Friendly reminder: PLEASE put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for. (You can shorten the title to one word, i.e., “Rey”.)Discussion pages will be posted on Mondays and Thursdays at 9PM.
Labels: embajador, guero, primetime, rey, unimas, Univision
Well, Gladys and Sofía have a deal, and Gladys is to not entice Mario. Sofía is a bit unsure, and so am I.
This novela continues to delight me, but the coincidences just keep coming one after another, and the chance encounters abound as if CDMX were another Smallville. Amazing.
But it reminds me of another story riddled with coincidences and chance encounters, A Tale of Two Cities, and that's considered a pretty decent story.
And this one is much, much funnier.
Andy
Sorry, I'm a little backed up on the recaps. I'll post Wednesday's as soon as I can. I was surprised that there was an episode last night. I'll try to get that up later tonight.
Dondi, thanks. Looking forward to your recap. The visual was interesting as the evil vs good continues to play out.
La Verdad
Part 1 of 2
1991, Ranch: Vicente sang in the shower before going riding with Alejandro and Rodrigo. He and Alejandro talked about the upcoming film. He had Rodrigo riding in front of him on his horse and started talking about country life and “we are the earth.” A foal was born in the barn. Archival footage of an interview about his film career and the actresses he worked with.
On the set of “Mi Querido Viejo” they shot a hospital scene of an uncomfortable father/son encounter leading to reconciliation. Did the crew realize that Vicente and Alejandro might have been playing out their reality?
2020: Dalia led the three sons in to talk to their father.
1991: After the film wrapped, the entire family gathered around the outdoor fire pit. Vicente decided to retire from films.
2020: Dalia asked why all three sons' marriages failed.
2015: Alejandro sang one of his greatest hits – Tantita Pena – in concert. Vicente wondered whether Alejandro was drunk. He didn't sound it, but he fell backwards on stage. Other musicians picked him up and got him backstage. Vicente and Refugio went backstage and Vicente chewed him out. Both parents brought up family honor and image and the concept of setting an example.
2020: Alejandro reminded his father of the artistic heir statement.
1991: Vicente said he would miss making films, but he was doing this to have more time for Alejandro's career, Alejandra, and Rodrigo. Refugio handed him a statue as though it were an Ariel and made the typical speech.
1995, Ranch: Vicente was teaching Rodrigo how to sing but he lacked the pitch recognition that Alejandro had at the same age. Refugio brought out food and drink. Vicente talked about eventually sending Rodrigo to a music academy. Gerardo brought out some documents he needed to go over with him and took him aside. That was probably a pretext to talk to him about getting a DNA test to learn the truth about whether Rodrigo was actually his son.
2003, Ranch: Rodrigo boasted to Vicente that he was at the top of his class as they looked at the herd of beautiful white horses.
1991: Rodrigo rode a colt in his first traje de charro and sombrero.
2003: Rodrigo told Refugio she was like a second mother to him. She loved him as though he were her own son.
1993: Rodrigo watched Vicente ride. Vicente told him that the ranch was his life along with his music and films. Rodrigo told him that the other kids at school were saying that he isn't really a Fernandez. Vicente told him that he was, then began talking about his childhood when he dreamed of being a singer and owning this property.
La Verdad
Part 2 of 2
2003, Jalisco: Vicente went to see Patricia to get to the truth. She denied that Rodrigo was anyone else's child. He replied that she therefore had nothing to lose by allowing the DNA test. She was looking nervous.
2003, Guadalajara: A doctor came to them to to take the blood samples. Rodrigo was upset while Patricia looked nervous. She went along with this because she had no choice. Rodrigo alternated between looking sad and angry.
2006, Jalisco: Patricia was unconscious in the bathtub. The water was running and the tub overflowing. Vicente forced the door to get in and straddled her body as he tried to get her to open her eyes. She cried about all the usual things and played The Wronged Woman to play on his sense of guilt. [This looked like a fake suicide attempt to me. – Auth.]
2003: The results were delivered. There was a zero percent match. Rodrigo was not Vicente's son and he took it badly. He went into the nearby bathroom and closed the door, but he could hear Vicente and Patricia talking. Vicente was demanding to know why Patricia had done this. She tried pulling the Tyranny of the Weak strategy on him but it did not work. Archival footage of Vicente telling about this in an interview.
Later Vicente went home and told Refugio, showing her the test results. She was upset, as she had come to love Rodrigo. She was also quietly angry at the disruption and conflict Patricia's deception had done to the family.
2020: Dalia brought up the legal quagmire this was causing, which included conflict between Patricia and Rodrigo. Meanwhile Refugio carefully folded Rodrigo's traje de charro and put it into a white box as solemnly as one would prepare the dead for burial. The box was about the size of a child's coffin.
Some bailiffs arrived and served Vicente with a lawsuit. Rodrigo was suing him for $5 million.
Dondi, sorry about the “mis”announcement. Sunday when I developed the page , the guide indicated “Como Dice El Dicho” in “Embajador’s” time slot and it was no where else in the schedule. I’ve corrected the announcement.
BTW No worries about posting late; I watch the episodes 1-2 days later :-)
The doctors did the best they can, Muge tells Guven. Unfortunately, Sedat has lost a lot of blood [but not enough]. He’s in the ICU, in serious condition. It’s important he survives the night. I can’t believe this, Guven says, you see my granddaughter is with this monster (Sancar)? What will happen if he (Sedat) dies? I don’t know what worries me more, my granddaughter or the life of that poor guy, Sedat. Guven is really pouring it on for Muge’s benefit.
Calm down, Muge tells him, don’t think the worst. Maybe Sedat will survive. Be positive. Guven wants Muge to ask if it is possible for him to see Sedat for a moment. I can’t stay here. That man is all alone. Muge agrees.
Yahya is at the courthouse and meets with Halise. She asks, where is your brother? Why didn’t he come to see me? My brother is very busy, Yahya replies, but he is looking in, and always thinking of you. I perfectly know what your brother is thinking about, Halise says, that woman wrapped him up. Look at how she handles this, he doesn’t even think about me. Yahya is uncomfortable.
Kavruk gives a riding lesson to Mavi. He starts by introducing her to Gece. She is a beautiful and obedient mare. She would never hurt anyone. She would never let a rider fall. Mavi tries to mount the horse and gets right back down. She’s scared. I can’t, she says, it’s too high. Sorry, I can’t get a smaller horse, Kavruk replies. This is their size. Mavi realizes she must do this. She talks herself into it… I can do this. It’s for Efem, Kavruk encourages. She gets up and Kavruk leads her around. Ha, she’s holding on to the horse and not the reins.
Muge brings Guven to the ICU window. Guven is so dramatic with his hand to his mouth gesture. Look at what he did to this poor guy. His only fault was to be Mavi’s ex. Muge has a flash of common sense and says, we don’t know what happened. Guven turns to her, you can’t be serious, what more does Sancar have to do for you to see who he really is?
I understand, Muge replies, but I’ve known Sancar since we were little. He’s not the kind of man to do this without a reason. But he stabbed a man, Guven reminds her. What he did was unjustifiable. Please don’t make me empathize with this brutality. I’m not asking that, Muge replies. I just don’t like us to judge or incriminate Sancar before we know exactly what happened.
You have to open your eyes, Guven tells her. If Sancar had even a small reason, he wouldn’t have fled like a criminal. His escape shows what kind of person he is. Please don’t try to defend him. Guven speaks to Sedat from the glass. Fight for your life. Be strong. You’ll make it. You will survive, you will leave here. [I don’t know about you, but I’m lmao] Guven asks for Muge’s opinion. Then he asks her to ask a doctor for any update. She goes.
Guven’s goon comes to the window. Guven drops the act. He tells the goon, finish him off tonight. The goon doesn’t understand. Guven explains, if Sedat dies, Sancar will become guilty of murder. Sedat’s weakness is Mavi. We won’t know what he will do when he wakes up. Mavi can convince him to testify in Sancar’s favor. [Turkish] We will decide our own affairs. The goon gets it now.
Muge returns. What did the doctor say? Will our friend Sedat survive? We don’t get an answer.
Back to the courthouse. Faruk says [Turkish] the DA has sent an arrest warrant. Halise rises from her seat and says, but the man withdrew his complaint. They have reconsidered based on evidence, Faruk tells them. According to what they inform me, there will be a trial open to the public. What do we do now, Yahya asks? We will object, Faruk replies, but it is likely that Halise will stay in prison during the case.
Halise is stunned. She asks Yahya, where is your brother? Answer me, I beg you. They are about to take his mother to prison, and he doesn’t even show up! I already told you my brother was busy, Yahya replies. Halise looks scared.
More riding lessons. We see her making swift progress as Gece goes faster and faster. Finally, Mavi rides around on her own and she’s looking good.
It’s nighttime and Mavi is somewhere. She looks around to see if anyone is watching. She walks the grounds, carrying baskets. Sancar rushes outside… Mavi! They embrace. I tried to look around to see if anyone was following, she says, but it was too dark. I hope no one followed me. Sancar doesn’t seem to care, he’s just happy she’s there.
They go inside. Mavi warms herself by the fire. She asks Sancar if he is okay. He is now. But he worried about leaving her alone. I’m here now, she says, don’t think about that. Everything will be fixed and we will never be separated again. Are you hungry, she asks? Gulsiye and I prepared something. I won’t refuse it, he laughs.
Mavi gives him the news that they arrested Halise. But don’t worry, she tells him, Faruk already requested an injunction. We hope for a resolution. How is her health, Sancar asks? Mavi says she’s okay and Yahya went to see her. Mavi adds, if they don’t free her, I’ll go to see her. She needs to feel support right now, don’t you think? He nods.
Sancar asks about Sedat. He’s critical, Mavi says. She apologizes to Sancar for involving him in all this. Don’t be ridiculous, he replies, this is not your fault. I’m thankful I was with you to protect you. What would that man have done to you? He could have killed you. But he upsets you and Melek, Mavi laments, I can’t be calm. We are a family, Sancar says, don’t carry that burden.
Sancar changes subject. What did you bring? They unload the food. You cooked this, he asks? Your favorites, she replies. Ellerine sağlık, hanım, he says. She tells him, from now on, call me “Efe gelin” (efe’s bride or DIL). How’s that? Efe gelin? Yes, that’s what she wants. He’s pleased. That name fits you wonderfully, he tells her. Kiss. You know, he says, you saved us when my mother and I were away. I’ll never forget it. You don’t have to thank me, she answers, you are my family, too. [Turkish] I thank God for everything you brought me, he tells her. They hug. I love you very much, Mavi says. Sancar returns his love. Kiss.
The nurse at the ICU desk is called away. Guven’s goon lurks and manages to sneak into Sedat’s room. He’s about to deliver a fatal injection, when Sedat wakes up. What are you doing here? The goon says he’s just there to check on him. Guven Bey sent me to personally assure that you’re doing well. Sedat asks if Sancar has been arrested. No, he escaped, but they are looking for him.
Mavi tells Sancar it’s too risky to speak to Melek by phone. She brought a recorder for him to leave a message for his daughter. He starts, my Melek, it’s dad. I miss you very much. Forgive me for not being with you. You don’t know how sorry I am I can’t be with you. I even curse fate because this happened at the moment you expected to be happy. But we will overcome this. This will pass.
Mavi is supporting us. Your dad trusts her a lot, you should also. You will ask, where is your father now. I’ll tell you. I am in the most beautiful place in our homeland. The stars are my blanket and I’m thinking of you. Listen, Mavi and I make you a promise. When this is cleared up, we will go camping. The three of us will be very happy. Remember when I told you about the place by the river? Where my grandfather went? I will take you there, my love. And the three of us will be very happy. That’s all for now, my Melek. Send me a voice message, okay? I love you very much, my Melek.
Dudu is in the cursed bedroom. Yahya enters. She’s hopeful. He tells her, my intention is not to break your heart. I asked you to leave. Why are you still in my house? You didn’t bring me here, she replies, so you can’t throw me out. When Halise Anne returns…. Yahya interrupts, my mother was arrested.
Dudu is shocked. That can’t be possible. Dudu, it’s over, enough, Yahya says, accept it and come back to reality. Don’t worry, I won’t leave you on the streets. I put the house in your name. He shows her the deed. You can go, you have no excuse. We can never be together again. It’s impossible.
You think that’s what’s important to me, she answers back. A house? Your money? You never believed me. You never understood that I really love you, Yahya. And I still love you. I don’t want this house if you aren’t going to be with me! I don’t even need to be in this mansion if you’re not by my side!
Gulsiye and Elvan are in the kitchen talking about the current situation. It seems that Sancar will never be at peace, Elvan says. After all this time, he finally found happiness and look what happened. He’s a good person. I don’t understand why he has to go through this. [Turkish] Lord, please save Sancar Abi. Gulsiye adds her amen, inshallah. It seems like the problems will never end. But do you know what makes me happy, Gulsiye asks? At least you are okay.
Elvan doesn’t respond to that. She asks about Mavi. She can’t imagine how desperate she is. Yes, Gulsiye replies, nevertheless, you should see the way she took control of the house. She is a real Efe DIL. As expected, Elvan says and asks, Mavi went to meet with Sancar, right? Let’s hope so, Gulsiye answers, and that they have thought of a plan. You will see that’s so, Elvan says. Mavi is different than you or me. She’s smart and can’t be fooled that easily.
Don’t talk like that, Gulsiye says. Maybe we didn’t study like her, but you have your own business. You stand on your own. [Turkish] You don’t need anyone to save you. You also have Baristan Bey. Why are you still sad? I don’t understand. Before Elvan can respond, Yahya enters the kitchen.
Gulsiye leaves. Elvan gets up to leave but Yahya asks her if she could sit. I have nothing to talk about with you, she replies, I stayed here but don’t misinterpret it. I wanted to go, but I didn’t think it right that Melek and Gulsiye be alone at this time. Elvan, it’s very important that I speak with you, Yahya tells her. I beg you to sit. Listen to me for a second. That’s all I ask. She sits.
Yahya starts, I understand how you feel and you don’t want to talk to me. If you want, you can go later, but give me the opportunity and hear me out. First, is that you forget what I said in the store. I know I lost control. That’s right, it’s your life and of course, you will live it. I don’t have the right to say a single word after everything I’ve done to you. And I want you to know that I am sorry.
What do you want, Elvan asks? I don’t understand, what are you looking for? Can’t you see? Leave me alone, it’s over. You don’t have to fix this. I’m not asking you for anything, he replies, not even forgiveness. I don’t expect anything. Only that you know I am sorry. You don’t know how much I regret it, and not only what recently happened, Elvan. Also, everything that I did to you in the past. I was always angry with my mother, and I blamed you. [Turkish] Up to now, you never made even one mistake before me, the Lord is my witness.
Elvan responds, this being so… why did you cooperate with her (Halise)? You’re wrong, he tells her, I never cooperated with my mother. It was you who was by her side, remember? You always said that you loved my mother more than me. I always considered you more valuable. [he did?] And if you found out about my problem, you would decide not to stay with me. Elvan gets up from her seat.
That man who was in the store, Yahya asks, is he really your boyfriend? Teary Elvan sighs and nods yes. Can you trust him like you trusted me, Yahya asks? [that’s not much, is it?] I couldn’t trust Dudu and I wasn’t wrong. You don’t know what I’ve been through for months. I just want to make sure the same doesn’t happen to you. If one day you feel like I felt… don’t think you are alone. I am here. Whatever happens, I will be here. Elvan leaves.
Dudu leaves the cursed bedroom, bag in hand. Gulsiye comes up the stairs. Where are you going at this hour? I’m looking for someone that can take me to Ela’s or call a taxi. Gulsiye says what’s the rush, stay to sleep. Go in the morning, that’s better. I can’t take it anymore, Dudu cries, I can’t stay one second more in this mansion.
Everyone in this house considers me a gold digger, Dudu says. Maybe you do, too. My life has always been difficult, and you know I’ve never needed anyone. I worked hard and earned my own money. I hope that Yahya can see how much I love him. Maybe that day… she wipes her tears… he will understand that I truly want to be with him. He is the man I love. I don’t know what to do to show him. I’m desperate, sister. I can’t take it anymore and that’s why I’m going. Dudu cries in Gulsiye’s arms.
Kavruk is working at the stable, when Zehra and Melek come by. Melek calls to him. Ladies, he asks, out for a night walk? Melek says she woke up and neither her father nor Mavi were there. Ah, really, Kavruk replies. Zehra says, maybe they weren’t here, but your aunt is. Isn’t that enough for you? And Zehra starts to tickle her niece. Of course it is, Melek answers, you know I love you very much. But I miss my father very much and no one can replace him. And I thought, if I can’t talk to my dad, I could talk to Gece. What do you think, Kavruk?
Not so fast, Kavruk says, Gece is not here. Where is she? With Mavi. But Mavi doesn’t know how to ride a horse, Melek says. Where could she go? Where are they? I don’t know, Kavruk replies, it’s a mystery. She didn’t tell me exactly where she was going. But you know what I’m sure of? Efe gelin loves you very much. She will do anything for you, to see that beautiful smile. Melek knows. She is like an angel, Melek says. I don’t know when I will be able to talk to dad and I can’t talk with Gece. She turns to Zehra and asks, can we wait for Mavi?
Kavruk says there is a way she can talk to her father. How, she asks, by phone? No, that’s not an option, he says, there’s another way. What do you think Zehra, should I tell her? Sounds good, Zehra replies. It’s with the heart, Kavruk tells Melek, and he points to his.
How is it done, Melek asks? I’ll teach you, come. He calls her to sit with him on a hay bale. Zehra asks if she can join them. Kavruk points upward, you have to look over there. You see the moon? That’s a full moon. Your father is also looking at that moon. And every time he sees the moon shining so brightly, he thinks of you. Now look at it deeply and tell it all you feel in your heart, but it must be silent. That way your father’s heart is going to hear everything you have to say.
Really, Melek asks? Zehra confirms it’s true. We always did that when we were kids. Try it. Melek climbs into Zehra’s lap, Zehra leans on Kavruk, and the three gaze up at the moon.
Song: Beni Verme Ellere/Don’t Take Me to Your Hands – Gülay
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vl8-MGGCIOE
Lyrics: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/beni-verme-ellere-dont-give-me-strangers.html
This translation replaces “hands” with “strangers”, otherwise it seems pretty accurate.
There’s a slight cut at the start of the song. It starts at the hideout house. Sancar is sitting in front of the fireplace, with Mavi sleeping, her head on his lap. He strokes her hair. He gaze at her sleeping, gazes at the fire, deep thought. A totally Turkish dizi scene… lol
Gulsiye walks Dudu out of the mansion gate. Necdet has a car ready to take Dudu. Sisters wave goodbye.
Yahya is sitting outside, drinking and thinking, and Elvan is watches him from the balcony for a while before walking back inside. She’s doing some thinking too.
Psycho Sedat is looking at a pic of Mavi on his phone.
Back to the hideout. Now Sancar and Mavi are on a mattress. His hand on her face wakes her. They kiss and here we go…. [damn you, Turkish censors. I was hoping for an uncut version, oh well]
In the morning, Mavi wakes up alone on the mattress. Sancar? Good morning, sleepyhead, he says from the kitchen area. Look at that big smile he flashes. [Turkish] Seems the fresh air is good for you, yes? She’s smiling, too, as she wraps the blanket tightly around her. Good morning. She heads for the kitchen. I was able to sleep deeply, she says, as if they weren’t chasing us. You give me peace. Hug and a kiss. I want to be with you like this forever, she says.
I realized something, he tells her, no matter what happens, this peace will never leave. It is a part of us. She looks over at the stove. Hmm… what are you cooking? Come, he says, I’ll show you. He’s got the homemade butter, the farm fresh eggs, he cracks a couple into the pan and laughs. [I hate they had to dub Engin’s laugh, it’s so cute] A little salt? Yes. Pepper? Let’s add it after. Yes, that would be better. The eggs cook. Sancar gets the bread. Let try it…
And we are out on a happy note!
Fabulous Urban. Loved "Tyranny of the Weak strategy".
Of course I have no real reason for thinking Patricia wasn't "true" to Vincente other than she seemed rather shady the few times I saw her, but were you suprised?
"She was upset, as she had come to love Rodrigo". Rodrigo can't be blamed for his parentage! Refugio should continue to love him!
So, so well written.
Diana
Dondi, thank you for every detail of this episode .
So...Mavi learned to ride a horse in just one night and then headed for the hills in the dark on Gece. I am suspending my disbelief. How did she know where San was hiding out?
This production is usually so careful about every detail , but I had to laugh at those two baskets that Mavi brought. Lol...you could tell they were empty especially as San grabbed them and slung them over his shoulder .Then , he sat and pulled out many containers of food from the magic baskets !!! Lol
I am fascinated by the buildings featured in the Turkish shows . It looks like San is hiding out in a,small but luxurious cabin . I was confused about what they were sleeping on because when Mavi first arrived , the living room had a coffee table . Then , later they were lying on small mattress . No bedroom ? Is this the family's vacation home in the hills?
Does "efe" mean " boss? "
I am getting a bad feeling that the writers are going to reunite Ya and Elvan. Nope , I don't want that.
Poor Ya goes to see mom , and she immediately asks, " Where's your brother? "
Is Sedat smart enough to realize that he is more valuable to Guv dead than alive ? He certainly perked up quickly from that self indicted knife wound . Crazy dude.
Thanks, Dondi. Fine job.
Sedat seemed to me to realize that Guven's lackey was there to do him harm. Anyway, I hope so. Maybe these two will wind up doing each other in.
Susanlynn, yep Mavi "headed for the hills in the dark on Gece" was a stretch.
Finding Sancar, thankfully, doesn't seem to be a priority for the police. Surely they could look up what properties the Efeoglus own and search them.
Wondering if Mavi will get pregnant at the hideout. If so, how would she explain that she still doesn't know her husband's whereabouts.
Looks like Yahya is on the road to redemption. I'm surprised he's okay with Sancar leaving Mavi in charge.
Niecie, At this point, I think that Ya is trying to be on his best behavior with everyone , except Halise and Dudu. He wants to be in San's good graces so that he can get Elvan back. I am hoping it is too little too late for that. He seems to be trying very hard to give up his asshat ways.
I almost feel sorry for Yaya when he’s with his mother. It’s so obvious she prefers Sancar. Elvan does seem to be contemplating something, hope it’s not taking back her ex. She should be with Bora. I remember her saying she married him because of Halise. Hopefully she now realizes how horrible Halise was to her. She needs to believe what Yaya told her about who’s sterile. I always thought she felt bad about not being able to have children.
I think the household is happier and more relaxed with Halise locked up. The lawyer needs to concentrate on Sancar for now.

Diana: Watched last night's episode. I noticed they reenacted that tragic fall that resulted in Vicente's demise.
Steve Boudreaux
Conflictos y un Fracaso
Part 1 of 2
2006, Jalisco: Vicente gave Patricia holy hell for her manipulation and deception. He was willing to give Rodrigo money for getting his career started. The boy cried and told Vicente he loved him, but no longer called him “Papa.”
2005: Alejandro told Vicente he would not abandon his musical roots and will sing rancheras to the world. That pleased him.
2006: Alejandro and Vicente shot some music videos. Vicente's was very traditional-looking. He wore a splendid traje de charro and looked years younger than his age.
2004: Gerardo told Vicente he had set up his new tour, which Vicente didn't want that many dates in. The subject of Juan Gabriel came up again; Gerardo thought it was an idea worthy of consideration. Alejandro came in talking about doing a film about Emiliano Zapata. Gerardo didn't like the idea of this, saying he could not picture him as Zapata.
Alejandro ran this past V.Jr and they began singing “Cielito Lindo.” Alejandro began practicing Nuahatl. He was a bit nervous about this. As they drank a few tequila shots V.Jr was sure this would be successful.
2005 (?): Vicente met with Raúl Velasco, who was not feeling well. He had had heart and liver surgery and had little energy. They remembered when they were preparing for the last broadcast in 1998. They talked about this. Velasco thanked Vicente for his music and friendship. Vicente hugged him and the program's entire crew entered applauding both of them. Velasco cried at this memory. Vicente thanked him for his help, saying that he would not be where he was without having been on his program. Velasco was sure that this would be the last time they would see each other.
Later Vicente told Refugio about this. Pedro came in and opened the door to Alejandro, dressed and made up to look like Zapata. Both parents were impressed, as the resemblance was well done. Alejandro later appeared on Otro Rollo in costume and makeup (archival footage).
Conflictos y un Fracaso
Part 2 of 2
2020: Dalia asked about failure.
2005 (?): It looked like the film flopped.* Alejandro was upset about this. Refugio gave him a pep talk, not unlike Paula had once done for Vicente. Alejandro got the impression that Gerardo was gloating; Gerardo denied that he took any pleasure in the suffering of others but – at least to this fly on the wall – was not convincing. Alejandro was looking at doing a European tour. Gerardo said that his best song was “Como Quien Pierde una Estrella.” Everyone began singing it.
Alejandro was drinking shots with an older friend in a club when some other customers recognized him. The men in that group said nasty things to him about the film or his acting. However, Alejandro got back at them by leaving the club with the women these men were with. In a limousine with a long sunroof. He was three sheets to the wind when he exited the car and began dancing in the street. There almost was an accident.
2020: Don Vicente tried to stop the interview but had a seizure. His sons put him to bed. He later got up and collapsed on the floor just before Refugio entered the room with a cup of tea. She alled for help. Alejandro and V.Jr ran in. Alejandro immediately called for an ambulance. When it arrived Gerardo yelled at the EMTs as they put his father into the van. Then he drove his family behind the van. Dalia made a call.
2006: Vicente dedicated “Amorcito Corazón” to Refugio in front of a screaming – and mostly female – audience.
2020: Refugio and her children hung around the waiting room. They were frustrated that they could no nothing and there was no news yet. They were eventually told that this could be a cerebral hemorrhage. Refugio cried.
2013: Vicente and Refugio renewed their marriage vows on their fiftieth anniversary. He praised her as a wife and mother to his children. They stepped out of the church to a shower of flower petals.
*This film was directed by Alfonso Arau, the director of Como Agua Para Chocolate, so the likely reason it flopped may be due to the fictionalization of Zapata's life. It was also the most expensive film in Mexico as of its production and probably did not make a profit.
I have not yet seen the film discussed in this episode and have not read anything about Alejandro's performance. That he never did another film is likely a reaction to his need to avoid mistakes. This certainly did not hurt his music career; I've been to several of his concerts and I can tell you that in the internet age tickets sell out on the first day of availability.
Music videos may not be the best test of acting ability, but based on his music videos Alejandro would have been the ultimate romantic lead.
Weekend treats for the ladies:
Como Pierde una Estrella
No lo Beses
Tantita Pena
No Se Olvidar
Tr Olvide
Urban, thanks for the clips. I could listen all day to Como Quien Pierde Una Estrella.
I'm not watching Rey, but I've been impressed by the snippets I've seen of Pablo Montero. Maybe this is his best role so far.
I am still behind with the Thurs and Friday recaps and I am so sorry. I know these eps have a couple of shockers. I was very, very upset when this originally aired. OMG, is right Susanlynn.
I have a busy weekend, but hopefully, I will be caught up tomorrow.
Niecie, it probably is.
It can't be easy to portray someone as famous and as loved as Vicente Fernandez. People have a certain image of their favorite singer/actor/whatever and don't like to have this defiled. This might be one of the reasons there is apparently a curse on US actors who do this too early in their careers.
There have been things in this series that must have hit Pablo in some very sensitive places. Televisa writers seem to love to do that to him. But he gave a great performance and unless you know nada about psychology you don't end up condemning Don Chente for the worst of his faults.
Right now I hope they let him keep the wardrobe.
"Vicente hugged him and the program's entire crew entered applauding both of them. Velasco cried at this memory. Vicente thanked him for his help, saying that he would not be where he was without having been on his program. Velasco was sure that this would be the last time they would see each other" conveyed such strong emotions. Superb Urban.
Pablo Montero seems born to have played Vincente.
As Niecie commented on Como Quien Pierde Una Estrella I watched that first. It is lovely.
Diana
I agree, and it was a good thing that he has had 25 years of acting experience first. I just hope he cleans up his substance issues before that does a number on his good looks. He doesn't look much older than when I last saw him in person in 2006.
Am I imagining this or is Alejandro starting to look like Sir Christopher Lee?
I once had a friend who didn't like Latin music due to the neighborhood she lived in. I did get her to watch "Tantita Pena." She recognized the song because it was a megahit being played in every local store. When it finished I said "Well, do you think he'd make a sexy vampire?"
"Hell, yeah!"
I rest my cae.
Gulsiye and Elvan work in the kitchen. Elvan mind is not on her work. Gulsiye knows something is wrong. She asks, what did Yahya tell you last night? He wanted me to forgive him, Elvan replies. How can he ask that, Gulsiye asks, he just considered this? That’s what he said, Elvan says. Tell me Gulsiye asks, are you going to forgive him? It’s impossible, Elvan answers, if I forgive one, I can’t forgive the other. I don’t even understand what was done to me.
Gulsiye wants an explanation. I know you spoke to Yahya. Who is the other? Elvan says Gulsiye doesn’t have to know everything. You have enough problems, she tells Gulsiye, don’t worry about me, I’ll fix it. Gulsiye says she tells Elvan everything and asks, why don’t you trust me? Elvan says she trusts her. Then tell me, Gulsiye says, what has you confused. Sit down.
Elvan starts, I am mad at Halise Efe even more than Yahya. Gulsiye is surprised, what did she do this time? This isn’t new, Elvan says, she did it over years. What? Elvan drops the bomb, I never had any problem, I can become a mother. What great news, Gulsiye hugs Elvan. There are tears. Gulsiye can’t understand how Halise was capable of this. Did Yahya know, Gulsiye asks. Elvan nods. Gulsiye says if Elvan told her she wouldn’t have insisted she stay at the mansion. Elvan says it didn’t matter, she was going to stay anyway.
Gulsiye asks if Elvan has found a place of her own yet. Not yet but Elvan thinks it will happen soon. You have to, Gulsiye tells her, it’s important you go, hurry and look and don’t come back to this mansion. You say that as if I could forget what happened, Elvan replies. At least you will not see, and you will not hear, Gulsiye says, but you have me. I hear and see everything that happens here, and I still haven’t digested what they did to Dudu!
I knew you’d get mad, Elvan says. Why did you make me talk? Gulsiye joins the revolution—I don’t plan on staying here any longer! She asks,[Turkish] when you find a house, can you take me with you? Elvan replies, this is your nest. Gulsiye thinks it’s time for her to leave the nest. In these four walls, not being able to fly, we will get stuck. I also want to try. I won’t be a burden, she tells Elvan, I will work and earn my own money. It’s enough that you are by my side.
Elvan smiles, please, you would never be a burden and she agrees, that’s how it’s going to be. We will leave after Sancar Abi’s situation is resolved and rent a place. We will run our own store, and be independent, earn our own money. Do you think we could, Gulsiye asks, I’ll work day and night. I worked here many years so it would be no different. From now on we work for ourselves. Elvan says it’s a deal.
Elvan gets up from the table. Stay for breakfast, Gulsiye says. I’ve got issues to solve, Elvan replies. Gulsiye understands. Don’t let anyone mess with you. Soon we will follow our own path. Big hug.
Mavi gets ready to leave the hideout. She tells Sancar she’s meeting with Faruk. I hope they found something in the recordings. What will happen if they don’t, Sancar asks? If there are no recordings, don’t worry, she replies, I will find a way.
Mavi, promise me something, Sancar says, promise that to save me you will not do what that bastard asks of you. I swear I would rather turn myself in. I promise, she answers and seals it with a kiss. [let’s see if Mavi does a Nare and disregards Sancar] How can I leave you here, she says. You are brave, he tells her, just don’t look back. I want you with me, she tells him.
Sancar says, if you leave your mind and your heart here, you won’t be able to stand it. Go, and try to reveal everything. Don’t worry about me. I have a beautiful view, I breathe fresh air, I can relax. I have you in my heart, Mavi. Don’t worry about me. She hugs him. You are my everything. They love each other very much. But it’s time to go.
Guven comes to the hospital for an update. Sedat is doing well and has been transferred to a private room. Guven is pissed his goon couldn’t get the job done. We can’t do anything now, he says, it would raise attention. I hope he didn’t see what you were trying to do. The goon looks guilty. Don’t tell me he saw you, Guven asks? The goon doesn’t think so. Sedat woke up but he was a bit out of it, he says. I hope he doesn’t suspect, Guven replies, and he sends the goon to watch over the Efeoglu mansion instead.
Guven visits Sedat and wishes him a speedy recovery. You scared us yesterday. From what I see, you look better. Sedat gives a slight nod. He asks if Sancar has been caught. Not yet, Guven replies, we don’t know where he’s hiding, but they will catch him sooner or later. And Mavi, Sedat asks, what is she doing while Sancar’s not around? Are you watching her? She’s replaced Sancar at the mansion, Guven says, Halise was sent to prison, so she took the opportunity. Sedat’s not happy.
Guven quietly asks how it happened. I imagine this was your plan B, he says. Sedat says nothing, looks he’s stuck on what Mavi is doing. Guven fishes for an answer. Tell me, was the weapon yours or Sancar’s? Answer me. Sedat answers, one of your men was here last night, he was by the IV. We wanted to make sure you were ok, Guven replies, you’re my most valuable ally. I have to look out for you. Don’t worry about my safety, Sedat says, I can take care of myself. No one can hurt me, better that you save your energy to help the police find Sancar.
No problem, Guven says, I’m doing the best I can. I’ll call one of my men, maybe they have some news. He calls the guy watching the mansion. He reports that Mavi just arrived at the mansion on horseback. How’s that, Guven asks, no on saw when she left? He understands, she must have left during the night. And she apparently went to see Sancar. Guven gives the order to follow everyone in the mansion, especially that lunatic Kavruk and Mavi. If one of them gets away again, you will have serious problems. You can’t do anything, he admonishes and hangs up.
That’s what I refer to, Sedat tells Guven, it’s better you are busy with them instead of my safety. Perhaps Sancar would have already been captured. They will see each other again, Guven says, don’t worry, Sancar won’t get away with it. In a matter of time, we will send him to prison if we work together.
Kavruk is at the stable when Mavi returns. How is Sancar? He’s fine. And you, Kavruk asks? I’m not okay, Mavi replies, I don’t feel fine leaving Sancar alone. Kavruk says Faruk is at the mansion. Mavi says she will go to see Melek first.
Mavi goes to Melek’s room. First thing, Melek asks if Mavi saw her father. How is he? If you want, he will tell you himself, Mavi answers. She plays the recording. Melek asks, do you think you can help me, do you know how to record my voice? I’m going to press this button, Mavi says, and then you can start to talk. Melek records: [Turkish] Dad, last night I saw the moon and I prayed. I spoke to you in my mind. Don’t worry, Mavi is taking good care of me. I know we are a family, and we will be reunited very soon. I can’t live without you, dad. I love you very much, she says and leaves a kiss. [this girl is such a fine actress!]
Halise is taken from her cell to the visiting room. Elvan has come. Halise happily rushes over to greet her, but Elvan puts her hand up to keep her away. Halise is surprised and asks, why the attitude? It’s better you answer me, Elvan replies. I’m not your DIL, we are nothing. Halise realizes that Yahya told her.
Elvan looks sad and disappointed. You know what I wondered the most? How could you stay silent? How could you keep quiet? Did it hurt you each time I called you mother? Or was your lie so big that you believed I couldn’t become a mother?
Halise offers a crappy defense. [Turkish] You know what a sterile man is called in our area and what becomes of his reputation. When a woman is sterile, no one says anything. But when it’s a man, especially if he’s an Efeoglu, he will become the object of gossip. Are you angry with me, as if you do not know our land, kızım?
I am not angry with you, Elvan sadly says, I’m mad at myself because I watched for many years what a wicked and heartless woman you are. I knew everything you did to everyone, and I don’t know how I could remain silent. I was a witness. That’s why I’m angry.
And if we needed more proof of Halise’s wickedness, she tells Elvan, you were silent because as an orphan, without relatives and a home, you were in the best place you could be. You had no place to go. Why don’t you accept it? You know you wouldn’t have left even if you knew. You would have stayed with the pain. That’s why I preferred not to tell you anything. You were always loved, you know I saw you as a daughter. Don’t be mad at me for this simple reason.
You thought I wouldn’t leave, Elvan asks? You were wrong. I would have found a way to survive. If you would have acted differently, I would have stayed. But you were never honest with me. [Turkish] I would have resigned myself to the fact that I would not have had children and I would have made you and Yahya the crown on my head. But you took that right away from me. And you projected all your fears and insecurities on Yahya. How sad. For this Halise Hanım, I came to tell you it’s over. From now on, neither you to my funeral, nor I to yours. [that’s serious. Remember Halise said that to Refika once upon a time]
Halise gasps as Elvan gets up to leave. Halise asks, are you and Yahya back together, is that why you take advantage of the situation I’m in and you came to judge me? He asked me to reconcile, Elvan replies, but I refused. Because I am in love with another man. Halise is stunned. Elvan leaves. [yes! yes! yes!]
Mavi meets with Yahya and Faruk. She asks if there were any recordings. I’m afraid not, Faruk replies. There are some but unfortunately, they aren’t clear, Yahya adds, they are useless. He slipped the knife so quickly into my brother’s hand, all you see is when he falls to the ground. Faruk says that Sedat woke up and the police are going to take his statement.
He will lie, Yahya says, only to cause us problems, I know he’s going to try to blame my brother. It wasn’t a good idea that my brother ran, damn it, now our hands are tied! He can’t do that, Mavi says. What did you say, Yahya asks? He can’t do anything, Mavi replies, Sedat will tell the truth. Yahya says that’s ridiculous, why would Sedat tell the truth? Mavi says he won’t have any option but to confess.
Cops come to take Sedat’s statement. The cops will come back if Sedat is not up to it, but Guven assures them Sedat wants to be done with this asap. He asks if there are any clues about Sancar’s whereabouts. He mentions Mavi going somewhere on horseback. You know better than I, he tells the cop, but I heard that there are places out in nature perfect for hiding. The cop says they are looking, and they will find Sancar very soon.
The cops come in the room and Sedat plays it up. He says he doesn’t feel well enough to give his statement at this time. Guven tries to talk him into it. There are witnesses. It’s clear Sancar stabbed you. The cop says it shouldn’t take long. They just have a few questions. You can give a detailed statement later, he tells Sedat. Sedat sticks to his act. I’ll give my statement when I’m feeling better. I’m a lawyer. You don’t have to come here again, I’ll come to the station when I’m discharged. Let me rest now if you would be so kind. The cops agree.
Guven walks the cops out and tells them that Sedat is scared to testify against Sancar. I understand that Sancar threatened him and asked him to leave. He didn’t do it, so he stabbed him. Anyone would be scared. The cop says they will provide Sedat with protection if necessary. Guven thanks the cops and they leave.
Guven makes a call to his goon, Nihat. I was right, he says, Sedat did not want to make a statement against Sancar. He’s stalling for time, he won’t say that Sancar did it. He probably wants to blackmail Mavi to make her leave Sancar. That doesn’t change anything, Nihat says. There were plenty of witnesses.
If Sedat says Sancar did it, Guven says, he won’t be able to change his statement later. He would be guilty of giving a false statement. This bastard prepared everything thinking of this moment. All of this was planned. If Mavi decides to accept his conditions, he will say Sancar didn’t do it. He’s keeping his options open.
What do we do now, Nihat asks? We have to find Sancar asap, Guven replies. We can’t let Mavi decide. We have to find him before Mavi contacts Sedat. Nihat says Mavi and Kavruk are in the mansion. They are meeting with the lawyer. Guven wants to make sure they have enough men to follow everyone. He tells Nihat if someone leaves on horseback, follow them.
Yahya asks Faruk about Halise’s case. We filed for a conditional release, Faruk says, I prepared medical reports. I think she will be released under court control.
Elvan shows up at Bora’s café. Where have you been, he asks? I was worried. He heard about Sancar stabbing a man. It’s not what it seems, Elvan replies, it was Sedat who planned this to blame him. That madman stabbed himself and said it was Sancar. No doubt, Bora says, he seemed like a psycho. I couldn’t get in touch with Mavi either, he says. She’s okay, Elvan tells him. She’s doing everything possible to clean Sancar’s name. She didn’t come back to the mansion last night.
How do you know this, Bora asks, did someone tell you? You were going to stay with your friend. Elvan says she stayed at the mansion because of Gulsiye. Was Yahya there, too, he asks? It seems to me that was an uncomfortable situation. It seems a little ridiculous. Elvan smiles at him. Are you jealous because we are a couple now? Not really, he says, I want the best for you. You shouldn’t stay there. I don’t think it’s wise. I want to take care of you, that’s why I told you that. It’s ridiculous that you continue to stay in that house.
He gets up to make coffee. Yes, it’s for my good, not because you are jealous, Elvan calls out. Hey, you’re thinking out loud, he says, I can hear you. I’m not trying to hide it, you are jealous, Elvan says. It’s my weakness, Bora tells her, you stabbed me. I’m hurt.
Dudu is with Ela. She’s been looking for a job. You’re giving up, Ela asks? You’re wrong, Dudu replies, I’m not giving up Yahya so easily. Ela asks, then why are you looking for work? If you reconcile you won’t have to work. It’s just for that reason, I’m looking for work, Dudu explains. I don’t want Yahya or anyone thinking that I’m only with him because of his money. Ela opines, according to them, anyone with less money is after their mansion. They think that’s normal.
Tell me who doesn’t want a house and money, Dudu asks. We all want to live comfortably, but my intentions are misinterpreted. This wasn’t the only reason I was with Yahya. I loved him, I thought that I wouldn’t have to go on alone. I could face problems with him at my side. I miss him a lot. You fell madly in love with him, Ela says, be very careful, love makes you do crazy things.
Dudu says this isn’t a crazy thing. I know Yahya loves me, but he’s confused now. He has suspicions. I understand that. Everyone had an opinion about us. But I know he’s going to remember how much he loved me, I trust him. Inshallah, Ela replies, and if you’re serious about work, my boss is looking for a marketing manager. You’re the best candidate. You even speak English. If you want I’ll call the secretary and make an appointment. Dudu is excited and grateful to Ela.
Mavi and Kavruk meet at the stable. She gives him the recording Melek made for her father. Do you think you can bring it? You want me to bring it now, he asks? Yes, make sure no one follows you. Kavruk senses something and asks Mavi if she’s okay. She nods.
Halise is brought to the visitor’s room again. She’s disappointed it’s only Faruk. My children have forgotten about their mother, she laments, no one comes to see me even though they know where this is. Don’t say that, Faruk replies, Sancar is going through a problem. What happened to my son, she asks? You’ll find out when you are free, Faruk tells her, I came to take you. Is the case over, Halise asks? No, it will continue but you are released under court control. Halise is thrilled.
Kavruk takes Gece and walks her out of the gate. He tells the guard to take good care of the mansion. Nihat reports this to Guven and says he will follow. Guven tells him to make sure to take lots of pics. We will send that crazy Kavruk to prison for aiding and abetting. Guven shares this news with Sedat. This will be resolved by tonight, Guven says with glee. Sedat doesn’t look very happy.
Elvan is still at the café. She drops a bomb on Bora. I’m not sterile. Bora doesn’t understand. Elvan explains that some time ago, they told me I wouldn’t be able to be a mother, but that’s not true. Halise Efe lied to me. I went to the prison to see her. [Turkish] I told her I’m walking away from her now. I told her everything that was inside of me, looking her straight in the eyes. I even told her about our love.
So you can have children, Bora says. Yep. She ruined my life to save the dignity of her son, Elvan says. I never fell in love with Yahya, I’m not going to lie, but I loved Halise like a mother. I considered her the mother I never had. How could she lie about something so important for me, Elvan cries?
Don’t cry, Bora says, don’t be sad. I understand this is serious, she went too far. He realizes that the other day in the van, they didn’t use protection. I don’t know, he says, maybe you are…. That’s impossible, she replies. Why not, he asks? That can’t happen on the first time, she says, or what do you think? He shrugs. [I’d say go ask Sancar about that] This can’t be possible, Elvan says, I can’t be pregnant.
And on that note, we are out!
Dear Dondi, I don't know how you jeep turning out these things excellent detailed recaps never missing a beat .( I especially like your parenthetical asides. )
It is hard watching these characters who have already suffered so many traumas have Sedat and Guven determined to pull them apart and put San in jail so that Guv can take Melek and Sedat is determined to get Jack back under his crazy control. Melek has lived her whole life with trouble and trauma.
The writers have given Guliyse a much bigger role in this story. She is the link to the audience and also the link between the characters as they move in and out...and out and into that mansion . I am surprised that as her role and Kavruk's role increase, Zehra's role has diminished .
Mavi now has a kind of vacant look in her eyes. She seems to have a plan in mind and always seems very sure of herself . However, how do you deal with crazy and evil ? Sedat is irrational and delusional , so I don't see how Mavi will escape him and protect San and Melek.
So....the van WAS indeed rocking even though we were unsure if Elvan and Bora were just sleeping together ...or..."sleeping together" (euphemism).
Thank you Dondi for your always amazing recaps!!
Why was I surprised Guven was willing to resort to murder? I shouldn't have been surprised but I was...kind of wish he had succeeded but then I guess there is a lot they can do with Sadat's crazy!!
I wonder what Mavi's plan is??? You make an excellent point comparing her with Name, I really hope she doesn't break her promise to Sancar. Maybe she has some sort of ace up her sleeve? Some sort of hidden evidence of something she can blackmail Sedat with? Or pull the good old fashioned recording the conversation when he inevitably tries to blackmail her into leaving Sancar.
I can't wait to see the Halise/Elvan scene when I get a working media device! Lol I have had the phone in rice for days and I think it might live!!! :)
Darcy ..so sorry about your phone . Does the rice remedy work ?
Things are unfolding pretty fast as the wicked continue to plague the lovers . I have no idea what the be writers are going to take the storyline as the good characters attempt to hold on to their happiness against the interference of the villains . Meanwhile, I hope we get some rays of good peppered in with the bad .
Well, I am off to the movies to see a different story play out on screen.
Guven asks Sedat, how many years do you think Sancar will get? That’s really not important, Sedat replies, we know that when he’s locked up, you’re going to make sure he won’t survive. Guven gives a little wink, exactly.
Sedat gets a surprise visitor, Mavi. I knew you would come, he says, all smiles. How dare you come here, Guven tells her. Sedat stops smiling. Guven continues, wasn’t it enough what you did to this poor man? I’m here because we have to talk, Mavi says to Sedat, but we can’t with this thing (Guven) present. And besides, you came to insult me, Guven notes. Being with Sancar has made you a very bad person. I’m not going anywhere. If you think I’m going to leave you alone with Sedat, you’re mistaken. As you like, Mavi says and turns to leave.
No, no, wait, Sedat calls out. He tells Guven to leave them alone. What’s wrong, Sedat, Guven asks. We are about to end this problem. This woman will trick you, don’t fall for it. Leave now, Sedat orders. Don’t be stupid, Guven replies, this woman only came to trick you. I told you to leave, Sedat hisses. Guven has no choice but to leave the room. He’s pissed, thinking his plans will be ruined.
Mavi asks Sedat, what do you want to leave Sancar alone? He laughs. I’m not the one who’s after him, It’s the police. You know exactly what I’m talking about, Mavi replies. What do you want in exchange for cleaning Sancar’s name? I’ll do what you ask.
Sedat sits at the edge of his bed and gets closer to Mavi. He sniffs her hair. You changed your shampoo, right? I didn’t come here to play games, she says, if we’re not going to talk, it’s better I go. First answer my question, Sedat says, because if you don’t, this negotiation ends now. Sancar will go to prison, and he won’t survive there. This will be done in the way I say. I stopped using shampoo, she answers, I like washing my hair with olive oil soap. See, it’s easy to talk to me, Sedat says. I answered your question, Mavi says, now it’s your turn.
Okay, Sedat tells her, I can save Sancar with my statement. I could tell the police that the knife was mine and I accidentally hurt myself when I was fighting with him, and I think they should let him go. But we already know that’s what really happened, Mavi replies. I am only asking that you tell the truth, Sedat, and I’ll do what you ask.
Isn’t it obvious what I want, he tells her. You’re going to give up Sancar and I’ll stop bothering him. But don’t think that this will end so easily. It doesn’t mean I will give a statement that will save him. I’m sorry Mavi. He gets back under the covers in bed. Do you want me to go with you, she asks? We could go to Istanbul, just you and me. [Turkish] We could try again. I’ll do it because I don’t want innocent people to suffer because of me. Can you be fair just this one time? He looks surprised by this offer.
Dudu is on her job interview. Ela is also present and she thanks Varol Bey for accepting to meet. I don’t say this because Dudu is my friend. She is a hard working woman. If you give her an opportunity, you won’t regret it. Varol notes that Dudu’s resume says she worked in a hotel, in guest services and later at a marina in Bodrum. That was your last job. Yes, Dudu says, I also had management training. And I speak English, German and Italian.
Varol looks through the resume. Dudu Candar… I’m trying to remember…. He asks the ladies to give him a little time. They leave the room. Dudu is disheartened. He recognized me, she says, I thought about not mentioning the marina, but then he would have asked me what I did for the past year. There are 500 people at the marina, Ela says, how could he recognize you? Your last name isn’t the same. Don’t imagine things.
Dudu worries, what if he talks to Yahya and he says he doesn’t want me to work? Ela thinks that would be a good thing. If he doesn’t want you to work, do you know what that means? Dudu realizes it could mean he still cares and he wants to protect her. Exactly, Ela says, I hope your fear comes true. Dudu smiles.
Varol calls Yahya, who is pacing outside the mansion gate. He tells him that Dudu is there on a job interview. I didn’t know who she was at first, then I was surprised, he says. I hesitated to call you, I didn’t want to bother you, but I didn’t want to make a decision without consulting you. Are you aware of this situation? Yahya says he didn’t know about this, but Dudu is a good employee. She is a hard worker. If you are asking my opinion, I would hire her.
As you say, Varol replies, in that case, I’ll start the process. You don’t understand what I’m telling you, Yahya says, you should make your own decision. Whether or not you decide to hire her, is none of my business. It has nothing to do with me. Varol doesn’t understand. Isn’t she your… Yahya tells Varol that he has no relationship with Dudu. What she does or doesn’t do is no concern of mine, he says. Let everyone know that, is that clear? Varol understands.
Halise arrives home. Necdet opens her car door. Only Yahya is there to welcome her. This is how the lady of the house is welcomed, she asks? Honestly, I didn’t expect a celebration, but at least you could have come to the prison for me. Hoş geldin, anne (welcome, mother), Yahya says, I hope you forgive us. My brother is not here, the girls are inside cooking. Let’s go.
Back to the job interview. Varol tells Dudu he can’t hire her and he thanks her for coming. She asks if he spoke with Yahya. Excuse me, Varol replies. You can be honest with me, Dudu says. What did he say? He doesn’t want me to work? Varol looks uncomfortable. I can guess what he said when you called. He cares about me, but I really want this job. I think I’m a good candidate.
It’s not what you think, Varol, replies, but Yahya Bey said he doesn’t have a relationship with you and it was better he wasn’t involved in this. If you excuse me, I have already given you much of my time. I’ve got pending business to settle. Are you scared, Dudu asks?
No, why should I be afraid, he responds, he has nothing to do with you. Then why won’t you hire me, Dudu asks? My resume is much better than the job description. Besides, I have experience. Verol says, If you want to hear it, I’ll tell you. I hope you understand. The clothes you wear cost much more than our employees’ salaries. After having been with Yahya Bey, I’m sure you are accustomed to luxury. If you accept this job for little money, the next day you will complain it’s not enough.
You already said there is no relationship, Dudu said, Yahya told you himself. Please, I really want this job. I’m just asking for a chance. The decision has been made, Varol tells her. He asks Ela to accompany her friend to the door and come to see him afterward.
Slight cut: Gulsiye serves dinner to Halise, Yahya and Zehra. Halise comments that it would have been better if she didn’t come back at all. [that’s what I said] Why do you say that, Zehra asks. You all have drooping faces, Halise replies. I asked you to bring my granddaughter and you didn’t. Zehra explains that Melek will finish her lessons in a half hour and then she will join them. What lessons, Halise asks, are they more important? Mavi organized this, Zehra replies, let’s not interfere. Halise makes a sour face.
Halise tastes the soup and asks Gulsiye, you didn’t put garlic in the soup? It’s bland. I didn’t put it in, Gusiye answers, Mavi said it wasn’t good for Melek, so I didn’t add it. Halise slams her spoon on the table. Enough! Mavi doesn’t want this, Mavi isn’t pleased. Now we have to do everything she says?! Don’t you forget who the lady of this mansion is! This is what Sancar asked, Yahya tells her, we are only following his orders.
Ah, yes, Halise scoffs, and where is he? Is he in the mansion? No, Yahya admits, I didn’t tell you so you wouldn’t worry. My brother has a problem. He’s trying to clean his name. Halise gasps, what trouble did he get into? Was it that woman’s fault? I knew it! She dragged my son into her disputes. What happened? We don’t hear Yahya’s answer.
We go to Sancar’s hideout. He’s sleeping sitting up on the sofa and is awakened by the sound of an approaching horse. He goes outside. Who is there? Efem, it’s me, Kavruk replies. What are you doing here, Sancar asks? [Turkish] I thought, Efem and I haven’t had sand coffee for a long time. I decided to bring coffee and I suppose you have a fire here. Of course, come here. Sancar hugs Kavruk and says, let’s go in.
Wait, Kavruk says, I brought this. It’s the recorder. Is that from my Melek, Sancar asks. Yes, Mavi recorded her, Kavruk says, Melek sent you a special message. You don’t know how I longed to hear her sweet voice, Sancar smiles, thank you very much.
Sancar plays the recording but it’s not Melek, it’s Mavi: Sancar, I know you will be angry with me. But unfortunately I had no other option to save you. I’m sorry I couldn’t keep the promise I made to you. [Turkish] even if I have to lose you, I must face Sedat. I cannot allow you to be responsible for a crime you did not commit, because of me. I can’t do this to your daughter.
We see Mavi and Sedat driving. I know you didn’t choose to come, Sedat says, but I believe you will be happy with your decision. I don’t care what you think, she replies. The only thing I care about is that a father and his daughter are reunited today. So you used me to reunite Sancar with his daughter, Sedat answers. Perfect. But I want a child, too. That will be your payment. We can’t bring Ekim back, but you can give me another child. Mavi is alarmed.
She suddenly realizes that they are not headed to the police station. You promised me! You said we would go to clear Sancar’s name. You promised me that you would tell the truth to the police! You promised! Do you think I’m stupid or what, he replies, don’t you think I know my wife? If we go directly to the police and I confess everything, say that Sancar is innocent and I stabbed myself, will you guarantee that you will come with me? No. I won’t go to confess. What will Mavi do now?
No, Mavi, what have you done, Sancar asks his absent wife. Kavruk says she fooled him, too. I didn’t imagine this at all. I had no idea she was going to do this. We see Guven’s guy, Nihat peeking over a wall. He starts recording.
Sancar panics. I have to go, I must look for Mavi! Kavruk grabs at him, no, Sancar, you can’t go to Mavi, they will catch you! Sancar spots Nihat, who quickly takes off. Who is there, Sancar shouts?! What’s wrong, Kavruk asks. One of Guven’s men, Sancar replies. And the chase is on.
Sedat tells Mavi, the only place where you can abandon me now is in the grave. This is over, she laughs, accept it, you lost. This is not over, he says, it’s just beginning. I don’t care what happens with Sancar, but now I will decide what happens with you. Sedat starts driving dangerously, speeding and passing cars. Mavi is frightened and she shouts at him to stop the car. She gets hysterical.
I hate what comes next...
Stop! Stop! Sancar shouts at Nihat. I’m not going to hurt you, wait! Nihat stops, turns and draws his gun. Stay away, Nihat orders. Sancar puts his hands up, okay, calm down. Look, I promise I’m not going to hurt you. Please lower the gun, calm down. Don’t come closer or I’ll shoot, Nihat replies. Okay, I won’t come closer, Sancar says, I’ll stay here.
Sancar makes his case. Sedat is a psycho. My wife is with him. Please I need to save her. [Turkish] This is my only concern, kardeş. If you help me, I will not remain in debt. Don’t you have a wife, children, or sisters? Anyone you love? Don’t you know what kind of people Guven and Sedat are? They won’t let me live, Nihat replies. I’ll protect you, Sancar promises. All I want is to save my wife.
Nihat still has the gun on Sancar. Sancar continues, I’m telling you it’s my wife, a piece of my soul. Don’t you have a conscience, kardeş? If you even have an ounce of conscience, you will help me. Put the gun down and we will talk. Hadi… put the gun down. Sancar nods at Nihat. Nihat starts to consider. Put it down, Sancar asks, hadi…. and he takes some small steps towards Nihat.
Nihat lowers the gun just as Kavruk comes running up to the scene. Nihat turns and fires, hitting Kavruk! Time stops for a moment. Kavruk stands there in shock and so does Sancar. Even Nihat looks surprised at what he’s done. Kavruk falls to the ground. Kavruk… Sancar shouts at Nihat, what the hell have you done!!
Sancar forgets all about Nihat and runs down the hill. Kavruk, kardeşim…. I’m coming. He reaches Kavruk and lifts his head. Press on the wound. Hold on, it will be alright.
Back to the other disaster. Mavi’s got a demonic look on her face. She laughs. Sedat is wondering what’s going on with her. Why are you laughing?! No way are you going to win, Sedat, she replies, you no longer have the opportunity to win. You lost. She continues to laugh. I have everything I need to clear Sancar. You won’t win.
Who is going to save you now, Sedat fires back. I have a perfect place for you, where no one will hear you shout. No one will be able to find you. In the end, you will only be mine. You’re mine!
I won’t let you trap me again, Mavi replies, no more. I prefer death a thousand times to being your prisoner. She unfastens his seat belt and grabs the steering wheel. No! No! Sedat shouts. You’re going to kill us! Don’t do this! We’re going to die! Mavi screams as they head for a tree.
This is a horrible scene…. I’ll give it to you from the Turkish.
Kavruk struggles to speak, Efem, hakkını helal et. No, I will not give helal to you, Sancar replies, I’ll take you, come on, get up. Kavruk says, it’s over for me. Don’t waste your energy on me. Mavi is with that person. Leave me. No, Kavruk, Sancar is adamant, I’ll take you, come on. He tries to lift him. Kavruk resists. Efem… tell Zehra that Kavruk did not love anyone else but her. And that he said her name with his last breath. Sancar panics, Kavruk… Kavruk pronounces, Zehra… Zehra… and he closes his eyes.
Sancar pleads, Kavruk, open your eyes. Come on… open your eyes… Kavruk lies still on the ground. Sancar shouts, Kavruk! And he scoops his kardeş up in his arms. Kavruk! Kardeşim! He cries and holds Kavruk tightly. Kavruk! Kardeşim! Open your eyes! He looks for a reaction. Nothing. Sancar tightly hugs Kavruk again and continues to shout for his brother. Kavruk! Open your eyes! Nothing.
Sancar cries and holds on to Kavruk. We hear Kavruk’s voice over the scene as the camera pulls out overhead:
We are all just travelers in this world. Every life in this world will end. But not everyone is destined to love and be loved. I don't want people to cry for me. May my Efe not grieve for me.
And there is such a flame of love in me that will follow me until the Day of Judgment.
Ah, the star in my sky (Zehra)! Our destiny was not to live out our love to the end. But our love was so beautiful, and our legend will become a parable on the lips.
We didn’t just grow up next to each other. We shed tears together, laughed happily, dreamed, hoped and believed in love and brotherhood.
My Efe, my brother, My Efe, my best friend, My Efe, my family.
[Pause for recapper to get a tissue…]
Fade to another terrible scene…. A car accident. We see Mavi’s “E” necklace on the ground and Mavi and Sedat are both unconscious in the car. [this was the end of Turkish ep 46! Can you imagine?!]
From there we go to a disconsolate Sancar standing at a grave on which he places a big bouquet of flowers.
Now we go back to one week before. A car pulls up to the hospital. Sancar jumps out of the passenger seat. He shouts at the driver, Sadik, faster! He shouts to a nurse outside, a stretcher! Hurry! He opens the hatch of the car and it’s Kavruk! Sadik tells Sancar he should leave, he will take Kavruk, or else he police will arrest him.
Sancar totally ignores that and tells unconscious Kavruk they are at the hospital, hold on. The nurse comes out to the car and checks Kavruk. Sancar tells her he’s lost a lot of blood. The nurse says Kavruk’s puls is weak, they must get him inside quickly.
Kavruk is wheeled into the ER. Will he survive, Sancar asks as he watches from the doorway. A doctor asks if the police were called. Sancar just wants an answer to his question, will Kavruk survive? [Turkish] A nurse says there is no pulse and he’s not breathing. They start CPR. Sancar shouts at them to save his brother. He whispers to Kavruk, hold on... They stabilize Kavruk and bring him to the operating room.
Sancar comes outside. Sadik tells Sancar the police are coming, he should leave. [Turkish] The rest is entrusted to Allah and to the doctors. I’m not going anywhere, Sancar replies, the only way I’m leaving this hospital is with Kavruk. He asks to use Sadik’s phone.
Sancar calls Zehra who is out in the yard with Melek. Zehra…. Brother? I have very bad news, he tells her. What happened, Zehra worries, why are you calling me? Did something happen to Kavruk? Sancar can’t answer. Zehra demands an answer. Don’t keep quiet! Answer me! What happened?! Sancar finally finds his voice, Kavruk was shot. He’s in surgery now. I’m at the hospital. I’m waiting. But Kavruk will be alright, I know. He’s stubborn, he won’t give up easily. He will be okay.
The call is interrupted by Sedat shouting. Quickly! Why are you taking so long?! She could die! Sancar looks over and there is Sedat standing by an ambulance. Mavi is inside. Sancar heads over as Sedat continues to shout. You have to save her! Take her inside!
Sancar sees Mavi on the stretcher. Mavi? Sancar and Sedat look at each other. Sancar shouts, what did you do to her?! What happened? The EMT says, she hit her head. Sancar shouts again at Sedat, what did you do to her?! We were going back to Istanbul, Sedat replies. Sancar grabs him and pins him against the ambulance, she will never go to Istanbul with you, do you hear me?! Of course she will come with me, Sedat replies, after she is treated, I’m taking her with me.
Sancar is furious, who do you think you are to take my wife?! Mavi chose me, Sedat says, accept it! Sancar threatens to kill Sedat. I swear I will kill you! Then he remembers Mavi and rushes to her side. Mavi? You’re going to be okay. The EMT tells him to back off and let them bring her inside.
Cops show up. Sancar Efeoglu… you are under arrest. A couple of cops grab Sancar. I’m not going anywhere as long as this psycho is here, Sancar shouts. Sancar is warned not to cause a problem. I’m not looking to cause problems, he replies. This man (pointing to Sedat) tried to kill my wife. You saw officer, Sedat says, he tried to strangle me and besides he wants to blame me for something I didn’t even do.
Sancar tries to make a case. You know me well, officer. I give you my word. I’ll only go if you send officers to stay with my wife. Nothing will happen in the hospital, the officer assures Sancar. He gives the order to take Sancar. Sancar warns, if something happens, you will be responsible! Send the officers, please! The officer agrees and they lead the distraught Sancar away.
Gulsiye and Melek are in Zehra’s room. Gulsiye is packing a bag. Melek wants to know why Gulsiye is packing and why she can’t go downstairs. It’s nothing, Gulsiye says, your aunt has to go someplace and I am preparing a bag for her. Is she going now, Melek asks, why? What happened? Everything is ok, Gulsiye lies, don’t worry. I’ll give this and come right back.
Zehra sobs as she puts on her coat. Halise asks her to calm down. Your brother will go to the hospital. Don’t you understand what happened, Zehra replies. Kavruk is in bad shape. I’m not going to leave him alone, mother. If you want, Yayha tells her, you can stay home with Melek. I’ll go to the hospital and keep you informed. You, too, Yahya, Zehra asks, would you be able to stay calm if something bad happened to your loved one? Don’t ask me to stay here because I’m not going to do it. I can’t. Gulsiye gives her the bag. If you need anything tell me and I’ll bring it immediately.
Zehra turns to go and Halise stops her. You can’t go. I forbid it. Let me go, mother, Zehra responds. Even if you yell at me, get mad at me, even if you decide to disinherit me, I am going to see Kavruk. She leaves. Nobody respects me, Halise complains. She tells Yahya to bring Zehra back. Don’t drive me crazy! Yayha says, she won’t even listen to me. It’s better if I go with her. It must be chaos at the hospital. Mavi had an accident and she’s there, too. I’m going and I’ll keep you informed.
What accident, Halise asks, was your brother with her? No, he wasn’t, Yahya replies, I have to go, I’ll see you later. Halise says she’s going, too. Yahya tries to talk her out of it. My brother is there, stay here, it’s not necessary. That’s enough, Halise orders, you’re not going to tell me what I have to do. I’m your mother. I said I was going. She goes with Yahya. Gulsiye stays with Melek.
Gulsiye tries to keep Melek occupied but she’s not having it. She throws a doll aside and wants to know where everyone is. Gulsiye is trying to call Zehra, no answer. I told you, Gulsiye says, they called Zehra from the garden. Let’s go out, don’t you want to play with me? Don’t lie, Melek says, I know something happened. But no one wants to tell me because I am a little girl, right? Melek sits and pouts.
Dudu shows up. Apparently Gulsiye called her to help because she had no other choice. I need you to help me with Melek, she says. Dudu goes over to Melek and asks her, maybe we can go out somewhere?
That’s enough, Melek replies, I know you are trying to trick me. Where is Mavi? Please bring me to her. Tell me where Mavi is, Gulsiye. She has become my mother. She promised me she would never leave me, that she would always be with me. Please take me to her or bring her here. I just want to see her. I love her very much. She’s my mother. I want to see her. Please.
And we are out of this awful episode…
I will probably watch but I will have to start/catch up when I get home next week.
Susanlynn, I think the rice trick does work. My audio is working again and my camera was totally unusable and foggy. After time in the rice it cleared up most of the condensation and moisture. It isn't perfect but it is usable now and almost completely clear.
dondi, I have let Rgv Chick know about your missing part 7. I am sure she will retrieve it as soon as she is able.
Diana
I have never had a cell phone. My BFF doesn't have one either. People are amazed. Somehow, I have survived.
Thanks, Diana, for passing the word along to Rgv Chick.
Wow Dondi, what a heartbreaking episode!! I agree it is awful but your recap is wonderful!!!
I suppose we are set up to wonder whose grave - Mavi or Kavruk? But with Kavruk's voiceover it seems obvious......I HATE HATE HATE this development!!! Kavruk was my favorite since day one and I was really rooting for him and Zebra to have a HEA.
Gulsiye must have really been desperate if she called Dudu!!! I understand the inclination to not tell Melek for her protection but after everything this little girl as been through I think hiding that truth from her is probably not a good idea. She needs to know the truth. Plus she loves Kavruk same as she loved Gediz she should be given the chance to say goodbye the way she wasn't with Gediz.
Thanks, Dondi, this was just heartbreaking. In my fantasy mind Sancar is visiting Gediz’s grave, just because I really don’t want Karruk to die and I figure Mavi is a main star of this so she won’t die. I tried to think what character could die, then decided Sancar is visiting his friend, Gadiz. .
One positive thing, he’s not in prison! But I dread tomorrow night, this is a real cliffhanger!
Liz
Dear Dondi, thank you for another unbelievably detailed account of all the angst and misery !!!! Yikes ..where are the writers taking us? How will Mavi escape Sedat's crazywicked clutches , and what will stop the determined Guven from his pursuit of destroying San so that he can raise Melek and ruin her life like he did Nare?
That mansion should have a revolving door with all the coming and going. Gulisye is the only one who is so are there and now she has become Melek' s babysitter . Wow..she calls Dudu for "help" with Melek? Melek loves Elvan and is devoted to her and even though she is a young child , she knows that day son how are interfered with El and Ya. I can't believe that the writers decided to separate Melek from her three strongest bonds ...San, Mav, and Kav . Just too cruel.
Personally, I don't have a problem with either, when we decide the recapping days I will create an account in order to create the separate articles if needed.
Thank you, Rgv Chick, for restoring my recap! Thank you, patio for sticking with me in good times and bad.
Worst. Episode. Ever. There was such a commotion over this in the original airing. And we had to suffer a whole week before getting the next ep.
Darcy, I had a secret crush on Kavruk! (Sorry, Sancar, I cheated on you.) I swear I screamed just as loud for Kavruk as Efem did. Listening to it in Turkish was especially heartbreaking.
Liz, in my fantasy world, I fired the writers! Couldn’t they think of something else to lure Sancar out of hiding? ITA, Susanlynn, what the writers keep doing to Melek is downright cruel.
We are on Turkish ep 47 out of 52. Plenty of drama left.
I have no idea how the writers are going to have Mavi deal with psychopath Sedat. Nothing stops his grinning, demented pursuit of Mavi , including a self inflicted stab wound . Now he is demanding that she give him a child ...but with all the "romantic interludes "that the writers have portrayed San and Mav having , she is probably already pregnant.
Well, the writers need to send either San or Mav back to the mansion to support and comfort Melek.
Regarding Du professing her luuuve for Ya....do not care and neither does Ya right now , but we all know how wishy washy Ya the yoyo can be . Now that someone else is interested in Elvan , he has decided he wants her back. Too late...too bad..sorry..notsorry. Not along.
Meanwhile, Halise continues to be her haughty, controlling, imperious, self . Queen of the Mansion. Uff
Wow...I didn't realize that we dont have many episodes left. This season was short. I will miss these characters.
Susanlynn, each of these Turkish eps are over 2 hours long. Depending on how they edit, one of theirs could equal 2.5 - 3 Uni eps. Still, we are nearing the end.
I've been watching this since it's Turkish start in December 2019. It started on Uni while it was still airing in Turkey! I've spent a long time with these characters and I'm going to miss them, too.
Drat! I cannot believe I missed this episode...grrrr. I keep forgetting it's on at 10. Certainly didn't expect Kavruk's death. He was wise, loyal, loving, dependable, steadfast and my 2nd favorite character this season. How awful that he died.
This season, without Nare, has been a disappointment for me. Something has been lost and it feels like the writers only want to wrap this up quickly. Sancar and Mavi -- no magic there, speed dating. For Melek's sake, I hope they live HEA. That sweet little girl needs stability!
A letdown, but at least Sancar is still alive and kicking!
Q.e.p.d. Kavruk.
