La herencia #23 Tuesday 08/16/22 Dinner with the Schmucks
Rosa asks Deb about her love life, making Prospi choke on his tea (again). Berta comes to ask about Modesto, Deb is not happy with the guy – it was his fault that she and Catalina fought back in the day. Severiano was such a gentleman, but he kept pursuing her and even as she was such a decent, innocent girl, who would have never gotten involved with a married man, she allowed herself to be seduced by him (Prospi has to admire her acting, since he knows from experience she’s lying through her teeth). And Modesto told Catalina the truth, poor Deb didn’t even know that Severiano was married at first. Then, when people found out what had happened, they all started pointing fingers at her, making her feel so bad she even contemplated suicide. Rosa is very sympathetic, even Bertha is paying attention.
Modesto has a flashback to showing young
Juan his new room. The boy is so happy, he starts jumping on the bed.
At Avocados R US, Simon blames Sara some
more for their problems, while Mateo is afraid Juan will change completely for
Sara. Juan tries to say that Sara offered to pay, but Lucas points out this is
NOT her fault, and either way, they are losing all their clients! Simon demands
to know what he plans to do, Pedro is right when he says he is losing focus
because of Sara. Juan reminds them all he’s done a great amount of business
deals while their father was alive and he is the president of the company – who
doesn’t like it, is welcome to leave.
Rosa tells Deb she has dinner guests, but
it’s nothing important, there is no need for her to be present. When she finds
out the Cruz family is coming, Deb wants to attend, just for fun, Prospi
dislikes how they both make fun of the in-laws, especially his wife – he used
to be poor, too. Rosa says that is in the past, what she’d like to know is why
is Deb dating that good for nothing Salvador? All that Deb can say about it is
that she’s very happy with her life right now. Prospi is shaking in his boots.
With Pedro back at the meeting, they
continue talking about Mr. Henry and how another company could poach him. Juan
says they need time, he knows what he’s doing. Lucas is in his corner.
Then Juan changes the subject to telling his
brothers they all have to be present tonight for dinner, because Modesto is leaving.
Pedro doesn’t think Modesto deserves all the fuss, Juan reminds him why the
poor man is going away.
Bea and Tadeo are checking the homework.
The boy drew a picture of himself with daddy, he didn’t add her because she
works a lot. She promises they will soon go on vacation together.
Dante is on the phone with Deb, telling her
Sara wants to sacrifice herself for the company, and Deb promises not to allow
it. She asks Dante to find the adoptive documents of the boys, but it’s not
that easy for him to do it when he goes to the ranch. But Deb has a meeting
with Sara later, she will have to find a way to get her hands on those papers.
Adela is upset with her father for having
spilled her secret. The past needs to stay in the past. She asks him to keep
his mouth shut, Augie says he knows everyone’s secrets, he knows about Paloma’s
mother and Rosa, and now, even about Simon and the accident. Adela is
surprised, demands an explanation. Augie is tormented by this secret, so he
tells his daughter that Simon left Severiano to die. Adela says this is huge!
Alone in his office, Pedro remembers his
last talk with Sara and smiles, but then he flashes back to his mother drinking
and gets angry.
Paloma and Simon are chatting, talking
about making their engagement official. He says the problems in the company are
very serious and they have problems at home, too, with Modesto leaving. It’s
because of this that he can’t accompany her the next day. They kiss but stop
when Salvador arrives. Simon leaves immediately, Paloma begs her father to stop
meddling. Salvador says he loves her more than anything, that’s why he can’t
agree to the wedding. Paloma hugs him, asks him to think about her happiness.
It’s night time and Sara is in her room,
reading an article on her laptop when Juan knocks on her door. He asks her to
come down for dinner, but she’d rather not. She tries to close the door, but he
won’t let her. Instead he looks at her with sad puppy eyes, and it’s kind of
working on me. He starts talking about her eyes and her lips, she tries to
resist him, he adds that he’s sorry about what is happening at work. She says
she doesn’t want to talk about that now, and he’s more than happy to oblige, he
comes inside and they start kissing.
After a while Sara stops him, she can’t get
over how he treated her at the company. He says they don’t have to mix
everything, she needs to learn to separate things. But Sara disagrees, he needs
to trust that she can do her job well, why would he say that she plans to ruin
them? Juan declares that when it comes to business he trusts nobody. Not even
the woman you love, Sara asks and when he doesn’t answer, she opens the door
for him to leave. You’re an idiot, Juan!
Tadeo is preparing a bag, but hides it when
his mom comes to get him downstairs. Tadeo remembers how Cornelio asked him to
keep their vacation plans a secret and tells his mom that he was putting some
clothes away because he’s gotten too big for them. Bea believe shim.
The Cruz family arrives for dinner and
Bertha welcomes them with a lot of fuss, introducing the house like if it was a
French Castle. The guests come carrying several pots and pans and the dinner
table is very nicely set… for some of the seating, while the other places have
plastic dishes. They start making room on the table for their food, just as Rosa
arrives, explaining she thought they would feel more comfortable eating from
the type of plates they are accustomed to. Bryan protests to such offence and
Prospi arrives and asks Bertha to change the plastic to normal plates.
Rosa asks Jess if she doesn’t miss her
home, but Jess says she is very happy with Bryan. They sit to eat, with the
Cruz family creating the kind of racket you would imagine.
Another dinner table, young boys are eating
quietly. Or at least this is how Modesto still sees them and it’s a rather
poignant scene. In reality all brothers except for Pedro ask Modesto to
reconsider about moving. Modesto says he’s going to live with Salvador for now,
Juan offers to help, which upsets Pedro. Juan says he is the one who should fix
the situation, gets very mad, especially when Pedro tries to leave the table.
At the Cruz-Millan table, they are all
eating cheese and avocados and a few more dishes I don’t recognize. Deb arrives
to mock, sits next to Prospi after Brandon makes some room. Alondra and Julieta
arrive, too, asking about the dishes. Julieta is happy to eat frijoles, Alondra
too, everyone prefers Adela’s dishes to Rosa’s. Deb tries to caress Prospi
under the table, but reaches Augustin instead. He says there must be something
under the table, wants to look, Prospi gets restless, and some food falls on
the table. It’s a circus, even Bertha finds it amusing. Rosa tells Jess she
needs to come back home, Jess would rather not talk about this in front of
strangers… like Deb. Julieta supports her sister, can’t Deb go live somewhere
else?
Deb pretends to be offended, stands up to
go see her daughter, one can only hope she leaves for good, Julieta says. Then
she makes a toast to Bryan, and they all drink, while Rosa is afraid they will
break her glasses. Bryan adds that they will do a big wedding when they have a
chance. Bertha agrees, Prospi warns him about making Jess cry, Dulce invites
everyone to her Quinze. Rosa is furious she didn’t get to talk, as they all
leave the table to go drink some tea.
Juan promised Modesto not to stop him from
leaving. Modesto stands (he wanted to serve the food, but Juan doesn’t allow
it). He starts talking to each of the men and we get to see the young boys
again. He tells Lucas he held him in his arms when he was just a baby; he
remembers how he kept Simon warm when he found him in a bassinet in the cold in
front of the ranch; Mateo, always so passionate, how many times did he have to
tend to his wounds of the flesh, but also those of the heart; Pedro, you only
need a lot of love, forgive me for not having been able to fill that void. And
Juan… Modesto can’t go on, because he’s crying (I’m not crying, I just have
something in my eye). Juan goes to hug him, telling him there is no need for
words, they can talk about it when he comes back home. Simon, Lucas and Mateo
all go to hug Modesto, too, while Pedro looks on upset.
A bit later, Modesto is leaving the house.
He hugs Lucas, then Mateo and Simon, telling them he loves them. Juan, who is
full on crying, is the last to say good bye, while Pedro still looks on, from
the study door, before going inside. Modesto has another look at the ranch and
then he leaves. Outside he cries some more. Simon, who is waiting to take him
to Salvador’s, hugs him again.
Inside the house, Juan goes to talk to
Pedro. Lucas asks him not to fight again. Juan asks Pedro what does he have
against Modesto and Pedro says he doesn’t like the fact that he’s just like
their father, they both worship him. He could never be as good as Juan. Juan
calls him selfish, dad loved you, too, and they need to work together.
What’s the point since dad left only you in
charge? Pedro asks. I hate Modesto because he reminds me that you are the only
heir to dad’s love.
Juan calls him a cynical, what he did to
Cornelio was awful, he was like a brother to him. Pedro doesn’t care, says they
can always hire a cook, but Juan promises one day he will pay for what he did
to Modesto.
At the bar, Salvador asks Cornelio to stop
drinking. Cornelio agrees, since he has important things to do the next day.
Salvador asks him to come work for him, but Cornelio says no, his life will be
somewhere else. He evades more questions, then he gets a call from Deb, his
accomplice, who got him a truck.
Jess thanks Rosa for dinner, says she’d
like to have them over at her new house one day. Julieta is happy to come, Rosa
goes “God forbid”, but Prospi says it will be an honor. Rosa says a dinner
doesn’t make them family, Jess points out she’d rather hang out with a perfect
stranger like Deb and reject her husband! Adela says it’s time to leave, the
Cruz family starts saying goodbye. Rosa asks Jess to stay the night, she says
no, Prospi asks for the frijoles recipe, even Bertha makes friends with
Brandon.
Deb has come to see Sara. What’s the story
of Pedro being in love with you? Sara think he’s only competing with Juan, but
he can cause her even more problems. Deb says soon enough their year together
will be over and she can even go back to Esteban if she wants. But Sara is
reluctant about never seeing that guy again, she loves Juan. Deb says Juan will
abandon her just like Severiano did with her; she has to think about the
inheritance.
Someone calls Deb, but she doesn’t want to
answer, because it can only be Prospero, her business partner, wanting to throw
her out of the house. Sara asks if something else is going on with Prospero and
Deb admits they are lovers.

I haven't watched my recording of thks episode yet, but I surfed in a few times , and the scene of Modesto seeing the 5 little boys eating at that same tablet was so touching . Parents and grandparents keep those images of their children and grandchildren as little ones tucked into their hearts and minds even when they are all grown up.
Pedro is his own worst enemy . Evidently his early life as a negkected, abused child has made him bitter and damaged emotionally. He is so jealous if the big brother even though Juan protected and cared for him when they were young and living in such dreadful conditions.
So..Prospi was poor when he married Rosa , whose parents must have been rich and disapproved of the match.
Deb is a vixen who loves to play with people . She enjoys deceiving Rosa in her own home. What a witch.
Augie holds so many secrets. He seems to be anxious to spill all the tea.
I didn’t realize Rosa had given them plastic plates. Can’t wait till she finds out about Rosa and her husband.
I felt sorry for Pedro at the dinner. I don’t think he’s capable of really loving someone. Don’t they say you have to love yourself first. Guess that’s his problem.
So now Sara knows her mom is living with Prospero’s family and he’s her lover. Hope she wises up to other things about Deb!

Rosa is horrible. She gave the people plastic plates?
Speaking of Rosa, she and Próspero should break up. What kind of relationship is that? Both of them have cheated on each other. Just break up, maybe they'll both feel better. It's definitely be better than this, at least for Próspero. It's worse feeling guilty.
We have many that have to be done. The three people that the rest said have to make an appearance, we have interesting plot lines and secrets to be revealed. How many episodes is La Herencia in total?
We got a blurred glimpse of the egg donor of Juan and Pedro. It looks like she brought her clients home to be serviced. How much of that did her sons see?
So, Simon was left in a basket during the winter. This is a twisted fairy tale. There might be a lost prince among the brothers.
So now we know that Prospero was poor when Rosa married him. She still seems to see him that way.
At least Julieta showed respect for Jessica and her in-laws. How long will that last?
Deborah clearly is still trying to turn Sara into a xerox copy of herself. That feels too familiar. And it's disgusting.
The only thing that should change about Sara is to get her roots touched up and for her to tell her mother off once and for all.
Will Modesto ever go back to the hacienda? Who will take his place in the interim?
:-D
Rosa giving Adela & Co. plastic plates showed how awful Rosa is. That was just rude and insulting.
Someone ought to put a sock into Simón's mouth to shut him up. Ya basta!
Seeing those little boys around the dinner table in Modesto's memory was so touching. Pedro reminds me of one of those persons that is never satisfied, no matter what you do to try to please him. From what we've seen, each boy received precious individual time and attention from Sev, Catalina, and Modesto.
Wondering how long it will take for the news about Simon running from the accident to move along. Who will Adela tell? Maybe her friend Sal, who hates Simon?
Yikes, that dinner party was a comedy of errors. Deb just added to the already explosive mix .
Pedro was so affected by his harsh , deprived, neglected childhood that he may be damaged beyond repair . Perhaps the only chance for his redemption is if he saves someone at the end.
The scenes of Pedro and Juan appearing as adults in that hovel and watching their reeling drunk mother was interesting . It was a way of showing that traumatic childhood memories endure and continue to cause pain in adulthood. However, Juan became gentle and loving while Pedro became bitter and angry.
Let's not forget about Simon becoming unhinged at Gold-Digger Debbie when he saw the picture of Santa Catalina in the trash.
