La herencia #22 Monday, 08/15/22 "To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved"
We starts with a repeat of Severiano’s advice to Juan: don’t allow anyone to hide stuff from you… Maybe that’s why Juan goes in control freak mode every time one of his brothers dares to take a dump without asking him – he has his guardian angel/ sainted father always whispering in his ear.
Rosa is outraged Jess would propose a family
dinner and Adela isn’t more willing, either. I imagine a Cruz-Millan dinner has
to be just as fun as a Del Monte get together, so I say bring it on. Bryan
arrives with his “suegrita” cheers and Bertha encourages the dinner idea – let’s
reunite the family! Rosa accepts, but beware, no prehistoric food in her house,
and please shower first!
Prospi and Deb are still doing it, but
after the fact he feels guilty. Deb is trying to maneuver him like she always
does, but she has a point when she says that in his family nobody respects him
like they should. Prospi wants her to live elsewhere, he’s also worried about
her being a partner at the boutique. Deb half threatens to break up, Prospi
says they need to learn to hide better. Deb actually calls him a coward, but
she likes him just like that.
Juan is at work, but remembering his bio-mother
during one of her “drinking parties”. He cries.
Rosa asks Bertha to pull out all the stops
for the dinner they are preparing, but don’t set the table for more people than
usual… she has a surprised planned. Alondra arrives to announce that she’s
decided to start working, even if her mother disagrees. Rosa changes her mind
when she finds out Alondra plans to work with Lucas. Maybe this daughter will
land a Del Monte after all.
Sara and Pedro are having lunch in a
restaurant, talking about Juan and how much she loves him. But his distrust is
hard to take. Pedro grabs her hand, saying he’s sure someone tampered with the fertilizers.
Not Julieta, she’s a very good professional. But he’ll be by Sara’s side,
helping her no matter what. She wants to leave, but Pedro asks her to stick
around, because he wants to spend more time with her. Why is that? Because he
has feelings for her. Sara seems surprised, but her first reaction is to
remember all the good moments she shared with Pedro, like the time she
comforted him about Tadeo or when he held her hand when she was upset. She then
reminds Pedro that she loves Juan, gets upset when Pedro mentions Juan’s lack
of faith in her. He says that he’s not a monster, he never felt like this
before, with her he forgets everything bad that ever happened to him. I
actually believe that Pedro is sincere.
In the chapel, Modesto is praying for his son. He’s sad, feeling he failed Cornelio. And he feels bad for Pedro, too. God help me, he begs, while Severiano’s painting is looming (because apparently there is one copy of his portrait in every corner of the house).
Simon comes to talk to Paloma about his
surprise. Salvador wants to throw him out, but Simon has come to ask for Paloma’s
hand in marriage. Salvador reacts as bad as one can imagine, wants to kick Simon
out even more. But Simon insists the past is in the past, he wants to start a new life
with his daughter. Paloma is upset, too, calls Salvador selfish, but her father
says that the Del Monte will ruin her just like they ruined her mother. Because
she left in order to be far away from that family. Paloma is shocked to hear
this, why did her father lie about her dying? Salvador says she is dead now,
but Severiano made her want to leave her family, and now Simon is trying to
destroy her. Simon says he won’t make the same mistakes, Paloma demands to know
where her mother is buried, and she’s sick and tired of her father’s lies. She accepts the marriage proposal.
Deb and Prospi are walking in the street and she insists on holding his arm, just as Dante shows up. Deb plays the business partner card, but Dante wants to talk about Sara, so Prospi leaves them alone. Dante mocks Deb about hanging out with a village man, she reminds him he has no room to talk, since he’s married. They talk about the problems with the avocados and how Sara offered to pay the damage with her inheritance.
Juan is now home, drinking orange juice and
waiting for lunch all alone – everyone else is away. He tells Modesto he has
big problems at the company, the older man is sure Juan will be OK, Severino
has had this type of issues before. Juan sees Modesto’s luggage, he won’t
stop him from leaving, but let’s talk first. They go into the kitchen and Juan
serves them something to eat. We find out that Modesto was the one to warn
Severiano and Catalina about he and Pedro living such a miserable life as kids.
Juan would like Modesto to stick around to
say goodbye to his brothers. He’s upset this is all because of Pedro. Modesto
has to be loyal to Cornelio, this is bigger than his promise to Severiano. They
hug and Modesto cries.
Now outside, Sara is still trying to convince
Pedro she loves Juan. They run into Deb and Dante and Pedro leaves to get the
car. Deb scolds her daughter, she and Dante try to convince Sara one of the
brothers is trying to trick her into giving up her inheritance. Don’t sign
anything before asking Dante! Sara remembers Pedro’s warning about someone
tampering with the fertilizer and Dante adds that he knows that the Del Monte
family are not to be toyed with.
Deb tries to ask what the deal with Pedro
is, but Sara says they were talking business. Dante says he won’t be able to
show that he’s on her side at work, but let him do the talking, OK? Then he
leaves and Deb asks about Juan now, are they lovers as Julieta said? Sara
denies any hanky panky, but she is in love with him. Deb is upset, but Sara
asks her to come to the ranch at night, they need to talk alone… about Pedro.
Bryan is taking a bath in a plastic tub in
the middle of the living room … they won’t have to do this every day, just
until the water heater is fixed… as soon as they can afford the repair, of
course. Jess doesn’t look happy, she won’t even wash his back at first. She
reluctantly agrees, he’ll do the same for her later. Jess dreams about having
their own place with a pool.
Later he tells Jess he wants to impress
Rosa, but she sees him put on socks with holes in them. Adela and Augustin arrive
from the market, they bought food they plan to prepare for the dinner, some
frijoles and what not. Adela asks a terrified Jess to help prepare the food,
Jess tries in vain to say there is no need to bring anything.
Julieta and Mateo are back from another one
of their platonic meals together. Julieta wishes Mateo good luck with the
meeting they are about to have with their business partners, Juan will need his
support, she stresses. Pedro, Lucas and Simon arrive and ask Mateo to talk in
private.
Julieta then goes to see Juan, who tells
her Modesto is leaving. He fills her in about Tadeo, she comforts him, he’s not
alone, he can always count on her. Sara arrives just in time to see them in
close proximity (oh, the irony), Julieta mentions how important the meeting is
going to be and Juan says there is no need for Sara to be present. Sara remembers
Dante’s warning and insists she has to be there.
Pedro makes a speech in front of his
brothers about how bad things are going ever since Juan took over. Everyone but
Lucas agrees, Pedro adds that Sara is not to blame, Simon says they can’t fight
with eachother. Pedro says that if Juan can’t deal with this problem, how will
he handle future crisis? Maybe it’s time for a drastic decision? The four of
them need to be united, protect the company. Lucas thinks everything will be OK
if Sara pays the damage with her inheritance, but the other brothers say things
are not that easy. Sara probably had something to do with the problems they are
having and she was surely pushed by her mother, Simon adds.
Prospi arrives just in time for Rosa to
complain about Alondra, who wants some independence. Prospi defends his
daughter. Rosa tells them the Cruz family is coming to dinner. Time to teach
them about class.
Julieta is still working on Juan, ever
since Sara arrived he is fighting too much with his brothers. Juan doesn’t like
what he’s hearing, but Juli insists. Juan looks over at Sara through the glass
wall, which bothers Julieta – they lost so much money because of her, how can
he be so smitten still? But she gets it, she’s very pretty, even Pedro finds
her attractive. Sara has been checking them out this entire time, too.
At the bar Amado promises Cornelio he will
start to behave from now on. Cornelio is sure Pedro set up the shooting and he
was the target. Amado needs to help him take Tadeo far away. But the guy is
afraid, that’s too much. Cornelio insists, even Senora Deborah is helping.
Amado still says no, so Cornelio asks him to keep this to himself. Amado agrees
and leaves. When Paloma asks what they were talking about, he evades her.
During the business reunion Juan says that
they had a problem with the avocado picking, so they won’t be able to deliver
the agreed upon merchandise. The business partner, Mr. Henry (?), gets mad,
wants to annul the contract, says Juan’s clueless when it comes to business, a
poor imitation of his father. Juan gets mad, too, it’s fine if they want to terminate
their contract, but he won’t allow them to question his leader abilities. Simon
says the person in charge of their problems will be punished, Pedro suggests
they push the date of the merchandise delivery and Sara adds that if they agree
they can be sure to have a quality product. The guy says he’s disappointed in
the company, things used to be different with dead Severiano at the helm – if Juan
is still in charge, there is no deal. Juan asks Dante to take care of it, then
and Dante dutifully obliges, while Simon and especially Pedro are watching the
whole thing with great interest.
Bryan has prepared for dinner with the
in-laws, by wearing the same type of clothes he always wears. Brandon and Dulce
are back together. Augie is happy Brandon is decent, unlike his father, who
cheated on Adela with Rosa. Geez, Abuelo, talk about bad timing! Adela is
mortified, but Brandon and Bryan are impactados, start asking questions. Adela
tries to say that dad was a happy go lucky guy, a big flirt, but that was it. Augie
insists it was more than that, the boys needed to know that Rosa is no saint.
Mr. Henry declares the contract null and
void, what a shame you’re not the leader your father was, see you in court. The
guy and his team leave, so Juan asks Pedro to take care of the legal aspects
with Dante. Simon blames Sara for the whole thing, Mateo adds his two cents,
Juan goes ballistic and says that Sara is willing to pay with her own money if
this proves to be her mistake and so will he. Lucas asks what will happen if
this wasn’t Sara’s fault, so Juan says the guilty party will pay, whoever it
was. Sara says it wasn’t her mistake and Lucas believes her.
Dante says Sara can’t dispose of her money
before their one year term is fulfilled, what they can do for now is use their
emergency funds, and once Sara gets her inheritance, she can pay it back. This
makes Pedro take notice, he encourages Sara saying everything will be alright.
Sara is very upset Juan doesn’t trust her, he says this is business. She points
out she did all kind of documentation to back up her recommendations. Then she
leaves, closely followed by Pedro.
They go to her office and Pedro tells her
to let the lawyers handle things. Sara is more upset about Juan than the money
they are losing, Pedro adds fuel to the fire saying that Juan is all about the
work, he should have given her the place she deserves as his girlfriend, not
accuse her without any proof. Sara didn’t expect for Juan to behave like this,
what if she was wrong about him? This already happened to her in the past with
a man who didn’t love her. Pedro says Juan might not value her, but he definitely
does. He hugs her and once again he seems sincere, but this is Pedro, so he is
also always working an angle.

Pedro, of the black hat, black clothes and black hair can ooze sexuality when he wishes. We know this because he has the power to make one melt with his stare. But he is wasting his charms on Sara, who is clearly immune. Perhaps hearing lines such as “someone tampered with the fertilizers. Not Julieta, she’s a very good professional” have given her pause that his motives are somewhat suspect, that in fact it is Pedro himself who is full of fertilizer.
“Juan is at work, but remembering his bio-mother during one of her “drinking parties”. He cries” cut like a knife. It was shocking seeing his “mother”, who thus far seemed slovenly, dressed to the nines. Surely this scene did not take place at their filthy hut?
I had the first stirrings of a bit of pity tonight for Simon. Sal is a raving madman. He can’t even keep his own story straight – he is a liar and a dangerous one. I’m betting Paloma’s mother is very much alive.
It was sweet of Juan serving Modesto soup that Modesto undoubtedly made. The two men clearly care for each other. It’s too bad Modesto has to leave to support his raging, loser son.
“Julieta mentions how important the meeting is going to be and Juan says there is no need for Sara to be present”. What a man! Always so supportive of Sara.
Hmmm “Augie is happy Brandon is decent, unlike his father, who cheated on Adela with Rosa”. Really? I can’t see it but sure am willing to hear more.
I thought Prospi was stifling a laugh as Deb was giving him butterfly kisses. Bring on the makeover.
The dinner should be great fun! I’m still enjoying this so much.
Adriana, this was marvelous. You always clarify and explain with so much wit – thank you!
Diana
What was Jess expecting when she married Bryan?
Is Paloma actually going to marry Simón? I'm wondering if and when she's going to change her mind. Except if Simón killed Daddy del Monte and the police interrupt the wedding or something... Or they might actually get married. So many possibilities!
I like the siblings less and less.
Juan's behaviour just isn't very galán-ish and he's actually pretty annoying.
Pedro is the worst. He wants to take Tadeo away from Bea and wants to have a relationship with his brother's girlfriend (who is their step-sister. Just saying, we have forgotten about THAT!).
Mateo is an alcoholic who ALSO wanted to have a relationship with his brother's girlfriend (when he was in a relationship with Julieta) and probably will actually be a couple with Julieta at the end. I mean, your brother's ex, bro? Family dinners will definitely be awkward.
Simón should go to anger management. Honestly, I hope something happens and Paloma doesn't marry him...
Lucas is alright and actually kind of likeable, but he's very bland.
Sara... I guess the same as Lucas.
I hope we see Prospi's makeover soon!
Your recap of last night's episode was AWESOME & superb.
I see Prospero will be getting a makeover very soon.
Weirdo: All signs point to Simon or Crazy Pedro as the likely killer of Scumbag Seve.
Diana: I think you're right about Paloma's mother being alive. How far will Daddy Dearest go into keeping his daughter under control ?
Steve Boudreaux
There are way too many angry, violent and crazy men from Severianoon who seem to act with impunity in this novela.
You all can have smirking Pedro. Not my type and he is totally disgusting as most of the other men.
Jessica might be awakening to the reality of her hubby’s household.
For somebody who supposedly has no interest in Juli, Juan sure is quick to chit chat with her. I thought they were only supposed to talk about business. At least, he found out about Pedro being interested in Sara not that I can see him doing much about that or anything.
Guess Agustín couldn’t keep the truth in any longer about Rosa and Adela’s hubby. Whoopsie! That was funny. Then the tale of Irma done being a house wife and leaving town after her romp with Severiano.
Weirdo, Yes! Simón needs to deal with his anger big time or Paloma could end up like Bea. It sure looks like Simón walked away from his father calling for help in the crash. Murder? Manslaughter? He js messed up. We need a Prospi makeover ASAP.
Diana, I, too, enjoyed the scene with Modesto and Juan and agree that it is too bad he feels the need to go and support Cornelio. The “drinking party” scene sure raised more questions about Juan’s mother.
Can’t wait until tonight!
OT - This showed up in my FB news feed and is a delightful read:
For the first time, the Postal Service features mariachi musicians on stamps
(Copy and paste into your browser)
https://www.npr.org/2022/08/14/1116953193/usps-stamps-mariachi-music?utm_term=nprnews&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=npr&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR0YiOnFv0fwZJdC8qbr3Hlxck9g-OC87TupM9NDVvzaZIUgs9c-rp7GigE
Jarifa, I am very anxious to see Irma. I'm convinced she is going to show up. Malicious Sal is hiding something. Or a lot of things. I'm also thinking there is a reason we never see Juan and Pedro's "mother's" face. Another potential appearance.
doris, thank you for the article! I'm a bit shamefaced that I'd never heard of a vihuela. I really like the stamps, the violinist in particular.
Having computer issues so dropping it off today. Hoping it can be fixed in the next day or so.
I'm also looking foward to tonight!
Diana
I am amazed that Salvador is still in business. I would not want to eat or drink in an establishment where the owner airs his family's dirty linen in front of the patrons. That is about as declassee as it gets. Is his place the only saloon in town?
Paloma might be good for Simon, but I don't see him being good for her.
Further on the subject of dysfunctional families, if that family dinner ever happens Rosa will make one prize fool of herself. It will be interesting to see if her affair with Adele's husband (whose name I think is Lorenzo) comes to light.
So now we have three missing people who are "dead" to the ones they deserted: Juan and Pedro's egg donor, Adele's absent husband, and Salvador's absent wife. We know we will eventually see Juan and Pedro's hooker mother, but I hope the writers don't keep us waiting too much longer. We are almost at the 30% mark now. The other two are less critical to the story.
Deborah delights in the destruction of others or why else would she slither her way into Propspero's house and boink him under his own roof at the risk of Rosa finding out. We also now know that Dante is (or was) married. I repeat that he doesn't count Deborah as being in his future. I also don't think he bought her Business Partner BS.
So, now who will run the del Monte household? I expected that Modesto would get fed up and leave, but what will he do now? He was family to the boys for most of their lives. But what can he do for his own son? Considering what Cornelio is looking to do I have to think not much.
The business meeting was disastrous and likely to cause long-term damage to the company.
I was disappointed that Próspero was back with Deb. I thought he was smarter than that! And Rosa cheated on him! That’s a surprise. Wonder what she’s planning for the dinner tonight. Set only the regular amount of places! Is she going to make them eat with their hands on the floor!
Pedro is not interested in Sara He seems to tell people what they want to hear. I thought he had cooked up some secret deal with the American.
Hope Modesto comes back-but why would he!
Liz
Diana, I always feel bad for Simon when he gets one of his emotional scenes. Add to that the times he appears shirtless, it would be so easy for me to root for him. But then, every time something abd happens he finds a way to blame it on Sara. Like Every. Single. Time.
I don't know if it was Prospi or Julian Gill who was doing his best to stay in character when Deb was blowing him kisses. They are both playing parts they are not used to, they must enjoy it a lot.
Doris, thank you for the stamp info. Drop by any time. When don't have time to watch an episode, I find that the recap is more than enough to keep me up to speed.
Weirdo, ITA about the brothers not being all that. Especially Juan. When do we get to see HIM shirtless??
Jarifa, yeah, Jessica is in for a rude awakening. What did she think life with Bryan would be like? And she thinks that buying a mansion with a pool can happen so fast? With what money? She has no job and he works for a company that is in big problems right now.
Urban, great point about all these missing people who loom over everything that is going on. And they are all parents - this seems to be one of the themes of this novela: how parents' choices can cause irreparable damage in their kids. Deb and Prospi had their romantic rendezvous in a hotel in town, as far as I could tell - but I'm sure Den would like a romp in Rosa's chaste matrimonial bed.
Liz, love your quote, I think I only ever heard the first part before. I think Pedro plans to push the American to ask for him to be President and if the company will be hurt enough by the time this happens, Juan might be voted out.
Yes, it was definitely Julian holding back his laughter when Deb was kissing him. I think they are both having a great time with their respective roles.
"Deborah delights in the destruction of others" was exactly right Urban.
Liz, I don't think Pedro cares for or about Sara herself. He may like the idea of her but it's only to further what he wants. Of course any time he can "up" Juan is a good day for him.
Diana
I haven't watched this episode yet, but when I do later on , I will know exactly what is going on .
Oh la la ,silly , shallow, socialclimbing Rosa had an affair with Adela's husband !!! Wait! What ? Now, we know the real source of the animosity between these two mujers. Rosa wants her guests to shower before they come for dinner .How awful is she ! Yet she slept with the father of this family !Did she make sure he showered first ? Where does she plan to seat her unwanted guests ? ...out on the patio while her family dines inside in the dining room ?
If Juan and Pedro's awful mother shows up, it will put both those guys into a tailspin .
I think Pedro actually might be falling for Sara. She is the only person who seems to get through to him , and she has showed him compassion , and he has defended her.
It will be interesting to see if and when the three missing persons show up .
Diana
Modesto has quit, so now who will cook all the meals at Casa Del Monte? And clean up the kitchen afterward? We don't see many other servants at that house, IIRC.
Is Brayan's family bringing any dishes to Rosa's family dinner?
Jesse's face when Adela said something to her about Jesse washing(?) "la tripa" was a hoot. Jesse's face when Brayan put on his best socks with holes was a lightbulb moment for her. And ... what if Jesse gets pregnant?
Jesse did not think things through before she married Brayan. Nothing new there in the history of humans. "We will live on love." Um.... riiight.
Watching Sara make copies in the back ground was a lightbulb moment for me --- making copies without closing the lid. ;-)
After the way Juan has treated Sara over the crop failure, it is appalling to think she will be with him at El Fin.
Pedro only wants what his brother has. IMO if he actually got Sara, he wouldn't care as much any more. I rather think she is a means to an end for him.
Mister Henry's English pronunciation was awful, during his outburst at the meeting. The actor has to be a native Spanish speaker.
Rosa and Adela's husband.
Seve and Sal's wife.
Yep, Peyton Place to the tenth power.
"Jesse did not think things through before she married Brayan. Nothing new there in the history of humans. "We will live on love." Um.... riiight." Couldn't agree more, doris. There's a thin line between romance and stupidity. Not saying all romantic people are stupid, but being down-to-earth is an advantage. Love doesn't pay your bills.
We starts with a repeat of Severiano’s advice to Juan: don’t allow anyone to hide stuff from you… Maybe that’s why Juan goes in control freak mode every time one of his brothers dares to take a dump without asking him
God help me, he begs, while Severiano’s painting is looming (because apparently there is one copy of his portrait in every corner of the house).
So Rosa went slumming and cheated with Adela's husband? And, earlier, somebody said something about Rosa doing Salvador's wife wrong, which I assumed was Rosa's reckless gossiping or downright lies. Rosa has more in common with Deb than I thought.
Sal, what a hypocrite you are. You snicker with Prospi about his cheating with Deb, but your wife's cheating with Sev is so foul you won't give Simon a chance.
I do think Pedro has some true feelings for Sara, but besting Juan with her is a motivator too. His attempts at romancing her are too blatant. Diana, lol, ITA:
...have given her pause that his motives are somewhat suspect, that in fact it is Pedro himself who is full of fertilizer.
So Dante is married. We have three women who need to come to town: Paloma's mother (she's got to show up so we can see Sal's eyes jump out of his head), Juan and Pedro's bio-mother, and now Mrs. Dante.
Doris, thanks for the tip on the Mariachi stamps. I'm going to get some.
