La herencia #12 Thursday 7/28/22 Notes from My Couch . . .

What I remember  from the latest episode.  Feel free to add what you remember from the episode because this is in no way complete.

-Juli gives Juan a framed photo of Severiano as a gift trying to get back with him. He is not moved.

-Prospi is not in favor of Rosa renting Adela's floral shop space and putting her out of business. First, Don Pedro gives Adela 30 days notice but later throws her out the same day. Prospi can do nothing to help.

-Cornelio and Beatriz agree to get a divorce.

-We see more of how Juan and Pedro were tied up and beaten as children. Pedro is still deeply affected by thinking about what they went through.

-Salvador is upset with the shooting seeing it as a sign that people are making BETS again.

-Berta tells Rosa about her past. She had a novio and was going to get married only to find out that her novio, who was addicted to BETTING,  had courted her only because of a BET he had to answer for because his soccer team lost.  That was her calvary of love!!!

-Dante tells Sara that Juan paid off her debt. She is not happy. She tells Juan she can pay off her own debts.

-Simón tells Mateo he is back with Paloma. He fell in love with her when he heard her sing. Mateo loves Juli but doesn't want to break her and Juan up. He fell in love with her at his first communion.

-Simón tells Mateo that Pedro has some sort of plan to get both Sara and Deb out of the house. They do not like the effect that Sara has had on Juan. He is different.

-Sara drags her butt getting to work. She is busy counseling Beatriz. Juan calls her twice telling her she needs to get to work on time.

-Sara is parked by the plaza and sees her mother kissing Dante. Her mother lies saying she was fainting and Dante caught her.

-Sara's car won't start so she still cannot get to work.

-There is a shooting at the plaza shortly after Juan arrives with Pedro. Pedro conveniently disappears into the background before the shooting happens. A guy named Amado is shot but the bullet  seems to have been destined for Cornelio who is there with Tadeo.  When discussing the matter later, Sara notices that what Pedro is telling them about the shooting is different than what he told the police. She asks why did he call out to Amado before the shot was fired???  He insists he called out to Tadeo and squirms his way out of that one and redirects the conversation saying  the police think  that Amado is linked to dangerous BETTING that is going on.

-In a conversation with Dante, Deb is sure that Pedro arranged for somebody to shoot "Cornudo" (cuckold)AKA Cornelio. Dante warns her not to say such things or she will end up making a report to the police. He tells her with a year to work on it, she has enough time to destabilize each of the brothers to such an extent that they will renounce their inheritance. She asks why she would do that knowing that the money would be going to some damn charities. Dante informs her that is exactly what she will do because he owns the charities.

-At the end of the episode Juan chews Sara out  out in  front of Pedro and  Juli about her tardiness. It will not  be tolerated.

-Sara tells Juan to fire her but he won't.  He gets all googly- eyed when  he tells her  that he wants her to be with him.

That is it from the couch!

Jarifa, what an excellent recap.

How cleverly you saw the “betting” theme so clearly and outlined it so well. I was completely oblivious.

The shooting happened so quickly and unexpectedly; I was lost as to exactly where the shot was aimed. For a brief moment, I thought it might be Juan. I should have realized that Pedro seeing the gun before anyone else and screaming a warning meant the targeted victim was "Cornudo" (cuckold)AKA Cornelio” (LOL). Good for Sara for noting the inconsistencies in Pedro’s story.

Juan’s halo was certainly tarnished tonight. Speaking to Sara as he did and further, embarrassing her in front of Pedro and Juli Stepford was unforgiveable.

Another heart tugging flashback to the two brothers in their squalid “home” with their monster mother. Pedro’s tears showed his pain is searing and has not diminished over time. Very, very sad.

I was glad Prospi was trying to talk some sense into Rosa about putting Adela out of business. His standing up to her seemed to get her attention. However, any courage Prospi momentarily displayed evaporated when Rosa found the matches. I believe he tried to say they were Chavita’s which of course she did not believe, marching down there leading him by the nose.

Heartless regarding Adela, Rosa did seem a bit concerned for Berta. I’m shaking my head at her tale. Could it really be true?? I mean the actress/character is beautiful and smart. If so, there is no romantic justice.

Amado finally gets to say a few lines and then gets shot. Doesn’t seem quite fair does it?

I was distracted by the gold bric-a-brac on Pedro’s desk. Was it birds? Puffer fish?

I wouldn’t be in the mood for any moves from Juan but Sara may feel differently. We will have to wait and see.

Wonderful Jarifa! Thank you, thank you.

Diana

Thank you, Jarifa, your quickie from the couch (hehe) was perfect and I believe you mentioned all the important parts.
Cornudo (Loool) having a target on his back because he's Tadeo's legal daddy is a bit much, Pedro really means busi ess. It's sp hard for me to reconcile this version of Pedro with that small tormented boy. I hope we get an explanation of the change, I think it could be the fact that Seve and Juan were some kind of kindred spirits and Pedro felt left out?

Dante's plot is even deeper than we thought, he is the mastermind behind it all, not Deb, apparently. At least now we know that the will is real, since Dante pushed for the charities clause. The guy was smart enough not to use a fake, who knows what else he has planned.

All the Adela drama leaves me cold, but I do love the banter between her and Rosa. I don't really care about Jess/Lucas/Alondra either, 1nd I definitely FFW through anything Brandon/Gringa (what's her name).
But the rest of the story is entertaining, even as I still have a hard time finding any chemistry between Juan and Sara.

Jarifa: Thank you very much for the detailed recap of last night's episode.

It seems like Dante has more sinister plans of looting $$$$$$.

Adriana: I still do NOT feel sorry for Bea because she's the one, who laid up in bed with Psycho Pedro.

I see Adela got put out of business. Not shocked about it!

Diana: The plot continues to thicken even further!

Good stuff, amigas.

Juli Stepford: love that. It describes her perfectly. That is why Juan finds Sara much more interesting. She is not looking to be rescued. She would have paid her debts from her inheritance and she intends to pay him back. She is a partner, not a burden.

From the conversation between Juan and Pedro we found out that Mateo's DNA donors were alcoholics. However, I have to wonder whether Mateo going into rehab away from home would invalidate his inheritance. Now that we know that Dante is the mastermind who has set up a fake charity that the inheritances would end up in he would definitely say so.

Will he ultimately be connected to the accident that killed Severiano?

I also have no doubt that if Dante's plan succeeds (we all know it won't) he would cut Sara out of everything as well and dump Deborah at the same time. When Deborah ran out of the restaurant knowing that Sara was in the plaza during the shooting he paused and rolled his eyes before getting up to follow her.

Dulce is being bullied -- for being a gringa -- by another girl interested in Brandon and she was bullied in the US for being Mexican. The girl hasn't caught a break yet. So how is it that Adele gave such gringo names to her sons?

Was that Propero's restaurant that D&D were in? I wonder if Adele is Prospero's florist for that place.

Finally, how far away is the avocado orchard and the ranch from that big glass skyscraper that is the company HQ? Must be a long commute every day.

Diana, it was weird how last night it was all about “betting”/wagering that supposedly led to crime in town and let Berta at her own personal cavalry. That was a twist I never saw coming. I missed the knick knacks on Pedro’s desk. I will have to pay more attention.

Adriana, that has been THE surprise: asyou noted Dante is “the mastermind” behind all of the financial mischief and seems to be the only one who can control Deb. Why does he have such control over her? Is it only promises of money or something else?

Steve, I am sure there is even more mystery and skullduggery awaiting us!

Jarifa, I believe that Dante could have something on Deb, like maybe ...Sara's true paternity? I think we were all surprised with him because he is being played by Sergio Basanez, who we just saw play a gullible man just a few months ago in La Desalmada. I'm happy to see him do something different, I don't remember seeing him play a villain before.

Urban, good question about Mateo going to rehab and the inheritence. I would say no, since it would be a type of hospital stay, so it shouldn'y count, right?

Diana, your Juli Stepford is clap worthy. Describes her perfectly!

Adriana, oh no! Are you suggesting that Sara might not really be a Del Monte???? LOL

Jarifa, excellent observations and your bingo cards are getting full!

"It's so hard for me to reconcile this version of Pedro with that small tormented boy". Well said Adriana, I am too, especially seeing Pedro's tears last night. Still, in the next breath he tries to have "Cornudo" killed. A killer with a bit of a conscience.

Urban, I am struggling whether Sev's death was intentional or accidental. It could possibly be Pedro. Simon's sprinting from the scene looks suspicious yet Mateo having worked on the car may be the more obvious choice. Malicious intention or ineptitude??

Steve, Bea's made many mistakes but she doesn't deserve to have her son ripped from her arms just because Pedro wants to stake his claim. She has been a good mother.

Diana

I've brought that one up before. We don't know how long Dante and Deborah have been moving the couches but if it's long enough Sara could be his daughter. If that is the case, does he know that or not? Either way he could have bribed somebody to provide a false DNA test result to make her eligible to inherit.

This would have to mean that both Severiano and Sara were unaware of any relationship between Deborah and Dante, but I don't know if Deborah is intelligent enough to manage that without going BSC.

Some lab has the results on the actual DNA sample used for the test so this can be solved before the story ends if this becomes an issue.

About Mateo: Rehab can take months and most specialists want the patient far enough away so that they are separated from family at least in the beginning. My money is on him not going to avoid the risk of losing his inheritance now that he decided to renounce Julieta. Little does he know that Juan is no longer interested in her and is interested in Sara.

Jarifa,,,thank you for another great rundown of this tale as it spins onward. I loved the title. I watch Amor Val and record this show , but I haven't watched it yet . I did surf in and saw the flashback of the little boys being whipped by their faceless , unfeeling mother . When I look at Pedro, I see that scared , abused little boy being protected by his big brother. I hope redemption is in the picture for angry, surly, arrogant , flippant Pedro. I wonder if we will ever see this actor as a galan. I am trying to envision him in the role of Juan.

Ew..Dante is the evil puppet master . Does Dumb Deb realize she is being played ?

Great highlights, Jarifa!

"Steve, Bea's made many mistakes but she doesn't deserve to have her son ripped from her arms just because Pedro wants to stake his claim. She has been a good mother." I agree, Diana. Actually, I was thinking of commenting exactly that.

Sara not being Daddy Del Monte's (I keep forgetting his name) kid makes sense. That's one less likable Del Monte lol.

Yep, Urban mentioned it first, but Sara not being a bio Del Monte would be kind of fun to watch. Would that invalidate the will? Don't think so.

Thanks, Jarifa, once again I learned things that I missed while watching. I was sure Sara’s debt money was not going to pay the debt, but it was and it’s all out in the open now.

Dante has really planned this out, I’d guess he’s been planning this for quite a while. He also seems to be in the side deal Pedro is making.

I hate that Adele and her flowers were evicted. I’m wondering if Deb payed big bucks to get her tossed out. Does she want the space to compete against Rosa? It seems like someone else showed up and offered a lot of money.

Liz

They could always ask Dante for his legal advice on the matter.
Too funny.

One of the most annoying things about most novelas is the lack of quantification with regard to money.

I realize that conversion rates can vary on a daily basis but it would be helpful to know what Deborah owed, what she spends money on, and how much Sara owed before they arrived at the ranch.

I also felt pain for those two little boys who suffered such abuse. Guaranteed we will find out who their egg donor is because the concealment of her face is deliberate. She is around somewhere in that town.

My gut is also telling me that Modesto knows who she is.

On a general note I am liking these small-town stories because the architecture and interior design is much more interesting than glass skyscrapers and spare, neutral-colored pale wall interiors that often look like they belong in a science fiction movie. The Plaza is beautiful and the flowers on the ranch are as gorgeous as the horses. The only thing the house needs now is a nice big dog.

Thank you for your highlights from the couch, Jarifa! They are excellent.

Pedro's suffering as a young boy could have done enough emotional damage to bring on his mental illness as an adult. It is possible. IDK if mental illness can run in families, but the tendency could be from one of his bio-parents. It looked like there was some sort of rope tied to Pedro's foot in the flashback. Did their mother tie him to the furniture? Her shoes definitely told us her (ahem) profession.

We got confirmation that the will is real when Dante mentioned "that infernal one-year requirement."

Sara forgot to button up her blouse all the way. That boob/bra hanging out for half the episode was certainly gratuitous for our male viewers, but ... really?!? Does Corporate Mexico allow attire like that? Along with hot pants and skirts that barely cover the subject? Where is my telenovela beanie hat???

It wouldn't surprise me if Dante is Sara's bio-dad. Deb could have set Seve up on that.

I'm pretty sure Pedro set up the "hit" on Cornudo and Sara smells a rat.

TRIVIA courtesy of parisbeacon.com

The novela was filmed at a real hacienda “Hacienda San José de Buenavista El Grande” in the state of Mexico about 45 min west of Mexico City. The hacienda was built in 1582.

doris, I need to look for my beanie. Somehow it has gotten misplaced which could be dangerous. ITA that Pedro set up a hit on Cornudo AKA Cornelio. Sorry, but I could not resist. ; )

"Pedro's suffering as a young boy could have done enough emotional damage to bring on his mental illness as an adult". Couldn't agree more doris!!

"Sara forgot to button up her blouse all the way". I couldn't decided if it was that or she unbuttoned it. Her bra didn't seem to be showing when she was at Bea's but I was concentrating on trying to decipher what wass said.

I'm going out on a limb as I think Sara is Sev's daughter. She already has Deb as a mother - two terrible parents? OK, I am used to being at patio tables alone at times.

Diana

"IDK if mental illness can run in families, but the tendency could be from one of his bio-parents."
doris, it depends on the mental illness. Illnesses like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia are hereditary. Some other like narcissism depend on whether or not the kid lives with the parent with the mental illness. It's complicated.

I agree partly with whoever said that Pedro wants to make sure that Tadeo doesn't suffer poverty as he did. It would be an over-reaction because Tadeo has two loving parents and they're not living in dirt and rags. But they're not in a position to buy him a car when he graduates from a college they can't afford.

Whatever might be mentally wrong with our sexy bad boy isn't that severe. Juan seems to have gotten over this. Pedro can still cry so I think he can be saved. The question is whether he wants to be.

... novela was filmed at a real hacienda “Hacienda San José de Buenavista El Grande” in the state of Mexico about 45 min west of Mexico City. The hacienda was built in 1582."

I wonder if it has been used in other telenovelas. It looks very familiar to me in the aerial shots of the place.

It may have been used in QT because the aerial shots look familiar. The interiors are very different, though.

The hacienda might have been used in other productions because the article said it is often rented out for various events.

Jarifa, dandy notes from your couch.

I can't stand Deb but she coined "Cornudo" and figured Pedro ordered a hit on his old friend, so she's kind of funny and no dummy. Maybe she'll wind up outfoxing Dante.

Pedro is worse than I expected. He'd rather murder his old friend, the son of beloved Modesto, than share custody. Something is definitely broken inside of him.

Sara forgot to button up her blouse all the way.

Doris, lol. I was trying to figure out whether it was a bra or a camisole showing. It looked awkward.

So the town use to have a BETTING problem. I guess we'll see where this goes.

Niecie, you are right. Deb could turn out to be one smart cookie. Dante needs to watch his back.

We are still in early days, but I do not see Pedro as being redeemable.

Ooooh, and Mateo was Juli's "first" so that seals her doom as not ending up with Juan. #telenovelarules

I have to say I like Juli's Chanel type "little French Jacket" style but it might get old very quickly.

Not sure that is a hard and fast rule but I do have the impression that Julie Stepford may not enjoy sex. She told Deb that seduction was not necessary and we have seen no evidence that she has ever had sex with Juan.

Doris, I was going to comment on Juli's outfits. One is cute, a different one every day is too much.
I also have a problem with some of Sara's work clothes. Some of them are so skin tight, I think she needs to cut them out of her.

I don't think Pedro is mentally sick, I just think he's sick.

Adriana, there seems to be a twist here . The leading lady's wardrobe is usually quite modest looking , while her rival for the galan dresses more provocatively . In this show, Juli wears little Chanel jackets and blouses with bows, while Sara wears her pink blouse with three buttons open to display her black bra. ...to the office . QTH

Susanlynn - Oh, you made an excellent observation on the reversed-role-wardrobe! I didn't even think about that.

Excellent point about the wardrobes Susanlynn!

Adriana, yes Juli's outfits are the cookie cutter same old, same old, aren't they? The jackets and blouses with ties scream that Juli is just buttoned up a bit too tightly.

Niecie, your comment about Pedro that "something is definitely broken inside of him" is spot on. After ordering the murder, even though it (thankfully) failed, I don't think there is any redemption road ahead for him. But I'm often wrong.

Diana

Good point, Diana.

Julieta is the stereotypical Good Girl that every uptight parent wants their son to marry. Rosa has an outdated sense of propriety so I hope she finds out about Mateo and Julieta because she will have a conniption.
