La herencia #20 Thursday 8/11/22 Poisoning the Well--OR--Poisoning the Crops

1. In the kitchen, Pedro is complaining because Modesto allowed "outside" people to come inside their home. Modesto explains that he was having an attack and that Berta helped him  inside the house. Now, he is making supper. Pedro says nobody is interested.  Modesto is not surprised with everything that  happened. He asks Pedro how it ever occurred to him to do what he did to his son who was his best  friend.  Pedro refuses to listen to a sermon and says that the one who is behaving in the worst way is Saint Juan.  He informs him that Juan and Sara are now novios.  He caught them kissing.  Juan refused to deny they were novios in front of everyone.  Lucas comes looking for Sara. When Pedro tells him she is out with Saint Juan, Lucas says he never imagined they were such liars. Pedro patronizingly tells Lucas that he is finally thinking like the little man he is and pats him on the shoulder. Modesto scolds him for starting trouble. Pedro turns on Modesto and tells him to shut up! He snaps his fingers and condescendingly tells Modesto to keep doing his job and to not stick his nose  where it isn't welcome. Modesto explodes and tells him that he will not talk to him that way. As Pedro starts to yell back, Lucas tells them not to start another fight in the house PLEASE!

2. Prospi and Rosa have arrived back home where Rosa is pacing and lamenting  the fact that Jessica is living in a dump. Prospi tries to get her to sit down and when she feels like she is going to pass out, she finally does.  Rosa hopes he has a plan to get Jessica out of there. Prospi says no and instead starts to tell her when he was a young man,  he fell in love with a girl whose parents didn't agree. That doesn't solve anything. She accuses him of having a loose screw  and  continues raving until he asks her if she is still in love with him.  He has to clarify that "being in love" means that you would do anything for that person.  Rosa looks to be at a loss for words. We never hear an answer.

3. Back in the kitchen,  an angry Modesto tells a surly Pedro that he knows he is looking for payback but he won't aggravate him into quitting. HE didn't do anything to him.  Lucas tells Pedro it would be better if he  just went to bed.  Pedro finally leaves.

4. Lucas confirms that Sara and Juan are novios.  Modesto says he saw it coming. Lucas doesn't understand that of all the people in the universe why those two would end up together. Modesto reminds him that you don't choose who you fall in love with. He warns  Lucas not to let Pedro or anyone else boss him around. He is a good and noble kid just like his mother. Lucas admits that his mother was good with everyone,  was always smiling and loving everyone. He misses her a lot. Modesto puts a hand on his shoulder and tells him that Catalina was a great woman but he was referring to his real mother. Yes,  Modesto knew her. He hugs him saying the reason he is telling him that is so that  he will not allow anyone to poison his heart.

5. Now in bed, Rosa is still stuck on Jessica having to warm  tortillas and not being at home while  Prospi  doesn't want a tragedy in his family.  Rosa sees a tragedy already. Prospi wants to go to sleep. She pulls all of the covers off of him and goes to wait for Debi to get home in the living room.

6. Juan and Sara are walking around. He hopes that his brothers would be as understanding as Juli was. Sara does not have the same confidence in Juli. Juan comments that they are hand in hand like a pair of teenagers. Sara says it has been a long time since she has felt like this. They kiss. He tells her it doesn't matter what people say. He loves her. She loves him but is also hungry. They never did eat. He promises to cook her something when they get back to the house. He doesn't want to bother Modesto.  Sara is concerned about Modesto finding out the truth about Tadeo's paternity. Juan is concerned, too, because he adores the boy and  says they will support him. Sara also tells Juan that Modesto said that  her  father sent money to pay for all of her expenses when she was growing up and how her mother emphatically denied it. They both agree that Dante should have the answer.

7. Juli is in her room losing it over the fact that Juan and Sara are novios. She takes off her engagement ring and puts it in a drawer.

8. Then next morning Juli has been summoned to the fields where Brayan shows her  all of the damage the new fertilizer did to the crop.

9. Back in the city at avocado headquarters, Juan, Sara, Pedro and Simón are arriving at work. Sara asks Simón to stop by her office with the background information on the employees.  He assures her he has it ready. Juan asks why? Simón says that Sara has the idea that women are being paid less than men at the company. Juan tells Sara to prepare for and  schedule a a finance meeting to discuss a business assistance program for the farm workers. Pedro asks Simón to join him in his office and they leave.

10. Deb comes to the hacienda to eat breakfast at an already empty table moaning that lately Modesto hasn't  provided her with very good service as he tries to clear the dirty dishes.  He isn't surprised  that a freeloader like her wouldn't miss the chance for a meal. Deb makes it clear that  nobody will be keeping her out of the  house. It does belong to her daughter. He says she picked the wrong time to come and see her daughter because nobody is at home because they all work, not like some people . . . Deb thinks that is even better. She warns him not to be badmouthing her and gossiping (tener la lengua larga/to have a long tongue/to badmouth, gossip) about her to Sara.  Modesto turns it back on her accusing her of being the gossip. She cannot believe that servants would think that they could survive as her enemies. He is certain that she has  nothing on him. Sara agrees not on him but informs him that  she is partners in a textile business where his daughter-in-law Beatriz works!! He didn't know she was a partner with the Millán's. Well, that  is how she met his little grandson Tadeo.  He is so nice just like his father, right?

11. Sara and Juan talk avocado business in his office. Juan thinks it is all about "how to do more with less". Sara prides herself on being able to get the max out of available resources. She agrees they can do the same with his business and make it better for everyone who works for them. She also tells him  that she is mixing her personal life with her business life since she offered a job to Adela at the hacienda. Juan is fine with that. As they talk more business,  Juan has a hard time keeping his eyes off of her.

12. Simón is upset, one more time,  as he shows his statistics and tables to Pedro insisting that contrary to what Sara thinks there is no discrepancy between what they pay men  and women.  He insists that is the proposal that he sent Sara who still insists there are great differences according to rank. Simón reminds him that all the changes had to go through him Pedro the VP. Pedro says his numbers looked right to him when he signed off on it unless their "dear president" Juan took it upon himself to make the changes.

13. Modesto makes it clear that Deb is being fed breakfast because there is no other choice not because it is their moral obligation to do so. Deb turns her plate of fruit over onto the table and says that they will see about that. She gets up and starts to leave commenting  that because of his advanced age he useless. His food lacks quality. Modesto makes it clear that he will not be putting up with her tantrums.  He will be respected. She turns and tells him  that as soon as Sara owns all of the hacienda,  she will kick him out. Modesto tells her that will never happen but he would rather leave this house than to have to see her there. She asks him where would a weak-willed despicable person like him end up. He ended up doing not much more than covering for Severiano. Modesto says he owes everything to this family. She says they don't give a hoot about him or his son. He insists  that they always have treated him very well with love and respect. She asks if he is sure that ALL of them feel like that about him. Does Pedro feel like that? She asks how he would feel if his adorable grandson wasn't really his at all. What if she were to tell him that his grandson's father really was Pedro Del Monte?

14. Juan and Sara finish up their business and he wants to take advantage of the time they have left for some extracurricular activity. As they start to discuss Pedro's proposal, Juli comes in to tell Juan that the new fertilizer retarded the maturation of the avocados. They cannot be exported. Juli tells Sara it is all her fault.

15. Modesto thinks that Deb is only telling him that to try to hurt him. She asks him what did he expect when Pedro was his daughter-in-law's lover? He insists it must be a lie because only she would try to hurt him with what he loves most in this life.  Deb is adamant that she isn't hurting  him. She tells him to be a man and  uncover his eyes. Pedro did it to hurt  Cornelio. He is convinced she is only saying this to ruin the whole family. She says she only came by to open his eyes and tells him to prepare himself because this has barely started and all of the Del Monte brothers are going to back Pedro.

16. Juan asks how the maturation could be so delayed. Juli says she warned them that the trees could be resistant to the change in fertilizer. Sara insists it cannot be the fertilizer because it is one of the most used not only in Mexico but all over the world. Juli informs her that her problem is that she has no experience out in the fields. Sometimes it takes the land years to get used to something new. Juan insists on going to the field with Sara.  Sara tells Juli that she is some how not surprised that something serious like this happened where Juli was involved. The risks of the new fertilizer were minimum. Juli reminds her that  if they had done preliminary testing, they would have discovered this problem. Juan agrees with Juli. He should have approved the preliminary testing but he trusted Sara. Juli says that Sara has proven who she is with a million peso loss.

17. Simón now realizes that all of the numbers on his proposal were changed. He asks Pedro why would Juan do something like that to him?  Pedro admits to being very worried about Juan who has been making serious mistakes as of late. He is putting the business at risk. Simón automatically tries to blame Sara but Pedro tells him that she has nothing to do with this. Pedro says Juan is the problem because he cannot differentiate between what is professional and what is personal. If Juan isn't up to caring for  their inheritance from their father, then they will need to take control. Simón is incensed  that Juan has teamed up with Sara and not them.  Pedro adds that if Juan continues on like this, one day they will turn around and there won't be a company, or fields.  There will be NOTHING. What even worries  him more is that they could lose the Santa Catalina Refuge.

18. Juan tells Bruno to cancel all meetings as he leaves with Sara and Juli. They run into a Mr. Henry (this is the investor we saw before) and a Mr. Arnold on the way out. Juan explains he would like to postpone their meeting. Mr. Henry makes it clear that he wants his next crop. Pedro comes out to ask Mr. Arnold if  they are ready to sign the contract. In front of EVERYONE, Juli  tells Pedro that there are problems with the crop.

19. Modesto is now telling Deb that she has been spouting venom like the viper she is. Deb suggests that Modesto  ask Pedro to his face.  Modesto says if Pedro  proves that she has been lying to him, she will find out what kind of man he is. He won't care if he ends up in jail like Simón. She tells him not to threaten her. What good are these people if they can stab him in the back? He labels her as an evil woman but has to recognize that she is very astute since she always gets her way. She emphasizes that she isn't the one meddling in his life. The one who has meddled in his and Cornelio's life is Pedro.

20. Tadeo visits the cantina on the way to school. He wants to stop off there on his way home to sing with his auntie. He also wants to see his daddy. He doesn't like that he was fighting with his uncle Pedro. Bea says they will see him later and they leave. Amado pays a surprise visit with his arm in a sling. He has just gotten out of the hospital.   Paloma gets a text from Simón telling her that there is a problem. She is going to see what is going on. Salvador is not happy. She goes anyway. Salvador tells Amado to stay because he wants to have a serious talk with him.

21. Everyone is now in a conference room with Mr. Henry who is demanding to know if their investment is in danger. Juan says that they ran into a setback but it is nothing to worry about. Mr. Henry is not pleased. Juan insists he will deliver  what they agreed to. Pedro tells Mr. Henry that they have to trust the head of the company. He asks Juli to tell the investors what she saw. Juan cuts her off saying it is only a minor inconvenience and Sara reminds them that the investment is insured. Mr. Henry feels like they are hiding information from him. The last clause of the contract is very clear. The two investors leave.

22. Juan tells Juli that she should have never said anytime in front of the investors.  She  says that she never did it with the intention of hurting anyone. (SURE) She was very worried. (SURE) Conveniently for her, Juan gets a call from Mateo telling him that everything is a disaster out in the fields. There is not one avocado that can be picked. He urgently needs him out there. Everyone gives Sara the evil eye.

23. Meal time at Adela's is interrupted by Brayan running in to tell the family that the avocado crop is in ruins. Jess tells him not to worry because it wasn't his fault.  The family realizes the millions of pesos that are going to be lost and all of the people who will be without jobs. The family is panicked.

24. Salvador wants Amado to be straight with him. What kind of messes has he gotten himself into? Amado insists he knows all about his problems he had with his gambling and the debts that ensued but doesn't want to have to get into any details about it. That doesn't suit Salvador. If he doesn't tell him the whole truth, he doesn't have a job. Amado says that he needs the job. Salvador says they cannot put everyone in danger because of him.  Does his family know what happened to him? Amado says he doesn't have a family but there is his mother who lives up in San Luis Potosí. She doesn't know anything about what has been going on with him. In his police report he  mentioned his gambling and his debts. The guys who shot him were thugs.  Sal says that at first he had a lot of confidence in him but ever since he has arrived, he has gotten very mysterious and then the shooting. He advises him to return to his town rather than getting shot here. Amado says he promised  himself he wouldn't return until he found someone. He is looking for his brother.

25. Mateo shows Juan and everyone else in the conference room what the avocados look like on his phone. Juan  says they are on their way. Pedro asks Juli for a complete and detailed report on the crop including the quantity of fertilizer used. He asks her not to omit a thing. Juan concludes  that the analysis that Juli submitted to them must have been wrong. She says it wasn't. The purchase was based on the producer's analysis of  previous experience that had been shown with the product. Juan says by believing in her, against the advice of his own people they are losing their investors. Sara disagrees.  She is going to talk to the producers about what happened and get an explanation.  There is a guarantee. Juli asks if she checked the technical safety date on the product. Sara says that would have been Juli's job.  She is only in charge of the finances.  She asks if Juli  checked the date. Juli can only say that they never had a problem like this.  It all sounds very suspicious to her.  Sara asks Juli if she is saying that she did it on purpose. She wants to hear what she thinks. Juli says nothing and Juan tells Sara that she was given responsibility she was not ready for. Now it will end up costing them millions. Sara reminds him this is business and they will have to wait for the results of an investigation to take place. He doesn't see how that is going to help with anything at this stage. She reminds them of the guarantee that they have with the fertilizer company. She tells them they have to work as a team to discover what happened. Pedro speaks up for Sara saying that she cannot be to blame for everything.  Juan says he also bears responsibility in this case but that doesn't exempt Sara. If the cause of this debacle is the fertilizer, Sara is going to be in big trouble.

26. Juan leaves followed by Simón. Simón has some information from the quality control office about the fertilizer  that nobody else knows about.  Simón says they need to keep it quiet so as  not to affect the action in the stock market. They go into Simón's office.

27. Amado tells Salvador that all he knows about his brother is that lives in this town. (did randy old Severiano make a few trips to San Luis Potosí, too?) Amado says he really does have a good idea of  who he is but he doesn't know how to approach him and how he is going to react. Amado cannot tell him until he is sure. Salvador doesn't like mysteries. Amado can understand if Salvador doesn't want him to work there but he assures him he is not on the wrong path. He suspects he was shot at for paying back only part of the debt he owes. As Salvador symbolically cuts his throat with his own finger, he reminds him that gambling debts are debts of honor  (las deudas de juego,  son  deudas de honor).

28. After seeing what Simón has to show him, Juan doesn't understand how Sara could have had  something to do with all of this. Somebody could have added something to the fertilizer. Simón suggests that maybe Sara is working with her mother against all of them. Her mother hates them all. He reminds Juan the nothing like this has ever happened until now.  He tells Juan that they cannot be blind to the fact that something isn't right. Juan tells Simón that he wants the earth at the fields to be analyzed not by the company they normally use but by a foreign one.

29. Sara makes her way into the home office and gets busy nosing around. She starts searching and finds nothing. As she leaves, Lucas is waiting for her asking what she is doing  there.

30. Paloma pays Simón a visit at his office. She came by to make him feel better and that makes him happy. She also brought some food. He says she reminds him of mamá Catalina. Paloma prepared the same food for him that his mother always did when he was upset: mushroom soup and fried potato cakes. He cannot believe that she would remember that from so long ago. He tells Paloma that she is all the woman he needs and he kisses her. She gets his food ready. Simón goes on to say that his mother always told him that he would know that he had found true love when he saw that love grow in difficult times and finally he has found it. They kiss some more.

31. Rosa is complaining because Berta put spinach in their meal. Berta says she did it to give her strength. Rosa has to agree that strength is what she needs in dealing with Jessica's situation. Alondra gets annoyed with her attitude and reminds her that Jessica got married, she didn't die. Rosa goes on about the  deplorable conditions she is living in. Prospi asks about Deb. Berta says she left very early and didn't say where she was going. The woman is a real mystery. Prospi thinks it would be a real good idea to have Deb go live somewhere else. No matter what anyone says, Rosa thinks it is an honor to have a woman like Deb living in their home. Berta says she always like to be honest. She confesses that last night she went to the cantina. Rosa is shocked and disgusted. She calls for the sanitizer and fumigation!  Berta explains that she went to drown the pain that she carries in her soul. Prospi has broken out in a sweat and agrees with Rosa that she shouldn't be going to that place. Berta stares at Prospi and says it has her very worried.  She has confirmed something terrible, yes terrible.  Prospi looks panicked.  Rosa looks like she is on her last nerve.

32. Deb makes up a story about how she has been dreaming about Lucas' father who left so many things unfinished. She feels terrible that Lucas doesn't believe her at all. He sees her as only having used his brothers. She feels sorry for him knowing about his real mother whose mind was altered by drugs, despised him  and abandoned him. He tells her to mind her own business.  She insists that even though he may not believe it, she is worried about all of them.  On her way out, she adds that Modesto is having a very rough time. Lucas asks what is going on. Deb says she probably shouldn't say because Modesto told her something in complete confidence. It might not be true. It is a very sensitive issue and is eating his soul. Little Tadeo is not his grandson. A surprised Lucas asks again if Modesto told her that. She says yes and that he needs to take care of Modesto. He could die.  She leaves. A worried Lucas looks at his father's portrait.

33. Agustín tells Mateo and Brayan that he cannot believe how small the avocados were. They could never be sold. Sara and Juan arrive. Mateo is immediately  in Sara's face telling her it is all her fault. Sara and Juan tell him that they are doing an exhaustive analysis of the situation to find out  what happened. Mateo is next in Juan's face blaming him for trusting Sara who knows nothing about actually growing things in the fields. Mateo makes sure Juan  knows it is a total disaster caused by his supposed "great love." .

34. Suddenly, Prospi is now pale at the table and sweating more than ever.  He gets up and  starts  to stumble as he tries to run away.   Rosa follows him and tells Berta to call an ambulance. He falls on the floor where Alondra and Rosa try to care for him. Berta apologizes for having caused such a reaction. She clarifies things by saying that she was only  referring to seeing Deb with Salvador. The panic attack suddenly ends and Prospi is on his feet verifying what he just heard Berta say.  He tells them all that he has something to say to Salvador about that! He will be at the cantina.  Rosa just can't keep up with all of the action and almost faints again as she is guided to a chair by Alondra.

35. Simón tells Paloma that  when he is having loads of problems, he closes his eyes and imagines that she  is there. It brings a sense of calm to him. She feels the same way about him. Even thought they have been together for many years, she feels like she is in love for the first time.   She wishes she could stay but has to go. He will get a driver to take her back.  He tells her he loves her and hints that he has a surprise for her coming up. They kiss.

36. Modesto comes to see Pedro. He needs him to clear up a doubt that he has. Is it true that he is Tadeo's father? Pedro wants to know who said that. Modesto only wants an answer. Pedro admits that Tadeo is his son. Modesto says that he already knew. He just wanted to hear it from Pedro himself. He doesn't know how he could have done that to Cornelio. Pedro says that Cornelio knows. Modesto calls Pedro a traitor, a damn traitor in terms of his friendship and his parents. He betrayed him when he put him first choosing him above his own son. Pedro grabs Modesto by his shirt and tells him that is the last time he will call him a traitor because the next time,  he will kill him.

37. In the final scene, Mateo is telling Sara that he hopes she is happy because everything she touches, she destroys. She destroyed his family, his brothers and now their company all because of her ambition and the damned inheritance. Juan now is unsure of Sara and asks her if she caused all of this by adding something to the fertilizer. Sara is speechless . . . until the next episode.

* the name of Salvador's cantina is "Los adoloridos"  "Those in Pain"

Best scene: Prospi’s panic attack thinking he was going to get outed by Berta. Julián Gil looked like he was going to explode, before he hit the floor. I laughed out loud.

Amado has a brother in town? Whose brother is he?

I felt the worst for Modesto.

Looks like it is full steam ahead for Pedro and Deb is on a roll all her own.

Can’t wait until tonight.

FYI

Manuel Ojeda died yesterday at 81. I still remember his masterful machista portrayal of Elena’s father in my first novela ever “Por ella soy Eva”. It was so good it made my skin crawl. Can’t expect more than that.

Gracias, Jarifa.

It's obvious that Julie Stepford had something put in the fertilizer to cause this problem so it would look like Sara is out to destroy this family. It is also obvious that she didn't consider the collateral damage risk which is the possible bankruptcy of the business. That would not suit her own plans.

Deborah is determined to fully destroy that entire household. Her disgusting treatment of Modesto made me sick. He doesn't deserve this. How long is it going to be before Sara sees what she is doing? Rhetorical question because the obvious answer is that most likely she won't know until a week before the finale.

As for what Deborah said to Lucas, I don't trust this information. She is a steaming pile of hatred as well as greed.

More later.

Manuel Ojeda was also the machista nightmare Don Patricio in Quererlo Todo, which I recapped. Brilliant performance.

OT:

Jarifa: Sorry to hear about the passing of the legendary Manuel Ojeda.

RIP

Steve Boudreaux

Thank you, Jarifa, very entertaining and informative recap.
I also suspect Juli has something to do with the fertilizer tampering, but if you listen to what they are saying, it's they decided to change the product for the entire crop without even testing it first - and all of this on the recommendation on someone who has no clue about agriculture. No wonder the bad guys have enough arguments to say Juan is not thinking straight because of Sara.

I wonder whoch one of the brothers will be related to Amado. Could it be Simon?

Thank you for your recap, Jarifa!

There are so many layers to this story and the writers are peeling each one back as we go. It almost feels like a Shakespeare play, as the family and relationships disintegrate.

Wasn't Amado the guy who was shot in the park? And we thought the bullet was meant for Corny, arranged by Pedro?

Could Amado be brother to Simon?

Modesto knew Lucas' mother ... hmmm.

Deb is such evil. When she finished with Modesto I could almost see the thought bubble over her head, "where can I stir up trouble NEXT?"

Who changed the numbers on the salary report? I doubt it was Juan. My money is on Pedro, who wants to oust San Juan and be President.

Didn't Pedro promise Santa Catalina to Dante if things went Pedro's way?

I'm waiting to take sure the avocados were poisoned before I check that box off for a BINGO!

Wasn't that fertilizer ordered just a week or two ago? Were we despuesed without being told ? It seems like too short a time to affect the avocados. I'm no gardener, but the soil 'having to adjust' to a new fertilizer makes no sense to me.

Jarifa, your masterful recap was insightful and wonderfully detailed. Sadly, the episode itself was devoid of any sunlight, any joy.

I loved” tener la lengua larga/to have a long tongue/to badmouth, gossip)” and “gambling debts are debts of honor (las deudas de juego, son deudas de honor)”. I always learn something new from you – thank you.

"There are so many layers to this story and the writers are peeling each one back as we go. It almost feels like a Shakespeare play, as the family and relationships disintegrate" could not have been better expressed doris!!

Deb’s red lips dripped lies and sordid truths but without honey – only venom. After assassinating his character, she crushed Modesto with Tadeo’s truth. While he loved Sev’s sons as his own (as Cornelio would surely attest), Deb’s “ he ended up doing not much more than covering for Severiano” may have a bit of truth.

Juan’s lack of character in openly blaming Sara was particularly disappointing. He allowed his brothers as well as Juli to defame and attack her viciously. And then rather than speaking with Sara in private, he accuses her of poisoning the fertilizer? The antithesis of galan behavior.

A few teasers including who might be Amado’s brother and “Modesto puts a hand on his shoulder and tells him that Catalina was a great woman but he was referring to his real mother”. Hmmmm.

Prospi asking Rosa if she is in still in love with him was sad but it seems that she likely was. At one point.

In an episode where Simon and Paloma were the only characters that smiled, one must wonder how all of this is going to turn out.

Jarifa, I didn’t enjoy last night but your recap was marvelous. Gracias amiga.

Diana

Okay... so Modesto and Deborah told Lucas opposite things about his egg donor. Is Modesto possibly his sperm donor and is that how he met Severiano?

Unlike most of his brothers, Lucas has a good heart.

What future is Pedro thinking of if Dante gets Santa Catalina? How does Pedro expect to get everything else?

I could be wrong but it looks to me like the brothers are wealthy enough that if Pedro wanted to he could sell his share of the inheritance to the others and go off to live like a playboy if that's what he really wants. Is a year too long to wait?

Jarifa, I wasn't sure who Manuel Ojeda was but I looked him up and I have seen him in several things. An excellent actor.

Urban, interesting theory that Lucas might be Modesto's son!! Lucas has a gentle soul and spirit and I would be happy for both if that were the case.

I think Pedro Pedro wants all or nothing. Not only the money but to usurp Juan as the head of the family. In a twisted way, Pedro still loves the older brother who protected him as a child but resentment and jealousy has overruled that affection.

Diana

Urban, ITA Juli doesn’t seem to be very smart in her scheming considering bankruptcy could be the result. Her blurting out the problem with the crops in front of the investors was incredibly stupid for the same reason. Deb will say whatever she can to sow discontent.

doris, yes, Amado was the guy who got shot. My money is also on Pedro for changing the numbers. Here is hoping you get to BINGO tonight!

Diana, Juan did not impress me at all either when he threw Sara to and joined the wolves. One would think that since he has been in the agriculture business his whole life and she hasn’t, he would have INSISTED on doing some preliminary testing and not relying on word of mouth or the manufacturer's data. The buck stops with him. We have had a lot of quite weak non-traditional galanes in the last few years, haven’t we? I am remembering the kind but so very easy manipulated Chente in “Mi fortuna es amarte,” Martín in “Si nos dejan,” Darío in “Vencer el pasado”, etc. They have all been sort of meh to me at least.

Adriana, it will be fun to see who Amado is related to. It could very well be Simón at this point. Every episode brings a new mystery.

"I think Pedro wants all or nothing. "
Diana - Yes. It is as much for the wealth (understandable) as about gaining power and control (sick mind).

Pedro likely has a plan to get Santa Catalina back after he gives it to Dante. There is no figuring out a sick mind. He has feelings, so he is not a sociopath like Deborah. Whatever his mental and emotional problems are, they are very grave.

Rosa freaking out over Jessica having to warm the tortillas is supposed to be our comic relief, based on the incidental background music. How will Rosa fare when it's Jessi's turn to clean the toilets in that house?

Doris: The Body Count increasing in all likelihood.

Crazy Pedro, Looting Dante, Gold-Digger Debbie & Co., are all CRAZY!

All of this evilness is giving me a splitting headache!

Steve Boudreaux

What is fun about our villains is that they all try to plot together, create partnerships to further their scheming, but they all plan to betray their co-conspirators in the end. I don't think for a second Pedro would allow Dante to put his hands on Santa Catalina, he's just dangling the prized possesion in front of the lawyer to get him to do his bidding... and Dante has his own plot going with Deb, who is pulling strings left and right on her own, too. It will be fun to see them start betraying one another and then fall one by one.

Muchas gracias for the great recap, Jarifa!

I agreed with so many comments I don't know who to quote, lol.

Julieta is so stupid. She made Juan's family lose so much money just to make Sara look bad. And she says she "loves" Juan? You don't hurt the people you love.

To be completely fair, Juan shouldn't have blindly trusted Sara about the fertilizer, since she is completely ignorant on the topic. Not that I'm defending Juli, but blindly trusting her and then asking her if she did something to the fertilizer was stupid at best. I think someone said this a few episodes ago, the should have tested the fertilizer on some avocado trees first and not on ALL of them. Makes you wonder how these people had a successful business, they made many novice mistakes.

"It will be fun to see them start betraying one another and then fall one by one."
I agree, Adriana. There is no "honor among thieves" in this telenovela.

Good point about Pedro making a false promise to Dante. That seems very likely.

As for Rosa, forget about Jessica warming up tortillas and cleaning toilets. What do you think Rosa will do when Jessica gets pregnant? She might faint for real when that happens at which time I'd love to see Prospero telling her to get over herself.

Are those trees destroyed forever? Enquiring minds want to know.

Urban, good point about Jessica getting pregnant. Lotsa’ luck!

At least she won't have to worry about whether the nieto will be healthy or good looking. That guy is hot.

Sure is.

I'm hoping Julieta did not cause the crop failure. It's worth giving up a BINGO!
Surely she isn't that evil. Besides, it would affect her own financial security (job) if the business has problems.

Jarifa, thank you for that detailed account of all the strife and struggles . I am just watching the episode now. I

Poor Modesto gets no respect . I don't known if I can forgive pouty Pedro for speaking so rudely to him . I wasn't surprised apothecary Deb talked to Modesto because she is hateful to everyone. Geez, Deb has put her hat back on .why? I

The actor playing Juan doesn't seem very confident at horse riding , but I think he can speak English because he said " How to do more with less" very clearly and confidently. Pedro sounded good speaking English , too. I'm think many young Mexicans studied English in high school because English is a popular second language to learn all over the world. It has replaced French as the language of international business, so students come here to study it or study English in high school.

I gets big kick out of Pedro giving people the side Eye as he tries to manipulate people.

When Prospi told Rosa that when he was young , he fell in love with a girl whose parents didn't agree, was he talking about Rosa and her parents ?

Thanks, Jarifa. Enjoyed my afternoon break with your excellent recap.

Modesto tells Lucas he knew Lucas's bio-mom, and Lucas asks no questions about her? Lucas, you have no curiosity about her at all? Lucas's bio-mom came up twice this epi, with the truth from Modesto and no doubt distortions/lies from Deb, and Amado reveals he's searching for his bio-hermano, so I'm guessing Lucas is the one.

Juan certainly did flip on Sara at the end. I'm hoping this is just a cheap cliffhanger to bring us back tonight, cause it's crazy if he thinks Sara would tamper with the fertilizer.

Sad seeing those shrunken avocados on the trees. Maybe they can press them still for avocado oil or other uses.

Prospero's body contortions are a hoot.

"Modesto tells Lucas he knew Lucas's bio-mom, and Lucas asks no questions about her? Lucas, you have no curiosity about her at all?" Niece, I know right? I didn't think of this at first, but it was weird.

"When Prospi told Rosa that when he was young , he fell in love with a girl whose parents didn't agree, was he talking about Rosa and her parents ?" Interesting theory, Susanlynn. I think he did mean Rosa.

Susanlynn and Weirdo, I agree that Prospi was definitely talking about Rosa, mentioning her parents who seemed to indicate it wasn't a good match.

I thought Rosa looked a bit guilty for a nano second, then she was onto the next...

Niecie, I agree about "Prospero's body contortions". Julian Gil is so cast against type but I am crazy about the actor's portrayal of and the character himself. I can't wait to see what he does each night.

Ha.... The " Those in Pain" Cantina. Not a very fun name for a bar. Is it the place where everybody knows your name like Cheers???

Weirdo: At this point, I want Bratty Julieta to die a horrible death!

The ultimate Karma Anvil with her name on it!
