when she married Mehmet. I can't imagine she slipped away from awful Mehmet to have sex with Hazar after the wedding. The Aslanbeys must not have known she was pregnant (and maybe she herself didn't know) or the marriage wouldn't have happened. This could account for all the cruelty. The real question is why they chose a girl from a small village at all. Perhaps she was known far and wide for being a beauty. I thought the actor portraying young Dilsuh was a stunner. It was her essence that made her so special.
I'm 99% sure the writer of the three notes has a strong (and probably valid) grudge against HAG. It will be interesting to find out whether it's a character that's already been introduced or someone completely unknown to this point.
Another interesting thing for me was Sukran's name. Not sure where I've heard it, but I have heard Arabic speakers say shukran when they are expressing thanks. And, based on the pronunciation of Dilsuh's name we've heard, I think su may be pronounced shah in Turkish. Don't know if there are any similarities between Turkish and Arabic.
Novelera: Praying for the San Francisco Giants winning their 9th World Series Championship.
Steve Boudreaux
I didn’t hear the name of the old woman either.
“What worries me is Miran running full tilt at Azize, a very dangerous person, without having some strategy.” I worry about that, too, novelera. But we have seen Miran outsmart her a couple of times when he stays calm.
Correct name spellings: Şükran, Dilşah - it’s the letter “Ş” in Turkish that makes the “sh” sound. And şükran (gratitude) does come from the Arabic. Şükür is a word for thanks that I hear a lot, usually when someone is especially grateful. There are many Arabic words and influences in Turkish.
I think Reyyan bears a resemblance to Dilsah. Both beauties. That would make sense why Miran was attracted to her.
I’m looking forward to tonight’s show. Recap will be up tomorrow.
OT-Baseball
I know about the 30 for 30 “Once Upon a Time in Queens” but I don’t have ESPN+. Is there another way to watch it? Around here all you have to say is “Game Six”. What memories!
dondi356
I didn't even know I was getting 30 for 30 on ESPN+. I set up a "record all" for that a couple of years ago. When I googled it, I found the Once Upon a Time in Queens available on Amazon Prime Video. I think it's about $3 per episode. The DVD of this is also available for sale on Amazon. Yikes, I wonder if Amazon is selling coffins yet?
“You were right, Reyyan. In order to build a future together we have to discover the truth of the past."
Reyyan sees how devastated Miran is and tells him, let’s go. I wanted you to know the truth but not at the cost of your heart being torn apart. She tries to get him up off the floor but he doesn’t budge. He opens his mother’s notebook and finds a pressed flower. She picked this flower, he says. He speaks to his mother, you lived here, you lived in this house.
Miran lifts himself up and sits on the bed. He tells Rey, it’s all my mother’s, all of it. She sits next to him. I showed up too late, he cries, much too late, and he leans his head on Rey’s shoulder. She wipes his tears. Everyone is crying now. The old woman leaves the room.
Later, we see that Miran has fallen asleep, clutching Dilsah’s book. Reyyan lies down next to him and puts her hand on his head. He wakes. You’re here, he says. She nods. They both sit up. Miran opens the book and starts to read his mother’s words: “I’d like to be a schoolteacher in a village like mine and help kids like me get an education. I want to do something important and help people who need it. When I finally become a teacher, my mom and dad will be so proud of me. My students will talk about me in their homes, Maestra Dilsah.” Miran cries, mom, I’m here.
Miran gets up and tells Rey, I need to talk to that woman now. He asks the woman, if it’s not any trouble, would you tell me everything you know? She answers, I don’t know if I can tell you everything I know [and why not?] but I’d be happy to answer all your questions. Miran asks, did I ever come to this town as a child? The woman answers, yes, but you were still in your mother’s womb.
She asks them to wait and drags a cradle from the other room. This is yours, she tells Miran, your grandfather made this for you 35 years ago. One day he told your grandmother he wasn’t going to make it to Dilsah’s wedding and that he would never meet his grandson. But she should tell you that he made this cradle for you.
Miran bends down to give it a closer look. His name is carved into the wood. The woman continues, your mother was pregnant when she came here. Your grandmother told her to take the cradle but your mother didn’t. She said it would be your cradle when you two came here.
The woman asks Miran, did you attend school? He nods yes. Good, she replies, if your mother could see you, she’d be so proud of you. If she could see how your wife looks at you, the way she used to look at you…. she’d be happy. Tell me… my mother… what was she like, Miran asks? The woman starts, your mother…
We don’t hear the old woman, instead we cut to the Sadoglu konak where the doctor is checking on Hazar. The doctor says Hazar is doing well. He recounts it was a risky surgery and Hazar lost a lot of blood. They couldn’t find donors and almost lost hope. It was a good thing your guardian angel showed up, he says.
Zehra flashes back to the hospital, when another doctor explained the complications that can happen with blood transfusions. Sometimes they are due to different blood types or incompatibility with a close relative. End flash.
The doctor tells them that Hazar can start sitting up and he shouldn’t be afraid to move around. Everyone is happy at the good news. Zehra says that Hazar is strong, but he’s been cooped up for days. Now let’s hope your nightmares are over, she tells her husband, and you start having nice dreams. Uh oh, the look on Nasuh’s face when she mentioned those nightmares! Cihan sees the doctor out.
Back to Dilsah’s house. The woman says, Sukran was so happy that she came home and made halva. She handed out halva to the whole town. She felt so lucky. [The Turks make halva for special occasions. In the dizis I’ve seen, the semolina halva is usually made for a funeral. My father used to buy sesame halvah for us as a treat. I love it.]
dondi356
Your grandfather never got to see you and that really hurt your grandmother, the woman says. Miran asks, Ragip Bey… (he pauses for a breath)… my grandfather… what was he like? We see the family pic again. The woman replies, he was just like your mother. They were angels that belonged in heaven. Whatever he had he always shared with the children. He died from the sorrow and suffering (not sure what she means by that).
She continues, Dilsah should have gone to school, but when your grandfather got sick, she took charge of everything. She dropped out of school, Miran asks? What could she do, the woman answers, this wasn’t an agriculture town. She went to Midyat to find work. She planned to take her parents with her, but then she got married.
The woman doesn’t look happy as she remembers this, and she sighs. Miran picks up on it and asks, what made you sad? Was my mother’s marriage a sad one? She replies, it’s not my place to say, but your mother did not want to marry that man. She cried and cried. Your grandmother didn’t want to give her away either, but the Aslanbeys are very powerful. Very wealthy. They did whatever they could and they took her. She never wanted to be a bride of that family.
Miran gets up and goes back to his mother’s room. The woman worries she shouldn’t have told him this. Reyyan tells her, don’t worry, this is the first time he hears the truth and it’s not easy for him. Rey goes to check on him.
Miran is shaking and sputtering, holding his head as if it was going to blow off his neck at any second. He asks Reyyan, why wouldn’t my mother want to marry my father? He grasps for answers. That woman is wrong. Maybe she is confused. Maybe she doesn’t remember correctly. Finally Miran says, maybe Master Gabriel did lie. Maybe he was threatened. But my mother and father were in love. That part can’t be a lie.
The woman appears in the room and tells them, I fear God, so I can’t lie. I’m sorry about what I said but you must know. I don’t want the truth to stay buried with your mother. Everyone I know says the same thing. The Aslanbeys were violent towards your mother. Miran starts to shake again, Rey puts her hand on his arm. The woman continues, that’s why your grandmother couldn’t stand losing her daughter like that. She went to find you, to save you from the Aslanbeys.
Flashback. Sukran is thrown out of the Aslanbey konak. Let me go, she shouts. I want to see my grandson! She is tossed on the street. She wails, he’s all I have left of my daughter! Let me in, Azize Aslanbey! Miran! My grandson! [We view some of this in a side view mirror of a parked car. Does this mean something?]
Azize comes out and warns, I told you several times not to come around my home, Sukran. Forget Miran’s name. You’ll never see your grandson. I never want to see your face again, is that clear? Sukran begs, but I’m his grandmother, too! You may not like me, but I won’t let you end up with him.
Azize answers, I’m not going to dirty my hands with your insignificant life. If you care about Miran, forget he exists. Your poor daughter is dead and buried. Repeat your grandson’s name and I’ll make sure you join her. I don’t want to hear even a sigh from you. [why do we keep seeing that side view mirror?] Azize leaves and Sukran cries in the street. End flashback.
The woman picks up the story: afterward… when she returned home, she never left the house again. We asked what happened, but she never said anything. Who knows what they did to scare that poor innocent woman?
dondi356
The woman pauses here. Miran jumps up and explodes, silence! That’s enough! He throws blankets and screams. Shut up! It’s a lie! A lie! He screams at the woman, but she stays still and silent. Hazar Sadoglu is forcing you to lie, he shouts. He is behind this! He takes his anger out by beating on the pile of blankets. Shut up! Shut up! I’ll kill him! We see Reyyan sitting in silence, too, as Miran continues to rage. I’ll silence him for good! I won’t let him keep contaminating the world with his lies!
So, it turns out that this wild rant was all in Miran’s head. The woman continues, I don’t know who sent you here after all these years or why, but now that you are here… never forget this place. This is your mother’s town. Her soul is here. Her scent remains in this house. If you ever feel lost, if you ever want to get away from it all, come here. Start from where your mother stayed. Start your new journey here. Miran suffers in silence. Reyyan smiles at the woman.
Elif and Azat are meeting somewhere out in the fields. Azat asks her if she is going to remain silent. We can stay quiet if you want, he says, but aren’t you going to tell my why you are so worried? If I tell you, she replies, you are going to hate me. What could you possibly say that to make me hate you, Azat tells her, you are so nice… she interrupts him and blurts, I pushed him. I pushed your Uncle Hazar. He almost lost his life because of me.
I feel so guilty, Elif sobs, I’m the reason everyone suffers. The reason Miran and Reyyan are separated. She walks a few steps away and keeps her back to Azat. I got confused when I saw your uncle, she explains. He appeared in the middle of the night, and he was holding a gun. That’s why I was scared. I didn’t want anyone in my family to get hurt.
She turns back to Azat, you hate me now, don’t you? Azat calmly answers, I don’t hate you. I know you are lying. You are lying to protect your cousin and get him back together with Reyyan. Don’t do this, Elif, that’s enough. Elif is shocked.
Miran is still in his mother’s room, reading her notebook. Reyyan comes to him. I feel so lost, he tells Reyyan. I don’t know what I’m supposed to think. Reyyan responds, don’t worry about feeling lost. Sometimes we have to leave our path to find ourselves and discover the truth. Don’t lose hope that one day everything will be fine. Do you want to go, she asks Miran? She wipes his tears. Let’s go. Reyyan takes Dilsah’s book and puts it in her bag. [this should come in handy] They get up to leave.
The woman sees them to the door. She tells Miran, I waited for you all these years. I knew you’d come one day. God bless you both. She hands Miran a nazar with a little horseshoe attached (maybe his mother’s?). He can’t speak, he just nods and then walks away. Reyyan thanks the woman, may God bless you, too. She kisses the woman’s hand.
The woman calls Rey back as she leaves. Be with him, she says, and keep going in your search for the truth. You are doing the right thing and don’t let anyone stop you. One day the truth will be revealed. [we have until Oct 25, so hurry] If we don’t know our past, we don’t wake up today, we wake up yesterday. Don’t leave him alone. If you want a future together, stay with him. Go and take care.
ReyMir leave together. The woman calls out in tears, good news, Dilsah. Your son came to his mother’s house. He came, she sobs and closes the door.
Azat tells Elif, you are a girl with a big heart. A generous person that you would sacrifice yourself to bring your cousin and Reyyan together. Elif pleads, look me in the eyes. Do you think I’m capable of faking these tears? Don’t you see the pain is killing me? He doesn’t know what to think.
dondi356
Elif asks him, you still love Reyyan, don’t you? Azat swiftly answers, my love has nothing to do with this. If you tell her you pushed her father, she will return to that mansion. Okay, he says, I see you don’t believe me, but your grandmother will do all she can to separate Reyyan and Miran, including killing her.
Elif says she believes him because she doesn’t know who her grandmother is anymore. Either I grew up or her hatred did, she says. Before, her eyes looked at me with compassion and now all I can see is hate. Every tear she sheds is contaminated. I couldn’t tell you the reason or who she will hurt. I am afraid of her.
She walks away and Azat calls after her, Elif, did something happen? Did you hear something? Elif tells Azat about the Sultana being blindfolded and dragged in front of Azize. If she could do something like this to family, Elif says, who know what she’s capable of doing to others? Azat, I don’t want to end up like her. I don’t want to end up as someone without a conscience that uses people. I don’t want to be like that, I can’t, she sobs. It’s a little awkward, he looks around, but then he comforts her with a hug and Elif continues to sob in his arms.
She asks, take me to your Uncle Hazar. She looks at him, take me to him and Reyyan. I know you have problems with Miran but help me save him from this torture. Take me to your uncle.
The Sadoglus are sitting out on the terrace, with Hazar in a wheelchair. Nasuh is happy. He tells Hazar, Reyyan is with you, and you don’t have to go to the Aslanbeys again. Right? Zehra thinks back to Esma giving her the letter: “it’s time Hazar knew this. Give him this letter and tell him Esma had to leave. Tell him she took her son and not to look for us. Tell him to clear his name to save his daughter and his son.”
Nasuh adds, your wife and two daughters are here, and you have a baby on the way. Your life is complete. Hazar answers quietly, it’s wonderful, dad. Zehra still looks troubled. [Their lies must be weighing on them.] Cihan suggest they leave Hazar and Zehra to let them have some alone time.
Hazar turns to Zehra, are you like this because you are still thinking about the letter? [yes, but not the letter he thinks]. Please don’t be upset, he tells her, “lo hecho, hecho esta”. Our daughter is here. We couldn’t find it, but don’t feel bad.
Zehra asks, how could you be sure the letter was from Dilsah? Hazar says, I told you, I recognized Dilsah’s writing. Zehra says, but if you had shown Miran, he wouldn’t have believed you. He would have said you wrote it and asked for more proof. What if you had something else written by Dilsah, like a note or another letter? Hazar says she’s right, but he has nothing else. He asks her to drop the issue. Reyyan is with us, and we should be at peace.
ReyMir walk towards the Sadoglu konak. There’s a silent conversation that happens as they stop and look at each other. Miran: Don’t go. Don’t take my peace and refuge. Why don’t you look at me like you used to? You want me to believe in hope again? Reyyan: I wish you didn’t push my father. I wish I could trust you again. I wish I could comfort you and relieve your pain. Reyyan is the one to finally speak out loud. She asks Miran, is that your final decision? [hmm…about what?] He nods and answers, that’s what I’m going to do.
Then he spots Elif with Azat outside the Sadoglus’ door. Elif! He runs towards them with Rey following. He grabs her as she’s about to enter the konak. He shouts at Elif, what are you doing with this bastard?! Rey asks Azat what’s going on. Azat calmly tells Miran to let Elif go, but Miran shouts back to stay out of this. What do you want with my cousin?! Elif breaks free and runs into the konak.
dondi356
Elif shouts, Hazar Sadoglu! Hazar Sadoglu! And the Sadoglu cockroaches scurry out to hear Elif tell Hazar, I pushed you! All eyes turn to Hazar. Elif shouts, before you fell, you saw me! Tell me, why did you lie?! Why! The camera scans over the assembled roaches who wait for an answer.
Elif walks over to Rey. It wasn’t Miran, she says, my cousin did nothing. I pushed your father. This is all my fault. Rey doesn’t believe it. Elif swears she’s telling the truth. Miran would never do this, she says, because it would mean losing you and he would never risk that. Believe me, Reyyan. Your father is a liar.
Rey looks at Miran, Elif is lying for you now? You don’t want to lose me, but you are not brave enough to take responsibility. You’re making Elif part of your game. You should be ashamed. Listen carefully, she tells Miran, I’m not falling for your tricks ever again.
Miran steps towards Reyyan and replies, if you see me as the type of man that is capable of such dirty tricks, then I have no reason to love you. Miran takes Elif, let’s get out of here.
Hazar tearfully calls out to his daughter. Hija, Miran’s been telling the truth from the beginning. The roaches are in shock. Miran didn’t push me, Hazar admits, you have to stop him. Zehra tries to shut him up. Hazar continues, you can’t let him go. Go on, hija, go. Reyyan takes off. Nasuh wants to go after her, but Cihan stops him.
Meanwhile, Azize gets a call from Hanife. What?! Elif left the mansion? Azize quickly hangs up and shouts for Firat and Mahmud. They come running and so do the all the other roaches. Elif went to the Sadoglu konak, she informs them. Firat stands in shock and Azize yell at him, don’t just stand there, run! She tells Mahmud to get the car. Azize panics, Elif is at the Sadoglu konak! The roaches wonder what is going on.
Miran leads the sobbing Elif away from the Sadoglu konak. She breaks free and tries to run back but Miran catches her again. Reyyan catches up to them. Miran! Elif tells Rey she’s sorry. It was unintentional.
Rey stops Miran, can we talk? He tells her, I think I understand now. You once said my words couldn’t permeate your heart. I think the same is happening with me. He starts to walk, and she stops him. Miran, I was wrong. I made a big mistake when I said those things. Please listen to me.
Hear what, he replies, the same as usual? More words and more tears. It’s always the same. [lol, he’s even tired of it.] The only difference is whether you or I say them. I already know what you’re going to say, “please don’t do it , Miran.” “If that is not enough, look me in the eyes.” “Don’t do what I did.” I’ve heard it and said it so many times, he says. Hundreds of times. Thousands of times. Millions of times. [lol, an admission of guilt from the writers?] But it is useless, he adds.
Elif interjects, please don’t do this. It’s all my fault. Don’t treat Reyyan like this. Miran tells her to be quiet, it’s not her fault. Elif continues, I didn’t think what I did would make this happen. I couldn’t say anything when Hazar said it was Miran. I didn’t have the courage at the time. I’ll never forgive myself.
Miran angrily shuts Elif down, this isn’t the time! You should have said something before! You could have at least told me! I don’t want to hear another thing! He turns to Reyyan, or from you either. I’m tired of all of you!
Firat arrives and Miran tells him to take Elif home. Miran takes off and Rey runs after him. Elif calls out, Reyyan, please don’t leave my cousin!
Rey chases Mir and begs him to listen to her. Let me fix my mistake, she says. Please listen! He doesn’t turn to look or break his stride.
Elif sobs into Firat’s arms. She tells him she did something very bad and she’s very sorry. Azize’s car pulls up. She jumps out and shouts, Elif!
dondi356
Zehra tells Hazar she will speak with Reyyan and explain what they did. Hazar tells her no. You must tell her you didn’t know that her father lied. Understand? It was all my idea and I did it myself, okay? Zehra objects. But it was all my idea, she reminds him. This is my fault. It is not your responsibility. I won’t let you take the blame. I’ll tell her everything. You didn’t want to, but I made you.
Hazar says don’t do this. I agreed to lie despite knowing everything. Even knowing it would destroy my daughter. I did it anyway. You had nothing to do with it. If she finds out you planned this, she will stop talking to both of us. Please don’t leave her without a family. Give her space to feel comfortable. Hazar begs Zehra, I did what you asked of me, now I want you to do what I ask of you. Don’t tell her anything. Don’t destroy Reyyan with this. Don’t make her live her future without her mother and sister.
Zehra puts her hand in her pocket and slowly lifts the letter. She thinks, if I show him this letter, all the suffering would be over. It would either fix everything… or we’d lose Reyyan forever. Will she show Hazar the letter?
And we are out! I saw “últimos capítulos”.
dondi356
Thank you dondi356 for a Super Saturday Special! Your recaps are enthralling. Thank you for sharing some Turkish traditions, I loved the halvah story with your dad.
I cried through the first 10 minutes. Poor Miran, so much was taken from him. I wonder why our mysterious older woman didn’t want to “tell all?” Is it too horrible? I was bummed when we didn’t get to hear more about Dilsah.
[We view some of this in a side view mirror of a parked car. Does this mean something?] I thought maybe the older lady might have traveled with Grannie Sukran and she was watching the events outside the konak from a hidden vantage point using the car mirror?
Miran went a bit woo woo (to quote novelera) and I was glad the rant was only in his head. Maybe he is getting better at anger management.
Wow, the Elif reveal was dramatic! The “cockroach” reference always makes me laugh. I hope you are well carmella! It is the new “avocado.” How interesting that no one believed her, they thought she was just covering for Miran. Glad Hazar came clean.
“Don’t do what I did.” I’ve heard it and said it so many times, he says. “Thousands of times. Millions of times. [lol, an admission of guilt from the writers?] Too funny dondi356!
It is Reyyan’s turn to grovel, I hope that doesn’t take too many episodes! We are on borrowed time!
My guess is Zehra will not show the letter and this will be something left hanging!
I saw “últimos capítulos” too. It made me sad. Looks like I will have some excitement to recap on Monday! Thanks dondi356! This was excellent!
Thx as usual Dondi...your recaps hit everything. Good epi....glad we got a few important reveals. The truth about Hazar's fall....and Miran now knows his granny is a great big ole liar...hiding all kinds of stuff about his mom, family, history. If he didn't already know his granny is cruel...this should open his eyes...she is not a good person...just happens to be the person who raised him. Not sure what his plan is but I hope he does have a strategy and don't go bursting into the mansion like a wild bull. She would just lie and manipulate her way out of it.
Reyan has endured a lot and has been asked to forgive a lot from Mirian...especially the cruelty early on so hopefully he won't drag out his anger against her and make her grovel forever but we shall see. But he was absolutely right about all the back and forth...but mainly him begging.
Hazar and Zehra are tiring. They go back and forth on what to reveal and who should say what and now who to take the blame for lying to Reyan about the fall. No sympathy for Zehra ... feel she should take the blame for this plot to keep the love birds apart. And now she's holding on to that letter for handwriting sample when the simplest thing to do is go to the hospital for a DNA sample or some mapping from the blood that was donated to Hazar since she knows it came from Miran. It would even be easier to get a hair sample from Miran at this point...but of course she wants to take the harder way because it buys her time I guess. Hazar's reason for taking the blame for the lie was logically but Zehra deserves a fall from her pedestal.

dondi356, we've grown accustomed to your consistently superb recaps, but I think this time you outdid yourself! What an amazing job! Not only have you covered absolutely everything, you've also offered a number of useful and at times delightfully snarky asides (for example, Miran complains to Reyyan, "It’s always the same. [lol, he’s even tired of it.]" And you called attention to something I missed: the fact that at times we see the awful scene between Azize and Sukran reflected in a car's rear-view mirror. I'm not sure what it means. Clearly, Sukran had to get to the Aslanbey hellhouse somehow, and so a car's presence makes sense. But the repeated showing of the scene through the car's mirror does seem intentional and thus significant. Just how isn't yet clear, at least not to me. It does at least suggest the possibility that someone else was in the car (it's unlikely that Sukran drove herself there) and witnessed this dreadful scene. I hope it wasn't just some anonymous taxi driver. Anyway, thanks very much for calling attention to this.
So Dilsah was pregnant but not yet married when she came home. Her father apparently made the crib for Miran 35 years ago. I hadn't thought Miran was that old (I figured he was about 30), but I guess he is. Anyway, Dilsah's mother's friend says that Dilsah's father felt he wouldn't live until the wedding and "died from the sorrow and suffering," perhaps related to what Dilsah had said of her situation while she was pregnant and visiting at home? I wonder whether she wrote about any of this in her diary. Or, if not this, did she write in the diary earlier when she and Hazar were seeing each other before he went off to military service? Any loving mention of Hazar in the diary would be immensely useful. I was very happy to see that Reyyan slipped the diary into her purse.
Thanks, too, for mentioning that Miran's wild rant about killing Hazar, etc. etc. etc. was all in his head. I thought that was probably the case, but it's good to have it confirmed.
I was impressed with Miran when he replied to Reyyan's accusation that he was using Elif to lie for him, "if you see me as the type of man that is capable of such dirty tricks, then I have no reason to love you."
Can't wait until Monday! I wonder whether that episode will answer your (and everyone's) question, "Will she show Hazar the letter?" As you note, "'One day the truth will be revealed.' [we have until Oct 25, so hurry]"
Well...I can see Reyan questioning Miran using Elif because the very first trick he pulled on her...marrying her with the intent of dumping her on their wedding night was awaful. It's not like she doesn't have any reason to believe he's capable of stooping low. But he has shown that he has really tried to redeem himself and perhaps she should have tried to talk it out with him first. But he's right....that back and forth bickering and then pleading for forgiveness is tiring no matter who is on the begging end of it.

Thanks for reading and commenting, everyone. I got a great episode to recap. It went by so fast, I could have watched another hour in place of Malverde. I had to fight to keep myself from watching ahead in the Turkish.
The old woman revealed a lot, but I get the feeling she’s withholding a few things, besides her name.
Now that ReyMir has Dilsah’s notebook, we could get more insight on her. I really was hoping there would be an entry about Hazar, but I think she wrote this before she went to Midyat and met Hazar and/or the Aslanbeys. I froze the frame when they showed the cover of the book. Her name was written and underneath it said, “6 edebiyat B”. I had to look it up - edebiyat translated to literature. Could this have been a notebook she used for school?
Cockroach is the new avocado, lol. I miss Carmella’s comments, too, VVS. Elif was really shocked when no one wanted to believe her. So many lies have been told that no one recognizes the truth when they hear it. I am glad that Hazar came clean. ITA, VVS, something will stop Zehra from showing the letter on Monday.
“If he didn't already know his granny is cruel...this should open his eyes...she is not a good person...just happens to be the person who raised him.” We can only hope, Nett. I fear it’s going to take a lot more to deprogram Miran. And I also have little sympathy for Zehra. Show Hazar the freakin’ letter! She’s so stupid.
Juanita, I found the Dilsah timeline confusing even in the Turkish. I’m thinking that Grandpa Ragip made that cradle way ahead because he felt he wouldn’t be around to see Dilsah married with children. Sukran would have to tell the grandchild, “Your grandfather made this for you”. Ragip was gone when Dilsah was taken by the Aslanbey.
I was surprised that Dilsah was allowed to visit her mother after she was married and pregnant, especially since Azize knew it was Hazar’s baby. Did Dilsah tell her mother she was being tortured by her husband and his family? If not, who did? Esma? I keep thinking there’s a special connection with Esma.
dondi356
Dondi, wow, thank you so much for every detail of this episode which has finally moved this story forward .
Rey and Miran just got a lot of clues about Dilsah 's story from his nice grandma's friend . Dilsah dropped out to school to help her parents and went to Midway to find work . She didn't want to marry " that man" , Azz's son Mehmet. Did Meh met see beautiful Dilsah somewhere and told Azz he wanted her? Did they convince Dilsah to marry him by offering to help her parents?'Then , after Dilsah and Mehmet married , it was discovered that she was already pregnant ,and Mehmet and Azz started abusing her.
So...here we go again with Rey asking Mir To forgive her for not believing him after several episodes of Mir begging her to believe him. Broken record. Around and around we go.
OT...I am getting towards the end of KPA and can't believe what the writers are throwing into this story in the final episodes ruining an otherwise excellent show.
Thank you, dondi356. Very good episode and the recap is even better. The side notes are so funny and so true.
If only Reyyan waited a few seconds for Hazar to respond to Elif's accusation. Just looked at Hazar and said: "Dad?" She would have been clear - an easy path to reconciliation with Miran. Especially after the trip to Dilsah's village where their connection grew stronger. Miran is impulsive, but so is Reyyan.
I think they used the side view mirror to make the image fuzzy and not clear - to leave the scene more to our imagination. They also made Azize's face blurred. This is so they don't have to find another actress to play younger Azize.
Halva is delicious. Some ethnic stores in the area sell it. Middle eastern is usually sesame halva. Eastern European is usually sunflower halva. After chocolate is the next best thing.
"Últimos capítulos," not the end of the season, means they are going to end the series unfinished - so sad. But I will continue to watch it online.
Just a fantastic recap, dondi! You described all the things I was feeling myself. The actor playing Miran did a fine job of realizing that he'd been robbed of a wonderful, intelligent mother. I have some suspicions about what happened to her, but let's just let it unfold. I rely on your sharp eye, dondi, to pick up things I missed. I never even noticed the side view mirror and was focused on them blurring Azize's face. Am I imagining it, but wasn't there an earlier scene where they showed her younger?
And Elif finally got the truth off her chest. Maybe she'll revert back to her spunky self just in time to fall for Azat...and vice versa. You could see that Elif really still is the favorite grandchild by Azize's terror and then relief at finding her. Makes me wonder if the son that died in that car accident was the only one of the three who was not a rotten abuser.
I agree with others here that the writers are letting Zehra off too easily. Hazar, as always, is a noble person. But his cowardly wife threatened him with leaving him and taking his children. I had a moment of softening toward her during that conversation with Yusuf, But I've hardened back up.
I can hardly wait to see how Miran will behave toward HAG on Monday. I don't know if he has enough self-control to keep from blurting everything out.
It seemed a bit odd to me that Reyyan thinking he'd put Elif up to the confession was the last straw for Miran.
dondi356, I'm glad I'm not alone in being somewhat perplexed by the timeline. I confess I'm still somewhat perplexed. Would Dilsah's father have engraved the name Miran into the cradle unless he knew that she was expecting a boy? I think in the previous episode we also learned that he's the one who suggested the name Miran. Would the baby have been named Miran regardless of whether it was a boy or a girl?
Thanks, Susanlynn, Lucio, and novelera.
Lucio, I’ve only had semolina and sesame halva. I’ll have to find the sunflower. I like your take on the side view mirror. Watching so many TNs and dizis has made me a suspicious viewer and I start thinking of crockpot theories. I figure the writers and directors have a purpose in what they show us. Usually, it’s to confuse us.
And speaking of confusion: Juanita, the more I think about the timeline, the more confused I get. You’re right, Ragip said if he had a son he would have named him Miran. Could the inscription have been wishful thinking on his part? Turkish has many unisex names, but from what the woman said, Miran is for a male. No idea if Dilsah even knew her baby’s gender before birth.
novelera, they did show a young Azize once, but they needed the older one for this, so they cleverly blurred her. I can’t wait to see what Miran and HAG say to each other as well. I wonder what ReyMir talked about on their way back. Rey asked him before all hell broke loose at the end, “is that your final decision?” and he nodded “that’s what I’m going to do.”
Regarding ultimos, I don’t know what to think. I guess we won’t know until Oct 25. Hugo, you are right, we are less than half way through the original. There is no way they can cram another 40+ Turkish eps into a couple of weeks. Lucio, I hope they don’t leave it unfinished. And if they do, I will watch it online, too.
dondi356
The writers did some weird things towards the end. Some of it really ticked me off, namely Elif’s behavior. Did you see Omer’s last meeting with Tayyar? When you’re done watching, we can compare notes.
On a side note, Barbra Streisand posted on Instagram that she and her husband have been binge watching KPA until 4am. She praised the cast and the writers. This had worldwide fans very excited.
dondi356
Could either dondi or susanlynn write the name of the novela KPA that you are both commenting on. I might take a look if it's on YouTube.
The dizi is Kara Para Aşk (Black Money Love in English) and it is currently on Netflix. I don’t see the complete series in Turkish w English subs on YouTube. There are English and Spanish dubbed eps on YouTube, but I think they are horrible, especially the English.
