Hercai #16 – Parte 1 de 4

We begin with Yaren waking up to Harun in her bedroom. She is about to scream. He has his hand over her mouth and says that, if she screams, he’ll say she asked him to her room. He then tells her he’s come to tell her the rules of the game: #1 He decides the rules. #2 If she doesn’t respect the rules, it will be very bad for her. Harun: “If you try another of your tricks, I’ll make sure you’re even more afraid of me than you already are, dear Yaren. Also, this may not only be for tonight; I can come every night.” Yaren looks terrified.

ReyMir are at the ill-fated cabin. He starts a fire. She says that the chill doesn’t bother her; they need to talk. He agrees. Reyyan: “What’s going on? My mother, my father and my sister were in that house. Why did you put them at risk; why’d you keep silent after we promised to have no more secrets between us? You hid the fact that Hanife was spying on my family for your grandmother!” Miran: “I’m sorry. I already apologized for this.” Reyyan: “Your grandmother was not only capable of burning down the country house, but also to blacken my father’s name. She threatened Master Gabriel. Azize Aslanbey is involved in everything! I don’t know why you kept quiet.” Miran: “What does this have to do with us?”

Reyyan: “Because you’re protecting her in spite of everything she’s done!” He says that he’s not but Reyyan insists that he is. “You have a letter in your hands written by your own mother, but you keep on looking for more evidence. Why can’t you accept that your grandmother lies? I saw you on your knees, crying in her lap. I don’t understand, and I don’t know how to fight against this.” He starts to go to the door, and Reyyan tells him that he should think twice before leaving because, if he does so, he should not come back. “I’ll keep fighting against her lies; do I have to do it alone? But, if you leave me alone in this, it will be the point of no return for the two of us.” He comes back in and holds her while she pushes against him. He says that nothing will part them. He tucks her into bed. He goes on to say that it’s not a letter, nor evidence, nor the words of his grandmother that guides him; rather it’s their love.

It’s still night but Reyyan awakes. She asks him if he’ll speak to her father. He agrees. Then he asks her what she was dreaming about. She says: “We were beneath a tree in the summertime. A breeze blew, and then my father called you “son” and you called him “father”.”

In the morning Sukran asks Esma to call Hazar Sadoglu for her. Esma says she can’t do that. “if la señora found out…” Sukran: “Azize doesn’t have any right to interfere with my actions. Call him.”

Gonul, for some reason, shows up at the offices at the hotel and is surprised to find Azat there. She asks what he’s doing there. Azat: “I’m working. Half of this hotel belongs to the Sadoglu. Why do I have to tell you this? I’m thinking of ordering a poster to save me the trouble of having to say it so often.” An assistant comes in, and Azat asks her to bring coffee and…”take the letter opener with you lest there be an accident!” He reminds her that she embarrassed him in front of the whole of Midyat. Gonul: “So, this is revenge?” Azat: “No. It’s just that you’re at risk near sharp objects; I don’t want you to hurt yourself.” [Good one, Azat! He reminds her of when she stabbed herself trying to blame it on Reyyan.]

Hercai #16 – Parte 2 de 4

Harun comes in and seems a bit interested in Gonul. He shakes hands with her. Firat arrives and asks Gonul to come with him to the restaurant (in the hotel)-

Gonul starts up with the same old, same old. “When is he going to take action?” She wants him to take away Azize’s power over the Aslanbey businesses. “You have more power than Miran! The whole patrimony of the Aslanbey is in your hands.” Firat: “Have you any idea what you’re asking? I would not be capable of doing such a thing!” Gonul: “You have to do it! Think about how this vengeance began. Is it true what she’s told us, or is it another of her lies? The letter for example. Maybe what she’s said about my brother is another lie. We don’t know the truth about anything. Because of this we need to cortar de raiz el poder que tiene sobre nuestras vidas. (Cut the power she has over us off at the roots.)”

Flashbacks: Firat remembers what Hazar told him about the shooting up of Miran’s car that Azize planned and then blamed on Hazar’s family. “She did it because she sensed that Miran’s heart was softening. She’d tell any lie to get him to be a killer.” Then he remembers asking Esma if Hazar Sadoglu killed Tia Dilsuh. Esma tells him she doesn’t know what happened that night. But she does know that Hazar wouldn’t be capable of hurting Dilsuh. When Firat returns to the present moment, Gonul tells him that, if he doesn’t act, she will.

Hazar has come to the Aslanbey konak to pick up Sukran. A bodyguard tries to stop him. Then Azize herself tries to stop her from leaving. Sukran says that it’s her grandson and ¡Metete en tus asuntos!. (Mind your own business.) After they leave Azize smiles that canary feathers smile, saying that Sukran is doing exactly what she needs for her plans. She calls Miran.

Hazar and Sukran are inside a place in Midyat. She tells him not to look away. He should tell her what he knows, about what he said in the cemetery. He says that he’s ashamed. “Since the day I lost your daughter, Dilsuh, I have been ashamed before everyone, in a never ending agony. I can’t make it up to anyone for what happened because I couldn’t protect her. Now that we are face to face, I never wanted that to happen.” Sukran: “Neither of us wanted that tragedy. I know about pain. Talk to me.”

Hazar begins: “Miran was 4 or 5 years old then… [While Viewerville leans forward expectantly, hoping to hear Hazar tell his story about that night, Miran bursts in.] [How did he know exactly where they’d be?] Miran bares his teeth and asks Hazar what he’s doing with his grandmother. Sukran: “I called him.” Miran: “Why?” Sukran: “To be able to speak about the things you don’t want to hear.”

Being his usual insufferable self, Miran sits down beside Hazar, saying he’ll listen, leaving Reyyan standing there. She sits beside Sukran. Hazar: “Why should I? So you can accuse me of lying?” Reyyan: “¡Papá!” Good Grannie tells Hazar to speak. She wants Miran and Reyyan to listen. While the vengeance continues, no one can find peace.

Hazar tells Miran: “I need to say something first. I stayed away from your mother. The last time I saw her was before I went into the army. When I came back she had married your father. I stayed away until she wrote asking for my help. I couldn’t refuse her; and I didn’t.”

Hercai #16 – Parte 3 de 4

We again see the flashback where Sukran tries to convince Dilsuh to leave with her right now and Dilsuh tells her mother that someone is going to help her.

Sukran tells the others that Dilsuh told her this. Miran looks homicidal and asks Hazar what he was going to do for her. Hazar: “She wanted to escape with you, boy. I was to get her away from that house and help her find a place to stay where the two of you could be safe and happy. But I couldn’t do it!” Sukran: “Why did Dilsuh ask you for help?” Hazar leans forward and tells Sukran that he and Dilsuh were in love. “We were going to get married. My father sent me away for my military service, saying that I should do this before starting a family. [Grrrrr!] When I spoke with Dilsuh, she said she’d wait for me.” He turns to Miran, telling him he knows that this is hard to hear.

“When I got back from the army, my father told me you’d gotten married and that you had been born. My father hid this from me, afraid I’d create a scandal running away from the army. But I knew anyway because no more letters came from her.” Miran: “Where are the letters?” Hazar: “I know how this sounds, but the letters were stolen from the konak during a robbery.” Miran sneers.

Hazar continues; “One night I met Dilsuh in a place where we used to meet. She wanted to tell me something, but we couldn’t speak. Mehmet came. I took Dilsuh’s hand.” Miran explodes. “She didn’t want to go with you and she didn’t take your hand.” He orders Sukran to come with him.

Outside, while Miran raves, Hazar tells him to keep his word and listen. Miran says that Hazar ruined his life. Hazar: “We were going to marry. I loved your mother more than my life, and she also loved me.” While the big baby yells that his mommy only loves his daddy, Sukran interjects: “Dilsuh didn’t love his father. The Aslanbey forced her to marry him. I couldn’t stop them.”

Hazar goes on: “That night I took her hand, saying I’d help her.”

In the past we see young Hazar tell Dilsuh not to be afraid. “Tomorrow a car will take us away, someone I trust.“ Dilsuh: “There’s something else I need to tell you. Miran…” But Mehmet has gotten there. Dilsuh pleads with Hazar to go. “They’ll kill you!” He insists she come with him. We see them running through those ancient streets and a guy (Mehmet) running behind them with a gun. A shot is fired. Hazar falls.

In the present Hazar sobs, saying he doesn’t know what happened. When he woke up in the hospital, they told him that Dilsuh had been buried. “She wanted to tell me something. What was it?" He sobs. [Of course the patio knows what she wanted to say.] He approaches Miran and swears on his life that he did not kill Dilsuh. “I would not have harmed a hair on her head.”

Hercai #16 – Parte 4 de 4

Miran jumps up, calls him ¡Maldito! and pushes him. Miran: “Not that letter nor anything you’ve said changes the fact that you killed my mother. You gained her confidence and then, when she wouldn’t give herself to you, you killed her.” Reyyan pushes him away from her father and tells him to stop. Big Baby: “I’m telling the truth but you prefer to believe him!”

Reyyan: “Despite all the evidence, everything we’ve learned, despite having in your hands a letter written by your mother, you still believe what your grandmother says. Are you going to tell me you still believe her, Miran?” Sukran looks destroyed and Miran’s lips tremble. Reyyan: “I’ve tried everything. I don’t know what else to do. This is over. Let’s go, papá.” As they walk away, Hazar tells her not to do it. Miran calls her name in a trembling voice. She leaves with her father. [About time!]

Sukran tells Miran that, if he has any faith in her, he ought to believe that that man is not a killer. “Can’t you see? Remember what the note I was given for Azize said: Escribiste el pasado, pero yo escribiré el futuro. (You wrote the past, but I will write the future.) Think about what Azize has done to you.”

At the Sadoglu konak Nasuh tells the roaches that Azize arranged the fire at the country house. Handan asks how he knows, and Nasuh says that his men captured one of the guys who started the fire.

Miran and Sukran come back. Azize says: “If your favorite grandmother wants to stay in this house she needs to learn the rules. I won’t be so kind the next time she calls my enemies.” Then she asks Miran what lie Hazar told him. Miran: “You burned down the Sadoglu country house.” Azize: “I did.” Miran: “Why?” Azize: “I did it because you weren’t doing anything to save your cousin from the enemy. I couldn’t permit this boy to touch my beloved granddaughter, nor could I permit that all of Midyat celebrate this wedding. You let that Azat have your innocent cousin, the same man that loves your wife! You couldn’t do your duty to this family. Yes, if I’d known you were inside, I would have burned it earlier.”

Miran: “Of course. I understand why you burned it. Look around you, for all the awful things you do I can ask why you do them. You did it because you are Azize Aslanbey and can do whatever you please. What I want to know is how you can look me in the eye and shamelessly lie to me.”

Wonderful recap novelera! This episode seemed to drag with same old conversations and arguments but your prose and comments made it come to life! I especially liked: “No. It’s just that you’re at risk near sharp objects; I don’t want you to hurt yourself.” [Good one, Azat! He reminds her of when she stabbed herself trying to blame it on Reyyan.] Gonul deserved that “reminder” and I really like how mature Azat seems sitting in that chair, running the business.

I am trying to support Miran and the forces of good, Reyyan and Grannie Sukran, who are trying to bring him back from the dark side, but watching Azize continue to brainwash the “kid” in him, is also part of the phycological warfare carmella wrote about yesterday.

At least we learned a bit more, after suffering through the Me-ran (Big Baby) rants, about what happened that night with Dilsah. It looked like Mehmet shot Hazar in the back. I was glad Reyyan left Miran with his trembling lips. She has to draw the line with him. Good Grannie is the best and she right now is Miran’s best hope. The last scene with Miran confronting Azize about lying gave me some hope for his release from the Azize collective.

Thank you novelera for suffering through the Miran rants and providing this terrific recap!

Hercai

Novelera, thank you for a great recap of all the lying and crying .

Uff, Miran (Big Baby) is a beautiful man , but he is such high maintenance with the weeping and wailing . Rey has had the patience of a saint . I guess she is leaving him instead of taking my advice and trying some Good loving to break Azz's spell and heal him. Just saying. Maybe she could have loved the crazy right out of him. JMHO.

Then we have Azat sitting at the desk taking care of business , and BSC Harun terrorizing Yaren . What goes around comes around, girl.

What a wonderful recap, novelera! You've captured all the twists and turns of the deranged Big Baby. I felt as if I were watching the episode again, but this time I wasn't alone in my dismay at what I saw.

Miran was truly bat sh*t crazy in this episode. I was especially struck by his bug-eyed stares. He won't listen to anyone or anything. He assures Reyyan that "nothing will come between us--not my abuela or your father." He's right--the only thing that comes between them is his stubborn, pig-headed self.

I was heartened by how much more assertive Sukran has become, first in the scene where she asks Esma to make the call to Hazar and then in breaking it to Big Baby that Dilsah didn't love Mehmet, the Aslanbey forced her to marry him.

I was surprised when Azize turns out to be pleased that Sukran has left with Hazar. She says to herself (and Viewerville) that this will work out well with her plans, and she then calls Miran. I imagine she tells him that Sukran has arranged to meet with Hazar, the enemy. Perhaps Telenovela Intuition has let her know where they'll be meeting, so she passes on that information to Miran, knowing he'll go ballistic and perhaps even alienate Reyyan (Yup). (If it wasn't Azize's Telenovela Intuition--or Miran's--, I have no idea how Miran knew where Hazar and Sukran would meet.)

I'm trying to figure out what happened to the letter Dilsah wrote to Hazar that he now has, and especially the letter telling him that Miran is his son (a letter currently resting in Gul's doll's intestines). It's clear he never received those two letters, which must clearly have been written after Dilsah was married and suffering Mehmet's tortures. The second one probably was written after Hazar was shot and in the hospital, since Dilsah seemed about to tell him in person at the meeting Mehmet interrupted. My guess is that Dilsah gave the letters to Esma to give to Hazar, and Esma instead kept them for many years.

The end of the episode surprised me. After being an insufferable Big Baby who refused to recognize that all the evidence was pointing to Azize's having lied to him from childhood on, Miran suddenly turns on Azize and accuses her of lying to him. Huh? I guess we're supposed to sympathize with him as a torn, tormented soul. I felt that way in earlier episodes, but in this one, I saw him as an insufferable, bug-eyed, BSC lunatic. (Yes, I know, I hide my feelings well.)

Though most of the episode focused on Big Baby, I was also a bit struck by the scene where Harun meets Gonul. He seemed interested in her, and I found myself wondering whether it was just that she is an attractive young woman, or whether the telenovela Call of the Blood was at work, and he is really her brother. Hmmm....

OK, OK, ¡ya basta! Thanks VERY much, novelera, for this excellent recap!

herc

Juanita, excellent Miran rant and oh my goodness, could Harun be Gonul’s brother? That great theory never even crossed my mind! I think you could be on to something! Harun seems to know so, so much, even if he might be taking orders from another, older Aslanbey. Let’s add that to the overflowing crockpot!

herc

Thanks, all. These writers certainly do know how to weave a complicated plot.

I think that Dilsuh and Mehmet died that same night that Hazar was shot. It's likely that Mehmet killed her in a fit of rage and someone else killed him. My money's on Nasuh because Mehmet shot his favorite son. I believe the letter announcing "who's your daddy" was written before they met and never sent by Esma. Dilsuh realized Hazar did not know and was about to tell him just as Mehmet found them. I think this because they showed Miran as a small child seeing the two bodies in the courtyard. And, unless Hazar was in a lengthy coma, he said he woke up and found Dilsuh had been buried. Don't Muslims bury their dead within 24 hours of death? And Azize has said they died at the same time, except her version is that Hazar killed them both.

The Azat/Gonul scene was fun to watch for two reasons. I loved Azat's snark about the letter opener. And also the fact that the two actors married after the dizi finished filming. They were probably already an item while filming that.

And, yes, it's maddening the way Miran sticks to the story Azize has always told him when with any Sadoglu, but then gets in HAGs face about things she's done.

I am glad Reyyan finally gave up on Miran. I'm sure there will be plenty of angst on both sides because of their being separated. But we've all been fed up with her endless patience with him. After his hearing Hazar's version, so movingly told, and he STILL insisted on the childish idea that his mother only ever loved the saintly father Azize had portrayed, it was time to get away from him.

I hope Reyyan moving back home doesn't interfere with what Viewerville fervently hopes for: Azat falling in love with Elif.

Herc

Thank you, novelera.

Miran's behavior aside, I don't think Hazar is cleared of any wrongdoing. Miran should analyze the evidence thoroughly. Maybe set up an investigation board with pictures and strings and the question mark in the center. Hazar and Mehmet had a motive to kill each other and Mehmet is dead. What Miran has is the following witnesses:
Azize - on record to be a liar and manipulator.
Hazar - on record to be a liar, not as much as Azize.
Sucran - also lied about who she is but has the most credibility.
Sultana - low credibility.
Jeweler and his son - on record to be liars.
Evidence exhibit A: letter from Dilsa to Hazar asking for help.
So, it is premature to declare Hazar not guilty, which is what Reyyan wants, but she is biased. Who killed Mehmet? At this point, Hazar still is the prime suspect. With Dilsa it is less clear now. I would say Mehmet is the prime suspect there.

Herc

Thanks, novelera, that was a great recap. Sorry you got stuck with so much of that “Big Baby”.

Juanita, I think I could cut/paste most of your comments, especially those about Miran. LOL

I think that Harun was just being his ingratiating self with Gonul, but I sensed something between Gonul and Azat, though. I know that carmella feels they are a better pairing than Elif and Azat. After last night's interaction, I considered that possibility for the first time. Or maybe it’s because I know they are married IRL.

I’m still holding on to hope that Dilsah is still alive. Maybe Nasuh did show up and kill Mehmet. Miran could have a faulty brainwashed memory about seeing both his parents dead. But if in fact, Mehmet was the one who killed Dilsah, could it have been a murder-suicide?

Lucio, is there anyone on this show who hasn’t lied about something? lol

Thanks very much, novelera, for offering a detailed guess at when Dilsah wrote the "who's your daddy" letter. I had assumed Hazar was in a coma for a while, but I think your account makes better sense, esp. of the young Miran seeing two bodies, presumably the bodies of both his parents. And I agree Nasuh is a likely suspect for one or perhaps even both of those murders, enraged as he must have been over the shooting of Hazar.

Herc S2 #17 part 1

Slight rewind: Miran says, I understand why you set the country house on fire, you did it because you are Azize Aslanbey. But what I really want to know is how you could look me in the eyes and shamelessly lie to me.

LOL, Sultana, is preparing her own coffee [not Esma?], commenting along with us and amusing viewerville with her imitations of Azize and Miran and their tiresome argument:
It’s always the same story, “tell me grandmother, did you do it?”, “Yes, I did!”, “Why, grandmother?”, “I did it for you, grandson!” Enough of that same boring story, come up with something new, Sultana says in her own voice. I wish I had a remote control to fast forward past Azize’s lies, she adds. [Sultana is writing snarky comments for me!] Everyone’s losing their minds and I’m afraid I’ll have to take care of all of them.

The interrogation on the patio continues and Sultana comments that Miran Bey is growing more daring with his questions. Very good, she says, he’s learning from his aunt. This should make for a fine show. She heads out to watch.

Azize claims she didn’t lie to Miran. Sometimes you have to stick your hands in the mud to uncover the truth. That’s all I did, she says. I made a mistake. I should have told you the truth instead of letting you find out on your own. But you still don’t understand that they did it. They filled your head with torment and turned you against me.

How many times must we confront each other on this patio, Miran asks? You tell me not to believe these people, but my faith in you erodes a little more each day. Firat and Gonul return to the konak and join the other roaches on the patio.

Azize answers, do you know what my biggest fear is? That the Sadoglus mess with your mind and change you perception of the past. If they succeed making you forget what they did to your innocent mother, I’d be destroyed. Miran replies, how do you expect me to believe you?

He turns to leave, and HAG says, you can stop loving me and forget I am your grandmother. You can forget whatever you want and let yourself be lied to by that sinful family. But don’t forget that what I did was to wipe away the blood and restore the honor of your innocent mother. That’s all.

Sukran speaks up, May God punish you, Azize! Because of your lies, Miran can’t live his life or his enjoy his love. You ruined him. In the middle of all his problems, only Reyyan could make him smile and now she’s left him, too. The roaches are stunned. Gonul comments to Firat, she left him? Sukran continues, you (Azize) did this, you are responsible. But no more!

Miran leaves the konak and Firat calls after him. Esma warns her son not to tell Miran anything. Firat follows after Miran.

Nasuh plans an elegant revenge for Azize. We will host a dinner for Azat and Elif at the hotel, he says. She can set that place ablaze. Handan objects that Nasuh is putting Azat’s life at risk. Nasuh bristles, did I ask your opinion? If I say there’s going to be a dinner, there will be a dinner! Cihan is ok with the dinner, but he thinks it’s not enough of a payback to Azize for trying to kill Azat.

Nasuh questions, so you want bloodshed because this is your son? I’m not Azize with all that gun brandishing and drama. Since we agreed to the wedding, we will do something dignified as a family. Azat is my only grandson, our lineage continues with him. This marriage should produce a new baby asap! uh, oh.

Handan appeals to Hazar to speak up. Reyyan almost died in that fire, too. Hazar suggests going to the police. Unless hell freezes over, Nasuh is sticking with the dinner tonight! He orders someone to bring him a coffee and storms off.

Herc S2 #17 part 2

Reyyan goes to see Nasuh. She asks him if he consulted Elif and Azat on this. Did they ask me for permission to marry, he replies. She understands what he is trying to do, but she asks that he not drag them into a revenge plot. Hanife enters the room with Nasuh’s coffee and Rey gets angry. I told you to pack your things, I didn’t want to see you in this house again, she tells Hanife. Nasuh intervenes and sends Hanife out of the room.

Rey tells grandpa that Hanife is a spy, etc., she can’t stay. Nasuh is quiet and Rey realizes that he already knows. How could he keep Hanife around? Flashback. A tearful and penitent Hanife confesses to Nasuh. Azize wanted to know if anything was being planned to hurt Miran, she says, later, she wanted to know the same about Elif. When she heard from me that Azat would not touch Elif, all her fears went away. Hanife knows she will have to leave the konak. “Hakkını helal et”, she asks Nasuh before she goes.

Nasuh tells her he will forgive her and let her stay on condition she keeps him informed of Azize’s plans and whatever info she gives Azize, will be run through him first. End flashback.

Rey is skeptical about Hanife. Nasuh says Hanife’s been with them for 40 years. If she needed outside help we must have done something wrong. If we throw her out now, Azize won’t leave her in peace. Rey thinks if Hanife did it once, she can do it again. Nasuh asks her to trust him, he’s taken precautions. He asks her for something—that this business with Hanife will be the first secret that they share as grandpa and granddaughter.

Hazar interrupts the convo. He’s upset about the dinner, about continuing the revenge. He thinks Nasuh will be pouring gas on the fire. If you do this, he says, Azize will respond, and this will never end. Nasuh stands firm, the dinner is tonight!

Handan has a meltdown in her bedroom. She rants and rips the covers off the bed. Cihan tries to calm her. Handan wants the girl out of the konak, and no wedding dinner. Her son is in danger, she won’t permit it…. blah…blah…blah… If Cihan doesn’t have the avocados to confront Nasuh, she will. Cihan stops her from leaving. She will obey him, don’t speak to Nasuh or Elif, he warns. That’s it! [yeah, she’s not going to obey]

Miran is at the honeymoon cabin. He calls Rey. She is in her bedroom, and she shuts her phone. They have one of those conversations from across a distance. Me-ran: why don’t you try to understand me? Rey: I’m making as big an effort as I can, Miran. M: how do I move forward without you by my side? R: you made your choice. M: I can’t live without you, I can’t. R: we’ll have to learn to live like this.

Miran hears a car drive up. Reyyan? It’s Firat and he asks, where is Reyyan? She left, Miran replies. Firat is not surprised. He starts to make coffee. Miran snarks, did you come here to make coffee? No, I came to escape, just like you, he answers. Then make it somewhere else, I want to be alone, Miran says.

Firat asks, what are you doing? You think this will end if you lock yourself in here? If I leave you alone, will that make you happy? I’ll tell you what you are doing—nothing. You’re doing nothing. You’re just sitting here feeling sorry for yourself. Isn’t it time you started acting like a man? [Firat is becoming my new favorite]

Miran raises his voice and warns, you are crossing the line. No, Firat responds, you are, but not even in a normal way. You take shots at everyone around you. Me-ran shouts, you’re no one to judge me! Why not, Firat replies, do you think a letter makes your pain more intense than others? Are we comparing pain?

Herc S2 #17 part 3

Firat turns to leave, and Big Baby Miran knocks over a table. He shouts at Firat and follows him out. They took my life from me! They took my mother and father! You know what I’ve been through! Firat says not really, because he (Miran) doesn’t talk, he doesn’t say anything. You have to handle everything alone, Aslanbey! Miran shouts, be quiet! I will not be quiet, Firat shouts back, you have that letter and still question what’s in it! Open your eyes and accept the truth! [bravo, Firat]

Miran’s denials persist, how do you know it’s not a lie? Firat inquires, the letter is a lie, and everything is a lie, except what your grandmother says? Wake up! The letter is real! Miran yells, how can you be so sure! Firat fires back because your grandmother is lying! She dragged us into her plan for revenge. Dilsah Hala and Hazar really were in love. Miran punches Firat in the face and Firat immediately returns a blow. They go after each other for a few seconds. [I really enjoyed Firat giving Miran a boot in the ass to send him flying.]

The fire dies out and both take a moment to recover. Firat says, I don’t know about you, but my blows were brotherly. Miran says, I couldn’t blame you if you wanted to get even. Firat tells him, if that could make you see reason, I’d do it.

Firat starts to cry. Miran is stunned. We are doomed, Firat tells him, we were doomed the day we returned from Kars. We made a mistake. We are not bad people, but we did bad things. I said I’d keep the family afloat, but all I’ve done is look after the bank accounts.

Firat admits, you don’t know how much I’ve envied you. Miran asks why. Because you are a real member of the family and I’m not. [we know it’s very possible that’s the other way around] To become one, to be considered one, I believed everything that Azize Hanım would say. I thought that if I believed her, I would become an Aslanbey. But I couldn’t. That’s why I bought her story-because you believed it.

Miran says, you know I don’t have a mother like you do. All I have is my mother’s grave to kiss, what could I do? My grandmother has been mother and father to me. That’s why I believe her. Firat says, you think you are only hurting Reyyan, but that’s not true. This revenge is hurting all of us. And I hurt us by keeping my mouth shut. I came to tell you this—I won’t take part in this revenge anymore. Don’t count on me. Miran puts his hand out to Firat but he swats it away and gets up. From now on, take care of yourself, Firat says and heads to his car. His inner voice says, you’re my brother, you always have been. Hate me if it helps you come to your senses. It will mean I was a good brother.

Miran gets a call from Elif. We don’t hear that convo.

Cihan speaks with Reyyan. He asks her if she could talk to Elif about tonight’s dinner. He feels she’s the only one who can do it, Handan and Yaren can’t be trusted. Rey says she’ll do it. Cihan tells her we will get whatever Elif wants.

Azize is in her room. You made a mistake, she tells herself. A grave mistake. A mistake by dragging love into the revenge and accepting Reyyan into the family. Everything you planted in his mind is being undone by Reyyan’s love. I can’t allow that to happen.

Azize gets a call from Hanife. She tells HAG about the wedding celebration at the hotel tonight. It’s not for revenge, Hanife says, I heard with my own ears that he wants this marriage to be real. He told Azat that he wants a great grandson. Hanife cuts the call short….someone's coming. We see Nasuh sitting nearby, pleased.

Azat is on the phone with Elif. He heard and he’s coming right away. Rey asks Elif if she would like her marriage to be real. She would love that. Rey says then don’t give up no matter the obstacles. Fight for it. Come on, lets get ready, she adds.

dondi356

Herc S2 #17 part 4

Miran shows up. Elif tells Rey, you have a good reason to fight, too, and he’s right in front of you. Talk to each other. Elif walks a short distance away.

How are you, Miran asks Rey. Not good, Rey replies.

Azize asks Esma where Miran and Firat are. I need them. Esma asks, what are you going to do now? Something I should have done before, Azize hisses.

Why are you here, Rey asks Mir. You know, he says. You can’t just come as if nothing has happened, Rey tells him. I came because of something that happened, he replies, I just want to talk to you. She retorts, you only listen to your truth. If anyone says opposite, you don’t listen. If you don’t believe the evidence you have, what is there to talk about?

She notices his face is bruised. It’s nothing, a fight with Firat. Don’t you realize the extent of your rage, she asks? You’re even fighting with Firat because you refuse to open your eyes. He excuses it by saying he loses his control when she is not near him. I start to feel trapped, he says. If you come back we will fix our problems together. I’ve always been here, Miran, she replies, you’re the one who turned his back and went his own way.

He asks, what do you want me to do, Reyyan? Come to the wedding celebration tonight, she says. He sighs. She tells him she will save a seat right next to her. If you come, I can trust you. It will mean you’re fighting to believe and that means a lot. If you don’t come, then I’ll know I’ve been living a hopeless, empty dream and what we have will be over.

You would let this end, Miran asks? That is your decision, Rey replies. Do you know how much I love you, he says. Her voice quivers, and you know I love you, too. But love isn’t enough. She gives him a hug and wipes a tear. Don’t let this end, she tells him.

They are interrupted by Azat yelling for his grandfather. Rey tells Miran to hurry and go. She leaves but he sticks around to listen.

Here come the roaches, scurrying out on to the patio. Azat is pissed. What is the idea of this dinner? Is she a toy? Do this, do that? I don’t know what you are doing, but I thought everything was clear. Nasuh says, did you hear what Azize did? She tried to kill my grandchildren. And we are going to show how much Elif is worth. Is that wrong?

Azat replies, I know what you are trying to do, but don’t drag Elif into your game. What do you think I want to do, Nasuh asks. I am just trying to keep my family together. I’m not dragging Elif into anything. I’m trying to show how much we love her!

Cihan steps in. It’s not about your grandfather, it’s about what you and Elif want. Understand? Handan pipes up, Azat doesn’t want this. Azat shuts his mother down. What do you know about what we want? I want us to be left alone and for Elif not to be tricked. Hazar says no one was tricked. Elif accepted.

Azat looks at Elif. Hazar asks his nephew to give it more thought. The question is if you want the same thing as she does. [unfortunately, we know he doesn’t] Azat says he wants Elif to be happy. (Miran gives an approving nod from afar.) Hazar says, you can’t make everyone happy, Elif made her decision. Now it’s either what her heart wants or what yours wants.

I think this is Azat’s voice over as we see the last minute prep for the wedding celebration at the hotel: Telling the difference between right and wrong is easy. It’s hard choosing between two rights and two wrongs. Choosing between what is best and what causes the least harm.

The family arrives. Gul rushes in. She shouts, how pretty!

The voice over continues as the Sadoglu file in: Sometimes you make the decision yourself, sometimes you’re forced to decide.

We see Azize’s car pull up to the hotel. We see Mahmut and his crew assembled outside the hotel, too.

dondi356

Herc S2 #17 part 5

Voice over picks up: every choice means leaving something behind. No, every choice brings hope. (Reyyan enters.) Because people need hope. We all have hope for something. A struggle. (We see Handan, Nasuh, Azize.) A loss, pain.

We all feel loneliness and sadness (we see Reyyan look at the empty seat beside her), because we all have someone to say goodbye to. (we see a smiling Hazar with Gul next to him)

Handan gets a call and she sneaks outside and gets in Azize’s car. I’m listening, she says. Pay attention, HAG says, I want you to convince Elif to return with me and I’ll put an end to my revenge. Otherwise, I will go in with my men and take her by force. And that’s not all, Handan. I’ll drag your son into my revenge, too. Now go… and get my granddaughter to return to me.

Handan replies, not even all your men can take Elif from the Sadolgu konak. Only I can give her to you. If you could’ve taken her, you already would have. You came to me because you know you can’t. You need me. Azize stares straight ahead, silent. Now you pay attention, Handan warns, don’t use my son to threaten me again. Elif might be your granddaughter, but Azat is my son. Understood? Azize gives Handan a dismissive look. Handan leaves.

Rey looks sad. Miran hasn’t showed yet. Gul asks Azat where is Elif. Cihan tells him to go get his bride. As Azat goes for Elif, he comes face to face with Gonul at the entrance. The Aslanbeys file into the room. Nasuh gets up to greet them, hoşgeldiniz! (welcome) Some faces are more friendly than others. Azat tells Gonul “buyurun” (he’s inviting her to come in). He goes to get Elif.

Gonul follows Azat. Why did you approve this dinner, she asks? Did you need a report, he replies. If this bother you so much, why did you come? Most, if not all of the Aslanbeys are here. I know you don’t love Elif, she says, you are just doing this to hurt my grandmother.

Azat tells her he is not a psycho like her family. I wouldn’t toy with Elif as part of a revenge, he says. Elif and I decided to hold this reception. I’d never make her do anything she didn’t want by deceiving her. Really, Gonul counters, then what happened with Reyyan? Barging into the mansion and taking her? What was that? Didn’t you do that because you love her?

Azat tells her his reasons are none of her business. You’re no one to talk about love. Love isn’t about losing control. That’s exactly what love is, Gonul replies. But your actions weren’t about love. Because you were never really in love with Reyyan, were you? How could you know what I feel, Azat asks.

I know because of me, she answers. If you think about it, you and I are trapped in the same swamp. But I know a few things about you, Azat. [Turkish] You are a man who is enslaved by your mercy. That’s what you feel for Reyyan. What you call love is nothing but the desire to help those in need. But you don’t know what love is. Otherwise, Miran would have never entered your lives and you would be in his place. You are the man who chooses unhappiness on purpose, and you are doing the same thing now. Please don’t drag Elif into this unhappiness.

Azat says he never promised Elif his heart would beat for her. It was both of our decisions to get married. All I promised was friendship, he says, I’ve never lied to her. So that’s how you comfort yourself, Gonul asks. Fine, keep telling yourself that, but it won’t take long to understand. One day you will see how much you are hurting Elif. Azat looks shocked.

Elif is in a nice, white gown, smiling at herself in the mirror. I’m going to be so happy, she says. The door opens and she turns, smiling. That smile quickly fades and she asks, what do you want?

And we are out.

Wow, dondi356, another magnificent recap, that not only captures everything but offers an assortment of terrific asides. I especially enjoyed your comment that Sultana is writing snarky comments for you, and your observation about the Aslanbey status of Miran and Firat: "[we know it’s very possible that’s the other way around]."

So Nasuh thinks he's converted Hanife into a double agent. (But perhaps she's a triple agent?)

I was puzzled when I heard the mystery voice commenting on Life as we watch the last-minute preparations for the wedding celebration. I didn't recognize the voice. As I watched the episode, it seemed simply a mystery voice that went on for too long. However, you do a compelling job of linking what the voice is saying to what we are seeing, and you've convinced me that the voice is Azat's.

Handan sometimes drives me up the wall, but I was definitely on Team Handan in her meeting with Azize. My guess is that Azize thought Handan would simply cave in to her demands. I was delighted to see Handan dismiss Azize's threats and point out that Azize called her because she knew she needed her.

In the past, when you've labelled a passage "[Turkish]," I've thought that either the passage did not appear in the Spanish dubbing or the Turkish version differed from what that Spanish dubbing said. But this time, what you've reported (near the end of part 5) seemed quite similar to what I recall hearing in the Spanish version. Have I missed something?

Wow! At first I didn't even recognize Elif in her wedding gown. What a transformation! I wonder what Azat's reaction will be.

Many thanks for yet another superb recap!!

herc

Terrific recap, dondi! Thanks so much. I also loved the aside about Sultana doing the snark for you. Sometimes I really like Sultana and other times...

Nasuh really is intent on poking the bear, isn't he?

From what we've seen so far, Nasuh only found out about Hanife being a spy when she confessed. Unless I missed something, I think he believes she's a paid informant. But everyone seems to know everyone else in these dizis, unless we're in Istanbul! If Nasuh knew young Azize, wouldn't he have known that Hanife was her sister?

I was hoping Reyyan would freeze Miran out longer and at least show some outrage about his treatment of the father she adores.

Elif looked gorgeous. I'll be really furious if Handan convinces her to leave the celebration and get in the car with Psycho Grannie. And how could Elif believe the BS about her stopping the revenge if she comes back?

I got a kick out of the expression on Yaren's face while sitting beside Harun at the table. I like seeing her cowed, but somehow I don't think the marriage between the two will take place. I thought maybe his family was after the Sadoglu money and prestige and that, yes, he was a sociopath. But he's playing a longer game than that and either is an Aslanbey himself or is working for the mysterious note sender.

Thank you dondi356 for yet another superior recap. This episode was very interesting. The fight with Firat and Miran made me laugh. Finally, some literally tries to knock some sense into Me-ran because clearly, the slap from Hazar in the cemetery didn’t make a dent.

I am glad to see Reyyan sticking to her guns and not being sucked back in. Miran needs to grow up. I can't stop thinking about the bawling scene earlier in the week with his head in HAG’s lap.

Sultana wanting to fast forward the conversations certainly spoke for most of us on the patio!

Elif looked beautiful. I hope I get to recap a beautiful wedding dinner, but I fear that isn’t going to be the case.

Fatmagul #24 part 1

As Rahmi gets ready to take Murat to school, Fatma, Meryem and Kerim gather in the house to confront Mukaddes. Rahmi and Murat leave and all eyes are fixed on Muka. What happened, she asks? I heard you, Fatma replies and motions to head to the living room.
What did you hear, Muka asks? I saw you hiding in the garden talking on the telephone.

What hiding, Muka says, I was talking to Beyhan. Don’t lie, Fatma tells her, I heard you talking to a man. What did you hear, Muka asks? Fatma accuses, you were talking to your lover! With that, Muka grabs a fistful of Fatma’s hair. Kerim and Meryem separate them. Fatma screams, you lied all these years! Muka calls her crazy.

While they are busy arguing, no one sees Rahmi and Murat return to the house. Rahmi enters just a Fatma cries out, I heard say from your own mouth that Murat is not my brother’s son! In shock, Rahmi drops something, and everyone turns.

Fatma goes to her brother. He says he came back for Murat’s lunchbox. He’s stunned. Muka tells him, I can explain. The time has come. Murat is outside and calls out, Dad! Come! Rahmi stares at Murat. Kerim goes out to Murat, do you want to wait in the car?
Rahmi sits with Muka and Fatma. Muka asks Meryem to stay and listen, too.

I loved a man, Muka starts, with all my heart. He loved me a lot, too, or so he said. [Turkish] I gave into him knowing he would marry me. Muka sniffs back her tears. Teary Rahmi says, don’t cry. Kerim comes back into the house and listens.

Muka picks up, when I found out I was pregnant, I told him let’s get married quickly. This town is small, if my mother finds out, she’ll kill me. All of my girlfriends had gotten married, and they were very happy. I told him not to make me wait. He told me he would be back in 10 days and bring his parents. But he left and never came back. Fatma is getting teary, too.

Muka continues, I went to the hospital alone, I was so ashamed sitting there. People would begin to talk and if anyone found out they would have called me a prostitute. I was ashamed and afraid of my brothers. [in the Turkish she says her brothers would have killed her then and there.]

Muka relates that when she was small, they killed a woman in town for the same reason. And do you know what the people said? Do you know what they told the men in that family? “Well done!”, they said. I was thinking about that when we met, she tells Rahmi. You lost your parents the day before. Rahmi, I didn’t fool you, I took refuge in you. Do you understand?

Rahmi says, I wondered with a head like mine, how could my son be so intelligent and so cute. How could it be? Could I have such luck? Rahmi gets up, Murat will be late. Muka asks Rahmi, aren’t you going to say anything? He looks at her, what can I say? Nothing. Rahmi leaves the house with Kerim and Fatma goes with them. Meryem tells Muka to wash her face and calm down.

Murat runs from the truck to his dad. Dad, Dad! Where were you? Rahmi bends down for his son and embraces him, I am here, my son. Murat asks what happened. Nothing. Murat asks Fatma why she is crying. She denies she was crying. They get in the truck and go. How heartbreaking.

Meryem sits with Muka. He said, “what can I say”, Muka tells Meryem, now he knows. Meryem says I wish you didn’t hide it. Muka thinks he wouldn’t have wanted her. That’s why I told Fatmagul to marry Kerim, Muka says. Meryem wipes Muka’s tears. People think you are something dirty, Muka says, they don’t know what you went through. Muka cries, now you won’t want me around either. Meryem says that is between Muka and Rahmi. Muka thinks Rahmi won’t want her.

Meryem has some advice. Don’t do anything stupid, stay away from that man. She asks, what did he say when he found out about Murat? He didn’t care, Muka replies. Meryem says not to say anything to Murat.

Fatmagul #24 part 2

So sad to see Rahmi sitting on the curb outside Murat’s school sobbing. Kerim suggests they stop at the pharmacy for a sedative.

Munir watches Erdo arrive to work from his window. Before he enters, Erdo speaks with Ismail to coordinate how they will get info on Mustafa. Ismail calls Mustafa and his father answers the phone. Ismail asks where Mustafa is. There is a very important meeting this morning and he is late. Emin says Mustafa is in the hospital, he had an accident, and he is in intensive care. Ismail says they will come but Emin says it’s better if they stay in contact by phone.

Halide cries over her stupid son. Mustafa asks for Asu. She’s with the cops, Emin says. Halide questions Mustafa, what does she know? Why does she suspect someone? She’s upset he might be tangled up in some bad stuff. Emin pulls her away and gently tells her to stay calm or she should leave.

Munir is waiting in Erdo’s office. What did you tell Gaye, he asks? Erdo replies, if a man is interested in a woman and makes it clear from the beginning, the other man should do the honorable thing and step aside. Munir jumps up and shouts that Erdo is the dishonorable one. [I think it’s a tie] Words are exchanged and Erdo punches Munir. Resat and Selim happen to be passing by and rush in to stop the fighting. Munir shouts he won’t do anything to help Erdo anymore and leaves.

Muka sits in her room. She starts packing a suitcase and places it by her open window. She walks through the kitchen and tells Meryem she’s going out for air. She wants to be alone for a while. Muka picks up the bag from her room and sneaks away and hails a cab.
Kerim, Fatma and Rahmi stop in a restaurant. What am I going to do now, Rahmi asks.
Murat isn’t my son. Kerim says, how is he not your son? You raised him, he is your son. Fatma says Murat is our boy. Even if he doesn’t have our blood are you going to stop loving him? Of course not, Rahmi responds. Murat is your son, Fatma says.

Meryem feels a draft coming from Muka’s room. She enters and closes the open window. She also sees that Muka has emptied her clothes from her closet along with Murat’s.

Poor Rahmi says Muka loved that man, she never loved me. Meryem calls Kerim to say Muka flew the coop. She took her clothes and Murat’s. Rahmi calls the school, and we see Muka hurrying Murat away from school. The school confirms that Muka took her son.

Cut: Muka’s in a cab with Murat. He asks where they are going, are they going to cross the bridge? Muka tells him to be quiet. Fatma tries calling Muka. She shuts the phone. Rahmi grabs the phone and calls. He leaves a pleading message: Mukaddes, come back. Don’t take Murat away. Don’t take him away.

Munir blathers on about what Erdo did with Gaye. Meltem calls Selim to remind him she’s invited the family to their new house for dinner. That’s a problem because Munir and Erdo are at odds. At least we find out that Gaye won’t attend she’s leaving the country tomorrow.

Ismail delivers the Mustafa news to Resat, Selim and Munir. Was it an accident, they ask. Ismail doesn’t know but when he spoke to the father, his answers were evasive, and it sounded like something worse. Mustafa is in intensive care. Munir says he will go to the hospital. Resat says to be careful. Erdo is pleased with himself.

Asu and Halide are in Mustafa’s room. Mustafa begins to wake and says to Asu, you are here? She holds his hand, she strokes his hair. She is very attentive, and Halide takes note of their interaction. Mustafa is still not fully conscious and says, Fatmagul, have you forgiven me? Don’t leave me. Don’t go. Fatmagul…you finally forgave me. Both Asu and Halide are upset. Halide leaves the room.

Fatmagul #24 part 3

Fatma, Kerim and Rahmi arrive home. Rahmi sadly tells Meryem that Muka left and took Murat. Meryem knows. She took my life, Rahmi says. While Rahmi washes his face, they whisper. Muka probably went to that man.

Fatma looks around in Muka’s room. She took the bank books, too.

Rahmi goes to the room and sees the emptied closet. He sits on the bed and cries. He tells Fatma what if I never see Murat again? That won’t happen, Fatma replies. Kerim says, let’s go talk about what to do.

Indeed, Muka shows up at Salih’s business. Salih is in his office with his father. Salih is stunned to see Muka, Murat and the suitcase. The father, Remzi, greets Muka. Salih explains she is from their town. Remzi asks her to sit. He asks Murat, what is your name? Murat is shy and he tells his mom, let’s go. Finally, Murat gives his name. What a cute boy, Remzi says, God bless him! Muka’s happy.

Salih asks Muka, so how’s your husband? Fine, he sends his regards. Muka says they were out and stopped in for some tea. Salih calls for tea and his dad tells him to order something for the boy, too.

Meryem has an idea. What if we go and close the bank account? Fatma doesn’t care about the money, but Meryem says Muka can’t survive without money for long. Maybe she will come back then.

Kerim tells Rahmi that Muka will see the messages on her phone and call. We will find her. Rahmi says, will my son call that man dad now? Meryem tells him, you are Murat’s father, you raised him, you kissed him, you love him.

Rahmi worries that Murat won’t miss him. [Turkish] He will never call me “daddy” again. Kerim says of course he will. He will say “Dad” again, he will say “Aunt” again. She can’t hide him from you. All Rahmi can think is that Muka took Murat and they went to that man. Rahmi asks Kerim to find them. Kerim gives his word he will.

Murat start to read the words on the grocery bag. Remzi is impressed. Muka says Murat learned to read on his own, he’s very smart. He calls Murat over and kisses his cheeks. Ha, ha, Murat wipes them off.

Salih reminds his father he will be late. Muka asks if he’s going to Friday prayer. If God accepts, he replies. May God accept it, Muka says. Muka kisses Remzi’s hand. He says nice to meet you, give my regards to your husband. Muka tells Murat to say goodbye to grandpa. [the look on Salih’s face! Salih’s dad seems like a very nice man, and Salih is a creep]

Remzi goes and Salih and Muka send Murat off with an employee. An argument starts. Muka is ticked Salih won’t accept Murat is his son. Your father likes Murat, she says, maybe he felt it. Salih asks what she wants from him. Muka says she told him on the phone, she’s homeless with her son. They found out, they threw me out. She wants him to take care of them. Ok. Salih says they will resolve this. First he will find a hotel for them to stay temporarily.

Fatma didn’t like Kerim giving hope to Rahmi. Why did you say you would find them? Because I will, Kerim answers. Do you think she will give us Murat, Fatma asks? Meryem says they should be careful, she could use the boy in her favor. Then we should do nothing, Kerim asks, and let Rahmi get sick? Kerim says we know where the business is. I’m going to talk to him. Fatma says she’s going, too.

There’s a knock at the door. Rahmi jumps and runs to open it. He thinks it’s Muka returning. It’s Beyhan and Emre. They brought some fertilizer for the garden. Fatma takes Rahmi away from the door while Meryem speaks to Beyhan. Rahmi falls to his knees and starts to cry. Beyhan hears Rahmi cry, you won’t come back! She took my son and won’t come back. Beyhan asks if Muka is home. Meryem says she had to go back to her town for a sick relative.

dondi356

Fatmagul #24 part 4

Rahmi has a total meltdown. He cries and shouts and starts hitting himself on the head. My son! My son! Kerim has to restrain him. Fatma tries to calm him and takes him into her arms. Kerim looks very much affected by this.

As they leave, Beyhan tells Emre there’s something strange in that house again. Mukaddes left and Rahmi cried she’s not coming back.

Kerim and Fatma leave the house. She gets in the front seat with Kerim!

Asu sits by Mustafa’s bedside. Halide goes to see Emin in the cafeteria. She asks, how come you haven’t come to see Mustafa? Emin asks if that girl is still there. Yes, what happened? Emin drops a bomb. I read the statement. It’s all this girl’s fault. She’s a prostitute. The girl’s enemies stabbed Mustafa.

Mustafa wakes up. He asks for his mother. Do you want me to call her, Asu asks? No. You can go, he tells her. Why? I don’t want you to stay, he says. She won’t leave him. I’m not alone, he says, go. Mustafa wins that battle. Asu gets ready to leave. He will call her.

Munir comes to see Musto. Ismail informed me, what happened? Bad luck, Mustafa replies. An accident? Tell me? I was stabbed, Musto says.

Asu runs into Halide and Emin on her way out. She tells them Mustafa woke up, I’ll see you later. Emin says don’t come back. Stay away from Mustafa. I know everything…. And I don’t want worse things to happen. She runs off, sobbing.

Sami is outside waiting for Asu. She runs from him. He grabs her. She tells him to let go and says she told the police everything. He says what she did was bad. And she says she is not afraid. [Turkish] You’re still Bilal’s property, Sami tells her. Bilal won’t leave unfinished business. He (Mustafa) won’t get lucky next time. This is not an easy exit. Sami tells her to go home and wait for his call.

Munir asks Musto what he’s doing with those kind of people. Leave that girl. You’re Resat Yasaran’s man. Musto’s parents enter the room. Munir gives his get well wishes and his card. If you need anything, call me. He leaves.

Mustafa asks his mother why she looks upset. Your father went to the police station, she replies. Enough said. Musto understands.

Kerim and Fatma head to Salih’s. Kerim thinks it’s a longshot to find Muka there, but they might be able to get information. Fatma says when she heard Muka’s story, she learned many things. I realized why she was always like that with me. They were her fears because of her disappointment. Finally, I know the real Mukaddes. But now she went too far.

Kerim and Fatma find Salih’s place. Kerim tells her she doesn’t have to go in. Of course, she’s going in. They ask for Salih and find out he just left. Do you know when he will be back? No, the man says, he might not be coming back today.

Kerim says it’s urgent they speak with him. Fatma asks if a woman and a boy came here today. This man doesn’t know so they ask the guy who brings the tea. He says yes, they visited and left together. I think she was from his hometown. The woman had a suitcase. [bingo!] Fatma asks if he has Salih’s number. No, but if you leave yours, I’ll tell him to call when he gets back. Kerim writes his name and number.

Salih’s dad returns to the warehouse with fruit for Salih to take home for his kids. He asks Kerim and Fatma to take. No thank you. The employee tells Remzi that they are looking for Salih. Remzi says if it’s business, he can help. Kerim says it’s another matter and he’s leaving his name and number for Salih to call. Kerim and Fatma leave.

Remzi asks the employee who those people were. They are relatives of the woman who came this morning, I think. They first asked for Salih and then if there was a woman and a child here. Remzi is concerned. He wants to call Salih.

Fatmagul #24 part 5

Salih brings Muka to the hotel room. He carries the sleeping Murat and places him on the bed. Salih gets a call from his father. Where are you? I had something to do, Salih replies. What? A client, I am with him.

Remzi says there were people here looking for you, a young man, Kerim Ilgaz. Kerim Ilgaz, Salih asks, I don’t know him. Uh, oh. Muka’s smile fades. Salih sees Muka’s face and says to his dad, ah, he’s an army buddy. What does he want? Remzi doesn’t know but he left his number to call when you return. Remzi says call him and let me know, I’m curious.

Muka asks Salih, Kerim asked about you? He’s my SIL’s husband. She panics. They are going to find us. They know who you are. Salih is angry. This is your fault. I told you not to come to my business. He shouts, why did you come? I don’t want problems with my family. What did you do? Muka says we have to solve this.

Salih grabs Muka by the throat. Do you think I’m going to destroy my life for you? I’m not going to lose everything I’ve gained, damn you and your son! Murat wakes up with the shouting and sees his mother and Salih struggling. Salih leaves. Murat asks why they were yelling. He wants to go home. She tells him to go back to sleep and she will be right back.

Muka follows Salih out to the street. She calls out, I’m calling your father. Can I speak with Remzi Bey? Salih says, give me that phone. Hello Remzi Bey, Muka says, it’s Mukaddes. We met, remember? You met my son Murat today, he is your grandson.

Salih shouts, what are you doing?! And he cracks Muka across the face so hard she falls over onto a parked car. He continues to beat her out on the sidewalk. He throws her to the ground and grabs her hair and drags her. People hear the screams and run out. Salih lets go of Muka. Some men push Salih away, he keeps screaming at Muka, I’ll kill you!

The bystanders help Muka up and sit her down against the building. Do you want us to call the police, a man asks? Do you need help. Muka is in shock. They bring her paper towels to wipe the blood from her face. They help Muka back into the hotel.

Murat is inside crying, I want my mother. Murat asks, what happened? That man hit you? Muka sobs and shakes her head no. Come, come, she tells Murat. They go back to their room.

Meryem and Rahmi talk. Meryem says Muka had a hard life. She didn’t know compassion. That’s why she had to make hard decisions to survive. We don’t know if it was right or not, but she had a lot of luck meeting and marrying you.

Rahmi relates, “I’m never going to leave you, she said. I’m going to take care of your sister. We will be a family.” Really, she took care of us. We ran our business with her help. She was a hard working woman. She was always mad at me. I’d forget things.

Meryem tells him he is a very good person. That’s what’s important. You are a very good husband and a loving father. Don’t think bad about yourself. Rahmi says at times she would tell me “better I leave with my son”. I was scared. She did it and left with my son. He cries. She comforts. I miss my son very much, he tells Meryem. She reminds him that Kerim and Fatma said they would bring him back. What if they can’t, he cries, and I never see him again?

Kerim and Fatma are parked. She’s crying. Please don’t cry now, we have to go home, Kerim says. How am I going to tell him, she asks? Kerim reaches out to give her a comforting touch but he stops himself. Please don’t cry, he says. Kerim adds, we won’t say anything for now. We will say we can’t find them… until we do. And then, Fatma asks? They are both married. If they choose to run away, we can’t change their minds. Kerim says he’s more worried about Murat. Do you think she told Murat? Fatma cries at the thought. Kerim tells her to calm down. She wipes her eyes and they drive again.

Fatmagul #24 part 6

Murat says, you’re lying. You didn’t fall, mom. That man hit you. Muka denies it. He yelled at you, Murat says, he scared me a lot. Muka asks if he wants something to eat. I want to go home, he says, I don’t want anything to eat. Muka puts on the TV. He doesn’t want the TV, he wants to go home. Murat starts crying, and says I want to go home. Take me home.

Everyone is at Meltem and Selim’s for dinner. Perihan asks if Gaye is coming. No, she’s leaving on a trip tomorrow she has to get ready. Resat asks where Selim is. He’s on the phone trying to convince Vural to come to dinner with us. Erdo says he will go see.

Selim tells Vural what happened to Mustafa. It was that girl’s fault. It was her boss’ men. Vural asks if Asu is ok. Selim doesn’t care about her, but Mustafa almost died. It would be better if those guys finished him once and for all, he says. Erdo hears this and doesn’t like it. Why, Selim asks, don’t you think the same? Selim gets back to the reason he called. Why don’t you come to dinner? Everyone is here. No thanks, Vural says, all the more reason not to come. He hangs up.

Erdo tells Selim to stop talking about what happened to Mustafa. Do you want them to kill Mustafa? You want him to die? Selim says, are you going to tell me you don’t? Are we murderers now, Erdo asks? Do we want to kill Mustafa? Don’t start, Selim says, you want him dead, too.

Vural tries calling Asu. "The number you called is not in use."

Mustafa’s parents are by his side. Halide says, this is all Fatmagul’s fault. Surely she wanted this and that’s why he’s in the hospital. [Really?] Emin says, how can you think that? [I’d like to know, too] Halide replies, my son was not a person like this, he never did anything bad. This is all her fault. He was a very smart man. He confused that woman with Fatmagul. He only knew Fatmagul and now that slut appeared.

A nurse comes in to check Mustafa. His temperature is high. She calls the doctor to come right away. He might have an infection. The nurse asks Halide and Emin to leave. They see Asu waiting outside Mustafa’s room. What are you doing here, Halide asks?

The doctor hurries into Mustafa’s room. Halide, Emin and Asu worry outside.

And we are out.

Another fab recap dondi356! Thank you! Sultana, Sultana, Sultana! Had to admit that she out did herself this episode! I couldn’t help but laugh and begrudgingly agree with her, lol. If she weren’t such a conniving sour grape, though she has every reason to be, I could see myself in her corner. Although she didn’t create the monster that is now Azize, she and especially, Esma fed the fire breathing dragon’s smoke. They’ve helped her to become invincible in her own mind and lie as if she weren’t! Too funny though, cause it always ends up the same with her and Miran. She lies and he rolls over like a dog wanting his belly scratched! And Azize knows exactly where his itch is! It’s pathetic!

Boy fight! Cracked me up! Like I really hope you knocked a little sense into Miran, Firat, but he did dodge a couple of those punches, and what can we say cause Miran said it all———he’s a GRANNY’s boy! Lol!

Like novelera, I’d hope Reyyan would’ve held out longer instead of giving him another chance so quickly. She’s teaching him how to manipulate her feelings all in the name of love. All he has to do is start boo-hooing like a 3 yr old, and Reyyan wants to save him—— and eventually that looks just like manipulation, not eternal, undying, forever my soulmate love. Give him more time away from you Reyyan, please!!!

Sorry, but I saw the sparks again between Azat and Gonul, and I think they’re bound to happen. Ironic twist if the cousins Elif and Gonul Aslanbeys end up vying for the love of Azat Sadoglu! Haha! That would be a great plot twist!! And honestly, I think Gonul was right about Azat having a “savior” complex. Elif did look beautiful though, and really happy! I hope she will be, but I don’t think it will be with Azat……

Confused about one thing though???? Nasuh said that Hanife has been with them 40 yrs, but isn’t Miran only like 27 or 28? Did I miss something?????

Thanks again dondi356 for your wonderful recap, and for all the great commenters on this forum that give me food for thought!

Carmella, I burst out laughing when I read your account of Azize and Miran: "it always ends up the same with her and Miran. She lies and he rolls over like a dog wanting his belly scratched! And Azize knows exactly where his itch is!" What a terrific image!

I too wondered about Nasuh's saying that Hanife had been with them for 40 years. Miran was a young boy when his parents died, and Azize always talks about that as having happened 27 years ago, which would make Miran about 30. But the more we learn about Nasuh, the more it seems that the venganza didn't really start with Mehmet's death. It seems to have at least as much to do with what happened to Ayse and Azize when they were young women. It's possible that Hanife started working for the Sadoglu 40 years ago, when she was a young woman. It's not clear whether she was a spy from the start, or whether Azize converted her into a spy somewhere along the way.

It may be important to remember that Hanife and Azize apparently came from a humble background. Just as Hanife went to work for the Sadoglu, Azize went to work for the Aslanbey. She only became Azize Aslanbey when she managed to marry the son of the Aslanbey family's head. Whe he died, the son became head of the Aslanbeys. I don't think we know what happened to him, though we can guess. And then Azize, his widow, became the head of the family.

Although the dizi has so far focused most of our attention on Miran and Reyyan, it looks as though there's a lot still left to be uncovered about what happened in the years before either of them was born, events that increasingly seem to be crucial to Azize's thirst for venganza.

Fatmagul

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dondi!!! I love this show. There's so much I want to say but I hurt my hand and typing is nearly impossible at the moment so I will pick just a couple.

I thought it was interesting when Fatma and Rhami and Kerim were at the restaurant and Fatma was saying what she was about how Rhami protected Muka and how important that was. Is she starting to value Kerim's role in her life???

Remzi really did seem like a really good man. So warm and generous, certainly goes to show it's not always like father like son...and Salhi so scared of what daddy will say tells us that he has already disappointed his dad plenty of times. This guy has been a world-class jerk his whole life, probably has multiple scorned women in his history.

Rhami's scenes were really heartbreaking to watch, the actor did a fantastic job with this!!

Point well taken Juanita! And ITA that this venganza goes waaaaaaaaaaay back! Before Miran and Reyyan were even thought of. Even in my crockpot theory that Azize is Ayse and Hazar is Azize and Nasuh’s love child, many things don’t add up yet! Cause if Azize/Ayse and Hanife both worked for the Sadoglus as young women( which would be how Azize/Ayse met Nashuh) how would Nasuh not know that Hanife is Ayse’s sister? Or does he? Which is another reason why he keeps her around??? He just doesn’t know that Azize is Ayse which is why he doesn’t know they are sisters.

This makes Hanife’s want of revenge make even less sense! 40 yrs of her life! What was her take away at the end of all this?? Nope——-makes no sense at’all!!!!

Fatmagul

Thank you, dondi356.

"Muka cries, now you won’t want me around either. Meryem says that is between Muka and Rahmi. Muka thinks Rahmi won’t want her." This could be Muka's explanation why she left, but that is only on the surface. I think she knows that Rahmi and the rest will forgive and accept her. The real reason she left is that she saw an opportunity to escape from the life she didn't want. No consideration that she hurt Rahmi and Murat in the process. Big gamble and it didn't go the way she wanted. Like Darcy said, she really picked a winner in Salih.

"Halide cries over her stupid son." - too much Mustafa.

"She gets in the front seat with Kerim!" - the exclamation point at the end of the sentence. Again, small steps. The authors pointed it out to us by having Kerim pausing to note it. I like how much detail is conveyed without saying a word.

While dealing with Mukaddes, Fatmagul puts on hold her shunning of Kerim and they spend a lot of time together cooperating. Something for Fatmagul to consider: why is Kerim doing all this, helping Rahmi, helping her in dealing with the situation? He could just not care.

Thank you, everyone. Great comments.

Juanita, Hanife as a triple agent is great. She’s worked for Azize, Harun and Nasuh. And she has her own agenda as well because she’s become bitter about wasting her life in the revenge game. Watching the Turkish version, I’m 99.9% sure the voice over is Azat.

About my use of Turkish in part 5, I had a “blip” in my broadcast, so I used the Turkish translation. Since Juanita questioned it, I looked at the Spanish online this morning. The word used was “piedad”, that can be translated as pity or mercy. The Turkish word was “merhamet”, pity or mercy. I was covering just in case there was a difference. You missed nothing. Sorry if that was confusing.

novelera, ITA about Sultana. I liked her a lot on Friday. I thought that was a highlight of the episode.

VVS, I liked the Firat – Miran scene, too. Another highlight in the ep.

Yes, Halimacandy: “finally even the dog/ Firat has Seen THE LIGHT..OMG!!” Miran has to wake up before he loses all the people that truly care about him. I’m glad you mentioned that the Turkish version opening features quotes from great Persian poets, Shams Tabrizi and Mevlana (aka Rumi). Something else that’s unfortunately missing in our version.

BTW, the Turkish version subtitle for Hercai is: “İntikamdan doğan imkansız bir aşkın hikayesi”, The story of an impossible love born from revenge.

Susanlynn, ITA, Elif did look like a Disney princess.

carmella, In the past couple of eps I’ve sensed a possible Gonul – Azat connection. I’d hate to see Elif heartbroken though. She deserves an HEA with the love of her life.

And I am convinced that this venganza is directly against Nasuh and what happened or didn’t happen surrounding that fire. Dilsah and Mehmet are just an excuse to involve Miran in her plot to destroy Nasuh.

And I’m seriously considering that Ayse and Azize are the same person as well. And if that is true, Hazar could be Nasuh’s and Azize’s son, making Miran Azize’s real grandson. What a twist, Azize unknowingly using her own grandson to kill her own son! Which brings to mind, “if you seek revenge, dig two graves.” Of course, I haven’t figured out why Azize wouldn’t know that Hazar was her son.

I wonder too, does Nasuh know Hanife is Ayse’s sister? Yes, he might know, and it’s another reason he was willing to forgive. But still, why hasn’t he made the Ayse - Azize connection? Plastic surgery from the fire? Yusuf seems to sense something, but he has not spoken up about it.

Fatmagul

Dondi, wowee wow . Thank you for every detail as the drama builds .

Lucio, you so accurately described Fatmagul " shunning " Kerim after she saw him with Vural and misinterpreted what that meeting was about. Now the family has been thrown into a panic with Muka becoming a loose cannon and revealing how she married Rami because she was pregnant by Skeezy Salih and the truth about Murat not being Rami's son. Kerim steps up to help and support Rami and Fatmagul. I was touched by the compassion he showed Rami. When Rami was sitting on the curb crying while Fatmagul took Murat into school, Kerim got out of the car and put his hand on Rami's shoulder and talked to him . When you truly love someone , you love and help the people who are loved by the person you love . Kerim is showing Fatmagul that she can count on him to love and help not only her but her family. Fatmagul's family and Kerim and Meryem are becoming a family .

Meanwhile, Mustafa continues down a slippery slope. This guy is oblivious to the destructive path he is on ever since his cruel, unfeeling treatment of Fatmagul, whom he supposedly loved .

Fatmagul

Thanks, faithful Fatmagul followers. Your insightful comments are greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear you hurt your hand, Darcy. Geçmiş olsun.

Rahmi’s scenes were heartbreaking. Notice how he wasn’t crying so much over losing Muka, but he was really devastated at the possibility of losing Murat. He could have rejected Murat over this revelation. I imagine that other men would want to kill their wives over this deception. Muka was lucky to find Rahmi.

I agree with you, Lucio, Muka wanted “to escape from the life she didn't want”. I doubt Salih would have married her even if she never got pregnant. He just used her for sex. You know, why buy the cow, when the milk is free.

Ha, while Fatma is distracted from her own issues, she is “forgetting” how much she hates Kerim. In the meantime, Fatma is getting to know a “different” Kerim.

Yep, Susanlynn, Mustafa continues his downward spiral. How stupid and hateful is Halide, who blames Fatma for Mustafa’s predicament. If she wants to blame someone, she should blame herself for raising a spoiled a-hole.

dondi356

Fatmagul

Dondi, I collect quotes , and when I watch Kerim , I think of one of my favorite quotes which is by William Wordsworth:

" The best portion of a good man's life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love ."

Kerim treats Rami with respect, acceptance, and kindness. That alone should convince Fatmagul that Kerim is sincere in his regret for his part in what happened to her.

Fatmagul/OT

Susanlynn,'The best portion of a good man's life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love' I love this!!!
